[Acne] Why do I always get hyper-pigmented scars after a acne goes away?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey, took me long enough to notice but every time I let my pimples go through the natural healing process they always seem to leave a red scar behind that changes the colour of my skin. The other day I got a whitehead but I let it naturally go away with the products I use (dried up and fell off) but it still left behind a red mark on my face which I am concerned about. I also notice that others who get acne have the red discolouration of the bumps, but when they go away their skin returns back to their normal skin tone? Are there ways for me to prevent the scarring so the healing process returns back to my normal skin tone? I don’t touch my face or pick at my pimples, only when I’m washing I touch. Please help!!!

[skin concern] how do I get rid of hyperpigmentation on my bikini area?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I used to shave my bikini area daily and I shave wayyyyy less often now (maybe once every 1.5 months) and have learnt my lesson when it comes to bikini area shaving the hard way (inflammation and ingrowns) but I’m still left with hyperpigmentation. I use tret 0.1% on my face and thought I’d try using it on my bikini area every now and then to see if it could improve the hyperpigmentation. All it did always make my skin peel off like a bad sun burn.Does anyone have any advice for how to deal with hyperpigmentation in the bikini area? I’m strictly talking about the mons pubis (area above the vagina) before anyone freaks out about putting chemicals on my actual 🐱)It’s kind of in an inverted “V” shape and a little splotchy as the areas I’ve nicked with my razor are not hyperpigmented and my natural olive skin tone. Before anyone suggests laser or waxing, I have an incredibly low pain tolerance. I have a Phillips at home IPL machine that works pretty well every else, but the hyperpigmentation means it’s too dark to use in my bikini line.

[Skin Concern] Skincare, Dull-Tired Skin
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello, I’m 21 years old. I had flawless skin to begin with, really bright and minimised pores throughout my teen years, I never even had acne like my classmates had growing up. I was addicted to Skincare and now ruined my skin. It’s dry, dehydrated, dull, I have pores just below my eyes and around my nose and overall tight (in a bad way) skin. Is there anything I can do to reverse the damage? I’ve stopped applying anything for 2 months but it was 3-4 years of damage.

[product question] spray on sunscreen recs?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I use tretinoin for anti aging so I absolutely have to use sunscreen daily. Usually I cleanse, moisturize, and then apply sunscreen but I'm starting to think I'd prefer a non-oily, micro-mist sunscreen instead.I currently use holy grain product Biore aqua rich watery essence spf50, PA++++Any good recommendations for something light, non-greasy, heavy protection, and sprayable?

[Routine help] As a skincare newbie, what “order” and “wait-till-it-dries” principles should I know about?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I feel like I have a good grasp of the various products used in skincare, but not any of the classic principles of what should be applied before what, and how long something should be applied before something else. The only thing I know right now is that Vitamin C should be applied before sunscreen. But does timing/drying matter there? How about for things like eye-cream and retinol and moisturizer? Thanks for any help you can provide! This whole world feels like a giant maze at first so I really appreciate it.

[Skin concerns] Closed comedones from using moisturizer for wrong skin type
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Is that possible? My skin is pretty dry during cold months and when I use the same moisturizer (Cerave Spf 25), that I use the whole year, for summer, my skin gets a bit more oily. This year I immediately started treating it as a oily skin and I started getting more and more closed comedones. I bought an Isntree Aloe Vera Gel. So now I have two questions:1. Does dry skin gets slightly oilier in summer too (and it's still considered dry skin type)? In case that's a NO:2. Did I make a mistake by buying too lightweight/drying moisturizer for oily skin and my skin is actually oily in the summer?

[Personal] Aquaphor fixed my dry skin!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been using Curology for around two years to treat my acne, and recently my dermatologist recommended I increase from 0.009% to 0.018% tretinoin. I'd tried that before, but had to switch back to 0.009% because my skin got insanely dry. Sure enough, when I increased the tretinoin this time I started to see a ton of dryness, especially around my mouth. It was almost worse than my acne because at least I could hide the acne with makeup, but makeup just made my skin look super flakey. I tried all of my dermatologist's recommendations to help with the dryness and stopped putting my Curology formula near my mouth, etc. but nothing worked. Then the other day I was in CVS and randomly decided to buy Aquaphor Healing Ointment after reading about it here. I've only been using it for three days, applying it before my Curology formula, and it's already made such a big difference. The skin around my mouth is no longer dry at all, and other areas of my face look way better. I'd had a lot of dry skin near my nose and between my eyes, even back when I used 0.009% tretinoin, and now it's completely gone. I'm so happy that I tried Aquaphor and just wanted to share! I hope this doesn't break any rules.

[product question] sensitive skin
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Can sensitive skin products cause really dry skin? I recently switched to a sensitive skin body wash but I don’t have sensitive skin. I accidentally bought it and keep using it thinking it’s fine. Except the skin in my butt crack has become extremely dry and itchy. I’m now thinking it’s the body wash and other than buying a new body wash, what else can I do to immediately alleviate the issue? I’m super uncomfortable.

[product question] Thinking of switching from Drunk Elephant A-passioni retinol to Differin.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
My (26/F) skin is dry/sensitive but I’ve been using DE retinol for a year and it’s been good/not much bad reactions. The reason I’ve been thinking of doing the switch is because of the price point. DE is super pricey for what it is! And also heard the brand is kinda problematic…. I’m also quite afraid of switching to Differin because of the purging (I’ve seen/read on Reddit) and since my skin is generally unproblematic now, I don’t want to cause any problems for my skin. My goal for using retinol is clear skin, anti aging, etc, all that good stuff! Has anyone made this switch or have any opinions on this? Thanks!

[PSA] Don't order from Dermstore
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Okay, i ordered a product almost 2 months ago and was going to return it within the 60 day deadline return window- i have a few days left. I ordered it on July 6. ( i know it was my fault for dragging my feet. but after 3 weeks when i tried to call their phones never answered! I'd be on hold for 1 hour and then the call would end)Well, when i finallllllly got through to them yesterday they told me they changed recently their return window from 60 to 45 days!I told them #1 When i placed my order it states on their site it's 60 day return window and #2 Right NOW on their site it still says 60 days!I mean my product isn't that expensive only $40. But, i am super annoyed they are doing this and well i'll try to speak to someone another day.The funny thing is they had been having problems with their phone lines for 2 freaking months and the girl i talked to acted like she was not aware of this.So in the end i hate dermstore and will never order from them again. Like, you can't just change your return policy like that. ( Like if the new rule went into effect August 1st- they should say orders placed before August 1st can still have 60 days)I wished i would have read other people's complaints they had with dermstore- https://www.bbb.org/us/ca/el-segundo/profile/skin-care/dermstore-1216-100105717/complaints

[Misc] Did anyone watch the latest Vox Explained episode on Netflix called "Your Skin"?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Personally skincare is one of the topics I can discuss unprompted for hours on end (the reason why I’m in this sub lol) and the latest Vox episode was very very interesting to me. I love how they explained the microbiomes that live on our skin and keep our largest organ and our immune system functioning and healthy. They also gave a brief introduction of pH level and sebum, follicles, cellulite etc. of the skin, the history of soap and the predatory tactics/pseudoscience and marketing strategies employed by beauty companies. The only thing I disagreed was the guy at the end talking about the only product he uses is water…which I understand that it works for him, but the way he said it seems misleading (like you just need water! Look how great my skin is!). I wear SPF every day and my oily skin looks clogged and dull at the end of the day so I definitely need a deep cleanse and a skincare routine before bed.Interested to hear your thoughts!

[Product Question] Is there a difference between normal body wash and exfoliating body wash?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’ve been trying to get more into body care as a male and this is one of the biggest questions for me. If there is a difference between the two is it okay to use regular body wash that isn’t an exfoliant as an exfoliater? And are there any good brands anyone recommends? Mostly for getting rid of bumps, and evening out skin color etc.

[Misc] Skin queen course (Olena Beley)
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello, I don't usually post but just received an email offering me $300 off Olena Beley's 'skin queen' course. A course costing over $1k.I don't like dissing people but I really recommend against this course. This woman has no qualifications; everything she's learned, you can learn free for yourself.Sorry to be critical and negative, but I don't want to see people lose their hard earned money to this person. At best, she's overestimating her abilities and knowledge. At worst....well.Posting 2nd time as I forgot my tag in the title! Hope it's helpful.

[Acne] Paula’s Choice BHA 2% Liquid - purge or breakout?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I have been testing this product every other day for around 7-10 days. I apply a few drops and gently spread it over my t-zone and the outline of my face. I haven’t applied any to my cheeks since I was kinda afraid of purging because I struggle with acne and my cheeks are the most persistent area for acne and texture. I usually don’t get any pimples on my forehead but after using the product, a few (2-3) small pimples have surfaced. They are red and don’t usually come to a head and just go away on their own so they’re nothing I can’t handle.Could this be a breakout or am I just purging? If it’s the latter, how long would it last on average? Also, is this product an effective acne treatment? Just kinda tired since most things i’ve tried don’t seem to work (Epiduo Forte, Differin, and etc.)Thank you :))

[acne] Dermapen experience for blackheads?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi Guys,I’m lucky in that my skin is generally pretty good. The outer layer of my skin rarely suffers from spots. I do however have some backheads / sebaceous filaments on my nose which I’ve been battling with for years. I’ve tried literally hundreds of different off the shelf products but because they are under my skin - none of them work. I’ve been using paulas choice 2% bha liquid exfoliant in the mornings and evenings for 2-3 months now and whilst it’s made my skin look healthier it’s not done anything with my blackheads. I use one of a multitude of different facial washes/scrubs in the shower every morning - they all seem to help keep my ‘outer’ skin clean and healthy but nothing more.If I have a hot bath or use a facial steamer I can run a fingernail over my nose which removes some gunk and then my skin looks nice for about 1-2 days and then they are back again, so I’m clearly only just dealing with the upper layer.I’ve decided to contact some professionals in my area who have good feedback. One of them is suggesting using a dermapen which seems to be quite a new technology. It will cost £255 for 3 sessions, or £480 for 6. I wondered if anyone had any experience with this? Or suggestions for other products I could try? My concern is that again treatment might help me for a few days / weeks but then they’ll be back again.

PSA: Your scars/texture/acne is all so much less noticeable when you’re smiling. [personal]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Cross-post from r/acne scarringYears of self-hatred due to scarring, but am slowly learning acceptance and compassion.I’m not going to tell anyone here to not work on their scars (nor would I pass up any opportunity I thought would instantly fix this particularly deep scar below my cheekbone) because I know what it’s like to hate the way you look/feel utterly consumed every day by the aftermath of acne. I know what it’s like to be scared to go outside, and to wake up every morning and have the first thought be: not a bad dream, still have scars. I really do get it.But what I will say is this: from personal experience, I know we are our own worst enemies with regards to scarring (for example, I see people with objectively worse scarring than my own and I think they either look good with it or have absolutely nothing to worry about - seriously), and also (forgive me for being cringey af) they don’t look so bad when you’re smiling, which we should all try and do more. I’ve tried practising actively smiling whenever I see my scars now, and it feels so forced and fake and dumb when you start, but it genuinely helps over time. Slowly, and of course it’s never going to fulfil those irrational dreams of ‘waking up with poreless, perfect skin’ but it does help.Massive love to everyone here dealing with scars and texture and active acne, because if you’re anywhere near as cruel to yourself as I can be to myself, I know you put yourself through a special kind of hell.

I live in a tropical country, so sunscreen is definitely a must.A friend recommended that I use it as a makeup base. But my problem is the one I’m using (Innisfree intensive triple care sunscreen), though the best product by far for oily skin, leaves a mineral residue that makes my face color uneven from my neck.Any recos?

What does it mean if the area around my mouth is ALWAYS red, inflamed, and sort of hurts no matter how much I moisturize? [Skin concern]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Currently I don't use any actives. I also stopped cleansing with my face wash and only use water and tap it with paper towels now, because my skin is already dry and I feel like cleansing it has made the redness around my mouth worse. I don't think it's perioral dermatitis either because from what I've read, it comes with little pimples around the mouth and I don't have that. I only have extreme redness, stinging, inflammation and of course some pigmentation around my mouth and on my smile lines due to the constant inflamed state. I seriously don't know what else to do. It hurts so much too. I tried using actives, not using actives at all, cleansing, not cleansing, moisturizing a lot, moisturizing then locking it in with vaseline. What do I do? For the record, I also have little broken capillaries around my mouth because of how easily irritated it is.

[Product Question] Urea 5% vs 10% in a lotion (like Eucerin).. what is the difference for light moisterizing?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm looking at Eucerin lotions with either 5% or 10% urea. What is the difference between those? I mainly want a light lotion that i can also use on my hands to moisterize a bit without being being sticky. Is it true that 10% urea will peel off skin (which doesn't sound good for moisterizing) and that maybe with only 5% this won't happen? Confused about that.

[Routine Help] AHA+BHA and retinol
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi! Is it possible to add AHA+BHA (specifically Good Molecules Overnight Exfoliate) and a retinol into my routine? I know these can conflict, so do I need to just add a day of down time between them? Or is this impossible? Thanks in advance!

[Sun Care] I always heard that mixing sunscreen with anything will reduce most of the SPF. But then I found that there are color pigments for sunscreen from La Roche (apparently available only in Brasil) and I'm really confused. Could sunscreen actually be mixed with dye w/o losing its protection?

[Misc] Watery eyes from sunscreen even if I avoid eye area
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Does anyone else struggle with this and know a sunscreen that doesn't do this? I guess I'm sensitive to something in it. I don't know. It even happened with an all mineral sunscreen... I've tried so many. The watery/irritated eye sensation never goes away so I end up having to wash it off.Since I'm supposed to share my skincare routine is Aveeno calm and restore cleanser and Cerave PM. Whenever I shower, usually at night. Then in morning I don't use anything (unless I'm trying another sunscreen that ends up not working for me lol then my routine is sunscreen)

[Routine Help] Nasolabial/Marionette Lines From Differin?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone. For reference, I'm a teenager who has been using Differin gel to treat my acne for several years (since the age of ten, when it was recommended to me by my family physician). I might just be paranoid, but during the past year or two, I've noticed a significant increase in the depth of my smile lines. I look much older than I am, and I'm quite conscious of it.For reference, I apply about half the recommended amount of Differin twice a day (1/2 a pea size, morning and night) as I've always done. If I only use the gel at night, I tend to break out. I only started wearing sunscreen eight months ago. When I recently visited a dermatologist, she didn't seem to take issue with my current routine or past skincare history.Has anyone else experienced this, and is there anything I can do to reverse it?Thank you.

my skin hates mostly all products I have used. any recommendations for super intolerant skin? [skin concerns]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have tried loads of moisturisers aimed at sensitive and dry skin but my skin hates them. My skin gets very hot, red, dry and itchy when applying these products. I have seen vanicream recommended a lot for intolerant skin but my skin hates it.I’ve tried cerave, first aid beauty, cetaphil, la roche, vaseline and loads more. Oils don’t hydrate my skin either. The only moisturiser that even comes close to working is this one Bulldog Original Moisturiser for Men 100ml https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00822YOIM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_3ZQVZXGY0WC5DJEE8JQC?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 I think it’s because this moisturiser has some soothing properties, unfortunately sometimes it’s just not hydrating enough.I also use Sudocrem Antiseptic Healing Cream 125 g https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000ZLQJHC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_2G3NRCVECCDX49S1XJ3K it used to hydrate my skin and also calm down my acne a lot but it’s becoming less effective recently at doing both.I don’t really have a consistent specific routine right now as i’m constantly bouncing between different moisturisers, cleansers and suncreams trying to find ones my skin can tolerate. My skin is dry, sensitive, very acne prone and i think i have rosacea but products aimed at rosacea don’t work for me either.

[Personal] This sounds weird, but I feel like I don’t know what my skin looks like anymkre
Beauty Tips For Body Care
(16F) I just can’t tell if I like my skin or hate it.It’s clear for the most part, but I’ve become so obsessed with my skin that i notice every single flaw.Every single pimple I get makes me panic and scare that my routine isn’t working. My cheeks are often bumpy and red (I used to suspect I had rosacea, and I am still wondering if maybe I do) and it’s my biggest insecurity. I have the faint smile lines that you can see, and I know that everyone has them, I’ve even seen babies with them, but for some reason they make me feel so insecure.I also have faint acne scars i’m dealing with. I think my skin scars pretty easily so even though i don’t get bad acne, whenever i get a pimple it leaves a dark spot and it’s so frustrating.I only ever notice the flaws in my skin and it just makes me more and more obsessed. I think I’m a very insecure person and it’s manifesting as a possibly unhealthy obsession with skincare😅But because people say that so many of the photos we see online are a result of good lighting, makeup, and filters, I just can’t tell what is supposed to be clear skin anymore.

[personal] TONS of unused products
Beauty Tips For Body Care
so i know this may be a weird post but i wasn’t sure where else to post it. this year has been a rollercoaster both mentally/emotionally and physically. a few months ago i had a bad breakout of impetigo on my face and body, and since then i’ve been experiencing a plethora of problems including rosacea, TSW, malassezia, and even the rona. on top of that, my roommate didn’t pay rent for months and then bailed on me so i’m in a horrible situation.i have an awful habit of bulk buying, which i know is the total opposite of what you should do with skincare products. but while i was recovering from all this, i noticed how much money i was dumping into new products and hospital bills and had the very stupid idea of bulk buying my favorite skin care products before i ran out of money. RIGHT after they arrived, i realized they were no longer compatible with my fragile, damaged skin.now i can’t use most of those products, and i’ve had to replace my entire skin + makeup routine with new products. this may be a long shot, but if anyone would like to message me and see what products i have (unopened of course) i could really use the extra cash and i would sell everything for dirt cheap. i have stuff like the cosrx aloe sunscreen and canmake mermaid skin gel sunscreen, some face washes, moisturizers and toners, a bunch of great makeup etc. thanks and sorry for this entire post lol

[Acne] has anybody else encountered this issue with cerave products?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
hi therei started using a 10% niacinamide+zinc serum as well as the cerave hydrating cleanser and moisturising lotion yesterday. since then i’ve gotten a couple of spots in areas i regularly get spots in and i’m wondering why this is. i don’t have any spots on my cheeks or nose and they feel completely moisturised and healthy from these products, but my forehead and chin feels quite oily and uncomfortable and this is where my spots are. i know this isn’t purging because there are no active ahas/bhas or retinoids in the products im using to cause it, but it’s behaving in the way purging would. i have combination skin type and my forehead and chin is on the oilier side if this helps in any way.i’d like to know if my concerns about these products causing breakouts on my skin is valid and if so, what products would you recommend i swap to? i’d prefer them to be on the cheaper side if possible

Started my retinoid journey, need some advice! [routine help]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey addicts,After taking the advice of this sub and reading the wiki, I’m two weeks in to using The Ordinary’s 2% emulsion. I’ve been applying at night Monday/Thursday. So far my skin feels a bit less oily, and I’ve had some small breakouts that I hope are purging. Also a little dry skin under my eyebrow and lip that moisturizer has taken care of. Otherwise no noticeable difference (which I know not to expect so soon) and no irritation/side effects. So my first question is: when/how will I know that I’m ready to increase the frequency of application? The product instructions say apply each night but I’m worried about irritation, so want to take it slow-ish. But also I’m ready for results!Next question: I stopped using Glossier’s Solution before starting because it contains acids that could be irritating combined with a retinoid. But I miss it! It gave me such a nice clean slate for makeup application, and kept sebaceous filaments less visible. I felt like it removed that final layer of gunk that cleanser can leave behind. Is there some sort of toner or other product that would be okay in combo with a retinoid that achieves the same effect? Or could I go back to Solution if I space it out correctly from retinoid days?

I recently got a couple products from the Bad Habit skincare line (the one made by Emma Chamberlain) as I had seen it around a lot I liked how they looked.I bought the matcha and mint cleanser as I know matcha is meant to be good for skin and I needed a new cleanser and the hemp oil.So here’s the warning: ⚠️DO NOT BUY THAT CLEANSER⚠️I have oily skin so usually I’m not too sensitive with products but that cleanser burned my skin. I had such a bad reaction I thought I was having an allergic reaction to my partner’s cat (I have a cat allergy but take meds for it) until I had the same reaction at home the following days. My whole face was red, blotchy and had little bumps covering my entire face and my eyes burned and that lasted all day. That being said the hemp oil seems to be fine and has made my skin feel soft.EDIT: I cut the cleanser out of my routine and still had a reaction so I have to assume it’s from the oil as well as both have fragrance and it’s the only new part of my routine. Most products from this line are a no-go cause they’re packed full of fragrances and essential oils (not great for skin)

[Skin concerns] Theory: DHT from lack of blood flow to the face causes the facial fat pads to lose fat/volume
Beauty Tips For Body Care
There’s two fat pads in the faceThe inner (deep fat pad)Outter (superficial fat pad)In the mid-late 20s we lose both but you lose the inner 40% more. When this inner fat pad gets lost the outter fat pad drops down and sags, creating the sagging faceDHT burns fat, and it’s theorized that DHT burns facial fatNotice how these 19 year olds who diet down hard that have 5% body fat, yet still have inner fat pads:https://www.instagram.com/p/COicPw5JFgz/My point as we age blood flow to the scalp reduces(probably from gravity) which leads to DHT accumulation which in turns shreds the fat on your scalp and also kills the hair (balding for men)So if blood flow to the scalp is reduced with age then blood flow to your cheeks and upper face is probably also reduced and that leads DHT accumulation which leads to the burning of the facial fat pads of the upper face.So maybe we can combat this with eating a bunch of carbs and fats and then massaging your cheekbones/cheeks to influence fat storage to your upper face? Or a 5ar inhibitor?Bonus Pics to prove my point:Notice how 99.9999% of balding men also have 0 fat pads.https://ibb.co/rfNm90thttps://ibb.co/t4FX32TAlso notice how Asians keep there fat pads well into there 40s? Well Asians also have the lowest amount of DHT compared to every race

After three microneedling sessions, my skin started to act badly to my usual skincare. [Skin Concerns]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
After the last session, I waited a month to apply again a prep my derm gave me (salicylic acid, vitamin C, alcohol, I don't know the fourth ingredient because he has bad writing) only to have an allergic reaction. My face was full of red patches, tiny bumps, and it burned me. At first, I thought that my moisture barrier was broken but I put skinoren( it used to itch) and alcohol(sorry I was desperate) and it did nothing bad. What do you think? Should I wait a little longer for my skin to heal? Will I be able to use the prep again?I have to mention that this prep is my holy grail. It dried my acne instantly and riding me of spots. I don't know what else can be as effective as this.

[Product Question] Any suggestions for an affordable oil cleanser that emulsifies well?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’m looking for some recommendations for a good oil cleanser that’s a relatively thin consistency and emulsifies with water. Ideally it would be fragrance free, but I can overlook one or two fragrant ingredients.I’ve been using the Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Oil and have really liked it, but it’s a little too expensive for me. I’ve tried some other cleansing oils, but they’re either super thick or they don’t emulsify well when I add water. The only one I’ve tried that I kind of like is the Inkey List Oat Cleansing balm; however I went through it so fast that it would cost more than the Clinique cleanser in the long run. If anyone has any recommendations I would appreciate it!!!

[Misc] Is Lush still bad?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I really loved their bath bombs but stopped buying them after it came out a few years ago that there were a lot of issues with workers being mistreated. Has there been any improvement/acknowledgement since then, and if not, do you guys have any recommendations for more ethical places with comparable quality bath bombs that leave you feeling soft and moisturized? I've tried several and found them all varying levels of 'meh'. Nothing so far has replicated the experience I got with the Lush ones, and I'm wondering if it's just my imagination or anyone else has had this problem.

[Sun Care] Got upf 50+ clothing but I can see my fingers through it when I hold it up to the light?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
My understanding is that normal clothing provides insufficient protection from the sun because of small holes in the weaving, which lets in uv rays.I recently bought a upf hoodie from Baleaf thinking that the material would be tightly woven to prevent any light from penetrating to skin, but when I held the thing up to the sunlight I could clearly see the outline of my fingers. I tested one of my regular cotton shirts and was surprised to see there wasnt much of a difference between the two.Is there something I'm missing here?

[Sun Care] Sunscreen for sensitive/acne prone skin?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi! I have such sensitive skin in general, but anything with scents or basically any sunscreen breaks me out into red itchy bumps. Help a girl out with skincare protection, anyone with super super sensitive, acne prone skin found any good sunscreen brands? Tried elta md, jack black, supergoop, and some drug store brands to no avail!

[Misc] [Product Question] Which cleanser is better: La Roche-Posay Toleriane Hydrating Cleanser or Aveeno Calm & Restore Oat Cleanser?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been looking for a good, non-stripping cleanser that won't break me out and debating between the trying out either the Aveeno Calm & Restore Oat Cleanser or the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Hydrating cleanser. I have combination (but leaning towards dry), and have tried the blue "purifying" LRP Toleriane cleanser, which I liked (skin felt clean after, didn't break me out) but found to be a bit too drying for my skin. Just wondering if anyone else has tried both/either one and has any suggestions/recommendations/etc? TYIA :)

[Routine help] What is going on with my skin? Is it time for accutane?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
My skin seems to break out like this every week, and red marks tend to stay for weeks. I’m not sure what to do anymore because I’ve tried many different products within years. My current routine:AM: Wash with sulfo lo cleansing barCerave daily moisturizing lotionPM: Wash with sulfo lo cleansing barCerave daily moisturizing lotionFollowed by Tretinoin 0.05%I know it’s not some crazy routine like others have, but i don’t know much and i just listen to my dermatologist. Around the mouth area is definitely effected the most. Maybe it has to do w/ shaving but I use pretty good products and am careful.Picture

[Skin Concerns] Adapalene (Differin) after 7 Weeks
Beauty Tips For Body Care
(18m) Ive been using adapalene since July 1. I definitely noticed a purge...but I cannot tell if the results I want are here or not. I feel like not only are there more tiny zits, but my face is a bit more red, and Im not sure about using lotion since it might make my acne worse.By the way. Ive been on doxycycline since October (plan on weaning off in a week from now), sodium sulfacetamide since October (used it once a day, until July when i began using it twice a day), and adapalene, which Ive been using since July 1.EDIT: Oh btw, i was supposed to start using the adapalene in October but only began using it last July because I finally started to take my acne seriously.Week7Today TodayCloseup Week2 Pre-Adapalene

[skin concern] what is going on with my skin?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been struggling with deep, persistent pimples that eventually come to a head but will last for weeks. I've had some pop up near my eyebrows but mostly the problem area is on my chin. Could it be hormonal acne? I stopped taking BC pills back in April. There's maybe 1 week of any given month where my skin is somewhat clear, aka spots mostly healed and no new formations. Am I using too many products? Should I be adding in a benzoyl peroxide cleanser at night? I've been playing around with different products (stopped using TO Niacinamide about 1.5 months ago since I thought it was breaking me out) and thought I had gotten to a good place with my current routine. But every time I think my skin is starting to heal, new pimples form that are worse than the last ones.I've been using the Double Shark and Curel for about 2 weeks now. Could this be purging? Everything else I've been using for 6+ months. I also bought LRP Cicaplast Baume B5 to put on my acne spots out of desperation to get them to heal faster but just used it for the first time last night. I'm not really open to getting prescriptions for acne treatment like Tret since since I could get pregnant soon.Morning:Wash with waterDouble Shark Sauce (10% Niacinamide)Paula's Choice Azelaic AcidSkin Aqua UV Moisture Gel SPF 50Night:Vanicream Gentle CleanserDifferinCurel Intensive Moisture Cream100% Pure Retinol PM Eye CreamI have Eminence Organics Acne Advanced Clarifying Masque and Proactive emergency blemish relief as spot treatments but neither seem to help much.https://imgur.com/a/cHRsGAV

[Product Question] I don't like my exfoliator. Here is my current routine
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Current RoutineI am using Ordinary at the moment as a serum for my hands and face. The one on the left for the hands and the right for my face. After that I put on the moisture. I am quite satisfied with my gel cream and serum. However, the exfoliator has a bit of sand in there which I dislike. A friend of mine suggested to use the Foreo Luna and I want to give that a try but which cream should I use? Thanks a lot. You are awesome.Yeah, I am male around 40 with mixed skin.

[Routine Help] Do you apply moisturizer AND sunscreen in the morning?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’ve pretty much always applied both because I thought it was needed, but after watching a few videos by Dr. Dray on YT, it seems like she recommends only applying sunscreen in the AM. She says she doesn’t wash her face in the AM, but I do wash with only water just to wake myself up.I tried only applying sunscreen today and I noticed it set a lot nicer than it usually would. So, what I’m tryna get at - is moisturizer really necessary in the mornings?

[skin concern] should I use the ordinary aha bha on my legs to help with ingrown hairs?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
This has been an insecure of mine for a while. My legs are bumpy and covered in dark spots with hair stuck underneath the skin. I exfoliate with Korean Italy towel every other day and then lather myself in Vaseline aloe soothe lotion afterwards. I’ve tried tend skin and paula’s choice bha body lotion in the past and it helped with the bumps but the hair and discoloration persists. I’ve also tried body brushing but would often forget. I feel like chemical exfoliant is the only way to get really deep into the skin to get the hair out so I’m thinking of trying TO AHA BHA bc it’s so strong. I’m open to any other methods and products as well!

[Skin Concern] Anti-aging and plump, dewy skin without retinol-is it possible?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello! I am a huge skincare fan, and I’m in a place where I’m happy with my skin, but I’d like to work on preventing skin aging. I know retinoids are the gold standard, but my skin just cannot tolerate them! Every person I see with plump, dewy skin who have prevented and reversed skin aging swear by retinol, and I’m worried that I won’t be able to achieve the same thing. Is it possible to have that same powerful level of anti-aging with another active? Thank you!

[Sun Care] How can people afford all these sunscreens
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Ok so I guess this is kind of a 2 in 1 question sorry.I was looking into buying new sunscreen. I've been using cosrx aloe sp50 sunscreen for a few years now. But since I work in tech I've been thinking maybe I look for some blue light protection. I dislike the idea of wearing foundation/tinted spf btw.So I first found Eucerin photoaging control. I liked it, the only problem is it is really oily on my skin and sits on all my skin crevices and makes me look... ugly. but the texture and hydration were really nice :/cosrx aloe spf50 was costing me like £9 for each tube on yesstyleEucerin was costing me £15 for each oneI have to reapply my spf throughout the day not only because you should, but also because I'm muslim. so every time i go to pray, i need to wash my face(and hands and other parts etc)So I'm applying my spf three times during the dayNow I'm looking at other blue light spf50 sunscreens and the recommendations I'm coming across are so expensive. like Murad's city skin. seems pretty nice but it's £60. I can't drop that much money a month ;_; cos I have other skincare to buy also. Even Elta MD is £33. £33 for something that will last just under a month? Is that practical for you guys? Is everyone just rich?I just don't know how people can afford it. Are they not reapplying their spf throughout the day? Are there cheaper options that are also pretty decent? please let me know

[product question] Why does this sunscreen make all previous product layers play nice?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Coxir - Ceramide Daily UV Sun blockSPF 50+, PA+++, Ceramide NP, Hyaluronic Acid, AloeVeraFor months I have been trying to find a combination of skincare products that achieve my goals without making me oily in the afternoon, or look so shiny. Literally, got the spreadsheets out to try to figure out patterns of hits and misses. All my skincare product investigations are usually done with minimal products, and no suncreen (so i know what product is doing what)But weirdly when I apply a small amount of this sunscreen by Coxir, it mattifies, removing any shine from the previous products used, prevents me from getting a bit of oil later in the day, and makes my skin soft to the touch and natural looking. Lasting all day. No matter what I chuck under it (pretty much)It's a mineral sunscreen. I then did a test, my other (chemical) sunscreens don't have the same effect at all. Not sure if it's a mineral sunscreen thing? If so why?Not really sure what's going on with this Coxir. I thought it might be indicating my moisturisers haven't been occlusive enough, but I've tried a lot of moisturisers including heavier ones. Maybe I need a super dense paste like moisturiser? I never wake up with oil/shine/grease, and have good skin from the nightime moisturiser, but in the daytime it's always a bit of a mixed result.Any idea as to what is going on? thank you

[Routine Help] what to do when nothing is working?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
about december last year i’m pretty sure i broke my moisture barrier, but it took me a long eight months to finally realise that fact and stop using actives. ever since (so about 6-8 weeks i think?) i’ve only been using a cleanser and a moisturizer, that previously hasn’t caused breakouts. but my skin is still bad. i have a ton of ccs on my forehead and i keep getting pimples on my cheeks/chin. i’m at a point where i literally don’t know what to do now, given that what initially caused this was a broken moisture barrier and giving it time to heal has done very little. it makes me unsure of whether it's actually healed or not, and if i can use actives again. my diet is basically the same so i don’t think it’s that either.at this point, what else can i do to help my skin that prior to dec 2020 was really clear? i just find it strange that 6-8weeks of a routine that prior to dec 2020 gave me really clear skin is now still giving me breakouts, and i just want some help on how to navigate this. should i change my moisturizer/cleanser/sunscreen or introduce actives again? or continue as i'm doing to see if it gets better?

[Product Question] micellar water making my skin sting like crazy
Beauty Tips For Body Care
ok since about 2 am ive been trying to remove my makeup with micellar water and because of how much it stings i can’t really remove much makeup without taking a break every few seconds and now it is a little past 4 am. i haven’t used makeup or micellar water for about like 2 months until now so maybe my skin just isn’t used to it anymore but idk. but also even when my skin was used to makeup everyday the micellar water still stung but definitely not to this degree. i don’t know what to do because i still have makeup to remove but this is stinging like crazy. also im on accutane if that makes a difference but i was also on accutane 2 months ago when my skin didn’t react this way to micrllar water so idk.

[Routine Help] How long do I need to wait until starting a new active?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi there! This might be a silly question but I would love some guidance!I’ve been planning to add some actives into my skincare routine. The main two I was keen on doing first were vitamin c for the antioxidants and the glow, and hydroquinone to try and address some stubborn dark spots that don’t want to go away.I ordered Melano CC as my vitamin c treatment couple of weeks ago but it wasn’t due to arrive for another week or two, so I bought the Plunkett’s Superfade Face Cream (2% hydroquinone) while I was at the pharmacy, thinking I’d start it while I waited for my vitamin C. But guess what arrived in the post today…Anyway, my dilemma now- how bad would it be to start them both at the same time? I’m planning on using the Melano CC in the morning and the hydroquinone at night as a spot treatment. I would normally wait but I’m so excited to use them both and it’s overriding the cautious part of my brain!!!!!

Step 2: Ask for helpTo give you the best advice possible, our users need relevant information about your skin and skincare. With your request for help please include: The issue(s) you need help with. It's better for people to understand why something is a poor choice, instead of just being told that it is one!Once a year, we have a big thank you post for everyone who has helped out in the DHT where we give out nifty flairs & gold to exceptionally informative and kind users. Check out our list of ScA Helpers and our most recent thank you post!Whether it be in-depth responses that deserve to be their own guides, thoughtful product recommendations, or simply pointing someone in the right direction, we appreciate all the time and effort you've made to help others!Previous ThreadsThis thread is posted every day at 12:00am ET.

[skin concern] I’ve been having these spots for a few months now and it doesn’t seem to fade away. I don’t want to use a lot of products because I easily breakout. What can I do to get rid of these without too much skincare?

[Skin Concern] I am extremely insecure about my eye circles. It really effects my quality of life and I think of them every day every time I see a mirror or my reflection. It really shatters my confidence. Any advice for how to reduce their appearance? And suggestions for why I might have them?
