[personal] [routine help] I shower 6+ times a day, wear makeup & am in aircon for work. How to look after my skin better?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I wear makeup, am in aircon all day & have to take 6+ showers while at work. This absolutely wrecks havoc on my skin. By the end of the day it feels oily but somehow dry, is flaky and generally gross. When I shower I don't get my face wet at all. If I need to reapply my makeup I blot away any oilyness with a tissue, apply moisturiser to any dry parts, then apply a bit more concealer or powder over the top. By the end of the day it's a gross makeupy feral mess.Is there any way I can take better care of my skin while at work? It's driving me crazy. The makeup & showers are non-negotiable, so please don't suggest doing them less haha :) I'm in Australia - so if recommending products, only things I can get online please :)Current routineAM:Splash with waterSimple Light MoisturiserNeutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch SunscreenPMGarnier Micellar WaterCetaphil Gentle Skin CleanserPaula's Choice Liquid BHA 2% / Alpha Hydrox Lotion AHA 10% - alternating nights. [Routine Help] what can I do about hyper pigmentation, large dirty pores and breakouts!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Okay so my current routine is:Apricot salicylic Scrub AM/PM •I know people hate this scrub but I've tried cream cleansers and other scrubs but they don't clean my face and I break out :( this is the only stuff that has workedBenzoyl peroxide 10% all over AM/PM •anything less than 10% just doesn't work.Clean and Clear moisturizer w/ salicylic acid. AM/PMThe pores ALL over my face are black and big and my face is oily a all over! I used to have super bad acne (was prescribed clindamycin) so now I have scarring everywhere and all new pimples I get have been scarring as well. I also keep getting breakouts mostly on the sides of my face and cheeks.I need a routine and product inspiration.

[Product Question] Thinking of Suing Cerave

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have used Cerave PM for years but upon purchasing a new bottle with the updated packaging I began to notice dryness and irritation. I thought nothing of it because the ingredients on the new packaging were the exact same as the old packaging. I have used Cerave PM for years and often received compliments on my glowing complexion. All I used was gentle cleanser and Cerave PM, I was obsessed with it. However, the Cerave PM in the new packaging just seemed "different." I called the company and asked them if they have updated there formulation as both my eyes and skin began to feel sore. They assured me there has been absolutely no change. I thought perhaps it was the weather or something?I continued to use it, my skin and eyes were just getting worse and worse..sore and dry. I called the company again and they assured me nothing at all has changed. I then began to scour the internet and saw a few reviews of others who stated they have used Cerave PM for several years and upon buying the new packaging, they experienced severe irritation like never before. I also had a bottle of Cerave PM in the old packaging and could apply it with zero problems or irritation. It just didn't make sense that the one in the old packaging caused no irritation and the new packaging was so severely irritating. It was at this point that I began to realize I was not alone and I instantly felt frustrated....I kept applying something to my face that was irritating but the company assured me it was nothing. I felt lied to. I noticed that I developed all these flaky white plugs all over my cheeks and chin, it was itchy and dry, my eyes felt so sore and tired. I stopped using the product. I called the company and told them all about my reaction and how several other people experienced the same thing and are positive the formulation has changed. On the review section of Beautypedia for Cerave PM, there were several people who stated that they have used this product for years with absolutely no problem but once they bought one in the new packaging, it caused severe irritation. They received so many of these comments that the Beautypedia team actually contacted Cerave and told them this and Cerave once again continued to maintain that nothing had changed. When I called Cerave and told them about my experience they said we will look into it but I'm positive they never did. When I wrote about my experience on their facebook page, they blocked me.Below is a memo Beautypedia wrote as part of their review for the product:NOTE: As of summer 2015, we were informed by our readers that there has been a potential reformulation of this product. We appreciate your patience while we take the time to thoroughly update this review! Here is the real nightmare….the new version of this product completely destroyed my skin. It has been over a year that I have stopped using it and it has never returned to normal. The allergic reaction was so strong. My cheeks and chin are always covered in these white plugs...when I use something to try and exfoliate them off...they all appear again within 8 hours. They are small white flake like plugs that are stuck in my skin, all over cheeks and chin. I cannot use any sort of steroid because of problems in the past. My main dermatologist thinks the irritation from the product caused me to develop seb derm. However, I have none of the redness or oily skin associated with seb derm. The antifungals he gave me did nothing at all for it.I have no idea what this is and how to treat it. My eyes have been damaged ever since, they are severely dry and sore all the time. My eyelids are stuck together when I wake up. I thought once I discontinued the Cerave PM that all the irritation would completely disappear, but it never did. I don't know how to treat what it did to my skin. I have been unemployed for an entire year.I have seen 15 reviews and counting from people stating that they believe the formulation for this product has changed. I'm sure this product works great for many people. My biggest frustration is that the company did not really seem to care about all these people who have been loyal to the cream for years now suffering allergic reactions. They did not take into consideration that people who have been using the cream for years were reacting to the formulation in the new packaging. They maintained that nothing was different. It was just very negligent. You would think a company would take the issue seriously if there are so many people who are positive that it has changed. Perhaps the company was playing dumb to save face. I emailed Cerave so many times about this issue because I was so frustrated by the whole thing. I have been living in depression because I have not been able to reverse what this has done to me. Does anyone know what could be wrong with my skin? Do you think I would be able to sue them?ThanksHere are just a few of the reviews posted by others regarding the formula via Beautypedia:” This used to be my go to moisturizer, but like lots of other people here have commented, my skin had a very unpleasant reaction! On either side of my nose it's red, inflamed, and has little whiteheads. Something has definitely changed in the formula. Such a shame because it was perfect!’” I have used several bottles of this product with great results. Just purchased a new bottle, and my skin literally hurts. My clear skin now has dry, red, itchy blotches that are flaking. It set my skin on fire immediately after applying it. So sad.”“Not sure if this is my moisturizer anymore. After reading all of the complaints, I think I've found the source of my problems. I have used this PM moisturizer for a couple of years with no problem. Recently, my 65 year old face broke out like a teenager's, with itchy pimples. I couldn't figure out what was up-nothing new in my skin care regimen. I now realize I opened a new bottle of the PM moisturizer just about a month ago and that's when my face broke out. Coincidence? Maybe not. I'm going to stop and see if I clear up!”Here was Beautypedia’s response to one of the comments regarding the formulation change: Beautypedia Team Response: Hey Amanda! Thanks for your feedback. We've been wondering the same thing for months... although the bottles we've seen at stores in our area (Seattle) have ingredients that match what Beautypedia currently has listed, we've gotten reports from many readers that they believe it may have been reformulated. When we've contacted CeraVe multiple times with the concern, they claim that it has not been reformulated, and that the ingredients listed on their site (which match ours) are accurate. Rest assured, though, we are looking into it - we are just hesistant to update the review with anything beyond the note above until we feel confident in what we'd be saying. Fingers crossed we get some resolution soon!

[Acne] Treating a pimple after the head has disappeared

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi all,Lately I've been getting a very particular type of pimple that I'm not used to. They start of as a red bump (not painful) then grow to have a pretty small head. Once the head is gone (typically it'll, err, ripen until it's so weak it breaks in the shower or something, and doesn't come back). But then afterwards I'm left with a small red bump (again not painful) that sticks around for a week or two, then eventually shrinks and I'm left with some pretty bad PIH/PIE.Having experimented with hydrocolloid bandages, I have decided that they worsen my acne (even with lancing). How do you all treat pimples after the head stage? Is it possible to speed up healing and hopefully reduce the likelihood of scarring?

[personal] Rant about un-solicited acne advice from strangers. Why? Just why?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Well you guys, if you have had acne or lurk this sub at all, then this is probably nothing new to you, but I just need to rant and get this off my chest.I've always had extremely persistent and moderate acne, however, I am on my 4th (starting 5th today) month of Accutane, and my acne has recently EXPLODED to the severe side.Recently I noticed that the girl I sit next to in class has been looking at me a lot, which I found odd since I sit opposite the screen, so I'm not exactly in her view. We're not exactly on a name basis (as in I have no clue what her name is). Anyways, after class she asks me to stay a minute. I said "yeah of course" because I'm the TA for the class, so I assumed she wanted to ask me a brief question about the lecture or notes. She starts off "I wanted to wait for the professor to leave so he didn't hear and jeopardize your professionalism. I used to have awful acne, worse than yours, if you can even believe it"My jaw dropped. I assumed she was going to have a normal question, oh you know, about the notes? Nope. She hands me this mask ,which is the functional equivalent to nail polish remover (acetone) and urges me to put it on my face three times a day and my acne problem will be cured. My face turned beet red, I thanked her and basically bolted out of room out of embarrassment.I do appreciate the kindness. I just can't understand why people get the idea this kind of behaviour is ok? My skin is not a freaking democracy, you don't get a vote. And the notion that my professor finding out I have acne (shock) would jeopardize my professionalism? What the actual heck was that?Anyways, it was pretty detrimental to my always low skin self confidence. Sorry for the rant. I feel better already just typing this. What are your acne advice horror stories?TDLR: Random girl from class told me to put the functional equivalent of nail polish remover on my face to rid me of my acne

[ACNE] x-post from r/AB: Simple things and habits I've noticed that help keep my skin clear

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I shared this list a little bit earlier today with r/AsianBeauty and many users loved it. I thought that r/SkincareAddiction users might benefit from it too, so I'll also post it here! Hoping someone finds this useful for helping clear up their acne a bit :) A little background about me first: I got into AB at the beginning of July last year (2015). You might remember this post if you were involved in the community at the time. The point is, my skin likes to be babied. It doesn't like being poked, picked, scratched, rubbed, chafed, or abused. I've had acne since I was 12 years old. Yes, 12. I was still in 7th grade at that time. My acne was mild then, but it has noticeably progressed over the years, and became hormonal during high school (around my junior year, IIRC.) I always thought that using products that would dry my skin out would clear up my acne for good. I abided by Western skincare practices, and used an exfoliating face wash, astringent toner, and light moisturizer, followed by a benzoyl peroxide spot cream. If I didn't have a spot treatment, I would dab rubbing alcohol or tooth paste on my pimples. Did that type of routine work? Yeah, but only for the first week... and then my skin would become terribly dehydrated, flaky, sensitive, and red. I was on my high school swim team, and I would have practice every weekday for about 2 hours. As soon as I got out of the pool, I would reapply my makeup and go home instead of washing my face since I was so embarrassed of my acne. I would frequently sleep in my makeup and wouldn't wash my sheets more than once every two months. I would pick my skin almost daily, and then not wash my face after picking for sometimes hours. Basically, my skincare habits were terrible and unsanitary. I didn't consistently follow my routine, and I slept in my makeup. So fast-forward a few years... I'm now in my early twenties and I have a well-established skincare routine that centers around AB and AB practices. The most clearly-defined Asian skincare practice being to keep my skin hydrated, even if it's oily. I follow my routine religiously, and when I don't, I sheet-mask or use an extra amount of my Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream ;) Since sticking with my routine, my acne has significantly cleared up and my skin has become brighter, glow-ier, and smoother. I just wanted to share with the community that I've noticed simple things over the past year or two that have immensely helped keep my skin clear. Here they are (finally):Do not pick, squeeze, scratch, or dig at your pimples or skin if you can help itKeep track of your progress with picking at your skin with an app; stay accountable for pickingIf you've got a pimple or whitehead that's about to pop or come out, wash your hands/sanitize them first and then LIGHTLY pop the pimple; immediately put a hydrocolloid bandage on itKeep your sheets (and especially your pillowcase) clean; wash them at least once or twice a monthDo you morning skincare routine daily and don't skimp on the sunscreenDon't reapply powder makeup more than once in a day; instead, blot with a tissue or paper towel or toilet paper and then lightly swipe or dab over it with a makeup brush or sponge that has nothing on it to fix the finishIf you wear makeup, wash it off nightly and continue with your nightly routineIf you really can't do your entire routine, at the very least: cleanse with a cleansing water/wipe and put your active or prescription on followed by at least one moisturizer or emulsionTry to be cognizant of your hand placement during the day, and keep your hands away from your face as much as possible, especially if you haven't washed them or used hand sanitizerResearch the ingredients in all the products you would like to buy BEFORE you buy them and take note of the ingredients your skin is sensitive toWrite down your current routine somewhere and record your skin's progress using pictures, qualitative analysis, or quantitative analysis (by this, I mean count the number of pimples on your face at a point in time and record it) and try to determine whether or not your skin gets better or worse when a new product is introduced or an old product is thrown outIntroduce only one new product at once, and use it for at least 2 weeks before introducing another new product (because who am I kidding? Patch-testing takes way too much patience when it comes to acne breakouts... if I breakout after a new non-active product has been introduced, I'll know the product doesn't work for me and I'll stop using it)Be patient with active products and prescription products; they can take weeks or months for your skin to adjust to, depending on their strengths; don't give up if they cause an initial purge or breakoutTailor your day-to-day moisturizing routine depending on how hydrated your skin feelsPay attention to your skin a day or two after using a sheet mask; if it looks like it's bright and clearer than usual, use another sheet mask that week; if it looks dull or the texture feels "off," give your skin a breather and wait until the following week to use another sheet mask (YMMV for this one: I've noticed I get tiny whiteheads if I sheet mask too often in one week)Go to sleep around the same hour consistently and don't mess with your sleep schedule if you can help it; my skin breaks out when I don't have a regular sleeping schedule; try to get the same amount of rest every night (that could be 5 hours of sleep or 8 hours of sleep; just keep it CONSISTENT)Wipe down surfaces your face or hands touch regularly with a sanitizing wipe (phone, car steering wheel, hand sanitizer bottles, desks, laptops or cases, closet doors, handles, bathroom counters, etc.)Use prescription oral medications if your acne is hormonal (e.g. spironolactone, birth control, accutane, etc.)Can't emphasize this enough, but use sunscreen daily if you're going out (even to work or school)Suggestions from other users:If you think your acne could be hormonal, make an appointment to see your doctor. Don't be stubborn like I was and needlessly suffer with acne. It has made a huge difference in my skin's texture, softness, and of course clarity. I wish I had started taking spironolactone years ago. (from u/marmot33)I would also like to add drinking lots of water, I noticed my skin gets very congested if I'm dehydrated (from u/feverrayz)washing sheets/pillowcases: You really should be doing this once a week, especially if you use hair products. So much dirt and oil builds up, not to mention sweat and facial products. My tip: flip your pillow over every night (clean side!) And change it once a week. And get some silk ones! You'll thank yourself when you're old like me. (from u/misspiemisspoke)If you're a chronic picker (like me) I'd recommend getting acrylic tips! They might not be for everyone, but I've found being physically unable to pick my skin is the only way I stop. Team no self-restraint over here haha. (from u/AnthonyJCrawly)instead of popping, get some lancets from a pharmacy. they're basically teeny scalpels and make a nice clean cut that heals better than the tear of a pop. lancet are about 8$for 100. (from u/IWankYouWonk)My tip: Wash your hands well before bed and if you put handcream on make sure that it's not something that will make you break out if you accidentally transfer some of it to your face while sleeping. (from u/pennypoppet) I probably have more somewhere stored deep in my brain but those are the suggestions that come to mind at the moment. Keep in mind, these are things that I've personally noticed over the last year that have improved my acne. I'm currently 85% clear and am in love with the texture and brightness of my complexion. I still have a little more progress to make with becoming totally clear, but compared to a year ago, my skin is doing fantastic and I couldn't be more grateful to this community and the wonderful source of knowledge its users have been :) All hail the snail! P.S. If you have any other simple tips you'd like me to add to the list, please leave them in the comments!

[B&A] Accutane - For those curious / concerned about it

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I made some progress posts over in /r/accutane and thought they'd be relevant here as well. Before going on the meds I was pretty concerned about the side effects and didn't really want to do it, so I was hoping I could help people who were in my shoes 4 months ago. I decided to cut my course short because I'm a college student and not drinking is pretty tough socially. Here is a link to my original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Accutane/comments/40x3f8/1_month_progress/Original album from the post, month 1 and 2: http://imgur.com/a/zpsY5 (If you don't care about the text)This second album here shows my last (3rd) month and also a month after I've stopped taking the medication (green hoodie = 1 month after). Most recent album: http://imgur.com/a/lfzOETo kind of circle around to why I originally posted these albums, I was unsure of going onto the medication. For others in my spot, it's really no big deal. If I was more self disciplined I'd stick with it, but it began to be a drag for me not to be able to go out and really enjoy myself. In terms of side effects they were non existent with me. Minor aches around week 3-5 and after that nothing, dry skin and lips to be sure but that's nothin. No mood swings / depression, the opposite actually felt quite good with the confidence boost. Now I'm gonna enjoy this glass of whisky that I couldn't have on my birthday a month ago :') Cheers to you all, those that are going on it, or are currently doing it, and those that read all the way through, keep on keepin on.

[Product Question] How much PC BHA liquid, or Stridex to use? Should there be a visibly wet layer on top of your entire face?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm curious if it matter's, because if I use a cotton pad for the PC BHA, at first it leaves a wet layer on 1/4 of my face, but then it seems like the rest of my face doesn't get much love, and there's no wetness on it as I swipe... (I assume it runs out)Do you re wet your cotton a few times while you do it?Stridex has a lot in it, so it wets the entire face...Also, if I go over the same area again after it dries 30 seconds or whatever later, will it be twice the strength? (not a good thing)

[Product Question] Which vitamin c serum should I buy?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
First of all, I spent like 2 hours on Amazon looking at products because:Vitamin E is in fricken everything. It breaks me out.Hyaluronic acid makes me itchy, this seems to be a popular ingredient to combine with vit cI suspect niacinamide actually makes my rosacea flare, so that's another ingredient I try to avoidBut anyway. I found two that have peaked my interest. This one, a bit more expensive but more basic I don't know much about the first ingredient but I think i'd get a better idea if vit c would work for me since I'm so sensitive. So playing "narrow the ingredients break me out" game would be simple.Second option Cheaper, which is better. Also my skin love glycerin, which is something I was eyeing in a toner on Amazon. I'm just unsure on the Polysorbate 20.Opinions? With my luck vit c won't work for my skin which is why I'm more hesitant to try the more expensive option. But I'm willing to pay if you guys think otherwise.

[PSA] For those who have been prescribed Doxycycline or any other antibiotic for acne (especially girls)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Doxycycline and other antibiotics kill off all the bacteria, including the good bacteria. This affects your gut, and your vagina. I don't know why doctors don't tell you this when they prescribe them, but to prevent nausea and yeast infections, eat yogurt with live cultures and/or take probiotics! My mom is a nurse, and told me this the first time I was prescribed antibiotics that I administered myself, that is the only reason I know lol. But I was just prescribed Doxycycline for my cystic acne, and wanted to see what people had to say about it here. I saw a lot of comments about stomach upset and yeast infections, so here you go, internet.

[PSA] Glossier Skin Tint/Amazing customer service

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I just got this email from Glossier:Hi there, We’re reaching out because you’ve recently purchased one of our most popular products—Perfecting Skin Tint—in the Light or Medium shade. We noticed that some tints from this most recent batch have gradually darkened over time. This may not have happened to you, in which case you can keep using it—either way it is totally safe. If you do notice some change in color, we are sorry. This is a fairly common issue with skin-toned makeup, but should never be a problem for Glossier products. We want you to have the correct shade—always. We’re working with our new factory to optimize production of future batches so that this doesn’t happen again. When the new batch is in (a couple of months from now), we’re sending you a new bottle free of charge. We’re also refunding you for your original Perfecting Skin Tint purchase. You should receive a refund confirmation email shortly. Please hang in there with us as we perfect our Perfecting Skin Tint! Sincerely, Team Glossier

[Miscellaneous] I visited a dermatologist today and she gave me Aczone samples... But I don't have severe acne?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello! I visited a dermatologist today because of my hair loss and ended up speaking to her about my skin. I do get spots every now and then... but I feel like they aren't that severe. They're annoying and hurt my self-confidence... but?... I posted before about the bumps between my eyebrows, but even those aren't incredibly noticeable. Anyway, she gave me some Aczone samples and... I just don't know! Do I need this? Should I try it? If anything, I'm more concerned about my skin's inconsistency in being oily and dry. and. picking. I'm just a mess. :/What should I do with the Aczone? :( Any answers are appreciated!!

[Skin Concerns] Getting so sick of my skin, what is this? Pictures Included.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
My face is always red, extremely dry (constantly peeling), and occasionally it gets really blotchy. I have no idea what's causing it but it's causing some major self esteem issues. I can't use most moisturizers as it makes it worse and burns. Here's a picture of what I've been dealing with. It's mostly my cheeks, nose, forehead and I have a small red bumpy patch in the center of my chest. It's not itchy, just usually feel warm and feels like my face is on fire sometimes. Any tips or ideas what this may be? http://i.imgur.com/NNey4zx.jpg

[Skin Concerns] I'm struggling with random redness in my face. Any suggestions to what might be the case?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey. For quite a few years now I've been struggling with the fact that my face turns red and really hot. This happens from things like embarrassment and alcohol, to just sitting in a chair by myself, reading a book.Sometimes the issue is just on one side of my face as well, which I took some pictures of about 2 weeks ago. Link here: http://imgur.com/a/GBr1hThese pictures are taken at the same time, and you can see it was just happening on one side that time.I had eczema as a child, but have pretty much grown out of it now, some dry skin in the winter, but that is pretty much it. I haven't used too many products or anything before, but I'm gonna try to start with that now. Trying a cleanser before showers, and moisturizer after. This is a very big issue for me, as it happens fairly often. I pretty much never drink anymore, as just a can of beer gets my face flaming hot and red. Happens about 90% of the times I drink alcohol.Any suggestions regarding the issue will be greatly appreciated. It have stopped me from doing a lot of things in the past years, and I'm sick of it.

[Routine Help] Is there a mask out there that has advantages stretching further than temporarily making the skin look good?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Here's the thing. I've used numeral facial masks in my life, but I have no idea, hard science knowledge, whether any one of them actually made my skin healthier/better. Yes, lots of them make your skin look good temporarily (the rest of the day or even for a few days). But are there facial masks out there that actually contribute to a smart skincare regimen? Masks that bring some real anti-aging power to our regimens? Or is leaving some products for < 30 min. always gonna be a superficial and temporarily fix instead of a part of a broader, future proof and long-term foundation?

[Routine Help] Help me get rid of blackheads and figure out what I'm doing!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
~~Hey! I'm looking for a bit of a critique on my routine and I have a couple questions as well.First off I have an oily skin type, I believe.Every day, twice a day, I use a Burts Bees sensitive skin cleanserEvery other day or three days, I exfoliate with some Burts Bees ExfoliatorEvery day after I shower I use a Cetaphil Moisturizer.I shave every other dayWhen I shave, should I cleanse/exfoliate first? I'm wondering where shaving falls into the order of things. Also I have a ton of blackheads and large pores on and around my nose, should I start using a mineral pre-cleanser to get rid of those? If so, where should I look for one? I used one of those blackhead remover strips the other day and it was literally filled with long gross things. Other than that I don't have much acne, I have softer skin and it hasn't been flaring up much at all lately. Thanks for the help!

[Product Question] Thoughts on Mederma for face scars? (Not acne or self harm)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Over the years I've taken a few rocks to the face (thanks, mountain biking) and have been left with a several scars. The most noticeable one is on the bridge of my nose, which you can see the outline of in this photo. I probably could have used a doctor to close that one up (it was a big flap) but alas, I decided it would probably be fine.I'm getting married in a few months and figured now is as good a time as any to try to clean them up a little bit. I did some googling and found this Advanced Scar Gel by Mederma – any opinions? The one on my nose happened last summer, but some of these babies are several years old. Is it too late?

[Skin Concerns] I broke out in a rash all over my face with no change to my skincare routine. Any advice?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I woke up yesterday with a rash all over my face. It's red, puffy, and raised. No pain or itchiness, so that's good I guess. The picture shows just one cheek, but that blotchy redness is everywhere except my nose and chin, and is much more vibrant than the picture shows (crappy office lighting down plays it).I have done nothing to change my routine and all of my products are fairly recently purchased, so I doubt it's an issue with something having gone bad (nothing is older than 6 months). I can post my routine and products if anyone thinks it would help, but I really just want advice on how to make it go away instead of trying to identify the cause. This used to happen to me a lot in high school so I'm really not too concerned about the "why". It always clears up on it's own after a few weeks, but I have to defend my thesis in a week and really hate the idea of speaking in front of a bunch of people looking like this.Does anyone have any suggestions for calming a rash? Am I supposed to moisturize it or let it dry out? Would simply taking an antihistamine help? Or does that only help if it's a true allergic reaction? For product suggestions, I'm in the US and don't really care about price range; if it works then I'm willing to pay for it. Skin type is normal to dry, but I live in a very dry climate so any dryness is usually attributed to that. Ugh!I'm an adult, I thought I had left these days behind me.Thank you all for any advice you may have.

[Skin Concerns] Small red blotches after showering

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So this has happened before and someone suggested I get a shower filter, which I did. But it doesn't seem to be doing much for this problem. They only appear after my showers. And I don't take overly long, scalding hot showers. I keep the water lukewarm and my showers last all of 5-8 minutes. These 'splotches' only appear on my shoulders, around my neck, and on my upper chest, nowhere else. They're all about the same size, about the size of a quarter. And they have this small bump in the middle that looks like a mosquito bite. They're not itchy and if I leave them alone, they'll generally fade within 30 minutes-an hour. I use a natural shampoo so I know it's not a bad reaction to the shampoo. I know it doesn't seem too dire, as they're not itchy or permanent, but it's just sort of concerning to look in the mirror and see all these red blotches all over me. Someone has suggested they may be just heat blisters? And I just don't know what to do then if that's the case because I really can't stand taking cold showers...

So far i've seen quite a lot of improvement yet my face is still kinda red, not oily anymore though. I'm using basic moisturizer and la rosche posay effaclar gel cleanser morning and night. For my question: Sometimes i feel like the cleansers doesn't wash off that well. Or maybe im just thinking. I rinse my face like 4-7 times just to be sure. Kinda splash water on my face trying to avoid contact since my face is really sensitive, especially while im on accutane now. How do you know there's no any amount of cleansing product on your face? Do you rub your face gently with water? Or just splash water on your face? How many times?

[Sun Care] Body lotion with SPF that's available (and not too expensive) in central Europe?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi guys,I've been looking for a daily body lotion with SPF. When I first thought about it, I was like "Shouldn't be a problem, right?" Well, it is. I've read good things about the Eucerin Daily Protection Moisturizing Body Lotion, but the problem is that I can't seem to get a hold of it here in central Europe. I did find it on Amazon, but it was labelled at about 137€ there, and I'm not willing to pay that amount of money. Does anyone have any suggestions for good body lotion with SPF that's available in central Europe and that doesn't cost a fortune? Or is it possible to just mix regular body lotion with regular sunscreen? Thanks for any replies :)

[Skin Concerns] How long does it take for a fine line to turn into a wrinkle?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So tonight I noticed a new fine line creeping down from my right nasolabial fold, and, while it was possibly because I had laughed and smiled a lot tonight, I still am concerned. I'm 24, I already use sunscreen and all that stuff, but not retinoids. I do already know that retinoids are the best way to combat this - trust me, I'd be using them if I could! The reason I can't is that I'm doing laser hair removal on my face (I'm a trans girl who used to have a full thick beard. Yuck), and, while most of my facial hair has disappeared, I will still need more sessions on my upper lip. And, since I have to wait 6 weeks in between sessions, 6 MORE sessions will take approximately 9 months. In that time, I'm going to be using tretinoin on the rest of my face if my laser technician says it's ok, but I won't be able to use anywhere near my upper lip. This includes my nasolabial folds. In these next 9 months, should I worry about this fine line turning into a deeper wrinkle that will never completely go away? I've had fine lines go away before, so I know that's possible. But I know actual wrinkles are another story. So what do you think? How concerned should I be about not being able to use a retinoid probably until I'm 25?

[Routine Help] OCM confusion

Beauty Tips For Body Care
after a bit of lurking here, i am a bit confused as to how to do OCM. Oily skin for reference . Here is my routine at nite: I wear makeup and currently use jojoba oil to remove my makeup. I use a cotton ball to remove it after massaging the oil in. I then do it again once I've removed most of it, (so I repeat the above) and I still see makeup on the cotton ball. Then I use thayers witch hazel on a cotton ball. I usually will still see a little bit of makeup on the ball. I do NOT use any facial cleanser after the oils- Except maybe 2 times a week I'll do this. My question is, do I need to implement facial cleanser daily? In the mornings, I just splash my face with water then go about with my sunscreen and makeup. In the evening, am I sufficiently cleaning my face with oil or not? I have seen conflicting info on this sub.Thank you!

[Routine Help] KP lotions + physical exfoliation + SPF Recommendations?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey friends!Newbie to the thread, and I've searched the subreddit and couldn't find anything specific on this. I've also read the posting guidelines, but if I misunderstood anything and goofed something up in the process, I'm really sorry!I've been reading up on KP and how to get rid of it, which seems to be AHA's. I've also read that following up with moisturizer seems to be the way to go. I'm looking at getting the PC Resist Skin Revealing Body Lotion w/ 10% AHA followed by the PC Resist Skin Smoothing Body Treatment w/ Retinol (I thought it was body acne for the longest time, so I picked. A lot. So now I've gotta deal with the hyper-pigmentation too.)I've also heard that physical exfoliation, such as Salux cloths or body brushing, can help reduce bumps and scarring, but I've also heard that this can aggravate the KP or that paired with chemical exfoliation it may be too much. I just don't know what to do on this front at all. Finally, sunscreen. I know when you use chemical exfoliants you need to up your SPF, but I have no idea what SPF I should be looking at! I'm working as a summer camp counselor at a sports camp all summer, which means my uniform is the camp's tank top and shorts all summer. No where to cover up for sun protection, and most activities take place on a field, so no shade to hide under either. I don't want to make my scarring any worse than I already have!So sorry for the random collection of questions, and I really appreciate all the help I can get!

[skin concern] Is this an allergic reaction? It's only on my chin.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I was really stupid on Sunday and didn't patch test a new foundation primer/sunscreen. Everything was fine on Sunday, but come Monday my chin was a little bit itchy. Didn't think too much of it and just was doing cold water compresses to get some relief. I woke up today to this https://imgur.com/a/6l4znIt's quite painful and itchy and obviously looks horrendous! Thankfully I don't have to leave the house today so I'm not going to cover it up with makeup. What is this? An allergic reaction? Is there anything I can or should do to get some relief? Also, I just moved to Denmark, so I don't really know of any products to use. Please help me!

[Acne] I meet with a doctor tomorrow, my hormones are going haywire. How to get the most out of my appointment?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey SCAers, I have been on yaz for 8 years but my skin is getting worse. A week before my period I get multiple inflamed, cystic type of acne. It started off as one or two zits per month, but I currently have 5. One on my nose, and 4 around my chin and jawline. I'm pretty certain these are hormone related. I want to say that these breakouts started around last fall and it's been slowly getting worse.I can't go to a derm due to my insurance, but I'm finally meeting with a school doctor tomorrow. It isn't ideal since they aren't specializing in skin care, but it's what I have to work with. I also have to be on a specific type of bc due to having endometriosis which complicates things.Should I bring up spironolactone? Should I ask for a hormone test? The last school doctor had no idea what pill to put me on for acne so I decided to stay on yaz even though it hasn't been working as well. Also, I used to be on either Loryna or Gianvi which are yaz generics. Since transferring to this school last fall they put me on Vestura which is another generic. Is it possible that this generic brand has been causing me break outs? I've never been on Vestura before and I've been breaking out close to when I started taking it but I don't know if that makes sense, since it has the active ingredients that yaz has. I'm trying to think of every possible avenue I can explore so I can be prepared for the doctor.Oh and my routine is pretty much perfect, I've only just started breaking out within the last few months so I think it's strictly hormone related. Thanks so much for reading!

[Skin Concerns] A bunch of tiny red dots around eyes right after a lot of crying

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everybody,So I've had a very stressful night after a big fight and I cried A LOT. That was a few hours ago. I have rosacea, so my problem areas were extra red and my eyes are very puffy, the usual stuff, but I noticed that I have a bunch of tiny red dots (very close together) under my left eye, a few (also close) under my right eye, like 3 or 4 (not that close) above each my eyelids. That has never happened before! I'm shocked about how all of them appeared so quickly in like two hours crying on and off, and so many of them!I'm scared that they are broken capillaries and they won't go away, it's making me so nervous :( or maybe petechiae? They don't lose color when I press on them. Here's a close up, please don't mind my awful rosacea next to it: http://imgur.com/lFGpUh6Thank you!

[Routine Help] [Acne] New to SCA and would really appreciate some pointers/advice

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello SCAI have lurked on this sub for at least a year now. My first SCA inspired purchases were CeraVe SA Face wash and the CVS brand of CeraVe lotion. Those switches alone really helped my acne. Even though I still had acne problems, they were less sporadic and I knew what to expect. While lurking over Christmas Break this year I threw out anything I owned with a "scrub" and picked up the Stridex red box. I have closed comedones all over my chin and sebaceous filaments all over my nose. I was really hoping this BHA product would help, but it was really drying. After reading about grits I bought 100% mineral oil (My grit tally is a total of 2) and THEN I started using the stridex again because I thought the OCM would help reduce the drying. This actually worked out pretty well and I thought I started purging. In the past year, I've usually had 1 to 3 pimples at a time, most took at least 3 weeks to fully form, come to a head, then heal. Since OCM + stridex I've had 4 to 6 pimples at a time, but they are fully forming or healing within a week or so. It has been over 3 weeks and is still the case, but the most frustrating thing is that I have noticed absolutely 0 change to the closed comedones on my chin. The new pimples have not been on or near my chin, mostly on my cheeks, where I've rarely had problems in the past.So my real question is... is this purging and should I just wait longer? Is there another option for my chin or do I just need to continue what I'm doing? Also, I don't have a highly developed skin care routine and noticed that a lot of people have serums or toners. Are these products things I could possibly incorporate to reduce some of the drying from the stridex?I would love a routine critique with maybe some possible additions that would help my specific problems.I'm a US based college student, so while I have access to a bunch of stuff and this is a priority of mine, I'm also pretty broke all the time.Okay my current routine:AM:CeraVe SA cleanserCVS brand CeraVe style lotionMy primer has an SPF 15 in it ( I should probably be doing something more with a sun screen, but I hate how my face feels when I'm wearing them)PM:Mineral OilCeraVe SA cleanserStridex Red boxCVS brand CeraVe style lotionThank you all so much for helping me really take control over my face and how I look. While I'm not super happy about the process, I hope that clear skin in the end will all be worth it.

[Skin Concerns] Keratosis Pilaris? Something else? ingrown hairs all over my legs when I shave. I'm kinda insecure about my legs and want to take better care of my skin [pic]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
It's probably not as bad as I think it is, but I can't really shave my legs any more and I honestly like having smooth legs so I'm kinda upset. My knees are the worst, I literally have to gently dig ingrown hairs up from under the top layer of skin and I used to shave about weekly which doesn't seem too wild... (they aren't infected, the hairs just don't surface) I also have the bumps all over my upper arms but I don't shave my arms so they don't look nearly that bad.I asked my doctor about it and she didn't give me any real advice and just told me not to exfoliate roughly.Maybe I need to wax? Or would that only irritate the skin worse?picI don't have a lot of money, so I can't afford expensive treatments and I have pretty sensitive skin but I'm willing to experiment a bit. I'm in USAI also have kinda painful / uncomfortable bumps on my elbows, and I don't shave those either =/. edit: automod deleted my first post and now I can't post for a certain period of time FFS

[Anti-Aging] I'm at a loss for product ideas.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
What has worked for you? I also have oily T Zone and bigger pores around my cheeks that I want to shrink. I want to make my skin look brighter, more collagen, etc. basically I'm almost 30 and I want my skin to look as close to 21 as possible.I used epiduo and cerave moisturizer for the longest time. I just bought Olay Regenerist eye serum and thick cream, but my skin is so shiny now that you can probably see your reflection in it. Complete oil slick. Had to return them. Also the eye serum had gold shimmer in it or something.I asked my doctor for a retinoid stronger than epiduo but it came out to $200 so I couldn't afford it because my epiduo is $25. I've been using the epiduo for 2 years, it helps control acne too, but since I'm still looking for anti aging products maybe it's not doing its job.

[Acne] For Anyone Suffering from Cystic Acne, I Have a Suggestion

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've had hormonal acne forever, but it was only one or two deep cystic pimples around my period or when I was stressed. Towards the end of high school it became more severe and painful and frequent. I spent years trying every face wash, lotion, mask, etc., designed for acne. All the at home remedies, Doxycycline, and even Spironolactone last year. I am 23 now and have finally found something that works for me and I wanted to share it with anyone who is at their wit's end...I went back to using the green Stridex box. I have sensitive skin and this helped me so much when I was younger. I stopped when the pimples were more frequent because I thought it wasn't strong enough. Now I know it's plenty effective and doesn't irritate my skin like other things I've tried. If you don't have sensitive skin I'd totally recommend the red box. If my skin is feeling a little dry, I omit the Stridex in the morning and just scrub my face a little with a face cloth in the shower. Just to get any peeling skin off.I was using the Alpha Hydrox 10% facial lotion for almost a year. It helped SO much. It stung at first but I got used to it and it became something I couldn't live without. I actually don't need it anymore but it's great for anyone trying to get their skin to a manageable spot. It isn't really needed after that.I have a prescription for Tretinoin, or Retin-A Micro. I tried it in the past but never had the patience to get beyond the "it looks worse before it gets better" phase. It took about 3 months of using it twice daily, figuring out the best time for me to use it in my routine, and getting past that phase. It is so effective. It doesn't help with the red spots but it shortens the life of the cysts dramatically. I wish I had stuck with it before. In the morning following cleansing (or face cloth-ing) the 10% glycolic lotion, and a toner, I'd use the tretinoin. I'd wait for it to dry, use more toner, and use my soothing moisturizer. At night I put the tretinoin on last.Following the Alpha Hydrox lotion, I'd use a toner. Originally I used Lush's Eau Roma Water, but it was too expensive to maintain but I bought rose water from the store and it works the same. Since I stopped the lotion, I spray the toner on all over my face after cleansing in the morning and apply the tretinoin afterward.Once that dried I sprayed more toner to wet my face and applied Lush's Skin Drink. This moisturizer has saved my face. As soon as I run out my skin breaks out again and it's dry and angry. I ran out for a week and in that time my face was hurting so badly. Of course Lush was waiting on a new batch and were sold out so I had to deal with crying any time I accidentally bumped my chin. But I've been since been reunited with the Skin Drink and my skin is going back to normal. The cysts are down almost to nothing and things are coming to the surface so I'm relieved. So here is my routine before:AM- Scrub with facecloth in shower/use green Stridex afterward- Alpha Hydrox 10% Glycolic Lotion- Lush's Eau Roma Water Toner- Tretinoin to my whole face- More toner once it dried- Lush's Skin Drink- Lush's Jackie Oats makeupPM- Green stridex- Alpha Hydrox Lotion- Skin Drink- TretinoinMy Routine Now:AM- Facecloth in shower/ green Stridex- Let it dry and spray on Rose Water toner- Apply Tretinoin to whole face- Let that try and spray on more toner- Skin Drink-Jackie OatsPM- Stridex- Rose Water Toner- Skin Drink- Tretinoin- And Vaseline only on dry patchesI really hope this helps someone. I have a long way to go to heal my face but it's finally manageable and sometimes I don't need makeup!! I feel more confident and more at ease in my skin knowing there is one less part of my body I need to worry about.Sorry if it was hard to follow, it's difficult to see in this tiny box!

[Product Question] Basic, lightweight moisturizer for someone who can't tolerate Cerave/Cetaphil?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I also have issues with the Simple line of products. Currently I use La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 and I really like this. I highly recommend it to everyone with sensitive skin who needs a heavier cream. While I do like it, I feel like I can't really keep the product on longer than, say, 8 or 10 hours before things start feeling murky and like it's going to cause some clogging issues. I feel with summer approaching this will only exacerbate this.Cerave has a great texture, but jeez over the years I've never learned my lesson: every time I go back to using it (both the regular and PM) it just causes a cluster of clogged pores within a month. Cetaphil is just as bad. I'd like to stay within a drugstore budget and something I'd not have to buy online, but if the product seems too good I have no qualms with online buying.thanks

[Acne] What the HELL is going on? Please help...

Beauty Tips For Body Care
This picture is currently where I'm at.The lighting isn't the best. It actually looks MUCH worse in person.Sorry, this is a long read.I’m 21 and have been suffering from acne since I was 14, but it has never been as bad as it is now. From age 14 to 19 my normal routine was using Clearasil acne wipes to wipe my face down 3-4 times a day and use some face wash only in the shower. It actually kept the acne down VERY well for the longest time. Then I started working in a (dirty) factory-type environment, which SEEMS to be when things started changing and my routine slowly stopped working. From that point on I’ve tried everything over the counter, except any proactive products. Side note… it is also around this time [ July 2014 ] that I quit SMOKING and started VAPING. I still vape daily.Prescription-wise I’ve used and still have Clindamycin ( but no longer use it), and I’m not sure if these are prescription but I got them from my sister about a week or two ago, they are topical creams:Finacea (azelaic acid) Gel, 15%Aczone (dapsone) gel, 5%.My recent changes in my routines: I started using the two topicals mentioned above, and also switched my daily face wash from DIAL for Acne, to Neutrogena Oil-Free face wash. I also bought a Neutrogena moisturizer since the topicals have been making my skin peel. I also started taking 30,000-50,000ui of Vitamin A daily because I’ve read that some people have had success doing this.my current routine:10am I get home from work and immediately shower, use the Neutrogena face wash, and put on the topical creams afterwards. At night, I wash my face using the same face wash and this time use the moisturizer. Sometimes I switch it up and use the moisturizer in the morning, or don’t use any topicals at all.Just a few days after changing my routine to what I mentioned above my acne started going away but in the past few days it’s been coming back VERY badly. My diet: I haven’t drank soda In years. The only fluids I take in are Water and Soy milk. ( I cut out dairy milk about a month ago ). I stopped taking my protein shake / mass gainer powder about three to four weeks ago. I try to stay away from junk food like candy or sweets but every few days or so I’ll have some poptarts or a chocolate bar from the vending machine at work.I’m going to make an appointment to see a dermatologist probably tomorrow but the process is long so I’m just posting this here to see if there’s ANY advice I could possibly get. ( sometimes I see some people commenting that identify the cause of the acne just by where it is? )I'm getting really desperate and feel like crying every night. ANY advice is appreciated, Thanks!.

[Skin Concerns] Cut out SLS; what's next?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello everyone,Following the tips and stories from others on the sub, I cut out SLS (Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate), which helped against my suborrheic dermatitis dramatically. However, I still have random breakouts which get very bad, but only for a short time. I noticed that shaving - and especially cutting my hair - clears my face by the very next morning. Is this just a coincidence? I use SLS-free soap on my face to help kill yeast, an anti-dermatitis cream, and a generic toner when I need it. I'm very active - both running and lifting - so I take a lot of supplements, as well, including: Vitamin A, D3 (w/ K12), Calcium (w/ Magnesium), Green Tea Extract, Fish Oil, Glutamine, and Arginine. Are there any abnormalities here? Any tips would be appreciated, as I've already tried so many things. SD is so very, very pesky..

[Skin Concerns] Subaceous Cyst Advice

Beauty Tips For Body Care
A few months ago I had a subaceous cyst surgically removed from my back. I remembered when it was a tiny bump, it felt like a zit but it had no head. That's how doctors explained it to me before the procedure, they're basically clogged pores that don't have an exit route for the matter inside of them. I just noticed another bump that is VERY similar to my cyst in its early stages. I really don't want another scar like the one I just got. Does ANYONE know how to prevent it from getting bigger? Or anyway to "release" it? Doctors don't seem to offer much advice, just a "it happens" attitude. Thanks!

[Skin Concerns] My fucking skin has been dry for years and nothing helps, and I can't get a derm appointment

Beauty Tips For Body Care
My skin is so fucking dehydrated and red, and at the suggestion of my doctor I've started eating more eggs (vitamin A), carrots, omega 3 and I'm drinking more water while cutting back on cigarettes. Granted, it's only been a week, but my skin almost looks and feels worse in its current state. It's grainy to the touch, dry as the Saharan desert and still very red. And here I thought diet was everything.I went to a doctor to get a derm appointment as suggested by this sub, but the doctor was all like "Derms are for serious skin conditions yada yada yada, you need vitamin A. Eat more eggs blah blah blah."'Seriously, my skin might've looked slightly better that day than it usually does, but it has been dry, itchy, red and fucking grainy like sandpaper to the touch for as long as I can remember.So... A derm isn't going to solve my problems as I'm not getting to see one. Here I am, six years in with shitty skin texture, dehydrated/slightly flaking/red skin that gets irritated by the slightest breeze. I'm sick of it. I just want my skin to have a smooth texture like every fucking person around me. Even my friends with serious acne have softer/smoother skin texture than me. Mine is just so dry and grainy.I've tried EVERYTHING suggested on this sub. AHAs, HA, twenty different moisturizers, vaseline, drinking more water, oils, honey, fish/cod liver oil etc, and while my skin has gotten slightly better over the years, it still looks like reddish, skin-textured sandpaper in daylight and other harsh lights.Seriously, I even stopped washing my face for a month and not even that made it look like normal fucking skin like the skin on my neck, hands and arms. One of these days, I'm going to start clawing at my skin because of how angry it makes me. Seriously, it's starting to piss me off and I'd easily cut my middle finger off to get smooth skin.

[Acne]PIH Group Therapy Session/Should I break up with tretinoin?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Long story short: Last January I had a bout of cystic acne, which I cleared up with tret + Paula's Choice BHA. My skin cleared up by end of March, but I was left with terrible (terrible) PIH. Tried to use vit C serum with ok results. Late summer, I move to France, and slowly stop with BHA as I think it's irritating my skin. Fall = pretty good skin, PIH has faded. Then, this January...cycle repeats itself. Tret is doing nothing, cystic acne is worse than before. I do everything (EVERYTHING) to try and clear it up...except buy more BHA. (PC in Europe is $$$)A month ago I finally caved and bought more BHA solution-all active pimples are gone within a week. But now I'm dealing with severe PIH. I've stopped the tret since it was doing NOTHING for my acne. Therefore, my question: Do I resume tretinoin, despite its terrible betrayal, to fade my PIH more quickly? Do I buy Paula's choice AHA despite its prohibitive cost? Do I do a daily or a peel for faster results? How are you clearing up your PIH? HOW MUCH DO YOU HATE THAT PIH IS A THING THAT EXISTS??

[Misc] Hey SCA, I recently interviewed a colour technician from MAC Cosmetics. While it's not skin care, she worked her way up from lab cleaner, so I thought it might interest those looking for career advice!

[Skin Concerns] Had to take out my piercing because of this bump.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've had this piercing in my ear for about three months now. About a month ago I noticed this red ball forming next to it so I washed it with saline every day thinking it would heal... Today I had to take the piercing out because the ball has gotten too big and won't heal.Picture: http://m.imgur.com/ItIbIMCI think whoever pierced it made mistake because the hole was actually at the bottom of the anti-tragus. I have the same piercing on the other side (I got them pierced at the same time) that's pierced on the lobe and is not infected.Anyways, how do I go about healing this? I took the piercing out so the hole could close. I can always get the correct piercing once my ear heals... But for now, should I drain this thing? Do I put some antibiotics on it? Or will it go away on its own?Any help would be appreciated.
