[misc] How do I tell my mum that she has NO RIGHT to lecture me about my skin as if it’s her problem

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Various things she’s said“Ever since you started using skincare products, your skin has gotten worse than ever, you should stop using products”“I am older than you therefore I know more than your about skin”“If you did so much ‘research’ then why isn’t your skin better”“Maybe you should switch out products if you know they aren’t working (referring to the Krave Matcha cleanser I bought literally 1 month ago), you should know when to stop if it’s not workingIt seems as though she thinks that by choosing the right products that my acne will MAGICALLY go away. Tried to tell her that’s not how it works and that skin fluctuates in quality sometimes but she’s ignoring me now lol.And to make it worse I’ve literally JUST turned 15. All the bumps that have recently popped up on my face are more because of HORMONES and PUBERTY than anything but she refuses to accept that.I’d appreciate it if any of you kind souls write me an up open letter to respond to all of her concerns above so that I can have my mum read so she can understand. She refuses to listen to me even when I try to reason with her .-.

Sometimes I get severely depressed and I can’t get the motivation to do my routine but I know my face feels gross and I should cleanse it. Is there any tips you guys have that are simple like a good wipe for the days I can’t do my routine, or tricks some have found to get to the sink and just do it? I know it sounds really stupid, it’s just a simple task. But I just can’t some days. Please don’t judge me I just am hoping for something small to help. Thank you in advance

[Product Question] Occlusives + morning eye irritation?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey guys, so turns out Vaseline is my holy grail. Like, the difference between using and not is frigging incredible. The problem is, whenever I do use it, I wake up with really bad eye irritation. My waterline and eyeball will get red, and the whole area around it is puffy. It looks awful and like I was up all night crying. My eyeball also feels gritty.Has anyone else experienced this, and found any solution? I don’t particularly put it around my eyes, but it still somehow migrates there. Btw, this also happens with CeraVe occlusive ointment, Aquaphor, and even LRP cicaplast. How do I fix this so I can keep having nice skin :(

[Routine Help] Does anyone have a product suggestion to replace the Cerave SA cleanser? Has been out of stock EVERYWHERE for months!

Basically what the title says. I live in Ontario, Canada, and Cerave's SA cleanser is my go-to for my sebaceous-filaments/blackheads, large pores, and textured skin, but has been out of stock everywhere for months. On their website, amazon, shoppers drug mart, Walmart... And it's been like this for months. If you check out their reviews on their website you can see that I'm not the only one with this issue. Everyone wants it back in stock. So I'm not crazy, lol. Please if anyone has any ideas on a good substitute product in the meantime, please let me know! I'm really just looking for another affordable salicylic acid cleanser that will help me with my large blackhead/sebaceous clogged pores to use until Cerave brings their SA cleanser back.

[miscellaneous] I'm starting a support group for people mentally struggling with their skin.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Over the past few months I've had a good amount of people reach out to me on my posts and in DMs - people who have been struggling with similar skin issues but more importantly, similar anxieties and depression over the state of their skin. It's become apparent to me that I'm not alone in this experience, especially the feelings of isolation, search for knowledge, and hope for healing.I've spoken to a few of you on the phone, and each time I come away having learned more and feeling like I connected to someone who was also in need of support. I'm starting a virtual support group for people who are struggling with their skin - whether it be acne, rosacea, dehydration, or even obsessive/body dysmorphic tendencies for issues that are not visibly severe.Of course, I'm not a therapist or a specialist of any kind. I work at a tech company as a data analyst. But I was a teacher at a well-known data analytics bootcamp where I taught classes of 30 people virtually, so I have experience facilitating meetings. I'm imagining a few guidelines but am open to suggestions:Meet once or twice a month, on ZoomCameras will be encouraged to be on, but optionalMeetings will be freeMeetings will never be recordedMy goal is two-fold: to. provide a safe place for people to share their stories / struggles and give support to each other, and to share knowledge about skincare. If you're interested, leave a comment or DM me with your email. I hope this is allowed to be posted on this sub, mods, please forgive me if not or let me know of another venue. I'll plan to collect contacts over the next week or so and have a first session in January 2021, hopefully a better year for us all. :)

If am, follow with sunscreen or skip perfect gel and do ilia perfect serumThis has worked WONDERS for my texture and am getting almost no new breakouts. Best skin I’ve had in years. However, I still have a bunch of stubborn dark spots. I tried the P50 PIGM400 but I think the P50 is better for me.I just purchased shark sauce and el dorado from holy snails but I’m not sure in what order I should apply them with my current products?Any recommendation on order or other products to try would be wonderfulThank you so much!!

[Product question] A wipe to help avoid "maskne" (mask induced acne) for nurse working 12 hour shifts?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have a pretty simple skin care routine, just a face wash and light moisturizer and haven't ever had much of a problem. I'm a nurse and work 12 hour shifts which these days means wearing at least a surgical mask and sometimes a surgical mask on top of an n95 mask for the whole 12 hours I'm at work minus when I'm eating. I also have a breastfeeding 10 month old and spend my breaks pumping while I eat, so I have basically no time to go wash my face. I've been getting some "maskne" and my face just generally feels gross under my mask, like sweaty and oily and grimy.I'm looking for any advice on face wipes. In searching the sub I see they are generally not recommended but in my case it's either a wipe or just leave all that gunk on my face and put my mask back on top of it for the rest of the day. I'd prefer wipes over a cleanser and cloths/pads as they'd be lighter to carry around. Anything others have found that works well in combatting the dreaded maskne without leaving additional residue on your face? Thanks!

[Personal] I just got fraxel and I’m worried I made a terrible mistake

Beauty Tips For Body Care
It’s basically in the title. I (M22) have some acne scarring so I went to a medical spa (under the supervision of an actual dermatologist) to see what kinds of treatments they offered, and after first getting one micro needling treatment I decided I wanted faster results and agreed to do fraxel.I was a bit scared by some things I’ve read about side effects of fraxel changing your face in ways you didn’t want, but I was reassured that tons of people get fraxel all the time and most of them are fine.I just got the treatment an hour ago, and man do I regret it. My face feels like it’s on fire, my skin is covered in those little dots, and my skin is insanely red. I’m so worried I’ve messed up my skin forever.People of Reddit who have gotten fraxel, can you share your experiences? I’m looking for reassurance so positive stories only please :)

4 month adapalene journey [acne]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I wanted to share my 4 month results with adapalene - pic 1 & 2 were before, lots of bumps (filled with pus if squeezed), couldn’t be seen in certain lights but terribly noticeable with makeup. I was I down about it I didn’t want to go out! Pic 3 was my purge during treatment, happened around month 2, my skin turned more to cystic acne. Pic 4 is now, 4 months on, no noticeable texture. My routine is very simple, Cetaphil cleanser or simple cleansing oil to remove makeup. Simple micellar face wash, simple toner and boots own hyaluronic acid moisturiser. After playing around with lots of products and routines with many steps I realised my skin is better with less products, I don’t wear foundation unless it’s a special occasional, just spot conceal day to day.Pics - https://imgur.com/a/eWsVBMZ

[Misc] Skincare YouTube channels carrying the community on their back.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
For a long while, I felt like I was stuck in a bubble of the same 3-4 influencers that have morphed into reaction channels, with no real reviews and swatches. Armed with newfound free time, thanks to quarantine, and Jackie Aina’s video on fixing your social media algorithm, I set out to diversify my skincare YouTube feed. After months of concerted efforts, I’m happy with my feed and I wanted to share some of the wonderful channels I found along the way!Simply Ije:She does a lot of skincare and lifestyle videos, my favorite from her has to be her product comparison series. Her reviews are very detailed and I can tell she’s given a product an honest try before making her conclusions. Ije also has a series on sunscreen for dark skin that a lot of folks may find helpful. As a side-note, her perfume recommendations are just chef’s kiss.Chinmayi Sripada:ICON! I refrain from stan-culture but Chinmayi is the only exception. She does a lot of k-beauty skincare reviews along with some Indian lifestyle content but she truly shines during her collaborations with dermatologists, gynecologists, and other skincare social figures, like the queen, fiddysnails. She talks openly about a lot of social issues and typically “taboo” topics in Indian culture like vaginal and reproductive health. My uncultured ass can only wish to have an iota of grace and character Chinmayi does.Cathy on Skincare:Cathy’s channel is pretty new but her videos are well-produced and well-researched. She does quite a few reviews and her ingredient breakdowns are pretty easy to understand for newbies. Honestly, half the reason I follow her is because she has such a calming voice and an infectious smile.April Basi:April’s a cosmetic chemist, although some of her videos seems a bit clickbait-y (à la, “the TRUTH about XYZ”), I stay for the videos where she talks about products from a chemist’s perspective.Glow by Ramón:LOVE Ramon’s sunscreen reviews, they’re easily some of the best out there. He tries out the sunscreen for an entire day and then tries it on with makeup to do a wear test. Even though I don’t wear makeup, I appreciate the effort that goes into those videos.Lateef Saka:Found Lateef through Ramon and immediately shared him with my partner who has a rich skin tone with a beard, so finding a sunscreen for him is trickier than for most. Lateef does great reviews and ingredient breakdowns. The Style and Beauty Doctor:Danielle talks a lot about treating hyper-pigmentation and sunscreen, especially for deeper skin. She also reviews peels and dermatologist procedures like filler and botox. I personally love her Point Blank series.Director Pi:This woman is a legend. I can’t believe the content she puts out is free. If you’re interested in Korean beauty, Director Pi is your glossary of products. I honestly think she’s reviewed every single skincare product in the Korean market, that’s no exaggeration. Her videos are so well researched, with swatches, ingredient analyses, and all that you could ever want.Sarah Sarosh:Sarah is underrated in the Indian influencer sphere. She does mostly lifestyle content with a bit of skincare mixed in. I really enjoy her hyper-pigmentation series and her honest struggle with hormonal acne. She’s also one of the few Indian influencers who’s open about sponsorships and who celebrated Pride week in India.Jacob Degerano:Jacob does a mix of skincare and lifestyle content. He has a measured take on skincare and if you want to try something new, Jacob’s recommendations are generally outside the Ordinary-CeraVe product loop.Genevieve Fields:How is she not a big deal?! Is there an Asian sunscreen you want a swatch for? Genevieve probably has a review on it. Her videos are short, informative, and will answer any and all questions about the product. She single-handedly dictated my sunscreen purchases when I first got into skincare and I frequently revisit her videos. Some more channels:Kaya EmpireSarah PalmyraTina Tanaka HarrisKevin Cho

[Skin Concerns] Allergic Reaction or Crazy Chapped???

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone! I hope I’m doing this correctly but I’m at the absolute end of my rope with this—I’ve been experiencing a really uncomfortable rash on the top and bottom of my lips for the last couple of weeks and can’t for the life of me figure out if it’s due to severe chapping or is some sort of reaction to something I’m using.my lips this morningI wake up with some light swelling and the itchiness intensifies as the swelling decreases throughout the day. I don’t experience any flakiness on my actual lips, but they definitely wrinkle up in response to the decreased swelling. Thanks to COVID, I leave the house once a day at most, always with a fresh mask, and don’t talk with it on— so I feel okay ruling out weather-related irritation. The pictures I’ve seen of perioral dermatitis don’t seem to be what’s going on, as the rash doesn’t comprise of small bumps, just darker red rings around my lips. I don’t lick my lips at all but am definitely guilty of using a huge variety of lip products to try and calm the pain and itching down. I’ve recently stopped use of everything but the Laneige lip sleeping mask, with Neosporin on the larger raw patch at the bottom of my lip at night.I read a recent post where the user suggested abstaining from all lip products for two weeks and tbh cried a little bit at the idea of it. Is there anything else I can do to try and figure out what’s going on?Nothing about my facial skincare routine has changed in the last couple of months, but I’m listing it below just in case!Morning• Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum (avoiding the bottom half of my face since the rash started showing up)• The Ordinary Caffeine Solution• CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion• Purito Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50 (I know :( will be changing out for an actually effective sunscreen as soon as I run out)Evening• Purito Centella Buffet Serum• CosRX Snail Peptide Eye Cream• CosRX Snail 92 All in One Cream• CosRX Nourishing Rice Overnight Spa MaskThanks so much in advance for taking the time to read this— I’m open to any and all suggestions

[Personal] My girlfriend has extreme eczema. What can she do more?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey everybody,My girlfriend (22F) has had eczema for her entire life now. The last few days have been extreme. Normally she can handle it pretty OK, but these last few days she has cried a couple of times due to the pain it causes her. She also can barley sleep because of it.I told her to go see a dermatologist. She has gone to one before, but it only became worse and she is now afraid and ashamed to go see one.I know she uses ‘fatty’ cream (if that’s the right term - English isn’t my first language). In that cream there are certain hormones. She also uses oil.Her skin gets extremely dry and she gets little wounds in her skin due to this. It’s also extremely irritating, so she scratches herself like.. a lot.The only thing that really helped her (as far as I know) is prednison. This is a drug that helps kill severe inflammations. The drug is not good for the body so she doesn’t uses it often.Do any of you have any tips or tricks? I really want to help her. Thanks!

[Personal] Stop analyzing your face in the mirror

Beauty Tips For Body Care
When I was in my mid-20s, my cheeks lost their youthful roundness and my face got narrower. When I turned 27, I started noticing deeper undereye circles for the first time. When I turned 29, my porcelain skin started getting visible pores. When I turned 30 I had 2 fine lines on my forehead. When I turned 31 I had more skin on my face with visible pores than not. I would spend time in the mirror feeling depressed and willing myself to look how I did when I was in my early 20s. But life (and skin) is not like that. Am I taking care of myself and my skin? Am I doing the best I can? Yes, so if you are like me, STOP with the mirror analysis.Watching the slow march of my visible pores and appearance of fine lines that were not there 5 years ago made me feel depressed. You are beautiful and aging is okay and normal. You are not an Instagram filter.

[Acne] whiteheads!! could be a sign of damaged barrier

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I have mild to moderate acne and I started skincare somewhere around June this year and I realised I started to get white heads which I had never gotten before. My routine was something like morning (wash w water, moisturise, spf) and night (cleanser, paula's choice BHA 4x a week, moisturise) So BHA is meant to unclog pores right? So I obviously eliminated it as the culprit causing my whiteheads and started thinking it was my moisturiser which I used cerave PM back then and started switching it to others such as neutrogena hydroboost gel cream (no fragrance version) and also IUNIK calming gel cream. I was very careful to choose non-comodogenic moisturizers BUT the white heads still came every morning when I woke up!! I got pretty frustrated wondering why so many moisturisers with good reviews did not work for me. Until I came across a comment on reddit recently about how a damaged skin barrier or moisture barrier could lead to inflammation and white heads. So I removed all the actives from my routine (BHA and differin which I started two weeks ago), and just stuck with cleanse, moisturise and spf and four days in, I'm only left with one or two white heads when I wake up!! And my skins started to glow as well. I guess I really damaged my moisture barrier (at my peak I used differin 4x a week and BHA 1x a week) and also previously when I was just using BHA, 4x was definitely too much, which led to my constant white heads. MORAL OF THE STORY: protect ur moisture/skin barrier!! and overusing actives may actually make ur skin worse. I'm intending to introduce back my actives slowly once I feel that my skin is strong enough. Cheers and merry skincare everybody :)

[Review]CeraVe Hydrating Sunscreen SPF 50

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Y’all, after seeing some people post that they’ve purchased this I decided to give it a try. I’ve been on a continual journey of finding a sunscreen that fits in with my daily routine and is also hydrating enough with these masks we’re wearing. Since it has “hydrating” in the name, I was so stoked. I just tried it for the first time a few min ago, and it was a nightmare. The sunscreen was chalk white and would not rub into my skin almost at all. It looked like I straight had white stage makeup on my face. I’m so disappointed and really wanted it to work out. I considered taking a selfie to share just how bad it is, but didn’t want my first pic on Reddit to be me looking like Mark Zuckerberg at the beach.

I rarely get any skin issues but for some reason I've been getting these white bumps under my eyes in the last couple of months to the point I had to visit dermatologist. She recommended Glycolic Acid (Ordinary), so I applied it for a few days once a day and not only it removed 7 out of 8 bumbs it also made my skin very shiny and nice.Just wanted to share, maybe someone else is struggling with same issue. Be careful with the acid around eye area.

[Routine Help] Lazy Dad looking for skincare routine advice

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello,I am a 32 year old dad of 2 toddlers with a new baby due any day now. As the title states, I am quite lazy when it comes to my personal hygiene. Don't get me wrong, I am (usually) not a stinky, dirty man. But when it comes to doing anything more than a daily shower, weekly shampooing/conditioning I am a lost cause. My current "skincare routine" consists of a weekly exfoliating scrub with a charcoal soap and no moisturizing. In the past I have attempted a dedicated skincare routine of twice daily cleansing followed by moisturizing, and exfoliating a couple of times a week. The results have not really done anything to improve the look or feel of my skin, and I can't justify the cost to continue.I've noticed in the last few weeks that the skin around my nose and in between my eyebrows have been really dry. Flaky white skin after I shower. My solution was to start putting coconut oil on my face at night time, but very little internet research has led me to believe that this is now considered not to be the miracle solution from 5 years agoSo. I am looking for suggestions on a simple, low fus, low cost solution. I am unsure what type of skin I have, but if I were to guess it would be combination going slightly toward dry. I would prefer something that is natural, similar to coconut oil. If there is one single product I can use with just a daily night time application I would be very happy.Thank you for your time and considerations .Lazy dad,

[Misc] Recently started watching Dr Dray and am a tad confused

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So for anyone here who has seen her videos (especially ones where she denounces the claims made and faulty studies touting certain ingredients/products) what do you think of her extremely reductionistic approach to skincare?I must say the fact that she is a board certified dermatologist and also supports all of her statements regarding skincare with peer reviewed science makes me quite motivated to believe what she says. And she has made statements such as:(1) petrolatum is the gold standard moisturizing ingredient(2) vitamin C doesn't have enough evidence proving that it topically can benefit skin(3) most exfoliation beyond simply running water over your skin is unnecessaryAnd honestly, I am starting to believe that all three of these things might just be true (simply because there are studies [or a lack thereof] to prove that what she is saying is true). So honestly, how have people here received her on these topics? Has her advice and reasoning on her channel gotten you to change how you structure your skincare routine?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I am 22 years old and I do not know many people with the acne I have. My acne has been better this year because of starting to use some ordinary products. However, I feel like most people sometimes get a pimple and it is completely healed after a few days, but for me, it feels like it stays on my face for months. I also have some hyperpigmentation/red spots on my cheeks that have been there for more than a year. Does anyone know what can be the cause of this and how I can treat it?

[Review] [PSA] The Inkey list Oat Cleansing Balm review and a PSA: sensitive skinned folks beware!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
A bit about me and my skin: I’m 34F, dealing with dry, acne prone and sensitive skin.I’m still on the hunt for my perfect routine and cleansing products are a bit of a problem area for me. However, I have discovered that my skin reacts well to double cleansing in the PM, with a balm or oil followed by a gentle cream cleanser.I have been trying to eliminate essential oils from my routine, so recently I switched my balm cleanser (Evolve gentle cleansing melt) to the Oat Cleansing Balm from the Inkey list. All I ever read were rave reviews and how great it is for sensitive skin etc. I was really excited about it since it seemed to check all the boxes.HOWEVER, when I tried it I immediately felt how the concistensy felt thick and gloopy and worst of all, SCRATCHY!! The ”colloidal” oatmeal in this product is like a dry oat FLOUR and it works more like a physical exfoliator than a cleansing balm. There is not alot of slip to this product so the only way to work it across the skin is to rub. No matter how lightly and gentle I tried to do it, using only my fingertips, warming it up in my hands before putting it on my face etc, it still managed to over exfoliate my skin and wreck my moisture barrier in only about 5 nights 😩So if your skin is sensitive like mine, and especially if you can’t tolerate physical scrubs/exfoliation, this product is NOT for you!It has now been banned to my shower as a body scrub/wash lotion. 1/10 WNRP!

[haul] A little Christmas gift haul! Initial thoughts on Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Cream, Stratia Liquid Gold, and a few others for my dry and dehydrated winter skin!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
https://preview.redd.it/fqd8x6ldjy761.jpg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ba8ef462b200e783794017b1d9dc3bee84ae41ddSo, since I got these for Christmas I've obviously only used them a handful of times! That said, I'm excited, so I wanted to post and share my initial thoughts. Most excited about:Stratia Liquid Gold and Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Cream! I've been wanting to try these for a while, but just could not justify spending the money. So far both have honestly lived up to the hype for me. I did not do a good job of following smart advice and immediately started using both without patch testing. :) Both of these are products designed for moisture barrier repair, and both advertised as being ceramide heavy (both products being some of the few that do not use only the minimum amount possible of the SK-influx, although the actual impact of the ceramides in these products is still not very clear)I am completely in love with the LG. I can understand the cult following. It is very light and thin, maybe somewhere between a serum and a lotion consistency. It immediately feels soothing, hydrating, and moisurizing. I'm not sure how to explain it, but my face feels happy! I also love the packaging and airless pump, and a single pump is enough to cover my face. I have to resist using more because I seriously just want to slather this on my face! It does not leave me oily or greasy at all. It is fully absorbed and dries down completely matte on my dry skin.I'm also really amped about the Ceramidin Cream so far! It is very thick and almost balmy. It is scented, and I find it strong at application but pretty short lasting (important for me because I'm sensitive to scents and tend to get headaches from anything strongly perfumed-- fortunately my skin isn't terribly sensitive to them). This is the first product that I have used that is heavy enough to leave my face feeling completely moisturized but doesn't leave it greasy or oily. I am able to use a little more than a pea sized amount for my whole face. The other heavy duty moisturizers I've used are Eucerin Advanced Repair Lotion and LRP's Lipikar Balm AP+ (I like them both, but so far this is clearly superior and more useable every day). This really gives me the feeling of having "normal skin" and seriously reduced dryness and flakiness almost immediately.I am still worried about both products causing breakouts. After only a few days I can't say too much, but if anything my skin is looking clearer. No increased congestion or anything so far. Again, my skin is dry and dehydrated, and it's not particularly acne prone, so this may not be the case for everyone-- I have the type of skin these products seem most recommended for. I do not think either product will be game changing for anyone with skin that is easily kept hydrated and moisturized-- I think many of people who review these products and feel that they are no different from any other moisturizer fall in this category. The rest:Haven't tried the Dr. Jart+ Vital Hyrdra Solution yet. I hate face masks because you only get one use out of them, but this is well reviewed and I'm looking forward to giving it a try!The Dr. Jart+ Cicapair Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment hasn't wowed me. My biggest complaint is the same one I have with most face makeup type products: it looks terrible on any dry patches. I am still really struggling to keep my skin dry patch free, and most products end up making my skin look much worse because of that (highlighting gross flakes that weren't even visible before). I'm still experimenting with how to use it, so we'll see, but I doubt I will repurchase (especially considering the price point). Coverage is light, and it's completely unusable for anyone without a very fair skin tone. The SPF part is nice. The Burt's Bees Pomegranate Moisurizing Lip Balm is an oldy but a goodie! Can't go wrong with it as an everyday chapstick. I do prefer Aquaphor when my lips are in real trouble. And the Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream is just eh to be honest. It is a bunch of oils in beeswax, so nothing ground breaking. It's okay layered over a heavy hand cream, but I feel like it just sits there and doesn't absorb when I apply it on my dry cuticles.

[Review] A review of Frownies facial patches after ~8 months continuous use

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Before I begin I must apologise for not having photos, at the start of trying them I wasn't even thinking about reviewing! After using Frownies for around 8 months continuously, in order to treat a targeted problem, I think I have sufficient experience with them to weigh in on their use and effectiveness and write a review for others.TLDR/Short Review: I used Frownies between my eyebrows and at my top forehead to specifically address wrinkles caused by face scrunching in my sleep. After 8 months of continuous use I found them to be an effective and affordable alternative to botox, but they do require continuous use and would only work if your wrinkles are from face movement and not age.Extended Review:My skin problem/goal: I used these for a targeted problem. I'm a face scruncher at night, and was getting pronounced lines in 3 key areas, 1) 11s (ie. just at inner corners of eyebrows, 2) in the middle between the eyebrows, and 3) one horizontal line at the top of the forehead near the hairline. There's nothing retinol and moisturizer can do to fight that degree of scrunching, so it was either botox or these to prevent the problem (freeze the muscles). The oldest wrinkles are the top forehead and middle eyebrow. 11s ) are just starting to form.Exact product tested: Frownies Facial Patches For Forehead and Between Eyes. ~$35 CAD, available at numerous retailers. Comes with 144 patches so its basically a 5 month supply, which is why I chose it over botox (student budget). My use: used almost every night since I began using them. Used one just between eyes, and cut another into a long strip to place at the top of the forehead near the hairline, where I was getting the other wrinkle. Only took breaks for a few camping trips. I used them only when asleep, so applied right before bed and took them off first thing in the morning. Applied and removed with normal tap water. I applied all skin care products underneath it and it still stuck fine - only face oils would impair the adhesive.Other products used during trial: No new skin care products introduced during 8 month period. My routine is simple - wash with water in morning, & with combo of Lush Ultrabland and AquaMarina at night, rosewater as toner, aloe vera, and a heavy natural moisturizer at night. SPF 30 also used every day year round. No retinols or serums used so that wouldn't impact my assessment of Frownies.8 Month result: 11s have disappeared, and line just in the middle between eyebrows (which was the older/longer developed and more deep line) is significantly reduced but not eliminated. If you look close you can still see it, but not from a normal conversation distance. If I scrunch my face in the mirror it does linger for a few seconds, but the 11s don't anymore. Top forehead line pretty much gone, however like middle brow if I scrunch my face it lingers a bit. If I stop using them for a period of time (like when I camped) the middle brow and top forehead lines do return, however not as bad as before starting Frownies. The newer 11s do not return if I stop using Frownies for a few days.Final Assessment: These are a targeted solution to a specific problem. I see them being very useful if you suffer from face scrunching at night, or are a side sleeper and your face gets mushed. I don't see how they would be effective at reducing wrinkles if thats not the source of your problem (aka your wrinkles are age/gravity based). They were very effective at halting further development of old, deep set wrinkles, and reversed newer fine lines. They required continuous use, and after a break you'll find the older, deep wrinkles return again, however it's definitely not "back to square one", they're still reduced. I see these as being a great, natural stand in for botox. While botox is probably safe and is certainly effective, not everyone is comfortable with injections, not everyone has the budget, and people with dismorphia may be concerned about botox being a "gateway drug" to never ending filler/injections/surgery. These are an excellent, natural, reversible, non-invasive, and cheap ($35 CAD for a 5 month supply) solution that act in a nearly identical way to botox - basically preventing wrinkles by "freezing" certain muscles, as long as use is continuous. I did not find applying them any more burdensome that applying any serum, and I did not find them uncomfortable to wear.Do I recommend?: Yes

[routine help] looking for oil cleanser (or balm) recommendations for oily, acne-prone skin

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’ve never tried an oil or balm cleaner before. I’ve been using the Bioderma sensibio micellar water as my first cleanse in the PM, but I don’t like the cotton pad waste and I think that rubbing cotton pads on my face must be a bit harsh since my face turns a bit red in some areas.I wear waterproof sunscreen every day so I’m also not sure if the micellar water is enough for removing it.I’m pretty scared to try an oil cleanser since soooo many products break me out. When I researched oil cleaners specifically for acne prone skin, the majority contain ethylhexyl palmitate, which seems to be very comedogenic. What might be a good starting point or should I stick to my micellar water?

[Misc] Humidifiers for your skin are LIFE CHANGING if the air around you is dry!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
With the weather changing where I live and getting colder and drier with winter, my skin has gotten crazy dry. This had never happened to me before because I have oily/combo skin but I've been using tretinoin and my skin responds differently to dry air now. I tried more moisturizers, buffering the tretinoin, more hydrating serums, etc. which helped a little, but absolutely nothing has helped me the way getting a humidifier has. I think my skin was dehydrated even before I started using tretinoin because my skin has never looked this good. I had glabella lines that were noticeable to me (which is crazy because I'm only 25) but now they are completely gone. I thought I frowned too much, but my skin was just super dehydrated in that area. My lips had been dry to the point that they were bleeding and peeling before, but overnight it was gone and my lips were softer than they've been in months. And that happened after the first night of using a humidifier. My skin had been breaking out and even the breakouts calmed down the next day. This is the most drastic change in my skin I think I've ever seen, no product I've used even comes close.

[Miscellaneous] Does anyone else think that vitamin C isn't worth it?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've used Ole Henricksen's Truth Serum, Rohto Melano, Timeless, Derma E's serum, and The Ordinary's Vitamin C suspended in silicone. The hunt for a stable form of l-ascorbic acid takes way too much time and seems doomed to failure. I'm using the Timeless now and it turned yellow within a month. It can still be used until it turns orange, but eesh that was fast. It's in airless pump packaging and I keep it in a cupboard out of the light. I know some people keep theirs in the fridge and this prolongs the life of the product, but I am not darting to the kitchen in the middle of my morning routine. Nor am I putting a mini fridge in my bathroom for one product. I can't be the only one who thinks that if I pay for a product I should be able to use it under normal bathroom conditions, can I?I can't tell if any of these are doing a nothing. The Ole Henricksen did nothing. It smelled amazing, but it was a total waste of money. Derma E also smelled amazing and it seemed to temporarily brighten my face when I applied it, but it didn't really fade any hyperpigmentation. The Root Melano, this one is such a pain. There are so many fake sellers online. I did manage to get a real one and it stings, so that made me feel it was doing something (as messed up as that sounds), but they don't reveal the percentage of ingredients in it, and again, did it do anything? I don't know. And the Ordinary's suspended in silicone. This product is a hot mess. It's gritty, it burns, and it balls up on my fingers before I'm even done applying it. It pills like crazy under sunscreen and moisturizer. It's unusable in my opinion. So, anyone else out there just fed up with trying to find a good vitamin C and starting to question if it's worth it or if any of the gazillion options out there even do anything?

[DIY] Honey as lip balm

Beauty Tips For Body Care
This is my first post on Reddit, so I apologize in advance if I’m doing anything wrong haha.I wanted to share that I’ve been looking for a chapstick/lip balm that would actually keep my lips hydrated and soft long term. I hated how everything made them soft once applied, but after an hour or so, they were back to dry.I noticed when I apply my face stuff, if I rubbed the hyaluronic acid over my lips, they’d actually be so hydrated they appeared plumper. I also noted the same would happened after using my homemade honey + coconut oil + sugar lip scrub. So I started researching, and found out that honey attracts water/draws moister down into your lips similar to how hyaluronic acid draws water into your skin.I made my own honey + coconut oil lip balm and now that’s all I use as lip gloss, chapstick, balm, anything. It’s not sticky like one might think. I find it’s stickier if I only apply a little, but if I really slather it on it just feels like a heavier lip balm. It could be used as a nighttime lip mask if you aren’t comfortable wearing it during the day. The honey draws moisture into your lips, and the coconut oil locks it in. My lips look super full and are now actually softened! Like when it wears off, my lips are soft and nourished.I didn’t use any specific measurement. All I know is it’s organic honey, and coconut oil. More honey than coconut oil so it does not become solid in storage.Thought I would share!

[Personal] Finally found the product that my lips were reacting to...

Beauty Tips For Body Care
... it was my partner’s lip balm. After over five years of my lips having allergic reactions on-and-off, I have found the culprit. My lips would become swollen, itchy, burned, chucks of skin would peel off. Cycle would repeat. I was very self-conscious of my lips.I had no idea what was triggering my delayed allergic reaction. Eventually, I ended up seeing a dermatologist, to hopefully narrow down the cause. After a while, I eventually considered maybe it was the lip balm that my partner used. I patch tested the product on half of the my lips and waited. After less than a day, I started developing early signs of localised allergic reaction. Bingo?I took the chapstick to be patch tested, along with my other personal products. Patch testing was self-inflicted torture, but worth it. The week-long patch testing found that I was allergic to the lip balm, limonene and tea tree oil! I had a very irritable reaction to that lip balm, with skin peeling and inflammation.Ever since I told my partner to stop using the lip balm, I have not suffered from any allergic reactions!!

[PSA] The director of Korea Skin Science Institute has released a video talking about the test results of the sunscreens they tested.

hello everyone! it’s my first post here in this sun and i’ve been asked to post this here after posting it on r/asianbeauty.video link: https://youtu.be/DfUf2Q0P5lAi do not speak or understand korean so i’m just going off from the subtitles!unfortunately, they didn’t reveal the results of the sunscreens tested. i’m guessing there’s some legal things involved that prevents them from doing so as the announcement that was posted on instagram with the sunscreens they are testing has also been deleted.they also explained why the test results they gotten from the purito sunscreen is different from the test posted by incidecoder. they explained it was because they used different testing equipments and slightly different conditions.around 3:19 of the video, there’s no subtitles provided for what is stated on the screen. it would be great if someone can help translate what is stated on the screen as google translate was unable to translate it for me.however, in the video they revealed that they also did in vivo testing on 5 of the sunscreens that are the lowest and the testing results revealed that have SPF values lower then 30 SPF.the products were blurred but i’m only able to make out 4 out of the 5 sunscreens.Round Lab Birch Moisturizing Sun CreamHYGGEE - Relief Sun MoisturizerKlairs Soft Airy UV Essencedr. jart solarbiome ampouleedit: someone in the youtube comments has listed what are the sunscreens she was gonna test when she announced on instagram. the post has since been deleted. - charmzone family sun fluid - dear klairs soft airy uv essence - round lab 365 derma relief suncream - round lab birch juice moisturizing sun cream - dewytree urban shade - the beautiful factr airy milky fluid - cell fusion c laser sunscreen 100 - espoir water splash sun cream - innisfree truecare non-nano sunscreen - lanbelle natural fresh sun scream - krave beet the sun - dr. g brightening up sun+ - dr. g green mild up sun+ - dr. g green mild up sun lotion - make prem protect your skin from the sun - round a round greentea cica sun lotion - hyggee relief sun moisturizer - dr. jart solarbiome ampoule - dr. orga premium sun protection cremeedit 2: forgot to mention that she has also said that she will be posting a video in 3 months with sunscreens she recommends.edit 3: translation for the text shown on 3:19 of the video by u/dokina"There’s over 100 comments and idk if someone beat me to it, but if you’re talking about the Korean on screen after the FDA testing things(?) at 3:07, it reads “in vitro testing shows most of the 14 sunscreens are below SPF50” "this means that 14 of the 19 sunscreens are below SPF50 i think as she posted 19 sunscreens on the since deleted post on IG.

[PSA][Acne] You could be allergic to your vape juice.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
My husband has been battling horrible body acne for several years. He tried Accutane but it didn’t seem to help too much. While discussing it with friends, the wife asked how long he’d been vaping. That’s when it occurred to us his body acne flared up when he quit cigarettes. She told us her husband had the same issue and it turns out he’s allergic to Propylene Glycerol (PG). She suggested trying to switch to pure Vegetable Glycerin (VG) vape juice. After a TON of searching we found one (caution it’s much more expensive), and after 6 months my husbands acne has completely cleared up!
