Beauty Tips For Body Care
Seriously, fuck acne. Fuck it so hard.No matter how hard I try, I can't beat it. Nothing works. No matter how much time and money I sink into my skin, I'm clearly just never going to have clear skin.I cut dairy completely. I cut all sugar and refined carbs completely. I exercise daily. I'm vegan. I'm on birth control. I wash my face twice a day with a low pH cleanser and moisturize. I wear sunscreen daily. I've been using tretinoin and clindamycin for months now. If anything, my acne has just gotten worse.I'm tired of the assumptions people make about me - that I must not wash my face enough, or that I eat junk food or something.I hung out with a few old friends the other day and it made me so mad - they had the most perfect skin I'd ever seen, and yet they kept scratching their faces and rubbing their phones against their face. We got pizza but I didn't eat any because dairy. The friend I spent the night with didn't even wash her makeup off that night.Seriously, why the hell is skin so unfair?

[Skin concern] Yet another Orange Peel texture skin question
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've browsed previous questions on this topic and there doesn't seem to be a consensus on how to fix it.My skin has had this orange peel texture for a few years now, but it's been bothering me lately, since it makes me look like a wrinkled, greasy mess with huge pores. Has anyone ever deal with this problem successfully? My current routine is: AM: Wash face with water, apply Cerave PM and Eucerin Dermopurifyer moisturizers. PM: Wash face with Eucerin dermopurifyer cleanser, apply PC BHA and 30 min later Cerave PM.

[Sun Care] Sunscreen recommendations for acne prone and dark skinned girl.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been scouring all the holy grail sunscreen recommendations but I'm still really lost on whether I should be using physical, chemical, or combo sunscreens and what products I should try that don't have zinc oxide and titanium dioxide since apparently that is what leaves a white cast. I have mild to moderate acne that I've been working really hard to keep under control so I don't want to ruin it with a sunscreen but I know I need to use one. My skin color is very similar to Priyanka Chopra's skin color. Any help would be super appreciated!

[Sun Care] Any particular sunscreens that are "easy off"?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Tried searching for this on Google or Reddit, but understandably not many people look for sunscreen that's marketed as very non-waterproof.My acne is finally starting to get under control, and I'd like to start using sunscreen. However, I want to introduce as little changes to my routine as possible, so while I work in the fire department and sweat and come into contact with water a lot (which would mean I need a waterproof sunscreen, which I have), I'd like to use a sunscreen that's non-waterproof, so I can easily remove it with my cleanser.I'll take the hassle of having to reapply it than having to use a remover.

[Product Question] OTC Retinol as maintenance after 9 months on Retin-A Micro?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi!Back in the summer of last year, I had some horrible, horrible acne and I started Retin-A Micro 0.1% and Minocycline. After 3-4 months of intense purging, the combo basically destroyed my acne and I stopped the antibiotics. Since then I have kept up with using the tretinoin because I am so scared of the acne coming back if I stop;it has been 9 months since I started using it.Initially I wanted to get off the retinoid ASAP because of how strong it was and all the peeling/irritation that came with it. Combined with my fear of the acne relapsing, I began trying to incorporate a BHA into my routine and I was hoping eventually I'd replace the retinoid with a AHA/BHA combo that would keep my acne away. However, I found that after incorporating a BHA slowly (was still using the Retin-AM), it caused more irritation, PIH, and bumpy skin, so I'm scraping that idea.As well, I have become kind of addicted to the results that tretinoin has produced especially back at the 6 month mark, my skin was so smooth and bright that I kept getting compliments on it (I am a guy!). Although the BHA has worsened my skin since then, I am looking to return to that stage.SO I am thinking of replacing the Retin-AM with a OTC Retinol such as the Ordinary's Retinol 1% or their Advanced 2% Retinoid. I was wondering if OTC retinol, which is a lot weaker than the tretinoin, would work as a maintenance to replace my current prescription retinoid and keep my acne away while brightening and smoothing my skin again? Would it also be less irritating than what I am currently using? And would I be going through another dreaded purging phase if I start the retinol right after my prescription runs out?OTC Retinol from the Ordinary brand would be helluva a lot cheaper and easier to get than AHA/BHA or prescription Retin-AM.I hope what I am asking makes sense! Thank you so much for your time!tl;dr Wanted to get off prescription Retin-A Micro ASAP because of irritation and wanting to keep my routine minimal, but fell in love with the acne-clearing and brightening/smoothing effects of retinoids, wondering if replacing it with OTC retinol would have similar effects but with less irritation? Also would I purge again after switching products?Routine (kind of basic and minimal because I am a guy and don't wear makeup):AMCerave in the TubSkin Aqua Moisturizing SunscreenPMCerave Foaming Facial CleanserRetin-A Micro (used to be every day, now every third day) or PC BHA 2% Liquid (I've taken this out, but I used to use it the day before using my Retin-AM, never the same day)Cerave in the Tub

[skin concerns] What works for you guys to help with Keratosis Pilaris?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Ahh, KP. Whenever mine goes away it always comes back. I have it on the outside of my arms like most do. I usually will exfoliate in the shower with a body brush and then apply Cetaphil afterwards. That helps some but the bumps get a bit better and then a bit worse and so on. They have never completely disappeared, I always have a few.I have heard that you should use AHA, BHA, vitamin E oil, and supplement your diet with vitamin K. I have never tried any of these methods, but I want to look into them. So, to all my fellow KP sufferers, what works to remedy yours?

[acne] how can I heal up all this redness on my nose from acne?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So my skins prone to acne, not like terribly bad acne but enough to annoy me and not feel secure about my skin.On most of my face I don't mind it but my nose is terrible all the time, on one nostril there is a red (looks like a pimple with no head) mark from a pimple that never fully healed, and it's been like that for over a year, and just in general my nose looks red and horrible... there are some images below.http://imgur.com/molCupA http://imgur.com/2444FhM http://imgur.com/FDxtQdeIf anyone has advice on how to clear this skin up I would be great full for any ideas. It's not that I get acne on my nose a lot it's just from where I have had it bad in the past it's made it look always irritated.A dermatologist is the best option I know but I can't afford it just as of yet so anything in the meantime that might help would be awesome.

[Product Question] Questions about Indian Healing Clay
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Okay so I just used the Indian Healing Clay mask. I mixed it with just water and put 1/8ish of an inch of the clumpy mixture onto my face and let it dry for 30 min. It hurt a bit towards the end and my face is red like the inside of a tomato now. My questions...Did it hurt so much because I only used water and no apple cider vinegar? When should I moisturize after taking it off? When the redness is gone?Where do you buy organic apple cider vinegar with "mother"? Is it at Wal-mart or HEB?If I get the mixture not so clumpy, does this mask have the ability to lift dirt and stuff out of closed white heads and open black heads?Does this mask count as an "exfoliator"?Thanks everyone!

[Routine help] Acne scars and wrinkles. Can I use both AHA and retinoid? Please help me create a skincare routine!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi guys! I'm fairly new here, but I've been reading this sub a lot lately because I'm trying to improve my skincare routine.First, a little background and my goals: From about 13 to 30, I had moderate acne. After trying just about every home remedy, diet, OTC and prescription drug, and cleansing method I could find, I finally gave up and accepted my dermatologist's offer for an Accutane prescription (and to this day, I still think that it's best to use as a last resort, because Accutane can have serious and long-lasting side effects for some people). It cleared my skin very effectively. Even though it's been years since I took it, my skin no longer breaks out the way it used to.The problem is, my skin's texture is a little bumpy (scars, I suppose?) and my pores are quite noticeable. Also, because I'm now in my mid-30s, I am developing some fine lines and wrinkles. I want to do as much as I can to minimize and prevent signs of aging and also make my skin's texture smoother. For almost a year now, I've been using coconut oil to remove my makeup (no, it doesn't break me out), washing my face with Dr. Bronner's liquid soap, and applying Vitamin C serum in the morning (very inconsistently) and Paula's Choice 8% AHA morning and night (consistently). I was using Neutrogena Baby sunscreen (SPF 55?), but I'm now using La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL 50+ tinted fluid (the European formulation).Recently, I bought Hada Labo "lotion moist" (clear liquid) and their other lotion (white).I just bought a mini-fridge/cooler for the bedroom so I could move my Vitamin C from my refrigerator to my bedside. (I'm not a morning person, so I found it difficult to motivate myself to get out of bed to apply Vitamin C 20 minutes before applying my AHA.)For now, this is what I'm doing:AMVitamin C serum (wait 20 minutes)Paula's Choice 8% AHA (wait 20 minutes)Hada Labo lotion moistHada Labo lotionLa Roche-Posay sunscreenmakeup (some days)PM - remove makeup with coconut oil (or a wipe if I'm feeling especially lazy) - wash face with Dr. Bronner's liquid soap - Paula's Choice 8% AHA (wait 20 minutes) - Hada Labo lotion moist - Hada Labo lotionI know that using the AHA twice a day will seem excessive to some, but my skin tolerates it very well. Still, it doesn't seem to be doing much--if anything--to minimize the acne scars, and I will run out of my PC AHA very soon, so I decided to try a new chemical exfoliant.First, I ordered Sunday Riley Good Genes (yes, I know that popular opinion here is that it's overpriced and overrated). Then, while waiting for it to arrive, I delved deeper into this sub and discovered MUAC and the Ordinary. I have to admit, I may have gone a little overboard in my excitement:From MUAC I ordered the Mandelic Acid 25% peel (sample size) and their prep toner. I may eventually work up to 40%, depending on how this goes. From the Ordinary, I ordered the items they recommended for an anti-aging regimen: the Rose Hip oil, Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, "Buffet", and Advanced Retinoid 2%....Have I gone mad? Is this way too much?I know that I need to stop using my AHA for at least 24 hours before I do the Mandelic Acid peel (which I'll only do once a week, as recommended).I've looked into using AHA/BHAs and retinols together and the info I've found is conflicting. I thought Paula's Choice made the best argument (in favor of using them together), but TBH, I sometimes question PC's research because they profit from the sales of skincare products. Can I use both Good Genes and the Ordinary's Retinoid 2% on the same day? Should I use them on alternating days? How can I use the products I've purchased to make an effective routine and avoid irritating my skin?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm gonna change my pillow case tonight, as I haven't in a while and I've noticed more spots on my face. This pillow case trick seems really practical and useful, like it should be common knowledge (Because you are resting your face on it 8 hours a day, oil builds up, hence you ought to change it frequently).Any other information that is simple like this, that you think should be more common knowledge that you'd like to share? [Product Question] Does pilling affect product absorption?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Are products less effective if they pill when combined with other products? Or is it just a cosmetic issue? I just don't want any of my products to go to waste if I have to wash them off and start my routine all over again. If pilling doesn't reduce the products' effectiveness, then I wouldn't mind some pilling on days that I don't go out.I have combination skin. In the AM I use The Ordinary's Niacinamide + Zinc underneath Simple's Rich Moisturizer combined with COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence and it starts pilling right away, even though I didn't notice any silicone in any of the products.

[Product Question] Products that cool down skin without drying it out?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi!With temperatures on the rise, I increasingly find my skin feeling hot and blushing. Ingredients like alcohol, camphor etc. would probably help to cool my skin down, but it so happens that my skin is very dry and rosacea-prone, so these products are out of question.Do any of you know products that refresh and cool down hot, red skin without any drying, irritating ingredients? Thanks a million in advance!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've recently discovered the magic of hydrocolloid bandages and I was wondering how often I can use them? I only use them at night, so could I use them a few nights in a row or is that too often? Also, what are you supposed to do after you remove them? Besides cleansing the area, are you supposed to do anything else? Thanks!

I've recently discovered the magic of hydrocolloid bandages and I was wondering how often I can use them? I only use them at night, so could I use them a few nights in a row or is that too often? Also, what are you supposed to do after you remove them? Besides cleansing the area, are you supposed to do anything else? Thanks!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi all! I am a skincare lover, but currently stuck trying to work out a realistic regime for backpacking for a year through asia! I will be living out of hostels, tents and one backpack! my current routine has about 11 stages so I really need to get it much smaller (and cheaper)! if any one has done this kind of travelling before whilst keeping up good skin care I would really appreciate some advice!atm what I am thinking my travelling routine will consist of is: 2 stage cleanse (oil&balm), glycolic toner, hyaluronic acid, eyecream, oil, moisturizer, SPFthanks so much :)

[skin concerns] please help with my horrible skin condition
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey all. Sorry for the long post but please advice! I've wrote a few weeks ago for my red acne marks, redness & chemical peel burn; here's a picture of how it looks like: https://imgur.com/Nwk7Fvt. The feedback was fixing my moisture barrier first. I've tried starting with a moisterizer but quitted with it after a week because it was irritating. I found out it was irritating because it contained alcohol. I was using acne.org moisterizer. After that I didn't use a moisterizer anymore because I had an appointment planned at the dermatologist today. I thought lets just wait for the appointment and the dermatologist will prescribe me a perfect routine for my horrible skin. So I just got there, told her I got red marks & redness, chemical peel burn. She said she'd prescribe me Topical Antibiotic, I was like huh, I've did some research and isn't Retin-A good for this? She said oh yes thats a good combination, you use both. I said ok. But everything went so fast, she was in such a hurry, I couldn't even ask questions normally but I asked what does the Topical Antibiotic do, she said it calms the redness and I heard her mention Differin real quick. So I thought the Topical Antibiotic was Differin and she would prescribe Retin-A with it as well as the combination. I also asked what's a good moisterizer I can use, she said La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo and then I asked what's a good sunscreen, she said it's not really that important and didn't gave me advice on it. She stood up opened the door but I wasn't even done asking questions etc, but that was probably a sign for me to leave, literally everything went so fast. I just went to the pharmacy to pick up my prescription and what they gave me was Erytromycine and Benzoyl Peroxide 10%. I was like huh, what's this? I remember Erytromycine from like 8 years ago when my acne first started, my home-doctor gave me that for my acne and it didn't really work. And yes Benzoyl Peroxide I remember that too, also used it for my acne. I told her this must be wrong because she prescribed me Retin-A and a Topical Antibiotic for the redness. The pharmacist was pretty confused, double checking everything and at one point she mentioned Differin, and yes I remember the dermatologist also talked about Differin. So I thought I'd get Differin and Retin-A, but it turns out she prescribed Erytromycine and Differin gel instead of Retin-A. Pretty weird she prescribes Differin because we were talking about Retin-A and a Topical Antibiotic. I knew Erytromycine is a Topical Antibiotic but I never would've thought she'd prescribe me that, she didn't mention Erytromycine... I thought there were more Topical Antibiotics and she'd prescribe me 1 for the redness. And when I just got at the dermatologist she only wanted to prescribe me Erytromycine. How the hell would that help me with my problem? The only reason she added Differin Gel was because I was talking about Retin-A.... Please advice, I really have no idea what I should do at this point. Will Erytromycine and Differin Gel really help my horrible skin condition? UPDATE: I just called with the dermatologist assistent just to make sure I got the right prescriptions. So Erytromycine and Differin Gel is right. She did Differin Gel Instead of Retin-A but the dermatologist said it's the same. What do y'all think? Will this really help me?

[Skin Concerns] Every cleanser makes me feel thight
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So the problem is even the most gentle cleanser makes my skin feel tight. I currently use avene's extremely gentle cleanser lotion, which i am taking off with a microfiber washcloth. The problem might be that i am switching around with my skin care products to frequently. I never had a consistent routine

[Routine help] cleansing after exercise?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey ScA! Long time lurker, first time poster...Twice a week I go to a lunchtime exercise class at work, and I'm totally clueless on what I should do with my face afterwards. Do I cleanse, and then cleanse again in the evening before bed? Moisturise? Ignore it? I'm currently just splashing with water and patting dry before going back to my desk, and wondering if this is doing more harm than good...Daily routine, if it helps... concerns are PIH and some infrequent (but nasty) spots.Morning - wash with waterApply The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% (as of this week, so nothing to report progress-wise yet!)Moisturise with Body Shop Skin Defence Multi Protection Essence (SPF 50 PA ++++) (I'm in the UK)Evening: Remove makeup with Garnier micellar water pink capWash face with Simple Kind to Skin refreshing facial wash gel(Every other night) nip and fab glycolic daily cleansing pads(Nights not using nip and fab) The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%Moisturise with Simple kind to skin moisturiserAny tips would be much appreciated! [Review] Spearmint Tea, my new favorite thing
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Spearmint tea is seriously amazing. Especially for my hormonal acne.I was skeptical AF when I read that spearmint can help acne, but I gave it a try because I like mint tea and figured why not?I tend to get super painful cystic acne from my period (and any chronic stress). So I tried spearmint tea and holy shit you guys.I haven't had a major breakout EVEN ONCE since I started back in November. I gave it several months to make sure it was really the tea and by now I'm thoroughly convinced it's making a huge difference.Of course, spearmint tea won't work for everyone. But it was a HUGE help for me. And it's natural, tasty, and something you can buy at the store.Just one PSA: Drinking too much (more than 1-2 cups a week) can delay your menstrual cycle (which can actually come in handy sometimes!) I had a pregnancy scare one month because I had too much.

[Personal] ScA has completely changed how I take care of my skin within a couple of months
Beauty Tips For Body Care
This is my first reddit post and I hope I get it right! I had to come here to say that you guys and gals are wonderful! I had apricot scrubs, alcohol, and some very drying face wash in my stash. I have used those things for years. I would say the whole, my face isn't clean unless it feels really tight, thing. I have used baking soda (I know) AND lemon juice (again, I know). I was starting to look old and tired and have breakouts. The only thing I was doing right was using sunscreen every morning. I was lurking on reddit one day and saw this sub and it just so happened that I had a huge chin zit I couldn't quit picking. Now, everyday when I open this computer I am reading this sub! What I have changed to: Ponds Cold Cream - Makeup removal Eucerin Redness Relief Soothing Cleanser -AM and PM (imediate results and the moisture department)Vitamin C from Foxbrim Serum- Am and PM ( saw a little more even tone within a week)Cereve AM Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 ( moisturizes better than the old school Olay spf I was using)Olay Regenerist micro-sculpting cream - AM ( this stuff just feels like heaven and I feel like I'm being moisturized all day)Cereve Skin Renewing Night Cream - PM (really thick and takes a while to really soak in...no solid opinion on it so far)Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Moisturizer - PM ( just wanted to sort of prep for a stronger retinol but actualy have seen some results within a month and a half)My skin is no longer starving for moisture, my sun spots aren't as noticeable, and I have not worn foundation in two weeks. I do not look as tired either!I patch tested most of the new things but some I have used before if I forgot something while visiting the parents. ( Mom to the rescue with the good stuff!)I decided to order some PC stuff based on the wonderful things I have read from you guys. BOOM! There is 25% off for two days only on the retinol I ordered. After that I just had to come here and say thank you. Really, seriously, thank you.

[Review] I have no more acne because of this sub and CeraVe Lotion!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
At first I didn't really think it was necessary to post anything about my acne experience, but I really wanted to thank everyone on this sub for everything. I've been dealing with moderate acne and occasionally cystic acne for about 10 years, and nothing I tried would cure it. I used all kinds of products, even wasted a lot of money on Proactiv, but nothing really worked. I never saw a dermatologist because it was never bad enough for my parents to pay for all the appointments and medication. Eventually I wound up here, and read everything in the Resources section. I didn't want to end up with an insanely long routine, so I started with only the CeraVe AM/PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion Pack. So then my morning routine was: Yes to Carrots daily cream facial cleanser, then CeraVe AM Lotion, L'Oreal true match blendable makeup, and PM: shower, Queen Helene Facial Scrub Pomegranate and Raspberry, then CeraVe PM Moisturizing Lotion. After only a few days, there was a noticeable difference. No breakouts, my old blemishes healed slowly, and few new ones popped up. It's been a couple of months now, and I feel better about my face than ever before. My routine now: AM-Wash face with water, dry off, CeraVe AM lotion, PM-shower, occasionally face wash, sometimes CeraVe PM lotion. Some days I even forget to wear the lotion, and I still don't break out. I just can't get over how awesome it feels to not wear makeup now! And it's all thanks to all of you! I might never have found the right lotion if I hadn't come here for help. Thank you so much!!

[Product Question] Just bought Avene Extremely Gentle Cleanser Lotion, do I rinse it off?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
This may be a very dumb question but I don't really understand- I just bought Avène Extremely Gentle Cleanser Lotion which says it's "No-Rinse"...I must need to rinse my face with water at some point through right? Before the cleanser?I've been using micellar water to take off my eye makeup, quick splash of water, and Avène cleanser all over my face with a cotton pad followed by Cerave PM moisturizer at night and Cervave AM in the morning.Just started browsing this sub intensely about a week ago and have been a sponge for the info on here. I really had no routine except soap and water and a moisturizer that I just discovered wasn't right for me (oh stinging and burning is bad?). I live in a very cold environment and have dry & usually sensitive skinAppreciate any help, I tried to find the answer by searching how to use cleansers/Avène specifically but I could find the info

[Product Question] Why do shaving creams have such high pH values? Isn't it just as bad as an old-fashioned soap?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Almost all shaving creams have a pH value >8. A higher pH value may weaken the hair, thereby making the shave easier. But looking at the ingredients and the pH value, a shaving cream is almost like an old fashioned soap. So it may weaken the hair (theoretically), but doesn't it disturb your whole skin fatty acid layer and skin microflora as well? Why are there no companies making very mild pH skin balanced shaving foams, I've never found one that has a pH of about 4-5?So how bad is this high pH value (it feels very stripping to me), does a good shaving cream really have to be this alkaline for it to work? Are most shaving creams not just very stripping soaps? What would be the best most mild alternative to a high pH shaving foam? Is an alternative shaving cream going to provide better results? To mention a few:Proraso Shaving Soap Sensitive Skin - pH9.5Paula's Choice 4MEN - pH8.9-9.9Balea Med Ultra Sensitive Shave Gel - pH8.7

[Acne] Has anyone else developed acne after moving to a new city?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone. I've noticed that after I moved to a new city (1000+ miles away), my skin changed drastically. I've developed acne, my pores are generally larger, and my face is oilier. If anyone else has dealt with this, how did you modify your skincare routine? I've tried different face washes, toners, etc., but nothing seems to be effective. Currently using Cetaphil with morning CeraVe moisturizer. Have previously used CeraVe foaming cleanser.

[Skin Concerns] does this vitamin c scar cream work? Should I use it on my scar?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BCPRANG It contains 17% vitamin c and silicone. I have a scar which is now 3 and a half months old, for which time I have been using moisturising lotion only, and the scar is still red. It is a scar from a carpet burn on my forehead, it is smooth and flat but still red. Would this be helpful for me? I will use sunscreen when I go outside (I didn't use any for the first 3 months which might have set me back, though the uv levels were low in this time).

[Acne] Moisturizer for my oily skin that breaks out super easily
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey guys, I've been reading and using advice from this subreddit for 3 years now and thanks a bunch my skin looks amazing but feels a lil dry! I still have yet to find the right moisturizer for me, Ive tried several that are meant for my "skin type" and they've all either broken me out, caused close comedones, made my skin feel greasy etc. Would like some recommendations from people with similar skin to mine Also moisturizers that did NOT work for me: Clinique dramatically different, Cerave, Clean & Clear dual action, la roche posey mat and mizon snail creme

[Acne] My Accutane Journey/Log
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I thought I would start an accutane log to share with people my ongoing experience, in hopes that one day my story will inspire other people in a similar situation as me. So brief summary about my horrendous ongoing battle with severe onset, cystic acne.I started to develop severe acne when I was around the age of 18/19 - It has basically destroyed every part of my life for the past 5 years. I have tried diets, skin care regimes, cleanses - wasting a harrowing amount of money on different ''cures''. All to no avail. I know there is a underlying problem but Im just so tired and depressed with it all that I don't even have any fight in me to persevere for an answer. This is where accutane comes into the equation. I have exhausted pretty much every other possible solution other than this powerful drug. Getting prescribed it was possibly the best feeling iv'e had in a few years, just to have that hope in your mind that maybe one day you will finally have decent skin.So quick skin update - there isn't a patch on my face that isn't covered in horrible, cystic, inflamed, red acne - that hurts to the touch, and hurts my face when I move it. It's absolute torture. So iv'e been on accutane for 2 weeks now exactly and here's my log -Week 1 - No major side effects and no change in skin whatsoever. Skin isn't dry, lips are absolutely fine, no joint pain etc. Guess it takes a long while for the body to adapt.Week 2 - Well. What an absolute shit storm of a week. Now, Im not sure if i'm at my initial breakout stage already, however my face has never been this bad. I got sent home from work early today because I just couldn't cope. My hair is so long and scraggly due to me having so much acne on my forehead that I need my hair to cover it up. I'm really hoping this is an accutane flare up because if it's not, then Im well and truly screwed. Other than that, no real other side effects of note. Skin has gotten far worse, no extreme dryness, some around my nose. No dry lips either as of yet which is strange. Will keep you all posted. It's so tough.

[Product Question] Refrigerating Products?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Summer has started here and I was thinking of keeping some of my products (gels and moisturizers) in the fridge. Will the cold affect the product or is it alright?

[Personal] Has anyone tried the "caveman regimen"?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Before I discovered this subreddit, I had nearly flawless skin. Now I have PIH from cystic acne all over my face and I realized that I need to stop using actives (I tried different brands and they all gave me the same results). Now I'm doing the caveman regimen which means you do not wash your face whatsoever. Not even putting products on your face. So far, I'm noticing my scars - albeit still noticeable - are fading on my face and even better, I STOPPED GETTING NEW WHITEHEADS!!I really took my skin for granted. Now I've learned my lesson. Anyone in the same boat?

[acne] Has anyone actually made serious progress in treating indented acne scars?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I am currently on Accutane so I am not actually considering scar treatments yet. But I have some moderately deep indented scaring. All scar progress pictures I have seen show very minimal progress. To me, doing treatments isn't worth the time, cost, and effort if results are so little. So I want to ask you guys, have you personally or anyone you know actually succeeded in treating scars to the point where they are not ready noticeable? If so, any information or pictures would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

[Research] Over-hydration can cause acne; a PSA for those moving to the tropics
Beauty Tips For Body Care
If you're too lazy to read it all, tl;dr my skin got spotty after moving to tropical climate, did research, research indicates that increased humidity + over-hydration does cause acne, it's alright to not moisturise if you're in a humid climate, summarised research on Reddit. My BackgroundWhen I lived in Western Australia (dry climate, temp range 8ºC-30ºC/45ºF-86ºF) I had healthy, normal skin and got 1-2 pimples only when I was stressed. Three months in after moving to South-East Asia (humid climate, ~35ºC/95ºF year-round) I got acne like I never did before. The ResearchSo I went to do some research and discovered that over-hydration/hypohydration/overmoisturisation is a very real phenomenon that can cause acne, which is sometimes referred to as Acne Tropicalis or Tropical Acne [4, 6]. This is a summary of my readings and I'll break it down in three parts:What causes acne in the first place? How does overhydration relate to these causes of acne? What can be done to prevent acne caused by overhydration?1) Processes involved in development of acneThese are the pathological processes involved in the development of acne (i.e. the processes that cause acne to occur) [5]:Increased sebum production;Hyperproliferation and differentiation of follicular keratinocytes (English: your normally live skin cells turn dead hell quick and stay on the surface);Microbial colonization by Propionbacterium Acnes (English: bad bacteria that cause acne start breeding on your skin); andInflammation (English: increased blood flow - your body's natural reaction to wounds and infections - go to your acne and causes it to swell up and turn red).2) Relationship between overhydration and these processesBullet point summary of key points from the studies:Sebum excretion increased significantly after hyperhydration + the ducts that produce sebum can plug up [3, 7]. This is bad news for acne-prone skin as it can accelerate the development of acne [7].Similar point to above: increased humidity → increased sebum production → hyperhydration of skin → increased sebum duct plug-ups → deterioration of acne [5, 7].Increased sweating can also lead to the duct plug-ups [7].A rise of 1ºC increases sebum excretion rate by 10% [2]; excessive heat over-stimulates the sebaceous glands, leading to a deterioration of acne [4, 6].Sunlight can also cause an increase in dead skin cells (see point 1.2) leading to the plugging up of the sebaceous ducts, which can be intensified by humidity. The heat of the environment would still stimulate the excess production of sebum even when the ducts are plugged up [4, 6].Nodules, cysts, and scars were much more uniformly present and were more severe than would have been expected in a similar random group of cases of Acne Vulgaris [6].Rapid improvement in acne usually occurred when the patients reached a cool, dry climate [6].Another study was conducted on swimmers: it's observed that swimmers experience an increase in oiliness - usually referred to as "swimmer's shine" - which represents a rebound phenomenon (i.e. the skin is overcompensating for dryness by producing more sebum). [1]3) What do? ಠ_ಠHarsh soaps, cleansers, or astringents that further dissolve sebum should be avoided in favor of milder nondetergent lotion cleansers. [3]Milder antibiotic acne creams (benzoyl peroxide, clindamycin, erythromycin, lymecycline, etc.) or lotions (salicylic acid, sulfur, etc.) may be tried initially. If response is inadequate, low concentration retinoids (adapalene or tretinoin) may be gradually introduced into the treatment regimen. [3]Don't be afraid to not moisturise if you find your face to be an oil slick when you're living in a humid climate, even when you're accustomed to moisturising [conclusion I pulled from 2, 3, 5, 7]. You need to help your skin reduce sebum blockage.References[1] Basler, R. S., Basler, G. C., Palmer, A. H., & Garcia, M. A. (2000). Special skin symptoms seen in swimmers. [Routine Help] Compression shorts leading to unsightly and painful ingrown hairs!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone!First time poster here and, frankly, new to skincare in general. I'm a very avid athlete (5 days/week at the gym, 1 day/week playing tennis). While I work out, I wear spandex shorts underneath of my exercise shorts.Because of the compression of the shorts as well as the inevitable chafing, I've been getting some painful ingrown hairs, pimples, or some kind of generally infected pore (I told you, I'm new to the game and I don't know what they are!) on the inside of my thighs a few inches above my knees. What I've been doing is exfoliating my legs in the shower with a rough exfoliating cloth as well as a cheaper, generic version of St. Ive's apricot scrub. Then, I apply a daily cleanser from Cetaphil. However, I haven't had much success!Any help would be welcome. Feel free to critique my routine, suggest products, or anything else! However, know that I'm reluctant to cut back on my exercising.Thank you all!

[Personal] Accutane couldn't solve my problem... honestly don't know what to do... dehydrated chronically high sebum production?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi, I'm a 21 year old asian male, and right now, I honestly feel like I am at my wit's end.For easier formatting, I'll basically give you guys a timeline of my skincare up until now.2011: When I was 15 and previously lived as a happy little kid with no skincare products whatsoever. This is the year where I saw a couple of pimples pop up my forehead and the creases on the side of my noses. My skin was still matte and normal.2012: at this point, my pimples have gotten numerous to the extent where I decide doing my own 'research', which is just me going to get a TON of korean skincare products, starting from a cleanser that made my skin squeaky, followed up with a toner, emulsion, moisturizer, cream AND nightcream. (I have no idea why I went so all-out, probably because I was really scared I'd be a pizza face.) I was under the impression that the squeakier my skin was, the cleaner it was. Of course, it only made things worse.late-2012: My pimples did not get any better (probably also because it was hormonal, and much more stubborn?) and my skin type slowly started to change, as I felt my skin feel REALLY tight after cleansing. Even with all the moisturizing and creams, my pimples got more and more numerous, and my T-zone started becoming really oilly. I tried (stupidly) SO many home remedies, including baking soda (cringe), steaming (cringe) and even rubbing lemon on my face (even more cringe). I was incredibly misinformed, and that year, my skin went through a LOT of torture from myself. By the end of this year, my skin was tight and oily on the T zone, and flakey on the other regions. Couple of pimples on the T zone area, nothing anywhere else.2013: At this point, my T zone was definitely looking like an oil slick. I had to buy blotting paper and go to the toilet every period at school to blot it. I realized that nothing I did was making anything better. My self confidence dropped, productivity dropped (it's really hard to study or do ANYTHING when your face feels slimy and itchy from all the dust and small things that get caught on your sticky skin), but I was still determined to find a solution.Late-2013: I finally found out that squeaky was making my skin even oilier, and decided to switch to a much gentler cleanser (Cetaphil gentle cleanser), cut out all the shit that I was putting on (toner, emulsion, moisturizer, cream) and go simple with my routine. I was still using moisturizers designed for oily skin though: they were all designed to strip oils off my skin, because I was still under the impression that my skin was just oily. From Nivea, Cetaphil, Dove, QV, Dermaveen, Neutrogena, Aveeno and home made moisturizers my mum's friends gave us, I've tried a LOT of moisturizers that really didn't do much for me at that time. Switching to a gentler cleanser still left me feeling tight after cleansing, possibly because my skin was still damaged(?) from the previous year's torture. At one point of the year, I got so desperate that I tried the caveman method, which basically is when you try to only wash your face with water and not put any moisturizer on, to 'restore' the skin's original self-sustaining function. Of course, it did not work out for me. By the end of this year my T zone was EXTREMELY tight and oily, while my other regions of the face was normal. I was still getting a few pimples on my t-zone, and just itchy bumps on my non-T zone areasEarly 2014: I finally went to the General Practitioner (family doctor) to talk to about my skin concerns. Being a guy, living in a world where my peers would ridicule me for going to see a doctor for skin stuff made me really secretive and reluctant to find necessary help, but I finally went. My GP just prescribed me with antibiotics, and recommended me the cetaphil oily skin moisturizer (which in hindsight, was probably just a go-to procedure every time a pimply teen comes through the doors). Firstly, the cetaphil moisturizer was HORRIBLE; upon application, it felt and looked like a thin sheet of oil on my skin, and still made my skin feel tight and even MORE oily. Secondly, the antibiotic didn't do anything. So after 2-3 months, I went back, and he referred me to a dermatologist.Late 2014: The dermatologist prescribed me with Differin. He told me to apply it every other day, thin film, and said I could continue to use my Cetaphil gentle cleanser and a Dermaveen moisturizer. The Differin made my skin EXTREMELY dry and painful to put anything on it, but I persevered for a month. Only thing that happened after a month, was that my non-t zones, which were previously normal, had begun to become slightly oily as well. I went back to my derm, and he said I could try tretinoin, as it was very similar to Accutane, except topical. I didn't know what Accutane was but I just said why not, and tried tretinoin for 3 months. Results? exactly the same thing with Differin. After these 3 months, my skin was in a shit state; although I had only 6-7 pimples active at a time, I still had itchy bumps on my cheeks, and even worse, now my ENTIRE face felt tight and oily. No matter how many layers of the same moisturizer I tried to put on, it wouldn't get any better.2015: I finally discovered SCA on reddit. I read about dehydrated skin. I ditched my cleanser, and just decided to go with lukewarm water. The post-cleanse tightness slightly improved, so I've stuck with the water only washing. I purchased a Dermaveen moisturising lotion, which is the only moisturizer so far that a) doesn't make me feel as tight as all other moisturizers I've tried while at the same time b) feeling the least 'filmy' or 'greasy'. Of course, it wasn't perfect, but that's all I had back then. By this time, I was really feeling fed up with the oily skin and acne, so I went to the same derm, who prescribed me accutane. My first course lasted about 8 months, at 70mg per day. During the course, my lips chapped and a couple of nosebleeds, but all my acne went away! however, there was minimal improvement to my oily skin, which quickly reversed to pre-accutane level of oiliness 3-4 months after.2016: Still persisting with the water + Dermaveen combo, my skin was still feeling a bit tight a few hours after moisturization, and also my entire face was now getting oily a few hours after. While the pimples and acne went away, I was still dealing with the embarrassing and shitty situation with an oily face. That year, I did a TON of research on everything about the skin, and why my accutane course did not work. I learned that some people require a second or third course of accutane, and as a side bonus, that my skin was dehydrated. I went back to my derm, and approximately 10 months after my first course, my second course began. The second course was meant to be a small dose, longer term one, as my derm told me that he read a study on how small, longer courses are just as effective.Late 2016: After 1 month on the small dose, long-term course, The oil production was pretty much close to normal! At this point, my skin was BEAUTIFUL. My girlfriend was telling me that she wanted my skin, and everyone was complimenting me on my skin. I felt AMAZING. I met a lot of people, became more outgoing, did well at uni and the quality of my life just generally got a lot better, because for once, I didn't have to focus on my oily face in 5-6 years of battling this problem! However this is where the disaster struck. I began noticing that my hairline was quite rapidly receding, and my overall hair density was rapidly decreasing. This was a shock to me, because most korean teenagers, or perhaps ALL of them, have a full head of hair with NO signs of receding hairline. I began researching and found numerous accounts of hair thinning and hairloss on accutane. I was devastated. This was the only real 'solution' to my skin problems I've encountered so far, and it was creating another big problem. I hated the situation I was in. Almost as if I had to choose between hair or skin. As pathetic as it may sound, I legitimately had no new ideas as to how to tackle my dehydrated skin without accutane. I began to look up my family history, to see if anyone had any histories of any conditions. My mum still has quite an oily skin, as well as a thin density of hair. Looking at that, I really began to lose hope, because a good chance is that I just have chronically high sebum production due to genetics, and probably hairloss too. Upon realizing this, I started hating myself, blaming my parents for giving me shitty genes, becoming less outgoing, spending most of the day home.2017, current: so as of now, that's pretty much the situation I am in. Start of this year, I went to the derm and was prescribed (and have been taking) finasteride + minodoxil pills for 3 months with no real improvements, just to prevent balding IN CASE it wasn't caused by accutane. But since I have high suspicions that my hairloss is caused by accutane, I'm going to stop accutane in a couple of weeks. But I'm really scared. I do not want to go back to an oil slick again. I don't know what I'm doing wrong with my routine (I'm not stripping my skin of ANY oils, just water and moisturizer), and I know that I've pretty much tried everything there is. Last update, my skin is currently dehydrated: a couple of hours after I moisturize, I'll feel my skin become tight when I sort of stretch my face a little bit, and that's when I'll start becoming oily.Interestingly, I have read recently about OCM, and heard that many people saw a reduction in oil production from it. I guess this is the only real thing I've left to try.I know, as much as I've tried to structure and format this post, I've rambled on a bit and my delivery isn't that great, but honestly I just feel like giving up. It would be really nice if I could find someone knowledgeable enough to personally recommend me an affordable moisturizer and basically point out if there's anything I'm missing to tackle my (soon-to-be) shitty skin once I stop accutane. Thanks for reading anyways, I really appreciate reading so far.TL;DR: Please read the dot point yearly summaries, but basically, started off with normal skin, tortured, tried everything (i think) and now skin is dehydrated and oily all over. Accutane worked, but it's causing hairloss so probably quitting, in which case I'm really lost. Would love any help ESP some info on OCM.

[Routine Help] Inexpensive skincare brands/products for a broke student in Australia suffering from rosacea and acne!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
The past couple of months I've gotten serious about my skincare and build myself a routine that has improved my skin immensely but am struggling financially with the cost of my routine as well as paying for laser treatment every 6 weeks for my broken capillaries so I'm hoping I can either find products with dual purposes or products that are cheaper than what I'm currently using but just as effective I have mild rosacea and am currently suffering from a mild hormonal breakout after coming off birth control so I'm looking for products so my main concerns are reducing my leftover redness and the prevention and reduction of acne I also feel my skin looks dull and would love more of a glowy skin toneMy skin is highly reactive and sensitive and on the drier side, I've suffered from facial eczema on and off since I was 12 and perioral dermatitis the last 3 years so my skin barrier has been compromised from a barrel of steroid creams so anything to help with that would be great too I'm only 20 but would also like incorporate products to combat ageing if possible as I feel the younger you start the better the results later on!My current routine is as follows AM Avene Anti- Rougeurs Dermo Cleansing Milk Propaira Rozaway Cream Avene Anti-Rougeurs Forte Cream Dermeze Sensitive Skin Ointment (for a makeup base and to keep away my perioral dermatitis)La Roche Posey Anthelios Ultra Light Fluid SPF 50+PM Avene Anti- Rougeurs Dermo Cleansing Milk x 2 to make sure all makeup is gone Propaira Rozaway Cream Avene Anti-Rougeurs Forte Cream Sukin Rosehip Oil Sudocrem Zinc Oxide Cream 12.5% (I sleep with this on) De La Cruz Sulfur Ointment (just as a spot treatment because it dries my skin out)I also really love facial oils so if anyone knows any good ones let me know because I'm considering trying the oil cleansing method Thank you in advance :)

[acne] what is the best thing to do after popping a pimple and now left with a small scab and redness?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I know I know, I shouldn't have popped it at all in the first place but it had to be done. I had the same red mound on my face after leaving it alone for three weeks. Finally I went in and removed a lot of white stuff. The next morning (now) it is completely flat but just bright red with a little scab. What can I do now to protect it and promote healing?

[skin concerns] I've had this scar for a few years now, and it has bothered me each and every day and made me to feel insecure when talking to people. I've been told by a friend microdermabrasion may work but wanted some more advice as I'm really looking to get this fixed ASAP. Thanks in advance!

[Routine Help] I, a 18 years old broke student with Oily skin, Clogged pores and Acne scars can't seem to find a Moisturizer that won't make my situation worse
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi, ScA community. I am 18, i have an oily skin with some clogged pores and a lot of hyperpigmentations scars due to my old breakouts. I've finally found a routine that really helps a lot with my clogged pores and breakouts. Thanks to the paula's choice 2% bha liquid, i have almost no more clogged pores on my forehead and in between my eyebrows, however i haven't found a holy grail moisturizer for my morning routine, and sometimes i can feel that my skin is not moisturized enough. Since i'm now a student, my budget is limited but i'm willing to pay more for a Good moisturizer. I've been searching, for a while now, a moisturizer (without spf) with no fatty alcohols, dimethicone and other comedogenic/irritating ingredients and which is vegan & cruelty-free, (a moisturizer with ingredients that could help with pih would be the best, but that's already too much to ask). Until now, i've tried jojoba oil but it's not working under makeup and sunscreen: i look like a disco ball for the entire day. I've tried avene moisturizers, but all of them caused breakouts. I've tried paula's choice moisturizers with spf, but the composition of the products made me back out. I'm now using the la roche posay effaclay mat, but it's not that moisturing even though i love its mattifying effect, and it works pretty well under makeup. I've wanted to try cerave moisturizers, but the opinions are mixed. Same about the neutrogena hydroboost, sebamed moisturizers and clinique ddmg... I've heard good things about rosehip oil but i'm afraid that it will be like my experience with jojoba oil. Here's my skincare routine :AM:La Roche-Posay Effaclar Micellar Water or geranium hydrosolLa Roche Posay Effaclar MatLa Roche Posay Anthelios XL Ultra-Light SPF50++ but i'm going to switch to the EltaMD SPF46PM:Jojoba oil (for oil cleansing when i'm wearing makeup)Avene Cleanance Cleansing Gel + konjac spongePaula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant ( 30+min before applying an other product)Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay + apple cider vinegar (2 times a week, 20-30 min)Jojoba oil + Black seed oil + ((Almond oil + Argan oil)-> if needed, on some dry patches on the top of my cheeks or all around my mouth)Aloe vera gel on top of that (i'm not always using this, just from time to time)At night, the combination of these different oils really helps moisturing my skin and the next day, my skin looks brighter and plumper, but it's way too heavy to wear it in the daytime.Do you have any suggestions (expert or not, through your experiences etc..) of moisturizers ?PS: sorry for my english.... it's not my native language :(

[Routine Help] How do I get the most out of my products/routine? :)
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm afraid I'm not using my products correctly or that by using certain ones together I am cancelling them out or diluting them. I also worry that my skin is too tolerant sometimes. I know everyone is different, but some products that burn other people's face off, I don't feel anything. No redness, no tingling, nothing. How can I make sure I'm getting the most from my products? My skin is a bit dryer, bad texture, PIH, large pores, no acne, minimal breakouts. My main concerns are fine lines, texture, and my PIH.AM: - Splash of water - PC Vitamin C - Cerave tub - Biore Watery Essence SunscreenPM: - OCM with Jojoba Oil - Cerave Hydrating Cleanser - Proactive Toner (I know, I know, naughty) - PC AHA 8% Gel - Retin A Lotion - .025% - Cerave MoisturizerDo wait times make a difference in the effectiveness of the products or is that more for if people are sensitive to the products? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

[Routine Help] How can I lighten melanin deposited areas?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm very pale and very white so I don't know a great deal about this area of skincare and I need a little help. My boyfriend is East Asian and has a medium to dark complexion depending on the season. He is very self conscious about heavily melanin deposited areas on his body (e.g. underarms, near genitals, etc.) and has been asking me for help in finding something to lighten those areas. Are there products like this on the market that are safe to use? He wants something that isn't going to straight up bleach the skin but will at least lighten the areas with regular use. Thanks for the help!

[Acne] Sudden outbreak of pustules on chin
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi, i just woke up with a pretty horrible outbreak of pustules, and i don’t really know what to do? i’ve been struggling with acne for well over a year, but it has never gotten this bad overnight?Since 31/1 i’ve been on differin and lymecycline, before that i was on duac. i haven’t noticed much of an improvement, except that differin somewhat speeds up the process of already active acne. My skincare routine hasn’t changed in months, except that i tried a new moisturiser a few weeks ago (the cetaphil face moisturiser for dry/sensitive skin i believe it’s called). it has helped a lot with my dry skin, and everything’s been 'normal' until yesterday so i assume that’s not what’s causing it. i eat healthy (no meat, minimal dairy). i tried cutting out dairy of my diet because i’ve read that’s a common cause for acne on the chin, but i haven’t noticed any improvement. My acne is mostly on my chin (that's where it started), but i have quite a bit on my left cheek as well, and it's starting coming on the right (sigh).i have a very important event next tuesday and i need to get rid of these asap. But if you have a long term solution as well that’d be great….. i feel like i’m gonna go insane if i don’t get my skin under control soon, so if you have any tips at all i’d really appreciate it.i’m not sure how you post links on reddit haha, but i uploaded two photos here: http://imgur.com/a/02Ik3 it doesn't look like a lot but there are lots of small ones that's not very visible. please help!!

[Personal] SCA - I want to thank you
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been a lurker of SCA for about two years now. I initially sought out help on reddit because I started having a cystic acne breakout at age 23 and I was absolutely devastated. I had gone through breakouts during puberty and they disappeared once I was in my later years in highschool. They left no pigmentation, scarring or anything that would indicate breakouts....And then I was hit with this and I was shocked at how awful my face looked. I would wash my face with my regular cleanser (Aveeno Foaming Cleanser) and nothing helped. I remember laying on my back in bed after washing one night and my face throbbed and was on fire from the intense amount of breakouts and inflammation I had. I cried and felt hopeless... until I came across you guys. I was intrigued by the method of using mineral oil to get grits out (I've always had very prominent sebaceous filaments on my nose and thought this might help, even though my main issue was my cystic acne). To my dismay, it didn't. I even felt like it made things worse for a while. After reading more about the HG products and the routine examples, I decided to simplify it and just got a bottle of CeraVe cleanser and moisturizer along with sunscreen. Over the following few weeks, I made sure to be strict with my routine and with not picking at my skin/acne. My skin started improving and I started to regain confidence. I still had lots of pigmentation and scarring so I branched out more and more into serums, eye creams and my routine got more complicated - BUT I was seeing results so I didn't want to stop.Today, I went without foundation for the first time since highschool (save for concealer in my under-eye area - still working on that!). I feel... free. I want to thank everyone for their posts, advice and recommendations (even though they weren't directed specifically to me). You guys are what helped me get to here and while I'll never abandon foundation for special events (I love playing with makeup lol), my daily routine is so much easier now.To those that are currently struggling: don't give up!!

[Acne] Does anyone have experience with lasers to treat PIE? (postinflammatory erythema)
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I recently just finished an 11 month accutane course! However, I have annoying PIE remaining and would love to get these removed and after much research, consultations (with specialists and friends), I have come to the conclusion to use lasers to speed up the process. My dermatologist assured me that I can get laser treatment ASAP because of my insanely low accutane dosage (10mg for the last 4 months, now 10mg everyday). However, I would like to know if anyone has had experience with lasers to treat PIE and if so; - what laser did you use - how many times did you use it - how were the results + do you recommend itAlso, my dermatologist recommended me to use GENESIS laser treatment which I am not fairly common with. Has anyone used this specific type of laser? Thanks!

[acne] Can vitamin C cause a purge?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I used the Ordinary's 23% vitamin C a few days ago. This morning I woke up with a huge under-the-skin, no head type monstrosity on my cheek, I'm prone to a few of these, so I dabbed a bit of this charcoal/tea tree/ witch hazel on the spot, and instead of the reducing the inflammation like that mask typically does (I've been using it for 3 years now), it just brought it to a teeny- tiny head. At this point I count help but squeeze it (I know), and to my surprise loads of crap came out of it, which doesn't normally happen with the spots I get. So, does this sound like a purge or an irritation or just plain breaking out? Alternatively, is the poor vitamin C a red herring? Should I be looking at the glycolic acid cleanser I started using a few weeks ago and thought was fine? (I felt it wasn't exfoliating so I left it on my skin last night for a minute or two before rinsing it off which I don't typically do- it's the Pixi glow mud one)

[Routine Help] I want to develop a skin care routine to help with discoloration and pore size. Where to start?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi skincare addicts,I am 22F and fed up with my skin. I have had intermittent cystic acne for many years, and have recently noticed my pore size expanding on my cheeks, nose, and forehead. Additionally, there is discoloration under my cheekbones. I find that my skin has a grey-ish hue, far from the glow that I would like to achieve. Attached are pictures.Pictures hereCan anyone help me get an idea of where to start with a routine? Currently, I use Clinique Dramatically Different moisturizer every day and Queen Helene Mint mask abut twice a week. I know I need to drink more water, but I am unsure of which products to begin using. Any recommendations or tips would be much appreciated!Thank you!

[Routine Help] Finally Tried The Caveman Water Regime and.....Now I'm On Day 43.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
During my teenage years or puberty, i never had spots or acne. It wasn't until i hit my 20s that i started using face washes - don't know why but thought it was help keep me looking young and clean. Anyway ever since then I've had loads and loads of spots/acne, tried various brands of face washes, scrubs & moisturisers. Washed my face once, twice per day - and still have no effect. i read about the caveman regime many times but didn't think much of it after reading peoples reviews or youtube videos but did try it once and after a week i started using products again as i still had spots/acne. i wanted instant results. Now, 44 days ago i found this youtube video of a guy, who had it worse than me. He too then started the caveman regime only like me used water to wash his face, and his face was incredible. All cleared up, acne marks/scars were fading and he was only doing for 5-6 months so far. He was honest and did say that in order to actually see results - do it for 3 months minimum and that it will get worst before it gets better. this really got to me, so ever since then I've done what he did. and now I'm currently on day 43, my skin smooth, non oily/greasy, no spots/acne - its clean, no dead skin hanging off my face. everything we worry about - being oily, dirty, dead skin - hasn't happened. my skin/face is the best its been in years - back to like it was when i was a teenager. and best of all people have noticed. so if anyone is thinking about the cavemen regime but a modified version with water - i would say do it! just remember - 3 months minimum and be aware that it may get worst before it gets better. thanks

[Acne] [Sun Care] Wearing Sunscreen vs Keeping Acne at Bay?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Every time I wear sunscreen I break out. My skin reacts with chemical sunscreens and physical ones clog my pores, so with all types of sunscreen, I end up breaking out. It's a tough situation, because I want a clear skin, but at the same time I want to keep away the acne and pigmentation. So what's more important? Are there any other people struggling with the same issue? Any sunscreen recs, particularly physical sunscreens that don't clog pores and have no whitecast? Finding the perfect sunscreen is the bane of my existence!!

[Misc] If you're using Paula's Choice Ultra-Rich Moisturizer (for the face) switch to their body butter to get more product for less money
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So, I tried out Paula's Choice Clinical Ultra-Rich Soothing Body Butter on my face and it worked pretty much the same as their facial moisturizer, which also has a butter-like texture. With the body butter though, you get more product for less price.I actually emailed Paula's Choice and asked what the difference was. They said, "These two CLINICAL products share the same base formula (core ingredients) but the Ultra-Rich Moisturizer was specifically formulated for dry to very dry facial skin. The Ultra-Rich Moisturizer has a richer assortment of skin-restoring ingredients and slightly higher amount of emollients and plant oils, as the face is always exposed to the elements and more prone to enhanced dryness. If you’re currently using the Body Butter as your facial moisturizer and like the results, stick with it. But you also may want to try the Ultra-Rich Moisturizer and see if you find that works even better for your face and neck."I personally didn't notice much of a difference between the 2. Try it out!

Help me with my cystic period pimples!! [acne]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
When I get my period I never fail to get a painful, blind cystic pimple on my chin. I don't have a lot of acne otherwise but the hormonal spike never fails to put a big red lump of pain on my face - if you have had one of them you know exactly what I mean. It always shows up in one of three spots on my chin. They are the worst especially since they're hard to conceal and they hurt. A lot. Plus there is usually still a scab from the last one before I am on my period again with another blind cyst growing on me. I have been taking chasteberry fruit supplements for the past month or so to ease this and my other PMS symptoms but I heard that it takes several months before you see results. So in the meantime I am wondering if there are any tricks to dealing with these - I have a prescription clindamycin and bp ointment I put on them but it doesn't really work. Thanks!!!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I damaged my moisture barrier by over exfoliating and I'm trying to repair it by just using water and moisturizer in the am (+ sunscreen) and pm.The skin on my nose was peeling, I have red, dry and sometimes itchy spots on my cheek. I tried using Josie Maran Argan Oil Face Butter but yesterday I bought CeraVe Moisturizing PM lotion.Didn't seem to help anything. It made my skin soft but I am noticing more whiteheads and raised red bumps on my cheeks. Am I allergic to the alcohol/ fatty acids in it? Or should I wait it out?

[Acne] Birth control has wrecked my skin, need help with products/routine please
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey guys! This is my first post ever on here and I'm looking for some help.I have pretty oily skin and have been dealing with acne on and off since I was a preteen (I'm 21 now). I've gone through periods of clear skin, decent skin, and terrible break outs. I've also been seeing a dermatologist since I was 15.For a while my skin was pretty under control. I would break out here and there but it wasn't terrible. However after replacing my Nexplanon birth control a few months ago (this is my second go around) my skin has been worse than ever. I'm breaking out in places I've never had a problem before (forehead) and perhaps my biggest issue is that now every time I have a pimple, regardless of whether I pick at it or not, it leaves a dark mark. I can deal with a break out but it's very frustrating when I'm dealing with the scarring for so long afterwards.I was wondering if you guys could recommend any products or a routine even that would help with what I think is hormonal acne. And especially if you have any ideas on how to deal with/prevent the post acne marks. It would be greatly appreciated!Tl;Dr: New round of birth control has led to a ton of break outs and hyperpigmentation on typically oily skin, looking for products/routine to help deal with it

I have large pores and really want to even out my texture, brighten my skin and get rid of blackheads. Any favourites? Anyone tried any of origins masks? I love lush' mask of magnanimity, but I recently ran out and would like to try a new one!

[Acne] anyone that suffers from acne use baby lotion as a moisturizer?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have had mild-severe acne since I was 10 and I'm 19 and still struggling with it. I've tried everything -products, treatments, dermatologist visits, medications, diet change , lifestyle change - everything . U name itBut today I came across someone I follow on one of my social media that uses Johnson&Johnsons baby bedtime lotion on her acne prone skin and said it actually improved her skin. I did some looking around on the internet and found a few that claim the sameI know everyone reacts different to things but has anyone here personally tried this ? What were your Results ?

[Routine Help] PIH recovery suggestions?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been using this routine for maybe six-nine months, and it has been working pretty well for me, but I am wondering if there is anything more effective I could be doing or if any of the products I'm using aren't meant to be used together. I am 29 and live in the United States.I welcome any analysis or suggestions! This community is what got me thinking about skincare seriously in the first place!((pic here, right at the end of my morning routine, before makeup)Skin type: leans dry, especially on my cheeksSkin concerns:- ACNE/PIH: I had a bout of bad cystic acne on my lower cheeks for about a year, starting when I was 27. I think I have now figured out that it was caused by taking biotin pills (I can tell that story in comments if anyone cares.) In that year, I started seeing a derm again and concocted this routine. The acne is gone, and I have some lingering PIH on my lower cheeks. - FLAKING: Before I started this routine, I was prone to flaking on my cheeks, under my foundation, by the end of the workday. - REDNESS: I have always had some slight redness/blotchiness on my lower cheeks. I won't be surprised if that's the way it's going to be forever, but if anyone has a suggestion for evening out my skin tone so I don't feel like I ALWAYS need foundation I would be so grateful!PM ROUTINE (I shower at night) 1. Oil cleanser (DHC) -get in the shower- 2. Cerave foaming cleanser -get out of the shower- 3. Ziana, then wait 5-10 min 4. Paula's Choice niacinamide booster 5. Paula's Choice Calm Redness Relief serum 6. Benton's Snail Bee High Content CreamAM ROUTINE 1. Pixi Glow Tonic (applied with my hands) 2. Paula's Choice 2% BHA Skin Perfecting liquid (applied with my hands) 3. Then I wait a few minutes and wipe my face with a warm washcloth. 4. Paula's Choice Vitamin C booster 5. Paula's Choice Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum 6. Benton's snail cream again 7. Biore Watery Essence SPFFor makeup, I alternate and mix up some primers, and use a Maybelline green concealer stick and Wet n Wild Come Correct concealer on my redness, and then Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Liquid 24H Longwear SPF 15 Foundation.I am nearly out of the Pixi Glow Tonic, and would welcome suggestions as to whether I should repurchase that or try a different AHA.I also am not married to the Benton cream or even the concept of a snail cream, if anyone has another moisturizer suggestion with effective ingredients. I just would say that regular face lotions are not moisturizing enough for me, and I need a cream.I am not sure the Paula's Choice Calm serum is doing anything for my redness if anyone has an alternative suggestion. Thank you!
