Dandruff Shampoo [ACNE]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I am looking for an effective dandruff shampoo that does not contain sulfates. Head and shoulders, nizoral, etc etc I have tried and they solve my dandruff issue but they break out the back of my neck with really cystic inflammatory acne. I am in desperate need of a shampoo that will help my dandruff without causing irritation and acne. Thanks!

[Misc] What are these tiny stone-like things on my face?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I get a decent amount of these very tiny stone-like things on my face. When they finally "come off", they leave a very small dent on my face that heals very quickly and the dent is no longer there like a month later. I'm not really bother by them too much but I am curious what they are and how they are caused? Not enough exfoliation, etc. Please throw out any names that you think this might be and I will google it to see if it's right. Thanks.

[Misc] Can I start using a cleanser before starting a routine?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm a 21M guy who has never had a skin care routine. My forehead and scalp has always been very oily (and just recently started to get a very small amount of acne) despite the rest of my skin being on the dry side, and I'm ready to actually take control of my skincare for once beyond just using hand lotion.I also saw a TikTok ("single guy life advice" kind of video) recently where this guy recommended using a cleanser and said he likes CeraVe Hydrating Cream-to-Foam Cleanser. My question is... can I just try out a cleanser in the meantime without actually starting a routine? I know the ScA routine recommends a cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen, but it requires more research than I have the time for right now. It seems like such a huge rabbit hole.I'm just trying to focus on self-care more, so any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

Hello! I currently live in Egypt and I’m moving to the US very soon. I’m aware that many skincare drugs require a prescription in the US. which is not the case here in Egypt!I’m currently using: -Tretinoin 0.05% -Azaleic acid -Hydroquinone -20% Salicylic acid peel -15%TCA -Local corticosteroids -Gentamicin creamMy question is, can I find these products easily in the US? Or should I bring a stock with me? Also, what American products do you recommend that I try?

[Acne] Breaking out more than ever and feeling hopeless. Looking for guidance on products and a routine for a 30F with oily skin.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
https://imgur.com/a/BOEsYdzI’m 30F and experiencing the worst skin of my life. I’ve always had some breakouts, but never this bad. I have oily skin that gets dry around pimples that are healing. I’m not on a hormonal birth control, not pregnant, and I hardly ever consume dairy. My current routine:AM - wash face with Dr Bronner’s Tea Tree bar soap - moisturize with The Ordinary’s Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA - apply Beauty Counter’s Countersun Daily Sheer Defense For Face – SPF 25 - apply Ulta face primer and then makeupPM - wash face with La Roche-Posay Effaclar Acne Face Cleanser (salicylic acid) - use micellar water on a cotton ball to wipe off any possible missed makeup - every other night I use Beauty Counter’s Counter+ Overnight Resurfacing Peel (AHA/BHA, lactic acid) - moisturize with The Ordinary’s Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA - benzoyl peroxide spot treatment on large zitsAlso about once a week I use The Ordinary’s Salicylic Acid charcoal face mask.I am allergic to benzoyl peroxide when used over a large portion of my face, so I only use a dab on the more stubborn zits. I have tried Curology and while it did help, I read a lot about not using Clindamycin long-term so I stopped about a month ago and my skin has just gotten angrier than usual.I’m trying to avoid the prescription route, but I’m losing hope. Any help is appreciated!

[skin concerns] burning skin

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I went to a dermatologist a few weeks ago. She examined the skin of my face and gave me adaferin for acne and c vital eye serum(both contain retinol) I also had my first medical facial cleansing.I rinse in the morning and apply moisturizer, and I apply these cremes every night as prescribed by the doctor. The thing is now my face burns, is flaky, the area around my eyes is red, burns and flakes too everytime i apply some kind of moisturizer after i apply these cremes.I'm afraid that my dark circles and scars will get worse this way. I really dont know why it burns and if i should continue to use them, since ive read that your skin needs some time to get used to retinols. The situation gets worse day by day. Any advice would help, thank you.

[skin concerns] there should be more studies with skincare on skin of colour

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Targeting skincare for skin of colour is a huge grey area!!!I think alot of evidence based research does not target skin of colour. If you read their location and look at their demographics most of skin results is based on their sample which is usually non skin of colour . That's why when someone like me uses this sub I get bombarded with a bunch of hate because what I do does not fit their norm.People easily categories about 3 and a half continents as skin of colour ethnics.I don't think the term should be used that broadlyI believe that skin care products and their efficacy should be tested on specific ethnic groups to decipher what correlations are seen and how well a product works for these groups. We all know what works for one person does not work for another. But quiet frankly not everyone skin is going to react to otc 'exfoliating products' for example.Dr dray is a good example of someone who specifically targets skin of colour when making recommendation I can't say she is the best. When I've interacted on line and spoke about what works and doesn't work for me like on this sub I get a bunch of down votes and bashing And sometimes people may think what is unsafe for them is unsafe for everybody. It's not until I had to cite someone like Dr dray to have people believe me.It's a shame as well because what's I know works for me for a while now will only be relevant when a relevant beauty guru has something to say about it.I can't wait for the new skincare line that actually products which work for skin of colour. Like I say I don't mean to use this term broadlyBut I have to spend so much money using higher percentage products by a derm because I can't get it otc. or I can't have specific treatments because it will cause hyperpigmentationOr I can't treat the hyperpigmentation because they have supposedly banned the holy grail ingredient scientists have made which I can only get by saying extortionate prices at a private derm.

[Product question] benefits of AHAs that BHAs do not have?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I use 2% BHA twice a week since I am very acne-prone and get a lot of texture from dead skin congestion. I've seen great results for improvement in acne and sebaceous filaments, but not sure about the dead skin part.I've seen a lot of articles and videos stating that AHAs basically work at the surface of the skin, and was curious if AHAs have any benefits that BHA doesn't have? I'm curious if incorporating an AHA product into my routine will help remove dead skin more effectively.I think Cerave released recently an acne gel that has both 2% BHA and AHAs (and also niacinamide), unfortunately it's not available where I live (at least not yet)I also use retinol twice a week.Thoughts?

[Routine Help] The Ordinary Natural Factors + HA Moisturiser stings my face

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I bought a set of The Ordinary products a couple of months ago.The squalane cleanser, Nicacinamide + zinc, Buffet, and the natural moisturising factors + HA moisturiserI have seen a very small improvement in my overall skin and I think I get fewer raised pimples.However... straight after applying the moisturiser, I get a stinging feeling all over my face. It's not horrible and it goes away within 5 minutes. It's been like that since the first day I used it.Do you guys have any ideas as to why it's doing this? Or suggestions on what might be a good moisturiser to go with this routine instead of the Ordinary one?My main concerns are congestion, scars, blackheads, fine lines. My skin is on the dryer side.TIA

[review] Light microneedling and skin botox at home for blackheads

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I apologize if this post violates any sub guidelines and will absolutely remove if needed but I do want others to know the way I found to completely eliminate the blackheads on my nose and make my skin appear poreless at home.I’m in the states and after going to a medspa place for this special facial where the women used some knock-off, non-injectable version of botulinum toxin on my skin in combination with microneedling and I realized she didn’t need a specific license to purchase the product, I bought some myself.Although she used one of those electric microneedling devices, I just use a roller and I only do my nose (the place where I get blackheads) and my forehead and I do it very lightly. If I do this when I notice my blackheads are really starting to bother me on my nose and I’m considering picking at them, I do this at night before bed and when I wake up, I literally have no visible blackheads or pores. And my forehead just looks really nice and young and healthy. Even though I don’t have blackheads on my forehead, it just makes the skin look amazing.I’m sure people will have some strong opinions about this but it’s such a popular treatment where I live and I’m using the same products as the people making money offering the service so I’m personally on board. Especially because the results are honestly unbelievably good.I probably remember to do this every couple of months and once I do it, I kick myself for waiting so long. It’s night and day.

[Routine Help] Skin is dehydrated no matter what I do

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have oily combination skin which was never dehydrated. Note that I also don’t have any active acne or pimples, I used to have textured skin but since I started using aziderm the texture has gone my only problem is pigmentation I started noticing my face feeling tight and dry immediately I go out but this doesn’t happen in my room. I use many hydrating products in my routine both morning and night and only use 1 active at a time. For my morning routine; - [ ] I only use joy face cleanser with ph of 5.5 (I’ve changed it as of yesterday and bought cetaphil gentle skin cleanser because the joy one wasn’t cleansing my face well and was leaving soapy residue). - [ ] Then I apply plum Bulgarian rose toner on cotton wool or Klairs supple preparation unscented toner (I alternate between these 2 as my first step on cotton wool it just depends on the one I’d see first) - [ ] Then apply 5 to 8 drops of Klairs supple preparation unscented toner again on damp skin - [ ] Then Klairs vitamin c - [ ] The cosrx snail 92 All in one moisturiser - [ ] Then neutrogena rapid wrinkle repair sunscreen it has retinol in it or I use biore watery essence sunscreen - [ ] I used the above routine during summer but my skin felt dry immediately I went out then since winter started I added Cipla excela oily skin moisturiser mixed with squalane oil after the cosrx snail 92 all in one moisturiser before my sunscreen, but even after this my skin still feels dehydrated but not as much as it did when I only used cosrxFor my night routine I use azelaic acid (aziderm 10%) 3 to 4 times a week I’ve been using this for more than a month now and I started slowly so didn’t face any major problems with it. On days I don’t use azelaic acid 3 to 4 times a week I have a hydrating routine which I use multiple layers of hydrating products then moisturiserFor my hydrating routine I use - [ ] 2 layers of Klairs supple preparation toner unscented, - [ ] 2 and a half pumps of Snail mucin 96 essence - [ ] Cosrx 92 all in one moisturiser then squalane oil - [ ] Now that winter has started I used Cipla excela moisturiser mixed with squalane oil - [ ] But I still wake up with slightly dry skinFor the neutrogena retinol sunscreen I use it only 3 times a week and the other weeks I use biore sunscreenEven on days I’m using azelaic acid I use my hydrating products I also don’t use any exfoliating acids so I don’t know what’s wrong with my face or routine Can you please tell me what’s wrong Not i don’t have dry skin I have oily skin my skin still produces oil but the skin feels dehydrated I also cleanse my skin well with cleansing oil and face washSomeone suggested adding a hyaluronic acid serum but I feel like it’s in many of our products and it’s not necessary to add an only ha serum, what do you think will it help

[Skin Concern] Has anyone done Candela V Beam laser therapy? (Red laser therapy?)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
About 15 weeks ago I was hit by a car on my bicycle. Among the variety of injuries I needed around 50 stitches to to my face due to two wounds. One above my eye and one just below. They were pretty deep (you could see my skull) and now I’ve got some remaining skin concerns im not crazy about (unsurprisingly). My plastic surgeon recommended me to dermatology. Derm did my consult last week and advised that I may not want to consider laser resurfacing and should instead do red laser therapy to reduce the red / pinkness of those areas on my face to better blend in with my natural skin tone.I’m not too familiar with this type of procedure. They did go over all the pertinent info with me but I’d be interested in hearing more about other peoples experiences. Has anyone done red laser therapy before? Especially for scars? For those that would like to see pictures and my scar care / routine / progress - I’ll post a thread on it at a later time. You’ll want some strong stomachs for it though.Appreciate any advice on this. Thanks!

I know everyone keeps swearing by it but my skin is very acne-prone, along with ten other issues and try as much hydration as I might, I’ve never actually noticed any substantial improvement because of it.Essentially, if I had to do a before/after of my skin just based on the levels of hydration, I really doubt there would be any noticeable change.I want to mention that I also have Rosacea and Vitiligo so my skin routine is pretty detailed and my skin is also more sensitive than usual.Question: Does hydration actually play that significant a role in skincare as everyone claims it does, especially when you’ve underlying skin conditions?

[skin concern] whitehead keeps refilling immediately. I’ve been through 7 pimple patches in a row with no end in sight?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Apologies because I have no pics of this because I assumed it was a normal situation and the original whitehead itself is gone.My skin is typically sensitive to me missing a night washing it. It happens rarely but I tend to break out immediately after. I had the tiniest bump the night prior which I had not touched, only treated with BP. Next morning I woke up and it’s a massive pea sized whitehead with multiple heads. I could feel it as I moved my mouth and i ran to the bathroom to watch it pop by itself due to just the movement of my mouth.I thought it was odd it would fill so much and so fast overnight but whatever, and I slapped a pimple patch on it. The patch filled right away and when I took it off it was like a freaking nesting doll. Another whitehead inside what popped. I do admit I applied some pressure in case I could just get the rest out but nothing came so I re-patched it. Repeat process 6x over with large opaque white absorb spots each time. When I take it off now there’s no more heads that I can see but it looks like a hole almost, and is still leaking white fluid (albeit more slowly now).At this point, my skin is raw and irritated from so may patch reapplications. Should I continue to replace them as protect from infection as the pimple was pretty deep and left an open crater thing. Or should I give the surrounding skin relief and just let it fill out again?TLDR monster whitehead is taking 7 + patches to drain. What should I do??

[routine help] 31/male beard routine help when everything breaks you out!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
31/M struggling with new skincare routine for beardFirst time I’ve posted here—I had acne in my teens, and always struggled with shaving/beard care. Essentially, I would shave every 3-4 days to avoid the inevitable red patchy, itchy irritation that shaving would reveal. Acne cleared up in my early 20s.Fast forward to March 2020, now 31, when I introduced beard oil (mix of jojoba and argan oil) to my routine and it kept the redness at bay for at least a few more days. But a few months ago, I got on here and read all the advice and products and decided to do something about my skin care routine.I was convinced I needed a cleanser, toner, moisturizer—at the very least. I tried Avene Tolerance Cleasing Lotion, Avene Tolerance Emulsion, LRP Cleanser, Hada Labo Toner, Cerave PM, Cerave in the jar, LRP Toleraine Double Repair Moisturizer, Cetaphil Oil-Control Moisturizer, and probably more. I introduced them one at a time, and ALL of them broke me out beyond a normal “purge” anywhere I applied them. When my beard would get longer (3-4 days), I’d add beard oil to the routine.I should add that I have eczema and apply cetaphil cream to my entire body every day (not to my face).I’m left now with a broken out, red face every time I shave (chin, mustache area, cheeks). My skin is soft AF, but looks awful. You can see the acne and redness developing beneath the beard…My routine rn is Avene cleansing lotion in shower, pat dry, Avene emulsion, and then beard oil if 2-3 days into beard growth. Same at night. Is there something obvious I’m doing wrong? I didn’t have acne until I started with all these products, so I don’t think I need an acne treatment… Should I go back to just the beard oil? Help!!!

[Acne] Help!! Swelling after attempting an extraction - how to reduce?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have two active deep pimples on my forehead that I’ve been treating for a few days. One of them came to a little head and I stupidly tried to squeeze it. I ended up extracting one but the other one close to it is angry! That entire area swelled up and although the redness is gone my forehead looks like there’s a giant lump underneath from the swelling. I feel so stupid and don’t want to leave the house tomorrow if it doesn’t go away. Is there anything I can do to help it?

Is it really terrible to leave sunscreen on overnight just once?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So from reading many posts here, general consensus is to definitely remove sunscreen before going to bed. However in my case, I went and had a professional facial done at around 8pm. I plan to go to bed around 10-11pm. For some reason, the esthetician applied sunscreen on me (the sun was already down so idk why she chose to do this) after applying all of the other serums and creams. She told me to remove it before bed with a cleansing wipe.Wouldn’t using a wipe also remove all of the beneficial serums and creams applied to my face? After an expensive treatment, I wanted to keep those products on overnight, but I’m also worried that the sunscreen might clog my pores. What should I do?

[Skin concern] Waxing and retinoid?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I wax my upper lip and chin once per week as I have excessive hair growth in the area due to hormonal issues. Now, I would like to incorporate a retinoid into my routine (maybe the granactive retinoid from The Ordinary to start with). But I have heard one shouldn't use a retinoid atleast until two weeks after having waxed. Is this true? If it is true, I guess I would never be able to use a retinoid. Shaving is not an option as the hair growth would be much quicker making it very inconvenient. Can anyone speak for their experiences with waxing and retinoid?

[PSA] CeraVe in a tub and I did not get along, until I started applying it to WET skin, and may i suggest Avene Thermal Spring Water?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm living in a part of the world that is frigid, dry, and has some of the hardest water I've ever encountered. I DID NOT get the whole spray water thing until I moved here and discovered how helpful it is to use one of those mists to counteract the calcium and minerals that can build up on my skin. Then, I tried something and it worked like freaking magic.I cleanse. I spray. I wipe. I treat. Then I spray again, and apply CeraVe in a tub.WHAT??For years, this product just sat on top of my skin and felt gross and weird and ineffective. I thought my skin was damp enough (that's something that is very much on my radar for all my products), but the idea of putting it on *wet* never occurred to me. I'm so glad it finally did.So. I know I'm not the only one on here who has struggled to get that tub to work for them, so I thought i'd share my super basic lil' PSA.

[acne] I feel like crying…

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’ve struggled with acne since highschool. I’m now a 22yo woman and I’m still breaking out and I feel like a teenager. I’ve been on differin for a month and I haven’t seen much progress which I understand is normal. But i’ve seen an increase in tiny clogged comedones on my forehead. I picked at one this morning and now it’s all red and angry. I don’t want to go to work tomorrow especially because my colleagues have perfect skin:( and I have trouble leaving my house because I don’t want people to see my skin. I feel like I’ve done so much to prevent acne, but nothing helps. I eat healthy and clean, drink enough water, wear sunscreen, wash my face x2 a day, change my pillowcases often, use treatment as instructed, and get at least 6 hours of sleep every night, but I still end up with pimples. I feel so discouraged and I just feel like giving up. I want to see a dermatologist but I can’t because my parents refuse to get health insurance, my work provides shitty insurance plans, and I don’t qualify for medicaid. Any advice? Thanks in advance

[skin concerns] What are some of your favourite products for fading hyperpigmentation?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’ve been testing several products over the years and my skin has gotten better but I’m still left with some scarring. Through trial and error I’ve discovered that I’m sensitive to Niacinamide. I’ve also learned that Vitamin C doesn’t do much for me. I’m really trying to not get discouraged but it gets very frustrating trying to find something that my skin likes.I’ve been using the ordinary glycolic acid every other day and the aha+bha mask and it irritated my skin. It looks like it made certain parts, especially on my forehead which is already quite dry, darker. This has never happened to me before. I was hoping it would get rid of some of the texture on my forehead but it looks like it’s done the opposite. Now I’m starting all over and looking for something that will fade my existing scarring and prevent future scars. I’m also taking this as a sign to revamp my skincare routine. Thanks so much for your help!

[Skin Concerns] need pyrithione zinc in non-soap non-shampoo form

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Location: U.S.I need to beat the malessezia folllicultis on my face but bar soap and (God forbid) dandruff shampoo are too harsh for my atopic excema skin to handle and cause painful dryness/burning itchy rashes that last for weeks. Basically I can't tolerate anything on my face but the mildest sls free soap-free cleansers known to man (cerave, vanicream).... for some stupid reason they only put antifungals in harsh soaps and shampoos, as if dandruff treatment is the only use for these medications.I've tried sulfur ointment but that is harsh as well.Fluconazole pills work like magic but I can't keep taking them due to complications."Fungal acne" is such a common buzzword, I can't believe no one has formulated a face-friendly product for antifungals, instead dermatologists are still telling people to rub shampoo on their faces like it's the dark ages. And if you can't handle it due to rosacea or eczema or some other inflammatory problem then you're chips out of luck. If there is a pyrithione zinc or some other antifungal in a gentle vehicle I can tolerate I would be grateful to know 😣

The problem is the morning after I always wake up with bumps on my forehead and a few white heads here and there. [Routine Help] How to properly use and layer Vitamin C, Hydrating and Retinol serums?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello! It’s my first post on here and i’m in need of your help! I’m concerned about how to use my new skincare additions. I bought some Medik8 products as C-Tetra serum (oil-based), Hydr8 B5 serum (water-based), Intelligent 3TR Retinol serum (oil-based).My plan was to use Retinol in my PM routine and Vit C and B5 in my AM routine, but then i got a little confused in which order i should apply these products and if it even was the right decision to use B5 with Vit C in the morning and not with Retinol in the evening. And these are the facts that confused me, they’re like completely opposite to each other, so what rule to follow? 1. If you’re using a few serums together, you should use water-based first and then follow up with oil-based. 2. It’s better to apply Vit C serum straight on the skin before any other products. 3. B5 should be applied to damp skin and Vit C to dry skin. And if i would use B5 with Retinol in the evening instead, what would go first, B5 or Retinol?Right now my routine looks like that; step by step: AM: • Face cleanser • Rose water • Vit C • B5 • Day moisturizer & SPF PM: • Face cleanser • Retinol • Night moisturizerThere was no irritation so far from Vit C and Retinol being applied on the bare face so far, but please help and tell me if i’m using products in my routine in the correct order or what should i change to get the best results from the products?

[Routine help] Inconsistency with how skin acts after cleansing. I'm baffled... Give me face cleansing 101 (using LRP toleriane gentle hydrating atm)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey, hope everything is well skincare friend. I have had this problem for ages:One evening I wash my face, put on moisturizer and it feels fine. Second day it's irritated. Third day there's redness and irritation. Fourth day it's fine. Fifth day moisturizer won't sink in and so forth...I always think it's about HOW I wash my face (what kind of technique I use). I change these up all the time. These things I have NEVER found a good answer for:How long should I let the facial cleanser sit on my face? (esp. gentle cleansers)How much water should I splash the face with? (3 times? 5 times? 10? until it feels a certain way? is "too much water" a thing?)Should I run the water down on my face with my fingers (massage) or literally just "splash" (I'm not convinced that this concept is even clear to me...)Should gentle hydrating cleanser be somehow sunk in my skin for the healing agents to work? Should it be kind of a "moisturizer" and then I wash off the residuals?Should the face be wet before cleanser or dry? What amount of cleanser and moisturizer? (please no "pea size", or "nickel size" I don't eat peas and in my currency there's no nickels)I swear I cannot find good answers to this whole thing. Each video I watch just skips the water splashing part and rushes through massaging and I'm not sure if it should be even the same procedure with foaming vs gentle hydrating cleansers. If somebody would give me a peace of mind on this matter, I would be eternally grateful. I've struggled with skincare problems 9 years, and this is a big part of it. (very difficult skin)P.S. My routine:Morning: nothing (I used to wash my face in mornings for ages, but I found it is too much. It feels that even water irritates my skin... Is this even possible?)Evening: cleanse with LRP gentle hydrating, and use ceralan plus moisturizer. I used cerave in tub for quite a while but it feels weird on my skin after some hours

How can i be extra cautious?Ingredients: Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Retinol, Sodium Hyaluronate, niacinamide, 1,2-Hexanediol, Polysorbate 20, Tocopheryl Acetate, Rosa Damascena Ext, Lavandula Angustifolia Flower Ext, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Ext, Melissa Officinalis Leaf Ext, Artemisia Vulgaris Ext, Disodium EDTAWhat is your favorite retinol product?

[Personal] Shaved and now my skin is inflamed

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’m not going to share any photos since it’s NSFW but as a warning this post will be somewhat graphic. I shaved my inner thighs/crotch with hair buzzers a month ago and since then the skin between my scrotum and thigh is now bright pink. This skin is almost like scar tissue in a way it’s easy to tear and bleed, it smells weird, and it’s like excreting at times (water?).I used peroxide for the first week and it got better but it’s still there so now I’m using lotion. I’m just a little freaked out and even my girlfriend noticed it and said what happened your skin looks like scar tissue? I tried doing some research but I couldn’t find anything similar to my issue. I would appreciate any help/advice thanks in advance!

[Product Question] By Wishtrend hissing sound when opening

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I just bought By Wishtrend Pure Viramin C 21.5% from Douglas. At first I noticed the bottle cap was a bit dirty, seemed like some of the product had spilled a bit but the cap was still shut. Weird, but ok.Then when I tried opening it I heard a hissing noise - similar to when you open a soda pop - and a few bubbles raised to the top of the product.Should I be concerned? I’ve never used this brand before and this doesn’t seem normal.

[Acne] How I finally cured my body acne (chest acne)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
One day 2 years ago I woke up with chest acne (and mild shoulder/back acne). I had no clue how it happened and the last 2 years I have struggled to clear it. I’ve tried many many things. I’d like to share what finally worked for me to help anyone who might be struggling with this.I stopped showering twice a day and only once at nightI stopped using harsh cleansers on my body and now use CeraVe’s Hydrating Cleansing Bar on my whole body (besides my face)I apply CeraVe SA Lotion after I shower on my body where I see acne (chest, shoulders and upper back)This has completely cleared me up in less than a week.Feel free to ask any questions of what worked and didn’t work. Thanks for reading.

[Skin Concerns] how to get rid of peach fuzz on my face

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’m looking for suggestions on how to get rid of peach fuzz on my face (a few darker/more coarse hairs here and there). I called the salon near me to inquire about IPL, but they suggested it probably wouldn’t be effective because hair is too light and thin. They suggested dermaplaning, which I already do. Looking for something more long term or permanent! (and not doing electrolysis around my whole face 😑)

[Routine Help] Good routine for a 14 year old boy with fairly good skin?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have pretty normal skin, not oily, not dry either, the nose area does get oily sometimes. But i have pretty decent skin, no acne, some pimples pop up here and there but nothing too big, usually they shrink in a few days. But i do have red spots/bumps, but they're very small. I have some blackheads, mostly on the nose, some sebaceous filaments, also on the nose. I would like to get rid of thoseI have been reading a lot about skincare recently, but i still dont have much knowledge on the topic: so i figured getting help from people who know about it would be good.I know about the most basic stuff, cleansing, moisturizing, sunscreen, small knowledge on exfoliating and exfoliants, have also read about retinoids (retinol to be exact) i dont know if those are practixal for me. But i really dont have any idea on what to do or what products to get, i just need a simple routine that would work and some product recommendations for a newbie like me. Thank you very much,

[skin concern] just started retinol & vitamin C — new pimples in 2-3 days?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi! I just started using a retinol (glossier universal pro-retinol) as well as a vitamin C serum to combat acne/maskne/scars. My skin is used to actives like BHA.I started this past Saturday and have only used the retinol once so far (sticking with once a week at night to start). I’ve been using the vit C in the mornings since Saturday.New pimples appeared on my face a couple days after (former small bumps that became pimples, and new pimples in sporadic areas). These pimples actually don’t hurt or itch AT ALL strangely, they’re just new and there. Is this considered purging or a breakout from the products? Should I continue to use them?Thank you!

[Routine Help] Cerave cream alternative?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
What are your alternatives for cerave cream? I use it everyday and night on my face and have done so for years, I don't mind it but it does tend to sting my face, not sure why. I don't get breakouts from it, but it's very basic and I'm looking to change it up a bit as I'm getting bored with my skincare routine.I've tried curel intense moisture cream but it tends to ball up on my face and as I live in Australia I had to get it shipped from overseas, the courier company had it for weeks and I've noticed it has a weird plastic smell to it, I'm not sure if it's supposed to smell like that or if the courier company left it in the sun and made the product faulty. Alas, I'm looking for something without silicones so it doesn't ball up on my face. Thanks guys

[Misc] Working with your menstrual cycle (skincare focus)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
This post was inspired by one asking People with oily skin, do you follow a different routine around your periods?. Which was once a whole hobby of mine 😂 because I had acne, sensitive skin and PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, which is basically PMS, only depression-level).My skin always flared up in the two weeks before, and as u/kaliroger said, it felt like all my progress would go down the drain every month 😅 It felt like a never-ending battle. And even derms would be like: that's that hormonal acne 🤷🏽‍♀️ That, and my terrifying PMDD got me real desperate to figure out what I could do to make life better. And I did! 😆I figured how to work WITH my cycle instead of being an unwilling participant and simply hating it... which, I really did hate it 😅 People usually call this "cycle syncing" or "cycle mapping", and it can be done to great effect with exercise, skin, nutrition, mood - the whole holistic package! Now I'm at peace with my cycle, and appreciate it for what it is, how it serves as a reminder of my connection with nature... and keeps me humble 😐 Sounds hippy dippy, but what can I say... I am hippy dippy 😂✨ I do STRONGLY recommend any of y'all with a period to TRACK YOUR CYCLE. Tracking my cycle allowed me to catch a serious health problem very early. Thankfully, I was able to seek treatment ASAP, and have a clean bill of health today 😌🙏🏽 If there's one thing you take away from this post, let it beTRACK YOUR PERIODI use the Clue app, and have for four or five years. Now I have Data with a capital "D" about my cycle 😂So this is how you can use skincare to support your skin health throughout, and prevent hormonal acne as much as possible, by having good foresight! There are four phases to the menstrual cycle, and each causes hormonal changes in the integumentary system - skin, hair and nails.🌑 WEEK 1: Menstruation - Soothe and hydrateLow estrogen, low progesterone, prostaglandins at the end of bleedingDay 1 is counted as the first day you experience bleeding, so you might be having cramps, stomach trouble and all sorts of discomfort, but relief from the hormonal buildup has also started to happen! You'll feel your energy levels and body begin to gain strength again. You may have stopped getting new pimples and breakouts, but your skin is at it's most sensitive... you may also still be breaking out 😅 Period stuff is YMMV at its finest 🤷🏽‍♀️Focus on soothing and repairing your skin. Think damage control, and supporting your skin's wound HEALING ability. Use soothing ingredients and products that you KNOW are tried and tested for you, that your skin likes. No new products!Right after your period ends, you might experience dehydration, due to a sudden rise in prostaglandins. So you wanna provide extra hydration and you can use slightly more emollient/occlusive barrier repair products without fear of breaking out. Well done for getting through the winter phase, skin! 🥰 Nourishment and support for you! ❤🌒 WEEK 2: Follicular Phase - Stimulate and experimentHigh estrogen, low progesteroneIt's ✨charmed✨ week! When you feel great, you look your best, your skin is glowy and resilient, spring has sprung, vasant rithu is ON! 😆😆😆 You'll have that inner Glow, and your skin's healing ability is at an all-cycle high! It's time to try new products! Using something new at this point in your cycle gives it the best possible shot. It's also the best time to start an active like vitamin C, that can be irritating. Yes, you may still experience irritation in the coming weeks, but it gives you the best possible start 😤 If something breaks you out this week, it breaks you out. It simply does not suit you.Pain tolerance is also at an all-time high, so this is the best time to get waxed, threaded, etc. Not only will it hurt less, but you'll experience less irritation, and you'll heal from what irritation you do get much faster!Ditto for any procedures like extractions, microneedling, laser, peels - hell, even actual surgical procedures! If you have the option to choose when to schedule them, pick this week in your cycle.🌗 DAY 14/MID-CYCLE: Ovulation - Clear pores and prevent acneHighest estrogen, low progesterone, bump in testosteroneA spike in testosterone may cause a random pimple or two at this point, but it will heal fast, and you'll be at max glow still ☺Acne that emerges during the second half of the cycle, during PMS, is a flaring up and inflammation of clogged pores that were already there. So NOW is the time, while your skin is still resilient, to focus on exfoliation and clear out all the clogged pores that would be NBD - if they didn't end up turning into acne at the end of the cycle 😅The Ordinary/ Minimalist Peeling Solution! This is your time to shiiiine! 😂Now is the time for a facial, Fiddysnails's pore cleansing method (which became a trend called "gritting"), or simply a meticulous, thorough oil cleanse to clear out clogged pores. If you have active acne or redness, DO NOT do prolonged massage. You may spread bacteria and increase heat and inflammation. You can follow Fiddysnails's method, massaging LIGHTLY, no more than a minute, to oil cleanse - no longer than you would on a daily basis. The method will still be effective ☺Some women may find they can do these steps in week 3, as well. Everyone's body is different. Observe your own skin, and adjust as per your own unique pattern of changes 🤗❤🌔 WEEK 3: Luteal Phase: Oil controlLower estrogen, rising progesteroneThis is when you may start to experience oily skin. Some women may not experience this till the end of the week, or even the start of week 4, some may start getting oily as soon as they're done with ovulation. This week is all about oil control and gentle chemical exfoliation. 'Tis the time for CLAY MASKS and BHAs. Some people's skin can handle oil cleansing massages during this phase, mine cannot 🤷🏽‍♀️ I have sensitive skin, so I keep massages for closer to ovulation time. You could consider upping your cleansing game one notch. If you usually rinse with only water in the morning, a gentle cleanser might help. If you use gentle cleansers already, you skin might benefit from a foaming one during this half of your cycle. Might be some options to consider - remember to observe your skin condition. Your skin's response will tell you if you're causing too much dehydration! You want to really be getting the most use out of your BHAs and niacinamide at this stage. If you use a BHA twice a week, you could add an extra day. Ditto niacinamide. If you're already using a BHA, an AHA or azelaic acid daily or regularly, don't overdo it, stick to adding a clay mask (or two) in there. If you have dry skin, maybe a lactic acid mask. You're already doing enough 😌Over production of oil can be somewhat balanced by providing more hydration, to balance oil-water levels. More hydration, less emollients/occlusives!Dialling back on the thick moisturisers is a good idea. Perhaps a plain aloe gel over your serum is enough. Maybe you just use less moisturiser. Skip the facial oils till after your period. Cut down the number of steps in your routine. There's a lot you can do to handle sebum production and prevent breakouts, simply by holding back on over-moisturising at this point. Less is definitely more!🌔 WEEK 4: Cool and soothe pre-menstrual inflammationLow estrogen, high progesteroneYour skin will now be peak sensitivity and oiliness, and you're probably breaking out 🙃 Autumn is upon us, and the body is withdrawing to deal with Very Important Inner Matters 🧐As in the menstrual phase, you wanna avoid new products. Use soothing products you know your skin likes. For me that's mixing a quarter teaspoon zinc oxide powder into my night moisturiser, with three or four drops MCT oil to offset the slight drying effect. My skin is visibly calmed the next morning 😌 Work smarter, not harder! 😂❤Keeping your face cool helps calm and soothe breakouts, preventing them from getting worse. Doing soothing, cooling face packs - aloe, potato, cucumber, oats, gel packs... All of that really helps to prevent the sensitivity from resulting in actual pimples, and speeds healing. I have a DIY gel masks post, if that interests you.Even just soaking oats in water for a couple hours, and then blending them smooth, keeping that in the fridge. Amazing for soothing and cooling. Add some honey for extra hydration. Yum yum 😂Keeping aloe gel in the fridge and doing a thick layer as a mask, then washing it off is the easiest option 🤔 You could also get those DIY blank sheet masks and soak them in green or black tea and use those. If you have a sheet mask brand that suits you, using that after keeping it in the fridge...Korean people talk about skin temperature all the time, and it's now become a mainstream thing - like how heat can trigger melanin production and worsen melasma and hyperpigmentation. Also, apparently a one degree Celsius increase in temperature can increase sebum production by ten percent 🤯 Cooling your skin is really effective and underrated! HIGHLY recommend for those with inflammatory acne, redness, and sensitive skin, regardless of menstrual cycle.Cooling does NOT mean using ice directly on your face, that shit can give you burst capillaries. Extreme temperatures are never a good idea for skin!Continue to keep your skincare light if your skin is particularly oily. And sit tight ❤ As with the seasons, this too is a phase that will pass 😌❤In summation:Many of us who have already come a long way to figure out our own skin probably do most of these things without consciously thinking about it. After a point, you do get to a place where you intuitively react to your skin's condition, how it looks, feels, and responds to touch. For some of us, this way of structuring might just be making a connection with our menstrual cycle we weren't previously consciously aware of doing. I hope you found something of interest or value to you here ☺For those who are struggling with acne and hormonal breakouts, perhaps this angle of approach may be a game changer! I know that not everyone has a regular menstrual cycle AT ALL, and PCOD/PCOS can make things seem totally unpredictable and out of control. Counter-intuitively, it might be observing your skin condition that gives you clues about your menstrual cycle, instead of the other way around! Even with a regular cycle, these guidelines are not hard and fast. Each phase rolls over into the next without clear demarcation, the labels are merely for ease of understanding 😅 Hopefully you find some info here that helps you make the best of your personal situation and get to know your own personal patterns well ❤Viewing our bodies and our natural cycles as something to be conquered or ignored usually leads to resentment and anger towards ourselves, in my experience 😅 It did for me, anyway. I was antagonistic towards my body. Competitive, rather than collaborative. There's a whole patriarchy angle to that, but I'm not gonna get into it 😂 Embracing our feminine energy, and our connection with nature through our own bodies can be a profound, self-actualising journey on every level, and skin can be an amazing entry point to that. Soft power! 😤 South Korea knows what's up!Here are a few SKINCARE ARTICLES on the menstrual cycle, that I used as reference:✨ Clean Beauty School article✨ This Is When Your Skin Will Be Amazing, According To Your Period✨ A good, simple infographic that sums it up. I got it from this post, on r/SkincareAddiction 😆🙏🏽Here are a few ARTICLES ON CYCLE-SYNCING:✨ The Menstrual Cycle: Nutrition, Training & Fat Loss✨ How To Be More Productive (Not Less!) By Harnessing The Power Of Your Menstrual Cycle✨ Menstrual cycle mapping: How women can improve their productivity and health, period.✨ How to Work with Your Period, Not Against ItIf you suffer from extreme cyclic acne, PMS or PMDD, severe breast pain during PMS, etc, I would recommend you consult and take the guidance of a trained professional - there is no substitute for qualified gynaecologists, dermatologists and nutritionists. You can consult with your doctors if it is safe FOR YOU to try seed cycling, or take evening primrose oil supplements during the second half of your cycle. You can also check out r/PMDD.If you're interested in being more aware and accepting of the emotional cycle that accompanies menstruation, the Hormone Horoscope app was super helpful for me, to be able to predict and adjust my behaviour and responses. It helped me get over my fear of PMDD and releasing control, by making things very matter-of-fact. Highly recommend! 😆❤I, personally, used to be a lot more careful to track my period and sync my skincare, do seed cycling etc, when I was experiencing active acne and fungal acne, PMDD, severe mastalgia (breast pain) etc. My mental health has come a LONG way since then, resulting in a huge reduction in symptoms ☺🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 I've also gotten to understand my own skin and how to care for it.These days, I'm not super careful about the skincare aspect. My acne is well under control. My routine provides good prevention and maintenance regardless of where I am in my cycle. I'll get a few small breakouts and do a few soothing face packs during week 4, mix in zinc oxide with my night moisturiser and that's it. I no longer do seed cycling, as I find taking evening primrose oil during the second half of my cycle reduces my PMDD symptoms to a manageable level. I'm super grateful to be able to relax now that my hard work and research has paid off 😂🙏🏽It's my hope that this will help some of y'all, too 🤗❤ Thanks for reading! Byeee!

[skin concern] doxycycline for mild case of closed comedones

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I had my first dermatologist appointment yesterday. I’ve been experiencing a mild yet very persistent bout of closed comedones and blackheads for the last couple of years. My cheeks and forehead are the worst. But my chin is full of blackheads. My GP got me on epiduo but it did nothing except for irritate my face. The dermatologist put me on 6 weeks of doxycycline and a tretinoin cream. My concern is that most people seem to only be on doxy for severe cystic acne and not closed comedones. Does anyone have any experience with this type or regime? I worry because I know doxycycline is an intense antibiotic. I have no Cystic acne.

[ROUTINE HELP] Can you use a retinol eye cream (inkeylist) for the eyes while Retinol 0.5 with Squalane (The Ordinary) for Rest of Face Exclusing Eyes?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I understand that the The Ordinary Retinol 0.5 with Squalane (or any other of their retinol products for that matter) specify that they should not be used for other retinoid treatments. However, it was also advised not to use them in the eye area. I was wondering if, since I'm using the Ordinary Retinol 0.5 for the rest of my face, I will use a retinol cream around my eyes only. Would there be any issues with that? (I've sent an email to the Ordinary on this matter too, so I hope they do reply soon.Additional question as well: is it good to buy two sets of eye cream? One for day and one for night. This is because I'm planning to use a retinol eye cream at night and I don't want to use that during the day cause it contains retinol. And as for the day, I'm looking at a vitamin c eye cream though I'm thinking of using a caffeine one instead.

19 y/o maleI have this really disgusting and embarrassing issue and I was hoping for some comfort/insight.My cystic acne (which is only on my jawline/cheeks save for a few pimples on my forehead) has gone absolutely nuclear. Everytime I wear a masks for even a short period of time, my face literally sticks to my mask because it's bloody and it clots with the mask. Taking it off is so painful. Touching it is painful. Even doing nothing, mask or not, is painful. Everytime I take my mask off, there are many blood spots and pieces of clot on it. It's really disgusting. I also notice my pillow cases getting blood on them.I don't know why I bleed so much. A few days ago, I had some pretty big black clots on my face.My PCP prescribed my cepehlexin/clindamycin and I've been on that for a few months. Did nothing. In the morning I use a deep cleanser and salicylic acid, and in the evening I do another around of salicylic acid.I'm going to the PCP again to ask for a dermatology refer. I really want to try accutane.Appreciate any comments or advice. I can provide pictures if you'd like.

[Skin concern] Skin around my nose and cheekbone area looks like cracks in a desert

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I would take photos but my phone is a potato. For a long time I've had dry red skin in this area that I manage with retinol, hyaluronic acid, and aloe, and usually it works great. For the past week or so its suddenly gotten much worse, this area of my face (and only this area!) is aggressively shedding thick layers of skin in chunks, literally looks like those sectional cracks in a desert. I try remoisturizing multiple times a day and it barely helps. I usually don't try to scrub the dead skin every time except in the AM when its really bad.Nothing else has changed in my lifestyle recently except I've been going to bed and waking up later. It's not a humidity thing because I have a humidifer in my place. Could it possibly be a nutritional defiency? Or maybe my PH level is too acidic?I'm seeing a dermatologist next week but in the mean time I'm still trying to figure out how to even fix this let alone what causes it.This is the main product I've been using lately btw: https://www.amazon.com/Vitamin-Retinol-Niacinamide-Hyaluronic-Salicylic/dp/B01BT02Q88 which I usually follow up with a basic moisturizer like Aloe.

[Anti-Aging] Adapalene vs Tretinoin

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have read several conversion charts and from my understanding, Tretinoin/Retin-A/Isotretinoin is the gold standard, most researched and the best retinoid in terms of conversion. In other words, it's retinoid straight on skin vs retinol which has to convert to retinaldehyde and then retinoic acid for it to be effective or as effective. What I don't get is where Adapalene fits into this? Where I am Adapalene is the only retionid available, and although I would love to try the gold standard Tretinoin I wonder if anyone has any knowledge whether Adapalene is as good anti aging ingredient as Tret? And how does Adapalene compare to the regular Retinol? Logically Adapalene would be slightly better than Retinol, but not as good as Tretinoin. My main goal using retinoids is both acne and anti aging, slightly more anti aging and general skin health.Would be great if someone with knowledge on this would share some thoughts

[Acne] Will I purge on Differin after switching from prescription adapalene or other topicals?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've suffered from severe cystic acne in the recent past, but I only currently get a couple of pimples here and there, and sometimes a bad cystic one. I think this is mainly attributed to an incomplete course of Accutane I took earlier in the year. I will likely have to go back on it at some point, but I don't think the derm will prescribe it for my one pimple.I'm currently using some "leftover" prescriptions from earlier in the year, Dapsone in the AM and Epiduo Forte in the PM, but I'm about to run out. I've been curious about trying Differin, but I'm afraid of the purge since my skin is the clearest it's ever been now in years... but I definitely don't have "do nothing" skin. The reason I'm switching to an OTC is because my insurance only seems to approve medication if my acne is considered severe.I've been using Epiduo Forte for months without purging, sensitivity, or other issues, and since Differin is adapalene, will I most likely be in the clear? I know no one here is psychic, but perhaps someone's been in a similar boat.As a side note, does anyone have suggestions on something mild and non-drying I can use in the morning? My breakouts tend to occur mid-day, so I usually need that bit of "extra help."

[Skin Concerns] how to tell if my skin is dehydrated?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
This is actually a skincare + makeup question. Lately, when applying my makeup, it always seems to be patchy and kind of cracks, especially when I set it with powder. Someone told me it must have been my primer, I fixed that and I've now come to the conclusion that it's my skincare/face skin.I'm thinking my face is dehydrated. I've started using TO 7% Glycolic acid toner as an exfoliant, 1-3 times a week but I've also been using a hydrating toner (eucerin hyaluron toner) daily. What could be the problem?
