[Misc] What are your thoughts on Dr. Dray’s Fenty Skin review for those that have watched?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I really like Dr. Drays take on it and what stuck to me was when she said “if you’re going to be environmentally conscious, don’t make a skincare line”. I don’t think she was digging at Rihanna personally but more at companies or celebrities skincare lines who try to woo consumers by using environmental friendly tactics to gain sales. She makes a lot of other fair points throughout the video which I’m all for. I think it’s good that she is transparent about the line compared to other YouTubers in the skincare community who may not address the kind of things she said.My reasons for not purchasing her products is due to my irritation to fragrance and it’s somewhat steep price point. I’m broke but even if I had money to spare I wouldn’t consider purchasing.Do you guys disagree/agree with her?

[Personal] ok, I get it now!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Long time lurker, first time poster.I was a baby lurker on this sub and y'all convinced me to get into it, so I did so by rustling up a Mary Kay botanical effects cleanser, an Elf toner and the Elf daily moisturizer.Good instincts, terrible execution lol.I dropped the toner quickly (so much alcohol), but that moisturizer... I thought my face was itchy after use because I wasn't using enough! Eventually I dropped this too, when it made painful red patches appear on my skin.I decided to just lurk and soak up everything I could learn. I got a cleanser that actually worked for my skin and stuck with it. I did the skin type test. I started my first ever excel sheet to find my problem ingredient. And now, today, I used a proper moisturizer for the first time in my life. And then I started tapping my face. And I said, almost exactly:"Oh! oh. Ohhhh. Oh this is a moisturizer. Oh wow. Oh man. oh, this is dangerous. oh wow." ..... "So this is what they meant by bouncy!"Which is a very long-winded way to say thank you for all the answers to my many questions and the patience to teach 💕I'm sure I'll have a lot more. Already been eyeing some azelaic acid 👀(The cleanser is Simple kind to skin foaming cleanser and my "dangerous" new moisturizer is the Neutrogena hydroboost gel-cream for sensitive skin. :D Both were recs from HG threads. I guess this is technically a product review? Didn't mean for it to be.)

[PSA] I made a video explaining Drunk Elephant's strategy to becoming so popular.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
https://youtu.be/OiBB4ofX4EUI study brands for a living and I always thought Drunk Elephant was a super interesting company because it became popular very fast and has a cult following (along with a healthy group of haters). Any consumer can give their products a try, but I wanted to showcase a deeper level of the brand strategy so that consumers can also understand how they're being persuaded to buy these products by the company. Acne is Human [acne]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've noticed a lot of posts recently from people with acne about how it makes them feel really self conscious and I thought this video would be really impactful for some. You Look Disgusting by My Pale Skin on YouTube was incredibly impactful for me when I first watched it in 2015. I know it is (or at least was) very popular then and in the off chance that some of you haven't seen it yet, I wanted to bring it back to attention.Acne is a natural part of being human. You shouldn't feel ashamed of it, acne doesn't define you or make you "lesser" than people with clear skin. You are a beautiful person. Full stop. The phrase isn't "you are beautiful but your acne is so obvious". It isn't "your beautiful but you should really wear some makeup to cover that uneven tone." It isn't "you're beautiful but you'd look even better if you'd just clear that up." There is no if, ands, or buts about it.Being self conscious of it is always going to exist in some way, shape, or form, but you can get to the point where you can say "fuck it" and not care what anyone else thinks. This is your life, it's your face, it's your skin and it always will be so letting someone tear you down is pointless. If you want to cover it with makeup that is 100% your choice but you should do it for you. If you want to get accutane, do it for you. Anything you want to do to clear your acne, do it for you, not because someone bullied you into it.You are beautiful. You are handsome. You are human.Edit: typo

[Skin Concerns] African American skincare hyperpigmentation/acne/burns

Beauty Tips For Body Care
[Skin Concerns] Would you guys be interested in a few tips and tricks for African American skin and hair? And where do you recommend I share these pics, tips, and tricks? I struggled with hyperpigmentation and stress acne for two years and was surprisingly able to get my face back to normal after a year post superficial chemical burns around my mouth ( literally burnt the black off of me). I believe in diversity and inclusion and I think this info may be helpful to people of color and beauticians.

[Sun Care] To those of you that wear sunscreen daily (which I assume is most of you), how the h e c k do you do it??

Beauty Tips For Body Care
1/4 a tsp is the recommended amount for the face (or so I've seen), so today I decided I should measure just to see. I couldn't find my 1/4 tsp so I used a 1/8 tsp, I filled it with my banana boat simply protect kids mineral SPF 50 sunscreens, and I couldn't even apply h an l f off it to my face. How do you guys manage to apply 1/4 tsp and not feel like you're an oily mess and like you're gonna breakout and clogging your pores? Do you guys have magical sunscreen? I mean if you do, please share, because I have very sensitive, oily, acne-prone skin and I know sun protection is important but gosh it's more of a hassle to wear sunscreen than it is to not. So if you have any advice or sunscreen recommendations (preferably drugstore because I can't exactly afford to pay more than $20 for a sunscreen), it’d be highly appreciated!!

Or is rinsing with water sufficient? The reason I'm asking is because I don't want to dry my skin out by cleansing too many times (I'll be doing another cleanse at night later). But at the same time, I don't want to get maskne either. For those who've successfully avoided acne while wearing a mask for long periods, can you please share your tips? (Yes, I've read the COVID-19 thread)BTW, I use a cotton mask. Do you find that cotton masks irritate your skin or cause acne? Is there a better alternative? I've heard of silk masks, but I'm not sure it'll be better than cotton for my skin.Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated :)

[Skin Concerns] I shave my legs about every 3 to 4 days and generally take great care of my skin. I (mostly) don't have in-growns or anything but these red spots keep finding their way on my legs. Especially the unders and insides of my thighs. Anything I can do do alleviate this?

I’m new to skincare, so I (incorrectly) assumed all Cerave products would be good plus it was only $12 at TJ Maxx. Y’all, it left me looking like a ghost and it’s really hard to rub in. [Skin Concerns] affecting mental health. As much as I love my skincare I am also very sad that I care so much about it. Anyone else? Our value as women has nothing to do with how our skin looks!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Obviously I am a skincare addict. I've suffered with acne big time, I'm about to turn 30, and I'm a woman. All of these experiences have resulted in a bit of an obsession. Hence even being an active participant on this sub!!Today I just feel sad that we as women are so dependent on the appearance of our skin for happiness. This is without a doubt a result of the patriarchal myth that we are only as valuable as we are beautiful. WHICH IS NOT TRUE.So, in a place where we seek support for our skincare, I also think we should support each other in our beauty that is beyond skin deep! Let us all be gentle with ourselves, and each other. I'll speak for myself when I say that I know my obsession can be harmful to my mental health.Anyways, that is all. Thank you for reading my little rant. I hope you all know just how beautiful you are despite acne, wrinkles, pigmentation, pore size, etc! We are so much more than our skin.

[Misc] Unpopular Opinion: Hyram does not deserve the hate he gets.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Maybe it’s because I’m in my mid-20s and can more or less responsibly consume YouTube videos that are meant to help with beauty concerns, but I honestly do not see why people hate on Hyram so much. I’ve never had a Tik Tok, and I happened across one of his videos while searching for a simpler skin routine or a review about a product (I forget which). What I found was that:1) He made it very clear that he had no professional credentials to back up his skin care reviews and advice. He has also admitted to making mistakes like about the difference between silica and silicone. He openly admits to be constantly learning.2) The skin care community is full of so much jargon and he presented the information in an entertaining (sometimes corny) and digestible way while trying to promote eco friendliness and spotlight issues such as sunscreen for darker skin tones.3) He offers his opinion in such a way that encourages you to do your own research about a product, and has said many times that even if he himself doesn’t like a product for whatever reason, if it works for your skin then who cares what anyone says.It seems to me that he’s a solid, approachable, if imperfect, introduction into skincare before you start going into SCA level of dedication (ie dermatologist/aesthetician recommended). Also to be honest, I don’t care about how he calls himself a specialist because I know when I walk into Sephora or Macy’s or what have you, I expect the employees to know more than I do. And I will always cross reference information I get from the internet. Sure he’s “capitalized” off of it, but let him secure his bag, he seems to have created a heightened awareness at least about ingredients and hopefully made his fans a little more thoughtful about what they put on their skin.In short: Hyram puts disclaimers all the time, it’s a nice intro to the world of skincare, do your own research and be a responsible consumer of YouTube videos, and it’s not that serious.

Fenty Skin will be fragranced [Miscellaneous]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I just watched a promo video they released explaining their products and their goal with the brand and she said that “fragrance is very important to her”. She justified it with “only a clean scent, never a perfumey one and never more than 1%”. Which is really disappointing cause I know this crosses her products off for so many people. A lot of people in the comments were defending it (presumably Rihanna fans) saying it’s only 1% etc etc but in my case fragrance could be the last ingredient and I’d wake up with 3 new spots.I really hope she releases some fragrance free products cause everything else sounded great :)

[PSA] You should avoid applying exfoliants or retinoids on moles.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've recently started to be a bit paranoid about my moles and today I went to a dermatologist for a checkup. It's the first time I'm checking them since I started using BHA and retinol, so I asked her if I should avoid applying these products on the moles (I've been doing so just in case, but it's a bit tedious since I have quite a few of them and some of them are small). She said that it's indeed better to apply these products around your moles, since they can irritate the skin and you want to be as gentle as possible with moles. She said that if I find it difficult, I can apply some moisturizer on the moles (just some dots of it basically) and this will help me avoid them. I imagine this would work with my TO retinol, but I have no idea how this would work with a cream retinoid.Anyway, I thought it would be nice to share since I never hear anything on this subject. Do you have any experience with moles + these products or any other tips to take care of them?

[Misc] I really want to be able to not wear makeup, but my skin looks so oily and porous after moisturizing

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I really want to transition into not wearing makeup. My skin looks great lately, and I feel like it’s a good time to start the process. The problem is, after my morning routine (vitamin C serum, light day moisturizer, and sunscreen) my pores just look huge and my skin looks so oily. I absolutely hate how it looks, and it also leads me to want to pick at my skin (which I did today before work in the parking lot after trying to go without makeup). My skin and pores look fine if I don’t wear any products whatsoever, but I feel like I cant just go bare. What can I do?

[Personal] Cerave Healing Ointment results on a dude

Beauty Tips For Body Care
31 male Asian.So...I was using a bar of soap and random lotion for the longest time with no problems until I turned 30 and it all went down hill.As I aged, I noticed my skin being super dry after showering with the bar of soap and my skin being super oily throughout the day as a result of my skin being dry after the shower. I suspect the soap was striping all the oils off my face.So I naturally broke out on my most oily places, cystic forehead and white heads on my cheeks due to be skin being too dry.I tried actives from aha to bha, vitamins, masks etc. didn’t stop the breakouts.Until I figured to stop using the soap and use a proper foaming cleanser, cerave/philosophy and lather my face with cerave tub lotion and top it off with cerave healing ointmentTurns out that my moister barrier was probably all fucked up as a result of using the bar of soap and the cerave lotion and healing ointment is keeping the moisture in my skin and allowing me to look young again lmaoMoisturize

[Misc] Would you use a reusable skincare product?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I am working on a different startup but got the idea of a reusable skincare brand. Basically, customers will buy the products either through a retailer or online, and once they are done using them, they will return the empty packaging/bottles to the manufacturer who will clean it, refill it, and resell it. The whole process is completely waste-free.The customer will get an incentive for returning empty items such as a coupon code or points. I wanted to get thought of skincare users on this system. Any drawbacks you see? Would you participate in such a program? (Assuming the product is good obv)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
incorporating a retinol; whether it be tretinoin, RetinA, Adapalene, or anything; is a powerful step to alleviate acne, hyperpigmentation and signs of aging. it is one of the most scientifically backed up ingredients shown to normalize melanin production, boost collagen and thicken your skin!patience is key, especially while incorporating a new active into your routine. if your skin purges, let it. give it around 4-6 weeks for beautiful skin to reappear!use sun protection, always! invest in a nice sun hat and non-comedogenic sunscreen, and encourage your friends and family to do the same. you can avoid buying a plethora of products by just protecting yourself from harmful UV rays.ceramides and skin repairing ingredients are your best friends, especially if you're using a strong retinoid or chemical exfoliant. invest in a non-irritating, emollient moisturizer rich in ceramides to slather on at night! remember, good skin care does not have to be expensive. CeraVe and Eucerin are a great place to start!experiencing red, irritated and flaky skin? start washing your face with cold water! it can feel uncomfortable at first but the result may motivate you to continue.start applying your skincare 2 hours before bed! it's a waste of product + cash to go to bed with a face full of product because it will be wiped off.all skin is different. some people may rave about the benefits of niacinamide, others may breakout or experience irritation. similarly, some people's skin may enjoy products containing fragrance or essential oils, while others' may not. don't judge people for what works for them!these are some of the ways i've used to incorporate skincare into my life and routine, comment below some tips and tricks that have worked wonders for your skin!

My father keeps reassuring me that it'll go away soon and that I shouldn't go to a dermatologist, while my mom on the other hand, is very supportive and helped me find a dermatologist.Second, what should I prepare for? what will the dermatologist ask me?I finally got the courage to beg for my mom to get me an appointment with a dermatologist and I couldn't be more thankful at how easily she approved. I only use two skincare products as of now, which is a cleanser and a moisturizer. I wanted to wait for the dermatologist to help me with my routine so I don't further aggravate my existing acne. Just last 2 weeks ago, my skin was literally glowing and clearing up. Now, it's gone to sh/t again and I just feel so sad about it that I cry about it to my older sister almost everyday. I hope going to a dermatologist will help my skin.

[Sun care] Looking for a SPF spray or mist that can be reapplied during the day

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I spend a lot of time outside. Often walk for one hour in the morning to my uni, spend every free time between classes outside and at home I spend most time in the backyard. I can't just apply my regular SPF cream on top of my make up every three hours so I am looking for something like a mist. I used bioderma and avene thermal water mists before but they were stinky. So I switched to Uriage, but Uriage is just thermal water without sun protection.

[Acne] Pimple patches actually work!!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Okay holy crap guys, so I know this is a bit of a pointless post but I kept seeing pimple patches being recommended here and I genuinely thought they were probably overhyped and not that effective. Well, I was wrong! Typically, I only really break out around my period but I noticed a couple forming last night so I put two pimples patches on and when I removed them this morning, my pimples were completely gone!! I didn’t even have redness in the area!I have officially become a believer, after being a skeptic for so long. I’ve tried spot treatments before and they always felt irritating, this was a game changer for me!

[Misc] They should have hydrocolloid pimple patches for darker skin tones.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I know that pimple patches and the hydrocolloid ones are a bit see through, but some people choose to wear one and use makeup over to cover it. I've just noticed with darker skin tones (and even with my skin which isn't super dark) that it shows even more, which probably isn't preferred because it also makes your pimple stand out.

This pisses me off so much, everyone on YouTube comments or tiktok act like they know everything after watching their favorite YouTubers and they're not even experts or aesthetician and then attacking people under their routine posts. So what if their holy grail products contains perfume, alcohol, paraben, or essential oil??? it's fine as long it doesn't cause irritation, bad side effects etc. If it works wonders for them then it works. [MISC] Best Advice I've Gotten From This Sub: Visit a doctor/derm for your acne.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
TLDR: SCA helped break my internalized view that caring about acne is "vain," and helped me understand that acne is a valid reason to visit a doctor. This is just a quick thank you to you all.The most life-changing advice I read here is to visit a doctor if your acne isn't getting better. Acne isn't a cosmetic/vanity issue. Don't let anyone--friends, family, trolls on Reddit--tell you otherwise. I had internalized that view for over a decade and here I am at 27 years old, finally taking Accutane after wasting a tremendous amount of time, money, and mental energy. Thanks to my dermatologist, my skin is clearer than ever but I now see ice pick scarring that could've been avoided if I had treated my acne earlier.I had this internalized misconception that caring about my acne was vain...that acne was just a cosmetic issue that's curable with a good skincare routine (preferably arranged into a beautiful shelfie). For YEARS I crawled this subreddit, did hours upon hours of research, and spent probably thousands of dollars on products. I thought if I could beat my acne if I just did enough research, bought the right DE product, or cracked the code to an effective combination of TO topicals. I thought I could do it on my own. I never even considered acne "medical issue" that warranted a visit to the doctor.I just wanted to say thank you SCA for all of your valuable advice, especially about visiting a doctor for acne. Along with CereVe PM it's been truly life-changing! Wishing you all the best in your respective skincare journies--no matter which path you choose to take.

[misc] The consequences of working from home...on my butt

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I’ve been working from home since March, which I’ve been thankful to be able to do. But obviously I just sit on my butt ALL DAY and a few weeks ago I noticed I had developed some butt acne. I’ve been struggling with facial acne for a while, but I was finishing up a round of Minocycline and had the rest of my skin under control, so I figured this was due to my sitting all day and not just normal acne. I also will add that I have no idea when in the pandemic this started because I usually don’t look at my butt in the mirror.I spent a few days only wearing underwear, sleeping without pants, standing more, etc anything to minimize irritating my skin but nothing was changing. I tried glycolic acid toner, Stridex pads, even the Metronidazole I usually use on my face and nothing helped.I browsed through this sub looking for answers and found what worked for me- Selsum Blue shampoo (medicated with menthol but I’m not sure how much that matters). I’ve been using it on my back and butt and there’s already been a huge improvement after a few days. Just put it on in the shower, leave it for a few minutes, wash it off.The reason why I’m sharing this is because the posts I found on butt acne are all from quite a while ago and I’m sure I’m not the only one struggling with this given the state of the world! I hope this helps out someone else. Also- if you have any other tips to avoid this issue please share!

[Skin Concerns] Acne, rashes, and hyperpigmentation on buttocks killing self-esteem

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi all,So I'm writing here with desperation. I recently took a couple of butt photos and I'm aghast to see how ugly they look. My main problem seems to be dark patches and acne-like rashes (sometimes they are filled with what looks like white goop, they don't grow large and are mostly tiny).I'm an Indian [32F] so I'm probably naturally prone to darkness around my nether region, but I honestly didn't expect my tush to look so bad. As you will see, the rest of my body is lighter in shade than the dark patches on my butt and thighs. It's a big blow to my self-esteem. Though I'm usually confident in my body, seeing this has sunk my confidence to the lowest of lows. And, now I feel desperate to just change the way they look, if that's even possible(!). NSFW photo: https://imgur.com/a/Pj9axCxAs for my routine, I don't do anything for my butt skin apart from the good old rub with a loofah and a regular body wash in the shower. I live in a relatively hot and humid region of India, if that's got anything to do with my condition. Also, I have a sedentary job so I spend a considerable part of my day sitting on my ass. My blood sugar levels are normal and as of now, I haven't been diagnosed with any hormonal disorders though I haven't sought medical help for my hyperpigmentation, so can't rule that out 100%.I'm sipping on my iced tea to calm my nerves and anxiously looking forward to hear from you guys. Any help, advice, suggestions would be appreciated!

[Skin Concerns] Why do I wake up with smooth skin then have a face full of texture before bed?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I don’t know why but I’ve noticed now with all my free time self isolating that I always wake up with almost no breakouts or texture of any sort (I’ve got TONS of acne scarring but that’s whatever), but at the end of the day I always end up with a new cyst, a couple white heads, and a ton of texture (just small bumps you can only see in certain lighting).I’ve had on and off hormonal acne for years now and I’ve tried everything for it and I’ll ultimately be going on Accutane once I get back from basic training whenever I get a date to go. But for the time being, does anyone know why this is happening?I don’t wear makeup or heavily wash my face in the morning (just quick water rinse and CeraVe moisturizer). I eat healthy (though my acne isn’t triggered by food), I exercise and shower right after to get the sweat off (I even use a clean towel each day to wipe my sweat off mid workout as recommended by a derm), and then I do nothing with the rest of my day except some Netflix and meditation. I drink a ton of water, keep my skin hydrated, don’t touch or pick, all that jazz.I’m just curious if this happens to anyone else where you do nothing to your skin all day but still find when you wash your face at night, you’ve got a face full of texture and acne, just for it all to be practically gone in the morning and the cycle repeats.

Hi! I am new to skincare AND new to Reddit, so please let me know if I accidentally missed some rules!
