[Skin Concerns] Severe Hormonal Acne - Fix without Birth Control?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi,I am a 28 year old female who was put on birth control at age 15 for painful, severe, hideous hormonal acne.An OBGYN told me my body probably produces too many androgens, and she gave me a birth control that suppresses this male hormone in my body. The Pill worked and I had good skin for years. However, I've been nervous about taking the Pill lately. I tried to go off of it recently and my skin ERUPTED within 2 weeks. See the image I've attached. It makes me want to cry, seeing how hideous I looked. I'm so embarrassed to post that photo.A lot of my friends have been telling me they are going off their birth control because they're hearing horror stories of women our age who have had trouble conceiving after being on it for a long time. There is no research that proves this, but lately I've been uncomfortable with the fact that I've been on a pharmaceutical pill for THIRTEEN YEARS. That's a long ass time.I am worried about how long I've been taking the pill and I want to try something else. The trouble is, my skin is SO disgustingly ugly and painful when I'm not on this drug, as you can see! It seems like I'm cursed to either 1.) have ugly acne or 2.) risk infertility. I have some dates planned in the next few weeks and I don't want to be ugly during this already difficult process, but I also don't want to risk not having a baby! What's extra frustrating is that I have an identical twin who just went off the Pill due to these infertility concerns, and her skin is fine. She has never had the severity of acne that I have, which is puzzling :(Here are a few things I'm considering, and I'm wondering what you all think:- Go to an endocrinologist to get my hormones tested to see if I actually do make too many androgens- Go to a dermatologist to see if there's any other pharmaceutical I can take for my skin. I've read about Spironolactone but you need to watch your liver while you take it, so is that really any less risky than the pill?- Go to an OBGYN to see if something more serious is the underlying cause of my severe hormonal acne, like PCOS, although I dont have other symptoms of that- Quit the birth control cold-turkey and try natural ways to lower the androgens in my body. I already eat extremely clean but I'm cutting back on dairy, and people have told me some herbs like spearmint, peppermint, black cohosh, vitex, and nettles lower androgens in females. Ideally a change of diet and these herbs would work but idk if I'm that optimistic.Has anyone else quit birth control and dealt with their acne in a different way? What do you think is the best option of what I've listed above?Thank you for reading and for anything you can share!https://i.redd.it/ayuvchfkqrp31.jpg

Wow! I was over cleansing this whole time. [Routine help]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
This is all anecdotal, but I have to share in case this helps anyone else. I have very oily skin and in my pursuit to try to combat the oil, I have tried a lot of things. Most recently I tried just moving from a foaming cleanser to one that doesnt foam and now I only cleanse at night (I just rinse with warm water in the morning and apply a light moisturizer and cc cream) and WOW. I am blown away by how calm and not oily (or dry, or broken out) my skin is. I never expected this to actually work, but I definitely recommend. (Always with proper hydration and diet! So important!)My routine (in case needed):AM Warm water, juice beauty brightening green apple emulsion and CC cream.PM Juice beauty cleansing milk, FA toner pads, TO aha + b5 serum, TO niacinamide + zinc serum, juice beauty green apple age defying moisturizer.

[misc] anything I can get in Peru?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey all,Just moved to Peru for a few months and I brought enough supplies to last me the time here. However, I was wondering if there was anything worth getting or considerably cheaper to get while I’m here? Most things I’ve seen in pharmacies and supermarkets are common American brands like Dove and Pond’s that are quite expensive, or French brands like Bioderma or La Roche Posay whose prices get flipped 5-8x.Is there anything from the country or other LatAm countries to look out for?

[research] Why Do I Keep Getting Skin Tags?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have been getting an explosion of skin tags over the past 1-2 years and, frankly, I'm stumped.I've been checking out some posts about skin tags on this subreddit and someone mentioned that changes in hormones or blood sugar level could cause their formation. That would seem like a good fit. I've had other seemingly hormonal imbalance symptoms for women (eg-hot flashes, irregular periods, facial hair, and weight gain). The wacky thing is: I've repeatedly had blood work done and my results are constant. Everything is on the normal end of fine. My blood sugar is fine, too.Someone else mentioned something about friction? That might be another reason, but is that really how skin tags occur? I sleep on the right side of my face bc I'm half-deaf and, well, silence while sleeping is nice sometimes. That could explain away those on my neck, underarms, and midsection, too. The only issue with that theory is that these are the only areas I'm getting them. If it was friction that caused these, why are they absent from my thighs, general groin region, back, or under-breasts?I've changed up my skin care rotine--thanks to this subreddit--and my skin is mostly better for it aside from the skin tag issue. I'm going to try several of the previously posted suggestions for removal, but I'm really trying to understand why this phenomenon happens so I can get past my own discomfort and possibly prevent more from appearing.TIA for any info/ideas you can provide! I'm really trying to avoid unnecessary doctor's appointments bc healthcare is expensive!

[Misc] How can I heal a retinol burn from Drunk Elephant's A Passioni?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I applied a sample of this to my face, neck and chest a couple of nights ago following the usual retinol application advice. I have an oily, acne-prone t-zone and normal-dehydrated cheeks. My skin started peeling around my mouth the following morning, all over my cheeks by the evening and the skin on my cheeks and neck in particular has been so irritated and sore all over and feels really dry, itchy and warm (internally if that makes sense?) in those two areas. The tip of my nose has also gone all scaly and revolting since I've also been blowing my nose.Pretty much all of my moisturisers are lightweight gels because of my skin type, so I'm at a loss for what to buy in the AM to ease the irritation and dryness. The only other unscented thing I have at home is coconut oil that'll break me out like crazy. My usual moisturisers are just sinking in and making no difference. Side note: I break out when I use fatty alcohols, so I can't use a lot of popular moisturisers. (I know this product contains FAs, but I figured one usage wouldn't cause any issues. 🤦🏻♀️)How long will this last for?! I've used BHAs, an AHA peel and prescription acne treatments without anything like this level of irritation occurring before.

They tried real hard there". A lot of it seems false or information they collected in 5 minutes. They also post people's skincare raves they post on snapchat and I always see the WORST products, one even said coconut oil for moisturizing. A lot of the comments are spreading false info to people who try to disprove the threads or the products used. My favorite today was one person going off about how we NEED toner and if it makes our skin tight we're OBVIOUSLY using a bad toner and it's the only way to make our skin Truly Clean. 🙄 As a person with sensitive skin, I can assure I personally do NOT need toner or have squeaky clean skin!! Anyways, does anyone else have any other experiences on there?? Or am I crazy

[Skin Concerns] Eczema on nipple
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Sorry if this isn't the right place to put this or something ? But I've had this issue for a good while, over a year now definitelyBefore my nipples would just be like itchy and kinda like reddish from it in the past but in the last few weeks it's gotten worse than its ever been + more symptoms I guess ?I dont have bad eczema - it runs in my family but I only have it a little I guess. I only ever get little flare ups on the inside of my elbows which are super easy to manage and would be gone completely in like 2 days if I just used a steroid cream. And the skin there doesn't be particularly sore or itchy either, it'll just have that red and taut look that eczema has. And along with that I get itchy legs sometimes but like ? So does everyone. I have some issues with my scalp too but I think it's weird that despite my eczema being incredibly mild I'm experiencing it in such an unusual place now ? :/ And a lot worse than any flare up I've had on my elbowsI'm kind of worried it might be something more than just a skin issue just because of how unusual it is like I mentioned :/ Right now it mostly only affects one nipple and it can be SUPER itchy and red and its like flakey and like? sort of scabbing up a bit now ?What can I do to stop/prevent/control this + Should I get it checked out or something ?:/I'd be too freaked out to use a steroid cream on it, all I use on it rn is The Ordinary's moisturizer since its pretty mild

[Review] Youth to the People Products and Routine
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey friends!I've recently tried out a few Youth to the People [YTTP] products for the past month and I haven't found many reviews on their products, so I decided to post my experience and current routine!Skin type: Extremely dehydrated, acne prone, and oily. I had a bad experience with Pixi Glow Tonic (my own fault but I over exfoliated my skin to the high heavens and damaged my moisture barrier to the point where I'm still recovering, 6 months later. I'm very mad at myself).Environment: Southwestern Ontario, Canada currently in humid fall-ish warm weather. The past 6 months have been a rough go, but I bought the Youth Minis Kit from Sephora because I was very interested in the brand and I really liked their values (cruelty free, nutrition for the skin, etc.). I don't necessarily look for clean products but the ingredient list on all their products is so. good. The kit comes with their cleanser, superfood moisture cream, adaptogen deep moisture cream, superberry oil, and their superberry dream overnight mask. As well, I purchased their superfood face mask this week.Since my skin is so dehydrated, I haven't used their moisture cream because it seems too lightweight to be hydrating enough, and my skin has just stopped breaking out from the aforementioned dehydration. I also have't used their cleanser, because I am obsessed with Glossier's Milky Jelly and it'll have to be pried from my cold, dead hands. Here's my current routine:AM:Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser (HG)Klairs Supple Prep Unscented tonerSkin 1004 Centella ampouleYTTP Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream + 1 drop of YTTP Superberry Hydrate + Glow oilCanmake Mermaid Skin Gel UV SPF 50 PA ++++ (HG)PM:Remove makeup with Banilla Clean it Zero Purity (HG)Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser (HG)Klairs Supple Prep Unscented tonerSkin 1004 Centella ampouleYTTP Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream + 3 drops of YTTP Superberry Hydrate + Glow oilYTTP Superberry Hydrate and Glow Dream Mask (HG)Twice weekly I exfoliate with Farmacy Honeymoon Glow and once weekly I'll be using YTTP Superfood Face Mask.As you'll see from my reviews, I really enjoy everything that I've tried from YTTP. However, it really sucks how expensive all their products are (they do have great ingredients, but still). I was able to try all this due to some Sephora gift cards and strategic returning & exchanging of previous products I didn't like. I also don't enjoy how everything is in a jar. It's a cute aesthetic, and I always wash my hands obsessively before applying products, but I don't like all that air exposure and I'm probably going to decant parts of my full sized products into their deluxe sample jars to reduce the air exposure on the entire product.Anyway. Here is my experience with some of their products:YTTP Ataptogen Deep Moisture Cream: This is the first moisturizer I've been able to use that hasn't broken me out. I've tried a lot these past couple months, and this makes my skin feel so. good. It really plumps my skin and keeps my face hydrated all day. I actually add a drop of the Glow Oil to this in the am and 3 drops at night. It wears well under makeup, also. I've recently purchased a full size of this. I honestly thought I would never be able to use squalane due to breaking out from The Ordinary's oil, but this stuff has actually helped clear up my skin.Ingredients: Purified Water, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Oil, Octyl Palmitate, Glyceryl Stearate, Propanediol, Stearic Acid, Rhodiola Rosea, Ocimum Tenuiflorum (Holy Basil), Withania Somnifera (Ashwagandha), Ganoderma Lucidum (Reishi Mushroom), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Glyceryl Mono Laurate, Squalane (Olive), Phenoxyethanol, Simmondsia Chineses (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Pentapeptide-59, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Phenethyl Alcohol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Maltodextrin, Carbomer, Mixed Tocopherols, Ethylhexylglycerin, Allantoin, Panthenol, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Borago Officinalis (Borage) Oil, Caramel, Xanthan GumYTTP Superberry Hydrate and Glow Oil: This stuff makes my skin so fricken glowy it's insane. I love it. I've gotten compliments on my skin since starting this routine, and I fully credit the glowy-ness to this. It's definitely not a necessary item, though. I always add it to the moisturizer (my skin is THAT dehydrated) but I might start scaling back and maybe only using it at night because it seems that my moisture barrier is happy again and I don't think I need this during the day anymore. I've purchased a full size of this. It also smells divine.Ingredients: Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil\, Dicapryl Carbonate, Simmondsia Chineses (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Opuntia Tuna Extract(Prickly Pear), Euterpe Oleracea Fruit Extract (Acai), Lycium Barbarum (Goji) Extract, Aristotelia Chilensis (Maqui) Fruit Extract, And Moringa Oleifera Leaf Extract , Squalane Olive, Mixed Tocopherols (Vitamin E), Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil*, Linum Usitatissimum (Flaxseed) Oil*, Borago Officinalis (Borage) Oil*, Rosa Canina (Rosehip) Fruit Oil*, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil*, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Seed Oil*, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Seed Oil*, Natural Fragrance, Amylcinnamyl Alcohol, Citral, Citronellol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Hydroxycitronellal, Limonene, Linalool.*YTTP Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Mask: Honestly, if you're going to try anything from YTTP, let it be this mask. After using this about 3 times (I use it nightly as an occlusive replacement for vaseline) my skin has never felt so soft. I can't recommend this mask enough. It's light enough that I haven't experienced any clogged pores, but also occlusive enough that I wake up and still feel the hydration on my face. It does sink in really well, but I've been using a thicker layer than necessary so I wake up and can still feel it on my face. I can't say if it's brightening yet, but my skin has definitely improved and evened out since using this. I obviously bought the full size of this.Ingredients: Water/Aqua/Eau(Aqua),Glycerin, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Betaine, Isopropyl Myristate, Stearic Acid, Opuntia Tuna (Prickly Pear) Extract, Euterpe Oleracea (Acai) Fruit Extract, Lycium Barbarum (Goji) Extract, Aristotelia Chilensis (Maqui) Fruit Extract, Moringa Oleifera Leaf Extract, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (Vitamin C), Phenoxyethanol, Glyceryl Stearyl Citrate,Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Glyceryl Laurate, Squalane Olive, Carbomer, Hyaluronic Acid, Allantoin, Panthenol (Vitamin B5), Ethylhexylglycerin, Xanthan Gum, Natural Fragrance, Riboflavin (Vitamin B2)YTTP Superfood Skin Reset Face Mask: I won't lie, I've only used this once, which is definitely not enough time to notice a difference. I'm not a huge fan of clay masks but this didn't dry my skin at all. It actually is pretty hydrating. It seemed to calm some redness, as well. I'm still on the fence but the Sephora lady was raving about it so hopefully I see some good things soon.Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Kaolin, Organic Glycerin, Organic Brassica Oleracea (Kale) Leaf Extract, Organic Spinacia Oleracea (Spinach) Leaf Extract, Organic Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Organic Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Organic Medicago Sativa (Alfalfa) Extract, Organic Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe) Leaf Extract, Organic Spirulina Platensis (Spirulina) Extract, Plankton Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Stearic Acid, Glyceryl Stearate, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Panthenol (Vitamin B5), Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Algae Extract, Chlorophyll, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Ascorbate, Lecithin, Natural Fragrance, Pentylene Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium SorbateOverall, I highly recommend this brand. I've been using these products for a month now, and my skin has improved so much and is almost back to the way it looked before I went crazy on the Glow Tonic. I haven't broken out from anything, and usually if my skin didn't like products it would break out within a day.I didn't realize how long this review would be (I'm sorry!) but if anyone has any questions or would like a review of other products in my routine I can add them in the comments. Thanks for reading!

[Misc] I am considering trying The Ordinary's (or any other brands if you have suggestions) azelaic acid and I have a few questions.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
1: I have some slight scars/very minor dents and the occasional whiteheads (when it happens, it's usually followed by more for a week, then it chills out) on my face from when I was younger and was wondering if azelaic acid would help with these.2: I primarily struggle with some cystic, some regular whiteheads and a lot of red marks and PIE/PIH on my upper back and I was also wondering how it might would do here. (I sleep with a shirt on, I try to keep my bed cold and I wash my bed stuff 1x a week)3: How bad is the purging? I suppose it might be dependent on the person but I'm just paranoid I guess.4: Also, how do I know if this is even for me? I don't really want to use benzoyl peroxide because of the bleaching effect it has and salicylic acid (on my upper back at least, never used it for my face) doesn't seem to help that much.5: Also, facial hair. Does it stop it or slow it? (I'm 17M and I don't want to mess with my facial hair growth if that makes sense)Sorry if this is annoying haha, I wrote it out like this with the hopes of it being easier to respond to, but I appreciate you taking the time to read this. Thanks!

[Acne] Why do I only break out on the right side of my face??
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I cannot figure out for the life of me why I break out on my right side, but my left is 100% clear. I don’t touch that side more or rest my hand there, I only talk on my phone using headphones, I sleep on my back or left side, I change my pillow cases often. Is there somehow something hormonal that affects only half my body? I cannot figure this out!

[Sun Care] A rep for a product company came to my spa today, said that ingredients in sunscreen actually cause other types of cancer?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Ok, so this has been bothering me since 11am. I work in a spa, we had a rep from one of the product lines we sell come in this morning. This particular line recently discontinued/relabeled their SPF moisturizer. When asked about it, the rep explained that the ingredients in sunscreens (zinc oxide, etc) actually cause cancers in other parts of the body (specifically lymphoma, leukemia, breast cancer). They basically said that we should never use a sunscreen, or anything that blocks the sun, and instead just treat the after effects of the sun. Also, said that the damage that the sun does to the skin is never permanent. That sunscreens were created in the 80’s as a marketing scam. My white ass is sitting there thinking back to the peeling sunburn I got 3 years ago ..... so letting myself get red on the beach is better than wearing an SPF?I know this is probably BS but I’ve never heard this before. Does anybody have any evidence of this?

[Skin Concern] Is there any way to know, without a doctors perspective, if you have a touch of rosacea or that you just have very sensitive skin?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey guys and gals,I’m so puzzled.According to my mum, my skin has been termed sensitive since the day I was born. She has sensitive skin, on the dry side, too, so guess it’s genetic (?). However, I’m starting to wonder if I have a mild, somewhat moderate touch of rosacea. Perhaps type 1. I don’t want to diagnosis myself, that isn’t smart. Can’t help but think that I may have it, though. Or do I just have very sensitive skin, with hormonal breakouts? Is there any gentle way that I can “test” for it on my own, before I see my GP?I can’t afford a dermatologist nor do I want one because I feel as if they’re a waste of time and most just throw pills and topicals that make things worse, or barely look at you. My anxiety doesn’t - it doesn’t have time for that right now. Already have too much happening with my health in other areas to be bothered.“Symptoms”:Puffy eyes in the morning; they get irritated quite easilyWhen it’s exposed to hot or warm water, I’m around any type of heat like a fireplace, and if it’s the summertime and it’s really humid/hot outside, my skin flushes redIf I’m very embarrassed or shy or overly excited, my face again flushes and gets hot around my cheeks and neck areaMy nose can get pinky red sometimes, in heat or cold environments, or if I’m in an anxious situationMy skin is sensitive to a minority of ingredients in skincare products. If I use anything with fragrance, essential oils, witch hazel, alcohol denatured or alcohol, fatty alcohols and dimethicone (CeraVe), Rosehip Oil or Rose - it burns, breaks out / CCs, develops a rash (this happens now and then). It’s also dry as well, easily dehydrated if I’m not carefulOh, and sometimes, the slightest touch - even the most gentle - can leave my skin red for 15-30 minutesOther Things:I’m 24F from New England, USA (south Boston area) with pale, cool toned, dry, very sensitive skin.As of July 24, 2019, I was diagnosed with PCOS by a wonderful OBGYN. Since then I’ve been taking Spironolactone (50 mg) and Yasmin, so I have a while to go before I see any difference in my skin and hirsutism, etc. She also told me I have hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s disease.I have IBS and other gastrointestinal problems, but they’re being handled by a GI specialist and Linzess (which I will take, after the insurance company approves it🙄)Since I was about 12-13, I’ve dealt with genetic (maternal side) chronic depression and anxiety (social and situational). As of the age of 16, a psychiatrist diagnosed me with PTSD and a mild case of OCD (I become very obsessed over things; if things aren’t perfectly aligned or whatnot, I become upset and anxious).Any advice would be so welcome. As well as products that you love and trust, for a routine (cleanser, moisturizer, stuff for PIE and PIH and breakouts, sunscreen, etc). (I’m on a budget so nothing crazy expensive - $5-50 for each product, please.)

[product question] The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% pilling
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I recently bought the Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% from the Ordinary, i’ve seen quite a few posts about it and a few people mentioned it pilling, i’ve been using it in the mornings when i’m not leaving the house and been putting moisturiser ontop with no problems with pilling so far but i’ve been considering wearing it under makeup when i leave the house, i only really wear concealer on my skin itself and was wondering if that’s where people had problems? i’m a bit hesitant to try it because i don’t want to end up with the concealer pilling when i need to leave the house, so my question is has anyone had problems with using it under makeup and if so have they managed to find a way around it?

[Product Question] Citrus oil in Sunscreen
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I recently came across an affordable mineral sunscreen from a lesser known brand. It has 20% zinc oxide and from reviews I've read doesn't leave a white cast and works great for dry skin. That's basically all I've been looking for in a sunscreen. However the only drawback is it contains orange peel oil and palmarosa leaf oil listed as second last and last ingredient respectively. If I used it would the negative effects of these oils outweigh the positives of using this sunscreen ?

[Misc] - Serum Application?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’ve been a long time lurker of this sub and have pretty much nailed down my routine including a couple of TO serums. BUT I feel like I was never able to find a consensus on how to apply serums. Here’s the two options I’ve found-(1) insert into palm of hand, warm in hand by rubbing hands together, pat into skin (2) apply directly to skin & rub in similar to any normal moisturizerWhat method do you use & do you find it more effective?

[Routine Help] Retinol vs Vitamin C Eye Cream products
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone, I'm interested in creating a skin care routine for my under eye area. I'm 27 and am slowly starting to develop fine lines under my eyes in addition to dark circles. I have a very simplistic skin care routine and am currently not using any eye care products.I've heard a lot about retinol products and vitamin C products being good options for reducing fine lines. However, I really don't know much about eyecare in general. I was wondering if one product is better than the other? For example, is retinol better at minimizing fine lines compared to vitamin c? Are there any drawbacks to using retinol products or vitamin c products? I've read that it's not advised to use retinol products during the day unless you put sunscreen on top? Can both be used at the same time or is it better to use a day time and night time eye cream? Do you have any recommended products?Edit: a typo

[Sun Care] Is La Roche Posay's Anthelios Sunscreen good for oily skin?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have very oily skin and really hate wearing sunscreen because it leaves me looking so greasy. I've tried out the Australian Gold Botanical Sunscreen and it dries down really well, but I don't like that it's tinted. People swear by La Roche Posay's SPF, but does it work for oily skin?

[Routine Help] Routine Help for Oily Skin
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have oily skin which becomes dry because I swim everyday and chlorine drys skin out. Currently I use Blackwolf Charcoal facial wash, a daily exfoliant, a strong exfoliant which I use once a week, and a moisturizer. I wash 2 times everyday. I have constant hormonal acne and cystic outbreaks occasionally. My pores on my cheeks also look very large. What products/routine can help with this?

[Acne] My skin clears up when I get sleep
Beauty Tips For Body Care
but at the moment, at least for the next few weeks, I won't be able to get more than about 3-4 hours of sleep a night. How do I stop breaking out otherwise? I'm pretty clueless and don't really have a "routine": I just wash my face a lot (just with water) and shower twice a day. I eat (pretty oily) college dining hall food every day. What are some tips or things you would change if you were in my shoes to get better skin or get rid of existing acne? It's pretty much only on my cheeks and nowhere else.

[Routine Help] Blue Tansy or Guaiazulene?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Guaiazulene (also called just azulene, I believe) is a derivative from chamomile. Like blue tansy, it’s a calming and anti-inflammatory ingredient, plus its blue! So, my question: I have rosacea and am planning to start tretinoin soon, so I’ve been thinking of adding a serum or facial oil with blue tansy in it for the comforting and calming properties. Basically, I found three options: - Buy Herbivore’s Lapis oil or Sunday Riley Luna oil (very pricey and I’m slightly concerned about Herbivore’s lack of preservatives - though I guess that shouldn’t be too much of an issue with an oil) - Buy Acure’s blue tansy oil (much cheaper, but recent reviews suggest the re-formulation has made it less suitable) - DIY my own facial oil with up to 4% blue tansy oil (reputable sources of genuine blue tansy oil are apparently difficult to find, plus it’s a fairly high upfront cost)Nothing ideal so far. But then I found the Dear Klairs Midnight Blue Youth Activating Drops, which don’t contain blue tansy but does contain guaiazulene. They’re cheaper than the Herbivore or Sunday Riley or the upfront costs of DIY, they’re well-reviewed, I like other Dear Klairs products so I trust they’ll be good, and there’s a Midnight Blue cream in the line as well that looks promising. Seems like a no brainer, but I guess if the guaiazulene isn’t as calming/healing as claimed, then it’s a false economy.I know that blue tansy has been kind of a trendy ingredient for a few years now, but I’m just wondering how much of a difference it actually makes. Blue tansy is a type of chamomile, after all, so it’s not entirely surprisingly that products with either ingredient are advertised as having similar properties. I’m curious to know what you think!

[Acne] What works best to combat hormonal acne in a pinch?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So my normal routine has been working well for me in terms of general breakouts and some of the hormonal acne I have. But sometimes, these flare ups are way more than my usual routine can handle and I'm just not sure what to do.Skin type: very oily and acne prone, white as milkAM: Cleanse with Vivant green tea cleanser, klairs supple toner, clindamycin gel (prescription), origins original skin moisturizer, and biore perfect face milk spf 50PM: cleanse with Obagi clenziderm (2% salicylic acid), obagi clenziderm toner (2% salicylic acid), Azelaic acid (20%, prescription), origins moisturizerAlso: 50mg Spironolactone that I've been taking since June.Overall, the best additions to my routine in the last several months have been the salicylic products from Obagi and have given me the most drastic improvements. I think the spironolactone has been working since in general, the hormonal breakouts are less but the side affects can be too much if I go to 2x daily.I've been wondering if it would work to add a quick spot treatment to my routine for the bad ones that just want to fight to stay on my face or if I should just try to wait them out. Usually they'll last about 1-2 weeks and then I'll get a little bit of clearer skin time. But I have the Mirena IUD so my cycle is inconsistent and unpredictable right now. But it's been MILES better than it was when I got it back in January.Any help or pointers would be appreciated!(Also, diary doesn't seem to affect my acne. I've tried cutting down/out and it hasn't affected it at all. Just made me sad not to eat cheese lol)

[Misc] Opinions on Deciem's other brands?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi !! I just recently ordered the Niacinimide serum & the Alpha Arbutin serum from the Ordinary, and I was looking through the Deciem site and found TONS of other cool looking brands. They had lots of interesting and seemingly useful products, and one even had a "a big tub of hyaluronic acid". I wanted to know if anyone had any reviews/opinions because I haven't seen anyone talk about them before!

[Skin Concern] Does cutting out dairy actually help clear skin?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I would describe myself pretty lucky in the whole skin department. I've generally had clear skin my entire life (23 yo) which I am so thankful for but I've also just loved skincare and having a full routine to keep my skin healthy! But this past month has been brutal and I've experienced breakouts that I've never had before. I recently got a facial and she was telling me that my breakouts were in the middle of diet prone and hormone prone problem areas which is in the middle of my cheek, so it got me thinking. Hormonal, would make sense if I was on my period, but I wasn't and I haven't broken out this bad ever due to my cycle. So it left me to think about my diet, and though I haven't changed anything in it I did notice a pattern. Earlier this month, I had a slice of pizza from Costco (I love costco pizza 😭) and then my skin broke out the next day, but I thought it was from stress. It took me a few weeks to clear it up significantly, but it still left me with some dark spots. Then a few days ago, I had a slice again and even made the joke to my mom "let's see if my skin breaks out" and BOOM! The next day, my breakouts that I had healed came back and even worse, much more red and swollen! I'm certain it's from the pizza, could be oil or dairy, probably both, which makes me so sad because pizza in general is probably one of my most favorite comfort foods and the thought of having to give it up hurts me but I am truly wondering and now asking, does cutting out dairy truly help? If not permanently, then how long?

[Product question] Does Burt's Bees Lip Balm cause you problems?

I love Burt's Bees but I have long suspected that it would sometimes cause acne around my lips. Originally I thought that was just the nature of lip balms getting nasty over time. But then today I read the ingredients and noticed it has coconut oil in it.Anyone have any similar lip balm recommendations without coconut oil in them?

[Product Question] How long does The Ordinary’s Azelaic Acid last for you?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I wish they’d make a bigger tube! Just curious how much you use (is it really a ‘pea sized’ amount), how often you use it and how long the tube lasts for?

[skin concerns] The great war: Hard water vs. Thayer's Witch Hazel
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I won't bore you all over the details, here are the sparknotes:Annoying dehydrated, yet oily skin with acneFinally crafted The Perfect Skincare Routine™️ with help of this sub + The OrdinarySkin clears up! It's glowing! I think I may add a retinol, or perhaps a vit C!Moved to TexasSkin hates hard water (I assume) and is now breaking out in tiny angry zitsIntroducing THAYER'S WITCH HAZEL TONER and hoping that solves the issue so I don't need to buy a water filter thingySo: is this enough? I'm spritzing it on my face after I wash it, and letting it sit. Am I supposed to then wipe my face off? Would I be better if I got the kind I apply with a cotton ball? In lieu of splashing water on my face in the morning, will a simple spritz of this stuff do the trick?.. and bigger questions: Do I really need to get the water filter, and dear god DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO PROTECT YOUR FACE FROM TEXAS IN GENERAL

[Misc] Yall argan oil literally just saved my life
Beauty Tips For Body Care
For years I’ve struggled with extremely oily skin, closed comedones, acne, you know the drill. This last year I started attacking my face with acids, moisturizer, serums, everything, and saw next to no improvement, my face even looked greasier. But then the other day I tried a new moisturizer (Cerave PM) because I heard good things and I immediately started having an awful breakout. So I decided to take a break from my routine and let my skin “reset”, only washing my face once a night. A few days into this on a whim I decided to put argan oil on my face after I got out of the shower, did nothing else in the AM but sunscreen and wash with water.Omg guys.My skin has never produced so little oil. I came home today and I almost cried when I looked in the mirror because my skin looked NORMAL, not crusty like it usually does without moisturizer, not oily like always, just normal. Plus my texture looks better and my break out is very quickly going away. Omg if you guys have oily skin like me try it out because my life is changed 🙌

[Miscellaneous] Can we talk about how to properly recycle packaging?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’ve always turned a blind eye to how much waste my routine causes, but I’ve recently been keeping all the packaging of the products I use up (it makes me feel accomplished to see it all and I wanted to go through it at the end of the year to see what I’d repurchase) and WOW there’s so much plastic. It’s only been 2-3 months and I have a tub full (I’m a product junkie).I was looking at The Body Shop’s recycling thinking I could just drop everything off (probably naive of me), but there’s no location in the south that does their recycling program? And recycling isn’t the norm here.. You have to pay for it and it’s esspensive. I’m not sure how to go about it, and it irks me to just throw it all this stuff away.Any ideas? Thanks!!

[Misc] Horrible experience at my facial appointment
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have a massage envy membership and I’ve gotten 2 facials there before. Both of them were excellent. But today, not so much.First off, the lady pretty much dragged me after i told her I use cerave because it’s a “drugstore product” with “toxic” ingredients. Then of course she recommended the products available there for purchase. It used to be Murad but they changed over to a new brand, i forget the name but it’s only available in spas and dermatologist offices.During the previous facials I’ve gotten, the esthetician would tell me everything she’s using/doing throughout the whole process. This lady is just slapping shit on my face without saying a word. Then she brings out the light and starts inspecting my skin. With no warning whatsoever, she starts SQUEEZING THE ABSOLUTE FUCK OUTTA MY SKIN! it felt like I was being assaulted! This woman was pinching my forehead and nose so hard to the point where I had to tell her to stop. Before, they would ask me if I wanted extractions before doing it.Also, her neck and shoulder massage was trash, she kept rubbing the same spots over and over.Toward the end, she starts moisturizing my skin with a product that had such a strong artificial fragrance it smelled like I just walked into a bath and body works.... oh but Cerave products are the ones that are “toxic” SMH.To top it all off, she ended the appointment 10 mins early!!! I paid for an hour. Pretty disappointed because I was looking forward to a nice relaxing facial.

[PSA] Stratia is raising prices
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I just received an email from Stratia:“Hi XXXXX,When I started Stratia, it was just me and my little piecemeal, disassembling lab, working evenings and weekends around my full-time job. I worked out of the apartment I shared with my boyfriend (now husband): I cooked up batches of Liquid Gold on our stovetop; I packed up orders in our living room, watching endless reruns of House and Law & Order; I schlepped every box to the local post office. The hours were long and the overhead was low.In the 3 ½ years since then, Stratia has grown beyond my wildest dreams. I have been blown away by the support of our dedicated community of skincare enthusiasts. And while the hours haven’t gotten shorter, our costs have grown exponentially. There are now four of us working full-time out of our dedicated office and lab space in Pasadena. We’ve invested in large-scale manufacturing equipment to keep up with demand. This year we were also dealt a punishing blow by the introduction of 25% tariffs on all our bottles and packaging. It’s with a heavy and reluctant heart that I’m forced to raise our prices – only a little, just $2-3 per product – to keep up with our growth without sacrificing the quality of our formulations. This is not a decision I take lightly. One of Stratia’s core values is accessibility, and that means staying as affordable as possible. I’ve run the numbers a thousand different ways and made sure I chose the smallest possible increase to keep it in budget for as many of you as possible. The new prices won’t go into effect for another week, so feel free to stock up. We’ll also continue to have our annual sale every Cyber Monday. The new prices are:Liquid Gold: $27 Rewind: $18 Fortify: $21 Soft Touch AHA: $16 Velvet Cleansing Milk: $15 for 4oz, $28 for 8oz (no change) C+C Serum: $25In addition to accessibility, a major value of Stratia is transparency. That transparency isn’t just about telling you what’s in our products and how they’re made; it’s also about communicating through decisions like this that affect you directly. As always, my inbox is open for feedback and questions.Thank you for your understanding and support! We have exciting things coming your way in the near future.Yours,Alli”

[acne] If I had clear skin I’d be too powerful
Beauty Tips For Body Care
That’s what I say to myself when I look in the mirror defeated, in the mornings when I wake up and feel excited to see any positive change to my skin but instead seeing the pimples red as ever. They stand out a lot and they’re the only thing I don’t like about my face. I’m a pretty confident person and I’m actually happy with how I look and who I am, but these pimples just really shut all of it down and make me super self conscious. I’m also using differin right now and I think I just hit the purge stage, so my skin is currently the worst it’s ever been. Fun. But, I tell myself that once this purge is over I’ll have skin so clear it’s see through.I tell myself the universe gave me acne bc if I didn’t, I’d be too powerful for these b*tches and I’d steal all their mans. I’d be slaying walking down the street and have them running with the blink of an eye. They’d either want to kill me or want to be me. I’m totally kidding btw I’m not that kind of person lol. Here’s a list of things I tell myself to feel better about my loving acne:it’s not permanenteveryone gets some acneothers with clear skin may not understand my struggle with my skin, but they have things that I’m glad I don’t struggle withit’s not as noticeable as you thinkit makes people understand you better or makes you seem more humanit could probably be a lot worseit doesn’t make you any less of an amazing personyou can still slay with it (ex. My crush who I was embarrassed to talk to bc I was insecure with how I looked with the huge pimple on my forehead actually liked me back this whole time)people really don’t care that it’s thereHopefully this is helpful to some people. I know it’s a long and difficult journey struggling with acne, but we’re all in it together and we’ll get through it!! This was really just a late night word vomit of my thoughts so sorry if it’s really weird. Praying to the skin gods that you all get clear skin ASAP.

I am one of the unfortunate ones who has KP on my arms. People point out my “goosebumps” all the time and it brings my self confidence down so much. I feel like I’ve fought so hard with it for years and nothing has helped yet. Any advice would be so appreciated!

[Shelfie] Mostly holy grail, mostly drug store, dry skin savior routine
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Here are all of the products I use on my skin, head-to-toe, and a selfie of what my skin looks like on an average day: https://imgur.com/a/VE7g2Vc (I can't get links to work properly with formatting)I am physically incapable of making anything short, so buckle up friends!!TL;DR (づ◔ ͜ʖ◔)づ AQUAPHOR (づ◔ ͜ʖ◔)づSkin Type: DrySkin Concerns: Reducing redness due to dry spots, occasional acneSkin Goals: Moisturized, even textureI'll preface my routine with a full-disclosure statement: I've really never had what anyone would call "bad" skin. The worst it ever got was when I went off birth control, then joined the SCA community and my skin was adjusting to a new routine. So, if you're new and feeling frustrated - give it time! The basic SCA routine is solid: https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/sca_routine I found that it took about two years to find the products that worked consistently for my skin.AM RoutineSplash face with water - I used to cleanse in the morning but have found that only cleansing at night works best for my skin. If I workout at an awkward time in the middle of the day, I'll wipe my face down with micellar water, then rinse off with water.Neutrogena Hydro Boost Serum - HG and a great replacement for Drunk Elephant's B-Hydra. I also think it sort of smells like Smarties which is fun!Drunk Elephant Protini mixed w/ The Ordinary Squalene - HG moisturizer, worth the money as I have seen a definite "firming" of my skin and smoothing of the texture. I mix it with Squalene as a replacement for Drunk Elephant's marula oil - $5 vs $40? No brainer.Biore Watery Essence Sunscreen - HG sunscreen. I see a lot of posts on here talking about how great it is for oily skin, and for my dry skin it also works really well. Dries relatively quickly without drying my skin out and keeps a nice, matte finish.PM ROUTINERemove makeup (if wearing any) with Garnier Micellar Water - Not much to say about this one. It takes makeup off without drying out my skin.Cleanse with CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser - HG. Cleanses well and doesn't leave my skin feeling stripped.Benton Snail Bee High Content Essence - Solid snail boi that has helped with redness. I don't know if I'd call it a HG because every time I'm almost out, I consider switching to a different one, but I keep buying it because it works and is affordable.CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream mixed w/ The Ordinary Squalene - HG night cream, can't say enough good things about it and recommend to anyone who has dry skin! It's got a nice, thick consistency that my skin just drinks up. Mixed with squalene, my skin is no longer thirsty.Aquaphor - #1 HOLY GRAIL OF ALL TIME Y'ALL. For me, Aquaphor is to skin as Windex is to everything according to that one guy in My Big Fat Greek Wedding: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPCIsIJ7nhY I layer this on over my night cream after it has sunk in and enjoy that sweet, sweet, slug life. It does stain my pillowcases but I change them every day anyway. I also use this throughout the day on my lips, on my knuckles/elbows when they get dry, on my feet... I slap that shit on anywhere that needs healing!WEEKLYSaturday: Drunk Elephant Babyfacial - HG. Really does feel like I'm revealing a new, baby-smooth, healthy layer of skin after I wash it off. Since it's pretty much the only exfoliant I consistently use, my dry skin doesn't mind it, and you better believe that I follow it up with my night cream/oil mix and some M'FKN AQUAPHORSunday: Aztec Secret Indian Clay Mask (mixed w/ ACV), followed by La Pure Snail Sheet Mask - If my skin is really dry, I will skip the clay mask and only use snail. I find that the clay mask helps keep acne at bay while the snail re-hydrates and gives my skin a hydrating, glowing boost. Plus, finding new ways to sneak up on my boyfriend looking like a goblin and/or Leatherface keeps the routine fun & interesting.BODYVaseline Essential Healing Body Lotion - I love this stuff for the winter, not so much when I'm sweaty though.Aveeno Daily Moisturizer - HG, have used this since high school.Trader Joe's Hand Cream - HG! I am a slut for expensive hand creams but at $5 this one is my go-to, and it comes in an aluminum container (because that's how you know it's legit)Burt's Bee's Cuticle Cream - I put this on before bed and it helps keep my nail beds nice & soft.MISCDrunk Elephant Marula Oil - Won't buy. My boyfriend bought me two of the DE sample packs for a birthday gift, so I'll use them occasionally. As stated above, The Ordinary Squalene works just as well as this for me. I'll sometimes use this after Babyfacial or mixed in with my night cream if I'm feeling fancy.Drunk Elephant B-Hydra - Won't buy. Also as mentioned above, I think the Neutrogena HydroBoost works as well or better than this. I'll use this when I do a workout at a weird time in the middle of the day and have to wash my face but don't feel like re-applying HydroBoost for some weird reason.Drunk Elephant Glycolic Serum - Won't buy. I really only use this if I see that I'm developing acne, and never within two days of using Babyfacial.Drunk Elephant Vitamin C Serum - Vitamin C is really the only thing I'm missing in my current routine, so sometimes I'll mix this in with my day moisturizer. I used to use Vitamin C in my routine but it did its job at fading acne scars, so I don't really have a need for it. I'd consider buying this one if it didn't smell like an old leather purse and wasn't $80.Kroger 10% benzoyl peroxide - Used to treat acne when it emerges. Paired with pimple patches, blemishes typically fade within 2-3 days.Corsx Pimple Patches - I follow the ol' "stab whiteheads with something sharp and cover it with one of these babies" approach, so these are definitely HG status for getting rid of acne fast.LIFESTYLE/OTHERI have found that items in this category have been the true game changers in going from treating my skin to maintaining it, so worth mentioning.Makeup - 95% of the time, I only wear mascara and some brow color, if anything at all. I wear face makeup on the occasional fancy outing, such as a wedding. This has been a huge factor in my skin's health. I can be a sweaty lady and I think that foundation getting sweated all into my skin led to some nasty junk, so I have gone barefaced for about two years now.I am on birth control - I broke out pretty badly when I went off of it several years ago, so this definitely is a factor in my skin's appearance. Eventually I would like to go off it again so pray for meChange pillowcases daily - Until I started doing this, I always had one of those big, deep, painful cheek pimples. Now I get one maybe every 3-4 months.I workout 5-7 days/week - Not sure if this contributes to my skin's health other than being part of an overall healthy lifestyle.Drink 4-5 L fluids daily - I drink 3-4 Nalgene's worth of water every day, plus tea. HYDRATE OR DIEDRATEMostly healthy diet - Dairy, gluten, etc. don't seem to have any affect on my skin, and I basically eat what I want while keeping nutrition in mind. I do notice that I always break out when I eat a bunch of high sugar candy such as Skittles, Smarties, etc. so I try to avoid those.I change the towel that I use to dry my face weekly - Should probably do this more often than weekly, but I have enough laundry as it is.Therapy - Seeing a therapist has helped me with my anxiety and greatly reduced my stress level, which affects my skin. My skin care routine is part of my mental health routine, so it's important to make sure the latter continues to be in good shape!I hope you enjoyed reading this monster, and that it's helpful to see how these products have helped keep my Sahara-ass skin hydrated! When in doubt, AQUAPHOR.
