[Research] Using ceramide-containing moisturizers may improve the tolerability AND efficacy of Tretinoin for acne treatment more than moisturizers w/o ceramides

Beauty Tips For Body Care
CLICK HERETable 6 and Table 7 are particularly interesting in my personal opinion so I wouldn’t skip over them.RELATED ACADEMIC LITERATURE[This Study] briefly touches on the merit of Ceramide-containing moisturizers during retinoid therapy in one section. IMO the evidence is more tentative in this one because it wasn’t compared to a moisturizer without ceramides. Nonetheless, I consider the research to be supportive. Skip to the “Excessive Skin Peeling” section if you don’t care about the rest of the study.[This paper] explored the therapeutic potential of ceramides for a range of dermatological conditions. The segment on acne vulgaris (AV) reported that in one small clinical trial: acne patients experienced improved adherence with their acne treatments and less adverse reactions when both a ceramide-containing cleanser and a ceramide-containing cream were used. Interestingly, applying the ceramide products prior to their topical acne medications did not seem to interfere with the efficacy of their acne treatments.[This research] is not related to acne treatment but its findings do reinforce that various topical products containing ceramides are effective treatments for reducing TEWL and resolving skin barrier dysfunction.

[Miscellaneous] Is it me or korean 10-step skincare routine doesn't have any science behind it and is just a marketing ploy of korean skincare companies to get you to buy as many of their products as possible?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Like what the fuck is step 4 "essence"? Do I really need it? Sounds like it's just a serum but better... So then why serum? Not to mention that Korean 10-step skincare routine does not take into an account people with oily skin type. Dude, if I'm gonna use all or most of the products from this system once or (god forbid) twice daily, I will be greasy like somebody rubbed McDonalds take-out bag in my face, and break out. Even if the products are for oily skin type!Korean celebrities don't have glowy glass skin because they do this skincare routine but because they wear shit ton of makeup and are photoshopped on pictures.

[MISC] Let's talk about Susan Yara's Naturium

Beauty Tips For Body Care
More than a year later, there still isn't a clear video or post by Susan Yara describing the events that went done with her brand, Naturium, other than a very questionable apology video which seems to have disappeared. So is she even actually sorry at the least then? Cassandra Bankson mentioned over a month ago, she has seen information that shows Susan Yara has done no wrong or something. So...why us, the consumers haven't been clued in on it? It's all just so weird. All of a sudden I see many influencers talking about Naturium after being quiet on it. So what's the deal?? What's this secret information that clears her name but won't disclose? Personally, if I had information that cleared me of any wrong doing I would want everyone to know asap. This isn't a hate post...I'm genuinely trying to figure out the bizarre nature of this situation. I have mixed feelings about the brand, but I'm not opposed to purchasing some of their products when I have a more clear understanding of what transpired. Thoughts???

Dermatologists Are Cashing In On Skincare Craze [Misc]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Dermatologists are cashing in on the skincare craze. There is so much sponsored products by them across the various platforms (tik tok, instagram, youtube) you would think they gave up on their day job to be PR for companies. I know the information they provide is useful, but let's get real...they are here to make a profit off people. So despite their credentials, I no longer see public dermatologists as unbiased. It's also amusing to me...people see these dermatologists and they must think all they do is actually talk about moisturizers and sunscreen and stuff. In reality the job of a dermatologist is much different.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I bought it because I have really sensitive skin and thought it would be nice in the morning since it is lighter than my HG moisturizer the Avene cicalfate which is really thick especially in the summer time but whenever I put it on I get a burning sensation, but no visible reaction such as a rash or bumps. Any ideas as to why?

[Routine help] My husband (27M) has very dry, flakey, and sensitive skin. Trying to find a minimalist routine.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey there,As the title says my husband is struggling with very dry, sometimes flakey, and sensitive skin. He will get areas of redness on his skin or around his hairline that are even drier than other areas and seem to be worse after showering. He also has increased flaking under his beard. He currently uses the Everyday Oil and it has helped some but not as much as he would like. He is also not a fan of the smell so is looking to find a different oil for this face. Ideally, he only wants to use face oil every day but I am trying to work in some other products that he might be willing to incorporate, but for the most part, he doesn't want a huge AM and PM routine if possible. Thanks in advance for any help!

[Sun Care] Any good water-resistant mineral sunscreens?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
My brother is going to the pool on Friday with our church youth group and I want to get him a good sunscreen that will be water-resistant but also not sting his eyes. We used to use some sunscreens a long time ago when we went to our neighborhood pool and they were horrible. They would sting our eyes, makes us look so white (we are tan), and even caused me to get my face sunburned and my skin peeled.I was looking at the "Banana Boat Sport 100% Mineral Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50+, 6 fl oz" and wonder if anyone has used this sunscreen before for swimming? or any other good sunscreen for the face and body?

[Acne] PSA for Canadian university students trying to get tretinoin

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone!I was doing some digging and I wanted to share how I was able to get a tretinoin prescription in one day (and delivered straight to my door as well! Free of charge). This specifically applies to College /uni students in Canada, though. If you are a student here you get 4 free doctors appointments through Maple (the app) because most if not all universities offer health insurance under Green Shield. Just sign up for Maple with your Greenshield ID (it's your student # plus a few letters or something). I had a virtual appointment and after showing pictures of my skin, got a prescription for tretinoin.I also learnt that tretinoin is free for under 25's SPECIFICALLY if the doctor prescribes it for acne and not for wrinkles (cosmetic reasons)! The pharmacist I spoke to told me that for medical concerns, tret is covered by the CDB (if you're under 25 with no drug insurance then it covers you basically). They also delivered it right to my door the next day!So even if you're not in university, I definitely recommend Maple if you're looking to get some tretinoin with ease.

[Misc] A game changer for my puffy eyes!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Not medical advice, but this tip came from my optometrist and ended up helping me TENFOLD.I thought my eyes were chronically puffy. I figured that these were just my eye(lid)s, and I would have to learn to deal with them. Every morning, I would splash cool water on my face, rinse out the eye crusties, apply a cool compress to help bring down the puffiness, apply a caffeine serum to the lids, and add some lubricating eyedrops to my dry eyes.Almost a full year of this gradually worsening and eventually I made it to the optometrist for an unrelated issue. During the visit, he noticed that my eyelids were extremely inflamed on the inside. He prescribed me an antibiotic/steroid eye drop to address the overgrowth of bacteria and help reduce the swelling. This all pretty usual, but what he said next blew my mind: BABY SHAMPOO. He instructed me to routinely wash my eyes (closed) with baby shampoo (I opted for cerave bebe). After the course of the medication was done, he instructed I reduce my eye washing routine to every so often or as needed. He explained that sometimes bacteria overgrows, and the soap will help regulate it when I feel my eyes getting bothersome again.WHAT A GAME CHANGER! It's been a couple months and I haven't had to do anything else for my eyes. When I thought I had a little extra "eye fat" and was just a person who had puffy eyes in the morning, I was so wrong. I stopped having to use the cold compresses and the serums. I even stopped waking up with a bunch of crust in my eyes. This addition was a winner for me. Of course, its always best to see your optometrist first (however I realize not everyone has the coverage and it can be expensive).I hope this story has helped!TLDR; my optometrist noticed my eyelids were extremely swollen, addressed the bacteria buildup/swelling problem with some medicated eye drops, and suggested I use baby shampoo to wash my eyes (closed) to help the prevent the issue from reoccurring. Kept up with the baby shampoo every so often, and haven't had a puffy eye since!

I have combination skin that gets oily throughout the day, but I find a lot of products dry out my cheeks. I'm wondering what the best acne line is that can clear up my skin. I am looking for an exfoliator/scrub, toner, spot treatment, and a moisturizer hopefully with acne clearing ingredients in it. Thanks!

[Routine Help] - First time using Rosehip Oil

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone,I recently purchased Rosehip Oil (first time using any type of oil at all) for hyperpigmentation of old acne. It was recommended to be used at the PM time. After applying the oil, how long do I leave it on my face as I couldn't find instructions online? The last few days since I started, I left it on my face for the night and went to bed after applying it. The smell tends to be quite strong, and the oil tends to get in my pillow case. Am I using it correctly?

[misc] confirmed salt allergy vent

Beauty Tips For Body Care
People dismissed me and made fun of me (on this sub and other places) when I said I was allergic to salt or sodium. Because I kept having reactions to ingredients that started with “sodium.”Well I’m actually diagnosed with that allergy. I got an allergic reaction after forgetting to wash my face after crying so I finally went to the derm and they confirmed my allergy. I literally had a reaction to the salt in my own tears.I just needed to get that off my chest since I was told so many times by other users here that I was “paranoid” and I couldn’t possibly be allergic to salt/sodium.All those jerks made me doubt myself. The take away is listen to your skin and follow your gut.

[Routine Help] heavy foot calluses

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have no routine to speak of. I’m a stereotypical straight middle aged father. I walk around barefoot a LOT so my feet are heavily callused. It doesn’t bother me, but they’ve gotten rough to the point that my wife doesn’t like me to touch her feet with my feet at night in bed, which is one of my all time favorite things to do. I look forward to our alone time at night all day. We spent a day on a river once kayaking and a day or so later my foot calluses came off in giant chunks, almost the size of like a Dr. Shoals shoe insert. Does anyone know a good way to get foot calluses off? I tried using my wife’s pumice stone but they’re pretty thick, didn’t accomplish much. Based on the rules I read, I guess you would say that my skin is oily? I sweat a lot, and my skin isn’t cracking or anything, but my face also isn’t super oily or anything.

[Personal] That feeling when your friend with the best skin ever talks about their routine - reflections on my own skincare goals

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So many of us here come here because we obviously have an interest in skin health, appearance, or naturally both. I love the chemistry side of things and try to keep my skincare hobby health-focused but I will not sit here and pretend that vanity doesn't play a part in my decision to constantly tweak my routine.I have a friend we will call her "A" and she has always had the most beautiful skin but has never really been into skincare and barely ever wears makeup. She basically is about as interested in skincare as my skincare-unaware boyfriend who thinks shampoo = face wash and body wash and shampoo and that one should only buy body lotions in pump bottles for facial usage since "it's cheaper and it's all the same stuff anyway".A and I were talking over video chat about things and skincare came up since I mentioned that I was trying a new sunscreen (which is why I looked like Casper the Ghost or an extra from Memoirs of a Geisha) and we got into skincare and makeup talk and she basically admitted to having a regimen that consists of CeraVe AM, a very cheap mineral oil based moisturizer sold here in Canada (Marcelle Moisture Cream) at night and that she washes her face with fragrance-free glycerin soap when she can remember but mostly water. She said she owns a tube if Finacea but uses it only a few nights a week since she forgets.Me: o_0Part of me when I hear things like this makes me think that so much of skin health is genetic and that maybe all these toners lotions and potions are doing nothing if not exacerbating problems for so many of us.My dermatologist (Russian woman...no bullshit attitude) was very clear that she is 100% anti serums and OTC popular ingredients like niacinamide or Vitamin C - her instructions were "You use moisturizer with SPF oil-free only with Finacea in the AM and tretinoin in the PM after Cetaphil Cliniderm or CeraVe face wash no cleansing oil no YouTube or TikTok garbage" -- she said I could use thermal water spray if I wanted and I asked why "because it is benign and won't compromise the treatment plan I am giving you but will give you the impression that you are using another fancy product since this seems to be important to you" - she evidently has many patients who come in talking about what Dr Dray Hyram blah blah all said they should use and is over it. Her parting words of advice "I am a medical dermatologist only interested in your skin health I am not interested in helping people to look like fake people from the internet it is all a sham"I even asked her about water resistant proper high PPD sunscreen and she said "Are you outside training for Olympic kayaking team on a lake at noon? Are you running in an open field during the afternoon? No? Then let me know when you are and you should then use a water resistant high PPD sunscreen. This is unnecessary for sitting on a computer all day even near a window"Anyway both of these recent experiences have me eyeing the 3 serums on my vanity, the tubes of Rx tretinoin (two strengths to alternate!), Finacea, my 10290940192302 sunscreens that are never quite perfect enough for me in my attempt to go super ultra high PPD with an elegant finish....my different moisturizers for different days and different humidity levels, my toners....I look at all of it and with the exception maybe of the sunscreens (some of which are so irritating to remove that I question if the cleansing process is worse than the sun damage from using a lower PPD easy to remove sunscreen) I think "Is this all a waste of money?"Does anyone else have these thoughts?

[Review] Paula’s Choice is one of my favorite brands, but I find their selection is a bit overwhelming. I decided to review their RESIST line to give some context behind their largest collection for y’all

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey guys! I have been meaning to start doing brand reviews for some time now because I’m very loyal to a lot of brands that have worked for me, and am the kind of person who likes to try a lot of different products just for the sake of collecting data on what works for me. Paula’s Choice is a good brand for this because they genuinely have a product for nearly every type of concern or goal. I would like to first of all very briefly go over the history of the brand, and then I’ll like to go into their skincare lines and share my experiences on the products I have tried. The first line I would like to go over is their RESIST line, and since I’d like to cover each product in depth, I will do it by collection. I should also mention I was not paid for this, and while my view of this company is mostly positive, it’s because this website rewards research and I’ve been happy with most of my purchases so far. However, @Paula’s Choice I’m always here if you wanna slide into my dm’s xoxo. I also have been thinking of making video/audio versions of my posts just because of how wordy they get, but maybe that should be a sign to make them less wordy lol. Anyway, I’d love to know if there is interest in that. I also know they are a controversial brand here, and since this is just a thread to give people information, I’d love to hear the experiences you’ve had with their products, especially if they’re negative.I won’t be rating any products since I still have yet to try many of them. I have tried many items from this site, but when you go collection by collection you start to realize just how many products they have, which in my opinion is kind of an issue. It is also the reason I am doing this, as I have spent a lot of time trying to get through the overwhelming amount of products they have to find what is right for me. Moreover, if I have tried them, I will mention my experience and of course gush about my holy grails, but I will share any negative experience as well.Paula’s Choice is a skincare company that launched in 1995 after Paula had gotten international recognition for being a bestselling beauty author and calling out big skincare brands in broad fucking daylight. She at the time prioritized being open about ingredients, using sustainable packaging, and using the most efficacious and proven ingredients to get the job done. The company has been sold up to three times since, however, and is now owned by Unilever, who also owns Dermalogica. For better or worse, Paula’s Choice has embraced many of the things she used to rally against, such as eye creams (which they insist only have only been listed due to high customer demand) and needlessly overpriced products, and should more or less be separated from this crystal clean image. They are still a top quality brand with tried and true formulas, and they still do a great job at informing the customer, but they only inform the customer as much as their marketing lets them now. Here is their own timeline of how the brand came about, but I will go over some important milestones. In 2000, they launched their BHA Exfoliator that we have probably all seen at this point. This was a game changer, and has been replicated in many products since. They have since added many more options for BHA, which I will list later on. In 2002, they launched their Ingredient Dictionary, which is an amazing resource for learning about ingredients. As with all education resources on skincare sites, just remember that skincare is a huge industry and consider the source. Either way, this was a very smart move of transparency, and I believe it is still one of their strongest assets. In 2008, they launched Beautypedia, which is genuinely a laughable site and I would discourage you from checking it out. It may have been reliable at one point, but it is now a Paula’s Choice circle jerk and they put down every single other brand I have checked out on there. It is hilariously biased, and is one of my least favorite parts of Paula’s Choice’s brand. I would also be willing to bet that they will quietly update reviews for other companies owned by Unilever, but I will not be checking in.They are now a website with a bit too many products, and a line for every single type of skin you could really think of (except maybe people of color with their sunscreens 🙁). For instance, they have a CALM line for sensitive skin, a RESIST line for dynamic anti-aging concerns, a DEFENSE line to enable your skin to protect itself from environmental stressors, and a CLEAR line of products to aid in fighting acne. They also have a few lines with fewer products, as well as a good many products that explicitly don’t have a line. In this post, I will just be reviewing the RESIST line.RESIST: This is perhaps their most varied line, as it covers those with dry and oily skin pretty well. Their lighter blue RESIST products are typically meant for oilier skin, and their darker for dryer. They base most of their formulations in this line (and in general) on the efficacy of antioxidants in fighting sun damage, protecting the skin from free radicals and future sun damage, and healing skin. They have an anti-aging line within this line, but I won’t be covering that because I think needlessly upcharging people for anti-aging products is shady at best and ageist at worst. There are two cleansers in this line, and they are both focused on thoroughly cleansing the skin while retaining moisture and balance, though I do find their cleansers are typically very foaming and rough from the ones I’ve tried (the CALM and the CLEAR). The Optimal Results Hydrating Cleanser for dry skin would be your go-to here if you want a thorough cleanse, but you have dry skin to begin with and need to keep your moisture barrier in check. Looking at the ingredient list, it has some light cleansing agents with a focus on soothing antioxidants and emollients. The Perfectly Balanced Foaming Cleanser is the stronger of the two, destined for oily skin, and is focused on cleansing your skin of sebum and reducing pore size. This one has three ceramides, arginine, and aloe extract; so you really could do worse as far as formulations go. The hydrating cleanser is definitely better for sensitive skin, though; and while those calming ingredients help prevent the foaming cleanser from disrupting your skin barrier, I would still beware if you have sensitive skin since this is a wash off product and those skin soothers won’t have nearly enough time to sink into your skin. If what you need is a thorough wash, though, and you’re looking for a nice, calming formula, then the foaming cleanser would be great! There are two toners: The Advanced Replenishing Toner and the Weightless Advanced Repair Toner. The first is their highest rated toner (on their site that is), and is a combination of antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and some nice hydrating ingredients. Looking at the ingredient list, I really don’t understand why this is their top rated, but I’d love to hear what people have to say. The second one is one of their more promising, albeit short toner ingredient lists. Its primary ingredient toted is niacinamide, but I think it is also worth mentioning willow bark extract (a natural BHA whose concentration is undisclosed as far as I know), retraversol, and licorice root extract. The willow bark extract isn’t going to go quite to the lengths salicylic acid would, but it is a solid BHA for people with sensitive skin. This toner is meant to absorb right into the skin, and should help with inflammation and clarity. They also have two serums in this line, The Super Antioxidant Serum, and the Ultra-Light version of the same serum. Again, the dark blue/light blue dry skin/oily skin combo is at play here. Both of these are a collection of antioxidants, but they surprisingly have very different ingredient lists. The normal, dark blue serum is a vitamin c-driven antioxidant serum with ceramide NP and dimethicone towards the top of the list, whereas the lighter version is a hyaluronic acid and niacinamide driven antioxidant serum with dimethicone and sea whip extract. Their serums are horribly overpriced, and I would avoid them. You can find much better serums with antioxidants on the market for cheaper, in my opinion. There are three moisturizers here, and two of them are in darker blue packaging signifying dry skin. They both are focused on repairing your skin barrier, but both have retinol which is interesting. I understand that retinoids can have a firming effect, but I wouldn’t really recommend it as a star ingredient for barrier repair. Both of them are at a .01% concentration, though, so I would be curious to see some studies on the effects of retinol at this very low percentage. Either way, the Skin Barrier Repair is an emollient moisturizer with glycerin, ceramide NP, and licorice and green tea extracts. The Intensive Repair Cream is a bit more of an oily cream with Jojoba oil right up at the top. This cream seems a bit more preoccupied with using skin soothing extracts such as watermelon, licorice, green tea, apple, soybean, and lentil extracts. This is a neat ingredient list, and should honestly smell really nice, but if you have any sensitivities to fruit extracts, I would avoid this one. The light blue moisturizer is called the Anti-Aging Clear Skin Hydrator, and is more of a gel than a cream. It also opts for vitamin C as its active as opposed to retinol, and completes this skin brightening effect with Niacinamide. As far as moisturizers go, this is very basic, though, and considering the price point I would opt for something else that is friendly for oily skin.Okay guys these are the ones I’ve tried! I became obsessed with their sunscreens earlier this summer and have sampled almost every single one. There are two in this line, and they are pretty different. The Skin Restoring Moisturizer with SPF 50 is the dry skin option, and this is one of my favorite sunscreens for a good glow. It reminds me of the same finish as the dewy moisturizer from Tatcha, which is a compliment if you have dry skin. It can, however, be a bit much for people who are looking for a matte finish with their sunscreen. The active ingredients are Avobenzone 3%, Homosalate 5%, Octinoxate 7.50%, Octisalate 5%, and Oxybenzone 5%; so this is for sure a chemical sunscreen! This burns my skin just slightly, and my friend whom I gifted it to while we were vacationing (he didn’t bring SPF to the desert!) reported the same experience. Also, I would caution against sunscreens containing both Avobenzone and Octinoxate as Octinoxate tends to catalyze the degradation process of Avobenzone in direct sunlight, thus necessitating reapplication. This is a silicon and shea butter driven moisturizer, and has some stellar ingredients in niacinamide, aloe leaf juice, and licorice, coffee, oat, and apple extracts. If you have low sensitivity to chemical sunscreens and are looking for a solid formula for dry skin or just a healthy flow, then this is your girl. Their second sunscreen in this line is their Super-Light Wrinkle Defense SPF 30, which is their only SPF composed of only zinc oxide (13%). To compensate, it is tinted, but I would warn BIPOC against this one as its tint is too bright for even my tanned white skin sometimes. If you are off-white/olive/slightly tan, though, this gives some great color correction. There is also some evidence behind tinted sunscreens providing better protection against blue light. This leaves a very matte finish on the skin, and I often will layer it under another SPF for a more glowy complexion. Zinc oxide also provides some oil and sebum controlling qualities that make this a solid choice for people with oily skin in addition to the finish. The ingredient list focuses more on antioxidants such as vitamin c and retraversol, and I believe is the first item in this line so far without a drop of glycerin. I use this one often, and my “glassy skin” routine needs its color correcting qualities. The fact that a full size is 2 ounces, however, is an issue, and I believe it goes against Paula’s original mission of sustainable packaging. I don’t see this changing, but considering they are popular for choosing basic but efficient formulations, they should realistically have better price points than they do. And that’s just in America! They have even crazier pricing abroad. To get these items at decent prices, though, just be patient. They have sales almost all the time, and I would make good use of free shipping passes from their rewards program and/or free shipping promotions to try out their travel sizes, most of which are actually reasonably priced. They also have one of the more flexible return policies I’ve seen in the skincare world, so I would make use of exchanges on products that don’t work for you. I never buy anything without a promo or a gift card, and I’ve managed to score some solid prices on their site. Avoid buying elsewhere as many of their approved retailers like Sephora NEVER have sales! Rude tbh. They are also running their Anniversary sale right now, and I sometimes see the whole website marked down 20%.So that’s it! They also have some exfoliants in this line, but I will be doing that in my next review, where I will go through the exfoliants in general. In the meantime, let me know your experiences with this brand and what you think in general!

[Misc.] Why is it that my skin is better when I'm sick?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
And by sick I don't mean a common cold runny nose but still doing daily tasks type of sick. I mean severe flu, stay in bed except when it's time to go to the bathroom, can't stand on your feet type of sick. All acne seems to clear and pores unclog everything just looks great after a few days of that. How so? Is it only me?

Etiquette for wearing pimple patches at work? For anyone who has done it or just has seen people with them on in public, what are your thoughts? Is it unprofessional? I have some terrible red ones right in the middle of my eyebrows and to me it's easier to look at my face with then on. [acne]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So like I said to ME it looks easier to look at my face in the mirror and so MAYBE it's the same effect on people (people don't want to look at my zits. I already have it bad all around my jaw but it's easier to live with as it's not the center of my face)I guess I just wanted to know if you have worn them out in public, particularly work, and what did you think and did people look at you weird? I mean it saves people from staring at the redness and just opaque dots. Or for people not dealing with acne and seen them on people, did you look at them weird? Sorry I know I sound terrible but when it comes to my acne I get really insecure.I just started the Alba acne dote pimple patches. What is you favorite? Do they have different strengths? Thanks so much for any help in advance!Edit: I'm wearing them to work tomorrow now because of all the positive feedback. Thank you all!!!!! Sorry I didn't thank you individually.

[PSA] Curology Will Write you a Normal Tret Prescription

Beauty Tips For Body Care
My Curology provider just offered to send a tret prescription to my pharmacy. Some people anecdotally report that they don't think they got as much out of their Curology prescription as a normal tret prescription. My normal dermatologist didn't want me to go from 0.025 tret right to 0.1% tret but Curology don't give a damn. That's probably not a suggestion but come on I already put my skin through hell 0.1% tret is a walk in the park for it.Probably the cheapest way to get tret (other than, like, you know), I've been with Curology for 3 months and given them like $60, I imagine you could just call a normal dermatologist to get it renewed but if you were to cancel Curology obviously you couldn't.Maybe I'm late to the party but I was super happy with that result.I hate their marketing and don't want to sound like a shill, their moisturizers and cleansers are shit, the body wash is absolutely incredible but really really expensive and comes in a terrible bottle.http://imgur.com/gallery/r0jKPb3

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/nvwkhc/skin_concerns_looking_for_assistance_fighting/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmfA few weeks ago I posted in this sub, voicing concerns about my back acne.I have since then been using a slightly different routine, and I have already noticed a massive difference. To treat my back acne, I do the following:In the AM, I shower and cleanse using a flannel. I start with a Biore witch hazel cleanser (https://www.superdrug.com/Skin/Face-Skin-Care/Cleansers/Cleansing-Gels/Biore-Witch-Hazel-Pore-Cleanser-200ml/p/796472), and then follow it up with Acnecide 5% Benzoyl Peroxide gel (https://www.boots.com/acnecide-gel-30g-10187571). I let this soak into my skin whilst I cleanse non-problem areas. After several minutes, I finish with a basic L’Oreal body wash (https://www.boots.com/loreal/loreal-men-expert/loreal-paris-men-expert-black-mineral-shower-gel-300ml-10261630p) which contains a small amount of salicylic acid.I tend to exercise in the morning, and therefore shower after my workout. If I’m not working out, I’ll do this first thing. In the PM, I don’t cleanse. I simply apply TO Mandelic Acid 10% + HA (https://www.boots.com/the-ordinary-mandelic-acid-10--ha-30ml-10279243). I massage this into the problem areas, and let it absorb for 25-30 mins. Finally, I finish up with a basic Cetaphil body moisturiser.I’d share some photos, but I sadly can’t find any ‘before’ pics, which would devalue the ‘after’ pic. Thanks for all the feedback and advice on the first post! I couldn’t have done it without you amazing bunch.BodegaEdit #1 - This was posted via mobile device. Added links to products.

[Skin Concerns] Best skincare products for sensitive/acne prone skin?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi guys!! Okay so lately I’ve been really slacking on my skincare and I need to get back into it lol. For reference I'm 24F (I’m going to be 25 soon so I think that’s why I got to kick it into gear) Anyways here’s more about my skin- my skin is SUPER sensitive and very prone to redness. Like, so sensitive that usually every time I try a new product I get a horrible reaction. So unfortunately it’s really hard for me to find new products. Also my skin is pretty fair and prone to sunburns lol. I wouldn’t say I have horrible acne or anything but I do get pimples and breakouts sometimes. I also have struggled with blackheads for years (mostly on my nose, some on my chin). My pores are kind of visible too on my cheeks and I really wanna help with those as well. I also have these tiny bumps on certain areas of my skin like my cheekbones and under eyes. I think it’s called fungal acne but I’m not 100% sure! I guess my main goal is just finding products that cater to those issues and clearing my skin up, while also protecting it and keeping it hydrated. I am trying to drink more water as well which will maybe help. If anyone has any similar experiences or could help in any way it would be greatly appreciated!! Sorry this was kind of long, thank you for reading if you did! :)

I carry chapstick 24/7 and wear Vaseline constantly since I was 12 I mentioned this to my doctor once and she brushed it off saying to just moisturize them but it’s been 9 years and my lips are still completely messed up where do I go from here? [PSA] 10 tips for consuming skincare evidence (and how to avoid the hogwash)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi, friends who love skincare. Lately, there have been a number of posts highlighting or discussing research around skincare. Some of the claims in these discussions have been erroneous at best, so I wanted to share some insights that I hope will make all of us more shrewd consumers of evidence. First, a disclaimer: I am NOT a dermatologist and I have no specialized knowledge of skincare whatsoever. However, I am completing a PhD in population health so I do know a thing or two about health research. Here are some tips I've brainstormed that I hope are helpful for all of us who just want to follow the evidence and do right by our lovely faces:PubMed and Google Scholar are just search engines. Like any search engine, these have more useful results and less useful results. A study appearing on PubMed is NOT a guarantee of quality. I often see posts here that make a claim and then link to PubMed as if the claim is now gospel. Sadly, it typically is not. While these databases are excellent sources of information, they are simply tools. You must do the quality control yourself (or rely on someone you trust).Studies are not all created equal. There are good studies and bad studies. There are good researchers and, well, less good researchers. As a frequent publisher of research and a regular peer reviewer, I can tell you that peer review is also, sadly, no guarantee of quality. Are most researchers acting in good faith to generate accurate and reliable knowledge? Yes. Do people ALWAYS act in good faith? No. Do people often make big mistakes even when doing their best? Absolutely. There are many terrible studies that have gotten through peer reivew. One study tells you very little in most cases. Do not rely on any one study. Typically, a wide body of evidence is needed to generate credible claims. Multiple studies from multiple teams build off of one another to provide some confidence that something is true. This interplay between studies is an important part of the scientific process. It’s how theory is built. Sometimes studies align with one another, and sometimes they contradict. Good scientists are always looking for ways in which they could be wrong. If you’re interested in learning more about why you shouldn’t trust one study, Google the “replication crisis” in social science research. Spoiler: The results of many landmark studies cannot be re-created using the exact method, and sometimes even the exact data. Yikes.Consider generalizability. Studies are deisgned to apply to very specific outcomes in very specific populations. Good studies acknowledge this and explain to whom they can “generalize” the results, and what other information is needed to extend the findings to other groups. Was this study conducted in a community or location similar to yours? Did participants have skin like yours? Even if the findings are persuasive, they still may not apply to your specific situation.Always look for competing interests. Most journals require declaration of interests. Often, this is incredibly informative. Who funded this study? Where else do these researchers get their bread buttered? Researchers are basically self-employed in many circumstances, and often have to raise grant money to fund their own salaries. Consider who they might want to appease, either implicitly or explicitly. Even when conflicts are disclosed and researchers do their absolute best to remain objective, bias may creep into the research process.Be a skeptic of evidence posted on reddit and other social media. People make some wild claims on here, often saying things about research methodologies that sound highly technical (and therefore, seem quite credible), but are often deeply incorrect. Sample size, power, and study design are areas where people tend to make inaccurate claims.Trust a diverse array of experts! I love dermatologists and I have learned so much from them (RanellaMD anyone???). But dermatologists are not necessarily taught to produce or consume research. Many are shrewd readers who stay up on the literature, but some may not, or may simply overlook weaknesses in a study. The point is you should also listen to other experts, like chemists, formulators, aestheticians, or anyone else you trust. This is why LabMuffin is such a great resource in addition to derms. A diverse group of sources is the best way to triangulate information and get the evidence you need.If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. This helpful idea comes from Bayesian statistics, which suggests that stranger claims must meet a higher standard of evidence to change your prior beliefs. It’s also common sense.Be wary of confirmation bias. In this same vein, be aware of confirmation bias, in which we discount information that goes against what we already believe and seek out sources that affirm our preconceived notions. Try to take in information as objectively as possible; look for rigorous claims that contradict what you already think.Don’t discount your experience. Trust yourself and weigh what you know against new information.I am sure many of you have excellent tips I have missed. In the spirit of science, please weigh in with your own strategies and suggestions. Sorry for the long post. Please go forth, research, and conquer!tl;dr Be a critical consumer of evidence. A link to a study is not enough—demand more!

[misc] [acne] Camping/outdoors traveling

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi all!! I love my skin care routine and I am wondering if anyone else experiences struggles or snags or complications in traveling with their skin care routine. Do you cut down and bring your favorites/essentials, or something else?Does anyone have any cool tips or tricks? My main concern is tending to my acne-prone skin and packing for camping/outdoors trips where I have limited access to sinks and/or bathrooms with running water. This leaves me with less opportunities to wash my face and it’s hard to mentally accept that when I’m outside all day and night in dirt and sunshine. I still want to enjoy an outdoors life and try to maintain clear skin.Any tips or tricks out there for us outdoorsy folx that also embrace a skin care routine? Thanks in advance for your guidance and insights!

[Skin Concerns] What are these spots on my face (mostly the cheeks bother me) and how can I address it? I know very little about skincare but I have been reading this sub the last few weeks. I recently started using a cleanser, moisturizer/sunblock (20spf), and vitamin c serum. Will that work?

I used my extraction tool and opened a flood gate! [Acne]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey guys! Was trying to find a post with a similar experience but had no luck. The other night I went in with my extraction tool to clear some clogged pores on the side of my nose, and I got a lot of them! So many that the side of my nose now looked smaller that the other. Last night I could see a few spots that were "filling up" and I was like "oh no you dont!" And went in to get those spots. Then one of the pores shot out clear liquid onto my mirror which was new and then I noticed clear liquid just pouring down the side of my nose, like if you drained an oozing cyst but it was just sebum fluid, no blood or puss. There wasn't a bump when I went to it, I could just see the big pore looked like it had started filling a little but what happened took me by surprise. Now im wondering if there are more "pockets" like this on other parts of my face and what I can do to drain them safely. I have HORRIBLY oily skin at 28 years old and I've been using Epiduo but haven't been consistent if im being honest. Im also taking a blood thinner off label to help with my hair falling out and reduce oil production.I want to get this oily skin under control but I don't want to damage my skin and cause any major scaring. My nose hurts soooo freaking bad from me getting way to into it but the anxiety about getting it out makes me continue 😰

Anybody else unable to put on anything other than spf in their morning routine? [PERSONAL]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
From what I see a lot of people(who do skincare) will have at least another moisturizer in the AM, or like a toner. From my experience (back when I tried to do a bit longer of a routine) anything I would put on under spf would in a way cause me to break out more or get oily over the day. I remember trying to do a niacinamide serum or like a moisturizer. So now when I remember watching Emily Mariko or James Welsh or any other influencer that would show their AM routine I think, how can some people put on that much product and not get super oily? And iirc James even says he is oily.I am aware that skincare is personal. So people from both ends of this spectrum, what are your experiences?

[MISC] Our Obsession with Cancelling and Hating should Stop

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I might get downvoted for this and receive some hate comments, but I’m going to be brutally honest. I’ve lurked on this sub for a while, and I’ve noticed the increasing hate towards Hyram. I’ve watched his content before he got famous to pass the time, and although I’m not a big fan of his, I was happy that he was able to educate at least a little bit of the clueless people out there about skincare. Now, I agree that you can be dissatisfied with some of the things he does and says, and it’s perfectly reasonable to offer some comments clarifying the reasons you dislike him. But some of the comments are not even reasonable at this point, and they’ve become increasingly abundant.I’ve encountered people saying, ‘I hate his ugly face and fake smile’, ‘I hate seeing his face everywhere.’‘He looks like the type of person to bully people in school’.These comments are just unnecessary, and mean. If you’re going to express your feelings about why you dislike a person, at least be rational and think before saying something.I, myself, am not pleased with some of the things that Hyram has done, but that doesn’t give me an excuse to express so much hate with rude insults and waste my time bashing on a guy online that you know is more successful and makes a lot more money than you do, whether you like it or not.

[PSA] Manage. Your. Expectations.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Some of the people on here need to realise something: your skin will NEVER be perfect. Skincare is not something you should be shelling out hundreds on every month just to fit the new trends or try to fix the smallest problems. Relax a little. Progress not perfection. A lot of people have an incredibly unhealthy obsession with skincare, it's a hobby to make you feel better, not something that should be an addiction. Being afraid of the sun because you may naturally age? It's ridiculous, enjoy your life please. A 46 step routine ISN'T going to make you beautiful, it may reduce your skin concerns, but it's only going to hurt your bank balance along with your mental state. Remember, your skin problems are natural as well. PLEASE relax a little, don't feel the need to conform to expectations set by those who have endured laser treatments, being caked in makeup and likely some photoshop. Is this a rant or a PSA? I dunno. I just get really annoyed on this sub and ESPECIALLY in Hyram comment sections sometimes. Thanks for reading and remember wear spf before going to bed and wake up every hour to re apply

I've been playing games more often lately, and despite sanitizing my headset's ear pads regularly, I notice that I still break out a bit near that contact area. I'm baffled because you commonly see streamers with long hair wear their headsets over their hair for hours on end. I know they can use filters and makeup, but still! [Sun Care] Why do Europe and Asia have so many more sunscreen filters than the US?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
My current sunscreen is ok but pretty heavily fragranced, so I starting looking into a replacement and researching the different filters. I'm seeing that some of the best UVA filters are things like Tinsorb and Uvinal - seems like they've been available in Europe and Asia for quite a while but aren't approved in the US.I'm a little curious why they aren't allowed here - are there safety concerns with these ingredients or is there some other reason?

[Misc] No/Low Buy Thread - (June 2021)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
What is No/Low Buy?The No/Low Buy threads are a place for those of us who are limiting our spending to share our goals and support each other on our no/low buys.It can be difficult to resist the pull to over-purchase skincare items, especially when you see other people rave about a certain product. But together we can motivate each other to keep going, share tips & tricks, and support others who are on the no/low buy train! You can participate in this thread however you'd like (except gushing about all those new things you purchased!). If you need some ideas on what to talk about, the Goals and Check-In sections have questions to get you started :)New threads are posted on the last Wednesday of each month. GoalsIt's helpful to have a goal in mind before setting out on your no/low buy journey, so leave a comment and share what your goal is! Do you want to limit yourself to a specific budget? Do you want to stop buying new items entirely? Are you only allowed to buy a specific product? If you want to dig a bit deeper, you can share WHY you want to do this. What's your motivation? There will come a point in this process where you want to cave, so formulating a clear reason about why this is important to you will help you stick to your guns. Check inHave you needed to adjust your goal? Was your no-buy/low-buy resolution sorely tempted? How did you deal with that? Do you need some support to help you stick to your guns?Have you found a good tip to help you stay on budget?Do you have a victory to share?Did you cave and buy something you didn't need?Do you need a "talk me out of"? How to participateWe'd really like everyone to feel comfortable participating in this project! So if you don't exactly know what's expected in this thread, here are some wonderful things you can do:Join in the discussion by sharing your goal and answering the check-in questions (this helps others, because people reading it might recognise themselves in what you're sharing)Share tips and tricks about how you manage to reduce impulse buys and emotional spendingCongratulate others on their victories and express empathy with the things they struggle with NotificationsIf you'd like to be notified of new no/low buy threads, you can follow this collection! [Review] Geek & Gorgeous C-Glow Initial Impressions (Canada)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I was looking to incorporate a vitamin C serum into my routine. Personally, I prefer l-ascorbic acid rather than derivatives. I've used the By Wishtrend Pure Vitamin C 21.5 Advanced Serum before but it wasn't something I could use daily as the concentration was too strong for me. I've also used the Drunk Elephant C-Firma Vitamin C Day Serum (gift from my sister) but I wanted a less expensive alternative.I found out about Geek & Gorgeous from this sub. They're based in Hungary.Link to Shop: https://geekandgorgeous.com/Order:C-Glow (15% l-ascorbic acid with ferulic acid and tocopherol) - €10.50 ($16.19 CAD or about $13 USD)Shipping: €18 ($27.75 CAD or about $23 USD)Total: €28.50 ($43.94 CAD or about $36 USD)Timeline:June 19 (Sat) - placed my orderJune 21 (Mon) - order was shippedJune 24 (Thurs) - arrived today (I'm in BC)First Impressions on the Package and Product:My order was packaged well. I was a bit worried that the serum would go bad in transit due to the heat but it arrived in perfect condition. Though if I knew about the upcoming heatwave when I ordered this on the 19th, I definitely wouldn't have purchased this. The serum is clear and I keep this in my fridge to prolong the shelf life.Similar to other water-based l-ascorbic acid serums, it smells like hotdog water. My face felt slightly tacky upon application but the serum layers well with other products.Notes:No BS Beauty on Youtube tested the pH and it was little bit above 3 which is in line with the product's claim of a pH between 3.2 and 3.4.They shipped using DHL Express so the package arrived within a few days. For Canadians: No taxes/customs charges upon delivery but my order was less than $20 CAD. Since they shipped via courier, taxes and other charges will be charged on anything above $20 CAD. https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/import/postal-postale/dtytx-drttx-eng.htmlOverall, there were no problems with my order and if I'm happy with product once this bottle is done, I would purchase from them again.By the way, I know the shipping is expensive but the overall cost ($43.94 CAD or $36 USD) isn't too far off or better than similar products (specifically water-based L-AA):Skinceuticals CE Ferulic (15% L-AA with tocopherol and ferulic acid) - $190 CAD before taxPaula's Choice C15 Super Booster (15% L-AA with vitamin E and ferulic acid) - $49 USD before tax (even with 20% off, this is $39.20 USD or about $48.22 CAD before tax) + shipping if your order is less than $49 USDBy Wishtrend Pure Vitamin C 21.5 Advanced Serum (21.5% L-AA) - $39 CAD before tax from Mikaela Beauty + shipping if your order is less than $65 CADTimeless Skincare 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum (20% L-AA with tocopherol and ferulic acid) - currently $46.99 CAD on Amazon Canada and $26.95 USD + shipping if your order is less than $50 USD on the official sitehttps://preview.redd.it/ca2ej9hp3d771.jpg?width=743&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c3096279f8004cac65deb6ff0624ae4a6b0b94dchttps://preview.redd.it/pmbx8tbu3d771.png?width=672&format=png&auto=webp&s=9d3cec110f4634cdbbc9ea109c35bdd5307bfc5f

[Routine Help] Retinol Question

Beauty Tips For Body Care
FYI I’m a 30/female with combo and sorta acne prone skinI had been using The Inkey List retinol serum for ~4 months (first retinol, had been using bakuchiol before). While I had an initial improvement in my skin, over the last month I feel like I’ve regressed - more acne, lines more pronounced, etc. I didn’t have an initial purge period, no changes in diet/stress/etc, and I’m wearing SPF more than before. My initial thought was that I needed to try a different retinol serum (trying Asarai, definitely social media influenced, unsure of potency), but my skin continues to worsen. Is this because I’ve switched to a less potent retinol? Or am I using a more potent retinol and going through a purge period? What retinol products do you love? Do I need something more potent?
