[Misc] Veet + Salicylic Acid worked surprisingly well on my bikini area, maybe this will help someone else too

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I always shave my bikini area and usually have no problem with that, in large part due to advice I read from a stripper on reddit. However many years ago I think I shaved wrong or something and ended up with a line of dark marks/ingrown hairs at the crease of my leg.Had put benzoyl peroxide on it for a while and nothing happened. A while ago I decided to try Veet again after nightmares with it as a kid, and found that while its too cumbersome to use for my whole legs for example, its great for the bikini area, even if it requires a few touch ups with a razor too.The most recent time I used vent, and then instead of BP applied ]CVS Health Advanced Acne Spot Treatment aka Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment. This is probably overkill but I've seen some type of acne medication just help after shaving in that are and what do you know - that line of dark marks that has been there for literally years is basically gone now.My theory is that the Vent got rid of the ingrown hair more effectively than shaving would have, and the Salicylic acid helped as it normally would. Worth a try if you're facing similar issues.

[acne] Think I cracked the code for my oily, hormonal/trying to conceive, very acne-prone, sensitive/reactive skin.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have struggled with incredibly temperamental skin since middle school. I am now 34. Wanting to share my story and see what you think, and maybe it helps someone out there.I’ve had spurts where acne was under control. But when I started trying to conceive/had 3 miscarriages (a story for another sub), so had to stop using certain ingredients… my skin has been in a complete tailspin for over a year.It became increasingly sensitive to acids and vitamin C, so it felt like I couldn’t DO anything. But when I pared down my routine to the most simple ever, it somehow got worse. Not to mention I am pale, and every pimple leaves behind a very dark red stain for months. Not to mention my pimples (and lingering marks) are often huge - we’re talking papules and cysts that take forever to heal.I finally hit my stride after a ton of research, experimentation, and a televisit with my dermatologist. A recovering product junkie, I have been craving a consistent, semi-affordable routine that doesn’t break me out and is pregnancy safe. And think I landed it…AM 1. Cleanser - La Roche Posay Toleriane Foaming. 2. AOX - Jordan Samuel Siero Antiossidante. 3. Eye cream - Revisions DEJ eye (the splurge of this routine). 4. Sunscreen - Avene Solaire UV mineral tinted/white mix.PM 1. Micellar - Bioderma on cotton, massage, rinse off.2. Cleanser - LRP Toleriane Foaming again. 3. Acne/Stain Treatment - Finnacea prescription Azalaic acid foam 15% / Sub full mask 2x week - Peter Thomas Roth Sulfur.4. Barrier Serum - Aveeno Triple Oat or Peach & Lily Glass Skin (currently comparing these; neither breaks me out). 5. Moisturizer - Aveeno Oat Gel. 6. Eye cream - Revisions DEJ eye again. 7. Neck - use up rejected face moisturizers. 8. Lip balm - Glossier balm dot com. 10. Hydrocolloid - Star Face, only on open leakers.I think that focusing more on moisturizing and calming has been the biggest help. My inflammation seems tamed, my skin is less itchy and pores are shrinking. Oil production is more balanced and marks are slowlyyyy fading. I accept my skin will never be flawless after all it’s been though lol. But it’s getting decent now!

[Miscellaneous] Anyone else think Glow Recipe and other brands need to stop dying their glass bottles in cutesy colors? It's an unnecessary step backward for sustainability IMO.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I was sorting my recycling today between stuff that can be recycled through my local program and stuff that doesn't fulfill the local requirements and that I can send instead to Terracycle so that it won't all get thrown in the trash.I have two empties by Glow Recipe: their watermelon toner and their plum serum, both of which come in dyed bottles. The toner bottle is dyed pink and the plum serum is a magenta-ish color. My city only accepts glass bottles that are green, brown, or just colorless. All other colors get thrown in the trash. This is the norm for a whole lot of places, because clear/green/brown glass for whatever reason are the colors that can most effectively be converted back into raw material and reused. Sometimes blue can also work. Other dyes seem to get in the way of allowing glass to be repurposed. At first I thought it was no biggie because I know Glow Recipe is an official partner of Terracycle. But when I went to confirm, I was surprised to see that Terracycle only mentions agreeing to recycle the brand's "plastic and metal products." In Glow Recipe's recycling guide where they break down which parts to send to Terracycle for each product, ALL the glass components are instructed to be recycled "at home."This is kinda vague, because their guide encourages people to upcycle their "shelfie-worthy" bottles "which are designed to be repurposed." So when they say to "recycle at home" are they telling people to upcycle the glass parts or are they telling people to send their glass bottles off to their local programs? For me, the second isn't possible. But if they're telling people to upcycle, this suggests to me that their glass isn't recyclable even by Terracycle's standards.I contacted both Glow Recipe and Terracycle to ask if their glass products are recyclable through that program. The conversation with Glow Recipe was convoluted and left me more confused than when I started. I'm still waiting on a response from Terracycle.Anyway, even if the Terracycle program DOES accept Glow Recipe's glass bottles, I think this new pattern of Glow Recipe packaging their products in dyed bottles is bad for the simple reason that most people probably don't even know Terracycle exists. Most people who recycle are going to send these dyed bottles to their local programs, many of which will throw them straight in the trash because of the dyes. And even if people "upcycle," how realistic is that in the long run, especially for people who are loyal to their products and repurchase frequently. Sure, I can upcycle this toner bottle to hold one of my plants, but my house is going to look like a landfill if I keep repurchasing it and trying to "upcycle." And there's only a certain amount of times that I'll be able to convince someone else to take the bottles as decoration. Most of Glow Recipe's earlier products came in clear glass packaging, but lately I've noticed that the bottles themselves are dyed. They'll probably say it's to protect the ingredients from the light, but I think it's most likely aesthetically-driven and that they just think their products look prettier on the shelf if the color doesn't go away as they gradually empty. They can just instruct people to keep products in shelves out of light if they're that concerned about light. The funniest thing to me about looking through Glow Recipe's recycling guide was seeing that damn near EVERY single plastic component in their products can be recycled through Terracycle, whereas it's unclear with their glass products. It just makes me laugh because the brand gets a ton of praise for using glass instead of plastic for a bunch of their products because people have blindly bought into the idea that glass is ALWAYS the better option.

[Anti-Aging] I smile reeeeal big

Beauty Tips For Body Care
...and it scrunches my future crows feet. Throughout the day I'm smiling enjoying life, and I get home and see that I've got baby wrinkles. I'm in my early 20s!!! I feel like my youth was stolen by my anxiety/depression and seeing evidence of progressing in age is depressing. I still have anxiety but I've worked on it more and have been considering a small amount of botox. I've never liked how much my eyes scrunch up when I smile, even when I was a young teen. How much is expected for baby botox so I can budget? I know it's a high maintenance thing but I'd rather spend $$ on a proven solution than buying and trying several products every month. It might honestly be cheaper in the long run.My routine:AMCetaphil gentle cleanserTO Argariline -new, 2 weeksTO buffet -new, 2 weeksTO HA -new, 3 weeksTO natural moisturizing factors+HAElta MD sunscreen 40spf broad spectrumPMCetaphil gentle cleanser or squalane cleanser if makeupEvery other day- tret 0.025% (not suuuuper consistent)If not tret then the above routine minus spf

[skin concerns] For anyone who cut out dairy—did you have any symptoms of intolerance, or was acne your only symptom?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’m trying to cut dairy out of my diet as much as possible because for some reason I’m breaking out like I was before I got on the pill. It’s like someone tampered with my birth control and now it’s not working. My acne is that bad. I was able to eat whatever I wanted for years and have maybe only 1-2 zits on my face at a time. Now I have 10+ suddenly. But getting to the point, I have no idea if I’m doing the right thing by cutting dairy. I never had any symptoms of an intolerance or allergies to dairy. I feel just fine (even good, when I eat lots of dairy). But I have acne. So, for anyone who cut out dairy and saw positive results—did you experience any of the usual symptoms of a dairy intolerance or allergy? Or was acne your only symptom? I’m just wondering if there’s a connection between dairy symptoms and acne or not.

I took it for a couple weeks, had absolutely no symptoms, and it helped my face a bit. I have 2.5 more months to go.You’re supposed to take it with a lot of water, and not lay down after taking it. You should also take a probiotic as well at an opposite time (ex. Doxy in AM & probiotic in PM)I was fine and symptomless so I kinda stopped being so aware of those things. Then boom, tonight I’m struck with THE WORST HEARTBURN EVER! Well, I’ve quite literally never had heartburn before, but it feels horrible. [Skin Concerns] Help! Getting married with a cluster of white heads!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Background: I used to have pretty bad acne and acne staining. It's gotten much better thanks to tretinoin and consistent routines. But I'm getting married on Friday, so of course I have a cluster of white heads on my chin. A few weeks ago, I had a similar cluster on the other side of my chin, but they went away right after I put a COSRX master patch set on them. This new cluster is NOT going away. I've washed my pillow cases, been changing my masks, using the COSRX patches, and continued with my usually solid skin care routine. But this cluster has been here for a week now and is not getting better. In fact, I see multiple little white heads on it. Should I stop putting patches on and hope it calms down?Acne cluster photos.Any advice would be great! In case you need it, here's my skincare routine: - cerave facial cleanser (AM & PM) - TO azelaic acid (AM) - TO hyaluronic acid 2% (AM & PM) - cerave pm facial moisturizing lotion (AM & PM) - TO rose hip seed oil mixed with moisturizer (AM & PM) - La roche-posay 60 SPF anthelios (AM) - Tretinoin 0.05%(every other PM)

[Acne] So I live in an area where the water is slightly hard water, but I’m visiting somewhere where they have soft water and I’m breaking out like crazy. Is this normal? (I hardly ever get acne)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I hardly ever get acne—I know, I’m one of the lucky ones. I get one pimple maybe once every few months. But since I’ve been at a place that has soft water (I know this because there’s a water softener in the basement), I’ve been breaking out like crazy. Is this normal?/to be expected?I just question this because I’ve read that soft water actually decreases the chances of you breaking out and that it’s hard water that tends to make you break out.I’m assuming maybe my body has just become accustomed to hard water, that when I use this soft water, my skin is kinda like ‘in-shock’ & has become susceptible to breaking out.Anyone have similar experience?Any advice on what I should do?I don’t use any face products ever, not even makeup. So it’s not like it the product I’m using is affecting it either.

(the only two things i use now) no luck. it actually feels worse right after i cleanse and apply moisturizer. no matter what i change it doesn’t go away. i have no idea what’s wrong with my skin. any thoughts?

This feels like a silly question, but I recently started dating someone who has some scruffy facial hair, and the skin on my chin is so messed up. Kissing him makes my chin super raw, and I end up with whiteheads and really red irritated skin for days. I've been moisturizing the area multiple times a day, but it is only moderately helpful. He can't grow his beard out more because of his job. And it's not related to beard products or anything, it's just the friction. How have others dealt with this? Is there any way to avoid it?

[anti-aging] advice for tired skin?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have had a very stressful few months, to put it lightly. Looking at photos of myself from earlier in the year and now is shocking. I look like I’ve aged 10 years and I’m only 29 and have always looked young for my age too. This is incredibly upsetting.Main concerns are: my face just looks thin and sunken and pale. Dark circles under my eyes. Wrinkles around my eyes when I smile look much more visible. My current night routine is: cleanse (sometimes exfoliate before I cleanse). Then micellar water, toner, niamacide on any blemishes, caffeine under the eyes and anti-ageing face cream.I don’t really have a morning routine besides wash and moisturise because I’m usually running late.Any suggestions would be appreciated.

[Skin Concerns] Trouble with large nose pores help with routine/products

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey all, I'll start with some background. I'm a 24M and have had a pretty basic skincare routine the past couple of years. Basically I cleanse/moisturize twice a day with CeraVe products (Foaming Cleanser, Moisturizing Cream). I've played around with BHA's in the past (Paula's Choice), and I remember not really seeing any results so I stopped.. but I'm willing to try again. I think my skin is considered combo, if I weren't to use any products then I'd be on the oily side, but the foaming cleanser can dry it out so I'm dependent on moisturizing. My main concern is the pores on my nose. Sebaceous filaments I think they're called, they're just gigantic and gross. The rest of my skin aint too good either, like my forehead. I'll attach pictures.I just get overwhelmed when looking online at what products to buy and whatnot. I was just hoping some lovely person can just tell me what to do and what to buy 😂 I would love to just be able to buy all my products from like Target or something, but I know that's not always doable. Basically I would love something simple but effective. I don't need my skin to be perfect, but I just feel like it's REALLY bad right now. Drives me nuts that most of my buddies just wash their face with water every once in a while and yet they have better skin than me. 😂Any and all input is deeply appreciated, thanks all.My nose :(Forehead and stuff

[Routine Help] Can you help me optimize my routine to help with PIH and acne scarring?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi all! I'm a 21-year-old African-American male, and I've been a lurker in the subreddit for a while now. Kudos to this community- you all saved my skin, but the quest continues...I have a crazy amount of dark marks and scarring from teenage acne and scarring from breakouts. My scarring is concentrated around my T-zone, and I've been described as being 'brown-skin', and yet my skin scars so easily. Even between purging cycles and breakouts, the scars alone are affecting my confidence.I was hoping that I could post my current routine, and the ScA community could help a lost soul out. I would appreciate any advice/recs/suggestions.Thanks in advance!*******ROUTINE*******AM:CleansePaula's Choice: CLEAR Pore Normalizing Cleanser 0.5% BP (Or CeraVe foaming, depending on my skin is feeling)Tone/ExfoliateThayer's: Witch Hazel TonerPaula's Choice: CLEAR Anti-Redness Exfoliating Solution 2% SATreat/MoisturizePaula's Choice: CLEAR 2.5% BP Blemish TreatmentCeraVe: AM Moisturizer w/ SPF 30PM:CleansePaula's Choice: CLEAR Pore Normalizing Cleanser 0.5% BPTone/ExfoliateDermalogica: Daily MicrofoliantThayer's: Witch Hazel TonerPaula's Choice: CLEAR Anti-Redness Exfoliating Solution 2% SATreat/MoisturizeThe Ordinary: Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% TreatmentPaula's Choice: CLEAR 2.5% BP Blemish TreatmentCeraVe: Daily MoisturizerI'm frustrated because this routine has been costly, and my results have not equaled the value of what I put in. [skin concerns] Help! Over-exfoliated skin, how to heal? Everything and *anything* I apply burns. How long to heal when laying off of actives? Product recommendations to save my poor skin?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi! Long time lurker, first time poster, turning to you for advice.Recently started using an OTC retinol product (Paula’s choice 1% clinical retinol) to prevent ageing (25yrs old) and because I’ve heard nice things about retinol products. I’m in a country where tretinoin is not commonly prescribed except in cases of severe acne, and slowly eased into the PC 1% retinol over a couple months building a tolerance. It was great, my skin had never looked healthier and brighter. My skin has never reacted to anything before and I’ve used actives and acids regularly for 2 years with no issues, but stopped using the stronger AHAs when I started this product. In the last 2 weeks or so I would notice a slight burn when applying products, which escalated in the last week. I’ve stopped using actives, cleaning my face with just water in the morning and removing makeup with micellar cleanser in the pm followed by hyaluronic acid (am) niacinamide (am±), CeraVe moisturiser (am±) , and my LRP spf 50. everything I apply to my face burns. Even CeraVe. My neck has red patches that burn intensely, but my face isn’t peeling or visibly dry, just stings when I apply products or makeup. Any advice on how to heal? If it’s relevant my skin is normal/combination type and usually very tolerant/ not sensitive.Should I keep using CeraVe in hopes of restoring my moisture barrier even if it seems to be adding to my irritation? :/ Anyone been in a similar situation and have a product recommendation that helped their skin heal or any insight into how long I can expect it to burn and sting if I keep laying off of the actives? Any help is greatly appreciated <3

[Acne] How I identified & cleared my fungal acne

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Picures of before after: https://imgur.com/a/DfCHQUuHello everyone, I've been a long time lurker of this sub & I wanted to start by saying how grateful I am for this community. I am highlighting in every paragraph important element in case you don't feel like reading the whole post.Firstly, I am incredibly sorry if you’re reading this & find yourself relating. I know how frustrating it is to know something is wrong with your skin & not knowing how to help. Having doctors prescribe the pill, acutane, retinoids, spending thousands on acids, facials, only to realize you don’t even have acne, just a stubborn fungi living rent free on your face. & then having to ditch your beloved products, that work well on others, & spend yet again to buy FA safe products. Being paranoid about touching your face, having to switch pillowcases everyday to not reinfect, i know i know. & don’t even get me started on all the looks you get from family members & people you talk with, it is honestly depressing but just know it gets better. At least you are here, at least you know the source of it all & you can start on fixing it. Thankfully, it’s not a difficult thing to treat, it just requires care, patience & consistenceMy first flair up was over a year ago. I had a bunch of redness of my face the day before a wedding, & was given the advice of wearing an overnight castor oil mask (yikes). I woke up the next day & every single on of my pores was a white head... I popped them all & applied foundation, attended the wedding & my skin eventually healing a few weeks later.A few months later, I went to a L'Oréal sale where I bought a bottle of Garnier Ombrelle sunscreen. I also got a lash lift and was scared to damage my lashes so I started applying castor oil overnight. This was the beginning of my downfall. During my sleep, the oil would smear on my cheeks & the sunscreen broke me out daily. At first, it was a few pimples on my face. After popping them everyday, I would try to calm my skin down with any oil I had laying around (castor, almond, avocado, grape seed, etc.)Every time I would use the oil, the breakout would get worse, but instead of big pimples, it was dozens of tiny white heads. I eventually got really sick of it & went to my doctor. He prescribed Differin & warned me about the dryness, at the same time, I cut out every chemical skincare & resorted to natural products (including oils, lol). So i would apply a thick moisturizer every night & top it up an oil or vaseline. Since it's a retinoid, I also continued using (heavily) the Garnier suncreen... I waited over a month thinking I was just purging until I literally had a mental breakdown one night.I got really sick & tired of looking this bad, & realized my acne which i had been dealing with for years now (Not fungal at first) was tearing my confidence appart. What is the point of putting on makeup, jewelry, cute clothes & do my hair when my skin looked diseased? Doctors were no help, they put me on Differin & blamed all my pimples on the natural purging of Differin. My acne was keeping me up at night, sometimes it was itchy, the masks made it worse, I could not focus in class, was avoiding my (supportive) boyfriend, made no friends, etc. This is when I started heavily searching the subject. I found out I had Malassezia Follucilitis & Differin was doing absolutely nothing to help that. What I wish I knew:fungal acne does not look the same on everyone, which is a detail that kept me from addressing my own FA for months. The way people were describing it was not what I had exactly & picture never seemed to match. Mine manifested in:- dozens of clusters of tiny white heads in all my pores- redness all over my face once the whiteheads disapeared- It was really bad on my chin, cheeks & the middle of my forehead. It never spread all over my cheekbones & side of the forehead.-It was rarely itchy or dry.-It was also very cyclic (which I believe is because I did not use oils everyday & did not apply sunscreen when I had online school).- I also had dandruff in my eyebrows, which is an obvious sign of fungi, but I thought it was the dryness of Differin.- it was stubborn to every product, acide, retinol, retinoid, washes, masks, facials, you name it- you have the feeling it is NOT acne, seriously trust your instincts, you deal with your skin everyday you know more about it than any person (who is not a dermatologist)I then discovered Simple Skincare Science, my bible. I first used Nizoral & it worked pretty much instantly. I washed my face with it & the next day I woke up with a clear face for the first time in months. Although my face felt very dry, it was healthy at the moment, Nizoral will cause dryness that is normal.I later read the whole blog of simple science skincare, & realized my sunscreen, lash oil & day moisturizer were the culprit. I stopped using all three (which were garner ombrelle sunscreen, castor oil & The Ordinary moisturizer) & switched to coppertone gel sunscreen & eucerin healing ointment. For about a week of this, my skin stayed well behaved & I finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel. Through this treatment, I kept using Differin & would sometimes wash with Panoxyl to make sure normal acne wouldn’t show up.Then… I fucked up. Firstly, the constant use of Nizoral was killing my moisture barrier, & i could tell but I was too stubborn to stop. Then, I committed the terrible mistake of wearing foundation for 2 hours, thinking if i washed it off immediately after, there’s no way it would have time to react. WRONG. I honestly believe I had my foundation on for like 1h30 minutes but i’ll say 2 for good measure. On top of that, I was wearing a mask which basically created a luxury buffet for the fungi to feed on. Upon removing my makeup, everything seemed alright, I washed with Nizoral again just to be safe (lol) & the next day, I woke up with a breakout that reminded me of my era before learning about FA. It was terrible. All over my face again, tiny whiteheads. That same day, I bought CeraVe Baby lotion because I was sick of the thickness of Eucerin & was longing for a normal light moisturizer. I tried to not panic when I woke up & simply did another Nizoral mask (lol again). As soon as I washed it off, my face was super red & tingling. I thought the dryness was causing it, so I applied the CeraVe moisturizer & proceeded to experience what I would describe as lava on my face. The burning was SO bad. The moisturizer is obviously not at fault here, my moisturize barrier was just officially fucked. So I stopped all treatments & repaired my moisture barrier. It took me a little less than a week which makes me think maybe it wasn't very damaged, thankfully. Despite, the fungal acne was still there. I booked an appointement with my doctor because no dermatologists are available in my city (little tip for you, call it a fungal INFECTION. Doctors who are not specialized in skin problems hear the word acne & immediately think BACTERIA. Keep the word acne out of your mouth & you'll get what you need). I was prescribed:- Nizoral in the form of a cream (doesn't dry like the shampoo), so basically Ketoconazole 2% cream- 50Mg of Fluconazole to take in the span of two weeks. He kept the dosage low because it can be damaging for my liver, I need a blood test when I am done with the pills. It took two days to completely clear my skin.My routine now:AM:-wash face with just cold water-ketoconazol 2% cream-Cerave Baby Lotion-Coppertone gel sunscreenPM:-wash with Panoxyl-apply Differin-take 50mg of Fluconazole-Eucerin healing ointmentI sometimes use 100% plant-derived squalane oil from The Ordinary to gua sha.what to take from this post:-if you're already in this sub, you're lucky-it gets better-you don't have acne-once it's clear, you are not out of the woods, keep an FA safe routine-if you can't access a dermatologist, you'll be fine

[Misc] I've always wondered how TY skincare gurus/influencers can try 10 different products at once

Beauty Tips For Body Care
First off, i know most of them are just getting paid to advertise the products (Cassandra/James with Ordinary/Inkey, Hyram with Fenty, Susan with Paula, etc) but how can they logically make a video about a product that came out a month ago and recommend it by saying it works for them or it made their skin "feel better"?Also, i feel like most of them are just advertising machines with the constant product rollout.I mean even if people found out what works for them, they still have to sell you products because there's always more and more products coming out (which is weird cause how far can you take innovation when brands are making the same aha bha vitamin c salicylic acid toner retional serum moisturizer bs) It seems like they're slowly gearing towards K-beauty because of the use of diff ingredients but in a few years when they start getting bored of it, they'll turn back to the western brand and start marketing them as "breakthroughs" as they do with K-products.What do y'all think?Edit: I wrote YT (youtube) wrong in the title so ignore that

[acne] Tretinoin and tinitus (ringing in ears)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey everyone, I wanted to make you aware of something I’ve learned recently. I’ve been using tret. for a long while now for stubborn hormonal adult acne. Every now and then I would have ringing in my ears but recently had a ring that was louder and longer than the past, so much so that it worried me into googling tinnitus. I didn’t know what ototoxicity meant in the Harvard info site, but when I randomly mentioned it to my doctor later, he let me know that tretinoin can cause tinnitus. Just wanted to give a heads up to others... I am curious if anyone knew about this here or has experienced it. You can google ototoxicity and tretinoin for more info.

[Product Question] Peace Out Acne Dots: How to Apply?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi! Typically, when I apply these dots, they’re for pimples that are either under the skin or have already been popped. My face broke out recently and I currently have one that has come to a head. I’m wondering if I should pop it, then apply the sticker? Or will it still work without popping it?Hopefully my question made sense.. basically, I don’t want to pop any pimples (because that’ll slow the natural healing process), but I’d also like the acne dots to be as effective as possible. :’)

[Routine help] Can you not wash face in the morning and use actives on top?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I suffered from what might be the worst breakout of my life. I thought I damaged my moisture barrier which maybe I did, so I focused on repairing it. It did make my skin less textured and overall bouncier than my previously parched skin but the acne didn't stop. I woke up with a bunch of acne everyday that kept spreading no matter what. After about 3 weeks of not using any active and repairing my skin barrier, I couldn't deal with so much acne so I started using clindamycin and BP 2.5%. It instantly cleared 70% of my skin and now it has started to feel like before, still a long way to go to reach my previous baby butt skin but it is what it is. Anyway, I have these red marks and post acne red/brown marks which are a cause of concern to me. Because I've only introduced BP to my routine I wanted something that takes care of my hyperpigmentation as well so now I've introduced 10% azelaic acid in the morning( since last 2 days). I live in a very dry country climate and my skin is normal/oily but it's getting way too dry in the winter (I lived in a hot humid country before so never faced dryness). I saw that you can get away with not washing your face in the morning in winters. Is that okay? I wash my face with water and put on azelaic acid on top and then put my moisturizer and sunscreen. Will just rinsing with water remove the germs and bacteria from my face and is it okay to apply azelaic acid on top of it?Here's my routine right now:AM: Wash face Azelaic acid 10% gel (keep on for 30 minutes wash it off) Moisturize(add 3 drops of TO rosehip oil) SunscreenPM Oil cleanse Cetaphil foaming facewash Climdamycin+nicotinamide gel (leave on) BP 2.5% gel(leave on for 1 hour and wash face with water) Moisturizer (add 3 drops of TO rosehip oil)Also, I almost gave up and thought my acne was fungal but BP is working really well on my skin except I still get whiteheads on my chin and some grow into painful pimples. What kind of acne is this? I had pimples on my forehead that are completely gone after using BP but my chin acne/whiteheads keep coming back. Is this fungal acne? I also think I might have seborrheic dermatitis (of the scalp?) Not sure about it, is my chin acne related to that?

[product question] is it worth it to buy under eye cream?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I was just wondering if it’s worth it to buy moisturizer/cream specifically for your under eyes, or if it’s more of a marketing gimmick. Could just use a good, regular moisturizer under your eyes?I have a good moisturizer from curology but sometimes I forget to put it under my eyes and my under eye area has been looking a little dehydrated. Not sure if I should pick up something specific or if my current moisturizer will work if i actually start using it

[Skin concerns] spots won’t go away

Beauty Tips For Body Care
posting for a third time because this keeps getting deletedI don’t think I have acne, but I regularly seem to get huge pimples (usually with pus inside) and no matter what I do they just stay there, definitely for way longer than the average spot. I have a red scar on my cheek from one that has not changed in appearance for about 6 months, and in between my eyebrows I have a spot that has not reduced in size at all for around a month, along with red marks that have been left from other spots.I feel so insecure and now every time I get a pimple I just know it’s not gonna go away. Is there a product I should try? Or should I try a dermatologist?

[Routine Help] is it better to use low % bha frequently or high % bha 1-2x weekly

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been trying my best to get rid of blackheads and tighten my pores. But nothing seems to work . I've used various products from cosrx bha liquid, Paula's choice BHA 2% and The ordinary peeling solution. As of now there has been little to no changes . My face is still very oily and my nose is filled by these tiny black dots filling up my pores ( probably SF, but i still have blackheads on my cheeks). So I've been wondering whether is it better to use a lower % bha so i can apply it daily / once every 2 days instead of once/twice a week with a high % bha so that it can clean my pores more frequently throughout the week?

[B&A] 4 year Skincare Journey

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm not sure how to link photos so if this link doesn't work let me know and I can try to update it: https://imgur.com/a/vzswRMQNote: I saw a dermatologist when I was at my worst and have been prescirbed doxycycline, minocycline and prednisone multiple times. There is no other medication I was prescribed and all of the photos included in the B&A can be attributed to either changes in my routine or my hormones balancing out in age (17-22).Routine:Oil-Based Cleanser: Hanskin Pore Cleansing Oil - BHAWater-Based Cleanser: CeraVe Foaming CleanserToner: COSRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner OR their Original Clear Toning Pads (if I go to the gym)Essence: COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power EssenceTreatments: The Ordinary Hylaluronic Acid 2% + B5 during the day, I use the Lactic Acid 10% + HA at night IF I don't use Dr. Dennis Gross' Extra Strength Daily Peel (I know it says daily, no I don't use it daily because it's $$$)Eye Cream: The INKEY List Caffeine Eye SerumMoisturizer: COSRX Oil Free Moisturizing Lotion unless I feel really dry/stressed, then I use Dr. Dennis Gross Stress Repair Face Cream (a little goes a LONG way)Sun Protection: innisfree Daily UV Defense Sunscreen SPF 36 There are some other things I use, but this is a condensed list of products I use in my routine. I'm happy to answer any questions about my personal experience with products.Note regarding routine: The Routine above does change a bit depending on the day and treatment use. For example, the peel pads are used BEFORE the toner and everything following the toner. I just consider it a treatment of sorts so I lumped it in with the rest. I am aware that some of the products on my list are (1) expensive or (2) hard to find but I mostly go to TJ Maxx/Marshalls for COSRX productsFinal Note: For the most part, I only get hormonal acne and it's 2-3 pimples which I use pimple patches for. Currently, I am trying to treat for hyperpigmentation/uneven skin tone.Edit to include skin type + skin concerns + extra info: I have an oily/combo skintype moreso combo in winter because dry air. My skin concerns are hyperpigmentation (now) but it used to be managing hormonal acne. I still break out ~2-3 pimples for 1 week of a month (gee wonder when) but it's much more manageable. That being said, I don't really rely on a special diet nor have I cut anything out that I used to eat/enjoy. The only other thing I've done differently is sleep on a satin pillowcase...but that's more for my hair than my face.

[skin concerns] I’ve had breakouts like this since I was 13. I am now 20. I cannot get them to stop or calm down.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’ve always had an issue with major flare ups like this. Usually my skin is pretty clear. But usually twice a month I get these flares that give me painful cysts, and red pimples. So far of the thousands of products I’ve tried over the years; I’ve found that a goats milk bar soap as a cleanser, a hyaluronic acid serum, and aquphor keep my skin looking like this. As you can see, my breakouts still aren’t calm looking and they’re still painful. What else can I do, that’s somewhat natural, to help clear my skin?

[Skin Concerns] Skin breakout after using TO Niacinamide and Zinc what should I do?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello all, so the other day when I was home from college I saw TO Niacinamide and Zinc on my sisters desk after seeing on tiktok that this stuff was good for your skin I robbed it and took it up to college with me despite having perfect skin and rarely getting spots…. A week or two passes I completely forget about this stuff until one day I’m looking for nail clippers and I see this in my drawer so hey I horse a load of it all over my face and go to bed, wake up fine go to the gym and buy some preworkout as you do. Hours later my face is starting to go red and burn and I’m like the f**k kind of preworkout did I take? Before hitting the hay my face is red as shit and burning a lot. I didn’t think much about it until I woke up and I’ve got tiny little spots on my face, my skin is all dried out, red as shit and burning slightly still! All my housemates noticed straight away and I had no idea what I did to make this happen, well after brainstorming for some time and wondering why preworkout is only doing to this to me now after years of taking it I wonder hey that Niacin stuff that could be the problem….. quick google of ‘Niacinamide reactions’ and I think so, people of r/SkincareAddiction does anyone have any advice how to clear my skin again and is this going to cause permanent damage on my skin? Here’s attached images of my skin I couldn’t figure out how to use imgur so hope this does…Thankshttps://ibb.co/0Qf0DFW https://ibb.co/VqZhVwR

[Hair removal] Ingrown facial hair help

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm a 27 year old male and for the last few have gotten chronic ingrown hairs on my face. I used to shave to the skin because my facial hair is patchy. Since that causes a lot of irritation I have tried to just trim it now. I have also tried CeraVe face cleaning products the last 2 weeks. It just seems even when I don't shave I get a new ingrown hair every other day. It's very frustrating and stressing me out. What can I do to fix this or prevent it?

[Personal] How do YOU cope with the emotional/mental side of bad skin?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've suffered from bad skin all my life. It's made me hide away. It's made me quit jobs. It's ruined relationships.I only seem to be happy when my skin is clear and, after 2 accutane courses, I was acne and seb-derm free for 5 years. Unfortunately, following a breakup and other massive life changes, my skin has flared up and has gotten consistently worse over the past 2 months. Nothing seems to work and I cant go back onto accutane because of the depression... I feel hideous and useless. I feel it will never get better. I'm 30 now and still suffering.However... I recognise this controls me more than it should. I let acne, redness and skin issues control me. I wish I could be happy and just 'deal with it' as people say... but I haven't found the methods yet. I can't afford CBT but would love to hear how you guys cope with bad skin?I'm noticing myself falling into old behaviours such as cancelling plans, checking the mirror constantly, not wanting to leave the house, thinking of my skin 24/7...So yeah. How do YOU cope with the mental strain of bad skin?

[Anti-Aging] Melatonin on skin for wrinkles?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Does anyone here use topical liposomal melatonin on their skin? I do. After reading up on it, I began using a 5mg liquid solution (per 1ml) on my face a week ago.Interestingly, the research shows it can reduce wrinkles rather fast (albeit in different melatonin solutions). There seems to be a dearth of information of any real life reports of this, even though one study showed fairly remarkable results after 12 weeks of use: See here: https://www.dovepress.com/antiaging-efficacy-of-melatonin-based-day-and-night-creams-a-randomize-peer-reviewed-fulltext-article-CCIDResults: All the subjects completed the study. Crow’s feet was reduced significantly (p=0.05) by –15% with the creams in comparison with the non-treated side after 3 months. At the end of the study, surface microrelief (–26.5%), skin profilometry (–13%), skin tonicity (+30%) and skin dryness (–59.5%) significantly improved with active treatment. Both products were well tolerated. Conclusion: In women with skin aging, Mel-based creams improved significantly skin tonicity and skin hydration with a significant reduction in skin roughness, supporting the skin antiaging effect of this molecule applied topicallyAnd here: https://www.mdpi.com/2079-9284/5/4/60/htmANTERA 3D evaluations showed a significant reduction in the coarse and fine wrinkle volume in the target area of −31% and −18%, respectively. And here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3583885/Thus, there is considerable evidence for melatonin to be an effective anti-skin aging compound, and its various properties in this context are described in this review. And here: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s13555-020-00443-2Night Cream significantly reduced oxidative stress in human skin ex vivo. Clinically, hydration (+ 64.4%; p < 0.05) and transepidermal water loss (TEWL) values (− 10.0%; p < 0.05) were improved within 1 h of use. *****Wrinkle counts were reduced by up to 18.9% (*****p < 0.05), and brown and UV spot numbers by 5.5% (p < 0.05) and 13.2% (p < 0.05), respectively. Lactic acid-induced stinging was significantly reduced within 7 days of use, with 86.7% of subjects reporting that their skin felt calmer.I know some people are worried it will make people sleepy, but the reading I have done shows that while it may affect the blood levels, it does not induce the same response transdermally as oral melatonin.

[Acne] Developed acne over lockdown and it won't go away

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Note* I've seen two posts about this in the past but neither provided much infoI'm not really begging for help as much as I'm trying to see if anyone else experienced this same issue. Once lockdown started at the beginning of the pandemic I started developing acne on my cheeks. I assumed it was due to my time staying home and not getting enough sunlight/fresh air, but now that restrictions have lessened significantly and I have been going out more regularly for the past few months, nothing has changed. In fact, I think the acne has gotten even worse. It has spread to my jawline and up towards the lower sides of my foreheadThis puzzles me because my skin was perfectly fine for the 22 years before all this started, even when I was simply just washing my face twice a day with water for years. Now I can't seem to get my acne to calm down, no matter what cleansers and moisturizers I use. I've been left with what seems to be acne scarring along my right cheek, as its a big red splotch 'under the skin' right where my worst acne used to be at the beginning of the pandemic.Sorry for the long post, I just need to see if anyone else has had a similar experience. Thanks

[skin concern] Hello! Does anyone have a scalp friendly shampoo recommendation?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’m not sure if scalp skin fits in here but y’all are a knowledgeable community so I figured I’d ask.I’ve (22 F) been using a natural brand of shampoo called Calia for around four years now. I really love it but a switch may be necessary. Recently I’ve developed dandruff and I suspect that my hair has been thinning. I’ve been using head and shoulders for the last few weeks and that has handled the majority of the dandruff issue. From here I want to focus on nourishing my scalp and hopefully regrow some of that thinning hair up top. I’ve had thick hair for my entire life and it really sucks to see it fall out.Anyway, I would really appreciate a scalp friendly, hair strengthening shampoo recommendation if anyone has a favorite! General scalp care tips are also very helpful.Thank you in advance:)

No silicones no alcohol no pegs, many goodies on incidecoder(which I’ll include a screenshot in the comments). Really great stuff

Do “lip balms” of the future have hope? [Reviews] [Misc] [Discussion]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
A lot of companies have come up with a lot of interesting lip products with different ingredients, formulation and packaging. From lip balms, oils, glosses, masks, the list is endless. Most of these products have the same redundant ingredients (petroleum jelly, mineral oil, cocoa butter etc) that feel really thick and tacky on the lips, and it hasn’t done much for me.So what interesting product, ingredient (in terms of lipcare) have you come across that grabbed your attention and worked well for you? What do you think brands should do to innovate on lip products?

[Sun Care] Good mineral and or chemical sunscreens for people with darker skin ?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi guys!👋🏽 (newbie here) I’m in the process of upgrading/building my skincare routine and I’m currently looking for a sunscreen for my face that I can incorporate into my daily routine. Was wondering if y’all could help me out by dropping y’all’s favorites/recommendations for those with darker skin tones. Not sure if this helps, but my face is definitely more on the oily side.
