[Misc] For science! St. Ives Apricot Scrub study

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Ok, so I know this sub HATES the St. Ives Apricot Scrub with the firey burning passion of 1,000 STDs, and for many people there’s a good reason. It’s been said it causes microtears in the skin but there’s been no study proving it. I know I am just one person, but I’m willing to donate my face to science (or at least half of it) to give proof whether or not it can harm skin. For one month, I plan to use the scrub on one side of my face (the only other product I will use is Vanicream Lite Lotion because winter). If you have any suggestions on whether I should use nothing but the scrub or the time I’ll be using it, let me know. There are zero studies to reference and I’m sick of it. I’ll be posting pictures and/or video here once a week. What do you guys think? For the record, I have never used the scrub before, so this will be new experience. Also not doing this for karma as I would be posting links in text posts.

Broken blood vessel on face, growing and too expensive to remove, advice? [Skin Concerns]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I visited my dermatologist a few weeks back and she informed me that this growing red mark on my face is a broken blood vessel. In order to remove it, I would need 3 separate treatments with a PLD laser, costing $450 per treatment and since it’s an elective procedure, insurance will not cover it.I, unfortunately, can not afford a $1,350 price tag for removing the blemish and it is growing increasingly bothersome to me. Would anyone have any advice, or know of an alternative treatment that may remove or diminish the appearance of the blemish?

[Misc] SR-SkinCare WARNING!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone :)I already posted this on Makeupalley and the kind ladies there suggested I should post here also, so here I am. :) About three weeks ago, I ordered 4 products from SR-SkinCare. It took quite a while for the package to arrive. I wrote to them inbetween if they can please check what's happening with my package but received no reply.A few days later the products finally arrived, but when opening the package and checking the ingredients I sadly realized they were very different from the ones on their website. So different that I wouldn't have ordered two the products if I knew the real ingredient lists.Since returning the products means too much fuss and additional costs I decided to keep them but wrote to them to let them know the ingredients are not correct and that I'm disappointed. Below is my letter:~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Hi,Today i've finally received the parcel and I have to say I'm quite disappointed. As it's probably is not a secret to you, the ingredients should be listed from the one that is contained in largest amount (usually water) to the one in the least amount. I've purchased Luminosa because on your website the ingredients are listed like in the pic attached (print screen) - which means Liquorice Root Extract on 3rd place of ingredients and Niacinamide on 4th. And now on the product received these two most important ingredients are in the last third of ingredient list. The same with Arjaline serum - the ingredients are not the same.I'm really disappointed about this and feel mislead and cheated. I wouldn't have purchased Luminosa moisturizer if I knew the actual ingredient list. I don't know what is your main goal - to sell products to customer once and never 'see' him again, or have a lifelong custmers? If you want a lifelong customers, you better play it fair, since I have no plans to order again. Really sad since the next time I wanted to order together with my friends (they don't have credit cards or PP).Kind regards,~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~And this is the answer I received.Dear TanjaIt's not a conspiracy to defraud customers. The official ingredients listing is correctly displayed on the product label and the ingredients are listed in order of weight as they should be. There is no obligation to display ingredients on the website product pages. Most retailers do not display such information. Many will simply mention a few of the 'special' ingredients to 'sell' the product. We provide the ingredients as a courtesy to our customers so they can check that they are, for example, not allergic to an ingredient. or to satisfy themselves that the product does not contain animal derived ingredients. As you looked so closely at both sets of ingredients did it not occur to you that the ingredients listed on the website were arranged in a particular order? The Luminosa listing is water soluble first, then thickening agents, followed by oil soluble ingredients etc. That information was taken from our formulation sheet and shows how the cream is made - the order in which ingredients are combined. To be perfectly honest Tanja I could care less that you are so offended that you will not order from us again. We are so successful that I think we can manage without such awkward customers who have nothing better to do than dream up conspiracy theories about UK companies defrauding poor innocent Slovenian customers.Ironically it is not us trying to defraud Slovenian customers - we get more attempted scams originating from Slovenia than just about any other EU country. So before you start making accusations I would suggest you look at why Slovenia seems to have so many scammers.RegardsBTW We have blocked and closed your account. Do not bother replying as I have also blocked your e-mail address~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I WAS APPALLED. So insulting on a personal level and insulting people of my country … my jaw dropped. Even without them blocking my account and email I surely wouldn't order there again. So I just wanted to warn you all about the incorrect ingredient lists on their website and the reply you can expect if you complain about it.I wish you all a lovely day :)

[Acne] Why is my skin clearer in the morning (when I wake up) then later during the day?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have mild acne (m, 25 Y/O). The same few pimples have been there for as long as I can remember. Not sure what type, but here is a pic from my cheek. For the past few weeks, I have been:Changing pillow cases every 2 daysWashing face w/ baby soap (I figure it'll be less harsh than regular soap) when I take a shower and before I go to bedSeparate towel for drying faceStopped touching face unless I washed my handsI don't do anything else. What else can I do or change? And why is my skin much more clear in the morning (what I mean by that is my pimples are flattened out and don't look as large. At night, they'll be popping out).My acne was worse before I did those things so they certainly helped. But these last few pimples aren't going away.

Not a very serious question, but I was just wondering if anybody else was in my boat lolI'm currently going to school for graphic design, so any products that have pretty packaging/bottles just make me so happy. Like anything by Glossier or The Ordinary I completely fawn over, it's so clean and minimal. On the other hand, I've been hesitating to get the CeraVe moisturizer everybody raves about because the tub is just..meh :( I keep holding off hoping a prettier package will come along with an even decent at best product, even though I know that will never happen.Anybody else care about packaging a little too much?

[Personal] For anyone who is feeling down about their skin

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Two years ago, I suffered the worst hormonal acne outbreak of my life. It was on my chin, my chest, even my back - deep cysts and angry red marks. I was too ashamed to be seen without makeup, and wore clothes that would cover as much of my skin as possible. My confidence was wrecked. I was single, and my skin issues made me stop dating. I caught myself thinking "how could anyone love me like this?"And then one day my little brother said something to me that stuck with me."You are more than just your skin. So what if you have skin problems? So what if it's pretty bad? It doesn't make you any less deserving of love or happiness. It doesn't change who you are, or make you any less smart, or kind, or strong. It's just your skin, and you are so much more than that. If someone looks at you and only sees your skin and judges you for it, they're not worthy of being in your life anyway".I realized he was right. I felt like I didn't deserve good things anymore, because I was flawed.I decided that I wasn't going to let my skin ruin my life anymore. I stopped hiding myself away the way I had been, and stopped promising myself that I would start living my life again once my skin cleared up. I started to love myself again, instead of focusing on the parts of myself that I hated. And you know what? One day, when my skin was at its absolute worst, I went on a date with a man who saw me for everything that I am - not just my skin. You deserve happiness. You deserve love. You are more than your skin troubles. Don't let your skin be the only thing you see of yourself. There is so much more to you than that.

[Routine Help] Been Skincare Addicted for a Month - Please help me finish off my routine!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello!Ever since I've been introduced to this subreddit, I've been absolutely addicted! I've learned a lot and I really appreciate everyone's help here. I have a combination, sometimes dehydrated face. It's pretty non-sensitive to topicals. Ever since my dermatologist prescribed me Aczone and Adapalene by acne has been pretty good, just some spots here and there on my forehead and rarely on my cheeks. (Adapalene is amazing by the way, it REALLY smooths out my skin.) My neck sometimes gets very small pimples that go away quickly, but that skin is pretty sensitive and gets irritated easily, so I can't use certain exfoliating products on it like adapalene, and probably Paula's Choice BHA and AHA which I plan to add to my routine soon. I think my face could really use some extra exfoliation, since my retinol, adapalene, doesn't seem to be strong enough. My face is very welcoming to new products. Currently, my face skin is so plump and my tone is SO even thanks to advice I've gotten here. It used to be pretty dehydrated, but I didn't know the difference between dehydrated vs dry so I've always been moisturizing wrong until now! I also have some mild acne on my chest and back, and KP on the back of my arms. Chest has a pretty uneven skin tone. Can you guys help me organize my routine and critique whatever problems you see? I've been following the unbolded routine, but I just bought a few products that I've bolded and those are the proposed spots in the routine. Some things I'm not sure about are how much time to wait in between certain products, and which order to apply them in. I also understand that there are a ton of steps here, so don't be scared to say I should eliminate any of them. I haven't noticed any issues with using so many though. I would also appreciate a good sunscreen recommendation - I VERY easily break out from most sunscreens so I need some help. Lastly, since I plan on incorporating sebamed clear face gel into my routine, do you think I should scrap the cerave PM? I like the ingredients in the sebamed better - that is also why I plan to add TO niacinamide to make up for the loss of niacinamide in the cerave.THANK YOU SO MUCH for all your help everyone!Current routine:Face:AM:* CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser (every other day with a wash cloth)* Dry face with towel, but not all the way dry* Thayers Rose Petal Toner (in spray bottle)* Aczone (dapsone) (pea size, spread on face and neck)* Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 8% AHA Gel Glycolic Acid* The Ordinary Caffeine Solution around eyes* Cosmedica Hyaluronic Acid Serum (just water, sodium hyaluronate, and benzylalcohol-DHA)* The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%* Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel* Benton Snail Bee High Content Essence* Wait until mostly dry* Sebamed Clear Face Care Gel* CeraVe PM* Timeless Squalane* Wait until mostly dry* Neutrogena Tinted Acne Treatment Concealer on red spotsPM:* CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser* Thayers Rose Petal Toner (in spray bottle)* Mighty Patch Hydrocolloid Acne Absorbing Spots on any swollen pimples (unusual)* Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Salicylic Acid* Adapalene 5%, pea size on face only, sometimes a small amount chest and on KP* Cosmedica Hyaluronic Acid Serum (just water, sodium hyaluronate, and benzylalcohol-DHA)* Benton Snail Bee High Content Essence* The Ordinary Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2%* Wait until mostly dry* Sebamed Clear Face Care Gel* CeraVe PM* Neutrogena Rapid Clear Benzoyl Peroxide spot treatment on flat spots* Aquaphor all over face1-2 times a week:* Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay face maskBody:AM:* (Should I maybe use one of the Paula's Choice exfoliants on my chest and back?)* CeraVe SC Cream on back of arms (KP) and feet* Alpha 12% Glycolic AHA Body Lotion* CeraVe in tub on torso, arms, legs, and neckPM:* CeraVe SC Cream on back of arms (KP) and feet* Alpha 12% Glycolic AHA Body Lotion* Sometimes adapalene on back of arms and chest* CeraVe in tub on torso, arms, legs, and neckThanks again!

[DIY] Accidentally cleared my skin with supplements for hormonal imbalances

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have had acne in one form or another since adolescence. I tried antibiotics, dietary changes, skincare routines, and accutane. A few years ago I was taking an herb called Chaste Berry (Vitex Castus) for an irregular menstrual cycle and after a few weeks realized it had almost completely cleared my face, with the exception of a few zits during my period.A few weeks ago I was reading about Calcium d-Glucarate and how it helped estrogen dominance and decided to try it. I stopped the Chaste Berry to see how the other supplement affected me.Well even better news: the Calcium d-Glucarate has completely cleared my skin. I am very happy and thought I would share my discovery with you.

[DIY] To the person yesterday who mentioned trying aloe vera straight from the plant - THANK YOU!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi SCA!In the comments of the aloe vera post yesterday, someone mentioned how useful the plant itself is. I have a bunch of them growing outside that I use to treat sunburn (or did, before discovering SCA and becoming much more responsible...) but had never thought of just using it for general skin concerns.I have combo skin which has been acting up like mad this last week, so in the spirit of curiosity I ripped off a 'leaf' (stem?) before bed and smeared its insides all over my face. Talk about metal, right? I put my usual moisturiser on over that, just in case. This morning, my skin is probably the smoothest it has ever been. I have to remind myself not to touch it. Also, I can barely see my pores at all, for once! It could be a coincidence, but I can't see any blackheads either. Absolutely chuffed about this.Time to hit up the gardening centre and maybe actually weed these things once in a while. Thanks to the person who mentioned them, and if anyone has any experience with sensitisation or other things to be aware of when using it regularly, I'd love to learn more.

[Acne] Aquaphor as a breakthrough product

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have mild persistent acne with the usual consequences, moderate breakouts but extensive PIH which really drag me down. I also have an isotretinoin prescription I have resisted using yet. My skin is oily and dry.But aquaphor is the best product I've ever used. It moisturises my skin in a way that no moisturiser is able to (I use non-oil ones and my skin remained dry and tight feeling) and it accelerates healing enormously. My skin atm is not dry after a long period of mistreatment, it's very smooth, and it's functioning fairly wellWhat are your experiences with vaseline or aquaphor products, or occlusives generally? I feel like going turbo with moisturising is the best thing I've ever done for my acne (this involved cutting all exfoliation too -- I worry about this but it seems to have transformed red pimples to tiny whiteheads with almost no inflammation involved).Routine:AM:Cetaphil gentle cleanserLa Roche Effaclar DUO [+] (EU version)Neutrogena Water Gel MoisturiserPM:La Roche Purifying Cleansing GelNeutrogena Water Gel MoisturiserA layer of Aquaphor all over my face

Sodium is a known cause of water retention. It has been proven to exacerbate dehydration, which in turn contributes to puffy or dark under eyes.Potassium is also guilty of this in larger quantities. And guess which foods are high in potassium? Turkey and sweet potatoes.Be mindful of your salt intake for a few days, and the problem will likely correct itself on its own.

[Research] olive oil causing damage to moisture barrier in AD

Beauty Tips For Body Care
(Potential; one study)According to an article on NEA's siteIn contrast, olive oil, with its relatively low LA/OA ratio, can significantly damage the skin barrier and induce erythema by disrupting the lipid structure of the stratum corneum and inhibiting homeostasis.LA - linoleic acidOA - oleic acidNineteen adult volunteers with and without a history of atopic dermatitis were recruited into two randomized forearm-controlled mechanistic studies. The first cohort applied six drops of olive oil to one forearm twice daily for 5 weeks. The second cohort applied six drops of olive oil to one forearm and six drops of sunflower seed oil to the other twice daily for 4 weeks. The effect of the treatments was evaluated by determining stratum corneum integrity and cohesion, intercorneocyte cohesion, moisturization, skin-surface pH, and erythema. Topical application of olive oil for 4 weeks caused a significant reduction in stratum corneum integrity and induced mild erythema in volunteers with and without a history of atopic dermatitis.Study /haven't read, no access; it's possible to request PDF on Research Gate). It's just one study, though, from what I can see.Can comeone with access to the study and knowledge comment? This is beyond me and I'm curious. Particularly curious about how this translates to cosmetic formulas that use olive oil and hydrogenated olive oil. Can the fact it's not a stand-alone ingredient in many products mitigate the potential negative effects?Sorry if this is inane.

[Misc] Holy Grail Products Thread - Week 12: Hand, Foot & Nail Care

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi there and welcome to the HG Hand, Foot & Nail Care Recommendations thread! This is the place to share your holy grail hand, foot and nail products - that hand serum that has made your hands look ten years younger; that nail oil that has made sure your talons can grow long enough to make a loud annoying tapping sound when that lazy barista is moving at a glacial pace; or that one cream that stops your feet from looking like scaly harpy claws (which can be useful at times but keep your SO from snuggling you in bed for fear of getting his legs gouged open). Here’s how it works:We have a template you can copy. Find the relevant product type in the top level comments; then reply to that comment with the template and fill it out. Include as much info as you can! Smell, product feel, packaging, effects on your skin, etc.Comment template:**Product name:** **Price (range):** **Country of purchase:** **Ingredient list:** **Special info:** **Experience & opinion:** Make sure there are two spaces at the end of each line!Comment template notes:'Ingredient list' is optional, but encouraged. Online sellers like Amazon and review sites like Beautypedia often list a product's ingredients.‘Special info’ covers anything that people might be specifically looking for. Like cruelty free / vegan / fatty alcohol free / fragrance free / pH value / etc. Don't forget to have fun!Of course, this thread isn’t just about listing a load of products - it’s also about sharing experiences! So feel free to chat about your product with others, or ask someone a question about the product they like, or share your experience with the product someone else has recced. [PSA] Black Friday/Cyber Monday Pricing Scams

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey all, just wanted you guys in the community to be aware of pricing scams on skincare products during Black Friday/Cyber Monday.I encountered this today: https://www.yesstyle.com/en/missha-time-revolution-the-first-treatment-essence-intensive-moist/info.html/pid.1053712807?cpid=1053712806##productAnchorListing the original price of the essence as being CA$ 104.94 and the '60% off discount price' as being CA$ 40.71. $104 seemed extraordinarily high and I googled the product to find that on almost every other website this product was listed as being anywhere from $55-$29.Please be aware when shopping on major discount seasons of price doctoring so you all don't get ripped off. If you've ordered products during this time it's not too late to cancel your orders if you find out you've been ripped off.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have been into skincare for the past seven years and it seems like no matter how “right” I do things, I will never have a noteworthy “after” pic. I love seeing the spotless after pics posted here and other places, but I’ve accepted I will never have one of my own, at least not without springing for the more expensive cosmetic dermatology options such as peels. I have done and tried it all: adequate water and balanced nutrition, vitamin c serums, tretinoin, niacinamide, daily sunscreen, etc.I’m not sad or depressed about it, but just wondering if anyone else ever feels the same way and how they cope.

[Personal] How can I stop losing money due to my roommate using all my products?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
My roommate keeps using all my skincare products that I leave in the bathroom, despite me telling her to stop. I can tell because I will sometimes stop using a product and I see it continue to disappear. She usually blames it on her accidentally "spilling" the products, when it's clear she uses them all the time, e.g. micellar water, very expensive dry shampoo, baby powder. However, when I move the products to my room, my whole skincare routine falls apart. So far, I've refilled my on-the-counter micellar water with just water, so that I'm not losing money when she uses it. (Also, her face won't be as clean when she uses it). Does anyone have any other non-harmful tips on replacing products or any other suggestions?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot. In the past few months I’ve gotten into somewhat of a routine-started washing my face and using moisturizer and I think my skin looks great overall but then I’ll get a breakout and feel like a failure or that it’s not actually working. What is reasonable to aim for? Does clear mean: no breakouts, occasional breakouts, manageable breakouts, or improvement?

[Routine Help] Where do I begin?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello skincare! I've finally had enough and decided to come to you for some direction. My issue: At 30 years old I have no idea how to manage my skin or what I'm doing. I want to reduce the oil on my skin and clear up my acne.I have extremely oily skin that's blemish prone and even oilier hair, thanks to genetics from my Dad. Within a few hours of showering my skin is soaked, worse on my forehead and my nose. If I wipe it off with a napkin it looks like a greasy burger was sitting on it. It's nasty. It's disgusting, and I hate it just as much as my Dad does. The skin on my legs is completely different with a more normal mixed with dry skin. I've discovered break outs on my legs come from the hair breaking through the skin after shaving. It becomes unbearably itchy and I'll wake up during the night scratching my legs bloody and raw. My solution was to just not shave close and leave a little hair behind. Shaving every day caused break outs. I started using T.N. Dickinson's Witch Hazel wipes on my legs after shaving and that reduced the itching a little. The acne has responded well to both birth control and antibiotics. The best results came from a round of Minocycline which reduced the amount of oil on my skin and completely cleared the acne. Once I was done however, the acne returned. The birth control (forgotten the name) tamed it to a degree but I wasn't on it long enough to see if it resolved the issue completely. Due to lack of insurance, and one doctor who insisted I needed a gyno exam (extremely painful) before she'll even prescribe more birth control pills I have accepted that I'm sort of doomed. My daily routine goes like this: A shower as soon as I wake up otherwise I have this kind of gunky, dry oily feeling on my skin the rest of the day. My hair feels heavy and gross on my skin. I wash my hair with Pantene Pro-V 2 in 1 repair and protect. I do not use soap. Before bed I will splash my face with cold water. If it's been a particularly humid day I may splash my face earlier in the day and again at night. No soap?! Yeah, no soap and no, as far as I'm aware, no weird smell. I've tried bar soaps before (such as Dove white and something else I can't remember) but they always left me in various states of gross, be it chalky skin, heavy feeling, or oilier than before with worse breakouts. I had somewhat good results with Southern Natural Goat Milk Soap (unscented) that curbed my acne to some degree but after a while it came back stronger than before. I stopped using it when I noticed my lips started to take on a purple tint.I live in Alabama, ew humidity. I am pasty white with dark circles under my eyes, if I get the slightest bit warm I will turn a lovely shade of fire engine red all over my face. It really makes my acne and acne scars pop.. People stare. I feel ugly.Is there anything to scrub away dead skin build up? I typically just rub it away with my fingers when I notice patches. Is this something that is suppose to happen naturally if I use soap and a washcloth? What should I look for in a soap? Does it have to be bar soap and not bodywash? I always heard bodywash makes oily skin oilier. How can I reduce the amount of oil I'm accumulating on my skin? I'd like to avoid using masks or peels, that seems like scary territory that I am not ready for. What do I do about the dark circles under my eyes? Can I do anything about my legs? What can I do about my acne scars to help them fade and heal? What do I even do about the acne in the first place?I could really use some help planning a routine to deal with all this and laying the ground work for a routine. I'm so lost.Any sort of product that is light on the skin with an earthy smell is welcomed.Thank you in advance.

[Routine Help] Going from expensive skincare to drug store

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello! I’m moving out on my own and the purse strings have been tightened. My skin used to be combo/oily but recently I find my skin has become dry. (especially around my nose where I have all my blackheads which I have been desperately trying to get rid of) I also have acne usually when Aunt Flo comes around. I’ve always bought skincare from Sephora because I usually get all advice from YouTube. Right now I’m using Philosphy Clear Days Ahead cleanser, Clinique Dramatically Different moisturizer, Origins Ginsing eye cream and Sunday Riley Luna oil. I know there is some amazing products at the drug store but I have no idea where to start! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated :)

[Review] Sunscreen: comparing CeraVe, Biore and La Roche Posay

First let's have some photos: https://imgur.com/a/4JffZThe sunscreens I am comparing in this post are:CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion AM SPF 30 - $16.99 for 3oz (shipping included)Active Ingredients: Homosalate, Meradimate, Octinoxate, Octocrylene, Zinc Oxide Inactive Ingredients: Water, Niacinamide, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Dimethicone, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Ceramide 3, Ceramide 6-II, Ceramide 1, Hyaluronic Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Methylparaben, Disodium EDTA, Propylparaben, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Phytosphingosine, Cholesterol, Carbomer, Xanthan Gum Biore UV AQUA Rich Watery Gel SPF50+/PA++++ - $10.87 for 3oz (shipping included)Water, Alcohol, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Lauryl Methacrylate/Sodium Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Titanium Dioxide, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Dimethicone, Ethylhexyl Triazone, Xylitol, Dextrin Palmitate, Hydrated Silica, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Glyceryl Stearate, Vinyl Dimethicone/Methicone Silsesquioxane Crosspolymer, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Cetyl Alcohol, C4-14 Perfluoroalkylethoxy Dimethicone, Aluminum Hydroxide, Potassium Hydroxide, Stearyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Agar, Polyvinyl Alcohol, Isoceteth-20, Sodium Methyl Stearoyl Taurate, Aminomethyl Propanol, Sodium Stearoxy PG-Hydroxyethylcellulose Sulfonate, Glutamic Acid, Ceratonia Siliqua (Carob) Gum, Maltose, Butylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Royal Jelly Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Disodium EDTA, BHT, Fragrance. La Roche-Posay Uvidea XL Aqua Fresh Gel SPF50/PA++++(PPD21) - $30.90 for 1oz (shipping included)AQUA / WATER, ALCOHOL DENAT, DIISOPROPYL SEBACATE, ISOPROPYL LAUROYL SARCOSINATE, ETHYLHEXYL TRIAZONE, BIS-ETHYLHEXYLOXYPHENOL METHOXYPHENYL TRIAZINE, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, DIETHYLAMINO HYDROXYBENZOYL HEXYL BENZOATE, TITANIUM DIOXIDE, GLYCERIN, METHYL METHACRYLATE CROSSPOLYMER, DROMETRIZOLE TRISILOXANE Fragance:CeraVe and LRP have no fragrance while Biore does.Alcohol:CeraVe does not contain alcohol while LRP and Biore do. Biore has a strong alcoholic scent (and stings my eyes) while the alcohol content in LRP is not noticeable.ColorCeraVe and LRP have a light yellow tint while Biore has more of a cream color.Consistency:Biore has a gel-like texture. LRP feels like a cream moisturiser that is similar to La Mer soft cream. CeraVe is a paste.Spreadability:Biore and LRP are easily spreadable. CeraVe is difficult to spread, forms lumps and cannot be spread evenly.Finish:CeraVe sits on the skin and remains a pile of cream-colored gunk no matter how long I leave it on. It pills upon application of any makeup above it.Biore settles into the skin within 3-5 minutes. White cast is present but barely noticeable. It is non-drying and finishes slightly dewy afterwards. Foundation friendly, can replace base. When I don't put on make-up I find it necessary to apply loose powder over it so that it looks matte.LRP takes 5-8 minutes to settle into the skin. A barely noticeable white cast is present and it has a nice even texture. It is non-drying and finishes slightly more dewy than Biore. Foundation-friendly and can replace base.Removal:All three sunscreens can be removed by Cetaphil cleanser, but CeraVe requires more rubbing than the other two sunscreens. You should be able to wash off all three with a regular body wash.Final thoughts:I don't know why I still haven't thrown away the CeraVe AM. I should have done so earlier. Both LRP and Biore are nice sunscreens. Although there are many Japanese sunscreens that have comparable or better performance, Biore should be one of the best choice within this price range.LRP is known to have a wide range of sunscreens with different consistencies and added functions. They are also well known for making high PPD sunscreens (good UVA protection). Uvidea Aqua Fresh Gel is indeed a very good sunscreen. Being a Japanese-based line under La Roche Posay, it is very well balanced between good UVA protection typical of an European sunscreen and user-friendly consistency of a Japanese sunscreen, but I am expecting more from it with its high price.

[acne] Can you guys help me with my acne? I’m not sure where to start.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey everyone. So I’m new here (22 year old male) and trying to find my way around skin care. I’ve struggled with acne in and off the last couple years but this year has been especially bad. I know I need a better skin care routine but have no idea where to start. I spent some time going through this subreddit to try and figure it out on my own but think I just confused myself more.As you can see I have tons of pimples on my forehead and sides of my face. My skin gets really oily throughout the day, even within just a few hours of washing it. I assumed that meant I have oily skin but after reading some posts on here I’m wondering if maybe it’s dehydrated skin? The rest of the skin on my body tends to get dry. I’m on some pretty harsh antibiotics due to some health issues and I think they can cause skin dryness. Right now I don’t have much of a routine, other than washing my face with Cerave foaming facial cleansers in the morning and at night. And I use Clearasil daily clear acne cream- 10% benzoyl peroxide. My acne had gotten significantly worse just in the last couple weeks and I’m not sure where to start to try and help it. I can’t think of any recent changes other than the cold weather.Any help would be much appreciated!https://imgur.com/a/XdYR9

[PSA] Sunday Riley is releasing a new eye cream called “Auto Correct”, available everywhere 12/12/17. What does SCA think?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Instagram post.Key ingredients include caffeine, lutein, and horse chestnut, though percentages and ratios are unknown at this time. Claims to be a “brightening and depuffing eye contour cream” that “instantly delivers a lifted and depuffed look while reducing the appearance of dark circles and fine lines”The Ordinary has their Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG, which may be somewhat comparable.I know that caffeine can produce temporary tightening/depuffing benefits, but what other benefits can be expected from lutein and horse chestnut?

[Hair Removal] Sharing my experience: Laser vs. Brazilian Wax with extremely sensitive skin

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Given that it's winter in the U.S. (and prime time for laser hair removal) I wanted to share my experience. I have dark hair and fair skin that is extremely sensitive. In summer of 2016 I got my first brazilian wax from a reputable salon. I had a horrible rash and ingrown hairs afterwards despite exfoliation, lotion, etc. - and in 3 weeks I was hairy again. Not very cost effective at $75/session.In fall 2016, I started a series of laser hair removal treatments in lieu of shaving or waxing. I did 5 sessions over a 12 month period (the recommended interval, skipping the summer due to tanning/sun exposure per the aesthetician's guidance). Most of the 'bikini' area had a significant reduction right away, and took months to grow back in (most hair is gone permanently). And the remaining hair is finer.Pain-wise, they used a numbing cream, and the most sensitive areas were less painful than waxing. That said, the hardest hair to remove is 'down there', and though it is finer, I still shave. Due to hormones, it is unlikely to ever go away permanently (I was told that from the get-go). Recovery-wise, my skin is red and angry for 3-4 days, tops, then it's totally fine.I anticipate that I will need maintenance treatments about twice per year to retard hair regrowth, but to me, it's worth the extra money (still less than waxing overall) for better results and significantly less side effects.

[Humour] Turns out, whales love exfoliating, too!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/bowhead-whales-exfoliate-cumberland-sound-nunavut-1.4416539"We would see whales rolling around… on occasion we would hear really loud vocalizations that sounded almost like a moan," said Sarah Fortune, a PhD student and the study's lead author."We were really perplexed," said Fortune, who initially set out to observe whale feeding patterns. ... But when they saw large pieces of skin peeling away from the whales' bodies, it clicked. The whales were rubbing off dead skin on boulders in the shallow water. They were exfoliating and Cumberland Sound was, in a way, a giant salt-water spa.Later, in 2016, they researchers went back. Aerial drone videos confirmed their hypothesis — that the whales were, in fact, engaging in some rock-rubbing action."They used these rocks almost like a pumice stone," said Fortune.

[personal] product rave for acne: aloe vera gel + rosehip seed oil!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Ever since coming off hormonal birth control ~4 years ago, my skin has suffered from regular cystic acne flare ups across my jawline/neck. Be it related to hormones, stress, dairy, sugar/carbs, insect bites (eww) or yeast — just about anything was giving me multiple hard nodules of pussy, red, PIH aftermath acne that lasted WEEKS and would often flare right back up in the same spots.I tried so many things: betonite clay masks or various acid peels (AHA/BHA) helped a bit, but my skin was often dry and irritated from the vinegar or active acids. Various moisturizing products helped but often broke me out worse (snail cream, y u betray me?!) and I was basically at a stand still. But on a whim, one day I tried moisturizing more... slugging it up, super thick... with the Trader Joe’s aloe vera gel mixed with 4-5 drops of rose hip seed oil.Oh my god guys.Oh. My. God.Cystic acne? Almost entirely gone and flare ups are way less common/severe. Red marks and scarring? Rapidly fading. Closed comedones? Barely seeing them now.Oh yeah, and my eyebrows and eyelashes are growing.PRAISE BE TO THE SKINCARE GODS FOR I HAVE FOUND MY HOLY GRAIL!So to anyone who bothered reading this: if you have super sensitive, “f*** your plans have some cystic acne instead” and reactive skin like me.... maybe you just need an ultra bland, healing moisturizer!Yay!

In two days this mist has calmed ALL of my redness and inflammation. I'm truly amazed and have never had a product work so well so fast. The first spray is a bit shocking (strong scent and may tingle a little) but after that it's been very refreshing. I use it between my toner and BHA- all before moisturizing. If it's a makeup-free day then you can spray throughout! Even on my sensitive skin it has done very well. 10/10 would recommend. Got mine at Sephora for $18 USD.

Well I have been going heavy on the moisturizers and I’ve been using all different kinds. The only problem is, all of them seem to break me out. I don’t use them all at once but I have kind of introduce one after another breaks me out and then the cycle continues. My question is, should I keep using moisturizers that break me out in order to save my barrier? I feel like at this point they all break me out so who cares? I’m talking red pimples with whiteheads. I noticed my face looks 10 times worse after shower. Looks more puffy, dull, I can see acne scars a lot more(they reflect in light clearly). I look pale and like I got 10 years older.I wash my face with a salicylic acid face wash and it does the job because I haven’t noticed any acne for about 3 weeks since I started doing it regularly. I use moisturiser.Honestly I’m gonna stop washing my face before going out with friends now because of this. [Routine Help] I sleep in nasal strips to look sexy and to breathe at night. How the hell do I handle this in my skincare routine?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Because I have angry nostrils (that's a medical term), I now get to slap on a nasal strip before sleeping every night as a way to entice my lover with an even more attractive nighttime routine beyond coating myself in an occlusive to more closely resemble a slug. While I'm still working out some details of my PM routine, I usually use a BHA exfoliant, a vitamin C serum, and a thick night cream on my face. Turns out that my nose is also a part of my face, but now I get to wear a big strip of adhesive over said nose (and extending a bit onto my cheeks and the cheek/nose crevice that probably has a technical name). This is new, so my big concerns so far are:Is this gonna fuck up my nose skin? If so, how can I minimize the damage? Unless it's really damaging, I'm not going to stop, because I like breathing at night (and in general). How should I approach my nose care? I want to treat that skin as well as I treat the rest of my face skin, but I can't slather anything on there or the strips won't stick and I'll snore/die a little when it inevitably slides off in my sleep. Also, the idea of covering up skin that's been exposed to a chemical exfoliant sounds a bit scary.Suggestions for how to further amp up the attractiveness factor of nasal strips are also appreciated. I'm thinking of putting some glow in the dark paint on one to freak my boyfriend out.

[personal] Diet and healthy choices shocked me

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Today marks a week without drinking, without eating out, and working out everyday. Normally I break out badly, when I’m nervous or anxious about something. I started a new job this week, and have been very nervous and expected a bad breakout. To my shock, my skin has completely cleared. The only two products I need anymore are Ceraphil’s men’s daily face moisturizer and CeraVe’s pm facial moisturizer.I really think it comes down to drinking. Since I’ve stayed sober my face has never been happier. I’m so much more confident without acne, and generally feel better. I laughed when people said my diet was causing me problems, but now I’m a true believer.Try cutting out alcohol for an entire week, see what happens. Start tomorrow of course, it’s a holiday!

If you're new to SkincareAddiction: welcome! This thread is the best place to ask questions about skincare products, your routine, and your skin. Our community is knowledgeable, and we want to help you have the best skin of your life!Moderator note: We're currently doing a test with daily help threads instead of weekly for a month or two. We're hoping daily threads will make it easier to navigate the comments without reducing the amount of questions that are answered. At the end of the testing period, we will ask what your experiences were with this new posting schedule!Do you have a question?First take a look at our FAQ and Wiki! It doesn't have everything, but there might be a chance we have some guides already compiled that will help you find a solution to your problem!Help answerers give you the best advice, by letting them know as much as you can about your skin and skincare. With your request for help please include:The issue(s) you need help with.Skin type. It's OK to be subjective, how do you feel your skin is? Oily, dry? If you need help clarifying, check out this guide on skin typesCurrent routine with the full names of your products (try to separate it in to Morning, Evening, and Occasionally used)How long you have been using your current routine, or product in questionAnything new you’ve introduced or started doing that might change the condition of your skinYour location so we can recommend products/services available to youThanks for taking the time to include your information!Would you like to give advice?Firstly, thank you so much for helping out our community, without your knowledge and time ScA would not be the same! Some things we'd ask for you to keep in mind: please don't just downvote someone's opinion or response because you disagree. If you can, please take the time to tell them why you think their advice may be incorrect or harmful. It's better for people to understand why something is a poor choice, instead of just being told that it is one.Previous ThreadsThis thread is posted every day at 12:00am ET.
