Beauty Tips For Body Care
Like many people, I've tried everything short of Accutane. What ended up working for me is not eating dairy and severely cutting back on sugar. These two things, BY FAR, have worked better than anything a dermatologist has ever given me, both medication wise and advice wise. They'll say that there is some evidence that diet is linked to acne, but that its not conclusive, but I swear to you antibiotics, nutritional supplements, perfect hygiene, sleep, stress management... nothing worked as good as abstaining from dairy and excess sugar for me. It's not very easy. A real willpower test, but for me it was worth it.The one thing that sort of helped besides dietary changes was fish oil supplements. They didn't help stop acne, but they did help reduce inflammation considerably, which is really helpful if you have cystic acne.Sidenote: when I say abstain from excessive sugar, I mean no soda, no orange juice, no cookies, no snickers, no cake and also no baked potatos (high Glycemic Load foods are the same as high sugar in terms of spiking blood pressure, look it up). I drank water, and had "sweets" like apples with peanut butter (highly underrated snack).I just wanted to give my two cents after fighting acne for the last half decade and finally finding my solution, partially due to this subreddit. Hope this can be of help to some people.

[Skin Concerns] Skin feels strange and tight when i put anything on. Help!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So this has been going on for about 8 months now. Every time I put ANYTHING on my skin it feels like there is something crawling on my skin. I have a weird heavy feeling on my nose bridge, and my eyebrows feels heavy. And when i put anything on for a long periods of time, for example if u put anything on morning and night, my skin begins to feels like its burning.I have tried to just put vaseline on my face but that also makes my face feel all fucked up.I have been to the doctor and she gave me a cortisone with sulfur but that did not do jack shit. My skin was perfect before all this happened and I can't be myself in front of others when my skin keeps tingling.I also tried to let my skin "heal" by not putting anything on but that makes my skin crack up and the cold weather makes my skin go hot instead :(Does anyone know any way i can deal with this? I live in Sweden and i am 20 years old if that matters.

[Product Question] my skin is reacting badly to makeup I have been using for over a year and I don't know why? Please read!!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have been using Maybelline matte primer and foundation for over a year now and it used to work great and I loved the product! But for some reason, I don't really know what's going on but it keeps getting flaky and falling off my face, no matter how many times I fix it throughout the day it doesn't go away. This is really making me upset and I feel ugly and gross because of this, it's been over a week and hasn't gone away.I wash my face with biore blemish fighting ice cleanser before I go to bed and when I wake up and put eucerin lotion on my face at night after I wash it. I will occasionally use a charcoal and black sugar mask by "Freeman feeling beautiful" for black heads and a cucumber mask from them as well for hydrating. I've been doing this skin care process for over 2 years and also had never had any problems with it!I have a history of impentago when I was in middle school, I'm currently a senior in high school. I haven't been to a dermatologist for this yet because I am unsure if my insurance will cover doing so. I did visit one about a year ago and was put on birth control to regulate my acne. I have been off of the birth control for 3 months because I was unable to continue the prescription without seeing a dermatologist to check in for it.I typically have oily skin with lots of black heads and white heads that also gets dried out really easily. I'm not sure if the cold/warm extreme weather fluctuations are affecting the dryness of my skin, and thus the makeup problem. Also, in the areas that it is the worst such as above my lip and the sides of my cheeks, it gets kind of tingly when I wear my makeup. And an hour or two after applying, I can feel the skin getting tighter/dryer (I'm not really sure) in the areas that it starts happening. It's never on my forehead or nose, always my check/upper lip/chin area.I don't know what's going on please help?? This is making me so upset, I have links to pictures of it below. Thank you so much!http://i.imgur.com/YfUYiKo.jpg http://i.imgur.com/5xk6pLS.jpg http://i.imgur.com/dM1nULN.jpg http://i.imgur.com/FDpAJhK.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ptZo8Vl.jpg

[Routine Help] Moisturizing while in shower? Is it dumb?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
For some reason I decided to use my facial moisturizer on while I showered. (Nivea Cream) and I feel like it spread so much better, and more evenly. It also feels less greasy and disgusting then when applying it dry.The only problem is that my hands are wet when applying it and I wash some of it off with water after. Is this getting rid of any of the good stuff? Is this similar to an oil cleanse?

[Skin Concerns]Kind of gross-dandruff/white little balls on scalp. Help!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I crossposted this in fancy follies but I figured since my scalp is my skin I might get some good advice here as well.My scalp and hair have these little whitish yellowish balls-almost like a whitehead you'd find on your face. I also have dandruff. I'm not sure what is causing this. I use sulfate free shampoo and conditioner and don't put any styling products in my hair. I also sometimes get really itchy at the bottom of my scalp and it gets kind of scaly. Basically, my hair and scalp is a mess. Before I go testing a bunch of products does anyone have any recommendations? I have gone to the dermatologist in the past and he didn't even look at my head and just gave me a prescription for some foam stuff to put in your hair after washing. (don't remember what it was). I probably should go to a new derm but I'm on a major budget right now so I'd like to get some advice here before heading back to the dermatologist. Thanks!

[Personal] If you're a guy and have shitty skin, it is better to just grow and manage facial hair?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I don't really like facial hair (it's sort of unattractive IMO) but my skin isn't the best. It's not like an acne problem but mostly it's red and blotchy (probably shaving everyday doesn't help). My facial hair grows fast enough where I have to shave every morning or look scruffy the next day.I've tried certain things but don't really feel like going to the trouble of finding the right product combo for my skin. Dermatologist would probably help but doubt that's covered by insurance.22/M/gay if that matters. I would totally rock some makeup if that was more socially acceptable.

[Sun Care][Humour] *cackling with self righteous glee*
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So this weekend my boyfriend, his family and I went to the Ren Faire. I was absolutely annoying from when we left at 7:30 am to getting in the gates at 10 am. I triple checked with EVERYONE in our merry party about sunscreen. They all used SPF 15 and scoffed at my SPF 70(I'm using BP as well so super necessary). "That's insane I don't want to come back paler" , "I have naturally olive skin I Don't need that", "I'm used to working in the sun, I'll be fine".I reapplied twice in 5 hours. They assured me they were fine and didn't need to reapply. So now I'm over here with my beautiful slightly sunned glow and they're all pulling aloe vera out of the fridge every hour. I think I win.

[skin concerns] Best skincare products for oily acne prone skin?!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Please help! I have quite oily skin and often get spots on my forehead and cheeks with blackheads on my nose and chin.I currently use the Clinique anti blemish 3 step system with the sonic brush which just doesn't seem to be helping anymore!! I've also tried antibiotics to help with the spots but these don't seem to be working either. Can anyone recommend any good products to help at all?! I live in England so only products that can be purchased here please. I'm not particularly fussed about price range as long as it helps, but please nothing extortionate or extreme!

[Skin concerns] Help - I shaved what I should not have. Ingrown hairs.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I had a dumb moment and shaved ... my ass. Without taking into consideration that I'm a student who spends 10 hours or more a day sitting. Obviously, I got a ton of ingrown hairs and now sitting is painful. How can I speed up the healing process here? I've been putting benzoyl peroxide on them, and considering buying stridex? Any help for someone with a painful butt?

[PSA] Perioral Dermatitis megapost + my story and a cautionary tale about cosmetics abuse
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have been a lurker of this sub for a long time and it has helped me immensely. One condition that I sometimes see pop up in posts is Perioral Dermatitis but it is never addressed in depth. Having amassed lots of information on it I thought a megapost would be useful. It's gonna be long so brace yourself! I'll try to format but it's my first post ever on reddit. This is a quite common skin condition though it is poorly understood. Because it has a variety of presentations it can easily be mistaken for hormonal acne, sebhorreic dermatits or even eczema. The one common factor is its placement around the mouth (that's what perioral means), though it can spread / appear around the eyes and in other areas of the face, like the nostrils. This is why it's also called Periorificial Dermatitis. The rash can have papules (red bumps with no pus) papulovescicles (oozing red bumps) and pustules (whitheads), and generally the skin looks red and irritated. Sometimes it comes with erythema (redness) which usually spares a thin border around the lips. It can be dry or oily, flaky on top of bumps and can flush kinda like rosacea. Basically PD is like the monster child of rosacea and acne, and doctor don't know exactly what causes it. See a good article with pictures from dermnetnz.org hereWhat are the suspected culprits?use of steroids either in cream or nasal sprayfluoride in toothpastesls in cleansers, toothpaste and other productsispopropyl myristatevaseline and petrolatum based productsabuse of cosmetics, creams, sunscreen, over-moisturized skinexpired or dirty productshormonal imbalance or hormonal contraceptivesirritants such as mint and cinnamon (sometimes found in lip balms)triggers in people with specific sensitivities can be gluten, sugar and alcohol, spicy foodsit can be aggravated by harsh wind and uv exposureunclear if correlated in some cases to demodex mitesSo what can one do about it? Firstly, because it can be triggered by many products, zero therapy. Zero therapy is also recommended during treatments. The following table has remedies shared by users on the left and therapy recommended by derms on the right. The home remedies are not reported in scientific literature but are a result of anecdotal evidence from people reporting their result on the internet. It's always important to try one thing at a time and patch test everything to avoid adverse reactions.Home remedies & natural treatmentsPrescriptionsapple cider vinegarsulfur face washzinc oxide or zinc pastetopical antibiotichydrogen peroxidemetronidazoleafrican black soapantifungalsnoble zinc bar soapazelaic acidcalendula creamoral antibioticdiluted tea tree oiltacrolimus & pimocrolimusprobioticsspironolactone or contraceptive pill with drospirenoneaccutaneMy StoryI have always taken care of my skin, but this sub cemented my love for skincare, to the point where my new year's proposition in 2015 was to wear sunscreen everyday. My skin is mixed/oily, sometimes acne prone, and I had a full skincare routine which for the first time made me proud of my skinPM:oil cleanser with emulsifiersuriage xemose face wash(not every day) AHA or BHA from Bravura Londonmoisturizer from UriageAM:face washmoisturizersunscreenmake upAt one point I was trying way too much stuff and slathering my face with products (got carried away, lol). I started having troubles coincidentally in summer when sunscreen application became more frequent. I suspect in particular Vichy Capital soleil which is the one I was using when the first bumps appeared. Also a rich foundation from MAC aggravated the pustules. They looked like angry chin acne, so I thought nothing of it and treated as such. After a while i realized the bumps formed a ring around my mouth and they were redder and more persistent than my regular acne. So i sent a picture to my derm which confirmed PD diagnosis. Treated with topical clindamicin for two weeks with success. Made the mistake of reintroducing make up and now 5 months went by, the PD is still there, it actually exploded, I went on doxycicline for 40 days, switched to Yaz pill from levonorgestrel pill. PD spread all over my face making me feel disfigured and miserable. Now I have finished the treatment with doxy, the PD is starting to look a little better and I'm afraid of using anything on my face. I learned in the process that my former pill was not working for me because I'm feeling much less depressed since the switch to yaz, and my pms symptoms improved A LOT. The results from the new pill should take 3 months to show according to my derm. Since my last visit she also prescribed an off the counter cream called Exfoliac by noreva which will take care of PIH. It has hyaluronic acid, BHA, AHA and ceramides, I have to use it twice a week along with topical clindamicin.Sorry for the uber long post but I tried to be as informative as possible. I'll be very happy if it helps anyone with PD or if anyone reading will learn from my mistakes that you should always be careful with overusing products. I think I was so obsessed with skincare that it actually hurt my skin. I look forward to hearing more suggestions from members of SCA in the comments! Please share your story and report what did and did not work for you. Here's an album with a before pic, a pic at my worse and one after I finished my course of doxy (few days ago). http://imgur.com/a/Q3sUl

[Sun care] Recommendation for a zinc SS that's not chalky?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
And is decent under makeup? And is easily available in Canada? International shipping fees etc here are stupid. I'd prefer to spend up to $25 CAD.I break out with everything other than one LRP product - anthelios ultra fluide , but hate the grease factor, even with that. Tried Ombrelle, too greasy on me.Skin is very happy, i.e. no breakout issues whatsoever with derma e's zinc ss. Except that it's pretty chalky and dry-looking : /Have had a bad time with SS with any amount of titanium dioxide. Weird tingling and irritation with oxybenzone, avobenzone, etc.Skin type: sensitive, mildly prone to hormonal acne and surface plugging, telangiectasias from rosacea (no acne from that), just very reactive to stuff. Skin isn't dry at all with no SS on. Though it might be a bit dull, from benzoyl peroxide (see below). Some mild melasma on forehead (possibly age related, or maybe it's because of photosensitizing stuff I've used in the past). Some discoloration from old acne scars. I really need a reliable, good, affordable SS that doesn't break me out :/Have I seen a doctor: yes, acne has been successfully treated by a derm with adapalene and benzoyl peroxide (tactuo) in the past. Currently using 2% salicylic acid with 5% bp instead, successfully, with contact-only (is on for 20 minutes, then removed). I know the BP is oxidizing and contributes to the dullness, but I need it :/ . I use a vitamin C serum (avalon organics) in the a.m. (I know I should add an exfoliant other than the salicylic acid, thinking mandelic acid.) derm recommended the LRP.

Arbutin - safe or not so much? I need some opinions on that. [Product Question]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I am currently trying to make up my mind about arbutin, I searched but I come across older links so I thought restating the question could be helpful. It really seems like a very controversial ingredient in cosmetics. Some say it is safe, others that there isn't enough research and it is too close to hydroquinone to feel safe. There are also people pointing out hydroquinone is not actually bad if you apply it topically and I am just so incredibly confused. Is it safe and is there enough data to support that? Also, my understanding is that unlike niacinamide, I can use products with arbutin with acids without flushing (a huge issue for me), right?

I know there have been studies proving that lauric acid (in coconut oil) kills acne bacteria, but what about jojoba oil (or one of its constituents)?

[Skin Concerns] What might cause new moles all over body in a short time period?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Over the past two weeks I've noticed several new moles that weren't there before. They aren't raised, just brown spots. Most of them are really small but I'm sure i didn't have them before. I've also noticed one of them on my face get darker, more raised, rougher & have hair growing out of it. I've noticed at least 5-10 new ones over the past few weeks and none of them look abnormal, but it's still weird. They're anywhere from my arms, legs neck etc. I haven't been in the sun much since last summer. The only significant change is that I was on lexapro for a few months and recently started tapering off and now I'm down to 5mg a day from 20mg... I've seen nothing online about that causing moles nor does it make any sense to me with my limited biology knowledge why an SSRI or discontinuation of it would have any impact on skin or pigments. It's not really bothering me but it is weird because I have no idea what may have caused it, seeing as I haven't had any changes in sun exposure in half a year. I haven't noticed any mole in particular look super abnormal (the one on my face is still minor despite changing) to suggest cancer, but should I see my doctor anyway? Here's a picture of what the new ones look like; nothing strange about them other than their rapid appearance all at once http://i.imgur.com/sq1iOFO.jpg (don't mine the KP)

[Discussion][Humor] How bad was your old skincare routine?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Here's my story: First of all, my skin is dry, acne-prone, and very sensitive. I'm so thankful that SCA has saved me from my old, foul ways. My daily cleanser was Clean and Clear Deep Exfoliating Scrub, and I would promptly follow with a handful of raw sugar scraped all over my face to "exfoliate my patches". After that, I would dry my face aggressively with a towel... I'm ashamed.Anyone else have some good stories to tell? :)

[Personal] My skincare routine has made me a better adult
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I noticed this tonight and had to share.Routine When I decided it was time for bed 6 months ago, I would have washed makeup off if I was wearing any, moisturized, brushed my teeth, and went to bed. Now I brush my teeth, wash my face, use my Stridex and then to get a decent waiting period, I go clean my living room and load the dishwasher. I then return to the bathroom to apply my AHA (every other night), then I go pick up anything else around my apartment before moisturizing. I even sanitized my cellphone tonight. So no matter how unproductive I was throughout the day, I wake up to a clean home the next morning.Laundry I use a pillow case, flip it over the next night, then replace it the following night and continue. If I use my benzoyl peroxide spot treatment, I'm forced to use my white pillow cases or my husband's white t-shirt. I also use a clean wahscoth to dry my face every time, and then use that washcoth to shower the following day. My skincare routine has forced me to pay attention to my laundry because I always need clean pillowcases and washcloths!Sun protection While trying to combat my acne, I now have a much better understanding of the importance of sun protection. While I'm clearing a breakout without BHA, sometimes AHA, and occasionally benzoyl peroxide, I know that if I don't wear sunscreen I will be left with bright scars on my face that are no better than the acne itself. Today I went to the park and wore sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and long sleeves. Last year I would have went out in a t-shirt and shorts without any sun protection. So thank you for constantly instilling the importance of wait times between checmical exfoliants, changing pillow cases, and sun protection to us newbies who come here searching for help. And while I'm at it, thank you all for everything. With your help, I started a routine in November and have learned so much since then. My skin isn't where I'd like it to be but it's getting better. I've been taking progress photos along the way in hopes of posting a before and after to share someday. For now, I'm enjoying this newfound sense of productiveness.

[Skin Concerns][Routine Help] Patch of tiny bumps on cheek (pics)
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi SCA,So last night I noticed this one patch of tiny bumps surrounding this cyst that is becoming less inflamed now. Still there today. It doesn't itch or anything, it looks slightly pink in colour. I hope it's not tiny clogged pores, ugh. I think it might be overexfoliation? link This is the first cyst I've broken out with since my 2nd course of accutane ended (June 2015). So I guess I went kinda overboard to bring it down. In addition to my normal routine, I treated it with clindamycin solution for a couple days but not on the entire area the bumps now are, so I really have no idea what could've caused this reaction. Only time I've ever seen tiny bumps like this on my skin in the past is after waxing it, but I never do that anymore so.... thoughts?? Thanks so much.Routine (with AM and PM distinctions): Bioderma Sensibo H2O (PM, to remove makeup) GoW Cleansing Oil (PM, to remove makeup) GoW Antibacterial Cleanser (AM + PM) Tone with GoW Hydrating Mist (AM + PM) Wait 15 min (only if applying exfoliants) Biologique Recherche P50, wait 20 min (PM only, before BHA) PC 2% BHA, wait 20 min (PM always, maybe 2-3 mornings a week too) PC BHA 9 to spot treat (PM only, just started this a few days ago) Apply GoW Serums, GoW HA + passion fruit seed oil (AM + PM) + GoW EAST organic shea butter (PM only) Toleraine Fluide (AM only) Sunscreen (biore watery essence) (AM only) Makeup (AM only, lol)For Routine Help: My skin type is oily/dehydrated. Routine aims to clear out the tons of clogged pores I have (that sometimes become inflamed) while fading PIH and maintaining hydration. My skin is so difficult, my acne isn't even bad it's just extremely resistant to treatments. I swear it only responds to accutane and even then it takes over 6 months to see results, first round I took I was on it for 8 months and I still had a cyst on my last month! AND my skin doesn't get dry or flaky on accutane, it's more "balanced" and my oily skin returns immediately after I stop taking it. Anyway, after my 2nd course my skin was sort of clear, just a lot of clogged pores and tiny pustules so I was using PC 2% BHA every night plus Retin A Micro 0.04% every 3 nights. This caused my skin to be really dry and flaky, the reaction you would expect from accutane, but my skin was pretty damn clear. I eventually got fed up with the extreme dryness and peeling because even though my skin was clear, it looked so flaky and horrible with makeup on, and I noticed more fine lines in my face which scared me because I'm only 20. I then tried to switch it up entirely with GoW products (around Nov 2015) and started breaking out more frequently than before. A couple months later, experimented a bit with different products, and here I am. I'm thinking of cutting out BHA and AHA for a while and using only Retin A for a few months but idk for sure, I'm just not really satisfied with my current routine.

[Misc] Daily 2% BHA compared to weekly 20% BHA ?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello everybody ! Both daily low concentration BHA exfoliation (e.g. Paula's Choice 2% BHA) and high concentration weekly or every two week peelings ( e.g. 20% Salicylic acid for 5min) give good results to many people. How do these two regimens compare to each other ?I reckoned that the daily low concentration use will be gentler and safer and makes more use of the antibiotic effect of BHA. Whereas the strong weekly peeling probably penetrates much deeper, thus exfoliating layers and stubborn imperfection that the lower concentration never reaches . And also having a higher risk burns andhyperpigmentation. Does this make sense or did I miss something ?Will the skin be more exfoliated after 1 week of daily 2% BHA or after one peeling of 20% 5min BHA ?What are the benefits and disadvantages of each way ?Thanks to everyone who can share more information about this. I searched many hours online, but could not really find sources addressing this.

[Acne] Is anyone else really sensitive to caffeine?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I always used to avoid caffeine because it would keep me up at night. My last job was near a restaurant that had free coffee every morning and I can't resist something that's free... It wasn't long before I noticed a lot more breakouts so I cut all caffeine and my skin cleared up.Recently, I learned the hard way that Barqs root beer has caffeine in it. It took about a week for the big, deep, unpoppable zits to show up and another week for them to go away.I wish it hadn't taken so many years to figure this one out!

[Product Question] Just started Epiduo and the skin around my eyes is super dry and stings SO BAD. Has anyone had this happen?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I just started Epiduo last week and it's already helping clear up my adult acne; however, it's really destroying the skin around my eyes and on my eyelids, even though I'm really careful about avoiding the area when I apply it.This morning i tried to moisturize the area (used Cerave in the tub) and MOTHER OF GOD it stung like millions of microscopic bees were attacking.Any ideas on what to use? The skin in my eye area is getting VERY dry so it needs moisture but I'm at a loss of what to use that won't hurt so bad.

[routine help] My "American Psycho" routine
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Alright, as a guy, I've got to admit that up until recently I've never so much as thought about taking good care of my hair/skin .For about 20-something years, they just sort of existed in a cycle of just washing them whenever they get dirty with what ever soapy product I had on hand. It wasn't until Christmas, when I received a plethora of body care items from my SO (a sign that I was doing something wrong, I'm sure) that I realized that looking and feeling good takes work.Through research and some trial and error, I've come up with a system that works for me and figured I'd share a simplified version of my morning routine for any guy who would like to try and take better care of their skin. (I've also added links to some of the products I've used, keeping in mind that most people, like myself, are on a budget and can't afford $100s of skin cream)As soon as I wake up, I apply a good amount of a clay mask (link 1) to my face, avoiding my lips, eyes, and beard, and go on about my morning as it dries. When it has dried, I get in to a warm shower and wash it off using only my hands.I then wash my face with a deep cleanser face cream (link 2) using a fine bristled brush (a sponge will also work) in a circular motion to clear out my pores. After that, I feed my skin (as well as my hair) with some coconut oil that I keep in the shower. This might seem strange, but coconut oil is extremely good for your skin and hair and as long as you rinse thoroughly in the shower you won't feel greasy at all. When I get out of the shower, I gently pat my face dry.The last thing I do before I leave the house is moisturize (link 3). This is really important and will help keep your face nice and soft throughout the day. If your moisturizer doesn't contain sun screen, be sure to apply some before you go out; spf 15 is fine, 30 if you really need it. Never under estimate the importance of sunscreen. My skin has honestly never felt or looked better, I'm a new man. I hope that this will help anyone who has no clue where or how to start off a skin care routine.link 1-http://www.amazon.com/Freeman-Dead-Minerals-Facial-Anti-stress/dp/B007CY2C76/ref=sr_1_14_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1456679501&sr=8-14&keywords=clay+face+masklink 2- http://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Oil-Free-Clean-Cream-Cleanser/dp/B000052ZB5/ref=sr_1_5_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1456679959&sr=8-5&keywords=deep+face+cleanserlink 3- http://www.amazon.com/MEET-BULL-DOG-Original-Moisturiser/dp/B00822YOIM/ref=sr_1_8_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1456680318&sr=8-8&keywords=mens+face+moisturizer

[Routine Help] Checking my routine with you guys, plus some basic questions
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I recently picked up a few products with the intention of switching up my skincare routine because I felt like I could be doing better than cleanse -> tone -> moisturize.AM:Micellar water (Good Things Acai Berry)Vitamin C serum from Dead Sea MineralsWait 20 minutesCeraVe AM moisturizer with 30 SPFMakeupPM:Micellar waterCleanse with Equate oil-free acne wash and a konjac sponge. (Admittedly, I do NOT like the fact that it has fragrance, so I'm open to switching this to a fragrance free gentle cleanser like CeraVe or Purpose, any other recommendations totally welcome)Vitamin C serumWait 20 minutesPC 2.5% Benzoyl PeroxideWait 15 minutesCeraVe moisturizerA little Cetaphil under the eyesMy questions:Is the micellar water a good addition to my routine, or pretty much useless? I JUST picked it up and decided that I liked it, compared to removing my eye make up with straight coconut oil and a tissue and the rest of my makeup with bargain-brand wipes. Is it unnecessary? Was I doing better with the coconut oil/wipe combo?I feel like there's an issue with my cleanser and that it might be irritating my skin. I've had a resurgence of painful cystic acne in the last couple of months and I'm pretty sure the cleanser I'm using might be either causing it or making the inflammation worse.I know I already use a chemical exfoliant, but I also use a konjac sponge. Is that overkill? I really like how my skin feels after I cleanse with it.How are my wait times? Sufficient for allowing my layered products to work and breathe in the right way?Should I be rinsing after the AM application of micellar water since I'm using a vitamin C serum immediately afterward?I'm using Cetaphil under my eyes because the eye creams/serums I USED to use dried my eye area so badly, it was cracked, flaking, and swollen. I feel like I need to lube up my under-eye with SOMETHING, but Cetaphil is what saved my under-eye from being an alligator and I'm scared to actually start using something that's meant for my eyes because the two previous products did some serious damaged after prolonged use. Any product recs?Thank you guys so much for your time, I know I have an abundance of potentially stupid questions.

[Skin Concerns] Tiny whiteheads around my mouth?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi Reddit,I've had this problem for quite a while now, and no matter what I do there's barely any change... Every morning I wake up to find tiny little whiteheads around my mouth and chin, sometimes more, sometimes less- but it's almost constant.A lot of the time these are small enough that there's barely any inflammation there and they come off with washing and exfoliating in the morning, but sometimes they get irritated and stay for days.My routine is pretty simple, just Cerave SA cleanser + konjac sponge and occasionally a turmeric or mud mask every few weeks.I don't have a picture at the moment, but it looks something like this

[Skin Concerns] Seborrheic Dermatitis completely cured with ACV (20, Male)
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I have been having SD for about 5 years, both on my face and scalp. Curing it on my scalp was easy, I wash my hair once a week with Skincap shampoo this one , I use regular everyday tea tree oil shampoo. However on my face nothing worked. I tried stuff from the pharmacy, tried every bioderma and laroche cream they recommend for sd, none worked. The peeling was still there, and the itchiness also. Then 3 weeks ago, I decided to dig deeper and saw how many people used ACV and it actually worked. I bought bio apple cider vinegar, raw and unfiltered. I apply it with q-tips every night, once a day. However since it's completely gone now, I might take a break and do it every 2nd or 3rd day, because I don't think it's healthy for a healthy skin to dry it with acid.Since I'm also a hairy male, I shave every 2 or 3 days. My skin is oily/greasy, so I use mattyfing moisturizer during the day. No irritation whatsoever.Product summarization: -Skincap shampoo once a week -Teatree oil shampoo for everyday-Raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar on a q-tip every night -L'oreal or Men-ü mattyfing moisturizer for the face every morning Shaving every second or third day -JACK BLACK DRY ERASE ULTRA CALMING FACE CREAM if it would dry out too much after applying ACV (Paula's Choice also have a really good moisturizer for SD skin) -Clinique oil control face wash after every shave -Clinique Aloe vera shaving gel before every shaveSD is completely gone now, and I really hope it to stay this way. Wherever I touch my skin, it feels soft and silky, no redness, no dry or sore skin, no skin peeling at all.ACV does burn a bit especially after the first few usage, but it's completely fine until your skin gets used to it.Hope I could help or make the thought in you stronger that you should try ACV as well.

[Product question] Which toothpastes do you all use? I'm looking for one that doesn't break out my lips.

I have been using this one for the longest time, and just began to attribute the zips all around my lips likely to the carrageenan in the product (5 on comedogenicity scale on cosDNA!).

[Skin Concerns] Started using product about 2 weeks ago, some areas getting worse? Mid-twenties male.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have horrible skin, but never cared much about it until now. Anyway my little sister said to just use cleanser+toner+moisturizer which is what I have been using routinely 2x per day (morning and night). The cleanser and moisturizer is BioTherm Homme and the toner is the Nivea Purifying.I've noticed my skin overall is more clear and bright, but my trouble areas (the middle of my face, in particular the nose) is seeing red bumps and irritation. The redness feels like a pimple from underneath but it hasn't erupted on its own yet. Is this normal for someone who has just started using product, or are the products just not right for me? Or do I need something stronger/lighter for my trouble areas? Thanks a bunch for your help.

[SKIN CONCERNS] Smelly sebum during every shower.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Every time I have a warm shower, if I rub my face just a little, my pores just seem to empty out. I'll get fingertips covered in (what I'm guessing is) sebum. It smells really bad. When I get out and dry off, my face looks like there are white flecks all over, especially in the areas where I have lots of large pores like the sides of my nose.I'm totally new to skin care. No one ever taught me about this as a teenager. I currently just wash my face with a mild cleanser every morning in the shower. No major acne, just lots of little bumps that are filled with white stuff (not bursting out, just little tiny bumps) and some blackheads near my nose and -- very strangely -- on the back on my ears and on my earlobes.I've read the FAQ and the Wiki and it's clear I probably need a better routine.I am also vitamin deficient because of ulcerative colitis. Not the greatest, but I read somewhere something about lacking Vitamin B6 can cause your body to produce more sebum? Not sure if that's a real thing.Thoughts?

[acne] Used a heated compress on a pimple some MONTHS ago, and the red bump still hasn't gone away!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So a few months ago I noticed a pimple beginning to develop on my cheek. I sometimes get some pretty nasty, scar-inducing pimples in that area so I wanted to be proactive and started looking for help online as soon as I felt it coming on. I found a website that suggested using a heated compress on the area multiple times a day. I work some pretty insane hours so I wasn't able to do it as often as the article suggested, but I did it a few times and it seemed to be making it smaller. The pimple skipped the puss/white head stage and just stayed small and red. Well here I am months later still with a noticeable red bump on my cheek. Wondering if there is anything I can do now to help it go away quicker.... Any advice is appreciated! Also this is my first post on this sub so let me know if you need more details!

[Acne] Is this Acne or..?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi Reddit,So I tend to get these really inflamed blemishes around my mouth. And just got one right below my lip, an area I haven't had something in years. Usually I just get them above my lip in my mustache area, although recently I got one just under my jaw line . Does anyone know if this is acne or something else? Pics below of when the whitehead was at its largest and after washing my face (drained on its own)http://imgur.com/a/o5sh8When I used to put benzoyl peroxide in the area in the past my mouth would dry out really bad and become inflamed from that instead...no matter how much moiusterizer I used. For shaving, I wash my face before hand and user a dual edge razor with badger brush. I use a fresh blade at least every two days and my shave cream is non-comedogenic.Thanks!!

[product question] moisturizer help
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey guys!I have developed hormonal acne out of nowhere. Apparently, I have an androgen excess. SO, I have been taking Aldactone (2x daily), Minocycline (2x daily), and Onexton face lotion at night. Surprisingly, it's working really well and my acne is definitely clearing up.-- not surprisingly, my face is peeling off.I have tried Cetaphil moisturizer and it breaks my skin out. The only kind of moisturizer that doesn't give me huge cystic acne breakouts is gel-type moisturizers.Does anyone have any suggestions for something that's not too light (most gel moisturizers are pretty light) that will help me from looking like I have Leprosy, but won't clog my pores or make me break out more?My skin is uber sensitive and I don't do well with stuff that has fragrance in it.Help??

[Routine Help][product question] If my face loves Aquaphor should I try more mineral oil?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have been increasingly stressed about my skin over the last year. I switched birth control and my face revolted. I don't want to switch BC back, so I've been trying lots of different products to deal.Glycolic acid seemed to work for a while, but then my skin started showing signs of over exfoliation so in a fit of rage, I just stopped everything. I kept removing my (very light) makeup with Garnier Micellar Water and just slipped some Aquaphor over my skin at night. It seemed to clear everything up SO fast.Should I be trying more mineral oil?! My face feels so soft and the acne is healing. Don't know if I should just thank my stars and leave it alone, or if something like Ponds, Nivea or straight mineral oil would be a good thing for me to try.Im also not really sure, is Aquaphor ok to use on your face every night or should it be more used for breakout/ healing purposes? I do hate the way it feels on my skin but I guess if it works it works!

[Misc] Found my HG moisturizer: Sebamed Clear Face Gel
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm speechless. I'm a 16 yo guy with oily skin and I can't believe the results. I was using Cerave PM previously and I never broke out or had any pimples as a result of using it, but I decided, for the hell of it, to try Sebamed since its gel formulation might be better for my oily skin.Wow! I've been pimple free for a while now, but I still felt like my skin looked a little dull and uneven. I actually purchased Cerave PM just for this purpose, due to its niacinamide. I used Sebamed for an entire week, and although it's a little light I find that my Elta MD Clear Sunscreen locks in the moisture, plus Elta MD has niacinamide that I would have otherwise missed out on from Cerave PM.The difference in my skin tone is unreal, I just look better. My pores look smaller, and my cheeks are completely even instead of having those weird little red lines. Even in my school's awful fluorescent-lighted bathroom mirrors, my skin looks great. I don't understand what ingredient is in Sebamed that could cause this. Maybe allantoin?Oil production has increased, but it feels healthy and natural. Before my cheeks would be a tad flaky, which makes no sense since Cerave PM is heavier and more lotion-y but it works! How could Cerave PM possibly dehydrate my skin? Not sure, but it did. I'm so happy to have found this moisturizer, and I'll be sure to stick with it. Thanks guys! Love this sub! Here's where it fits into my routine:AM:Wash with Cerave Foaming and waterTimeless Vitamin C + E + Ferulic Acid SerumWait 15 minutesSebamed Clear Face GelElta MD Clear SPF 46PM:Wash with Cerave Foaming and waterQueen Helene Mint Julep MasqueWash off after 15 minutesPC 2% Skin Perfecting BHA LiquidAlpha Hydrox 10% Glycolic Oil Free FormulaWait 15 minutesSebamed Clear Face GelVery thin layer of Aquaphor

[Hair Removal] Body Sugaring at home question
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have thick and very dark body hair. I have this body sugaring kit I got from an organic shop. It's my 3rd purchase already.I always don't get all the hair at first/second/third try. I emailed the company about it so they taught me step by step what to do. Still, my hair just don't stick on the sugar product that perfectly. I always end up plucking the remaining hairs which is extremely painful. I thought sugaring would minimize the pain so I won't need extra pain from plucking.Am I doing something wrong? Are some of you having the same issue like mine? There were times that there will only be like 5 hairs that get pulled from sugaring. It's too messy and such a waste of product. It's weird coz my hair strands are really thick, so I thought it's supposed to be more effective to me.

[Product Question] MUAC 12.5% TCA + sunny destinations in months following treatment
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone!I lived through my first (and hopefully last) bout of cystic acne last year, and have been dealing with some pretty intense discoloring and pitted scarring on my cheeks. I finally caved around the New Year and bought about $50 worth of MUAC products + $40 shipping. I'd never cough up that kind of cash for shipping, but your recommendations and experiences were pretty persuasive. Here's what Wendy recommended for me:_Niacinimide serum (2x day except on day of peels, and none for 48 in advance/ 2 weeks following TCA peels) _Mandelic/Salicylic peel (bought a sample) _TCA 12.5% if I decide I'd like a deeper peelBeing a rookie, I have stuck to the Mandelic/Salicylic peel for 4 weeks out of the 8 that she recommended (and am going to finish the round). It's a great product and a good peel to help your skin get acclimated to peels, but not a miracle worker for discoloration like the reviews made it out to be. I will finish this sample, and am preparing myself for the possibility of needing a TCA peel to get my skin back to normal-ish.Luckily, I'm a teacher and will have a 2-week break in April, and will have the month of May off. This will let me time the peels in such a way that I won't have downtime overlapping with classes.QUESTION (finally): I am aware that this is a pretty serious peel, and I'm taking the months after into consideration when thinking about downtime. I have heard that it is imperative to avoid sun exposure (which I do anyway) for a few months after a TCA peel of any percentage. I'm spending the summer in Turkey and am possibly visiting a friend in Israel in May. These are some sunny destinations. For those who have done a TCA peel and live in sunny places - were sunscreen (SPF 50) and a hat sufficient for you? (I wear those daily as it is.) The good news is that Turkey is hot in summer so I'm unlikely to spend time outside in the brightest hours of the day.I know TCA is the daddy of chemical peels and I am not taking any risks on this. Thanks in advance for the advice.TL;DR MUAC fan thus far on M/S, considering TCA 12.5%, will be traveling to sunny places in a few months, concerned about healing in months after and wondering if good sunscreen and a hat and avoiding sun will be enough to mitigate sunny destinations over next few months.

[Skin Concerns] Suddenly developed severe dry skin on face and back
Beauty Tips For Body Care
http://imgur.com/a/EWuKH PicturesA week ago I suddenly developed really dry skin over my back, chest and face. A while later I began getting what I think may be prickly heat all over my body, where there would be a wave of small pricking pains. During this time, my skin went into riot and I had a huge amounts of itchy and painful spots all over. When I wake up and get out of bed my skin is horrifically dry and flakey. My scalp is also very dry with loads of flakes all over. In the past couple of days my neck has flared up bad, becoming painful, sometimes moisturising it is impossible due to how it stings so much.I have ceased use of all products except moisturisers and a shampoo and I have also booked a doctors appointment.Reposted from here due to my skin getting worse. Thanks for any help.

[Product Question] Is white mineral oil ok for ocm?

Sorry but I really know nothing about this stuff and don't want to ruin my skin. also here in Ireland it seems impossible to find mineral oil in shops/pharmacy and baby oil is too harsh.

[Product Question] Where can I find 100% Tea Tree Oil?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have been trying for days to find 100% Tea Tree Oil. I have searched the forums here and on Amazon, but every review I see on Amazon is from a person paid to give a review or someone claiming that it isn't real tea tree oil. What should 100% tea tree oil smell like? If you use tea tree oil where did you purchase it?Also, I have Vitamin C & Retinol Serums from Art Naturals. Is this an okay brand? Finally, I know that you need a carrier oil to dilute the tea tree oil before use... Is Jojoba oil okay for that? What other oils could I use?

[Personal] [Anti-Ageing] Rave - my under eye area is the best it has ever been! I just have to share.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm 29 and have acne prone, very oily skin. My under eye skin, however is dry and sensitive after cleansing/make up removal. I just wanted to share what has fixed this: Paula's Choice Hyaluronic Acid Booster and PC Moisture Boost Hydrating Treatment Cream.Oh my gosh. The skin there is just so supple, soft, smooth and nary a fine line to be seen. Concealer glides on. A runner up that gave similar results is Moo Goo Anti-Ageing Cream with Resveratrol (cheaper at $34 AUD than the two PC products, which are something like $79 AUD together). I know the under eye area is of concern for a lot of people, so I thought I would share. I know the PC products seem expensive - and they are. But I use so little that I expect both to last me a full 12 months. For those who are interested, a cheaper HA serum is available from SR Skincare in the UK (they ship internationally), for around $8 US. The Moo Goo Anti-Ageing Cream with Resveratrol is the cream I would recommend as well.

[Skin Concerns] I got my eyebrows waxed, and my skin looks entirely burned (pictures). Will my skin recover?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello, everyone. My skin has a tendency to get pretty irritated every time I get my eyebrows done, but this time seems a little more concerning. It looks as if I was burned.Taken immediately after with a flash: http://i.imgur.com/l2MUfp0.jpgTaken a few hours later in bright room: http://i.imgur.com/gSjfAgB.png (Pardon my moisturizer.)In the past, my skin has healed fine from brutal redness. Past example:http://i.imgur.com/SJF1BKz.pngHowever, this time (first set of images) seems pretty extreme. I'm sort of freaking out that it won't heal properly. I've been moisturizing like crazy, but beyond that, I'm not sure there is much I can do.I still feel a burning sensation 3 hours later (moisturizer may be contributing; burning happens when I moisturize my skin ordinarily).I know I will never wax my eyebrows ever again. I will do nothing but pluck from here on out. That being said, if these burns scar, I may just leave my eyebrows crazy in order to conceal whatever damage is left on my skin.Has anyone had similar experiences? Did your skin heal eventually? I got mildly burned one other time, and it took a few weeks to fully fade. But this burn seems large. . .

[PERSONAL] When I asked three actresses to take off their makeup (Video)
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi ScA,Thought I'd share this little video project of mine with you.Having grown up as a child actor, I developed a lot of issues with my appearance-- I couldn't accept my eczema, dark circles, or even freckles. I was ashamed of my face. For actresses, appearing on camera without makeup is an extremely vulnerable action. Their lives are defined by their appearance, so much so that they begin to view their own bodies as products to be branded. Revealing their faces to the camera and stripping away the mask they've come to rely on, they reunite with their true selves.I realized that a lot of women and men (in the industry and out) feel constantly under pressure to be perfect-- perfect skin being just one of the requirements. I made this video because I wanted to spread awareness about our own self-objectification, in an age where cameras are everywhere.I love ScA (which has all but cured my eczema), and I think it's sometimes important to step back and just evaluate the relationship we have with our own appearance. I hope the video speaks to you :)https://vimeo.com/156568028

[Sun Care] Looking for a UV skin scan in NYC - Help?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm very pale and am interested in getting one of those UV light facial scans to see if I have any sun damage. I'd rather not pay and I know that some spas and makeup stores do it for free (with the incentive to sell you lots of "cures"), but I have no idea where to start and my Google searches were fruitless. I live in NYC so I figure there's got to be at least a few here. Has anyone in the city done this recently or otherwise know where I can find one? I can't really spend more than $20, but free is my goal :)

[Sun care] Soltan Dry Touch Face Cream SPF 50+
Beauty Tips For Body Care
(This review is for this product. I hear Boots' other dry touch sunscreens aren't any good.)Background: I've tried a lot of high protection sunscreens (high UVA protection), and all of them had a major flaw that made it difficult for me to continue using on a daily basis. La Roche Posay's European sunscreens are all whitening and the cream version balls up. Bioderma is expensive, greasy, accentuates flaws, and leaves white streaks that show up later in the day. Biore's UV Bright Face Milk is very whitening (though it does leave the skin looking even-toned and poreless, like a good primer). Biore's Aqua Rich Water Gel is lightweight and has a lovely finish, but lacks UVA-I protection. And almost all of them are difficult to put make-up over (aside from Biore's Aqua Rich sunscreen). Then I found this sunscreen.Protection: Excellent. Contains, among other sunscreen ingredients, Tinosorb S and Tinosorb M and covers every part of the UV spectrum well (even the 380-400 nm range). It has a 5 star Boots rating, which means it should have at least a 0.9:1 ratio of UVA:UVB protection.Finish: Surprisingly lovely. It's not actually "dry touch", but it's not greasy either. It's more "creamy", in the way that a high-end moisturizer is. It doesn't leave the sort of greasy shine that makes your skin look uneven, but instead has a soft, dull, and I suppose dewy shine. It also leaves no white cast whatsoever--it blends in very easily.Moisturizing?: It locks in moisture quite well. I no longer need to use a moisturizer during the day. I do have to wear powder on top because I prefer a matte look to a dewy look, but it's not really necessary as this sunscreen isn't greasy.Price: Very reasonable given such high protection, but if you live in the U.S. like I do, it's hard to get a hold of and the shipping is expensive. I purchase it on the Boots website and then use a package forwarding service. To me, it's worth it because this is my HG sunscreen--it combines the benefits of the nicer finish of an American or Japanese sunscreen and the very high protection of a European sunscreen, and I finally find myself using sunscreen every day.

[acne] extremely local set of whiteheads
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello everyone, Here is a picture of a recent mess that my pores have made (http://m.imgur.com/EUtJK85). None of these feel cystic but they are just ready to pop up one after another. I recently stopped OCPs and then restarted. I went on doxy and I am on a b vitamin and folate. I just don't understand how they are limited to one side of my body, one area. I sleep on my back. Use OCM, hada labo hyaluronic cream, curology, tret/azelaic/niacinamide, occasionally Dennis gross alpha beta. Nothing seems to help.Any ideas? It's just so local and odd. Rest of my skin is clear.

[Product Question] How much is too much per day? Both for AHA and BHA. Is using 2% BHA 1x per day the same idea as using 1% 2x per day?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've asked a similar question in the past but I'd like to clarify in case the responses I got were assuming a 1x per day application. My old question was, how much AHA is too much daily? Most responses seemed to suggest anything above 8% is too much for every day use. I realized though, that many people use acids both morning and night, which would increase the total amount per day.So my new, clarified question is:-what is the max percentage I should be using if I'm only using an acid 1x per day? (how much bha, how much aha) -what is the max percentage I should be using if I'm using the same product but twice in one day? (again, how much of each)I had a hard time wording this question properly so I hope it makes sense! Thanks in advance for any replies :)

Sometimes when my skin looks bad I become obsessed with it: with what it looks like, how to fix it, how soon it will get better, and worries about whether it will get worse. I'm totally fixated on it! I know everyone else has so much going on and no one else cares that much but I can't stop thinking about it sometimes. I feel so shallow and vapid too - there are more important things to think about/worry about than my skin! What do you guys do when you get obsessive about your skin?

[Acne][Skin Concerns] Started Curology 3 days ago, little bumps all over face.. is it too early to be purging?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Oh geez I hope you guys can help. I got my Curology medicine a few days ago. I usually have 1-2 pimples at a time, nothing major. I am 25 and beginning to worry about aging, so I turned to Curology to get my hands on some tret. After sharing this with my doctor, she prescribed me:.012 Tret5% Vitamin C4% niacinamideFor the last few weeks, my routine has been the usual here, AM cleanse, vit C, moisturize, SPF- PM cleanse, BHA, retinol serum, moisturize. My pimples have all disappeared, it's been amazing. Per doctor's request, I have cut out my clarasonic and exfoliants and other serums while I am introducing my face to tret.I have put on the medicine ONCE (she recommended m-w-f at first) on Wednesday night and today (Friday) I woke up with about 10 little white bumps all over my chin. They look like mini whiteheads that get irritated to the touch. I think it might be a purge because I only ever really break out on my chin, so that would make sense, but from what I've read it seems WAY too early to be purging. If this is a purge, another thing I've read is that a purge may last 1-6 weeks. WHAT!? I only ever had 2 pimples at most at one time, so how is this going to be worth it to have 10 pimples (or more) for up to 6 weeks?I'm just a little bit confused. Any advice will help. Thanks always :) It's been amazing how much change I've seen in my skin while following r/skincareaddiction's advice.

[Product Question] What brands of tretinoin micro have you had?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I noticed last night that my generic tretinoin micro 0.1 has the exact same ingredients (same order) as my Retin-A Micro 0.08 (not generic) aside from the different amount of active ingredient as to be expected.Upon looking closer, the generic is made by Oceanside Pharmaceuticals. A Valeant subsidiary. Valeant makes branded Retin-A.I don't think there's a difference at all and Valeant just charges significantly more for the branded Retin-A Micro.Have you had any other generic tretinoin micro made by companies other than Oceanside?

[Acne] Can retinoids cause scarring?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've read that retinoids can help with light scarring but also that some people have reported increased scarring from use of retinoids. It seems that dermatologists seem to shoot down this claim but I imagine they're just using their book knowledge without much personal experience. Has anyone on here had experience of retinoid creams causing an increase in scarring? I'm 4 weeks into using a retinoid gel (Isotrex) for acne and it's going well but since I have very few scars I don't want to risk getting any by continuing the treatment.

[Routine help] Should I continue stridex after my breakout is gone?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
My current routine is: AM Splash of water Cetaphil moisturizer/SPF 15PM Eye makeup remover (if needed) Cetphil face wash Stridex red box Wait 30 mins Cetaphil moisturizerSo here's the deal. I've never really had acne. Mainly I've had a zit here and there. A few months ago my cheeks/jaw line broke out in the worst reaction I've ever had. I'm still not 100% sure what caused it. That's what made me get more serious about skincare. Now the majority of my reaction has subsided and I mostly have PIH left. After it's all cleared up, would stridex still be beneficial? Can it be used as an acne prevention?

[Misc] "Have you seen your face?" Now I remember why I avoid the cosmetic section...
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I just got that line from the lady at the cosmetics counter... And it ticked me right off. She asked if I needed help and I told her I was looking for exfoliant, because my skin turns in to a white, flakey shell of dead skin. Nope, she went on to tell me how I should avoid all exfoliant forever and tried selling me on two very expensive face care lines. One of which I did try and caused me to have a cystic acne break out. She kept doubting me and then decided to tell me that she really doubts I have rosacea because my face doesn't look like it upon closer inspection. The reason? Because I got a laser treatment for rosacea that was performed by a professional.I just needed a mild exfoliant (as recommended by the professional) to use once a week. Clerk lady even told me to cancel my treatment and look on the internet. I shut her down and explained the laser treatment and what the professionals told me.I'm doing all skin care shopping online now. What are your stories of unsolicited advice?

[Acne] I've never had normal skin on my back and I'd like to fix that
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Ever since puberty I've suffered from this stuff on my back (and my chest).I don't know what it is. The large red bumps are extremely painful and 50% of the time they will come to a head. If I squeeze them, there will be some white discharge/fluid along with a large white chunk afterwards if I squeeze hard enough. Then the bump will stay red for weeks and slowly recede but still be noticeable. The other 50% of the time they will stay red and painful and eventually the pain will go away, yet the bump and redness will remain forever.I also have small red painless blotches that are 50% bumpy and 50% flat that seemingly come and go.I don't get it anywhere else on my body and it's pretty frustrating because I consider myself v hygienic. I exfoliate when I shower and I shower every night before bed.Can someone point me in the right direction here?

[Skin Concerns] Help! I've tried everything on my legs, but I can't seem to get rid of my KP/razor burn.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I am getting married in July, and of course I'm trying to get my skin in check for the big day.I visited a dermatologist and luckily my facial acne is WAY better. Like, probably the best it's been since puberty. Unfortunately, her recommended OTC treatment (cerave moisturizing cream) for my KP (on back of arms and legs) isn't doing much. I'm considering making a follow up appointment, but I thought I would post here in a final plea for help before I do that.Has anyone had any success with other OTC products, or even prescription products that I could ask her about? I'm pretty much open to all options at this point. I haven't shaved my legs in MONTHS to try and help the redness/inflammation go away (with no improvement). Thanks in advance for the help.Picture I found online that is very similar to what my legs look like: http://i.imgur.com/pxBsRU1.jpg

[Product Question] Question about comedegenic products!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey guys! So, I have a quick question. I've been on accutane for about five months now, and I've definitely experienced huge improvements. Just earlier this week, i thought my skin was perfect! However, just two days ago, I had like three or four new whiteheads pop up, along with some very irritated looking skin. It looked so bad, it was as if I'd never been on the meds in the first place...I thought this breakout was the result of shaving with a safety razor for the first time, and very foolishly attempting to shave with just CeraVe fomaing cleanser on my face (as per acne.org guidlines) However, just to be sure there wasn't any other culprit, I checked the comedegnic ratings of my products... and low and behold, the moisturizing cream my dermatoligst had given me, despite being labeled non comedegenic, had a major ingredient that is a 4(!!!) on the comedegneic scale! Here's the cream. It helped me SO MUCH when I had eczema from the accutane. http://www.aveeno.com/product/aveeno-+skin+relief+moisture+repair+cream.doHere's where my question comes in- obviously, if I used that cream for a few days and THEN had a breakout, it would be logical to assume that it is the problem. However, I used that cream for about a month with no problems and actually saw huge skin improvement- would it make sense that this breakout could have NOT been caused by this product? Using it worries me because of the comedegenic ingredients, but at the same time, using for a pretty long period of time without issue seems to be a good indication that perhaps this breakout was a normal "accutane" one, or caused by my shaving differently.I'm asking for your opinions because I love this cream- its the only one I've found that actually makes my skin feel hydrating and not painful. I'd love to keep using it, but not if it's clogging my pores and preventing me from having the porcelain skin I'm paying all this money for..

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I just bought the Bioderma Crealine TS H2O Micelle Solution and don't know where to put it in my routine? Also do I rinse off? It says you shouldn't rinse but it kind of feels weird to leave it on over night...Would this be a correct PM routine with it?:Water -> Bioderma Crealine TS H2O Micelle -> 20 minute wait -> Moisturizer.

[Skin Concerns] I need help, I'm at my wits' end trying to figure this out. Redness/red spots and general unpleasantness.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I need to preface this by saying I hate making posts like this--I'm aware there's information in the sidebar and I've read the Wiki, but I'm still at a complete loss because there's so much information and I'm not quite sure exactly what I have and how to deal with it.This is what my face looks light right now, it's by far the thing I'm most self-conscious about and it's gotten to the point where I have trouble looking in the mirror. I know that comparatively to some others it's probably not terrible, but I can't stand it.http://i.imgur.com/w1PBYGY.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/Q7k82qD.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/7DiUswI.jpg?1I think my skin looks so bad because I have popped tons, maybe every zit that I've had. My Dad told me when I was young that it was the best way to get rid of them. I think he was wrong. I still do it though, out of habit. My skin is pretty sensitive, but mostly to dryness.Right now, I wash my face with CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser twice a day, then use Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix pads at night and Stridex pads in the morning. Then I use CeraVe Facial Moisturizer and somestuff I picked up because CVS was out of Ambi Fade cream, Nadinola Skin Discoloration Fade Cream. This has been for probably a few months, and I'm not seeing any real change at all. Things just proceed as normal. Can anyone give me some specific suggestions to try? Maybe even a way to cover it up while I work on it?

[Routine Help] Trying to figure it out
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I recently switched from my "throw whatever's cheap on my face to remove the makeup and gunk" habit to actually putting some time and thought into my skincare. I'm still trying to figure out products, and because of my less-than-great income it's a slow process, but I'm getting there.Current my routine isAM - BioDerma Sebium H20 Micellar WaterBioDerma Sebium Global MoisturizerLa Roche Posay SPF 60PM is the same, but minus the SPF and then three times a week I do a Skoah AHA mask.I'm about to add a Vitamin C serum to my morning routine. It's a Maritime Naturals serum and it's supposed to arrive today. I'm hoping it will help with my scarring / hyperpigmentation. I'm also interested in adding a retinol night cream to my routine, and possibly a good hydrating serum and eye (once I have a bit more money). So far my skin is looking really good and clear. I've got a few little whiteheads which I assume are purging from the AHA but otherwise no active pimples which is a first for me. BioDerma seems to be working, although I would like to see if they offer a less fragrance heavy line of products.SO, on to my questions:How does my routine look? Am I messing up in any glaring way?How do I add a retinol cream without messing up my AHA mask? Do I just not use the cream on nights I use my mask?Any recommendations for a good eye cream and hydrating night serum? For more info on me, I have dry skin that is prone to acne. Thanks!

[Product Question] Alternative to CeraVe in the tub?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
My skin absolutely loves CeraVe in the tub, it goes on so matte and it practically slurps it right up. But I'm worried that it might be the cause for all of the closed comedones that keep popping up. I use Tretrinoin so I need a very heavy moisturizer, what would be some good alternatives? I tried Nivea, but it just sat on my face and made my skin really dull.Current routine: am- wash with water, Paula's choice 2% BHA, CeraVe in the tub (I haven't found an spf to incorporate yet, bad bad I know!!)Pm- remove makeup with yes to cucumbers wipes, neutrogena ultra gentle hydrating cleanser, alternate .1% Tretrinoin/Paula's choice 8% aha, CeraVe in the tub

[Acne] Afraid that acne will spread
Beauty Tips For Body Care
This may sound stupid but...I have acne on my back, and I have had it for some time. The thing is that I'm a bit afraid that it will spread to the face. It may sound weird, but for some reason I think that if I remove my shirt, the shirt will have acne-bacterias on it which will get stuck in my hair when i remove the shirt. This bacterias will go down to my face, and I will get acne from doing it. I am also afraid that I will get acne in my face if the shirt touches my face if it has had contact with my back. Can acne spread like this, or is it just me being ''paranoid''?

[Routine help]Vitamin C serum after exfoliating causes burning?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Like the title states, after I exfoliate my face using the Stridex Pads and then apply my vitamin c serum, my face turns lobster red and feels very warm. It's not an intense burning feeling, but I wanna make sure I'm not damaging my skin or causing a chemical burn. Is this supposed to happen?

[ACNE] Could this be rosacea? Pictures inside + bonus unibrows
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Pictures: http://imgur.com/a/PJcsNAs you can see my skin is constantly flaky and irritated especially on my cheeks, plus I occasionally get small pimples such as the one you can see under my left eye.Untill now I always thought I had a mild acne, which was bearable even if a bit annoying, but recently I started to think that I might suffer from rosacea. In fact, I noticed that my skin became really sensitive, to the Point where I can't even sit in front of a screen for a 10+ minutes without flushing like crazy. I can't expose myself to the sun without becoming red almost immediately and things like pepper, alcohol and spicy food triggers an immediate reddening on my whole face. The flushing is restricted to the cheeks only.My routine is pretty simple:AM: Wash with Cerave Hydratating CleanserApply Cerave Facial Moisturizing Lotion AMPM: Wash with Cerave Hydratating CleanserApply Differin 0,1%Apply Cerave Facial Moisturizing Lotion PM

[Product Question] What are your HG body care products?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have eczema prone skin on my arms and I could not live without Moo Goo Milk Wash as well as their Skin Udder Cream (perfect to apply to your legs after shaving), the Full Cream (for my stretch marks on my stomach and thighs) and PC Resist Weightless 2% BHA Body Treatment for my chest, shoulders & back (because suffering acne on your face isn't enough). I also love the Moo Goo Cream Conditioner for shaving my legs - it's super gentle and my legs are no longer red, bumpy or angry. Every other week, I use the Feggari Magic Peeling Glove to exfoliate my body (not my face!).What are your HG body care products?

[Skin concerns] Flaky skin visible under foundation/concealer, making me look unprofessional
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi SCA, I've been lurking around for over 2 years now, and you've taught me everything I know about skincare. I went from a person who never uses moisturiser or sunscreen (YIKES) to someone who tracks UV index on her phone and owns several imported skincare products. That said, I still have one big problem that's been with me for most of my adult life, but it's gotten worse ever since I moved to UK. I have some problem areas on my face (nose and chin) that are not really clear but otherwise look fine, as long as I don't try to cover them up with makeup. As soon as I do, the skin on them appears very noticeably dry and flaky, and I can't find anything that would prevent this. As a result, every time I get a zit on my face, I can't look put together no matter how hard I try - I end up with a flaky patch on my face or a bright red spot, usually both.My routine is PM only (with the exception of sunscreen in the morning) and consists of:cleansing with Banila Clean It ZeroCOSRX AHA/BHA clarifying treatment tonerOlay regenerist super renewal elixir (night) or red Stridex - never both in one daysome hydrating essences if I have the time for itCeraVe in the tubI've noticed that my skin REALLY likes the Banila cleanser, but I'm not sure what to do with this information. Either way, my skin is really soft and supple once I finish with my PM routine, but it makes zero difference in the morning. I've tried:using a sleeping pack (Too Cool for School Pumpkin sleeping pack, I love the way it smells but I don't feel like it does anything at all for me)putting a moisturiser on before applying concealerusing a primerusing a beauty blender (both dry and damp) to apply the concealerstarted drinking lots of water (still do this because I think it's a good habit).Nothing works. I'm fairly sure the concealer (Maybelline Eraser Eye) is not the problem. The final straw was when I purchased a Missha BB cushion and when I tried applying it, the flakes on my nose were immediately visible, even though I had been following my routine religiously for weeks at that point. I've mostly given up since then, and while I still try to follow my routine, my heart's just not in it any more.Without any makeup on, my skin looks okay-ish - rather dry, but fairly clear. My lips get really badly chapped in the winter, but I've managed to get them under control using lanolin in the evening. However, I still get (mostly hormonal) acne now and then, and I just look like a complete mess on those days.Questions:how can I prevent the flakes?? I want to look like an adult person, not like a teenager who is frantically trying to cover up pimples by caking concealer on top of them :(as mentioned, I discovered that my skin likes Banila cleanser, which is oil-based, and my extremely dry lips are happy with lanolin - can I do anything with that info? I thought about slathering my whole face with lanolin but it's so sticky I'd probably leave most of it on my pillow and wake up with a face full of cat hair.

[Acne] Breakouts AFTER Accutane?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone. I've mostly been a lurker on this subreddit, and after completing a round of Accutane in July, I've become even less of a frequenter. Well now I really need your help. After a totally successful round of Accutane, I am doing what my Dermatologist said wouldn't happen anymore, I'm breaking out. It's been going on for about two months, and just recently got so bad I am embarrassed to leave the house. Some background. I began taking antibiotics and seeing a derm for my acne at age 15. After several years of failed antibiotics and a few long breaks of no medication, I decided to start Accutane last February. I started the first month by taking one 20mg pill a day. After the first month I was still breaking out pretty bad so I began taking one 20mg pill twice a day. I continued this for 5.5 months and decided to stop because of my wedding day. Everything was going amazing until about November or December. I slowly noticed I started getting very tiny zits around my mouth and chin. It has slowly progressed and now I wake up every morning with 8-10 tiny whiteheads on my forehead, cheeks, or chin.I'm so devastated since I thought Accutane was my way out of acne. Has anyone had this happen? Can anyone help? I don't have a lot of money to try new products. Pictures can be given upon request. Thanks guys!
