[Miscellaneous] My ten year old niece has started breaking out. What products are safe to use at her age? How do I approach this situation with over stepping my bounds?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
As the title says, my niece has started breaking out. Her father and grandmother are making really harsh suggestions for her skin, (Clean and clear astringent, baking soda paste, I. Kid. You. Not.) They both have the opinion that if it's not burning, it's not working, and don't use moisturizer if you have breakouts.I would like to offer her some help because it seems to bother her, but I don't want to sound bossy or like I think I know better than they do.Also, what products would be good to suggest for her? Can she use a BHA or AHA?

[Product Question] Want to add Glycolic Acid into my routine but have no idea what product(s) to get... any suggestions?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm 24/F with combination skin that's mostly clear except for the occasional hormonal breakout. I do have some PIH that I want to work on getting rid of so I'm interested in trying Glycolic Acid but there's just so many products out there I have no idea what to try! My morning and night routines are the same and consist of Origins Zero Oil cleanser and toner (contains Salicylic Acid) and Origins Ginzing moisturizer. I've never used an AHA so I'm really looking for something that's good for a beginner and easy to incorporate into my routine. Any suggestions?

[ACNE][ROUTINE] Trying to get rid of redness from past breakouts as well as remove further ones

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi guys, I've been browsing this sub for a long time and have been taken the advice on the sidebar as well as the recent posts on the page. Through lots of trial and error between different routines, I got rid of most of my acne, however, I'm always stuck with some sort of acne on my face. It is frustrating because I put so much effort into my diet and my routine and somehow with everything going perfect, I'm still getting acne. I tried routines with a lot more stuff, but I realized that the more I put on my skin, the worse it got. It actually got better after I stopped putting stuff on my skin and let my skin do it's thing with minimal cleansing. Here is an album of my skin right now. http://imgur.com/a/TY89J (This may be out of place, but I took these pictures right after I had intercourse, my skin always looks more inflamed after sex...)I have normal to oily skin. I am 21 years old. I live in southern Canada. I am in a pretty high stress university program, I tend to get more pimples during the stressful times for sure.Routine: AM: Wash Face with LukeWarm Water Hawaian Tropic Sunscreen 60SPF (Just a little!) http://www.hawaiiantropic.com/sun-care-products/hawaiian-tropic-sheer-touch-ultra-radiance-lotion-sunscreenPM: //I sometimes cleanse with a gentle cleanser(maybe a few times a week) Clean skin with Stridex Pads Mosturize with Cerave PM Cream (http://www.cerave.ca/our-products/moisturizers/pm-facial-moisturizing-lotion)Aside from this, I exercise at least an hour everyday. I drink 8 glasses of water a day. I take a men's multivitamin and Fish Oil supplements daily. I have tried AHA lotion, Vit C Serum, but no method has given me exactly what my skin needs.I am about to try OCM (My Mixture is Caster Oil 30% + Extra Virgin Olive Oil 70% + Hints of Jojoba and Tamanu Oil). Have any of you had my type of skin and have had OCM work for you? I am also going to add drops of VIT C serum at night.Do you guys have an advice for me to stop this redness! I have some PIH from previous breakouts that I believe the Cerave PM moisturizer will help with. Also, any advice on how to stop future breakouts. I have no seen a doctor.

[Skin concerns] Is there any coming back from this? (Scars)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
http://imgur.com/6SboyKFMy skin is pretty much ruined and it depresses me to no end. I know it will never be like before, but can it ever be okay looking? It's a shame nobody told me my acne could result in scarring or I would've taken Accutane much sooner. I've not had acne for about 2.5 years (except for a pimple here and there) and it's not gotten better at all. The scars are still as inflamed as ever. I've done one Fraxel treatment and one subcision, neither made a difference. I also had IPL for the redness, which didn't help either. Tried filler at one point but turns out it's hard to properly fill my scars. I don't want my skin to look this way for the rest of my life, so I'm lining up more, consecutive treatments. I'm gonna try subcision + suction, followed by microneedling. My expectations are super low, but I don't know what else to do since I can't seem to let it go. Back when I had acne I was always positive because I thought one day my skin will be normal again. Right now it's hard to stay positive.I apologize for venting like this, I wish you all a happy new year.

[Skin Concerns] Is this skin damage possibly caused by BP 2.5% irreversible?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello. After doing some poking around this subreddit I'm a bit freaked out about the treatment I've been using.I have struggled with acne since I was 9 years old. It got especially bad when I was 19. I've been to dermatologists with no success. The only thing that works for me is benzoyl peroxide 2.5%. Until I found this subreddit though I didn't understand the importance of moisturizer and SPF when using BP and slathered it on the sides of my face for a good 6+ years without taking proper measures. I now have dehydrated skin and major hyperpigmentation on top of textured scars, as you can see in this album. I also have some small, micro wrinkles on my cheeks around my nose (also shown). Are the wrinkles premature aging from the BP? If so, I know it's irreversible but if I stop using benzoyl peroxide will it slow the progression? What about the scarring? I realize there's not much to do about them, particularly the textured ones, but are they totally hopeless with no room for improvement?Another thing, is there a good first step to take after stopping the BP? Acne prevention is a major concern for me; as soon as I stop the BP the pimples start coming back within days. I'd like to introduce my new routine slowly, as recommended, but I'm not sure what the most important part for acne prevention is. An AHA?Tl;dr: Are the little wrinkles around my nose (shown in the first photo here) premature aging? If so, can I stop the progression by stopping the use of BP 2.5%? Is there any hope for my acne scarring?

[review] I've got $32 to spend on Birchbox before midnight. Help me find something fancy and frivolous to buy!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Can anyone suggest something in the ~$50 price-range that's good for very oily, acne-prone skin that scars easily and oh yes, I also have Rosacea on my cheeks and alarmingly deep wrinkles under my eyes for someone as young as myself. (As you can tell, buying facial product is extremely easy for me :P )I like masks/treatments/peels, but I can always try a new face wash or moisturizer. I also use serum and a decollete cream nightly, and spot treatments for breakouts. Oh and I use rice paper to dab during the day. (Totally not kidding about the level of oiliness to my skin. My whole family is this way. We're tapped by Amoco each week for the national oil reserves.) I'm also in the market for a really good eye cream but I'm thinking that's going to be in the $100 price range, so I'll put that off for another time.Anyway, there's just so many products on Birchbox now that I haven't tried yet, I feel totally overwhelmed. I'd love to get some suggestions! What would you buy if you had 50 bucks to blow? What's on your wishlist?

[Routine Help] How should I add finacea (azelaic acid) to my existing routine?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi, I was just prescribed finacea for my mild but persistent adult (hormonal) acne. I have oily skin that also gets quite dry and flaky in the winter. I'm also 12 weeks pregnant. I did search (extensively!) but couldn't find an answer to my question. My routine prior to this prescription was:AM and PM: Wash with salicylic acid face wash (my OB says this is safe) (Neutrogena Derp Clean Long-Last Shine Control) 15 minutes with illumask Clindamycin gel 1% Wait 10 minutes Small amount of 2.5% benzoyl peroxide Moisturizer (Aveeno Ultra Calming)This has been my routine for years! No new products. My OB prescribed the finacea when I asked about it, as it is safe for pregnancy. However, he hadn't heard of it until I brought it up- so he couldn't give me much routine help. I've heard of others using Clindamycin in the morning and finacea in the evening. However, the information with the finacea said to use the finacea twice a day. I will also be stopping the benzoyl peroxide, as I'm hearing mixed reviews about its safety. My OB did also give me the name of a great NP who works at a local dermatology clinic, but I'd like to see if the finacea helps, first.Has anyone else used these meds? What order did you apply them in? Any other helpful hints? Thanks!!

[Acne] - Please Help

Beauty Tips For Body Care
**Note: there is an imgur gallery at the bottom. What type of acne is this?I am 18 years old and in my last year of high school. I have had acne since seventh grade, but my worst bouts of acne have been over the last three years. I have been to the dermatologist twice - both times he recommended a routine to follow: wash face with cleanser in shower followed by moisturizer. I followed his specific instruction until I started to get massive cysts on my cheeks. I continued to use his specific cleanser/ moisturizer for six months until I pulled the plug after it was clear my face was significantly worse.I have stopped eating dairy (no whey powder, no cheese, no milk), I have stopped eating chocolate, I have stopped drinking soda, and I have tried to eliminate fast food as much as possible. I do not drink, smoke, or do any drugs. I don't drink coffee or energy drinks. I change my pillowcase every night to help with the acne. I don't touch/ pick on my face at all.I work out (lifting heavy four times a week) and I run twice a week as well. I sleep as much as I can (avg 7 hours on school nights) and I try to keep stress to a minimum.I have tried many antibiotics, as well as creams such as tretinoin and benzoyl peroxide. I have tried salictic acid, but nothing has worked. This was all during freshman/ sophomore year and my acne was constantly getting worse.HOW I GOT RID OF MY ACNE FOR SIX MONTHS: Eventually, it got to the point where I would have ten to fifteen massive papules at a time and they were leaving deep, red hyper pigmentation. Last year I decided to take the drug accutane to alleviate my acne. Accutane did work, however, it dried my skin out and I felt extremely lethargic and borderline depressed on it. It did an amazing job clearing my face, chest, and back, but it was impossible to continue.I was acne-free from March of this year to around Halloween. Ever since I have stopped using Accutane (February) I have used absolutely no cleansers/ moisturizers. It may seem stupid but I only washed my face with water and there were no problems for six months. Here are my possible causes of acne:1) Genetics - my dad had acne, but not nearly as much as I have now. I also have oily skin.2) Testosterone/Hormone Inbalance - When I work out/sweat I notice an increase in acne. Is it possible that my hormone glands are messed up somehow?3) My doctor said there is a correlation between wisdom teeth coming in and an increase in acne. Anyone have any experience with this?4) Stress - Once I got back in school, stress became a daily factor. College applications, exams, and general deadlines add stress everyday.5) Shampoo/conditioner - I know this is a stretch, however I believe that my shampoo may be causing my acne, but I don't know what specific ingredient is responsible.6) Pillowcase - I change my pillowcase every night. It night be possible that the detergent that is used on it might irritate my skin.7) Allergies - I am allergic to dust and freshly cut grass; can this somehow lead to my skin being irritated and lead to acne breakouts?9) Thyroid problem/ diabetes - Something my dermatologist mentioned. Maybe I am suffering from some type of disease? To summarize quickly: I don't have any skincare routine right now. I know I have wrote a lot, but please read through it all to have a better understanding on how persistent this disease is. If you can help me, please PM me or leave a message. I am seriously struggling here and would appreciate the help.TLDR: Even after Accutane, acne has come back. I don't have any products right now. I need help and feel lost.Pictures: http://imgur.com/gallery/n2Eqo

[Product Question] Skin gets extra oily at night; skin doesn't absorbs any lotion; can't find product in the local market - need help concerning products.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I live near the equador (much sun such humidity wow) and I have oily + sensitive skin and I just don't know what to do anymore. I like to shop from extemporaneous formulating pharmacies or, simply put, "chemist's shops" (they are great over here and much cheaper) and honestly, only the products made by them works for my skin due the lack of diversity in the market plus everything is super expensive here. So, I have also body acne mainly in my upper back and shoulders and the only body wash that worked for me was the pink one from clean & clear. The problem is, two years ago they removed the salicylic acid from its components. Bummers. Now I can't find any body wash with salicylic acid anywhere (I don't know if its some sort of law in this forsaken country, argh) and the chemist's shops here don't make 'em so I'm hoping you guys could recommend a really great and accessible brand that I could order online. :) Moving on. Body lotions. Damn all of them. My skin simply doesn't absorb them. Even if I put only a thin layer I pass the whole day oily and dripping them down with sweat. Same thing with sunscreen (which irritates my skin because lead I suppose). I searched this online but couldn't find anything but pseudo-scientific stuff (maybe I put the wrong key words the search). My last but not least concern is with night time skin care. I really wish I could find something that I can put on my face while I sleep but no such luck. When I wake up, my face is covered in so much grease and oil that I could use it to make breakfast. If you guys could be kind and indicate SOMETHING FOR MY FACE in the LOVE OF ALL THAT'S TRUE IN SKIN CARE, I would be so thankful that I would send you a special bottle with my face oil so you can give it to your 'all-nature-lover-no-chemicals-bio-is-life' friends. Also, sorry for my utterly confusing english.

[DIY] can you just add niacinamide powder to your moisturizer?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've searched the sub and sidebar and found decent diy recipes if this is not an option. It's just that Curology/PD recently changed my Rx and replaced niacinamide with tretinoin which is great but I'm missing my niacinamide now and unfortunately cerave pm and Olay make me break out (been using them as hand lotion now). I already have a great sunscreen so don't wanna switch to Elta MD I've seen recommended. I just thought it'd be so great to just buy some powder and add it to my bottle of Vanicream Lite or to my Curology lotion if that's possible?? Thanks in advance!

[Routine Help] New to creams and skincare. How do you apply moisturiser and cleanser?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey guys. My skin has been bugging me for a while. It's not terrible, but i have a few areas: on one side of the jaw (right side), and one side of my forehead (left side) that seem to constantly be covered in acne. My nose and the areas surrounding it are also very oily, and i can squeeze stuff out of, mostly the tip of, my nose :sAfter finding this sub, i went ahead and started reading! And i then ordered a cleanser and a moisturiser. Im a guy, so no make up for me. I switch my pillowsheets every three days, and i usually wash my face maybe 3 times a day.I got two of the products that were recommended here, that i could actually purchase in europe! But now I've got a bit of a problem. How do i apply it? How much are you supposed to use? Should i use my fingers or should i use one of the cotton spongy thingys :D sorry, im not into this stuff, so i dont know the English word for it :)Should i apply the cleanser everywhere and then the moisturiser everywhere? Should i always use both right after the other? Should my skin be wet when i apply the cleanser? Its the eucerin cleansing milk one for cleanser. I'd describe it as a cream, probably. The moisturizer is the Sebamed Clear Face Care GelHope you guys wanna help me out. I'd like to do this right! And not apply too much, to the wrong areas and such. :)Oh! And if i break out from this, should i immediately stop, or should i keep going? Thanks

After seeing a few posts recently about sea salt water helping with acne I did a search and found some promising testimonials. I'd like to know when to incorporate it into my routine as I'm currently using a prescription topical antibiotic (clindatech) and I don't want to lose its effectiveness. I'm thinking of applying using a spray bottle and letting it dry overnight. Current routine is:AM: - Cleanse, tone and moisturise w Dr Spiller (as per Dr instructions) - Apply clindatech to affected areas - SPF 30 sunscreen - Youngblood mineral foundationPM: - remove makeup w Clinique take the day off balm - Cleanse, tone and moisturise w Dr Spiller - Apply clindatech to affected areasCCW on my routine, I also use a new microfiber cloth each morning and change my pillowcase daily.

[skin concerns] skin colored bumps all over in the course of an hour or two

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have always had really nice skin/skin tone. I got home late on Christmas and noticed my face was swollen with bumps. I thought it was an allergic reaction-took allergy medicine but it did not clear up by morning. The bumps have lessened, but now my skin looks like an orange peel in the light.Has anyone had this happen suddenly?I have in the past two-three months started taking better care of my skin-I am using cetaphil in the am along with Ginzing Origins eye cream and perfect world spf. Previously I was using Philosophy spf.At night I use Origins face cleanser, perfect world eye cream and moisturizer.I have had a sugar heavy diet due to Holidays. And have been stressed. But again, this happened so fast!!! I am so sad about it. I never wear make-up because I have been so lucky. Now I feel like a lizard and wearing a full face of makeup makes me feel even worse.I am calling the dermatologist tomorrow. For my own nerves, wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

[anti-aging] [PSA] IPL update - warning about IPL for asian skin

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So... a while ago, I posted after I had an IPL treatment about how the results were phenomenal. They were indeed phenomenal... for like two weeks. Then, my spots came back, and seemed even darker than before? Being the persistent person that I am, I went back for another round of treatment, thinking that maybe it was one of those situations where you need multiple sessions in order to see results. My tech turned up the intensity, and again, my spots were gone (after a pretty ugly period, which I again covered up with HCB, which worked like a charm), but only for about two weeks. And... like before, the spots are back, except they are even WORSE than they were after the first treatment!Aside from being mortified about how I gave myself self-inflicted darker spots (oh, the irony), I started looking into what might be going on. And I'm not sure how I didn't catch this before, but apparently asian skin can sometimes respond to IPL by getting darker, rather than lightening. I had read that people with darker skin might want to avoid IPL, but I wouldn't consider myself particularly dark, so I just didn't think much of it. Anyway, it sounds like the spots will lighten with time, but I'm going to be working through some chemical peels and Vit C serum for a few months to see if I can accelerate that process. And... no more IPL for me. =(Just thought I should put this out there so that people are properly warned.

You don't even feel them crawling onto you, and then they all bite at once. It's terrifyingly amazing. Needless to say, the next week was absolutely awful! My butt and legs were covered in pustules for the next week. I did my best to make sure I didn't break any of the heads or scratch. They eventually scabbed over and are now healed, but I'm left with hyper-pigmented spots all over my legs and butt.I am Asian and I am prone to hyper-pigmentation, but I have never been concerned about it until now because it is all clustered in such a large area.My question is, is there any way I can reduce the scars? [Skin Concerns] Fed up with constant acne, wondering if I should just drop all products and start from scratch.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello lovelies. Hope you are all braving the harsh winter weather successfully.I'm 23F and for the past two years I've struggled with acne due to switching from the pill to an IUD for birth control. At this point I feel like I've tried everything, and nothing is working. Acne keeps coming back in new places and old places and it's killing my self confidence. My SO will sometimes just asking why I can't just stop using all the "crap I put on my face" in order to clear it up. Usually that is met with glares and sighs about how he just doesn't understand, but now I'm thinking he might be onto something. My routine is below, I'm thinking of maybe just cutting everything except Neutrogena cleanser and Clean & Clear moisturizer, as I've been using them since I was a teenager and I've never had an issue with them. I'm not sure if that will make my face explode into hundreds of cystic acne due to lack of the other products but at this point I have no idea what else to do.My skin seems to be dehydrated, it pulls feels tight on cheeks and forehead around 11am (I get ready around 7am every day), but gets oily a couple hours later, while still feeling tight. I have sensitivities to fatty alcohols so I've been trying to combat this by recently purchasing a humidifier to help keep my home environment not as drying. At this point, I don't know what is causing my breakouts. I'm not sure if it's my makeup, or my skincare items and I just feel utterly defeated. I'm already at work with full face of makeup on so I can't include any photos right now I'm dealing with:Cystic acne in undereye area, like right on top of my cheek bones before they give way to the eye socket, and also along my jawlineI can't tell if their close comedones or just clogged pores ALL over the hollows of my cheeksScarring / PIH from old acneZits/Pimples deep under the surface on the very top of my nose (just call me Rudolph)AM- Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Cleanser- Paula's Choice Skin Balancing Toner- Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid- Clean & Clear Morning Burst MoisturizerPM- Wipe makeup with Neutrogena makeup remover wipes- OCM with Sweet Almond Oil (This is ~1 week new)- Wipe with microfiber cloth - Paula's Choice Skin Balancing Toner- Alpha Hydrox AHA every other day or so- Spot Treat with BP- Dr. Lins Moisturizer (This is also new ~2 weeks new, previously using Nivea but I think the lanolin was breaking me out, idk)- Maybe a dab of Sweet Almond Oil or Vaseline right before bedOther- Mint Julep Masque used 1-2x week- Paula's Choice Vitamin C, ran out 3 weeks ago- Nivea tin, maybe broke me out? [personal] blues over skin comments

Beauty Tips For Body Care
There are much bigger problems in the world. Sorry for the melodrama. Came home for the holidays after failing out of a master's program and a breakup out of an unhealthy relationship. With all my free time and less stress these past months, it was really cathartic pouring my energy into taking care of my skin and my body again. Sleeping well, getting back to my beloved skin routine, eating my 5 a day, hydrating, etc has really brought life back to my skin. After feeling defeated by life, healthy, clean skin was the one thing I had going for me, and gave me back a lot of confidence.I even opened up re-applications to a few programs and scholarship funds to get back in the game, that's how good good skin can make you feel!I get home, and the germs and dry air and sleep deprivation of travelling for a week prior caused a massive breakout and obviously I did not look my best. My mother takes one look at me and berates me about my skin, about how I used to be so beautiful at 16. What kind of adult gets acne? I must be so lazy, my skin is typical proof of why I couldn't make it through the program and couldn't keep my (cheating) boyfriend (who literally would tell me to make him a sandwich, babe). Now I'm back to my depressed puddle and can barely bother to OCM :'( Just laying in bed putting vaseline over my wrinkles and pimples and feeling like a failure. Thank you for listening.

[Skin Concerns] I had a freckle turn into a scab and fall off. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it worth seeing a derm?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I had this freckle on my face for nearly my whole life. All of a sudden it scabs and falls off. Now it's gone. The whole freckle. In the span of maybe 2 days. It looks and is acting like it was a pimple, but there was no noticeable pimple. It seemed to go straight from freckle to scab. Should I be worried? Should I see a derm?

[Skin Concerns] What can I do to protect my skin when winter winds can't be avoided?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I know the wind and cold is making my skin more sensitive, irritated, and dry. Still, there's only so much I can do to avoid exposure, it's inevitable in Minnesota. I try to do damage control with heavier moisturizers and Vaseline at night, but I'm short on ideas for protection during the day. Is there anything that will protect my skin without being oily? Does anyone know where to find fashionable ski masks?

[Acne] Spearmint tea stopped my hormonal acne!!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So a few months ago I started Pocketderm (now curology) after seeing it on Reddit. I totally love it, but mostly because of the advice I've been able to get from my derm.If you have any questions about anything above/below, please ask, but for now I just want to get to the good stuff! My PocketDerm lady let me know that I have hormonal acne (which is what I thought). I tend to break out along my jaw and on my chin, and then it leaves a bunch of red marks that last for months and months. After a little while on the product and not a ton of clearing, she suggested I try spearmint tea. It's supposed to help with balancing the hormones.I've drank a cup of Alvita Organic Spearmint Tea every night for the past 2-3 months (I've missed a few nights). I've already gone through a couple hormonal cycles where I would expect to break out, but I haven't!! It's really quite amazing to me.I did some research on my own and saw that quite a few people also had success, but as usual not everyone did. And of course everyones health/acne situation is different. Also note- I think this only works for females, not males.Anyway, I'm a little nervous because I'm worried this is just a temp solution, but for now it's AMAZING and giving my skin a chance to heal up the red marks. If you have any questions, please let me know. I kind of wrote this in a rush.PS I just want to add that switching to a toothpaste without SLS helped the skin around my mouth a ton.

[Product question] Disappointed with Aztec Healing Clay. What else can I try? Closed comedones/grit :(

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I read through a lot here before I tried this and I'm so disappointed. I feel like this did absolutely nothing for my skin. Yes, I felt the pulsating and it really "felt" like it was doing something, but I don't think my skin looks any different.I did OCM with mineral oil, rinsed/dried. Applied mask (mixed with ACV + vinegar) for 25-30 mins. Washed off and tried to do OCM again, hoping for "grit" and stuff to come out.Nothing came out...When I massage my skin again the grain, I can feel some hard bumps underneath my skin. Do you I get rid of these? I know I need to be patient, but what's the timeline? Weeks? Months?I have been using tretinoin .05% few times a week, with the except of my forehead, where I use 2.5% BP.I also have Stridex Max and 10% glycolic acid.

[Skin Concerns] Uneven skin tone, complexion and nasolabial fold. Teenager

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey peeps, I have uneven skin tone, especially around my nose where it is lighter than the rest of my face (or maybe my face got darker) and due to dark uneven skin tone around my eyes, it really contrast with my nose. I have these tan type line (I do wear glasses) around my nose, and it extend to the side, which really gives an illusion of it being fatter than it actually is. My skin tone all around is uneven, i have dark circle, around my eyes are dark as well. Any my face overall is darker than most of my body. My skin was a lot lighter as a kid. I also have nasolabial fold which shouldn't exist as i am just a teenager (17 year old). I have normal body fat but maybe reducing my bf to really low will help reduce these wrinkle along my cheek. I also do want chiseled jaw line (which i think i can get due to having wide jaw) and reducing my body fat will make my face more slimmer. I was wondering if u had anything similar to that and what was your treatment. Thank you And sorry i dont have any pics right now, i will post later today.

I have dehydrated, aging skin that is prone to deep cysts and whiteheads, isn't sensitive to peels etc, and never gets flaky. I'm looking for a product to help with fine lines, loss of plumpness, and redness.I've read the sidebar and done a search, but couldn't find anything on the Skin Actives product. Thanks in advance!

How I cured Dandruff/Seborrheic Dermatitis [Skin Concerns]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Background:I've tried every anti-dandruff shampoo known to man, and they've all made it worse. Visited dermatologist, was diagnosed with Seborrheic Dermatitis, prescribed ketoconazole shampoo+ointment, and steroid ointments. The ketoconzole ointment and shampoo made my condition worse, causing flair ups. Snail cream and various moisturizers that everyone likes made it worse too. I tried oils as moisturizer (argan, coconut, etc). Coconut seemed to work the best, but not well enough.Causes:The first problem is that my skin is allergic to common chemicals found in soap/shampoo/moisturizers.The second problem is that Seborrheic Dermatitis is caused by the "Malassezia" yeast, which feeds on oils.Solution:-Use soap with least amount of chemicals/additives. Black African soap (my current favorite), castile bar soaps, shampoo with least amount of chemicals (no sls, etc) (Nature's Gate shampoo seems to be working so far). Cerave foaming face wash (maybe, I haven't tested this one long enough).I wash 2-3 times in the shower to make sure I get all of the oil/gunk/dead skin off. Some prefer using a Konjac sponge.-Be careful of moisturizers. Any that contain oils will feed the yeast, other ingredients you may be allergic to. The yeast even feeds on coconut oil. Even anti-fungal oils such as tea tree seem to make my condition worse, so avoid those too. Cerave (the kind without petroleum) seems to be working ok so far, but I haven't tested it long enough.-Moisturize with MCT oil instead of coconut oil or other oils. MCT oil is derived from coconut oil, but does not contain some of the same fatty acids that the yeast feed on. This seems to be the only safe oil to use since the yeast cannot metabolize the fatty acids contained in MCT oil.-I mix Xylitol with water, and apply it to my problem spots after showering. Xylitol is a sugar alcohol that has anti-fungal/antibacterial properties. I use about 4% xylitol/water solution, it works amazingly well.

[B&A] Copper IUD & Acne: what helped, what didn't, and my holy grail product.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I got acne literally overnight. I woke up one morning with 4 or 5 pimples after not having had them since my preteen years and I thought "huh... must have eaten too much sugar or something." Then the next day I had more pimples and on and on and on.I found this sub and started experimenting with a good routine. Some things made it worse (literally all CeraVe products I tried... sorry guys.) Some products helped with maintenance, but didn't do any prevention (Paula's Choice 2% BHA) and other things I felt kinda "meh" about (Aveeno Ultra Calming SPF 15 moisturizer)After lots of experimentation, I was only getting 1-2 new pimples a day, but deep down I felt like I was missing something. If my acne came out of nowhere, surely there must be something I was doing different? I came to the realization that my acne started when I got my copper IUD. It didn't really make sense- the whole reason I got the copper was because it didn't have hormones! Why would it be giving me acne? I did some reading on copper and how it affects your body, and I learned that copper and zinc work in tandem- copper builds up and zinc leaches it out. With a newfound influx of copper in my system, I could be lacking zinc. I already knew a zinc deficiency could cause acne. I went and got a $5 bottle of zinc from the grocery store (100 50mg tablets) and started taking one in the morning and at night. My acne was gone in 2 days.I'm still dealing with a little PIE, but I don't care about it that much. I actually met with my doctor a few days after my discovery and ran the intel past her, and she agreed that it was a zinc deficiency. She did some bloodwork and confirmed it. Overall, I am happy I found a cure. I know not all acne is as simple as finding one product to cure it, but I highly recommend taking zinc if you haven't before. I don't feel like acne is a well-advertised side effect of the copper IUD, so I wanted to put my experience out there in case it was affecting others.Routine AM: Wash with water LJH TeaTree 90 essence Aveeno Ultra Calming SPF 50mg zinc Routine PM: Wash with Olay Sensitive Skin Wash LJH TeaTree 90 Essence Snailbee Essence Pat on jojoba oil 50mg zincpictures!

[Routine Help] Where does Tretinion fit into my routine?

Hey guys,I've been struggling with hormonal acne, comedones, and an oily complexion for a few years now. Saw a derm but had very little success considering the amount of money I've paid for her over the years. I have gone through the topicals, antibiotic medications, spironolactone, and have just recently started birth control since the others have failed.I recently decided to add PC AHA 8% gel for my redness and scaring. I'm wondering if it matters whether I use my Tretinion before or after AHA? I was thinking to be most effective it should go on immediately after cleansing so it is the first layer into the pore. Any other advice on my routine would be greatly appreciated. I work the 3rd shift, and where I live I probably won't see the sun again until spring time. [Routine Help] Vitamin C, BHA, and retinol usage?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
First off, hello! I'm new to Reddit although I have been snooping around for quite some time, particularly in the Skincare subreddit. Similar questions to this have been asked in the past, but I really wanted to get some perspective on my particular situation. Ok, now, I am planning to incorporate 15% vitamin C serum (L-ascorbic acid), 2% BHA liquid, and 1% retinol cream into my skincare routine. I only tried in the BHA in the past, and I stopped because while it was making the rest of my face look great, the skin around my mouth got irritated and flaky. Of course, that may have been because I was using it everyday. What I'm planning to do is use the vitamin C serum every morning, use the 2% BHA liquid 3 times a week on evenings, and use the 1% retinol cream 2 times a week on evenings that I'm not using the BHA. Is this a "slow" transition enough, or is there another routine you recommend so that I can ease my way into using actives without compromising my skin?Thank you!

[Acne] Before and After but unexpected.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi guys, I have never struggled with acne as a teenager. I am 21 now and just a few weeks ago I started getting lots of cystic acne spots on my cheek and chin area. I have never had a specific routine. I always washed my face with a cleanser and used Benzac for spot treatment when i got occasional spots. I have recently moved in to living with my aunt and the right side of my face and chin has been filled with cystic acne. My occasional pimples always showed up on this side of my face but were never this bad. Recently, I have started using Benzoyl Peroxide 5% and it has only made it worse. I am on a very low budget so I cannot visit a dermatologist or anything. I cannot even buy any products that may cost more than 10$. I do not live in the US and all the mentioned here seem out of reach or very expensive when sold here. I have combination skin and I get the exact same kind of acne on my back. Never bothered to fix it as i barely have the time. I am not thinking of taking accutane too.My current routine (Past 2 weeks):*I wash my face every night with Laurel Soap. I have attached a link to the product. It is mainly made out of olive oil and it is a very natural product. http://www.amazon.com/DAHROJ-Laurel-Olive-Oil-Soap/dp/B00IB3EYW8*Benzoyl Peroxide 5%*Face Moisturiser I use 5% Benzoyl Peroxide only on spots. Which is all the right side of my face.*Morning: Wash face with Laurel Soap. If leaving the house I add sunblock of 50 SPF.Before living at my aunts place (Right side of the face) http://i.imgur.com/rqmkUmI.jpgAfter while using Benzoyl Peroxide http://i.imgur.com/ZycyiBP.jpgPlease Help and Thank youEdit The acne is very itchy but i am sure it is because of benzoyl Peroxide.

[Skin Concerns] [Eczema] I've practically cured myself of eczema, here's what I know and what I do:

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Someone asked in another thread what I did to cure myself of eczema, but there's so much to say that I thought I would just make another thread. Here it goes:What Eczema Is:First of all, it's very important to understand eczema in order to combat it. It's actually a combination of two factors: a weak skin barrier, and a overreactive immune system. Our skin is meant to protect us, but it's imperfect. In dry climates especially, we can get tiny cracks in our skin barrier, which lets small irritants get into our bodies, such as dust mites, and then our immune systems overreact and cause an itchy rash. This is why eczema is worse in the winter, because our skin isnt as healthy. Also, people with eczema often have other allergies, or asthma which is related. It's very useful to think of your eczema as an allergy... avoiding irritants is key to staying itch-free, and staying itch-free is key to keeping your skin healthy. If you dont scratch, you wont have eczema. They did a terrible experiment in the 50's on a little boy with eczema, they tied him down to his hospital bed and without being able to scratch himself, his eczema healed in two weeks. I dont have a online source for this, I read it in "Eczema Free For Life", which is a great read.Environment:Possible allergens include:Dust mitesFragrancesPet hair/danderVarious ingredients in beauty products, cleaning productsAlcoholwoolThese may or may not cause a reaction for you, they are just common allergens to watch out for. Dust mites are EVERYWHERE and they are the first culprit to try and avoid. This means washing your bed sheets every 10 days or so, using clean towels, and wearing freshly laundered clothes everyday. Yes, it's very high-maintenance, but if you are suffering, it's entirely worth it. Also, once your eczema is clear, you can get lazier with this. Find out your particular needs! Sometimes, in the summer, in the right climate, I can wear my clothes twice or three times and wash my sheets every 14-18 days without issue. I highly recommend a blanket with a duvet cover, so you can wash the duvet cover instead of the whole blanket every 10 days.Fragrances are also everywhere, and that is the second thing to try and exclude from touching your skin. That means no fragranced moisturizers, soap/bodywash, laundry detergent, even avoid your perfume/cologne and maybe even switch your deo. The health food store is a great place to shop for eczema sufferers, because most formulations are much more mild then conventional products. It's also the only place I get my laundry detergent because I like scents like citrus and lavender and I find that essential oils dont bother me, but synthetic fragrances do. But we're all different.Skincare:The conventional lifestyle of having a hot shower everyday with a loofah and soapy old spice bodywash or something, is entirely unnecessary unless you are an athlete, or live in the tropics. Baths are gentler on the skin then showers. I personally, use an oil cleanser, (specifically Exomega Cleansing Oil which works great without overdrying) and I only use it on the parts of my body that I think are dirty, and I use a tiny amount. I rarely exfoliate either, because that will cause micro abrasions that will make your eczema worse. If I do exfoliate, it will be with a damp facecloth, used very gently. DEFINITELY not a rough glove, or loofah, or crushed nuts or microbeads. Seriously treat your skin like you're a baby, and you will be rewarded. It's important to try and retain the natural oils on your skin, so be hygienic and get rid of bad smelling bacteria, but try and leave your skin alone as much as possible. Bathe every other day if possible. Dont use super hot water. Cold water is actually best for your skin, and stops itching. If I have a "eczema attack" which is when I feel SUPER itchy for some reason, I will have a cold shower, and it feels just as good or better then scratching but without the damage.Find the right moisturizers, and layer them. You need a face moisturizer that's lighter and more suitable for the sensitive areas of the face, and you need a good everyday body lotion, and THEN you also need a heavy cream for problem days/areas. I have more like 6-7, but I'm obsessed. As soon as you get out of the bath/shower, pat dry, apply generous amounts of lotion and massage it all in. Wait a few minutes for it to absorb, and apply the thicker cream on top of any areas that you experience dryness. It's ok if it gets greasy, you just gotta give it time to absorb after. I prance around naked for like 20 mins after bathing, covered in moisturizers. I like to think it's sexy instead of dorky. :)Cleanser recommendations:Exomega Cleansing OilCetaphil cleanserBaby wash (fragrance free)Spectro Gel for Sensitive Dry Skin (some of these may be meant for your face but they are just as good at cleaning your body, etc)Face moisturizer recommendations:Clinique Dramatically Different LotionCetaphil facial lotion(Stuff that says for atopic/sensitive skin and fragrance free is worth a shot if you cant find these two)Body Lotion recommendations:Eucerin Original LotionCetaphil moisturizing lotionE45 lotioncliniderm soothing lotionCream recommendations:Vaseline Creamy: Problem Skin Therapy (literally got me through being a poor teenager, it's cheap and effective)Aquaphor is the most dermatologist recommendedEucerin Healing Ointment (this goes on thick like fucking wax... but it works!)E45 CreamSkin Food by Weleda (if you wanna splurge on something delicious smelling instead of these somewhat medical smelling ones)Steroids:Not great for you, so use sparingly, and if you ACE your routine with the above tips, you shouldnt need them. I will use them occasionally, because I have NO patience, if I have a breakout of eczema, I will definitely treat with meds. I dont usually need to though, as long as I stay vigilant :) Get a Dermatologist, your GP will just prescribe you the weakest, shittiest formulation steroid to get you out of his office. It may not be strong enough, it may not be the right formulation for the area of your body. My Dermatologist, (who is AWESOME, they are not created equal so shop around if you dont like yours... seriously it's like finding the right hair stylist) he gives me three prescriptions, a mild hydrocortisone lotion for my face that absorbs well and isnt sticky, a liquid that I can squirt on my itchy scalp, and a strong triamcinolone ointment that I can put on the eczema on the rest of my body.Emergency Routine:Basically, once you are healed you can act pretty normally. BUT, if I for instance have to crash at a friends' and they have 3 cats... I will likely wake up covered in eczema. This is what I will do:clean everything, launder my bed sheets and clothes, vacuum the carpet, sweep/mop the floors and wipe down shelves/mirrors and dust.Take a warm bath with vinegar and sea salt, OR a cold shower.cover myself in lotioncover myself in creamapply steroids to rashput on clean cotton clothes that cover most of my bodybuff down my nails so they are dull and I cant scratchavoid alcohol/smoking/drugsBonus tip for ladies, trans and/or fashionable men: fake nails literally means you've put plastic nibs on your fingers and cant really scratch yourself as much. Your eczema will improve!

[Skin Concerns] Help! I've had these ingrown hair scars for months and they're still not going anywhere!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've always been prone to scarring/bruising easily, and I've always had a problem with hair removal since my hair grows quickly and has strong roots like you wouldn't believe. So after careful research I went out and bought an epilator. At fist it was great- a little painful, but not having to shave almost daily made it totally worth it, but after a while I started noticing small ingrowns here and there, which didn't bother me initially, but they started appearing darker and refusing to go anywhere. And before you ask- yes I exfoliate daily with a loofah, especially before/after epilation. I've included a picture here in case anyone is morbidly curious...I've tried the PFB Vanish roll-on which everyone raved about, and literally no change after months of use. I have no idea what to do, and it's getting really embarrassing to the point where I can't show my legs in public! I even tried this stupid thing which is worse than useless...any help would be appreciated, thanks!

[Hair Removal] Most effective at-home facial hair removal methods?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm a woman with a serious facial hair problem. I'm extremely self-conscious about it and I'm at my wits' end. I'm fair-skinned and the hair is very thick and dark, on my chin and upper neck. Currently I'm shaving it nearly every day, but I still have stubble or a shadow (plus I have a mole on my chin that's very annoying to shave around!). I've tried at-home waxing but having to grow the hair out is a major downside because of how noticeable it can get. I've also tried multiple brands of depilatory cream but never had any success - even if I leave the cream on for the maximum time recommended on the packaging, no hair is affected and I'm left with smelly skin and usually a chemical burn! I feel like my only option left is laser hair removal, but I really can't afford it. Are there any super effective at-home methods that I don't know about?? Any recommendations are appreciated!

[Product Question] Is it fine to use Elta MD AM at night?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey everyone! Just a quick question!I ran out of my Elta MD PM, which I love, and although I ordered more, it's not going to come until late next week. I've been trying another moisturizer in the meantime, and I think it's making me break out more, and it's also not very moisturizing. I use Atralin (tretinoin) on top of getting peels, and my skin is now looking super dry and flaky. I really need Elta MD's moisturizer!!So, is it okay to use the AM version in the meantime? It doesn't have any SPF, but Im not sure if there is anything else I should look for being deciding whether or not I should have it on my face all night.Any help is greatly appreciated!

[Product Question] can I continue to use CeraVe on my cheeks but not on my forehead, where it breaks me out?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I love what CeraVe PM does for my face... I have chronic winter redness and CeraVe PM basically instantly got rid of it. My cheeks adore this stuff. The only problem is that it's like CC city on my forehead and chin when I use it. So I'm wondering if I can just use it like a serum on my cheeks before another moisturizer which doesn't cause CCs all over my face (Clinique DDML but adding in Mizon Black Snail after patch test)... or if that's weird and not a good idea for my skin?It doesn't cause CCs on my cheeks and reduces redness and sensitivity better than anything I've ever used.Or, as an alternative, does anyone know of any serums and/or moisturizers western or Asian Beauty that have similar ingredients like niacinamides and ceramides that would provide the same benefits as CeraVe but wouldn't clog my forehead (and sometimes chin) up?Thanks!!

[Personal] SUCCESS! I got my spironolactone prescription!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So a couple days ago I submitted a colorful post expressing my rage and frustration at being denied a prescription for spironolactone by both my derm and primary care doc for BS reasons (link). But, I saw a different derm, and lo, the sky parted, the doves flew, and the angels sang, and a glorious voice bellowed from the heavens, THOU ART A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR SPIRONOLACTONE!!! But no really, the new derm asked if I had had acne for a long time (check), had I tried all the topicals (check), did I get breakouts around my period (check), is my skin very oily (very much check), I also told her I get breakouts only chest and back, and she said yep spironolactone is a good idea. She started me at 50mg and also gave me a sulfur wash, and said to keep using the Ziana I was already using. YAY!!!

[Acne] Breaking out hard over last month, bumpy purple spots don't seem to go away.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Picture: http://imgur.com/xlB3o7bSkin type: oilyDuration: over course of last month ish it got pretty bad, but have been getting more acne over the last 3 monthsRoutine: for the last 3 weeks, every night I use some cerave foaming cleanser and then a 10%bp wash, and then stridex pad salicylic acid, and top it off with a neutrogena oil free lotion 15 minutes afterwards. It's a little drying but my skin seems to tolerate it.It seems to just get worse. Is there any way to fade the purple-ness of the bumps? I've done some research but I'm still not sure what type of acne exactly they are but they seem to be poppable and a small amount of your typical whitish/yellow stuff comes out. In the top left corner there's actually one that (accidentally) recently got popped.I've never had acne this bad, so what can I do to prevent it next time, and what are some better treatment options?

[Skin Concerns] Oily but dry at the same time. Not sure how to battle this skin type and the severe acne it brings

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've recently noticed is that my skin seems to be rather oily, yet is also dry. The best way that I can explain it is it's like a yellowish, dried up grease that's all across my forehead and nose. My cheeks don't seem to have it as much, even though they still get hit with redness and huge zits. The pimples come in bunches of 2-3 at a time ranging from small yet prominent, to HUGE and painful. Every other part of my face is red from old battles that I've won/lost with acne. After failing to make a dent in my skin problems for the last 10 years, I now basically only use water, soap on occasion, and CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser. I wash once a day and have recently started wiping the oil/dried grease off of my face throughout the day.Any idea how to counter this weird skin type? I've only ever come across articles describing dry, or oily skin. Forgive me. The reality of accutane being my last hope is becoming clearer and clearer. Trying to avoid this due to family history.

[skin concerns] BHA, AHA, and now Vitamin C, all burn like CRAZY.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have tried Stridex, Paula's Choice, St. Ives and Alpha Hyrodxy for BHA's and AHA's and they all burned so badly I had to stop. I then switched to Curology which does not burn thank god, but now that I added Timeless Vitamin C serum, I am once again having to deal with burning hell fire pain on my face. My PIH is so bad I really wanted to use this product.Does ANYBODY else deal with severe burning with the application of these products? My face does not turn red nor does it last forever, but it's painful for a good 15 minutes.

http://imgur.com/608tvXK Current routine is, AM: mask or cetaphil wash. PM: cetaphil wash, epiduo then cerave.Skin type: normal clear cheeks with oily T-zone with cystic acne in the T-zone. Blotchy red skin in the T-zone as well as PIH.The epiduo has helped tremendously! I still deal with at least one cystic pimple. But, for now I'm dealing with the PIH and blotchyness. [skin concerns] Help with rosacrea/moisturizer. Medication makes skin dry... which makes my face red, yay.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I am currently taking IC Minocycline pills and using Tretinoin Cream to help my rosacea (which only redness, no bumps). Coincidentally, a few days after using the cream, my face has become dry (feeling tight after a shower), which makes my face red. How wonderfully helpful. I always use moisturizer after taking a shower, but rarely does my skin actually feel tight after showering (it hadn't for almost a year until now). I use CeraVe afterward. Is there any tips that someone could help me with? Any success with rosacea? I'm tired of having people comment that my face is flush after working in even slightly cold temperatures. I mean, it got down to 42° last night (whoa so cold...) and my face gets red when I walk into room temperature. I mean, I don't even work outside in the wind. It's just not heated. It wasn't that cold. This gets much worse in the freezing temperatures. I will avoid even going into room temperature until I'm done with work.My face always feels warm or hot.

[Product Question] The ever-elusive "miracle product"

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey, everyone! Before I begin, let the record show that I'm a skincare noob and have no idea what I'm doing or talking about. Anyway, ever since I started having trouble with my skin, I feel like I have been on an eternal quest for a "miracle product" that my skin loves and gives me a glowing, goddess-like face. How realistic of me. And while this product probably doesn't exist, I was just curious as to what you all, if you've found one, of would consider to be your personal "miracle product" (along with some info about your skin type). Sincerely, someone who would be willing to to sell her soul to the devil for clear skin, tbh.PS - I have seen a dermatologist in the past, but not recently. I need to make an appointment soon. I was just curious as to what people consider to be their "saving grace" of skin care.

[Skin Concerns] Should I increase the strength of my AHA to tackle CC's?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi guys, since finding the sub and realising I have like a hundred closed comedones on my forehead I started using NIP+FAB's glycolic fix pads which are 2.8% Glycolic acid. I've been using them for almost 2 months now.Since using them my CC's have reduced in number (especially those big obvious ones) but there are still quite a lot of tiny tiny bumps on my forehead. Also I love the glow the pads have given me! Basically there has been progress - but slow! I have also begun to use them twice a day.I have been thinking of starting to use Alpha Hydrox's 10% Oil free (I think this is a good choice? not sure!). Do you think I should give it another month to see if it improves more, before I increase the strength, or is now a good time? Also I feel like 2.8% to 10% is quite a big step up so I don't want to irritate my skin too much if sticking to the pads would work over time! Thanks for any advice in advance.

[PSA] Remember to replenish bacteria while on antibiotics! Don't end up like me!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been on doxycycline 100mg 2x per day for the past month and a half, and have been dutifully eating yogurt and/or drinking kefir somewhat regularly to counteract the medicine killing the "good" bacteria in my body. Four days ago I came home for the holidays (leaving the US) and completely forgot to ask my parents to get yogurt at the store. I've still been taking the pills, though. This morning, I ate breakfast and took my pill, as usual. As I was trying to do work (sitting at a desk), I noticed that my stomach was hurting as if I needed to use the bathroom. What followed was an agonizing 20 minutes spent on the toilet not being able to get anything out (severe constipation) as well as burping foul fumes. My mom is now out getting me medicine and yogurt while I am writhing in pain. Take care of your stomach, people! Antibiotics aren't a joke.

I'm not sure exactly what ingredient my skin dislikes, but any time I use makeup or sunscreen with SPF my face hates me.Currently using this.Recently purchased this item for face wash.I have combination skin (I tend to break out the most on my chin) and also want something safe to use during pregnancy. Thanks!

[Product Question] Cerave Cleansers + Moisturizers...which to get?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
The cleansers I'm looking at include:-Cerave hydrating cleanser-Hydrating cleanser bar-foaming facial cleanserThe moisturizers I'm looking at include:-Moisturizing cream (with / without pump)-AM and PM facial moisturizing lotion-Moisturizing lotionMy question is, what does a foaming facial cleanser do that a hydrating cleanser bar and hydrating cleanser don't and vice versa? I don't understand the difference. I'm guessing the foaming facial cleanser is looked down upon more because it's harsh I think? No ideaIn terms of moisturizers, why is there an PM / AM facial cream? That to me seems like marketing gimmick. What does lotion do that cream doesn't, which is better?
