[Acne] Another sulfur rave!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Based on this sub, I went ahead and bought the De La Cruz Sulfur Ointment on Amazon (for around six bucks) about two weeks ago. I’ve been using it once a night on my chin for ten minutes (I also use it on the upper back, where I suspect I have pityrosporum folliculitis which has already vastly improved with over the counter clotrimazole cream). After ten minutes I rinse it off. Done. So easy. The results have been nothing short of stunning. For the first time in years, my skin has been completely clear. Not one pimple. I have not noticed any annoying side effects like dryness or peeling. As someone who has used Retin-A, salicylic acid, niacinamide and AHAs, and still breaks out, this is huge for me!

[Product Question] What are the best Drunk Elephant Dupes?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
First time poster here,I've been on a very long skin care journey, trying various products and routines to no success UNTIL I purchased the Drunk Elephant Littles bundle. A little steep for me personally, but I read rave reviews and need to try it.Turns out DE was the best thing I could do for my skin. I use the full "The Littles" Routine as follows:AM:Gel cleanserMix DE B-Hydra and C-FirmaDE Protini CreamPM:Cerave SA Salicylic Acid CeanserMix Marula Oil wiith T.L.C FramboosDE Protini CreamThis routine has made my skin visibly better in a week. I want to purchase full sizes, but the whole routine isn't cost effective for my budget IMO.Can anyone recommend any dupes for the above products/anything that is similar and may even work better? Any help is appreciated, my skin thanks you!

[Misc] Difference between Weak Skin Barrier and Sensitive Skin?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
(for those stuck behind paywall)All of Those Products Are Making Your Skin Worsehttps://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/30/style/all-of-those-products-are-making-your-skin-worse.htmlWhen customers message Nicolas Travis, the founder of the skin-care brand Allies of Skin, with questions about their sensitive skin, he asks them what other products they’re using. Ninety-nine percent of the time, he said, it’s something with drying alcohol or harsh essential oils.“I have to tell them, ‘You’ve just spent years of using really badly formulated products, which is like years and years of eating junk food,’” said Mr. Travis, whose company is based in Singapore and is in stores in 15 countries, including the United States. “I say, ‘Your skin isn’t sensitive, your skin barrier is just really weak.’”Ask aestheticians and dermatologists what problem they’re seeing these days, and as often as not the answer is a broken-down skin barrier. Little wonder, then, that the new beauty buzzwords are “barrier repair” (and its cousin “barrier protection”).A broken barrier — symptoms include inflammation and patchy, flaky skin — can eventually lead to other problems since it means the skin’s defenses are compromised. Besides sensitive skin, barrier dysfunction is also partly responsible for rosacea, eczema, psoriasis and acne, all of which are on the rise, according to epidemiological studies. What’s to blame for the mass barrier malfunction? Too many creams, serums and other hope in a jar.“It’s largely a product of our own obsession with squeaky clean and using product upon product upon product,” said Whitney Bowe, a dermatologist in New York. Combine product overload with environmental assaults, and you have a recipe for skin barrier disaster. Here’s how to avoid that — or to repair the damage. What the Acid Mantle Is, and Why You Absolutely Must Protect ItThe acid mantle is the protective film of natural oils, amino acids and sweat that covers your skin. Damage it with too much scrubbing or neutralize it with alkaline washes and you’re on your way to barrier problems: inflammation, allergies, breakouts.Talk of the acid mantle (apologies!) means a lot of talk about pH, which, to the surprise of many a chemistry teacher, is the sort of thing beauty addicts love to discuss online these days. So, while alkaline water may be all the rage for health, you definitely don’t want to use it on your (acidic) face.Cleansing your skin with anything alkaline interferes with the skin’s ability to repair itself and makes it less elastic, Dr. Bowe said. A high pH also encourages the growth of a bacteria called propionibacterium acnes that, as you may guess from the name, plays a major role in many forms of acne. That face wash that is super-foamy and lathery? There’s a fairly good chance it’s alkaline because the ingredients that give it those qualities are high pH.“The problem is, people want lather to feel clean,” said Emily Parr, a founder of HoliFrog, a line of cleansers that is set to debut in September. “So we had to counter ours with a ton of rich oils to reinforce the barrier.” (The brand’s namesake frog is a nod to its focus on barrier protection; frogs’ skin is so permeable that they can’t survive in toxic environments.)Christian Surber, a professor of dermatopharmacology at the universities of Basel and Zurich and an author of studies on the acid mantle, suggests avoiding products with a pH of more than 7. This doesn’t mean the lower the pH the better; skin pH is about 5.5 and ability to tolerate more acid depends on both your skin and how well the product is formulated.Skin grows more alkaline as we age — activating enzymes that chew away, Pac-Man-like, at collagen — and acidic products can restore pH, protecting against droopy skin and the development of wrinkles. This focus on acidity as the key to healthy skin is the theory behind such start-ups as Atolla, in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, which tests for factors including pH and sends monthly customized serums. It’s also why companies like Mr. Travis’s and Ms. Parr’s list pH on the packaging (something Dr. Surber, who is not connected with either, thinks all brands should do).The phrase “pH balanced” is about as useful as the term “clean” or “natural” — which is to say, it means nothing. If you want a specific number, the company has to supply it. Not even a cosmetic chemist (or armchair cosmetic chemist) can guesstimate this based on ingredients, Dr. Surber said. The bad news: When researchers tested 31 moisturizers widely available in the United States, they ranged in pH from 3.73 to a havoc-wreaking 8.19. A 2018 German study found only a little over a third of commonly available moisturizers had a pH “appropriate for barrier protective basic therapy.” (Companies constantly tweak formulations, so it’s impossible to have a complete updated list of villains.)Dos and Don’ts of Restoring Your Skin BarrierThe first step in skin barrier protection is stepping away from the kajillion products.“The 10-step Korean regimen is an ordeal for the skin,” Dr. Surber said.ADVERTISEMENTChemical exfoliants like glycolic, lactic and salicylic acid are usually more gentle than physical exfoliants (particles in scrubs, microdermabrasion) but should be used no more than once a week for dry or sensitive skin and three times a week for oily skin. Consider a recent meme that made its way around beauty insiders: “Look, I can totally fix your acid mantle, if you could just lay off the 30 percent glycolic for 10 minutes.”(The meme’s creator — the guy doing the death stare in the photo accompanying the text — is Jordan Samuel Pacitti, the founder of Jordan Samuel Skin, who said in an interview that it came from his company’s philosophy of “keeping the barrier and acid mantle in check.”)Initially there was a lot of excitement among doctors about ceramides, which glue the barrier back together and help prevent the skin from drying out and wrinkling. But the skin is simply too complex for any single ingredient to do the job, said S. Tyler Hollmig, an assistant professor of dermatologic surgery at Stanford University. He still recommends ceramides, but they’re not a cure-all.Products with ingredients like glycerin, petrolatum and hyaluronic acid can also help repair the skin barrier and replenish lost moisture. These don’t need to be fancy. Shari Marchbein, a dermatologist in New York, advises that, as basic as it sounds, moisturizer should be applied within 60 seconds of cleansing to trap in the hydration.“If you frost a dry cake, the cake is still dry,” Dr. Marchbein said. “If you frost a moist cake, it stays moist.”

[Misc] I’ve been a “cleanser and moisturizer only” person for years, but recovering from dermatillomania inspired me to take on a multi-step routine. I couldn’t be happier with the results, and thought I’d share what I use to help out any other beginners like me!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Obligatory “on mobile sorry about formatting”I admit sometimes I’ll miss a day, maybe I wake up late or just want to take off my makeup and go to sleep, but most days I love my skincare time as a form of meditation, and it’s been so cool to see my skin heal and get better and I’ve become so much more confident!By the way, the steps in my routine are inspired by an article called “Correct Order of Skincare Products” from Dermstore Blog, which is written by dermatologists and has a helpful diagram of steps if you’re a beginner! That list doesn’t suggest any specific products though, so I did my own research on what would work best for me and my skin for the list below.Morning routine:[if needed] Cerave Hydrating Cleanser Bar on Clarisonic Mia 2 (active ingredients: Ceramides 1,3,6-II, Hyaluronic acid)Beauty360 (CVS) Refreshing Toner (generic L’Oreal Hydrafresh Toner) (active ingredients: BHAs, Vitamin B)Nature’s Truth Vitamin C SerumCetaphil hydrating eye gel cream (active ingredients: hyaluronic acid)CVS AM Moisturizing Facial Lotion SPF 30 (generic Cerave AM moisturizer) (active ingredients: ceramides, niacinimide, hyaluronic acid)Night routine:Ponds cold cream or neutrogena makeup remover wipeCerave hydrating cleanser bar on ClarisonicBeauty360 refreshing tonerCetaphil hydrating eye gel creamNeutrogena age intensives anti wrinkle retinol face serum (active ingredients: retinol (vitamin a), vitamin e)Cerave Renewing Gel Oil (active ingredients: ceramides, sunflower oil)CVS PM Facial Moisturizer (generic Cerave) (active ingredients: ceramides, niacinimide, hyaluronic acid)Once per week:Korean exfoliating mitt on body (if you’ve never tried this DO IT they’re $1.50 from DAISO and the dead skin comes off in ROLLS it’s so satisfying) followed by Bio OilThe Ordinary AHA/BHA Peeling Solution on faceLet me know if you find this helpful at all!!

[Misc] Why is ‘The Ordinary’ so popular on this sub?

Having been a silent observer on this sub for few months now, I happen to notice ‘The Ordinary’ products in most routines and shelfies. Moreover, there is a legend like admiration for the products among many comments.I was curious to understand what makes the brand so popular ? Could be anything according to personal opinions, but was broadly curious about the trend.

[Misc] Is it possible to be zero-waste/minimum waste whilst still enjoying all your favourite skincare products?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi guys, this is my first post ever so I hope it's done right hahaSo basically, recently I've been trying to go as zero-waste as possible - reducing plastic when food shopping, etc. And in doing so, I've realised that my makeup and skincare routines include lots of plastic and I would like to minimise this waste. However, this is proving to be somewhat difficult as most products that work for me usually come in plastic containers, and so do most products that I want to try. So I was wondering if anyone else is trying to minimise waste in their beauty routine, and if so, how do you go about it? Do you search for brands that focus on minimal waste, or only buy products that come unpackaged/in glass containers, etc?Thank you!

[Routine Help] Is my AHA BHA too strong?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
This is my current routineCleanser (Neutrogena Oil free grapefruit wash just at night)BHA + AHA (The Ordinary 30% AHA + 2% BHA, Once a week)Toner (Mario Badescu Alpha Grapefruit cleansing solution)Toner (Simple, hydrating toner)Moisturizer + Occuslive (Cetaphil for day or Olay total effects night cream at night mixed in with a few drops of The Ordinary argan oil)SunscreenInitially I had no problems with the AHA/BHA peeling solution but the last two or three applications have left various parts of my face bumpy, itchy and red plus a bit of dry flakey skin. After a week and a half however it's completely gone and my skin looks and feels beautiful.Does it sound like the AHA/BHA is too strong for me? If so, can anyone recommend a less concentrated one? (I am only starting out using acids.) I first turned to leave on salicylic acid treatments to fight some subclinical acne. And I am also looking for plumper, brighter skin so the AHA is a great added benefit.

[Misc] I didn’t like how uneven my Mario Badescu Facial Spray seemed to spray, so I switched the top of with an old Mac Fix+ spray bottle top. Now the mist is much finer, and it feels like my face is finally getting even coverage!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I recently got the Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Cucumber, and Green Tea and I really didn’t like it. I felt like I was just dousing certain parts of my face and it wasn’t going on evenly. It also seemed like too much liquid was coming out with each spray, and I had to waste a lot.I realized that the Fix+ bottle and the MB spray were the same size, so I just switched the tops and now the mist is awesome! It comes out much finer and hits all areas of my face. Feels much more luxurious this way too!Just wanted to share in case anyone else was similarly annoyed.Pics: https://imgur.com/a/wSE5cwd/

[PSA] Walgreens Derm On Call
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Backstory:I have always had very simple, non-sensitive skin with the casual breakout or two here and there but sometime earlier this year I first had a bad reaction to the PTR water drench moisturizer, followed by non stop cystic acne along my jaw. I am lucky in the sense that most of it happens right along the cusp of where my jawbone is so it’s not really visible, but it’s there and it hurts.I went through a phase of trying all kinds of things because I was in panic mode and then realized I was way overdoing it. Neutrogena BP 10% and Kate Somerville Eradikate helped the inflammation a lot, but it still wasn’t getting rid of the spots. After that I moved onto curology with azelaic acid, clindamycin, and niacinamide which while I do think is working I felt that I needed something more than topical treatment.I have health insurance but the hassle of going to the doctor and getting a referral to then wait to see the dermatologist was really unappealing to me. So when I saw someone post on here last week about Derm On Call through Walgreens, I thought I’d give it a shot. The process was really simple. I signed up and chose my doctor(I googled them all and chose one with awesome reviews), pharmacy I’d want to pick up any prescriptions at, then filled out some basic information, my skin concerns, what else I had tried, and attached some photos. I paid the $59 consultation fee and the next morning I had a treatment plan! I’ve never seen a doctor without using my insurance before so I was shocked at the cost of the medicine but I quickly found some coupons that brought the prices down by 50-80% bringing the total down to $70 for 2 prescriptions.Just wanted to post this here as an option for people on the fence or as an cheaper alternative!

[Acne] Does anybody constantly keep getting pimples on their lip line?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I constantly keep getting these and it's driving me nuts. NO it is not herpes before anybody says it lol I have already confirmed with my doctor.I use a lip scrub from Mac once a week and change my sheets once a week. I get pimples on my face here and there but I don't understand why I keep getting them in the most disgusting area (the lip line). If they are anywhere else, I don't care at all. How can I stop these?

[Personal] A guy saw me without makeup.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
He invited me over to play video games. I had a really bad reaction to squalane oil, and had broken out in cysts and clogged pores all over my face. I was embarrassed, scared, nervous. But I didn't want my skin to stop me from having fun, so I went to go see him. I figured that if he thought I was cool then he wouldn't think my skin was a big deal. So we hung out and... he didn't look or treat me any differently. We had a lot of fun. We stayed up late and he told me he liked me... I asked him "why?" haha. I guess maybe beauty really is only skin deep.

[Product Question] Wedding guest sunscreen options
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello! Looking for product suggestions -I'm getting married in September and would like to have some sunscreen at the wedding for anyone that needs it. Should I go with a spray over a liquid formula? I'm thinking of having one or two bulk bottles for people to use. Also hoping to find something that doesn't smell super sunscreen-y.I'm also wanting to give all my bridesmaids a travelsize sunscreen too. I'm imagining theirs being something a little more... cosmetically elegant so they can use it on their faces if they want, too.I'm in Colorado (near Denver). The wedding will be both indoors and outdoors. Willing to purchase online or locally here. Thank you!

[PSA] New Cetaphil Mud Mask
Beauty Tips For Body Care
https://imgur.com/a/wPs7noZHey everyone saw these at Target yesterday and picked one up. Haven't tried it yet but the ingredients look really promising especially due to the fact I have dry skin but enjoy the occasional mask. This one isn't supposed to fully dry down and has some nice oils in it and no fragrance!

It’s probably the fancy hand sanitizer you use before applying products.Feel kinda like a dummy. I thought it would help reduce the amount of bacteria I introduce for my open containers. [Misc] How Do You Care Your Armpits
Beauty Tips For Body Care
After reading a few comments on Reddit, I decided to use BHA (salicylic acid 2% TO) on my armpits because i perspire a lot when I sleep. I perspire so much that whenever I wake up my armpits would smell so funky and bad. My S.O. would always tell me to go take a shower in the morning, because it is so strong.I epilate my pit hairs but never understand why it can always smell so bad. I live in a tropical climate and I don't use deodorant at all cause i am lazy af and most of my tops are white, which will stain.I see immediate results from the first time using it. No more funky smell, in fact it doesnt smell at all.Question: How often should I be using it? Daily? So far i been using it 3 nights in a row. What are the other weird products you guys used to care for your armpit?

[Routine help] Removing sunscreen caveman routine?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So my routine has always been pretty gentle and non stripping but i noticed even with cerave hydrating cleanser my face felt dry and irritated (i dont use actives)My old routine wasAmCerave hyd cleanserAltruist SPF50PmSuperfacialist Vit C oil cleanserCerave Hyd CleanserCerave Moisturising LotionSo i decided to do nothing and for the last 5 days my skin has never looked better. I have no new acne and the ones i had are fading faster than you can say wtf.Buuuut i still want to use sunscreen. But i cant use a facial cleanser cause they irritate me and require i use a moisturiser at which point im back at square 1.Any advice. And please dont recommend products like cleansers unless they barely affect the oil and ph balance of the face and dont need any moisturiser afterwards. If any leave a tight feeling theyre a no goEdit: I was thinking of using a face wipe or micellar water i just want to remove sunscreen not full wash my face

[Personal] I gave up and my skin got clearer
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I started browsing this sub in 2016/2017 because I was sick of being 25 with hella oil and acne while everyone else around me had glowing, youthful, acne free skin. I tried a myriad of products in my 2 year SCA tenure from TO, Neutrogena, Cerave, Stridex, etc. Some products would clear up certain problems but lead to others (looking at you, Stridex in the red box, thank you for the cystic cheek acne). As I would develop new issues, my frustration increased and it led to a helpless feeling that clear skin might not happen for me. I accepted that a few months ago and as my products emptied, I didn't rush to replace them (mainly out of laziness but also because some of them are expensive and I didn't find them to help that much). Since May, I have washed my face with only water and moisturize with Cerave PM in the morning and night and my skin hasn't been this clear or oil free since I was a child. I know this is anecdotal, but if you are struggling with some of these issues I encourage you to give the "non-routine routine" a try, especially if you are starting to feel discouraged about your skin. You are all beautiful and no one has the perfect skin we all yearn for, but I have came closer to it than I ever have because I laid tf off.

[PSA] Walgreens has a tele-dermatologist that you only have to wait 3 days (at most) to see.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’ve had a rough summer, hormonally. I had a golfball sized ovarian cyst rupture, which triggered a bunch of hormonal changes. I needed to have my IUD removed and get put back on the pill. To say my face freaked out is an understatement.Over the last few months, I’ve started developing these cysts on my chin, jawline, and cheeks that just will not go away. After being reduced to tears over it multiple times, my SO gently suggested I see a dermatologist if I was so bothered by it. Of course, the problem with that is....it takes about 40 years to see a dermatologist.I poked around online to see what i could find, and got the usual recs for curology. I’d used it in the past with success, but this acne wasn’t responding to anything topical. I’ve been getting monthly facials and the esthetician hasn’t been able to perform extractions on these cysts because they’re so hard and so deep. Finally, I found DermatologistOnCall through Walgreens. The sign up process was really simple, and it was only $59, even though they didn’t take my insurance. I uploaded pictures of my face and described my situation, answering questions about recent health issues, what I’ve done in the past for acne, etc.I received a response from a dermatologist 40 minutes north of where I live about 45 minutes after submitting my appointment request. I was already asleep, so I answered his questions this morning, and went to my yoga class. When I came out, he diagnosed me with hormonal acne and prescribed spirolactone to treat it. I was able to pick up the prescription at my local pharmacy an hour later.Took my first dose about an hour ago, so we’ll see how it goes, but this was so easy and painless that I thought I’d recommend it to others!

I have dry flaking skin but also huge pores on my cheeks and nose. Can you suggest a routine that's vegan? ThanksAtm I'm using Weleda almond skin care and orange blossom water as a toner, but I'm not that consistent and my skin is still terrible and dry.

[Product Question] How long do vitamin c serum’s last before they start being ineffective?

Hi!My local Sephora has the Drunk Elephant Get Even kit in store and I’m really interested in buying it, but I’m just nervous that the vitamin c serum won’t even do anything anymore since the kit dropped in April of 2019 (I believe) and I don’t think they made anymore than those initial ones.

[Misc] I was thinking the other day how much has my skin improved ever since smoking in public places was forbidden
Beauty Tips For Body Care
For the past 3 years or so, my skin has definitely look better and better. I remember how irritated and tired I looked after going out just for a few hours, no matter where it was, because my skin would absorb the damn smoke. I was oily, red and had itchy bumps all over my face. Of course, those might've been caused by Malassezia, but the smoke was worsening it for sure. But not only I started caring for it more (and better), but now even my hair looks better, and I'm dyeing it now.

[Misc] App that incorporates SCA wisdom?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
There are so many hidden gems in the wiki in this sub! When I first joined this sub a couple months ago, I had no clue how to judge a product besides the price and wouldn't wear sunscreen regularly (I'm really guilty about this now). Now I could see through the marketing and packaging and understand (some) science behind it! Thank you!As an engineer, I couldn't help but wonder what if there is an app that incorporate all these science for product recommendation? There are things like cosdna which tells you the ingredient safeness, but there are more to that: e.g. chemicals that shouldn't be layered or would work better for certain skin types, etc. I think this would be helpful at least for beginners who would be quite lost stumbling across and reading through wiki takes quite some time and patience with all the terminology (I could confirm on this :P). What do you think? Feasible? Useful?

[Product Question] Am i doing the pimple patches wrong??
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I feel really dumb having to post this because there's so much information about them on this sub already but the hydrocolloid bandaids never work for me and I wanna know what Im doing wrong!Essentially when I have a spot I lance it with a clean, sterilized needle and slap one of those patches on there. I've tried everything from cosrx to a generic drugstore brand to blister patches (all of them say hydrocolloid bandaids or pimple patch on them). And when I go to take it off after a few hours or the next morning the patch is STUCK to my skin like glue and I have to peel it off often peeling the top layer of skin off with it and leaving a gaping gash in my skin worse than the actual pimple. And this gash usually does have a little yellow/white residue on it along with the dead skin but my skin is usually worse off than it started! My skin actually heals faster if I just pick at the pimple with my fingers instead of putting the patch on it... Why cant I slap one on and have my pimple disappear overnight like everyone else?? :(

[Misc] Do we all really need moisturizer?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I know this is definitely the wrong thread to be contesting this, but I’ve been reading articles about the benefits of not using moisturizers and I want to see if I can get an un-biased answer from the community. These articles talk about how for most normal people, (excluding people with conditions like eczema) our skin does a great job moisturizing itself. Often times we get dead skin and dry skin mixed up, and that’s why we feel the need to moisturize. Dead skin is good as it lets new healthy skin in. Moisturizers for normal healthy skin is bad as it disrupts our skins natural moisturizing cycle and makes it “lazy” and reliant on moisturizer. It also makes it harder for our skin to turnover and get rid of old dead skin for healthy new skin. A lot of this seems to make reasonable sense. For me, I used to never need moisturizer, but now whenever I got without it my skin feels dry and desperately in need of it. It does feel “lazy”.I’m not like ride or die with this, and I do want to hear everyone’s opinions because part of me does want to go a month without moisturizer and see how it affects my skin. Now the article isn’t “anti-product”. A lot of people have different skins and some people do need moisturizer, but I feel like we often emphasize the need for everyone to use moisturizer which I don’t feel is the case and is partly due to commercial advertising. These articles still recommend occasional cleansing and exfoliation and they heavily recommend sun screen. What are your un-biased opinions on this topic?

[Skin Concerns] Cleared up my acne but now dandruff is killing me!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I used to have exercise acne really bad. Dermotologist basically said "shit happens." After seeing some random post on a whim, I stopped using my 2 in 1 shampoo/conditioner and switched to an ACV shampoo only. Not using conditioner single handedly cleared up my skin.Only problem now is every day is like Christmas in July. Any good ideas to prevent dandruff that won't break me out? My skin is apparently super sensitive to random shit in my hair.

[Personal] How do I love myself?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I know people say just love yourself despite of all the flaws. But how can I? when every time I look in the mirror the imperfections are all that I see? Are there any practical steps that I can take to love myself more? I'm doing everything I can skin care wise but this I don't have an approach.

[Product question] Hydrating face mist to use during flight?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have very dry, dehydrated skin and fly frequently for work. I heard that using face mists can actually be drying instead of hydrating, but I really need something quick and easy to spray on my face when I feel it’s dehydrated during flight. Does anyone have recommendations for this? Or should I use a different product entirely to make sure my skin isn’t dehydrated during flight?? Thanks!

[Routine Help] Please help me figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
[routine help] I have tried a bunch of stuff but don't know how to get rid of these bumps that turn into acne down the line. I've tried using Cetaphil (cleaser and moisturizer) that seemed to work for a while with the ordinary squalene solution. I've just recently started using Cera ve (cleanser and moisturizer) to see if it would be any different from Cetaphil. I'm using it in conjunction with the squalene and retinol solution. I'm a hot mess. Please help, I'm desperate for my skin to be clear again. Thanks!https://m.imgur.com/gallery/638oINv

I'm a hot mess. Please help, I'm desperate for my skin to be clear again. Thanks!https://m.imgur.com/gallery/638oINv

[Skin concerns] Is my dermatologist doing me dirty?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi fellow ScA redditors I've got a story for you today.I just visited a dermatologist PA -- I actually made the appointment because I was having an eczema flareup on my face and needed an eval, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to also put in a couple other concerns in the notes section of my request.(So this is what I put in my "What is your reason for visiting today?" section):Eczema flareup, fyi restarted my steroidal creamPores are huge, do you have any adviceSignificant amount of large scarring lately... do you think it's my new exfoliatorMy skin is so dry that it becomes double oily throughout the day and it sucksAT NO POINT DID I MENTION HAVING ACNE, OR IT BEING A CONCERN. I'm aware that I have a good amount of acne, but it's fairly mild and treatable and more annoying during my period than anything. What my derm PA prescribed me was:Clindamyacin 1%Retin-A 0.025%The things is... both of these are acne medications, and both of them are drying (I have sensitive skin). Halfway through the appointment, I mentioned that I came in because of other concerns other than acne, and he said that the products would "probably help" with those.TL;DR: Did my derm consider my skincare needs in his treatment plan, or did he just prescribe me what he prescribes everybody else with acne?

[Skin Concerns] What moisturizers and creams would you recommend as suitable for genitalskin? Have you applied anything in this area?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've had problems with a tight foreskin, and after I was able to pull back the foreskin, the glans was extremely pink and oversensitive. I asked the medical side of this issue on the dermatology sub (18+/NSFW post about the glans as I included photos of the issue I had with pink colour of glans after pulling back the tight foreskin, but for context the glans appears pink and oversensitive, when I can pull back the foreskin). In general I was wondering what moisturizers and creams would be suitable for applying to genital skin? Do you recommend anything that is suitable and safe to use in this area? Do you use anything in this area yourself that is suitable?

[Skin Concern] I’m at my wit’s end. How do I get rid of these closed comedones all over my face?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Pictures (3 of both cheeks and chin) at the bottom.Recently I’ve been getting closed comedones all over my cheeks / chin area. I don’t know how to get rid of them and I feel like I’ve tried everything. Right now my routine is simple: mornings I wash with aveeno sensitive skin cleanser, apply sunscreen. PMs I use my cleanser again, use either: retinol 1% in squalane or stridex in red tub, or nothing at all. Then neutrogena oil free moisturizer on top.I only started using the stridex two weeks ago every few days and have seen no improvement in my skin, sometimes it causes eczema on my cheeks as well which are itchy and flaky.I tried to pop some of these closed comedones that don’t have a head and a lot of white stuff comes out, kind of like a very fresh blackhead...(ok that’s gross) I know I shouldn’t be picking but when they keep popping up it’s OH so tempting I just want those stupid buggers to be gone >:CAny suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My skin type is oily + sensitivehttps://imgur.com/a/e4GUU4M

[Acne] Pimples all over side of butt and thighs...Need Help
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I wouldn't be wasting space on this subreddit if I did not feel like I had no other valuable resource. I have made a throwaway because I am too embarrassed for this to appear on my main account. My issue lies in the region along the sides of the ass cheeks and side of the upper thigh, although I occasionally also have issues in the front upper thigh. The issue itself being the recurrence of large, swelling, mountainous pimples across the aforementioned regions. Pimples so plump and ripe that bumping them on a doorway or table will yield recoiling pain. These puss volcanoes usually spawn two or three at a time, on each side, and take the span of a week or two to actually go away.I have dealt with this to a lesser degree for many years, but recently it has gotten worse--the pimples have grown larger, more frequent, and greater in number. I am tired of being a slave to these growths, and I would like to exterminate their kind for all eternity.I believe the reason this issue has worsened recently is because I have recently switched to tighter compression short-style boxer brief underwear, which is made of a type of dry-fit, moisture-wicking material. I like these underpants because they fit tightly, keep my bits in place, and keep me dry while allowing me to move with great freedom.HOWEVER. I have come to suspect they might be the cause, mainly because the pimples exist solely in areas covered by my underwear, and I reasoned that the nature of these underwear might just be trapping sweat and dirt and other particles and not allowing for airflow, so all the dirt rests back on my skin and yields these obscenities. But my suspicions are just that--suspicions. So I turn to reddit and this community of skin-care enthusiasts to help me isolate the issue. I cannot be certain if this is causing it. Also, if it is the underwear, what are some tight-fitting boxer-brief style underwear that you would recommend? I WILL jump ship on these underwear if they are the cause. Also, some more information...I have tried various cleansers, talcum powder, etc. applied to the area to help keep it clean, and while this mitigated some of it, the pimples simple appeared just less often. I am willing to except if this is just genetic acne, but I believe there is something to be done.I am also mainly tired of these pimples because of the nasty dark marks they leave behind...I do not want to be uncomfortable showing skin to my partner or just by myself, which I currently am :(

[Product Question] Reasonably priced Hyaluronic Acid Serum?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Can anyone recommend a Hyaluronic Acid serum that isn’t crazy expensive that doesn’t leave a sticky residue on the face? I’ve used up all my DE B-Hydra serum and I love it but can’t justify spending that kind of money to re-purchase lol. Thank you in advance πππ

Hope this can help someone. Low Potassium was the cause of my cystic acne. [Personal]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I just want to try and help someone if maybe I can because my face was destroyed from this Cystic nightmare. So maybe if you have low potassium levels it's the cause of yours too.I never had acne growing up EVER. Then one day in my 30's I got really sick due to massive blood loss. Short version- I had a fibroid that grew over a 5 year span in my uterus and its location caused me to loose way more blood then a normal person durning my monthly. The bigger it got the more blood I lost. The more blood I lost, the more Vitamin decencies it caused. I had surgery to remove it, and Dr's gave me supplements to replace what was lost to get my levels back to normal. (To get an idea by the end right b4 I had surgery it got so bad I was going through super plus tampons in an hour and had an idiot dr who was doing nothing)Every time I got blood work I noticed my Potassium was low but from some reason they never put me on Potassium. I have gone to every Dr you can think of for my cystic acne (which started around the same time as when the heavy blood loss started). I even went to a Disease Specialist thats supposed to solve any medical mystery and had yet again no answer. Well this past time that I got blood work I said something about it being low. The Dr agreed and put me on Potassium supplements. Shortly after starting it my acne has stopped- my face is no longer oily, I don't have any cysts popping up. I googled Potassium and acne and nothing comes back but I haven't changed my routine or my eating habits or anything and some how I went from everyday cysts and trying to hide my face to being normal again. My skin is softer and looks better too. I don't know the relation but I know the Potassium is what saved me. So if this can help any person out there then thats the point of this post because for years I have had no answers.Of course if you are reading this don't try to self diagnose because Potassium is dangerous, you can die from to much in your system and vice verse. But if you get your blood work done, look at your Potassium levels. I just want to share because I have had no answers and finally FINALLY after ALL THESE YEARS that has been the cause and now I am back to normal again.TL;DR Potassium was low, given supplements from Dr, acne cured. Get blood work done to see if thats your issue to.

[Skin concerns] Stopped washing my face cleared up
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So basically I'm having acne since highschool, and from time to time I used some routines to try and clear it up. In the last few years my acne got so much better and sometimes I had a few days with a clear face but sometimes I suffered from long periods of red, dry and flaky face and of course acne. In the last few weeks I got into a routine that I suffered from it a lot, my face got really red, itchy and not a day without a few whiteheads. My GF told my to just stop with all the cleansers and moisturizers and the benzoyl and just give it a few days without washing it, only water. I'm now on my 14th day and my face never felt better and clearer than now. I'm so happy but also worried because I'm afraid it's just a temporary period before my face will become a mess again. Also I don't want to put nothing on my face including moisturizer, exfoliator and sunscreen. So what do you think? There is an explanation for this? And what should I do?

[Skin Concerns] So oily I am waiting for US army to appear on my face any day
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey! Been lurker for some time by now, but I need your help myself!I've completely changed my skincare this past year. I have always had awful skin - not really acne, but occasional whiteheads, blackheads, both dry and terribly oily skin. I have started to introduce some products recommended here, some from asian skincare, etc. It helped a lot, my pores are much clearer, dry patches disappeared, however... the oiliness is still terrible, even worse at times.I cannot go out without makeup, because the oil spills almost immediately from my pores, and I turn pink, I look like slick piglet. When I put on makeup/BB cream, put on powder.. I am oily in like... 2 hours. And i mean REALLY oily. I could work as a part-time disco ball in local club. Some products are better, some are worse, but it's not going to solve the main issue. No matter what I do, no matter what I try... nothing helps. If i go with no products under the makeup? Oil. If i put HA and (/or) primer under makeup? I am oily even SOONER. Even "matte" makeup fix spray did not help at all, and I feel sticky and oily even sooner than without it. It's annoying as hell and I am still having the anxiety if I do not have opportunity to go to toilet every 2 hours to blot the oil and powder myself again. And I am at the end of my wits. What do I use/do?I drink 2-3L of water a day, so I guess I am staying well hydratedNot smokerNo hormonal issuesNot using birth controlSkincare:Etude House - Wonder pore deep foaming cleanserEtude house - Wonder pore tonerThe Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% peeling solution (1x week)CosRx - BHA Blackhead Power liquid (3-4x week)The Ordinary - Lactic Acid 10% (1x week, i usually mix in a bit of HA to it)The Ordinary - Niacinamide (3-4x week)The Ordinary - HA 2% (every day)CeraVe Moisturising cream (every day)Biovene Aqua Sleeping mask (on top of cream, 3-4x week)occasional green clay maskoccassional asian sheet mask (depends, I have lots of them)I feel like I am moisturizing quite a lot and I have no clue what could be wrong.Any tips? Is there any culprit I am not seeing? Is there any magical "grail" that helped you to solve the issue over time? Thanks!

Is it time to start exfoliating again? [skin concerns]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I have a damaged moisture barrier and for the past 4 weeks have cut out all actives and focused on moisturising. When I first discovered I had a damaged barrier I had closed comodones on my cheek, which from what I’ve read is apparently normal. After 2 weeks of moisturising and using no actives those cc’s completely disappeared. But for the last 2 weeks I’ve been getting these really tiny, very deep under the skin bumps like all over my face. They’re really hard to see unless I look facing towards the light and they’re very deep so I can’t exactly extract them. It’s just a very bumpy texture. Now I can’t tell if this is as a result of not exfoliating for the past 4 weeks and if it’s time to start exfoliating again. Certain parts of my face are still dry and have that ‘I just rubbed sand paper on my face’ texture - so I know I still haven’t fully repaired my skin barrier but I don’t know why I’m getting so many of these tiny bumps everywhere? Btw these bumps are definitely different to the cc’s I had when I first discovered I damaged my skin barrier, those cc’s were extractable (although i didn’t extract them) but these bumps are not. It looks almost like a rash

[Routine Help] Starting over: Combo dry, dehydration-prone, sensitive skin
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Heyyy combo-dry, dehydration-prone, sensitive skinned peeps!I (24) need a new routine ASAP.After many months of overly treating my skin as oily due to my t-zone being oily, I’ve finally learned its dehydrated and the rest of my skin is combo DRY π I also realized my breakouts are hormonal. As of yesterday I was diagnosed with PCOS by my OBGYN who prescribed me Spironolactone and Yasmin as birth control. Took my Spironolactone (25 mg) this morning and I’m really excited for what’s to come ππΌWhile I wait, I want to care for my skin. Here’s what I have as a collection... Feel free to critique it, form something from those products. Or recommend things that you yourself swear by. I’m so appreciative.Notes: - Please no CeraVe Cream or FAB Ultra Repair Cream, and anything with witch hazel, alcohol denatured, and soybean. My skin does not like these products and ingredients.I’m from New England, USA so the summers are humid and Fall and winters are freezing.Concerns: Redness, irritation to fragrance and those ingredients above; dryness and dehydration, hormonal breakouts and mild hyperpigmentation.Because of the overly treating, I haven’t used NO skincare in 6 days. None. (I haven’t left my house so no worries π€·π»♀️) Letting my skin heal. And tbh it’s doing a lot better so I’m wondering if I even need anything at all? What do you think? I’m thinking of continuing this detox for a few more weeks. However I’d like something to fall back on when I slowly use things again. Here’s my skin currently.Budget: $5-50CleansersThinking of getting rid of Vanicream and replacing it with Cetaphil or something else...Chemical Exfoliators and Treatments:TO Niacinamide broke me out but I’m gonna keep it until I decide what to do with it lol I haven’t touched any of my other TO products yet: Squalane oil, Glycolic toner, AHA BHA peel, AzA 10%. Not pictured because they came in the mail the day after this photo was taken: Buffet, Granactive 2% Retinoid Emulsion, and NMF + HA moisturizer.Differin was 14 weeks of nothing but dehydration and irritation. Idk what to do with these tubes. Ugh...ScarAway Gel: This packaging was crap. The gel was so tacky when it would come out of the tube. Not fun. Not worth the money. All those zit zapper products were ok. They worked for like the first few times and then they stopped being effective? Has that happened to anyone else? The Stridex was fine but, on my skin, it made it feel tight so I stopped using them.Moisturizers and HydratorsHATE that Vaseline. My skin doesn’t like that shit at all. Used it as my occlusive for a week and my skin broke out in CCs around my chin and cheeks. Nope. Happened too with Aquaphor, so I only use it on my lips. That CosRx Oil Free Birch Sap lotion smells like shit. Absolutely horrible! I had to stop using it after 5 tries because my eyes stung. Also, it wasn’t hydrating at all. So pass.Yes I have the CeraVe Cream in travel size version but I tossed it afterward. It is so thick and gross. The Elf Essence is new so no review. Same with the Aveeno scrub but I can say I used it years ago and loved it.Cetaphil lotion and their moisturizer-sunscreen....These were okay? Nothing to write home about. That is a new 2nd container of Neutrogena Hydroboost and their Sensitive Skin moisturizer so lol i like Hydroboost but it isn’t enough for me? Does anyone feel that way?The CeraVe PM is good. I’m almost out but I am debating if I need to get a new one.HATED the CeraVe Healing Ointment. It’s crap. Gave it away to a friend after this photo was taken. The Palmers smells so so good! But I’m afraid the cocoa butter may be too much on my skin.... sigh.On its way: Hado Labo Premium Delivered but not used yet: Statria LGMasksNot pictured: Aztec Healing. It’s on its last leg lol Like it but don’t love it. On my sensitive skin, it’s so hard to take off. π

On my sensitive skin, it’s so hard to take off. π

What does it mean for a product to "brighten" skin? [Misc]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I'm trying to bulk up my skincare routine and I keep seeing products that say they will brighten the complexion (looking at you, The Ordinary). I never really thought much about it but after using their products I realized that I didn't really know what I should be looking for. What does it mean to "brighten" skin? Is it just another one of those bullshit industry terms used to sell products or is it an actual scientific phenomenon?

[Personal] I think I’m finally ready to post my 3 year progress from embarrassing hormonal acne to being comfortable with my skin
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Obligatory I’m on mobile so sorry. Also kind of a long one (apologies in advance). Skin pics are at bottom! When I began my senior year in college, my skin blew up. It was obvious to me, my family, my friends. I was mortified. I went from clear skin with the occasional period pimple to full blown red bumps and hundreds of CCs all around my mouth. What’s funny is I can actually tell you how it started: I discovered skin care.I was always obsessed with makeup. But my constant trips to sephora introduce me to new skin care items I didn’t know existed, pretty packaging, etc. This could have begun a healthy journey but I started trying everything under the moon (around junior year time frame). My skin reacted badly and soon I couldn’t fix it, even with going back to my normal routine. So I’m 2016 before going back to school I went to the dermatologist. I was prescribed the following routine:AM - neutrogena gentle cream cleanser - Skinceuticals phyto corrective gelPM - a sulfur face wash - Neutrogena gentle cream cleanser - Skinceuticals phyto corrective gelWasn’t prescribed a makeup remover or moisturizer so I picked the neutrogena makeup wipes and drunk elephant serum moisturizer (still obsessed with skin care remember)Within 5 months I had made tremendous progress. My acne was gone. But with that gone my absurdly visible PIE/PIH was around. I now had a new monster to tackle. I continued with my prescribed skin care items until they ran out, and then much to my stupidity, began experimenting with new products to solve my dark marks. So then we came back to the point between 2017- 2018 where I was an idiot again. You can see from the pictures. I didn’t let me skin heal, introduced harsh products, and my skin hated me for it. Looking back it’s shocking to me that I didn’t realize I was doing the same thing that got me into the whole mess. My skin was better than it’s worst, sure, but still awful in terms of what I wanted. So I’m the fall of 2019 I said “f*ck it” and decided to go as bare bones as possible. So here we are in July 2019, coinciding with my last progress pic. My routine is simple:PM - Ponds cleansing balm cleanser (for taking off makeup) - Neutrogena gentle cream cleanser as face wash (going back to my roots) - Thayers witch hazel toner - Sometimes I stop here and go to bed. Once or twice a week I put on murad skin lightening gel (outstanding PIE/PIH/melisma) with cerave in tub. Making sure to stay gentle here.AM - differin face wash a couple times a week in shower - Cocktail of DE rise & glow kit - Always sunscreenMy skin is no where near perfect as you can see from the pictures. Honestly don’t think it will ever be. But for the first time in a while I’m ok without makeup. I took pictures in the harshest sunlight today and didn’t hate my skin. I actually don’t have to wear foundation to work now (usually just concealer over a mix of sunscreen with DE bronze booster to match my face and body). This was an extremely long time coming. I point that out because so many posts on here show perfect skin in less than a year. While that’s attainable for some (I’m jealous!), for most people it isn’t reasonable. Changing your mind sight and expectations can make a world of difference. If I had this midnight two years ago my skin might now be fully healed because I wouldn’t have relapsed.TLDR: Being gentle and kind to your skin has to be your number one priority. I promise it will payoff. Skin pics below.https://imgur.com/gallery/ZRrzI7C
