[Personal] Why I no longer care about my imperfections
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi, I'm Michaela. My second language is english, so sorry for mistakes. I'm curently 19 years old and I have acne. I have acne for over 10 years. Yes, it started when I was 9 years old. First 9 years of my acne it was horrible. Like, really, really horible. Cystic acne, angry, irritated cysts, dry patches, big, infected wounds – you name it, I had it. Scars, hyperpigmentation, huge pores. Now you may think – there will be happy end, yeah? No, it won't. I developed anxiety about my skin. Deppression. I didn't go makeup-free even in front of my mom. On school trips I din't even took it off. I cried all the time, covering my skin with more and more makeup – and was bullied because of it not being enough to cover it all. Bullied for 4 years of elementary school. Bullied by my sister, my mother, my friends. Everybody was like „wash your face“ or „disgusting, don't eat so much fat“ - so I didn't eat, and I washed my face. Up to 7 times a day. Then I got into skincare – and I listened to my dermatologist and my mum. My derm told me to use Benzoyl Peroxide 10% every day in thick layer and no moisturiser – my skin is oily, so it doesn't need one, you know? And she told me even worse things, put me on a strict diet and so on. My mother bought me everything commercials said will help. And I used it all. And because it was so much stuff I used one cream for about two days and then switched to another, waiting for miracle to happen. Then my derm said – you'll go on Accutane, highest dosage. And then it clicked – my kidneys and liver are ill, I can't, so why is she prescribing me this? It will destroy my internal organs. I could die. And, she said - „well, don't be so hysterical, it has no side effects“. Yes, no side effects. And then I didn't want to listen to her anymore. Simmilar thing happened with my mom, when she suggested birth control – I can't take these pills, mom. She ignored that. So I stopped listening to her advices too. And now I'm here. Student of economy, wanna-be molecular biologist, model student. And, I have acne. I have scars. I have hyperpigmentation. And guess what – nobody fucking cares. If someone cares, they are not the people I want to be with. If someone cares, I tell them to shut the fuck up and keep their insecurities to them. Because that's it. This simple. I put on moisturiser, I take care of my skin, but I know that at the end of the day, skin doesn't matter. Hair doesn't matter. Clothing doesn't matter. What actually helped me was making some change – trying to help the world, trying to go for the things I want and nothing else. Realising what is your own worth, that everything depends on your attitude. Yes, I have anxiety sometimes, but when I do, I just stand straight and show everybody that imperfections don't bother me – because they are okay. Wrinkles are okay, hyperpigmentation is okay, acne is okay, dry skin is okay.Nobody is perfect, but that's the way things are meant to be.So be kind to yourself and don't be sad because of your skin, because what's inside you is much more important than you think :) (insert a surgeon joke here)

[Skin concern] I'm 20 and have these stubborn, long, dark and thick lines at the corners of my lips for 5 years now. I don't remember when it started but they are very noticeable now. They're neither itchy nor dry. My skin type is mixed: oily nose, dry cheeks. Help!

Since so many people use TO products, and many are now looking for alternatives to replace things they have been using, I thought I'd throw together a post for product recommendations in one place.I'll post a comment below for each of the products (or categories) that are in TO lineup, please feel free to reply with any suggestions you have for similar products you think might make suitable substitutions for people who want them.By replying to the comment headed with the individual product, we can keep it more organized for people who are searching for one specific thing.Thank you to anyone who contributes and can help out those wondering how to re-build their routines!

Hello lovelies,What do you think about having an app tracker for skincare products? I was thinking of designing a skincare application for myself and wanted to gauge if there is interest within the community. Imagine it's like a My Fitness Pal app but for skin only. Here are a few features:Tracking skincare routines (AM, PM) / (ideally list out ingredients) --> including notetakingHealth (Sleep, stress levels, eating, exercising, water, caffeine, birth control, vitamins etc.)Progress tracker (before and after)Habits tracker (this is for people suffering compulsive picking. I might put this into Health section)Resources (kinda mix and match)Let me know what your thoughts are!

[Meta] [misc] Redundancy
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I love this sub and it's been super helpful to me and a lot of people. However, I feel like lately (the past couple of months) the posts on here have gotten quite redundant. The humour section is pretty the same three to four memes getting reposted all the time, with memes from over six months ago still reappearing(also, the starter packs). I love shelfies as much as the next person, but I feel like that's become 90% of the sub and there's mostly no further information on how this person uses these products. I noticed a lot of routine and product help posts often go unnoticed because of this and, this has been mentioned quite the few times so I won't go into it, the amount of posts/pictures of enormous TO hauls people post asking advice on how to incorporate them into their routines has gotten ridiculous.I know I'll get backlash for this because the sub loves most of these things, but I hope there's a way to make the sub more transparent. I feel we could use some new jokes and more actual helpful information and advice back on the top section of the page.

[PSA] Rodan + Fields Should Be Avoided
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Today we are going to talk about Rodan + Fields skincare, that have taken over facebook feeds. For those who don't know about Rodan + Fields, they are a multi-level marketing company and are the makers of the well-known Proactiv (which is drying to the skin and causes more damage in the long-run). I'm here to tell you three reasons why you should avoid using R + F products. They are very overpriced. For the hundreds of dollars spent on R + F, you could buy much better products that don't have all the added chemicals. They use MLM strategies. They force salespeople to post manipulated Before and After Pictures, a tactic used in MLM companies to make people believe that the product works better than anything they've ever seen before. Before pictures feature darker lighting with no make-up applied. After pictures feature brighter lighting, which hides flaws on the face. And they have makeup, foundation applied. Which is why the after picture makes R+F look like a skin miracle. See pictures here that are found shared on Facebook and created by the R + F sellers aka "consultants". That's just the surface of the problems within R+F. To sell R+F, you have to buy a $600 kit and also buy about $100 of their own product a month. They lie about how much money a new sales member/"consultant" can actually make. 90% of their consultants make only $250 to $2,300 a year. About 6% make around $7,000 a year. And only the top 0.04% are making over $500,000. Income Sheet Here. They use questionable chemicals that are fillers and fragrances. Also just basic chemicals that are no better than the skin products you use in your own routine. Here are the ingredients that are in R+F products. As you can see, it's nothing special. And it's definitely not formulated with genuine concern for its customers. There's even a pending lawsuit due to Lash Boost as seen here.If Rodan and Fields really cared about it's customers - they would stop selling by using manipulated multi-level marketing tactics, lower the price of their products to make them affordable for all, and re-formulate all products focusing on quality rather than quantity (making them fragrance-free, preservative-free, and hypoallergenic).

[Research] What oil is best for skin? Is olive oil damaging to the skin barrier?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Which oil is the best for your skin? Years ago I recommended grapeseed oil because of its high linoleic acid content, and I think I inadvertently may have contributed to the misconception that free fatty acids are the same as triglycerides (Which are the main content of oils). So, to make things even more confusing, the fatty acid composition of oils do contribute to the way that they feel on the skin and the effect that they have on the skin. As well, as the triglycerides are hydrolyzed by enzymes and bacteria they contribute free fatty acids to the skin. BUT, it's still disingenuous to make claims from an oil when the research was conducted on the free fatty acid. Everyone's rate of triglyceride hydrolysis will be different, the fatty acid composition of oils will vary from batch to batch, and no oil is made up completely of just one type of fatty acid. The common knowledge is to choose an oil high in linoleic acid and avoid ones high in oleic acid. Despite its popularity in skincare, olive oil is an oil which is high in oleic acid. Depending on the batch, between 55% to 83% of the fatty acids bound to the triglycerides in olive oil are oleic. There is research that has shown in many cases the application of olive oil can actually lead to an increase in trans-epidermal water loss, which is an analogue for the moisture barrier function of the skin. However, most of this research was performed on people with atopic dermatitis or newborns. It's important to make a logical leap and assume that the same will occur with healthy, normal skin. Additionally in many studies, they compared the effect of olive oil to sunflower seed oil, an oil where the triglycerides are mostly made up of linoleic acid. They usually find that trans-epidermal water loss drops with the use of sunflower oil.Very often these studies are small, in one study that did show a negative effect of olive oil and a positive effect for sunflower oil - there were only 7 participants in each group. Larger studies, like one with 115 newborns found no significant difference in the effect of olive and sunflower oil, they were both moisturizing and reduced trans-epidermal water loss. One study I found on newborns even found a worsening of skin condition with the use of sunflower oil.So there's a lot of problems with this body of research, a study group that doesn't necessarily reflect a "normal" population (newborns and people with atopic dermatitis), and often very small and underpowered sample sizes. It's hard for me to make a recommendation for a "best" oil, as there are almost just as many studies to show a negative effect from olive oil as there are to show that it has a beneficial effect. All the researchers emphasize that further research is needed, and unfortunately, I think the answer is yet to be decided. Also keep in mind that oils are largely made of triglycerides, but there are other components too! Olive oil, for example, contains squalene and phenolic compounds with anti-oxidant effects like oleuropein. So if you are using a skin oil, you may benefit from switching to an oil with higher linoleic acid content (especially if you're a newborn or a person with atopic dermatitis) - but I don't think there's enough evidence to sanctimoniously berate someone who uses olive oil on their skin. Also, if someone markets their oil as being "similar to human sebum", run! Even with jojoba oil, while the wax esters are similar - it's not the entire composition and the claims fall apart under any real scrutiny.Impact of topical oils on the skin barrier: possible implications for neonatal health in developing countries DOI: http://doi.org/10.1111/j.1651-2227.2002.tb03275.xOlive oil, sunflower oil or no oil for baby dry skin or massage: A pilot, assessor-blinded, randomized controlled trial DOI: http://doi.org/10.2340/00015555-2279The permeability barrier in essential fatty acid deficiency: Evidence for a direct role for linoleic acid in barrier function DOI: http://doi.org/10.1111/1523-1747.ep12541775Evolution of lipid composition in skin treated with blackcurrant seed oil DOI: http://doi.org/10.1111/j.1467-2494.1988.tb00014.xInfluence of sunflower seed oil on the skin barrier function of preterm infants: A randomized controlled trial DOI: http://doi.org/10.1159/000363380

[misc] TO Squalane + Vaseline have been saving my insane Sahara tret lips
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Ever since using tretinoin, my lips have gone from normal to peeling and prone to bleeding. Even drinking water would sting like all hell. Using vaseline over them helped ease it a little but two nights ago I tried adding two drops of squalane and then sealing it with vaseline, I have had moisturized happy lips since then, even better than before I started tret! I highly recommend the oil + vaseline combo on dry lips! Because I sure am not going to spend a lot on an expensive lip sleeping mask.

[misc] I know we're all sick of hearing about Brandan Truaxe but...
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I can't resist commenting on his latest insta from two days ago. I found it so annoying how he got defensive about how he has a bit of acne on his forehead. He was so quick to say "I don't get pimples... Don't let it cloud your judgment on the amazingness of my product. I don't ever need to use it." Ok but no one asked/cares? Is he really so vain that he thinks a couple of spots is going to deter people away from the brand? That's not even on the list of things we're judging you for buddy... Maybe that's how he thinks, but I don't judge people negatively for their skin, and I hope no one on here does either. Also I don't get what he's trying to accomplish when he says he doesn't need to use Deciem products. Not all of them are for treating problem skin. Maybe he's trying to say that he has such perfect skin that he doesn't even need skincare but in any case, not a good look.Don't want to make another armchair diagnosis but it seems like we're looking at a classic case of Major Douchebag Disorder. /s

[Research] Dr Dray says it's been demonstrated that salicylic acid penetrates the skin within seconds in face washes and is effective for acne and causes less irritation
Beauty Tips For Body Care
This sub turned me on to Dr Dray and something interesting she says in multiple videos is that it's been demonstrated that salicylic acid penetrates the skin within seconds in face washes and is very effective for acne. She adds that it causes less irritation than leave ons as well which can in turn further reduce oil production and acne. That's why she uses an SA face wash rather than a standalone. I notice Gothamista, also recommended here, does the same. This is counter to the prevailing response that the combination is useless whenever a SA+cleanser thread comes up in this sub. Is there any actual research behind this opinion that SA washes are useless/don't absorb or is it just something that sounds right and gets repeated? Is this a myth that should be overturned? If an active can be absorbed with less irritation it seems like we are scaring people off from a very viable or optimal solution, especially ones who get turned off by leave on SA irritation/reactions.Is anyone able to access the research paper(s) Dr Dray is referencing? Or is there any research specifically on SA that indicates the opposite? I tried searching pubmed for words like "salicylic" "wash" "effectiveness" "absorption" etc but can't find anything but I don't know if these are the correct terms that would be used in dermatology journals.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I know there is some information about types of acne in the info on the sidebar, but I wanted to share this link because I found it a short, simple, and easy way to understand the different types.types of acneThe pictures are maybe gross, but useful.Preview of what you can find at the link:Non-inflammatory acne (the least severe of all):blackheads (salicylic acid)whiteheads (salicylic acid, retinoids, Differin)Inflammatory acne (from least severe to most):papules (benzoyl-peroxide)pustules (benzoyl-peroxide)nodules (isotretinoin, prescription medication, a doctor/derm visit)cysts (isotretinoin, prescription medication, a doctor/derm visit)Non-acne causes of bumps and swelling:folliculitiskeratosis pilarismiliarosaceasebaceous filamentssebaceous hyperplasiaAs always, YMMV, and there are definitely nuances to acne, its causes, and what works best to get rid of it. But hopefully this basic info helps someone figure out what they have going on and gives them a place to start in treating it.

[Acne] How I cleared my moderate hormonal acne with just topicals if anyone cares.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Alright, so to be fair currently I have a couple dots of hyperpigmentation but I figured I’d make this post when my skin wasn’t perfect so that I couldn’t jinx it.Anyways, I would post pictures but I have no befores and I’m insecure asf anyways.Context: 16 year old male. Mostly cysts and whiteheads, can’t remember the last time I got a blackhead. At the worst of it I remember I couldn’t leave the house as my WHOLE face was a bloody mess. Went out once and was stared down A LOT. People can be rude. I get acne around my jawline, chin, sides of mouth and occasionally forehead.Current routine, weirdly precise:AM:Go downstairs and get BP from the fridge. Apply all over my face, have drink of water.Get in shower and wash the BP off. You can leave it on anywhere between 1 to 10 minutes, but try keep it shorterWash face with Simple Kind To Skin Moisturising Wash.Apply Zineyrt Lotion: Idk if this does anything to this day but it was given to me by my doctor and it’s basically topical antibiotics. Make sure your face is completely dry otherwise it doesn’t spread.Moisturise with Simple Clear Skin Oil Balancing Moisturiser if it’s quite dry.Apply Alpha H Vitamin C with Grapeseed Oil serum for scarring.Wait 30 minutesApply TO: Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%Apply TO: Hyaluronic 2% + B5Apply same moisturiser mixed with Simple Hydrating Water Booster stuffApply Aloe Vera from fridgeApply Simple SPF 30 sunscreen. If you’ve gotten to this stage and you’re wondering how my skin doesn’t freak out to all of this don’t worry, it’s mostly all just moisture. This is the result of a couple years worth of trial and error. If these are rookie numbers to you, I’m guessing you’ve done this a lot longer than me :) also regarding the Benzoyl Peroxide; it’s called Benzoyl Peroxide Contact Therapy. If you think I’ve lost the plot look it up on google it’s actually incredible, you get no irritation.PM:Depending on how my skins doing, the BP again, and I just wash it off with my cleanser.Zineyrt Lotion (still not sure if I need it lol)MoisturiserOh shit! What an introduction: DIFFERIN. This was the game changer for me. 0.1%. If you’ve never tried it in the evening daily for 2 months, give it a go. I was really irritated and my skin burned but I pushed through and now it’s insanely smooth and all my comedones are gone. I think it’s OTC now!Niacinamide againHyaluronic againThat moisturiser mixed with that weird hydrated boost thing againAloe VeraJust got it yesterday: naturally radiant renewing night cream. I think my skin likes it and for £2 it is really good.Supplements: - Omega 3 - Zinc - Green tea (u can drink it but I’m lazy) - Magnesium (not for acne just helps my joints lol) - Will probably add Vitamin D as I feel like a vampire.I don’t have cows milk anymore but tbh I once downed a glass to experiment and nothing happened so I think I’m just doing it for the mental reassurance.Idk if anyone actually cares about this but I know how it feels to be absolutely defeated by acne. You aren’t alone and I really hope this helps someone out there. My skin is now just, well, smooth. Even tone. Hyperpigmentation lasts about 4 days if I get a spot but idk if that’s a genetic blessing or it’s the products.I want to share this especially as it is quite cheap. If we remove the Vitamin C and Aloe Vera which is completely optional for scarring, it adds up to about £20.I also use a Manuka honey mask (if anyone actually wants to know I’ll find this link just tell me) and I’ve used an Acid Peel twice Once was fine but damn the second time gave me a cyst and I’m too scared to use it again. If anyone actually remembers I’m the one who said I was going to harm myself because of acne. I was successfully diagnosed for OCD and I stopped my drug habit. Fluoxetine has saved my life enabling me to enhance my skincare without letting it control me. I just want to thank you all for helping me when I was in need. Even the ones who downvoted me, as they took the time to read it.Love you all.EDIT: Almost forgot! I got really bad cystic acne on my shoulders. I somehow cleared it up with just Epiduo, Australian Body Care wash with tea tree in and Nivea Body Lotion.EDIT EDIT: Went downstairs after this, glanced at the mirror. Little whitehead. Obviously forgot to knock on wood 😭EDIT EDIT EDIT: After a light discharge (I popped that bitch) and a little spot treatment it’s pretty much gone. Madness.

[MISC] Shout out to Glossier customer service!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I recently ordered Cloud Paint in Beam and Dusk, but quickly figured out that I hated the way that Dusk looked on my face. I emailed the CS account asking if it would be possible to exchange Dusk out for Puff. They replied by the next morning saying that I could keep Dusk and give it to a friend to try and that they would be sending out Puff for me at no charge!I don't think that Glossier is too strong in the skincare department (although I love my milky jelly cleanser), but their makeup is pretty great for a subtle look and I've had nothing but great experiences ordering from them. 10/10 would drop $$$ again

Discussion/speculation of a persons' mental health is beyond distasteful and I'm genuinely shocked that a skincare subreddit with so many knowledgable, science-minded, fact-fanatic people can so easily throw out comments like "he's clearly suffering from mental health issues". You can't click on a single thread regarding deciem without seeing these comments being cosigned and upvoted. Does nobody else see this as a glaring issue?

[Review] Some reviews of affordable, easily accessible moisturisers and occlusives for those with over-treated, dehydrated, irritated skin.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Heavy-duty moisturisers for problem facial skin. No fragrances, alchohol, parfum, or any other sensitising ingredients. These products will help to repair skin damaged by over-exfoliation and over-treatment. Also helpful for de-hydrated and inflamed acne. To get best results, use in a routine that starts with layers of humecants (thin, hydrating layers found in Asian Beauty products), and finishes with oils (rosehip, sea-buckthorn, squalane). Avoid foaming cleansers, and try OCM/gentle cleansers.LA ROCHE-POSAY LIPIKAR BAUME AP+: (HG). Fantastic moisturiser with shea butter and 4% niaciniamide. Hugely moisturising, thick, soothing, cosmetically elegant. Mixes with everything (oil, sillicons, hydrators), never pills. 400ml of product in big pump bottle. Love using this. Re-purchased at least 5 times so far.EUCERIN 5% NIGHT CREAM: Make sure you get the night cream. Much thicker than the day one. Powerful moisturiser, with 5% urea, ceramides and other clinically effective ingredients. Thick and again mixes with everything. If you want to get a urea product into your routine, this is the one. Only 50ml of product so have to be slightly more sparing, but reasonably good value for money. Re-purchased 4 or 5 times.LA ROCHE-POSAY CICAPLAUST BAUME B5: Very different to the previous two products, and should be used as a mixer with them, rather than a stand alone moisturiser. It is incredibly soothing and anti-irritating. With B5 and zinc, it is anti-bacterial, calming, thick. This plays a different role in routine, repairing, reducing redness. Slightly occlusive and leaves a slight whitecast, so for evening use only. Find this product to be quite unique, especially at the price point and a great addition to any routine. Re-purchased 3 times.BEPANTHENOL: Yep, nappy rash cream. Heavy, thick occlusive. Great consistency, feels very luxorious and mixes nicely with vaseline and aquaphor, making them easility spreadable. Also mixed well with creams, for a sleeping back. Ingredients listend below. None of the 'alcohol' ingredients are sensetizing, they are all fatty alchohols, like those used by cerave, that are moisturising. Ingredients: Aqua, Lanolin, Paraffinium Liquidum, Petrolatum, Panthenol (Dexpanthenol), Prunus Dulcis, Cera Alba, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Ozokerite, Glyceryl Oleate, Lanolin Alcohol.Notable mentions to Cerave Cream, Aquaphor, Vaseline, pure lanolin.I'm have lots of experience dealing with very problematic skin and associated skin conditions, so please hit me up with any questions and I hope I can impart with some of my knowledge/suggestions!

[PSA][ACNE] You can't scrub away acne
Beauty Tips For Body Care
This is something that took me way too long time to realize. You can't scrub away acne. I used to use super harsh exfoliants in the hope that, if only I could remove the blemished top layer of skin, my acne would go away. In fact, I was only making my problem worse.Would you rub St. Ive's Apricot Scrub on an infected cut on your arm? Of course not! You would treat the infection, reduce the inflammation and calm the skin so that the wound had time to heal properly.Acne is the same away. It is a wound on the face. An aggressive approach only makes things worse. You don't fix irritated skin by irritating it even more with abrasive physical exfoliants. No. You calm the skin and use active ingredients that will prevent future outbreaks.tl;dr My skin cleared up once I started viewing pimples as wounds that needed gentle healing, not blemishes that could be exfoliated away.

Today I was told by a random guy at school that I need to drink more water to “fix” my forehead acne. Me, myself, the person living in my own body, living my own life, said that it was hormonal and stress induced. He then told me I was wrong and needed to drink more water and sleep more!! I had NEVER tried that!! The more you know!!! So that’s my advice for all of you, just drink water you thirsty pores! :))))

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi, I’m still kinda new and I love this subreddit. I’m currently going through beauty school, and we’re doing skincare right now in our theory class (I’ve been having a blast all week). Anyways, I have a giant textbook and pages and pages of notes that are all about skin, and wanted to know if you guys were interested in me posting a giant thing with all of it in there. I’d try to make it as organized and easy to understand as I could (if I can get it, anyone can), but I don’t want to go through all that work if no ones interested. Let me know!

[Miscellaneous] What long gone skincare trends have you lived through, and how were they supposed to work?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I started getting acne between 2005-2007, and skincare advice seemed to fit pretty firmly into two categories: a) Dry everything to death with the highest salicylic acid concentration possible or b) mash food and household products together. I also remember Proactive getting super popular because it seemed clinical and exclusive. I’ve only delved deeply into skincare this past year, and always take special ingredients with a grain of salt (ie. açaí, blue tansy, rose everything, etc.) and I’m curious to know what trends I’ve missed. What ingredients/formulas/practices have flooded the market before, and what trends from this year do you think will follow suit?

[misc] Current employee at soap store that everyone is mad at wants your advice!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey Skincareaddiction! (I promise this isnt some weird commercial) (Throwaway because I am a paranoid freak) (sorry if this is incoherrent) I've been binge-reading this sub for the last month and love reading about your experiences and struggels with acne and skin problems, as I too struggle with insane skin problems. (I have NCGS and am just starting to get my skin to calm down for the first time in 8 years). I am a sales assistant at a Lush that sees a lot of foot traffic each day, in a large non-english speaking city. I know you all have a thing against the brand, which I can to some extent understand. I have seen the ocassional co-worker tell a customer something totally crazy, but I always make a point to step in and correct them. My store is a little different from the places you guys describe, because my manager is an angel, we have proper monthly training, and most of our employees have higher education or background in skin/hair care, Biology and Chemistry, and Enviornemtal Sciences. I notice even how our store differes to the others in my city.Any way the point is, I want to help every single person that comes into my store in search of advice, because I too know the struggles. I constantly give samples because I dont want anyone to buy anything that their skin doesnt agree with, like I read here contantly, and I want everyone to have to opportunity to come back and say "hey this fucked up my pores i need somthing else".I would love to hear your guys thoughts on what I should know and keep in mind while trying to help find good solutions for the customers who come into my store. I want to be able to give them the best advice and help I possibly can, and not just sell them something because they like how it smells. I definitely have a good knowledge base already on all the natural ingredients in the products, but I'm trying to deepen my understanding of chemicals and their positive and negetive effects. I also hope to be able to tell more about the skin barrier, because nooobody knows a thing about that here.Any tips, trusted websites (its so hard to find reliable sources, take the coconut oil trend for example), tables, lists, scales-you name it-will be greatly appreciated and thouroughly studied in my lunch breaks.Tl;dr: Im a skin care freak and I want to turn other people into skin care freaks too with the power of knowledge.

[Personal] do you take off your makeup immediately after you've been out and go straight into skincare routine ?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So often, I'll apply spf, makeup etc, go out for a couple of hours in AM, I'm never out till PM. So there's kind of an interim period between AM and PM skincare routine, I like taking off my makeup when I come home after being out a few hours . But I don't shower till PM and don't want to have to have to wash my face again so I usually remove with makeup wipes and leave skin bare till PM where I do my whole evening skincare routine. I'm rarely out AM to PM just wondering what do you guys usually do during this interim period?

[B&A] Two months of this subreddit. This is what you all have done for my skin.

https://imgur.com/a/IqjWvProgress pics from the first day I decided, "hey I'm going to actually try a skincare routine recommended from this page", to two months later (this morning). These pictures were taken on the same shitty camera phone, in the same bathroom, with the same lighting. My skin type: Combination skin with hormonal acne. Acne scarring and PIH issues as well (was an Accutane user about 8 years ago)Other medications: starting this month, Spironolactone 100 mg. I am also on Beyaz BC.Morning Routine:Wash with CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser for Normal/Oily SkinTone with Thayers Witch Hazel (Lemon)Exfoliate with Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid (AMAZING by the way) (Depending on sensitivity of skin... getting way better at understanding my skin cues)Moisturize with Trader Joe's Enrich Lotion with SPF 15Sunscreen with Beauty Counter's Protect Stick Sunscreen (SPF 30)Night Routine:Remove makeup with Neutrogena's Makeup Wipes (but, haven't used makeup in over a week! Yay!)Wash face with CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser for Normal/Oily SkinTone with Thayers Witch Hazel (Lemon)Exfoliate with Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid (a), OR (b) apply Measureable Difference's Hyaluronic Acid(a) If BHA liquid, then I wait to dry, then apply Measureable Difference Hyaluronic Acid; (b) If Hyaluronic Acid first, then apply LilyAna Natural's Retinol Cream 2.5%(a) Finish with CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion PM; (b) Finish with Radha's 100% Organic Rose Hip OilSuggestions/feedback on my routine would be greatly appreciated! There is SO much information on this subreddit, and I am already seeing such great results, but I want to treat my skin in the best way possible, so if you see any gaps in my routine, ordering issues, etc., I'd be so grateful for feedback.Thank you all for doing what you do. [Personal] Bad Date
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I am a longtime lurker but decided to make an account to share this. I was on a date with this guy (who has perfect skin) when he gets close to me, points at my face, and asks "I hope you don't get offended, but have you ever been to a dermatologist? I got a cream from them and whenever I get a pimple I just put it on it and it makes it immediately go away"I've been going to the dermatologist since I was eleven years old, actually. I actually managed to get my acne to mostly clear up, but I "experimented" with new products to get rid of closed comedones a few months ago and it made face horribly break out. Yes, I went to the derm once the break out started and am scheduled to go back in three weeks. I am also on 3 different oral medications for it ( Spiro, birth control, and doxy) and two different topical creams. But thanks for the advice!EDIT: Maybe I should have tagged this under "cringe" LOL

My Cheapskate skincare tips, please share more! [Miscellaneous]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I am a broke student on a budget, so I have to find ways to cut the cost of my skincare. I'd love to hear your cheapskate secrets! Here's a few of mine:pumps and dispensers are your friends! I never throw away a bottle with a pump/spray/dispensers type lid. I love to repurpose them (after being thoroughly cleaned) for dispensing exactly the amount of product I need.a fairly obvious one: cut open all of your bottles, tubes ect to salvage any remaining product. I usually then use a mini spatula (mines a kids glue spatula thing) to scrape the remaining product into another pot.I was gifted a fairly expensive facial exfoliating brush thing (the kind that whizzes round. I have no idea what they're called). It broke. I have since found that a dry, clean, cotton sock is just as good at buffing away dead skin. I use a black one and you can SEE the amount of skin that comes off. I recommend this a lot on this sub- I am the crazy sock lady.I wanted to buy some microfiber cloths for drying my face. A facial microfibre cloth was £3... A pack of 5 for cleaning your car was a pound in the poundstore. Same goes for a muslin cloth, a pack of five meant for babies was a pound. Get creative with your shopping!recently I ran out of nip+fab pads. I couldn't afford another pack. I bought a 6 pack sample pot on Amazon for a pound, cut them all in half, made them last a fortnight.-this individual face mask sachets always have way too mush product. I just half, roll up the top, and secure with a bobby pin.as you may have noticed, I halve a lot of things. Hydrocolloid patches are no exception.im always gifted a ton of body butter every Christmas that I barely use. I've started using it as shaving cream for my legs. So silky! And that horribly drying soap you always get is repurposed as room freshener.

[PSA] Beware of fake COSRX Acne Master Patches sold on Amazon + Ebay
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I recently bought Cosrx acne patches from Amazon + Ebay and received fakes. I'm pretty upset that someone out there is printing and manufacturing these counterfeit patches. They do not work at all. They are just like a thin sticker that falls off your face. Here are pictures of the fake patches: Imgur Album Of Fake PatchesThe differences between the real patch and fake patch is that the fakes - do not come with the instruction paper inside - have a holographic plastic sheen on the part that has the patches on it - and the patches lack the slight yellow tone of the authentic patches, and are white instead. What a shame!
