[Misc] Here's my hot take: Everyone* should be using a BHA body wash
Beauty Tips For Body Care
BHA aka Salycilic Acid might be best known as the anti-acne ingredient, but I think in terms of body care, it's got something to offer everyone. It fights body acne. The first and most obvious reason, probably the main reason for anyone who chooses to use one. As many of us know, BHA dissolves oil, exfoliates dead skin cells, and kills acne-causing bacteria, all of which work to fight acne.It smooths your skin texture. Bumps on your arms? Scaly elbows? Tough dead skin on your feet? All improved with regular exfoliation. It reduces ingrown hairs. Again, regular exfoliation reduces the chance that new hairs will get stuck under the top layer of skin.It fights sweat odour. Sweat doesn't actually smell on its own, that happens after it's been metabolized by bacteria living on your skin. I couldn't find any hard evidence of this point, but there's a lot of anecdotal claims that chemical exfoliants improved people's body odour. Why? Some scientific evidence shows that sweat smells better in a more acidic environment, perhaps because lower pH reduces amounts of bacteria or reduces their ability to metabolize sweat. Chemical exfoliant products generally promote lower pH. It may also have to do with the antibacterial properties of BHA.What about dry or sensitive skin types? Well, maybe or maybe not. Body skin tends to be a bit more resilient than facial skin, so even if BHA is drying or irritating for your face, it might work fine elsewhere. Cleansers are also the safest way to use irritating active ingredients: unlike with leave-on products, you can control and limit your exposure to the ingredient by washing the cleanser off whenever you prefer to. Unless you have a bad sensitivity to BHA, or a condition like eczema, I'd say it's worth a shot! Make sure to treat yourself with a nice, nourishing body lotion afterwards. :)What about an AHA body wash? Sure, if that's what you prefer, go for it! It just won't have all of the same bacteria-fighting and oil-dissolving properties that BHA has. It's also generally harder to find than BHA cleansers. Why not a BHA toner or lotion? As always, it depends on your skin's needs. If you want more effectiveness, you might prefer a leave-on product. However, as mentioned above, dry or sensitive skin might do better with the limited exposure offered by cleansers. Oilier skin types might find that typical body lotions congest their skin too much. Or maybe you're just living a busy modern life and don't have time to slather yourself head-to-toe with products after each shower. And then there's always the issue of cost! When you're using something on your whole body you go through a lot of it, and cleansers tend to be the most affordable of all skincare products. So to sum all of that up: a BHA cleanser is the easiest, most universally tolerable, and most affordable way to introduce your body to chemical exfoliation. Other products can be added as desired. What should you use? There are products specifically advertised as BHA body washes, usually marketed for anti-acne purposes. But you can also just use a cheap BHA facial cleanser. My pick is CeraVe SA Cleanser. It's a simple and fragrance-free formulation with gentle surfactants that should work well for most skin types. It's a bit pricier than your typical drugstore body wash, but I only use it once every 2-3 days, so it lasts me for a good while. There are lots of options available, so pick whatever you think will work for your skin! Just make sure it's formulated at a pH that's low enough for exfoliation to take place.Feel free to correct me if I got anything wrong! I'm no expert, this is just a collection of folk wisdom I've picked up over time from frequenting this sub and other skincare info hubs.*Unless you have a sensitivity or allergy to BHA

[misc] Potassium azeloyl diglycinate vs. azelaic acid
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I noticed Garden of Wisdom made a new 'azelaic acid' serum with potassium azeloyl diglycinate instead of 'normal' azelaic acid. Also Geek & Gorgeous has a PAD serum, same for Jetske Ultee (Holland's most well-known cosmetic dermatologist). But for some reason I can't really find many reviews about it. It's a rather new form of azelaic acid and has little (but promising) research behind it. Also on incidecoder it's marked as a goodie.Has anyone used such a serum with potassium azeloyl diglycinate before and seen any skin improvements on it?Tyyy

[Product question] All I want in the world is a version of Dr. Jart's Cicapair Color Correcting Cream that pulls neutral-pink rather than peachy yellow (also a brightener to deal with this sun damage that doesn't make my skin instantly dry up, but that's for another time).

[Routine Help] How do you take care of yous skin under a beard?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi, I am trying to come up with a new skin routine for my husband.I noticed the skin where he has his beard is dry and flaky. He has a beard shampoo (strongly fragranced) that he uses twice a week but otherwise uses regular face products (CeraVe cleanser and moisturizer, grape seed oil).I would appreciate some info from people with thick beard, do you have any shampoo recommendations? How do you moisturize your skin under the hair? For products like serums, sun screen, acids etc. do you apply them on your beard too? :)

[Routine Help] Quitting Curology, need routine & product help
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I currently use Curology but it is expensive for the amount of product I receive. My formula is 0.018% Tretinoin, 1% Clindamycin, and 8% Azelaic Acid.Current goals include anti-aging, skin tone/texture, and "glow". I am hoping for suggestions about what products I can use instead, and when/how to use them in my routine. Before I went on Curology, I was using a 0.025% Tret prescription so I can continue to use that. I also have a Vitamin C serum I could reintroduce to my routine. I've been wanting to try Niacinamide, so perhaps this serum would be a good place to start. My question is, is it safe if I apply this during my PM routine along with Tret?Lastly, are there any products that you feel I am missing?Below is my proposed routine:**AM**cleanse with waterapply vitamin C serummoisturize with Vanicream moisturizing creamapply SPF: Australian Gold Botanical SPF 50 Tinted Face Lotion**PM**cleanse with Garnier Micellar watercleanse with Vanicream gentle facial cleanserapply cos de baha serum (Azelaic Acid/Niacinamide)moisturize with Vanicream creamwait 20 minutes: apply Tretinoin*once per week instead of Tretinoin apply TO 7% Glycolic Acid toner*Thank you!!

[Sun Care] Riemann P20 Suncare for Kids SPF 50+ under Sunscreenr & Car Sunscreenr Picture
Beauty Tips For Body Care
https://imgur.com/a/V9IqBx3https://imgur.com/a/jbJGzwnHope everyone is doing well. I apologize for the pictures, no matter what I do I always lose pixels when I upload to Imgur.Face: Riemann P20 Suncare for Kids SPF 50+Lips: SVR Sun Secure Easy Stick SPF 50+Chest & arms: Bioderma Photoderm Kids Spray SPF 50+Needless to say, I'm impressed. This is about the blackest I've ever seen a sunscreen look under Sunscreenr.Another great thing is that there doesn't appear to be any missed spots. This is what I expect from cream vehicle sunscreens, but it's still nice to have it confirmed visually.I used 1 pump for my face, and then I dispensed a few partial pumps for around my eyes. The bottle dispenses 1g per pump, according to the manufacturer. I will be testing this later with my scale. But it sounds about right because the amount dispensed with a single pump is A LOT.My chest is showing up less dark. I'm going to attribute that to the fact that the Bioderma contains "only" Tinosorb S and Uvinul A Plus, whereas the P20 contains Tinosorb S, Tinosorb M and Uvinul A Plus (and Tinosorb A2B 🤯)Here it is around 2.5 hours after application:https://imgur.com/a/oeKX7VrExcuse the tangly mess I call hair. Here is a picture of the passenger side of my car, taken from the driver seat:https://imgur.com/a/qTSwK8ZAs you can see, there appears to be no UVA coming in from the front passenger window. There is a little bit of UVA coming in from the sunroof.Bonus pic, guess who's wearing sunscreen?https://imgur.com/a/e1Z3196If only Amazon UK would send me the 200 mL bottle I ordered! It's sold out already and I worry I won't have access to it in the future.

https://imgur.com/a/V9IqBx3https://imgur.com/a/jbJGzwnHope everyone is doing well.

[Misc] I'm tired of skin care
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I know this gets posted every other week but I just want to rant. I've been into skin care for years now (before the craze started). I'm exhausted. There are so many videos uploaded daily and it's just so overwhelming. There's just so much content you can produce around skin care. We don't need a 30-minute video on different sunscreens. Just buy one that works for you and that's it. We really need to focus on other aspects of our lives and well being. I have spent an embarrassing amount of money on products. It's all so unnecessary. I know that the skin we see on IG isn't real. I have to start putting more focus on going to the gym, taking care of my mental health, and strengthening my relationships. I don't know if we're all doing this because of vanity or insecurity but I think we need to take a step back.

Our community is knowledgeable, and we want to help you have the best skin of your life!Do you have a question?Step 1: Read our resourcesBe sure to check out our FAQ and Wiki! There are a lot of topics covered in those links, but some of the most popular guides include: The ScA Routine (Need a routine? Start here!)Routine OrderHG Product Recommendations AcneHyperigmentation (including dark acne 'scars'/marks, melasma, etc.)Dehydrated Skin Or search the sub using this awesome website. You might find a solution to your problem there! If you can't find an answer, or you have additional questions after reading, please move on to step 2! Step 2: Ask for helpTo give you the best advice possible, our users need relevant information about your skin and skincare. With your request for help please include: The issue(s) you need help with. [Skin Concerns] just 40 and think I look 60 , saggy gaunt face .
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi guys and girls .I’m in a bit of a bad way emotionally , just 6 months into a relationship breakdown , whe where together over 20 years .Not shore it’s the stress of not eating or over training at gym or minoxidil that I was using for a few months at the start of the year . But I feel my face has aged dramatically. I’m just 40 , recently stoped vaping due to acne and am back smoking I know it’s not good but It’s my only vice , that and coffee . No drink or dugs for a few years now. It’s like all the healthy fat has drained out of my face . The rest of my body is great .I look like a zombie in the morning and my nasial folds just add to the sunken lower cheeks .I had bad acne as a teenager so have a lot of light scaring.I really don’t know what to do .Get a face lift , fat injections or just fillers . I have spoke to a few clinics and they all say something different I just don’t know .It is crushing me at the moment I just don’t know what to do . If it’s my face fat , colegen is wasted I won’t be able to get it back .Seriously this is the lowest i have ever been :(Feel so ugly.Any advice or help would be really appreciated.ThanksHere are some pics : https://imgur.com/a/SRiNi83R

[Sun Care] I committed the worst skincare skin sin ever. Help me find peace.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
It was a partially cloudy day and my ghost ass self was craving sunlight that was more than the shade offered by my window. Get that vitamin D for half an hour on each side. Nobody was up there except for myself and God who probably didn't appreciate the view. That's ok, I didn't care.Last summer I dealt with severe sunburn (and the summer before that. And the summer before that summer...) so I thought I learned my lesson.Fuck me.When I came downstairs after my light toasting and looked in the mirror, my face scared me more than usual. I was SO RED. My cheeks, forehead, chin and nose. So fucking red. I thought it'd go away because maybe I was hotter than I thought (How does that make sense?)It didn't go away even at 10 pm so I lathered cooling gel on my face and made an (tele) appointment with my dermatologist. I tried making excuses, "it was only a UV index of 4" as she shook her head at me in disappointment and reminded me that I'm fair skinned whether I like it or not.So slather on your SPF and learn from my mistake. The hydrocortisone next to me is giving me the side eye. The SPF she recommended is sold out but the office will call me once it 's in stock. Learn from my mistake.Rub that sunblock down to your nipples. Just do it.

[REVIEW] GLOW RECIPE full line review
Beauty Tips For Body Care
https://imgur.com/a/5rioMS1Hi skincareaddiction! I have seen some mixed reviews here about Glow Recipe so I thought I’d offer my no-nonsense review for their entire line. My review includes my skin type, a description of the product, how long I’ve used it, and if I’ve repurchased. If it’s a new product that I haven’t tried for very long I note it. I also note my drugstore dupes or better alternatives I’ve found. Enjoy!MY SKIN TYPEI am 26, F, with dry/combo, acne prone, sensitive skin, with eczema on my chin and cheeks that flares up in the colder months. My other HG product lines are cerave, innisfree, youth to the people, belif, and aveeno for reference.WATERMELON GLOW SLEEPING MASKAmount of time used - 3.5 yearsPurchased - 5 timesResults- I would call this a gentle resurfacing mask. Does it make my pimples disappear overnight? No. But my skin is always noticeable more even toned, even textured, and hydrated! I’ve repurchased this so many times because it’s RELIABLE, and it works. It’s never angered my eczema, in fact the gel formula is perfect for mixing with a thicker moisturizer and holding it on my skin overnight, so I wake up to calmer skin. I haven’t found any sort of alternative yet (I think most focus too much on the “watermelon” aspect and load up on the fragrance for the gimmick), so until then I’ll keep shelling out for this!(Not pictured)BLUEBERRY BOUNCE CLEANSERAmount of time used- 1.5 yearsPurchased- 2 timesResults- this is a wonderfully gentle cleanser, and it smells great but not overpoweringly blueberry. Just lightly fruity, and clean beyond belief. My skin is very sensitive to cleansers but this one has always done a great job! I’d say it’s comparable to the YTTP cleanser, but slightly thicker. It’s a bit pricey, a great drugstore alternative is the cerave gel cleanser, which has worked just as well. But if you’re feeling spendy, go for it!AVOCADO MELT SLEEPING MASKAmount of time used - 1 yearPurchased - onceResults- this is a veeerry thick moisturizer. But sure, we can call it a mask. I purchased this most recent bottle before they rebranded it as a retinol based mask, but as far as I know the formula didn’t change. So to me, the retinol isn’t in high enough concentrations to really be worthwhile. Do I enjoy this “mask” as as a thick moisturizer? Yes. The texture is unmatched and it really feels lovely! But if you’re looking for a true retinol product, this ain’t it bud. Once this product runs out I probably won’t be repurchasing it, in favor of the YTTP superfood air whip cream. Same texture, better results, no retinol gimmick :)PINEAPPLE C BRIGHT SERUMAmount of time used- 1 yearPurchased - onceResults-vitamin c is hit or miss for me! This serum has a fun texture, and it smells a bit like that burnt-toast smell that all self tanners have, with extra pineapple. I actually like that smell, and the pineapple definitely smells like the real fruit, not like fake candy. I didn’t see dramatic results from this as far as resurfacing or brightening goes, so for the price this one is a no-go for me. I like to put it on after a shower while my pores are open, and then layer a light moisturizer on top (see the banana cream review below!) and it does give a nice glow, but I think there are better, cheaper options out there. I’m enjoying using it until it runs out, but at that point it’ll be the end of it for me.WATERMELON GLOW ULTRA FINE MISTAmount of time used- 1+ yearPurchased- 5 times!Results- okay real talk. I’m a woman of science. Face mists are a money pit. They’re expensive and offer little in the way of actual skincare benefits. But I’ll be damned if this isn’t the best skincare mist out there. It smells so lovely, like freshly cut watermelon, but not sickly sweet and fake. It has just the right mix of oils and liquid so the mist sets on your face and makes you feel like you just walked through a cool spring breeze on a hot summer day. It doesn’t dry up and leave you wondering where the hell it went, because it’s not chock full of alcohols (I’m looking at you badescu). It’s refreshing as fuck and I can’t get enough! I’ll keep throwing my money at this stupid spray (I have 2 currently) until they stop selling it because I just love it.WATERMELON GLOW PORE TIGHT TONERAmount of time used- just 1 month RECENTPurchased- none, received as sampleResults- the jury is still mostly out on this one. It’s strangely sticky, reminiscent of the Milk hydro grip primer when it dries down, if you’re familiar with that one. It does make my skin look fresh and squeaky clean, and as far as a chemical exfoliant I’d choose this one over the pineapple serum in a heartbeat. Does it make my pores look smaller? Mmmm I don’t think so. But it holds on to my moisturizer so well, I’m about 65% sure I’ll purchase the full size. Another toner I’ve used and enjoyed is the innisfree green tea toner, but it’s so heavily fragranced I think I’ll be switching to the glow recipe one.BANANA SOUFFLÉ MOISTURE CREAMAmount of time used- 2months RECENTPurchased - got a sample, then purchased the full sizeResults- this is the product where I’ve been seeing the biggest divide in existing reviews. I enjoy baking so I was expecting the texture to truly be airy and soufflé like, but it’s nothing like that. It’s very slippery, similar to a snail cream, or a jelly moisturizer. It smells pretty strongly of bananas but not fake extract, more like a banana milkshake. A little goes a long way! I’ve been using this as a gentle daily moisturizer for my sensitive dry skin, and it’s perfect on its own or layered under my makeup. My skin stays moisturized all day, and no breakouts to be seen as of yet, 1 month in. Comparable high end products would be the drunk elephant Lala whip moisturizer, or the belif aqua bomb moisturizer, drugstore dupe (for results, not for smell) would have to be the cerave daily moisturizer.WATERMELON GLOW PINK JUICE MOISTURIZERAmount of time used- 3 monthsPurchased - onceResults - I wanted to love this, I truly did! But as a dry skin gal it was just not moisturizing enough. I think this would be excellent for my combo/oily friends out there who need moisture without oil! I did get through my bottle by using it on days where I knew I’d be sweating or getting really oily, when I couldn’t use my usual thicker daily moisturizer. This was lovely during the summer for that reason. It never broke me out, and has the same lightly watermelon scent as the spray and mask in the same line. I don’t have a drugstore comparable one for this since I’m not familiar enough with oily/combo moisturizers, if you have one please comment!Never purchased, not reviewedWatermelon pop lip balmAvocado melt retinol eye maskI have super sensitive eyes, and since the avocado melt mask wasn’t really my jam, I’ve never felt the need to try the eye cream. I love the Ole Henrickson banana bright eye cream, or the cerave eye repair cream. The watermelon pop lip balm... meh. High end lip balms just seem silly to me. Aquaphor lip therapy is, and always will be my holy grail. And that’s it! I hope you found this info useful, feel free to comment any questions you have and I’ll do my best to answer them!

https://imgur.com/a/5rioMS1Hi skincareaddiction! [misc] For routine questions, do you HAVE to post a shelfie?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everybody. I don't want to be annoying but at this point I'm genuinely wondering if I have done this wrong. I've posted help with a skincare routine maybe three times now (spaced out) - today was the first time in 9 days. I'm not getting any responses no matter what. The one and only response I got was either a bot or MLM sort telling me to send her my personal info so that I could get a "personal" answer. I didn't do that one just to be safe.I have checked out the skincare routine order on this sub, so I feel like I'm doing it right, but I just genuinely have been wanting to hear from a person, hear some personal stories about products, etc... but I just don't get answered on here. Should I post pics of my products as well? When I see routine questions that have pictures of their products included it's always 100+ comments. Is this what I am doing wrong? I've checked rules and I don't see anything, but if that's all I'm doing wrong I can totes repost with pictures included.

[Review] [Rave] Tranexamic Acid, Hyper-pigmentation on dark skin...A Tale.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'll try to keep this from being too long, this is my personal experience dealing with hyper-pigmentation on dark skin(black female) **Skip to the Asterisk to read about Tranexamic acid and my experience. My skin type is combo- oily in the summer and warm months- and some dry patches in the cooler months, also dealing with adult acne, and I'm in my 30s so there's the whole "anti-ageing" bit.I've dealt with acne since hitting puberty many eons ago, and have just recently manage to get it under control. But was with all of us who suffers from acne we know it's what comes after those pimples heal that's the real headache and that's the PIH-post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.Like everyone here/reading this, I did my research and tried everything that was recommended, in my earlier years I even tried hydroquinone, even with all the articles out there warming us about the dangers, and it worked for a little while, but made my face incredibly sensitive and made me look like one of those black people that was "bleaching" their skin, it was gross and I soon stopped. But the PIH didn't, so I moved on to good ol vitamin C, I tried it in every formulation, every strength, every price price point, I got a vitamin C peel at a spa once and that was biggest waste of $300 ever! I tried SkinCeuticals, Obagi, Sunday Riley, Vichy, PC, LRP, you name it I tried it! Even those off brands you get on Amazon that you've never heard of before, I thought Vitamin C was the answer because that's what all the skin care "experts" and articles were pushing.**I came across Tranexamic acid after I had just finished a bottle of the Obagi Professional-C Serum 20% and saw little result($127 down the drain again), so back to google I went..I was on Dermstore looking into buying a bottle of the SkinCeuticals Discoloration defense, it was $98, after the Obagi I honestly was not ready and willing to fork over another $100 for little to no results, so I decided to look into the ingredients, and that's where I saw this: 3% Tranexamic Acid: minimizes the recurrence of discoloration and stubborn brown patches with continued use.I googled it right away and soaked up all the information on it I could find, and the universe was obviously on my side this time because one of the google searches brought The Inkey List Tranexamic Acid Night Treatment $14.99, I say the universe was on my side because The Inkey list brand is only 2 years old(2018) and this product is one their newer products, any previous search for this would not was netted this result.**I purchased the product on Sephora, along with some other goodies from the same brand, waited longer the usual because of the pandemic related delays, and when I finally received it, I used it that same night! I didn't patch test or anything I honestly could not wait. The instructions were pretty clear, use as your last step in your PM routine, 1-2 pea size pumps, I started out with 2 pumps nightly after my full routine, as my last step and I started seeing results after 2 weeks! My PIH is all along with jaw line, and clusters on my cheeks from repeated breakouts that have come to form 1 giant brown blob of discoloration, the PIH along my jaw line that was spread out, started fading after 2 weeks, and the clusters on my cheeks took a bit longer but I can not tell you after 2 full months of diligent nightly application the clusters have faded drastically, there is no giant brown blob just small little hold overs that I am confident will go away, I don't experience any irritation, breakout or adverse reaction to this product, I brought a second bottle but I'm sure if I'll need it, but I'll evaluate when I get to the end of the first bottle, one last thing before I end this, I believe these results were also aided by use of once-twice weekly acid mask/peel like the one from The Ordinary that 30% AHA mask/peel, I have several options and I use them once or twice a week depending on the condition of my skin. Some tips: Vitamin C in the AM is still a legit source of antioxidant for your skin. Applying Alpha Arbutin before the Tranexamic at night will aid in fading of dark spots. I apply the Tranexamic acid all over my face I do not "spot" treat(it would be a waste of time and product) and unlike hydroquinone Tranexamic does not "bleach" or lighten your overall face, it seems to target the dark spots and patches and gradually fades them over time.I know this was long, but I hope it was informative and helps someone out there.P.S I'm sorry I don't have before and after pics I rarely take pics of my bare skin. Here's what PC has to say about Tranexamic acid - https://www.paulaschoice.com/ingredient-dictionary/miscellaneous/tranexamic-acid.html

[Routine help] People who workout midday, do you do your skincare routine 3 times a day? (am, after workout, pm)
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been trying to evolve my routines during quarantine and have been really good with my am and pm skincare routine. Around 2 weeks ago I started to do hiit workouts midday as it helps me keep my energy and productivity levels high throughout the day. Hiit workouts are quite sweaty and I feel that I really have to wash my face in the shower. This leads me to feeling the need to redo my skincare routine afterwards. As a result, I end up doing my skincare 3 times a day - is that weird? People who workout midday - do you do the same thing?

[PSA] Get a full skin cancer check (yes even in your 20s!)
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've always half joked it's not a matter of if, but when I have a skin cancer scare. I freckle if I so much look out the window, and 2/3rds of people recieve a skin cancer diagnosis at some point in Australia. But I still thought I was being a little overly cautious getting my GP to do a full mole scan at 25.Well lo and behold, I've just gotten home from having an iffy looking freckle removed from the back of my leg. I could barely see it because of the position, not coincidentally where I always forget to apply sunscreen. And though I've been concerned about others and had them looked at individually before, this tiny freckle didn't look at all unusual to my untrained eye. So it's pretty terrifying to think it could've easily gone unnoticed for years. The surgery itself was a breeze, ten minutes, one stitch and I was out the door. Awaiting the results of a biopsy now, and hopefully it was nothing. But if it is, then I'm likely to have caught it early. There's absolutely nothing to lose by getting a skin check. And you're never too young or too cautious!

[REVIEW] Thayer's Rose Water Facial Mist Spray -- two thumbs down
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Used to buy their stuff all the time, and it was always good. Not anymore. I bought some facial spray to use now that we are in summer. Rather than refresh, it leaves my face feeling dryer. I started looking at it because the label is a little different than it used to be and it now includes a bunch of crazy chemicals. I googled to see if they had changed their formula and it looks like that is a yes. They are getting sued about it. Anyone know what this lawsuit is about? Like is this stuff bad for you? https://topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/consumer-products/all-natural-products/927576-thayers-natural-class-action-alleges-false-natural-advertising/

My forehead was so clear, but recently started acting up :/ I think it was my acure brightening face cleanser which recently changed their formula that now includes alcohol and fragrance.. So I have dropped it and just started using Aveeno Ultra-Calming Hydrating Gel Cleanser..I also started using TO squalane oil. Here's a picture of my forehead..https://imgur.com/YpqQAnQIf you zoom in you can see tiny bumps. After I wash my face it gets shiny. Any advice would be appreciated.

[Misc] Any brands you're personally cancelling/never using anymore for good?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I recently found out about the VERY irresponsible and ignorant comments made by Drunk Elephant's founder on Instagram. She's claiming that the "sensitive 6" are the sole reason why people suffer from sensitivity, acne, and chronic skin conditions such as eczema, rosacea, etc. and kept harping on the "fact" that everyone's skin is the same. uhm WHAT!!!! cancelled. I couldn't even believe a skin care owner thinks of this. I then wonder why the brand has a bunch of products targeted for dull skin, acne-prone skin, dry skin, etc. if apparently, these conditions don't really exist according to the owner?? Not to mention their bizarre attacks that just scream petty, to other skincare brands.Anyways, besides DE I also cancelled Mario Badescu for an even more dangerous scandal: undisclosing steroids in their ingredients for the Healing Cream. So many ppl got TSW after that and as someone who has experienced that due to my severe facial eczema, I'm disgusted at how MB has done this to the general consumer population. Gross! Cancelled for life.Besides, DE is way too overpriced and MB products aren't even that good. Looks like I'm sticking to DECIEM all the way: Canadian, ethically-priced, offers free skin consultations, doesn't pay influencers to sponsor them, and most importantly, tries to inform the consumer of what their products and ingredients actually do! They're honest in their approach and even tell people not to try certain products due to their skin conditions, whereas DE is pushing all their products to everyone because their skin is all the same lol. I just hope DECIEM doesn't follow down the same rabbit hole that happened to Paula's Choice...

PSA about double cleansing [PSA]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Came to talk about the double cleansing method [routine]I have dry but acne prone skin and I constantly spend way too much time 2 inches away from the mirror which does not help. On a regular day, I wear IT cosmetics CC cream, tarte shape tape, setting powder, contour, blush and highlight... and eye makeup. so kind of a lot!Usually, I use Fresh soy face cleanser to wash my face at the end of the day and then I use a differen to help with the acne.. but 2 days ago, I started the double cleansing method because I never felt like my face was fully clean after washing... and let me tell you. MY PORES ARE GONE. I’m not kidding, I had SFs on my chin that are GONE, roughness under my eyes and by my nose, GONE, and all my redness and texture has been healing in an astonishingly short time. My skin has been GLEAMING. I’m just blown away.If you are a heavy makeup wearer.. I highly recommend trying this. I’ve been using the banila co clean it cleansing balm. That’s all!!

[Routine Help] What is a good oil cleanser to try to help get rid of sebaceous filaments?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I want to try oil cleansing to help get rid of constant sebaceous filaments on and beside my nose. I dont want anything that will add to my skin clogging though. Is there an oil cleanser that is known to be good for this? Should i just try rosehip or jojoba?

[Skin Concerns] Extremely bumpy skin texture for over a year. Please help
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’ve had these skin colored bumps on my skin for over a year now. It initially started after an episode of over exfoliation so I cut out exfoliants in total. Since then I’ve just stuck to a simple moisturizer (Cerave) followed by Vaseline at night because I have very dry skin.I thought after my barrier was healed, these bumps would go away on their own but they have been here for over a year. They never turn into pimples, and when I run my fingers over my skin, I can barely even feel them. They also don’t have anything to extract in them really. It’s hard to explain but they’re more like texture bumps rather than actual clogged pores/pimples. They make my skin look terrible, especially with make up on.These make me so insecure and I would really like some advice on how to get rid of them. If anyone had similar skin, please let me know if anything helped you. Here is an image: picture of bumps in cheeks

[Misc] My job in an environmental chemistry lab has an unexpected task for me...
Beauty Tips For Body Care
For one of our clients I have to take their spa-grade face masks and test them for falling within a threshold allowed amount of gold (prior this vendor was selling all kinds of face masks containing significant concentrations of gold and it was banned by the FDA).So...yeah. Call me a face mask chemist.

Don’t buy Beauty Counter! [Personal]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Beauty counter is a skincare brand with high quality, expensive “clean” beauty. The ingredient list is pretty good, however it comes at a high price ($50-$60). However, the price isn’t the reason why I avoid beauty counter (and you should too). Beauty counter is a form of MLM (multi level marketing). These companies pray on weak people, and 97% of people working as a “consultant” in one of these companies loses money. For more info you can visit r/antimlm . Supporting this company encourages the predatory behaviors and is just all around not good

Botched Mohs, need advice [personal]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Should I sue? What can I do? Botched MohsI’m so upset and need advice. I had a small (pimple sized) sore on my face that wouldn’t heal and sure enough, it was skin cancer. No worries, right? My derm scheduled an appointment for Mohs surgery. Well, instead of taking the usual 2-3 passes for cancer, my doc took 5 tries to get everything out. When it comes time to stitch me back she says I won’t like the scar and I can just tell she is nervous to do it. She suggests that I can have a plastic surgeon finish putting me back together. The next day I go to the plastic surgeon and it honestly seems like he’s on drugs or something, but I just want my face to be sewn up. He keeps changing the plan on how to fix my face. The end result is this crazy jagged line on my jaw. (See horrifying image)Anyway, while I don’t think the plastic surgeon did a great job, I feel like the dermatologist botched the original Mohs. I’m going to request my patient records and get a second opinion, but I feel like there’s NO REASON I should look like this right now and I’m so sad. What would you guys do? I’m just at a loss and want to cry every time I look in the mirror. photo of Frankenstein scar

[Product Question] Does anyone remember this product or something similar?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
When I was alot younger (think late 90s, very early 00's) I remember my mom having a cream that would basically extract your blackheads for you. You would put it on & a few hours later everything was sticking out of your pores--this was the best. Of course now 15-20+ years later I cannot remember what it was called & neither can she. Does anyone remember this product or can recommend a similar one?

[PSA] Be careful with your eye products!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello everyone! Please please please! Be careful with the eye products you use around your eyes. Many of the moisturizers or actives that we are putting around our eyes can be dangerously close to the membranes of the eyeball. If they enter the eye they can have some seriously devastating effects that can last years or be permanent.I was recently reminded of something that happened to me last year when I first got really into skincare - starting with correcting my “incorrectable” dark circles. It’s genetic and they will never be perfect, but every day I would get dangerously close to my eye.One night, I used a brand new (to me) product that I hadn’t used before and I got it in my eye. At first I didn’t really realize what had happened, but about 2 minutes later my eye started burning and went to wash my eye out with cold water. When I looked in the mirror I saw THIS and absolutely freaked out. The white part of my eye was completely swollen and I was going cross-eyed with double vision. After contemplating going to the ER, I ended up putting an ice pack on it for about an hour and it started to go down. Luckily I have no lasting damage, but you never really know what could happen. So don’t be like me. Be more careful with your eyes and research the proper ways to use eye cream!

[personal] having a skincare routine is the best thing I’ve done for self care since getting sober.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’m not sure if this is weird to say, but I love taking care of my skin and giving myself a nighttime and before work ritual has been such an amazing act of self-care.I’ve been depressed since I was 15, and always had red angry skin. I spent a lot of time being bounced around in foster homes so I never got to try out face washes so I just never cared. I always figured I wasn’t worth it. I never wore makeup and didn’t care to learn about much. Then, after I got sober and started going to therapy I began doing self-care but only as ultra-indulgent gifts to myself. If I wasn’t eating an entire cake it wasn’t self care. If I wasn’t buying 100$ worth of bath bombs it wasn’t self care. Now I see the balance. Washing my face at night isn’t “fun” but it’s a gentle way to remind myself “I’m worth it”. I’m worth buying product. I’m worth taking care of. Giving myself a little push to look, smell and feel nice is a little gift to myself every single day!Im still learning about the process but it’s been a rewarding journey to learn! I’m usually fickle with obsessions but I’ve been very consistent for about five months now and it feels great.I look in the mirror and don’t recognize myself honesty. I’m so much happier and also my skin is so much less angry. I even used a blackhead strip for the first time last night and damn, that needed to be done ten years ago.I wasn’t sure where to talk about this but I thought maybe y’all would understand!

[Review] The Inkey List customer service
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’d rate a 10/10 experience!Ordered an eyecream from lookfantastic (so not them directly), got a rash/reaction and e-mailed The Inkey List about it directly. Without asking for any further details they offered to ship me another eyecream and it just came in the mail :)I was not expecting a free product at all and they were so quick to find a “solution”. I have never before had such a smooth interaction so it leaves me pretty positive about the brand!Eye cream I ordered: Brighten-I.Eye cream they recommended and sent: Caffeine.

[Acne] After a year - I FINALLY solved the cause of my breakouts!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I posted in this sub about 6 months ago looking for ANY help with this persistent acne that was mostly cystic and mostly around my chin that I have struggled with for right at a year. (I'll link the original thread with the pictures/backstory at the bottom) I tried Tret, all the different acids, silk pillow cases, different moisturizers/cleansers/makeups/not wearing any make up...the whole nine yards. I even went to the beach (always does the trick) and it barely helped at all.So come quarantine, I was as bare faced as it gets for weeks at a time. Before, when I "didn't wear makeup" I still had mascara on because my lashes are blonde. In quarantine, I stopped wearing mascara....every bump I had healed, and I got no new ones. Thinking it couldn't POSSIBLY be my mascara, I tried putting it on one more time. Overnight I got 3 new cystic bumps on my chin. Since that day, I switched mascaras from Lash Paradise to Essence, I have not had one single breakout in a full month now. IT WAS MY DANG MASCARA THE WHOLE TIME! I would have never known if it hadn't been for quarantine as I never go that long without wearing mascara. Just thought I would throw it out there for anyone that has tried everything...give switching out mascaras a try!https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/ds1ceu/acne_terrible_abnormal_flare_up_around_my_mouth/?ref=share&ref_source=link

[PSA] Explaining how brands get 100s of 5star reviews before a product is released
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey guys - I posted this on a thread recently and thought I would share here for anyone curious. We've seen a ton of beauty brands either buy reviews, create fake reviews, or otherwise have us be skeptical. How can a new brand already have 500 reviews on their products on Sephora? Why are the reviews all too good to be true?I worked at a product sampling company for 2.5 years and we generated 1000s of reviews for CPG brands including lots of beauty brands. The method is targeted, honest, and completely legal. This is pretty much what the process looked like:- Brand we're working with says they have a new product launching on x date, and they want reviews ready on websites on the same day. We run the sampling campaign in 'secret' with consumers MONTHS before the launch date. The brand pays us for the service of running the campaign: creating surveys, managing communications with consumers, shipping products, doing research, working on agreements with the websites and retailers, etc. almost like an agency. The reviews themselves are paid for because we help generate them, but the content of the reviews is not.- Consumers are targeted based on their demographics and preferences through a survey. For example, a new serum comes out and the brand is looking for 250 reviews from females age 18-35, shop high-end beauty only, make over 60k a year, prefer organic products and don't currently use brands x, y, z. The survey is multiple choice and we ONLY send the sample/product out to consumers who fit in each of this criteria.- Consumers receive the product at home through shipping. THEY ARE NOT PAID. Or at least in my last company we never did, and our competitors didn't either. We only ask for HONEST REVIEWS of the product and usually people are more than happy to write high-quality reviews in exchange for trying something for free, and before anyone else. We can't control what the reviews say, or what they look like. Most of the time the product is actually amazing so our community members love it, and write a great review with 5 stars. There are rare times where a product doesn't do too well, but the reviews will still go out to websites because they have to. It's helpful too because these negative reviews could be informative for the brand.- Post-trial, we survey the consumers again to collect their /5 star review, and other questions potentially for research.- On the day the product is launched, the reviews show up on e-commerce sites so consumers are well-informed before they buy.- Legal stuff: companies who do this always make sure they comply with FTC regulations and other required laws. We operated in the US and Canada, so always made sure that any consumer was well aware of how their review would be shared. They agree to terms and conditions that their review, with their nickname, would be posted to other websites and our partners. Anyone who said "no" would never have their review go through. There might be concern in the fact that we would only send the product to people who really liked it. But that's the whole point. If you have acne and oily skin, why would you trust a review for an anti-acne product from someone with dry skin?I believe this process started with good intentions - to make sure we all read reviews that are relevant to us. Unfortunately it's taken a horrible turn and now we're hesitant to trust reviews at all. I'm not speaking for companies like Sunday Riley who actually committed crimes and should be held accountable. Not all brands follow this process I've outlined, but most of them do for sure.

[ROUTINE HELP] Fellow Muslim SCAs - what’s your sc routine before, after and in between washing your face (for wudu) 5x a day for our daily prayers?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Now that Ramadan is over and I’ve finally got to reading all my 5 prayers. This means washing my face several times a day. I’m going to now hopefully continue with my five prayers every day so I’m wondering what do other Muslims do with their skincare routine? When do you use your products and do you then reapply them after washing your face?My routine:AM: CeraVe hydrating cleanser - Moisturiser Aveeno lotion - Cosrx Aloe Vera SPF50PM: Garnier miceller water - CeraVe hydrating cleanser - Rose water as Toner - TO Niacinamide & Zinc - Ole Henriksen c-rush Eye cream - Aveeno lotion - TO Rose hip oilAfter each prayer, I reapply my Aveeno lotion but I feel like I’m constantly moisturising and my previous products just go to waste since I’m only wearing it for a few hours.Sorry for my layout 🥴 on mobile.

[Acne] Need help with getting rid of mark/scar on nose
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I had a spot (or could even have been a cyst as I am unsure of what it was) for a few months but I let it build up and then it eventually popped. Since it has popped I have had this mark on my nose and I eventually got a scab but it has since come off as can be seen in the photos. I would really appreciate any help with what I can do/ who I can see or use to get rid of this mark as my skin is now looking the best since I have started to get acne but this mark is really taking away all my confidence. Please if anyone can help me.**My current routine is:****AM**: wet face with warm water in shower and put on simple daily skin detox purifying facial wash then wash off with warm water. Dry face with tissue when I'm out of the shower and put on clean & clear dual action oil-free moisturizer with salicylic acid.**PM**: wet face with warm water and put on simple daily skin detox purifying facial wash then wash off with warm water. Dry face with tissue then apply Duac once daily benzoyl peroxide cream which was prescribed to me by my doctor. As I have previously said I am desperate for help and any at all would help.https://preview.redd.it/m95e1cdpbx051.jpg?width=1700&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1ec7b115a2ef68135b173e28852afe6d502aabfa

[Skin Concerns] I got a facial one time in my life, and after that, my skin was never the same.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I got a facial maybe 3-4 years ago. A friend referred me to the place she was regularly going to and I got a discount for being referred so I thought I'd give it a shot.I didn't have any severe acne problems or anything going on with my face. The woman who did the facial told me my skin was dry but otherwise healthy. A dermatologist also has told me that my skin is healthy and my sun care efforts work for me.So after I got this facial, I have had acne consistently as an adult now for the past few years.I get acne mainly on my chin, sometimes on my nose, sometimes on my jawline and cheeks. I try not to pick at it and have basically completely fixed my skin picking habit.

Did anyone use BioOil to fade acne scars? [Product Question]

Hi, did any of you had success with bio oil using it for fading acne scars/marks on their face? Did it break you out? Irritate your skin? There are essential oils in there, so I'm curious if it will suit me after my accutane course. Thanks

[Miscellaneous] holy water was breaking out my forehead
Beauty Tips For Body Care
This probably seems like an obvious thing to most, but I think holy water was breaking my forehead out really badly. I'm a guy who usually goes to church every other Sunday. Whenever you enter or leave you usually cross yourself (involves touching your forehead) with the community holy water, which everyone else sticks their fingers in. Only reason I figured this out was because of gatherings stopped because of quarantine.

[Routine Help] Skin Care for African American Men
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello everyone, I am new here. I was just looking over this thread and figured I'd make a post.I have been trying to get my skin together for some time, since we're quarantined now I have the time to do so.I am 24 looking to fix dark marks under my eyes (even out my skin tone), reduce pimples and acne (I honestly don't get a lot of acne, but it can't hurt) and most importantly correct/prevent shaving bumps on my chin/neck.I have been using la Roche posay primarily and I did notice some improvements, but the dark marks don't seem to be going anywhere, nor do the shaving bumps. I've recently (within the last week) started using lumin to see how my skin responds. Can anyone suggest any products or routines?

[Personal] How can I help someone who feels depressed because of their skin?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi I’m posting to ask if anyone has any tips or advice as I’m sure people on here have unfortunately struggled with this kind of thing.I’m currently temporarily living with my older brother and long story short he has suffered from cystic acne for many years and has been constantly seeking ways to get rid of it.We have a 9 year age gap so growing up I’ve always idolised him and viewed him as this invincible figure haha. He moved out of home years ago and I go to university now so we don’t see each other much but now due to covid I’ve been staying with him for about 2 months and because I’m pretty much with him 24/7 I’ve noticed how much his skin affects him mentally, which is a side to him that I rarely seeI’ve always been aware of his struggles with his acne. I browse this subreddit quite a bit so I would try to give him tips over the phone on things he could do to help. Unfortunately even though he’s tries so hard, he gets cystic acne from time to time and now has scarring which he’s really insecure about. This breaks my heart. He comes across as someone who’s really confident but I’m sad that he has insecurities over this. The past few days especially he’s been quite depressed about it and I wish there was something I could do to help.I’m not looking for some miracle advice, maybe some tips or insight into your own experiences and if there is anything I can do to make him feel better. Sort of posting this for some reassurance really, thanks in advance and sorry if these types of posts aren’t allowed
