Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have noticed that whenever I go to the beach and get into the water or have a lot of contact with wet beach sand, my skin feels and looks very healthy for about 3 days. I noticed my folliculitis would be almost completely gone too! I don't live near the beach anymore. What can I add to my bath water that would most closely result in the extreme skin benefits I was getting from the beach?

[Routine Help] Back Acne Hyperpigmentation
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey guys! So I had pretty bad acne on my back and chest when I was younger and still breakout here and there. Since my countries been heavily in restrictions due to COVID for a while now I’ve been getting more and more into skincare and managed to use at home derma-rolling (I’ve heavily researched into doing it at home and have also chatted with a dermatologist) to get rid of all the hyperpigmentation on my chest since its obviously reachable but can’t do the same for my back as its not reachable and because I still sometimes have 3-4 breakouts monthly. I’ve been on accutane before and it isn’t something I’d do again personally combined with seeing multiple dermatologists growing up and ALL of them trying to force me into taking accutane every. single. time. and offering no other solution (I had a doctor walk-out after a minute or so after having been on a waitlist for over a year just because I said no to accutane). I’ve somehow managed to keep my breakouts at bay at home with prescription Benzoyl Peroxide since they are not even bad enough for me to have taken Accutane in the first place (most people besides me cannot even notice).THE ROUTINE: For my back I’ve been using The Ordinary’s glycolic acid and Reviva Lab’s kojic acid in the AM and The Inkey List retinol and 2% Hydroquinone (again, something I’ve researched into) in the PM. Is there any products I should add to the routine or discontinue to fast track the process? I’ve been in the process of getting rid of these scars for over a year and would like to have a hyperpigmentation free back for the summer!Edit: I’m also thinking of getting one or two professional microneedling/chemical peel sessions as well. So thoughts on this would be great too!Edit: forgot to mention I also use Kojie San Kojic Acid soap in the shower!

[Acne] Switching from Spiro to Bicalutamide
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm creating this thread because I've found exactly zero information on it so far (in regards to acne) and would like to share my anecdotal experience of side effects of spironolactone, why I decided to switch to bicalutamide, and how my skin has reacted.I'm 30 and my skin is the best it's ever been. Somewhat thanks to a consistent routine: SA/BPO wash 1-2 times daily, Tret at night, Cerave PM pretty much whenever, at least twice daily and sometimes more, and azelaic acid 10% during the day. All of these things kept my skin calm and without redness or pustules. However I still had papules regularly show up on the lower half of my face. What really made the difference from good skin to great skin was the androgen blocker.I started Spironolactone may of last year. Within 2 months my skin was getting smoother and new bumps were not forming. By December my skin had no texture at all. I was truly happy with it. However I definitely had side effects from the spiro. I craved salt constantly. I couldn't get enough pickles and heavily salted popcorn. More concerning, I constantly felt the need to pee. I would go once an hour and feel like I hadn't drained my bladder completely. I thought it may be cystitis or a UTI and had those ruled out. My PCP couldn't find an explanation and referred me to a urologist, which I didn't go to because my issue was not painful or life altering, just annoying. I also suspected the spiro was contributing to this. I spoke with my transgender friend about the side effects (she is also on spiro, higher doses, for MtF hormone therapy) and she mentioned bicalutamide and cyproterone acetate, two other androgen blockers often prescribed.I did some research and found very little, but comparably, the side effects and efficacy of bicalutamide seemed to outweigh the cyproterone, so I started investigating that further for more specific efficacy studies for acne. The easiest way to explain spiro vs bicalutamide is that spiro works less selectively on androgen receptors, whereas bicalutamide works more selectively on androgen receptors, meaning less side effects. Bicalutamide has a particular affinity for peripheral androgen receptors (skin and hair) which makes it theoretically ideal for acne. There are no studies for bicalutamide for acne, but it's sister molecule, flutamide (which has more severe liver side effects which is why I didn't choose that) has been found to reduce acne by 80-90% in women. So I went to my PCP who originally prescribed the spiro and requested a change to bicalutamide. After having been on it for one month, I can say that my clear face has remained, my urinary symptoms and salt cravings are completely gone, and while it's not true "evidence" I think it's worth considering trying bicalutamide if you find yourself not tolerating side effects of spiro but really liking the skin results from the androgen blocking properties.I'd love to hear anyone else's experience with bicalutamide, and will update this thread as time goes on, to see if my face continues to remain clear or backslides at all.

[Skin Concerns] Has anyone else experienced more skin issues/sensitivities due to covid and lockdown?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Maybe it's just the perception of being home all day but I've noticed an increase in skin problems since covid/lockdown started. Stress hives, shower hives, heat and cold hives, dermatitis, itchy ankles and waistline from my ever increasing weight etc.One of my friends developed an allergic reaction to the sun out of nowhere, my own brother broke out in some kind of rash, another friend gets these terrible itchy hives. We're also all entering our 30's now so maybe age is a factor. And stress - my anxiety has been out of control this year. Not surprised if my condition triggered these physical symptons. What do you guys think?

[Acne] What to do when you can’t stop picking at your skin?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I recently got into the habit of picking at my skin, even if it is just a small pimple that is barley noticeable. It leaves a lot of red marks on my face that take a few days to heal. This has happened before, and I think it is because of stress. I stopped because my skin cleared up but my skin is still relatively clear and I still pick at everything I see. Does anyone have any recommendations?

[routine help] need a replacement for the purito centella sunscreen
Beauty Tips For Body Care
The purito sunscreen was my go to for over a year, and since I stopped using it I haven’t been able to find a sunscreen I like. I’ve used LRP sunscreens and neutrogena (US version of LRP), and they are both extremely drying to my skin. I pile on moisturizer but it’s not making a difference. They make my pores look huge and really make my fine lines stand out. I feel like I’ve aged twice as quickly in the last few months as usual.Does anyone know of a kbeauty or j beauty sunscreen that has confirmed high UVA protection, is spf 50+ and works well for dry skin? I don’t want to be betrayed again like I was with purito and I really want to find a good sunscreen

[Skin concerns] Cos De BAHA Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid 15%) efficacy for hyperpigmentation
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have been using vitamin C serum for almost three months. I started off with a serum from a brand called Eclat back in January, which did not have hyaluronic acid or pantothenic acid (B5) like the one I'm currently using. I didn't feel that there were any differences with the first serum I tried. I think it’s really the hyaluronic acid that makes the difference. It allows substances to penetrate the skin more easily (according to dermatologist Dr. Alexis Stephens, who I have been watching on YouTube lately. She has a lot of advice about getting rid of hyperpigmentation). I definitely see a difference using this serum. I had a nasty hyperpigmentation mark from a pimple I got in February and that mark is now gone!I started an alpha arbutin regimen as well, but haven’t been using it for more than 2 weeks. I like to alternate with the vitamin C and HA and arbutin, as some actives can cancel each other out.I wash my face with Simple Foaming Cleanser, and I use Sun Bum SPF 50 sunscreen, and natural lotions such as Very Emollient and Everyone.I generally feel that diet is the biggest impactor of skin health. So, I have been using Cronometer because it really gives you an in depth break down, down to the types of amino acids in the foods you eat. I have found that my vitamins C, A, and K intake is pretty high, not surprisingly because I’m a plant-based vegan. I do feel that topical application of vitamin C with HA enhances my skin further from any effects I get from what I’m eating. I will keep using this product and sunscreen to see if I can get even more even!I cannot find my before picture. But this is what my face currently looks like (no filters, natural light on a cloudy day)

[routine help] 31 y/o and need help building a routine (dry/dehydrated skin)
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm 31 y/o and live in Vancouver. Looking for some help to slowly build a relatively affordable and simple(ish) routine for my sensitive, dry, dehydrated skin.I work in an office so SPF isn't in my daily routine but I use a physical sunscreen on weekends when I'm going to be outside. I wear makeup about 3 times a week. Here's my current routine. I'm looking to replace the products as I use them up and maybe add a serum and eye cream to my current routine. I like how the neutrogena night cream makes my skin feel but I don't think it's hydrating enough because my forehead lines are standing out a bit more since I've started using it.Morning:wash with waterNeutrogena Deep Moisture Night CreamEvening (no makeup):Uriage Cleansing Oil (double cleanse)Neutrogena Deep Moisture Night CreamEvening (makeup):Almond oil massage and then rub it off with a microfibre cloth to remove makeupNeutrogena Deep Clean Facial CleanserNeutrogena Deep Moisture Night CreamMisc:2x/week Aztec Secret Healing Clay Mask (10min) followed by a raw honey mask (20min)1x/week Neutrogena Deep Clean Gentle ScrubThanks!!

[Misc] Basic routine for men for uneven skin tone (different shades of brown) and dark circles
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi. Currently I use body shop cleanser > khiels age defender serum > eye cream > Cerave sunscreen + moisturizer Use a scrub at times. Not part of regular routine. Is this enough for my 2 issues? If no, what else do I need? If yes, can I get a substitute for kiehls as it is too expensive?Edit : Age 28

[Sun Care] Fake Sunscreen, Whole Body Burned!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I bought a bottle of 50 SPF sunscreen at an organic shop and used it for the first time today. I put Jack Black Facial Sunscreen 45 SPF on my face, and this new 50 SPF sunscreen on my body. Then went and spent 90 minutes on the beach during midday sun. Now, a few hours later, my whole upper body is extremely burned. Already purple in color. It's like I haven't used sunscreen on it at all. My face (where I had used the other sunscreen) is fine and has no burns or pinkish colorings. So I obviously was sold a product that doesn't work, and is far from 50 SPF. Most likely 0. Now I'm in pain and obviously have a risk of getting skin cancer. What can I do in this situation? The brand is called "Corazon de la Tierra" and it's supposed to be an "all natural, chemical free" sunscreen. I'm really mad.

[product question] Can you mix peptides and exfoliating acids?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I saw this claim on a post during one of my late night google searches and was wondering if anyone else has heard this?I currently use an exfoliating toner 2-3x a week (Clinicians Complex Acne Toner) that has glycolic, lactic, malic and salicylic acid in it.I’ve been looking at the Clinique iD Lotion + the purple cartridge which has whey protein and a whole bunch of peptides in it.The article said that peptides make the acids ineffective (or vice versa I can’t find the article). How would this work? I’ve never heard this so I was wondering if someone had any science to back this up!

[product question] Kylie Jenner's stable form of Vitamin C
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Im skeptical of kylie jenner and her skincare range. HOWEVER, after looking at her ingredient lists her vitamin C uses tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate as the second ingredient, which is the highest quality vitamin C (most stable + effective). I've only ever found it in high end products such as sunday riley, PTR for $100+. I don't want to give kylie jenner money (lol) but damn! She's been advised well.Is this too good to be true? What do you guys think?Ingredients list:IngredientsWater/aqua/eau, tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, glycerin, phenoxyethanol, carthamus tinctorius (safflower) seed oil, ammonium acryloyldimethyltaurate/vp copolymer, dipalmitoyl hydroxyproline, tocopheryl acetate, tetrasodium glutamate diacetate, carbomer, polysorbate 20, sodium metabisulfite, panthenol, ferulic acid, ethylhexylglycerin, sodium hydroxide, camellia sinensis leaf extract.

First round was done in January 2021 and second was done in February 2021.I noticed today that my skin looked AWFUL.my pores were not this huge a year ago and in the pictures you can see that it seems that my pores have dark spots?I use sunscreen religiously, indoors and outdoors so I know it's not sun damage. I cleanse and moisturize most nights. Truthfully I have been in quarantine for two weeks and during this time I have been slightly lazy with moisturizer.I am really worried that this could have been due to the damage from fraxel. Is my skin just dehydrated? Is my skin just healing? Do I just need to exfoliate more? What can I do?Help a gal out please :(Current face (after I cleansed, used Paula's Choice BHA, a face mask and cosrx moisturizer):Current face side 1Current face side 2Before photo:Before 1Before 2Bonus:Skin RIGHT AFTER 1st round of Fraxel

[sun care]/[misc] Do good ingredients like niacinamide in sunscreens actually get into the skin?

Or do they just sit on top because they are suspended in the sunscreen film? (I don't use moisturizer in the morning, just sunscreen)

[Acne] I accidentally skipped literally just ONE day of my Spironolactone, which had virtually cured all of my hormonal acne over the past year, and I just woke up with three huge cysts on my chin
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Word of warning to others with hormonal acne out there I guess. It took me over a year for Spironolactone to seriously clear my skin, I barely got cysts anymore until this mishap. My skin looks loads better than before I got on Spiro so it’s not the end of the world and I know it’ll go away eventually, but I’m just feeling a little pissed off at myself for forgetting to take it and also kind of stressing whether this means I’ll be chained to Spiro for the rest of my life.Any tips to sooth my giant cysts would be very helpful! And I hope no one makes the same mistake as me, I literally just bought a weekly pill container to help me remember moving forwards whether I took it or not 😭

[Skin Concerns] Help me find the cause of my broken capillaries!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
TLDR; Which of the following could be the cause of my broken capillaries?-daily tretinoin 0,025 gel combined with clindamycin (Acnatac)-supplements: 1000 mg fish oil and 22 mg zinc a day-mineral based sunscreen (neostrata defend spf 50 and md solar sciences spf 30)-squalane cleaner the ordinaryBackground story:Hi!I started using tretinoin (0,025 gel with clindamycin) 4 months ago and did not have any adverse effects like irritation or peeling. About 6 weeks later I started getting tiny bright red spots scattered around my face. They look like petechiae but are broken capillaries. I had it checked by my derm, but he said he the tretinoin doest not cause this. He doesn't know what does cause it, he thought about rosacea but because I don't have any other symptoms (like flushing) he does not think this might be it. He prescribed 0,05 tret cream last week and since then have been using this after moisturizer every 2 days.I think it is strange that the broken capillaries started a few weeks after starting tretinoin. Yesterday however I found a broken capillary above my eye and I don't put the tret anywhere near there, so maybe there is another cause to these capillaries. There's a few things I changed at the same time of starting tret, could there be anything else that I use which is causing these broken capillaries?-omega 3 supplements (1000 mg fish oil) and 22 mg chelated zinc a day-mineral based sunscreen (neostrata defend spf 50 and md solar sciences spf 30) reapply 2 times a day and avoiding the sun (I'm not outside a lot and it has been overcast weather mostly. when sunny wearing cap and sunglasses).-double cleansing with squalane cleanser by The Ordinary (and Toleriane wash from LRP but was already using this before).-Yasmin birth control (drosperinone), but I have used this a few years ago as well without problems.- I also have a small deficiency in iron and vit D, and will start supplementing soon.My derm already told me the only thing that can be done about broken capillaries is laser treatments... My biggest concern is: how do I stop these capillaries from apearing? Should I stop the tretinoin? It has been working so well for my skin texture, but of course I don't want to damage my skin any further.

GoalsIt's helpful to have a goal in mind before setting out on your no/low buy journey, so leave a comment and share what your goal is! Do you want to limit yourself to a specific budget? Do you want to stop buying new items entirely? Are you only allowed to buy a specific product? If you want to dig a bit deeper, you can share WHY you want to do this. What's your motivation? There will come a point in this process where you want to cave, so formulating a clear reason about why this is important to you will help you stick to your guns. Check inHave you needed to adjust your goal? Was your no-buy/low-buy resolution sorely tempted? How did you deal with that? Do you need some support to help you stick to your guns?Have you found a good tip to help you stay on budget?Do you have a victory to share?Did you cave and buy something you didn't need?Do you need a "talk me out of"? [Product Question] Does a moisturiser like this exist?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm very clog prone and after years and years I know what ingredients don't work for me, but finding a product that doesn't have these ingredients AND also provides adequate hydration seems impossible?I can't use squalane and fatty alcohols, anything coconut derived. Butylene Glycol irritates my skin so much. Also I'm pretty sure my skin hates silicones.I've been using benton aloe propolis gel but it's just not enough.

[skin concerns] Wrinkles at 21? Driving me crazy
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I don’t know where to post this, delete if not appropriate please!I’m only 21 and I look young otherwise, but I started to notice that I have wrinkles on my forehead! They’re there at all times and in every picture, it’s driving me crazy. I have anxiety and i wrinkle my forehead naturally, I have for a long time. Is this permanent? It’s really driving me crazy. I catch myself squinting/wrinkling my forehead and I don’t know why. I’ll be doing something and I realise I’m stressing my forehead. It’s like I can’t stop. Where should I start/what do I do? Seriously it’s making me so upset, I didn’t have these before and suddenly they’re permanent. No one has wrinkles at this age! I look like an old baby

[acne] 25M. Undefeatable oily skin covered in acne and whiteheads destroying my confidence and effecting mental health. Please help!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Ok first I just want to say thank you for anybody who invests their time into reading this and/or trying to help me!Introduction Ever since a teenager I’ve had spots. I’ve stupidly thought they would eventually go and due to that plus periods of depression and/or substance abuse I’ve neglected them. This means I also have pretty bad scaring. I’m now in a healthier place in my life, I eat and exercise healthily, have a good work place etc, the only thing that doesn’t seem to want to fall into place is my skin improving! I’m desperate to fix it. About 3 months ago I adopted a routine which I will detail below. My skin - Very oil prone, half way through the day I have to control my urge to wipe oil off my face that’s built up as I can physically feel it. I wake up with oil over my face and whiteheads every day without fail! Also incredibly blemish prone. Will have them around my cheek nose area all the while. I wear glasses, and notice blemishes around where they contact my skin a lot.My routine - Morning 1. La Roche Pussay Effaclar Anti-Blemish cleanser 2. The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% blemish formula 3. I also disinfect wipe my glassesEvening 1. La Roche Pussay Effaclar Anti-Blemish cleanser 2. 2% salicylic acid serum from AmazonThis routine has not helped, if anything my skin is worse. Please help me guys haha!Thank you so much for your time.

[MISCELLANEOUS] See a dermatologist!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Just some friendly advice that I knew but didn't take soon enough! About 4-5 months ago my skin started flipping out and I couldn't figure out why. I bought a bunch of products which helped a bit but not much. I got a few facials which were lovely, but ultimately didn't fix whatever was going on with my skin. Finally made an appointment with a dermatologist a few weeks ago. I described my skin and the sudden change, she spent about 30 seconds looking at my face and told me I have rosacea ("acne rosacea"). Apparently it's a truly textbook case. She gave me some prescriptions and my skin has improved DRAMATICALLY so quickly. It's insane what seeing an actual expert will do! I could have saved a lot of money, stress and aggravation if I had just made the appointment sooner. So here's my reminder - from personal experience - if your skin changes suddenly and you don't know why...see a doctor!

[Review] Aveeno’s Calm + Restore System
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi all! I about three weeks ago, I switched to Aveeno’s Calm + Restore System, and it is doing WONDERS for my skin, so I thought I’d share my thoughts for anyone looking into the line.I have a lovely combination of dry/eczema/very sensitive skin, so I’m always cautious about what I’m putting on my face. These products are some of the most gentle cleansers/moisturizers I’ve ever used (including my old BFF CeraVe).As you can see in the before and after photos linked below, my skin has drastically improved! It’s even calmed the redness of my cheeks, and my eczema patches are much less severe (oat is magic for eczema btw!)I apply all three in the morning and then again right before bed. The only downside is they are a bit pricy for a drugstore item, but a little goes a long way, particularly for the serum and moisturizer! If you’re looking for a gentle, lightweight skincare system for your dry/sensitive skin, I highly recommend! Here are the links: - Nourishing Oat Cleanser - Triple Oat Serum - Oat Gel MoisturizerHere are some before & after photos: https://imgur.com/a/mdVw7Na/

[skin concerns] Is anybody else experiencing terrible skin during quarantine?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
And I'm not talking acne and fungal acne solely. I'm talking spontaneous body rashes/pimples/flare-ups of any kind and basically becoming intolerant to everything. I like to think that I'm taking good care of my skin, but it seems like it's getting more and more sensitive from spending most of my time inside. I do go out for a walk every now and then, but because I'm working from home and because of the pandemic related restrictions, I'm not even half as active as I used to be before this all started. :(

I do go out for a walk every now and then, but because I'm working from home and because of the pandemic related restrictions, I'm not even half as active as I used to be before this all started. :(

[Sun Care] PSA: Space NK will stop shipping Ultra Violette sunscreens to the USA due to UV filter restrictions.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Today I reached out to Ultra Violette to ask when/if they will allow Space NK to ship their Lean Screen, and this is the response I received:Thank you so much for reaching out! Unfortunately, there is an error on the Space NK website, and we can’t actually ship to the US until the FDA updates their list of approved UV filters. Our formulas are just too fancy for them! Their website will be updated soon so that no purchases of our skinscreens can be made from the USA, including Lean Screen. Heartbreaking, I know! I hope you have a lovely day!I am so disappointed by the news and wanted to share this ASAP in case any of you wanted to stock up.

[Acne] My skincare journey is frustrating me
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Does anyone else get really discouraged by their skincare routine? I feel like I have to come to terms with the fact that I will never have clear, beautiful skin. I've had acne my whole life and I started differin in September and purged (super badly) from October-December but since then I have had these dark acne scars that make me so self-conscious because my skin looks so dull. I went to my derm about my acne scars in december and she put me on a sodium sulfacetamide serum but it hasn't cleared them one bit and it's been like three months. My skin is somehow oily and acne-prone but super dry and flaky at the same time and I have giant giant pores and so many sebacious filaments on my nose but I can't use salycilic acid on them because that combined with the differin stresses my skin out and dries it out like crazy. I don't get much acne anymore bc of the differin but when I do they stay as scars and never fade and my skin tone and texture is so off. I am frustrated. I just wanna have nice skin!!

[acne] Advice? I feel like my acne is non treatable
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi I’m a 20 year old female with acne and I feel so hopeless. I’ve been on accutane twice already at 16 and 18, which kept me clear for a little over a year each time. I’m on my third course right now and I’m in my fourth month. My acne keeps getting worse and idk if the purging phase is supposed to last this long, and I’ve never experienced this in the past:( I am also on 150 mg of spiro and yaz birth control for almost three months, and again my acne just continues to get worse despite this. Obviously being on accutane I can’t use any topicals, so I feel like I’m doing everything I can. Why is my acne not treatable? Anyone have any insight or advice? I’m on a hefty dose of accutane for my weight, I’m 44 kg and on 50 mg. I take it with plenty of fat and I’m still suffering. I just don’t understand how with all of this I’m not even seeing the slightest improvement, it baffles me. I’m so depressed

[PSA] don’t be like me: sunscreen ingredients
Beauty Tips For Body Care
i just found out the sunscreen i’ve been using religiously for past 5 years has no UVA protection in it, and i’m upset to say the least. mostly at myself for assuming a good sunscreen brand would have both UVA and UVB protection (la roche posay) but also at how hard it is to see what UVA protection our sunscreens have in the US.i’m sure i have been making my melasma worse (it never seems to get better) and what is funny is that i switched to mineral sunscreen because of it. i just turned 40 so i’m not happy about how i thought i was helping filter UVAging rays but i was literally doing nothing. i wear a hat outside when i’m out for a while but still.i’m going to finish up the bottles i have by using colourscience sunforgettable powder sunscreen on top-i’m working from home so at least i won’t be out in the sun as much as pre-pandemic levels.the sunscreen in question is la roche posay anthelios mineral tinted sunscreen spf 50. i assumed that because it was tinted, it was masking the zinc oxide. nope! they have a non tinted one that has both. i have used it before and it does give a white cast.i’m going to try the elta md uv elements spf 44. just ordered it and it apparently plays well with makeup!i have to thank angie from hot and flashy for all this info. i thought i was savvy but i had literally no idea. i looked the LRP sunscreen years ago to see how well it did with UVA but it must have been the non tinted one because it was decent/good. not the one i was using!tldr: LRP mineral tinted sunscreen spf 50 has only UVB filters, check all ingredients when choosing a sunscreen. people are probably better about it now than 5 years ago but I hope i can help someone!

[Skin concerns] Help managing sensitive periorbital skin and acne-prone skin
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have combination & sensitive skin. My forehead, temples, cheeks, and chin are prone to mild acne (a mix of closed comedones, papular, and pustular). My periorbital skin is very thin, dry, and sensitive. I'm having a hard time keeping my eye skin moisturized and protected from the sun while still treating the acne. If I apply my acne topicals before moisturizer / SPF, I run the risk of rubbing the medication onto my eyelids when I apply moisturizer / SPF (even if I let the topical dry first). Sometimes I try applying SPF to my eyelids before I rub it into the rest of my face, so that once the SPF touches the acne-treated skin, it doesn't end up on my eyelids. But when I do that, I end up over-applying the SPF to my eyelids, and it seeps into my eyes and burns. Any tips on how to keep my eyelids sun-protected AND free of topical acne medication?Current routineAM: Rinse face with water, Clinique All About Eyes rich to periorbital skin, apply some acne topical (see below, I cycle throughout the week) either to problem areas or to the entire face with the exception of my periorbital skin, La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer UV SPF 30 to entire face.PM: Wash with Natural Elephant Dead Sea Sulfur Soap, Clinique All About Eyes rich to periorbital skin, apply some acne topical, Heritage Store Rosehip Seed Oil to entire face.Acne topicals that I cycle through: Clindamycin 1%, Finacea 15%, Retin-A Micro 0.06%, Aczone 7.5%Duration of current routine:I've rinsed with water in the morning and used Clinique All About Eyes rich as long as I can rememberI've used Retin-A Micro and Aczone for several years (though I took a year hiatus and started using them again 3 or so months ago)Dead Sea Sulfur soap x 2 monthsI've started the LRP SPF as well as the topical Clinda and Finacea for about 4 weeksMy eyelids have always been very dry and sensitive, but they've been extra sensitive ever since I had an allergic reaction to Benzoyl Peroxide 6 weeks ago (I didn't apply it directly to my eyelids, but it must have spread there).TIA for any advice :)

[skin concerns] and [product question] Bacne from Exercising
Beauty Tips For Body Care
For the last 6ish months I’ve been engaging in sports that cause me to sweat a lot about 4-5 times a week. I run 3-4 times a week and go to hot yoga once a week.I have lots of workout gear and never wear the same items twice without washing them. I shower right after each activity and use body wash on a loofa (I can reach my back and my bf helps sometimes too lol)I currently use Softsoap body wash but I’m wondering if I need something stronger? Any ideas or product recommendations are welcomed!!

[routine help] Boycotting Glossier, help me replace my routine plz!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have a fairly diligent routine that I don't ~love~ but more importantly, I'm choosing to no longer support Glossier due to issues with racism within the company. As my supply of Glossier products begins to dwindle, I'd love help replacing and refining my routine with other brands. My skin and routine described below!Age/gender: 33 yo womanSkin type: combination, oily T zone, dry patches at timesConcerns: congested pores, occasional breakouts (not too bad, but when I get pimples they tend to be cystic which sucks), fine lines, hyperpigmentationClimate: humid but cool -- not "sticky"Current Routine (some products daily, some intermittent):milk jelly cleanserniacinamide + zinc, hyaluronic acid + B5, and vitamin C + magnesium serums10% bha/aha/pha salicylic acid solutionspf 35eye and lip creamdetoxifying and hydrating maskslight and heavier moisturizers, depending on how my skin is feelingI've also introduced a few products from The Ordinary, which have similar formulas to the Glossier products; however, I never really evaluated whether my routine was actually right for my skin... I basically just wanted to try the full product line because I was enjoying the company and their products. Now? Not so much. It didn't really do wonders over the past few years, and they're a problematic company. Thank u, next, I guess!(Edited for improved formatting)

**[Skin Concerns]** Should I wash my face and reapply products if I’ve cried shortly after doing my nighttime skincare routine?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I don’t do much skincare to be honest at the moment but what I have been using are mostly leave on treatments such as Paula’s Choice BHA exfoliant and The Inkey List Tranexamic Acid Overnight Treatment. If I’ve cried after applying the night skin routine, obviously the tears will wipe a lot of the product off. Are the tears really bad for your skin? And is it worth washing my face and reapplying? Sucksss, because it’s expensive to waste :(Thanks! X

[Miscellaneous] Water mess when washing face in sink
Beauty Tips For Body Care
How do you wash your face and keep everything tidy? When I wash my face I get water all over myself, the sink, the floor, and the vanity cabinets. The cabinet under the sink is particle board and now it's water damaged and bulging. I want to buy a new bathroom vanity but I don't want to ruin the next one. If I can't figure this out I might buy something less suseptible to damage.

[Skin Concern] I heard that the The Ordinary AHA/BHA peeling solution is not good for POC.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I bought some products from the ordinary and was really excited to try the AHA/BHA peeling solution. I haven’t used it on my face yet, but recently I came a cross a video that said that this chemical peel is not safe for people of color. Does anyone know what is safe for people with deeper melanin?

[ACNE] Help! I tried a pimple extractor tool (the metal loop thing?) and now I feel totally overwhelmed and lost
Beauty Tips For Body Care
[[[my normal situation and routine is in comments]]]So my fiancé and I recently got one of those metal tools with the two loops on each end, meant to squeeze out pimples.I wasn’t going to use it at all, (my fiancé got it for his blackheads) but I tried it on a whim for fun, and wow...Nearly everywhere has something inside??White pus is hidden everywhere???Ever since, I’ve been obsessive with using this thing and I think I may be using it too much. But now that I know my face is hiding all this stuff- ugh! I feel lost and distraught and confused about what to do.Is this a huge problem and means my face needs serious work, or is it normal for each pore to contain a little bit of white?

[Skin Concern] My skin has more tendency to form scars?!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Okay so one thing I've noticed is, even when I take good care of my skin and let's say.. I breakout. Those breakouts could be just like 1 or 2 max. Or PMS time. Even if they heal on their own and I don't mess up with them, they WILL LEAVE SCARS. And those scars won't go away. Even if I apply azelaic acid, retinol etc. If they do fade partially they take a lot of time like 3 to 4 months.I meaaannn, I was planning for a wedding coming up, taking care of my skin etc and then due to fluctuation in diet I got 2 breakouts. NOW the wedding is on 1st April and I'm here sitting with my breakout scars. This demotivates me soo much to take care of my skin, knowing that when I'll need it to look good. Only then it won't.!!Can someone please advice me on what vitamins to take or change in diet or products to use? I'll appreciate 💕

[PSA] Invest in a humifier if you live in a dry climate and have dry or dehydrated skin.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I (28F) live in California (dry climate) and have combo skin. I have large pores and some occasional acne, but my skin feels perpetually dry, not oily. I've tried many different moisturizers from light to super heavy and none of them actually fix this problem. They make my skin feel moisturized for maybe an hour at most and then my skin goes back to feeling dry. A few months ago I invested in a humidifier and it has been the biggest game changer to my skincare routine. I sleep with it on all night and my skin no longer feels dry all the time! If you live in a dry climate and have dry or dehydrated skin, I highly recommend giving this a shot. It has singlehandedly made all the difference for me. I'm so glad my endless search for the "right" moisturizer is over.

[Personal] New serum caused anaphylaxis
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Apparently skin care allergy can cause anaphylaxis. I just got back from the ER after trying the Acure Bakuchiol serum. I've been curious about trying Bakuchiol before retinol and didn't want to spend a fortune. Big mistake.I put it on last night and, looking back, I felt a bit of tingly, but I didn't think much of it. I put it on again this morning. After breakfast, I felt my face getting hot and tingly. I looked down and my hands were getting very red and hot and tingly, too. Suddenly my whole body was covered in hives.I took an antihistamine and hopped on a Telehealth appointment. I figured I was having a severe stress reaction because my Dad died 2 weeks ago and my husband and I were discussing how I was feeling. The Telehealth doctor told me he thought it was an allergic reaction but he couldn't rule out anaphylaxis since I was feeling nauseous. He needed to take my blood pressure. So off I went to the ER.By the time I got to the ER my chest was tight. My blood pressure was the highest I've ever seen it. So I was given an ECG. The doctor came in and confirmed that he thought it could be anaphylaxis/allergy and not cardiac. Since nothing else changed and all of my food was totally normal stuff, he concluded it was likely my new serum.I wanted to post because I didn't think skincare could cause anaphylaxis like this. I'm so glad the first doctor pushed me to get checked because I was ready to write it off as stress.I'm not posting to scare anyone or be anti-clean beauty or anti-fragrance or anything (although, I'm personally feeling pretty anti-natural/clean beauty right now).I wanted to post to remind others to be aware with new products because they can cause severe issues. Maybe not often, but I never thought this could happen to me. I had even trialled it the day before. The ER doc reminded me that the first contact usually isn't one that causes a reaction. So back I go to my fragrance-free bland life and I'll get my kicks elsewhere (and be envious of those of you who can use fragranced or planty things with no problems because I know it can be fun).

[Sun Care][Review] 15 Sunscreens for Sensitive Skin at Low Price Point (with Photos + Research!) - PART TWO
Beauty Tips For Body Care
15 Sunscreens for Sensitive Skin at Low Price Point (with Photos + Research!) - PART TWOI'm back for ROUND TWO of sunscreens, with slightly different requirements and a better understanding of sunscreen formulation and effectiveness. I dove back into my research, bought 15 solid candidates, took too many photos of my face, and wrote 12,000 words about my experiences.Fair warning: this is a long read. Reddit has a character limit for posts (40,000) so I split this post into five sections. The first half is here in this post, while the rest is in comments below. When you reach the end of the post, keep scrolling! Please also upvote the comments with the rest of the reviews so they stay at the top of the section and folks can find them more easily.I have desert-dry, sensitive skin. I suffer from seasonal eczema and allergic contact dermatitis. After a round of formal dermatological patch testing in early 2020, I know that I'm allergic to sandalwood and lanolin, and reactive to fragrance and essential oils. I've been on retinoids (Differin, then Adapalene 0.3%, now Tretinoin Micro 0.04%) since March 2018.My selection criteria:Low price point (I aimed for under 40 cents per ml, but I'm bad at math and made mistakes)Safe for sensitive skin (must be free of fragrance and essential oils, alcohol free preferred)At least SPF 50 with good UVA protectionI don't want a sunscreen that I need to be precious with or careful to keep out of my eye area. I want something cosmetically elegant that I can glob on everywhere and have it just work. I don't mind some initial white cast if it fades completely. Preference for sunscreens that perform well when reapplied or worn under makeup (minimal to no pilling) but I work from home and don't go out that often, so I'm flexible on this.Group Photo of the Whole Squad Together!I have 9 chemical/organic sunscreens, 2 combination sunscreens, and 4 physical/mineral sunscreens. 4 of them are potential contenders to take over Purito Centella Green Level Unscented SPF's place on your vanity.I tried to take photos of each sunscreen on multiple days and in different lighting (indoor, outdoor, bathroom, office, etc.) to give you the clearest picture of how it looks. I also triple-checked that my phone didn't have any auto-filters turned on. I know this is fairly common with smartphones these days. That's how I know the formulator didn't put in any random bullshit that has a high chance of irritating my skin. According to the brand website, this sunscreen is supposed to be "repairing" and "especially formulated for the protection of damaged skin, in order to prevent the darkening process" in the recovery phase after dermatological procedures. The brand website claims that it "guarantees summer skin without marks," that it has "invisible texture," and that it "repairs skin 7x faster" compared to untreated skin. That implies a high level of both UVA and UVB protection, and the combination of filters backs up that claim. I have seen several mentions on Reddit that this product has a PPD value of 40+ but I wasn't able to find a good source to corroborate this.Uvasorb HEB (Iscotrizinol) is a nearly perfect UVB filter. It requires relatively low concentrations to achieve high SPF values and it is one of the most photostable chemical sunscreens, with 25 hours required to lose 10% of its SPF protection ability. In contrast, other "photostable" filters reach that point in just two hours. Uvasorb HEB is also present in the Avène Solar Cream sunscreen, as well as many other Avène products. The antioxidant and soothing ingredients include polysaccharide (prebiotic sugar), carrot root extract, niacinamide, and caffeyl glucoside (antioxidant with anti-inflammatory and photoprotective effects).Impressions: After falling in and out of love with the Purito Green Level SPF, I started my search with EU sunscreens that also contain centella/cica, the star ingredient in the Purito product. Due to inadequate prior research, I assumed that any product with "cica" in the name contained centella asiatica (madecassoside). That assumption proved correct for the Bioderma Cicabio product (below), but not for the SVR one! The SVR Cicavit product line actually does not contain centella. This sunscreen is a very close match to the Purito in terms of texture, tolerability, and performance – despite the missing key ingredient. It's a thicker, colorless cream and a little more difficult to spread, which is reassuring because it means it creates a more robust barrier on my skin. It absorbs into my skin but leaves a light protective barrier, which I quite like. There is zero white cast, it masks redness the way the Purito does, and it never caused an eczema flare-up after wearing it every day for a week. It's easy to apply a lot of this stuff (even more than the recommended amount) without becoming greasy or cakey. It's more nourishing than the Purito, and my skin never felt dry or tight even after 12 hours of wear and multiple reapplications. The true test came when I wore this to the salon to get my hair cut in January (the first time since Covid began). Even after sitting under one of those hot hair dryer dome things for 15 minutes, my skin didn't get red or itchy the way it usually does (hot air is a trigger for me). In that case, the SVR Cicavit+ is protective, something I really need in the wintertime! It also worked great with makeup, as long as I didn't wait too long to apply my foundation. The only downside is that it tends to pill up after wearing for a few hours, so I need to be really careful not to touch my face at all or it'll start to ball up and fall off. It's better to reapply by patting it in, rather than rubbing. It's also significantly smaller than the Purito bottle, but at the same price point. I wish this came in a larger bottle. Despite these negatives, this is a winner for me! Even after trying all of the other sunscreens, this is the one that I reach for the most often. I've already repurchased another bottle and plan to continue using it long-term. I especially love the next-generation filters and (possibly) super-high UVA protection. If you're not sure which SVR sunscreen is right for you, check out this review post by /u/_Tiny_Penguin_ that discusses three SVR sunscreens, including the Cicavit+ one. They have combination skin that doesn't vibe with the richness of this sunscreen, so they prefer SVR Sun Secure Invisible Fluid Dry Touch. According to this review by /u/jeong_life, SVR Sensifine Air Creme is less heavy/greasy than the SVR Cicavit+ so that might also be a good option for combo or oily skin.Ingredients: INCI DecoderPrice: $16.04 for 40 ml ($0.40 per ml)Photos: Click here(2) Bioderma Cicabio Soothing Repairing Cream SPF50+ PPD 31Filters: Uvinul A Plus, Homosalate, Octinoxate, Octisalate, Uvinul T 150, Tinosorb SKey Facts: Fragrance Free, Alcohol Free, Essential Oil FreeMarketing Claims: The ingredients list is fabulous – hyaluronic acid, glycerin, centella asiatica, madecassoside, oh my! It also contains Antalgicine (a proprietary ingredient) that's supposed to "regulate skin reactivity" and "relieve discomfort and the urge to scratch."Centella asiatica (also known as brahmi, Asiatic pennywort, tiger grass, and gotu kola) is one of my favorite skincare ingredients. Centella has potent antioxidant properties, is a rich source of amino acids, can help repair the moisture barrier, and may mitigate some of the visible effects of sun damage. It increases synthesis of collagen, improves tensile strength of newly formed skin, and inhibits the inflammatory phase of hypertrophic scars and keloids. (Source: Advances in Dermatology and Allergology and Paula's Choice)The marketing for the Bioderma Cicabio cream says that it's "ideal for use after dermatological procedures, and in instances of irritation, redness and overheating." This aligns with research on centella asiatica, so it seems like a reasonable claim.Impressions: This is the first contender for the champion sunscreen that will take Purito's centella-scented throne. Should we call it... Game of Centella Clones? (That was a poorly executed pun, forgive me.)I put this review immediately after the SVR Cicavit+ review so you'd still have it in your mind when you read about Bioderma's version of a centella sunscreen. The short answer is that this stuff is inferior to the SVR product, although I can't really tell you why that is. It's easy to apply, feels nice on my skin, and has no whitecast. The product itself is clearly green in color, but it goes on clear right away with zero effort. The combination of filters is really nice, so it offers great UVA/UVB protection. It also gives long-lasting moisture from the HA and glycerin. The problem is that it irritated the heck out of my dry skin. It resurrected eczema patches on my face that I thought were totally healed. You can see a couple of these spots in the photos, bright red and angry on my cheek and temple. After an hour of wear, my eyes started to burn, so I had to wash it off. It's similar to my experience with another Bioderma product in this list, the Photoderm Max Milk. Why, Bioderma? Why do your sunscreens suck for me? This stuff should have been great, and it's probably perfectly fine for everyone but me. If you've used Bioderma products in the past and had a good experience, you will most likely like this. This sunscreen is the worst value of all the products I tried. 30 ml is only enough sunscreen for 12 days if you use 1/2 tsp each day. That means you'll spend more than $32 for one month of sunscreen. It is a good size to keep in my bag to use as hand cream when I'm out and about, which is how I'm using this up. It's a pretty bomb hand cream, but not worth the price.Ingredients: INCI DecoderPrice: $17.81 for 30 ml ($0.59 per ml)Photos: Click here(3) Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Watery Sun Gel SPF50+ PA++++Filters: Octisalate, Homosalate, Tinosorb S, Tinosorb M, Uvinul A Plus, Parsol SLX(4) Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Perfect Sun Block SPF50+ PA++++Filters: Titanium DioxideHere are the second and third contenders in the Game of Centella Clones. This is a joint review! Like the Verdio sunscreens (below), I couldn't really tell which one of these hyaluronic acid centella sunscreens would be best for me, so I decided to get both. One of them is a chemical sunscreen (watery sun gel) and the other is a physical sunscreen (perfect sun block). The formulas are similar enough that it makes more sense for me to discuss them together in a compare/contrast style, rather than repeating myself in two separate reviews.I want to be clear on pricing – retail price for both of these products is $20–$26 USD, which is above my price limit. However, during Jolse's Chinese New Year sale in February, they were 50% off and I was able to grab both for $26 combined. Jolse and Yesstyle have sales all the time, so I believe this more affordable price will be accessible, given some patience. Once you've tried it, it's a good idea to stock up on 5+ bottles at a time when the price is right.Key Facts: Fragrance Free, Alcohol Free, Essential Oil FreeMarketing Claims: Both sunscreens are packed with soothing and hydrating ingredients: EIGHT variants of hyaluronic acid (small, medium, and large molecule size), centella asiatica, niacinamide, ceramides, lactobacillus ferment lysate filtrate (probiotic with soothing and anti-redness properties), pycnogenol (antioxidant derived from pine bark), and purslane extract (succulent plant with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, rich in omega-3 fatty acids).According to this article by Lab Muffin, "smaller molecules are able to penetrate the skin better than larger molecules, which means that low molecular weight hyaluronic acid can hydrate deeper than high molecular weight hyaluronic acid, which holds onto water at the surface of the skin."The brand product pages say that the products passed a skin irritation test with a score of 0.0, which makes them hypoallergenic, according to the COREDERM Skin Research Center. The product pages do not elaborate on the testing process, so we have to take that at face value. The perfect sun block is marketed for sensitive skin for soothing and brightening purposes, while the watery sun gel is marketed for dry skin for moisturizing and softening purposes. I feel like the Venn diagram of dry skin versus sensitive skin in this context is basically a circle. In theory, the chemical filters in the sun gel might potentially be irritating to very sensitive folks, who might have an easier time with physical blockers.I like the next-generation filters in the sun gel. It includes a "hybrid" filter (Tinosorb M) that's halfway between a physical blocker and a chemical agent. It works in partnership with the other next-gen filter (Tinosorb S) to provide excellent UVA/UVB spectrum coverage. It also has Parsol SLX (Polysilicone-15), which is a new one for me; I don't think I've tried a sunscreen with this filter yet. Launched in 2008, it's a silicone-based UVB absorber. This sun gel also contains Uvinul A Plus, an awesome UVA blocker. I'm super impressed by the sheer number of filters packed into this sunscreen! It seems to me like it provides layers of redundant protection for both UVA and UVB with both old-school US filters and next-generation EU filters. I wish we knew more about the percentages used.As for the perfect sun block, it has only one filter (Titanium). While Titanium doesn’t provide as much protection from long-wave UVA rays as Zinc, it is still effective at blocking short-wave UVA and UVB. Read more about this here. There is one other Titanium-only sunscreen in this list (Avène Mineral Milk) for comparison. I don't want to spoil that review, but I will say that Titanium is known for causing pretty bad white cast. As far as I'm concerned, both Isntree products are likely to provide good broad-spectrum protection, so it comes down to how they perform in real life and which one is more cosmetically elegant.Impressions: The watery sun gel was my most-anticipated purchase. It has everything I like and nothing I can't tolerate, with a bunch of nifty next-generation filters. It's a thin, opaque gel that goes on clear right away. The name "watery gel" is perfectly accurate because it feels just like water on my skin, with a slight cooling effect as it dries and absorbs. I was a little wary about the amount of protection in such a cosmetically elegant sunscreen, so I went ahead and applied two layers to start. It never felt thick or cakey; it didn't feel any different from applying a single layer even when I put on five fingers' worth of product. It has a satin (leaning matte) finish after it dries down, which takes less than five minutes. Other reviews have called the finish dewy, but this wasn't my experience. If you tried Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence and loved the way it feels but didn't like the high ethanol content, you should definitely pick this up.I had an active, itchy eczema patch on my right cheek on the first day I tested this. I was about two weeks into this flare-up and didn't want to wait any longer to test out my fancy new sunscreens. I was interested to see whether this would irritate the area, make it more red, or cause bumpiness. Was this a stupid risk? Yes. If you have active eczema, you probably shouldn't be trying out new skincare products. It's like playing a game of chicken with the devil. The results: it didn't make my patch of eczema any worse, and it didn't cause it to burn or itch. It was inoffensive, which is one of the best things I can say about a sunscreen.I encourage you to also read this review of the hyaluronic sun gel by /u/uv-ux from a few months ago. Their impressions are quite similar to mine. James Welsh also reviewed this product in this video. He says, "it's everything I expect from a Korean sunscreen" and "Isntree is a brand that never disappoints me."Later, once my eczema patch was more healed, I tried the perfect sun block. As expected, this one was a light cream in texture. It goes on chalk white and it takes a little while for the white cast to fade. It felt a little tacky for a while before it dried down completely, which took roughly 10 minutes. At first I thought that the cast did fade completely (I couldn't see it IRL) but you can clearly see it in the photos. I didn't apply this around the back of my neck so I could compare the sunscreen areas with bare skin. There's definitely a faint white cast, even after 20-30 minutes of waiting. I also saw some remaining chalkiness around my hairline. It rubbed off white streaks on my clothes; this is most visible on the day I wore a black t-shirt.I've tried far worse mineral sunscreens so I'm not mad about this. It's perfectly fine for days when I hang out at home by myself with the doggos. However, if you're going to buy a mineral sunscreen, I would recommend choosing one with Zinc rather than Titanium, or a very small amount of Titanium. It seems like white cast is more or less unavoidable with Titanium.I recommend watching this review video of all three Isntree hyaluronic acid sunscreens (there's also a stick one). You can see side-by-side comparisons of product applications and finishes.Ingredients: INCI Decoder for GEL and INCI Decoder for BLOCKPrice: $16.71 for 60 ml ($0.27 per ml)Photos: Isntree Watery Sun Gel and Isntree Perfect Sun Block(5) La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 SPF50 Soothing Repairing BalmFilters: Homosalate, Octisalate, Avobenzone, Octocrylene, Tinosorb S, Uvinul T 150, Ensulizole, Mexoryl XLKey Facts: Fragrance Free, Essential Oil Free, Contains Alcohol Denat. (7th ingredient)Marketing Claims: Everyone on /r/tretinoin loves the LRP Cicaplast Baume B5. It has obtained HG status as a gold-star occlusive just like Aquaphor, Cerave healing ointment, and good old fashioned Vaseline. The sunscreen version is described as a "dual action formula" ideal for "all kinds of everyday skin irritations and minor everyday injuries caused by daily aggressions." (What is an "aggression" in this context? Walking to the mailbox without SPF? Looking out the window on a sunny day?) There is no explanation provided for what "dual action" means, although my hunch is they're referring to sunscreen + moisture but trying to make it sound high-tech. It has EIGHT sunscreen filters, which frankly might be overkill even for me. I have to assume the percentages used are super low, right?According to the product description, this is a "lightweight formula [that] absorbs fast, avoiding any sticky, greasy residue." Based on the ingredients list, I believe this counts as an occlusive, as well as a moisturizer and sunscreen. A true multitasking extraordinaire, it might be a "one and done" product for your AM routine. It has one of LRP's favorite ingredients, Panthenol (Vitamin B5), as well as madecassoside, glycerin, zinc, and thermal spring water.La Roche Posay is part of L'Oréal Group, which means some of its profit goes to Nestlé.Impressions: This is the fourth contender for the Game of Centella Clones throne. Like many others here, I quite like the original Cicaplast Baume and used it liberally until I found an alternative that works better for me – Aveeno Baby Nighttime Eczema Balm, which I get in a giant tub. Oatmeal > centella in my book, although I like both ingredients a lot.Do the wealth of moisturizing and soothing ingredients make up for the alcohol in this product? I'm sensitive to alcohol in my skincare and usually flush red when exposed to it. Like all the other sunscreens on this list, I patch tested this on the inside of my wrist for three days. I expected it to smell like a perfume sample but I didn't catch even the faintest whiff of alcohol. That was a very promising start! In terms of texture, it's virtually identical to the original Cicaplast Baume. The cream is opaque white but rubs in clear. I think it's strange that the directions say to "avoid lips and eye contour areas" because this is supposedly a product for your face, so why would you do that? I went ahead and applied it all over my face anyway because I'm a loose cannon cop who doesn't play by the rules. It also says it's suitable for adults and children, but not babies. Is the alcohol the problem? As it turns out, the alcohol was indeed the problem, but not the only one. This stuff refused to blend on my lips, leaving an unattractive dry white glaze. What's more, it was also incredibly difficult to blend this into my face because it dried down way too quickly. By the time I finished rubbing it into my forehead, it had already dried on my cheeks. Any attempt to touch those areas again caused major pilling. I'm talking a matter of under 30 seconds from squeezing the cream on my fingers to having it bone-dry on my face. You can see that in the photos–pilling all over my cheeks and redness everywhere else. Usability is seriously an issue here, especially for dry skin. The marketing is actually accurate in that regard – it does absorb super fast and it does not leave a sticky or greasy residue. The problem is that the process happens so quickly that it's too difficult to get a smooth, even layer of product before it's too late and you're stuck with the sunscreen equivalent of dandruff. For a product that's supposed to be soothing and hydrating, it also fails hard in that regard. My skin felt seriously irritated. I felt red bumpy patches on my cheeks in the first half hour; these started to itch not soon after. Later that evening, my cheeks erupted with heat and redness, almost exactly like if I had drunk a glass of red wine while eating Thai curry. (If you know, you know.) If you have rosacea or eczema, this is not your friend. There aren't any long-form or video reviews out there for the SPF 50 version, but the short reviews I could find on third-party sites were fairly consistent. Several people complained of the white cast and of feeling greasy. I didn't personally feel greasy even a little bit, even applying a substantial amount of it on my face. YMMV on this one.Ingredients: INCI DecoderPrice: $9.85 for 40 ml ($0.24 per ml)Photos: Click here(6) OMI - Verdio UV Moisture Gel SPF 50+ PA++++Filters: Titanium Dioxide, Octinoxate, Uvinul A Plus, Uvinul T 150, Tinosorb S(7) OMI - Verdio UV Moisture Essence SPF 50+ PA++++Filters: Octinoxate, Octocrylene, Uvinul A Plus, Tinosorb SThis will be another joint review, covering both products and their differences.Key Facts: Fragrance Free, Alcohol Free, Essential Oil Free, Dye Free, Paraben Free, WaterproofMarketing Claims: Verdio doesn't have an English-language website, so I relied on product descriptions on third-party seller sites. According to the product marketing, both the gel and the essence are waterproof and sweatproof, and protect against "environmental stressors, pollen, and particulate matter (PM) pollution." Both products have several plant-derived antioxidants and anti-inflammatories, including green tea, Chinese skullcap root, moringa, and pearl barley. The gel has more ingredients, but largely the composition is the same. Based on the filters, it looks like the gel might offer better protection, but at the potential cost of white cast from the titanium.I'd like to say a few things about Octocrylene. This is a super-popular sunscreen filter that blocks both UVA and UVB rays. It's included in five sunscreens in this review. According to recent research, this organic compound can penetrate into the skin where it acts as a photosensitizer, which results in an increased production of free radicals. (Source: Free Radical Biology & Medicine) Another study found that Octocrylene degrades into a toxic chemical that is a known carcinogen and endocrine disruptor (benzophenone). (Source: Chemical Research in Toxicology) You can read a more in-depth discussion on this topic in this blog post by Cyrille Laurent. Cyrille comes to the conclusion that the fear-mongering around Octocrylene is overblown and that the ingredient has not been proven unsafe. I think it's worth it to be cautious, but I wouldn't dismiss Octocrylene altogether because it's hard to avoid, especially for U.S. consumers.Impressions: I tried the essence first. It smells like green tea! I drink green tea with ginger every morning and I love the scent. This product does not contain synthetic fragrance, so one can assume that there's a good amount of actual green tea in the product formulation. It's a light green gel-cream that goes on clear instantly with no rubbing required. Like most Japanese sunscreens, it's incredibly cosmetically elegant. I could put on multiple layers with zero fuss. It feels moisturizing and soothing, much more so than the LRP Cicaplast product and comparable to Purito centella sun. It does not do anything to mitigate redness. It's one of the most comfortable sunscreens I tried, in that I didn't mind wearing it all day and slapping more on every couple hours. It didn't dry out my skin or irritate it as I wore it, which is a big plus for me. Also, no pilling!I think this is a pretty good dupe for the Canmake Mermaid Skin Gel UV, but without the tacky skin feel and without the glittery-shimmery effect. It's an excellent base for makeup and didn't move around or separate when I applied concealer and foundation on top. I tested it by using it as a primer for a full face of makeup on a warm, foggy day with 100% humidity and 5+ UV Index. My base stayed put and didn't separate while drinking outdoors at a brewery in the hottest part of the day and taking my mask on/off multiple times.Overall, the Verdio UV Moisture Essence is an excellent, cost-effective option for sensitive skin if you don't mind the light green tea scent and need something that performs well under makeup. Then, I tried the gel another day. I was looking for white cast, as Titanium tends to be problematic. I can't be sure how much of this filter is included in the formulation, so it could feasibly have very little. My first impression was that the name is a misnomer; this isn't a gel at all. It's actually more like a runny milk in texture, much like Skin Aqua Super Moisture Milk (also a combination sunscreen). It has no discernable scent, unlike the essence. It goes on clear right away, which allowed me to apply multiple thin layers right off the bat. No white cast!It was lightly moisturizing, did not irritate active eczema, and left a glossy film on my skin. Over the first hour, my skin did become less shiny but did not become all the way matte. However, at the same time, it started to ball up on the baby hairs on my neck and around my hairline. I don't think it was visible to other people but I could feel the little clumps of product and it bothered me. This is probably not the best for people with facial hair. The best part about this product is that it's CHEAP and comes in a larger bottle than the standard Japanese sunscreen.Head to head, I would recommend the essence over the gel as it's more cosmetically elegant and it wears better over time. However, both are very good options if you have sensitive skin.In this video by Raw Tin Skin, he compares both of the products in a side-by-side, head-to-head review. He also had a tough time discerning the difference between them, so the video includes a full ingredient breakdown.Ingredients: INCI Decoder for GELPrice: GEL is $13.90 for 80 ml ($0.17 per ml) and ESSENCE is $10.90 for 50 ml ($0.21 per ml)Photos: Verdio Essence and Verdio Gel(8) Bioderma Photoderm Max Milk SPF 50+ PPD 42Filters: Octocrylene, Tinosorb M, Avobenzone, Tinosorb SKey Facts: Fragrance Free, Alcohol Free, Essential Oil Free, Paraben FreeMarketing Claims: Bioderma's Photoderm Max line is top-shelf in terms of UVA protection. It offers spectacular broad-spectrum protection by (jargon incoming) "erecting a double barrier to encourage its immunity against the sun: the best of external protection as well as unique, patented and laboratory-tested Cellular Bioprotection." I'm assuming that the "double barrier" in this sense is the base of chemical filters (Octocrylene, Avobenzone), followed by a second layer of next-generation hybrid filters (Tinosorb M, Tinosorb S). Octocrylene and Tinosorb S are present to stabilize the Avobenzone, which is unreliable on its own. The brand also boasts about a "patented prebiotic complex" but I wasn't able to determine what exactly that is.Impressions: I really, really wanted to like this stuff. I bought it last summer before going on a beach trip because I wanted the highest-possible UVA protection. In that regard, it's awesome, with a fantastic PPD rating and excellent combination of filters. (I believe the P20 Kids sunscreen actually has a higher PPD rating with 50+.)And now for the bad: It's impossible to make this stuff work for me. It refuses to blend on my skin, so it looks like I have grey-white patches all over. It also burns the living hell out of my eyes, to the point where I cry when I apply it. Even worse, it doesn't set after 20-30 minutes, so every time something brushed my face it came back streaked with white. In the photos, it looks okay in natural light with cloud cover (which mutes and softens the light) but horrible in direct light from my bathroom vanity or sunlight through a window. The only way I could use this is to apply it as a second layer, above a thinner and more cosmetically elegant sunscreen (Purito, before I knew it was inadequate). I used this as a topper, patting it carefully on the highest points of my face and my shoulders before going out into the sun. In that regard, it was fine. I might not have applied enough to make a difference, but I felt more protected. I think this is the end of the road for my relationship with Bioderma sunscreens. They just don't vibe with me.Before discounting this product entirely, you should read this review by Lab Muffin, which compares it to La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-In Cream (EU).
