[Personal] I saw a post on this subreddit 2 weeks ago about how important it is to get annual skin checks at the dermatologist. I decided to get one and I found out one of my moles is an early form of melanoma.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I saw this post made by the wonderful /u/I_dont_mind_KimK and decided, what the hell, why not. I have insurance and would only have to pay a $15 co-pay to get a skin check. I had never had one done before. There was also a mole on the back of my shoulder that I couldn’t remember if it had always been that dark or not so may as well get it checked out. They performed a biopsy during that appointment and I got the results back today. That mole ended up being a very early low form of melanoma. I’m going to have a melanoma excision performed on Friday and will have to get skin checks every 6 months and keep an eye out for any new spots.I am not somebody who enjoys spending a lot of time in the sun and I never have been. It makes me sweat and feel hot. However whenever I was in the sun I also never wore sunscreen on my body because I could never find one that didn’t feel greasy (I did eventually find one with Neutrogena’s Beach Defense sunscreen lotion and I highly recommend it). I also had a pretty gnarly farmer’s tan and I wanted to even it out and sunscreen would counteract that. I was always good about applying sunscreen to my face (I love Olay’s sensitive skin spf 30 moisturizer and, yes, I make sure to apply ¼ teaspoon!) but I neglected my body. So somebody that never really spent an extensive amount of time in the sun regularly still ended up with a bad mole.If I had never seen that post then I would have never bothered to get my skin checked until it was probably too late. I never thought a Reddit post would potentially save my life but I’ll take it. Thank you /r/SkincareAddiction!TLDR: Seriously, wear your sunscreen on your face AND your body. Get regular skin checks at your dermatologist too!

[Misc] Neem Oil - Ingredient Breakdown of a Stank that Keeps on Giving
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Neem oil is a product I really, truly love (hence my flair, haha). It gave me honest to god clear skin for the first time in my life when I started using it. And it started my love-affair with this subreddit. But I didn’t really know a lot about it. Or if the claims of its efficacy were based in reality (or if I had placebo-effected my way to clearer skin). So this past week, I sat down and really researched neem oil. And with my digging and searching, I wrote up this ingredient breakdown. I hope you all enjoy and learn something interesting. :DTo start, there was no way to format this easily with reddit’s post code, so I took a screenshot of a neem oil breakdown chart I created. Here you’ll find the scent, color, shelf life, fatty acid breakdown and more of neem oil. If you find this difficult to read/use, please feel free to use/look at the one posted on my blog. That one was easy to code. ^__^History of NeemNeem has been an indispensible part of Indian life for centuries. The latin name for the neem tree, Azadirachta indica, comes from the Persian name Azad dirakht i – Hind and means “the free tree of India.” The word neem itself is derived from Sanskrit Nimba which means ‘bestower of good health’. This is due to the tremendous medicinal benefits of the tree-- either from its bark, leaves, or oil.Siddha medicine is one of the oldest medical systems known to mankind and is believed to be over 10,000 years old. In this traditional medicine system, all parts of the neem tree have been used to fight various ailments with the first recorded documentation of neem’s use appearing roughly 4,500 years ago. Throughout this time, neem has remained a staple of medicinal treatment in Indian culture. At the start of the century, neem plants maintained their prestige within the community. As a result, as Indian immigrants began to settle in new areas, they took neem trees with them and planted them in their newly founded communities. Due to the neem tree’s ability to grow quickly, they began to rapidly spread and can now be found spanning from the Indian subcontinent to Asia, Africa, and South America.Today, research on the medicinal properties of neem have increased massively. And the neem tree plays a large role in various agricultural industries in Senegal, Haiti, Saudi Arabia, Ghana, and more.Benefits of Neem oilTopically, neem oil: is antibacterial, can provide relief from eczema lesions, inhibits inflammation, stimulates wound healing, is antimicrobial and antifungal, and restores and conditions skin.Neem oil is a fantastic product for troubled skin, specifically acne. Its antibacterial properties allow for powerful, yet gentle acne prevention while its anti-inflammatory properties work to minimize current acne spots and skin irritation. The high percentage of fatty acids creates an environment that promotes wound healing and improves skin’s natural moisture barrier-- an important quality for those with skin trouble/acne as a compromised moisture barrier creates a hostile environment for skin health. Finally, emollient properties inherent to oils condition the skin: neem oil’s thicker viscosity greatly decreases skin roughness, creating smooth and supple skin.Neem oil also improves psoriasis patches and rosacea thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties. Some research also notes that neem oil is effective against viral concerns like herpes outbreaks or fungal concerns like ringworm [but see a doctor to properly treat these conditions].In hair care, neem oil based shampoos have been successful in eradicating head lice and treating dandruff. Using neem oil neat on hair as a leave-in is something I’d advise against though- it smells horrendous and it’s not capable of penetrating into the hair. However, using it as a scalp oil treatment before shampooing can improve overall scalp health [reducing itching, acne, irritation, and so on].As an interesting side note, it was found that intravaginal application of neem oil prior to coitus can prevent pregnancy. Some research also indicates that neem oil works to combat sexually transmitted diseases. But I super, ultra, mega-mega do not under any circumstances recommend putting neem oil neat inside your vagina. Love yourself, honey. Just use condoms.Products containing Neem-Alaffia - Skin Recovery Facial Toner Neem and Shea-Auromere - Ayurvedic Neem Plus 5 Shampoo-Neem Aura - Neem Skin Salve-Organix South TheraNeem - Naturals Neem Cream Orange & Ylang Ylang-Organix South TheraNeem - Neem Leaf & Aloe GelWhere you can buy pure neem oil-New Directions Aromatics [my personal favorite supplier]-Garden of Wisdom-Mountain Rose Herbs-If you’re looking to buy in store, you should also be able to find neem oil at your local crunchy hippie grocery store [like Whole Foods or Sprouts].Sources

[Misc] What's your Body Care Routine?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello! So, I'm relatively new to the sub, and I know there's a lot of emphasis on facial skincare (ya'll got me to wear sunscreen). I also noticed that there's not a lot on body skincare, and I was thinking maybe we could get a tiny little thread going? Maybe include what you're routine is, why that product, and etc. Basically what you would list in your facial routine. That way some people can get an idea of how to incorporate a body routine! I tried looking through the subreddit, and I didn't find much.

[Product Question] A product better than Retin-A for anti aging?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello,I have recently bought my first retinol cream and was thinking of going to my dermatologist as soon as I finish it to get a prescription of Retin-A. However, I've been doing some reading and it seems like retinol is very harmful to the epidermis and prolonged use can cause broken capillaries (DON'T WANT THAT!)I read a little bit about a different active ingredient called Retinaldehyde which a few articles claim is just as effective as tretinoin but much less irritating.Does anyone have any experience with Retinaldehyde products? Or any thoughts about this topic?Thank you

[Skin Concerns] I think I have annihilated my moisture barrier. Seeking suggestions on rebuilding.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
VERY LONG - TL;DR at the bottom - Thanks!Hi,I'm a male in my mid-twenties that started battling with acne in my last year of high school (2009) and have continued to struggle with it to this day. For the first 4-5 years, I used over the counter products until finally having the courage to visit a doctor. I was prescribed minocycline, phisoHex (an anti-bacterial cleanser), and Benzaclin (clindamycin + benzoyl peroxide topical at night). After a few months of using the minocycline and the phisohex, my cystic acne subsided and I began to solely use Benzaclin religiously. For the first two years of using only Benzaclin, I had limited acne and oily skin. For these two years, my acne didn't bother me so much as my oily skin. After a shower or washing my face, my skin would look clean for about 3 hours and then as the oil collected on my face, it seemingly aggravated my acne (making my face look red and agitated). To deal with this, I would frequently rinse the "grease" off my face under a sink throughout the day (using water only), sometimes up to 3-4 times a day.Near the end of these two years on Benzaclin only, and rinsing my face under a tap regularly, I noticed my face was better than it had ever been. Even my oily skin wasn't aggravating my face as much (even though my face still always looked much better after having recently rinsed it), and I decided to stop using Benzaclin. For the first time in about 6 years, I was using nothing but water on my face. About 2 months after stopping, some small closed comedones reappeared, and shortly after that I began getting cysts again. I immediately went back onto minocycline and Benzaclin. A 3-month course of minocycline again, seemingly took the cystic acne away. Which brings me to today.I've been back on Benzaclin for about 7 months now, and despite having minimal acne, my face looks absolutely horrid (I've seriously never seen skin even remotely close to as bad as mine is now; at this point, it looks more like some alien skin substitute than actual human skin). In my panic, and in my attempt to quickly get back to how good my skin was, I have likely overused Benzaclin. Because Benzaclin dries out the skin and causes it to peel, I sometimes used it morning and night in an attempt to quickly get rid of clogged pores/acne. As a result, I believe I have completely destroyed my 'moisture barrier'. At certain points in time, raising my eyebrows would crack and crease my forehead, rather than ripple it. During this time, I would be peeling off my entire face almost every other night in the shower. The outer layer of my skin would disintegrate if it was wet and I merely brushed it with my hand.In addition to overusing Benzaclin, my oil problem continues. Right after washing, my face looks best. But as the oil production starts, it makes my dehydrated, cracking, scaly looking skin look that much worse and it makes it hard not to go back to old habits of rinsing my face (which obviously further robs my skin of moisture).Having read a bunch of information here about restoring the moisture barrier, I realize the most likely solution is to make a moisturizer my face's best-friend day-in and day-out for the foreseeable future. The problem I have with this is, whenever I use a moisturizer throughout the day, the moisturizer and my oily skin combine and makes it look like I'm sweating slime (on top of the oil aggravating and reddening my acne). But maybe this is just a necessary evil I must endure? Or might it be possible to moisturize only at night to slowly rebuild the barrier?Anyways, I'm looking for any and all advice. I feel as though I could be happy with the limited amount of acne I have, if I could just make my skin look like ACTUAL skin. As of now I'm still using Benzaclin at night and my dermatologist has suggested that it is possible that the Benzaclin is no longer working as effectively as it was when it cleared me up earlier and has prescribed a Retin-A gel, 0.025% (i.e. more moisture barrier destruction). I'd especially love to hear from anyone with a similar history of annihilating their moisture barrier due to being reliant on prescription medication to stave off acne.Thank you for your time!TL;DR I believe I have effectively destroyed any and all remnants of my moisture barrier after 5+ years of prescription acne medication use (mostly Benzaclin) and over-washing. The logical thing for me to do would be to begin using a moisturizer 24/7, but my oily skin makes using a moisturizer throughout the day a struggle. Having my face look like it is sweating slime after a few hours of oil mixing with moisturizer is about as appealing as having my face look like the concrete it does without moisturizer. I'm looking for any advice on how to rebuild a moisture barrier while continuing to use prescription acne medication at night, but while also not having my face look like a sopping mess during the day (if even possible). I feel as though I could be happy with the limited amount of acne I currently have, if it weren't for my skin looking so abnormal (presumably because of dehydration).

[Sun Care] Sunscreen Reviews: MD SolarSciences, Glossier, Neogen, Neutrogena, Drunk Elephant
Beauty Tips For Body Care
For the past couple of weeks, I've been trying new sunscreens as summer rolls in, so I thought I would share some reviews of the ones I've tried. For reference, I have dehydrated, acne-prone and sensitive skin. I use Epiduo at night, and the rest of my routine in Glossier Milky Jelly and Vanicream Skin Cream. I rarely wear makeup, and I have a fair bit of PIH. Its' just too hot where I am to wear makeup, it just melts off my face. I also have medium toned olive skin (I don't know my MAC shade or anything) but most suncreens leave a white cast on me.Reviews:1) MDSolarSciences Mineral Tinted Crème Broad Spectrum SPF 30SPF: 30 Active Ingredients: Titanium Dioxide 2%, Zinc Oxide 17%I used this sunscreen for a really long time before I realized it was the cause of the bumps on my forehead. It is super silicone-y and so it soaked up all the oil on my face. However, it also highlighted every flake. The tint was better than a white cast, but was really obviously not the same colour as my skin- it washed me out a lot. It also just sort of sits on top of your skin, so the colour rubs off on EVERYTHING. I don't use this daily anymore, but keep it around for days when I know I'll be out a lot, like at the beach, because its waterproof and stays on well. If your skin likes silicones, I'd highly recommend checking this out.2) Glossier Invisible ShieldSPF: 35 Active Ingredients: Avobenzone 3%, Homosalate 6%, Octisalate 5%This sunscreen was such a no for me for so many reasons. The good is that it leaves no white cast. That is about all the good. I don't care about the essential oils, or that its chemical- it just didn't work. If you use the recommended amount (1/4 a TSP) then your face is literally so shiny its out of control. Not good dewy- shiny. It also broke me out, really badly. If your skin isn't reactive, or you have darker skin so you need something that will leave NO white cast, this might work for you.3) Neogen Dermalogy Day-Light Protection Sunscreen SPF 50 PA+++SPF: 50Active Ingredients: Titanium Dioxide 0.90%, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate 7.50%, Zinc Oxide 2.80%(I already posted this review, and I'm just copying and pasting it from another post): While the formula is essential oil heavy, and probably won't work for everyone, it has worked for me. I have acne-prone, dry skin with acne-marks, and I'm super sensitive to a lot of ingredients. This sunscreen has never given me a problem in terms of stinging or burning. Most important to me, however, is the fact that there is NO white cast. I have tan skin, and usually if a sunscreen with physical components is not tinted, it leaves a gross grey/white-ish tinge behind. This sunscreen does not, it blends in evenly and leaves my skin dewy, not greasy. I wear it in hot Southern sun, and it protects me and doesn't melt off, which is super important. I've re-purchased many times, and will continue to.4) Neutrogena Pure & Free Liquid Sunscreen Protection Broad Spectrum Spf 50SPF: 50Active Ingredients: Titanium dioxide 5% (sunscreen)Zinc oxide 3% (sunscreen)This sunscreen leaves a really bad white cast. It also smells really weird- its fragrance-free so maybe I just don't know what mineral sunscreens should smell like. It didn't work well for my skin, just felt greasy and the smell did not go away. It didn't break me out or burn, and it stuck to me despite sweating a lot, so it does its job. If your skin isn't fazed by white-casts, and is sensitive, I would recommend trying it out! It's also a lot cheaper than the other ones I've reviewed.5) Umbra Tinte™ Physical Daily DefenseSPF: 30Active Ingredients: Zinc Oxide 20%Honestly, this is the worst sunscreen I have ever used. I would probably re-use the other sunscreens mentioned here for different occasions, but this was just a disaster for me. I don't know what it was, maybe all the oils, but my skin hated it. First off, it smells so weird. I don't even know how to explain it- but its just bad. The texture is nice, and rubs in well, so you don't notice the colour, but it is also glittery, so it makes your face shiny AND sparkle. Not a good look. It rubs on everything and just didn't sit right on my face. It also gave me s huge breakout. I really recommend patch testing this one before using, and getting a sample.I'm going to keep using the Neogen sunscreen on the daily, with the MD SolarSciences on deck for when I go out in the sun for longer periods of time, as Neogen isn't water proof I don't think. Overall, your results will vary but I wanted to get out my experience. Feel free to ask any questions about any of these sunscreens!

[Review] the ordinary's Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% is a mattifying angel sent down from heaven
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been looking for something that would help me with oily skin and enlarged pores for a couple years now. I've tried mattifying BB creams from indie brands to Murad and primers and matte foundations and no matter what I'd be totally oily within a couple hours of my foundation wear. For glasses wearers, you know this also means serious product build up under the bridge of your frames. Thanks to skincareaddiction I discovered the ordinary and tried out the Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% product! It's only been maybe 3 days of use but I'm 6+ hours into my day and my skin is only a wee bit shiny. It's a big win!! I'm suuuuper pumped that I found a cheap product that works so well, so if any of you also have a similar skin issue and haven't tried it yet, give it a go!!

Please help. All I want is to get rid of my strawberry legs! [skin concerns]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm so fed up. I literally squeezed one dot and a hair came out. I have tons of these on my legs and I don't know what to do. Is exfoliation really the only way to tackle this? I don't shave anymore and wear long clothing. There will be no summer for me :(

[Personal] I'm a male with an acne outbreak within the last year and my mother has gone on a tirade against me because I'm trying to keep up with my skincare
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Within the last year I've broken out with adult hormonal acne and while it isn't too bad I have been self conscious about it so I've been trying really hard to keep up with a routine and take care of my skin. Just recently, and specifically just now, my mom just absolutely went bonkers on me.She starts off by asking why have I been using so many products on my face and that people will talk about me and say things behind my back because I'm a man but I am using products like a woman. I tell her it really doesn't bother me what others think of me because I'm doing this for myself and I want to take care of my skin. She then get's absolutely furious that I would even talk back against her with my own opinion and calls me a fag, I'm gay, and a woman. And how my family and friends will talk behind my back and call me names. She tells me to look at myself and ask if I know any other man uses products like I do. Things like moisturizer, sunscreen, benzoyl peroxide, etc. She says what if I had a girlfriend and I used more products on my face than her and I'm supposed to be a man. How if I'm going to look like that then I might as well wear makeup like a woman. For me, I would have appreciated it if she had voiced this as some kind of concern for me but she was literally screaming at the top of her lungs, fuming furious, and calling me unnecessary names. And a side note is that none of this is about money or cost. I don't spend much at all for the products I'm using and everything comes out of my own pocket. This really hit hard for me as a guy because, any confidence I had gained from taking care of my skin has gone down the sink. I now feel self conscious if I don't keep up with my skincare, but also if I do take care of it. I'm at a crossroads and I'm not sure what to think about it or why my mom had lashed out at me. Thanks for listening to my concerns.TLDR; My mom lashes out at me for taking care of my skin and accuses me of being a woman and now I'm self conscious about my skincare.

[Miscellaneous] Would a 2% BHA Cleanser be better than a gentle cleanser at removing sunscreen?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I see posts and articles recommending oil cleansing to remove sunscreen because the "like dissolves like" principle. Since BHA's breakdown oils as well then would a BHA Cleanser work just as well as an oil cleanser?

[Product Question] BHA before AHA peel?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Would it be more sensible to do a BHA peel before an AHA? Like won't the AHA for fading marks be useless if your skin purges from the BHA (if you do the BHA peel after) and cause more PIH anywayThe thing is I am more tolerant to AHA so I did the fade peel first... I've been using the cosrx BHA and I don't think it made my skin resilient enough. Should I hold off on the AHA peels until I build more tolerance to BHA? (Just bought PC BHA liquid)Thanks in advance...

[skin concerns] sunscreen broke me out and irritated my skin
Beauty Tips For Body Care
i used elta md uv clear spf 46 on my face for 3 days but it broke me out. also my skin hated it, the sunscreen was irritating and very itchy. the sunscreen felt pretty weird on my face and it leaved a white cast behind. (i've read it's supposed to not leave a white cast behind.) after washing my face it still left a little bit of a white cast behind. it was very weird. i bought it from a well respected ebay seller. did i receive a fake bottle? or if the bottle was real, could it have contain ingredients that my face wouldn't like? for the people that dont remember my skin condition: i overexfoliated my skin with too many chemical peels, IPL treatments and co2 laser treatment. my skin is full of redness, pih and chemical peel burn on cheeks that happened almost 6 months ago. this is the sunscreen i bought: https://eltamd.com/product/uv-clear-broad-spectrum-spf-46/

More [Meta], more comments (aka ScA survey discussion here!)
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey all!Our ScA survey has come to an end. We had a LOT of responses- 810! That’s so much more than I ever expected. Thank you so much to everyone who participated.Given we have just closed the survey, we haven’t had a chance to analyze anything quite yet. Just seeing a quick overview of how people feel about different topics has been very eye opening, however. We’re discussing them now and coming up with ideas on how to address the things people are most concerned with. We will post the results and our conclusions next week at the latest. So! If no results, then why are we posting this? Well, now that the survey is over, this is your opportunity to discuss it to your heart’s content. Were there things you wish we had asked? Are there sub issues you think need hashing out here? Comment whatever you want! And this goes for everyone- if you didn’t have the chance to answer the survey, you can absolutely still discuss things there. When implementing changes in the coming weeks, we will be considering both the survey results and this discussion. The mod team will be in the comments actively discussing along with you; your concerns are being heard.

[Misc] Guys, I am having a really bad day regarding my skin, both physically and emotionally. How do I deal?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I need advice on how to deal with the emotional side of having bad skin. I feel depressed.I have had chronic acne for the past ten years. It has never been too terrible: maybe moderate acne shifting towards severe during some of my teen years. But now, even in my twenties, I still have acne and the build up of enlarged pores/scars and hyper pigmentation makes my skin just look so bad.I'm sure many of you understand the emotional toll bad skin can take. It makes me feel unclean even after I washed my face. Often, I feel insecure when talking to people on a bad day. I notice when their eyes glance towards a pimple. Sometimes if I have acne on my back or shoulders, I won't wear tank tops or dresses because I don't want to show my skin. The difference in how men treat me on a day when my skin is clearer versus when is really broken out is shocking. Men approach me and flirt when I have clear skin, but I get ignored on days when I had a bad break out. People in general treat me far better when I have clear(ish) skin.Guys, I just need some encouragement and advice here. How do I get over this? I get sad whenever I not someone with very nice skin, they look so clean and beautiful. I keep trying for perfect skin, but I feel like it's never going to happen and I just can't handle that right now.

[Skin Concerns] Male, 19, Arizona. I've had bangs all my life and forehead acne because of it. I need advice on what to do with my hair and skin
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyoneI've been a lurker for a long time and noticed this subreddit. For a while I always thought my acne would eventually go away but it hasnt and is becoming a problem. Since 15 I started getting acne under my bangs and instead of cutting them and doing something I stuck with it and dug myself into a hole. I feel like my bangs are probably responsible for how its gotten but I keep them to cover up my forehead. I went to a dermatologist and was recommended benzoyl peroxide day and night. I was never told how to routine so all I do now is use a clean and clear 10% benzoyl peroxide facial cleanser twice a day after washing my face, and wrap my hear in a band before I sleep and I'm not sure its working. My skin type is oily I think but not 100% sure, it gets dry easily after the cleanser.http://imgur.com/a/OCGcuYou can find photos of my forehead with different lighting. I used to pick at my forehead a lot when I was younger, I've since stopped but I'm not sure how to stop the breakouts and clear out the existing acne and scars.Any advice/suggestion is much appreciated, thank you for reading.

[B&A] Three weeks on Tretinoin and a consistent routine, coupled with no picking and minimal makeup have done wonders.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello all! When I turned 19, I got a bout of hormonal acne that turned into a severe addiction to picking my skin. I'm not exaggerating when I say I would spend 8 hours in a row picking, sometimes foregoing sleep to pick. For a long time I struggled with my skin, and recently I got a prescription for Tretinoin 0.025% gel, along with Doxycycline tablets and I just wanted to share my success! I have a LONG way to go, but I'm so happy that I don't have to hide inside anymore. My routine is as follows: AM: wash face with Neutrogena gentle foaming daily cleanser>moisturize with SebaMed clear face care gel>apply makeup if neededPM: wash with same cleanser as AM, wait 30 min, apply Tretinoin gel.Literally my entire routine is 4 steps, and it's changed my life. If anyone is debating seeing a dermatologist, I strongly encourage you, and I hope these pictures give you hope!My progress

[Misc] What's your favorite BHA that you never see mentioned here?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey guys! I’ve been trying to find a better BHA, but I feel like SCA has like five favorites and none of them work well for me. I’ve tried:Stridex in the red box - did nothingPaula’s Choice BHAs - I don’t know what’s in this, but it made my face suuuuuuper red, dry, and scaly. Hard Pass!!Peter Thomas Roth AHA/BHA - I loved this one! But it’s expensive and I don’t want to use AHA over the summer (I’m terrible at sunscreen)CosRx BHA - currently using this one. It works okaaaay, but not greatI’ve looked at the HG list and the routine help, and it seems like these are all people ever suggest! I know there’s gotta be more good BHAs out there! What do you use?

[Misc] Anyone have difficulty convincing friends/family/partners to wear SPF?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Yesterday, I went to a baseball game and sat in the bleachers. The sun was kicking. I wore a baseball hat, huge sun glasses and a thick-strapped tank- top. I also slathered on SPF 50 before leaving and I was good.My boyfriend,on the other hand, wore nothing --even after I tried telling him he would burn. Today, he's as red as a tomato and besides that's it's not healthy for him, it's turning me off. He works outside as well and his face has lots of wrinkles and sun damage already. It's a shame and I don't want him to develop skin cancer.I realized I have this same problem with my brother and my brother-in-law. They refuse to wear sunscreen! They don't really give an explanation as to why either. And usually act annoyed when I mention the benefits or offer them a bottle of sunscreen. How to I convince my BF and my brothers to wear SPF daily without annoying them? Has anyone else ever had to approach this topic and how did it go?

[Acne] Cystic acne is draining my confidence
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I never had any problems with my skin until I was in my mid twenties. Out of nowhere one day a lump erupted on my forehead and grew to the size of a 10p piece. It stayed there for eight months (knocking my confidence each day, it was literally like a third eye) until it was, finally, surgically removed. This it seems started a chain of events for my skin.I don't get conventional spots anymore, just whiteheads it seems. Applying pressure or squeezing any part of my face brings white dots to the surface, it seems like every pore on my face is clogged. At first it was only every few months, but now every few weeks I feel a pain somewhere on my face and within 24 hours a large painful lump develops. These stay for weeks, sometimes months. They are huge, about the size of a 5p with swelling to boot. Occasionally they will burst expelling a shocking amount of disgustingness, sometimes they just subside and remain as hard masses under the skin. Either way they scar, terribly. Deep boxcar type scars. Today I have woken up with one along my left eye socket. Before I go into the treatments I've tried, I do wear make up. Yes I'm aware this doesn't help, but I have crippling anxieties about my appearance which have been there since early adolescents. I haven't left the house without make up in over 20 years, and I feel deeply uncomfortable even sitting around my mother or husband completely bare faced. However I do cleanse and wash my face every morning and evening, I've altered the make up I use to eliminate as much pore clogging and excess oil as I can and I use clay face masks twice a week. I ensure all the products I use contain salycilic acid and I try to stay away from moisturisers. My doctor, for a long time, prescribed fluclolaxcillin when I had eruptions but I don't think this works anymore. I've used duac gel which I think reduces the swelling but doesn't eliminate the problem. More recently I was prescribed tablets (I can't remember the name?? Ly.... hard something..). Within a few days of taking them my back and torso erupted with small hard lumps (spots? Whiteheads??) and I have never suffered with these areas before. It did little for the problems in my face, I thought, and just made my skin feel rubbery or waxy. I stopped after the first six weeks, and the skin on my back and torso are returning to normal. I've tried hydrocolloid bandages with varying success. I had two simultaneous eruptions: one on my jaw, one on my cheek. After using, duac, the capsules and warm compresses for over two months on them, I used the hydrocolloid bandages. The cyst(?) on my jawline came to a head and drained within 24 hours, the one on my cheek is still there but under the skin. I'm at my wits end. Already the lump I woke up with has swollen, the underneath of my eye is all puffy and I can see it in my line of sight. I don't have money for a dermatologist (these are hard to come by in the uk unless referred to by a gp where you have to wait months, or pay privately) and I've exhausted every home remedy I can.PLEASE can someone offer some advice, my confidence is running on empty.

[Routine Help] Is trying to dry my oily nose only making it worse?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
[First time poster, please be gentle with me. Will be happy to edit if I violated some rules.]I have combination type skin with an oily T-zone and normal remaining bits. When it comes to my forehead things aren't that bad - not until you look at my nose. It glimmers with joy (apparently) every time I glance in the mirror.Couple of months ago I started experimenting with skin routines in order to rid myself of this problem. Here's what I do now:MorningCleanse with normalising cleansing gel for combo skinApply matyfing corrective day cream on the T-zoneApply soothing corrective day cream on the restApply regular foundation and powderThroughout the dayUse a bunch of blotting paper on the T-zoneEveningRemove make-up with a two-phase make-up removerCleanse with micellar cleansing waterApply regenerating corrective night cream on the whole faceOnce a weekUse corrective mask for combo skin[Not sure if I should include more info about the products, most of them are unavailable outside of my country]Lately I found myself having to use more and more blotting paper. Is it possible that by focusing on my nose I'm over-drying my skin and it produces more and more oil? Or on the contrary - maybe I'm not focusing enough?I feel like overcoming this problem would allow me to go foundation-free on daily basis and at the same time I am aware that the foundation/powder combo quite possibly cotribute to the problem (it's kind of a vicious circle right now).Edit - formatting

[Misc] This may sound stupid but make every effort possible to up your Water intake.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I might get blasted or down voted for this, but I just wanted to share my personal experience. For the past month I have made a dedicated effort to drink 3L of Water a day. I feel like 2L is enough but as a college student who plays sports and lifts 3L of water has helped out my skin tremendously. My skin looks brighter, my lips are softer, and my dark circles eye/bags are no where near as bad as they usually are. (They are still there though)Of course I have a routine thanks to SCA which has kept me acne free with only PIH to deal with. But I'm extremely confident in my skin now and Water has been a huge supplemental factor!YMMV, but try it out for one month and be dedicated. Stick to your routine and include drinking enough water as part of it!An app that helped me with this is Water Drink Reminder on Android. It gets hella annoying with notifications but it has kept me disciplined.

[Skin Concerns] After avoiding self care for nearly 2 years, how can I best help my poor skin?!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey Skincare Enthusiasts!I'll keep the intro short - 25/male, just came out of a deep two year depression, during which I definitely fell behind the ball in terms of self care and making sure I took care of my body, and now that I'm finally past it, I'm trying to fix one thing at a time - especially my skin - which has seemed to have taken a beating during this period.[P.S - Sorry for including the depression part (and I'm uphill now so no worries!!!), but I felt that conveyed the nature of the lack of care and approach to personal hygiene and taking care of myself]So I'm turning to you all for your advice and suggestions on how to get back to having a 10/10 (or at least close) for skin quality and care, especially for the face, but including the rest of my body. Definitely have to say that both the lack of care towards myself and my skin, and the age factor have both come into play in the last two years. My skin during my teens and young adolescence has always been pretty healthy (both thanks to my genetics and care), but it seems obvious that now age is playing a factor and I have to be more careful and respectful of it.Here are some of the skin issues that I want to treat and approach in the best way possible!FaceAlthough my face has always been pretty good in terms of issues with acne and pimples, it seems to have become rough and more prone to marks and scars from pimples etc.I have a very decent beard growth, and even though I don't clean shave, I do try and keep my lines clean and where I shave (even though I use a decent shave oil and have made sure I soak my face in a hot tower prior to shaving), there seems to always be some sort of ongoing rash or acne due to shaving.Any areas of pimples, cuts or acne that appears ends up taking longer to heal than usual, and more often than not, results in some sort of blemish or scar and in the least, leaves a red rash that takes a couple of days to go away. Also due to the depression (and comorbid heavy anxiety), I spent a good year with a heavy cold sweat and panic sweats especially on my forehead, which meant that I avoided using my usual moisturiser as it just seemed to block my pores and make my skin oily (and very shiny). Although the sweats have reduced significantly, there still seems to be a heavy oily presence on my forehead and nose especially after waking up or prior to going out.BodyFrom what I can remember, my skin has always been pretty good, even though I am very hirsute. I started to try and keep the hair groomed through shaving, waxing and hair removal, though I stopped this during the dark period.I'm now trying to continue this with the aim of getting permanent hair removal (in the next year or two), but using hair removal cream or shaving now results in a heavy shaving rash and increased itchiness. It also seems like my skins seems very dry a lot of the time, especially in areas that under a high level of friction. Using anti-perspirant that acts as a sweat blocker has resulted in a level of uncomfortable reactions and itchiness. What could I do to reduce this?It also seems like there's a regular occurrence of possible in grown hairs and just pimples and rashes (small amounts) but regularly occurring and slow to heal, all across my body especially on my thighs, back and shoulders. A lot of marks from past irritations, pimples and cuts seem to take a very long time heal and a lot of them have left a dark patch of skin left.I can post photos if that makes identifying the best way to address these skin issues easier to understand and adviseBut apart from that any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!Take care y'all.

Much ado about nothing: over-rated skincare ingredients [Miscellaneous]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
What do you think is the most over-hyped/over-rated skincare ingredient? For me, it's topical collagen. I don't believe that there's been any research showing a benefit to topical collagen....and yet it seems to be a heavily used ingredient in many anti-aging creams. What about you?

[Product Question] What The Ordinary products should I get for closed comedones and uneven skin tone?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I suffer from closed comedones on my forehead, beside my nose and on my chin. As well as that I have redness and uneven texture on parts of my face and enlarged pores on my nose. I'm interested in using products from The Ordinary and I've already done a bit of research into them and I'm hoping for some advice and personal anecdotes.Previous products I've used are Paula's Choice 2% BHA and Nip + Fab Extreme Glycolic Fix wipes. My routine as of now is just the basic routine in the sidebar, cleanse moisturise spf in the morning and cleanse exfoliate moisturise at night, using Nip + Fab pads.

[Product Question] ***Best European sunscreen that doesn't sting the eyes and has the highest level of sun protection?***
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I live in the united States and use sunscreen all the time but was made aware of the superiority of European sunscreen. Can you all please give me suggestions on european suncreens that won't burn my eyes? -------PLEASE INCLUDE LINKS WHERE I CAN PURCHASE EACH SUNSCREEN, THANK YOU-------- :-DI also saw some info on Japanese sunscreens but I don't know much about those either.I don't wear make up so the consistency of the sunscreen isn't an issue for me.As far as white tint from sunscreen, I'm dark nor pale so not sure how that would work for me. I want to avoid having a white face like a clown lol. So if it looks like I painted my face to go be a clown I probably won't want to wear that sunscreen (unless the white fades or something)I patiently await your suggestions!

[Product Question] How should I determine if I am sensitive to fatty alcohols in Cerave?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I struggle with acne and CC's. In general my skin is dry and doesn't produce a lot of oil. I've been using Cerave PM and Cerave in a tub for a while now. I've read some people say that it breaks them out so I've switched to Nivea creme and saw more pimples arise than usual. But I don't know if this is a Nivea creme problem or if it is a environmental/stress induced. It's hard to determine what is giving me acne and CC's when I've had them for so long.Thank you for your helpRoutine AM: Wash with water and konjac sponge Cerave PM or sometimes Cerave in a tub depending on how dry I am La Roche Antihelios 50 SPF tinted sunscreen liquidRoutine PM: Cerave moisturizing cleanser Paula's choice BHA 2% The ordinary lactic acid + HA 10% Cerave in a tub Vaseline

[Personal] Skin is VERY dry after oil cleansing, is this normal?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello everyone,I've started oil cleansing recently and what I do is just massage the oil onto my face and wipe it away with a wet/rung-out microfibre cloth. When I do this I feel like the cloth removes every single thing off my face, leaving it extremely dry. Is this normal? I haven't broken out from it or experienced any negative side effects but I just find it odd because I've read that your skin should feel moisturized after oil cleansing.Thank you

[Routine Help] Currently in the most humid place in the world for the next 5 months, my skin hates it...
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I lived in Alaska where it was dry for 6 years and everything was fine. I used Acne Free and some Retinol Moisturizer and my skin was great. I moved to South Carolina and I had a few breakouts from the humidity, but got it under control. Switched my routine to Cerave, Stridex red box and 10% benzoyl peroxide at night, along with some SPF 50 for the day.I deployed recently to a country that is humid as hell. Like 100% humidity with 110°F weather. I'll be here for a few more months. I'm not breaking out bad, but my jaw line is flaring up (dude here) and I get random bumps on my cheeks and nose.I use the same stuff. But since I work 12 hour days here, I don't really get to NOT be oily and sweaty. Ordered some Acne Free again to see if it'll help but I think there is no winning against this humidity. I was not built for this!Any recommendations?

[Misc] Did Austrian Empress Elisabeth's Beauty Routine Do Her Any Good? TW: Eating Disorder
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I am very into German musicals despite not speaking German and one of my favorites is called simply Elisabeth which is about the last Austrian Empress, Elisabeth. If her only son hadn't committed suicide without an heir, Franz Ferdinand wouldn't have become heir to the Austrian empire and who knows, maybe WWI/WW2 would have gone differently. She is most famous for the series of Austrian films about her which were made before it was known how deeply unhappy she was at court. They depict her life as much more lighthearted, and not about her deep depression and unhappiness of the restriction of court, her possible eating disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder, the murder-suicide her son committed, the death of her first daughter in young childhood, the fact that she wasn't allowed to raise her own children, etc. They also referred to her as Sissi, when her nickname was always spelled Sisi.Perhaps because she had so little control over her own life, she had an extreme beauty routine and diet. She prided herself on her appearance, maybe because she was thought of as ugly in her childhood. This is the most famous portrait of her ever done. She refused to have photographs taken of her or to sit for portraits after age 32, however a few were taken without her knowledge. This is the last known photo of her, taken at age 60, the day before her assassination (she was stabbed with a file, however her corset was laced so tightly that she didn't bleed out at the scene and they didn't realize she had been stabbed at first). She once said “Ah, the horror of growing old, to feel the hand of Time laid upon one’s body, to watch the skin wrinkling, to awake and fear the morning light, and to know that one is no longer desirable! Life without beauty would be worthless to me.”Spending three hours a day getting her hair done, going for intense walks for ten hours at a time, eating very little to the point where she weighed about 100 pounds and stood at 5'8'' tall were normal for her.Her skincare regimen was also intense. Wikipedia describes it as:Unlike other women of her time, Elisabeth used little cosmetics or >perfume, as she wished to showcase her natural beauty, but she >tested countless beauty products prepared in the court pharmacy, >or prepared by a lady-in-waiting in her own apartments, to >preserve it. Although one favorite, "Crème Céleste", was >compounded from white wax, spermaceti, sweet almond oil, and >rosewater; she attached far less importance to creams and >emollients, and experimented with a wide variety of facial tonics >and waters, from which she apparently expected more results. >Elisabeth slept without a pillow on a metal bedstead, all the better >to retain her upright posture, with either raw veal or crushed >strawberries lining her nightly leather facial mask. She was >heavily massaged and often slept with cloths soaked in either >violet- or cider-vinegar above her hips to preserve her slim waist, >and her neck was wrapped with cloths soaked in Kummerfeld-toned >washing water. To further preserve her skin tone, she took both a >cold shower every morning (which in later years aggravated her >arthritis) and an olive oil bath in the evening. She also used cold cream made for her with "beeswax, sweet almond oil, rosewater and cocoa butter" and "a cream made with cream made with lard, marshmallow roots and ground slugs". From hereMy question is (I'm not seeking to emulate her), did this skincare routine do her any good? She obviously looks pretty good for sixty in the last photo of her ever taken, but did those ingredients help?

Hi,I'm too poor for Murad but the samples I got worked so well, better than I had ever expected. They were the redness therapy foaming cleanser, serum, and moustiriser and my skin felt and looked amazing while they lasted. I've googled about this and I read Mario Badescu is equally as good and cheaper, I was wondering if anyone had any other recommendationsthank you in advance :)ninja edit: I have sensitive and combination, maybe couperose skin

[Acne] Someone please help! Skin has been pretty much clear and problem free and now I'm breaking out like crazy ): photos in post
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have not changed much in my routine at all, I've stopped wearing makeup. The only new thing that I've used in the past month is CeRave in the white tub. I've seen people have had issues with this but could this really cause all of this in only one area? I recently added bha (stridex pads) back into my routine when these started popping up. I don't know what else to do! I have never had much trouble with my skin at all even as a teenager.https://imgur.com/a/JFCNB

[PSA] Don't DIY sunscreen!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
If you're a regular on this sub, you probably already know this. But for newer people: please, for the love of skincare, don't fall for those DIY sunscreen posts. I saw this video on my Facebook news feed and I'm pretty sure I felt the ghost of my childhood second degree sunburn come to life. (Video summary: someone cooks up a recipe for "non-toxic" homemade sunscreen using coconut oil, olive oil, essential oils, and zinc oxide. They heat it up, stir it with a spoon, let cool, then store it in a transparent jar outdoors in direct sunlight. Off-camera, chemists everywhere are pulling their hair out.)Here are the reasons to never DIY sunscreen:Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are really hard particles to disperse properly. An industry-grade homogenizer (AKA not a spoon) is needed to break up and emulsify zinc and titanium powders so that they can be spread evenly and cover all your skin. If not distributed properly, you're misleading yourself into thinking your skin is protected when it's not. It's impossible to know how much SPF you're actually getting.Although coconut oil does screen an insubstantial portion of UV light, it, as well as other oils, can actually attract sunlight like a tanning oil and cause UV damage. Coconut oil is also a terrible base that does not work well with physical blockers. This DIY sunscreen is gonna be greasy AF--can you imagine putting this on your face? Just the idea is making me break out.Overall, it'd be great if people could stop getting scared of big science ingredients that actually protect your skin from the sun. Those """toxic chemicals""" are for your safety. There's an intricate art and chemistry that goes into sunscreen products that makes them stable and effective. So please leave this to the professionals.

Hey,So I am on my third bottle of The Ordinary's Rose Hip Oil and the last two I had always noticed a slight smell, nothing too overpowering but 100% obviously a smell to it.Then, recently, they were out of stock for aaaaages and then one day I just saw it was available and grabbed it. Then it was gone again (it's back now FYI - they just emailed me).I got the new bottle a few days ago and it has NO smell. Like, nothing. I'm not complaining but I am wondering if anybody knows of a formula change or had maybe experienced the same thing...Thanks :)

[Skin concerns] Applying foundation with flaky skin?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
My skin is extremely dry but before simply moisturising and exfoliating once in a while did the trick. However I started working as a receptionist at a salon/spa place and thus started wearing foundation. I've tried different types of moisturising liquid foundation, moisturising primer, applying creams underneath it, and a gazillion different moisturising and/or exfoliating face washes for dry skin. I also use a dampened beauty blender for application and have followed every tip for dry skin known to man.I think part of the problem may be that I'm on spironolactone for PCOS. It's a diruretic (sp?) That already makes me pee a thousand times a day and I can't even get through a day at work without being seriously hindered by running to the washroom all the time. I try to stay hydrated and have tried drinking tons of water before, to no avail. No matter how hard I scrub (I know, it's really bad for my skin) - including with sugar and olive oil, rough facecloths, etc - whenever I try to put on foundation there's these horrific dry flaky patches. I regularly have to wipe it off, scrub the dead skin off, and reapply until finally running out of time or getting my makeup on without it looking totally gross.I've tried laying off any exfoliation, and using lighter exfoliation, all the variations in between, but it never made a difference. The only thing that I've found to work is the Image Total Resurfacing Mask. Even then, I still need to use a rough cloth to scrub and scrub until my face burns to get my face to a point where I can actually attempt putting on foundation. I do get a staff discount from the spa, but it's not always in stock and even with the discount it's still pretty pricey. I think the ultra micro exfoliating beads are what helps. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions for other products?

[Product Question] How to decode chemicals to create a skin care routine??
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I know next to nothing about skincare. I'm terrible at keeping up with a skincare routine but I take off my make up and wash my face.I'm shopping on Beautylish looking at The Ordinary items. I'm so confused by all the chemical names (EGCG, azelaic acid suspension, ascorbyl glucoside solution.......) that I'm about to give up. I have 7 items in my cart (below) - but I don't know how to mix and match, what order to put them in, etc. One has Vitamin C, another says don't use with products that have Vitamin C.... would I use every product every night??Any insight on how to educate myself and create a skincare routine would be SO helpful. Like, decoding what to use when or what not to mix? I've never even used oils so I'm like, "Wait, you layer oils on your face?"Products: - Lactic Acid 5% + HA 2% - Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG - 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Moroccan Argan Oil - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 - Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% - Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% - Salicylic Acid 2% SolutionRight now I use Simple cleansing micellar water to remove make up, I'll wash my face with either Acure Sensitive Facial Cleanser or Pore Clarifying Facial Scrub (with a Clarisonic), Oxy Daily Defense Cleansing Pads after bikram yoga/after washing my face, a toner if I remember to use it (rarely), and I just ran out of Kenzoki moisturizer so I've been using a drugstore brand.Someone told me my skin is dry and "produces oil because it's dry" (idk) - so it gets dry if I don't moisturize but I get shiny/oily through my makeup on my T-zone and cheeks throughout the day. I get cystic pimples randomly, usually from bikram yoga or stress or hormones. My bigger problems are texture, small blind pimples, and some hyperpigmentation.I've seen a dermatologist multiple times and they ALWAYS turn me away saying "Oh, it's not that bad." Like, what? I may not have "acne" but I definitely don't have good skin. (I'm 24 by the way.) Literally the last time I went he just shrugged and told me to wear make up.Help!

[Sun Care] Sunless Tanner With SPF?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Has anyone found (and tried) a sunless tanner with SPF in it? I'm looking for one of those gradual tan-building lotions, but would like to have some sun protection in it since it's already shorts season. Looking online, the only one I found that had SPF included, was HEMPZ Yuzu & Starfruit Touch of Summer Moisturizing Gradual Self-Tanning Crème (SPF 30), but I couldn't find much in the way of reviews.Sorry if this has been answered before - New here and didn't see an answer when I searched. Thanks!

[ACNE] Help please, skin looks old and "tired" after many years of acne.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello everyone!I've been a lurker for a long time (other account) and always thought I could manage to figure out the optimal routine for my skin. Well turns out, I couldn't.Since 13 I always had acne, was pretty bad during teens. Now the big and red acnes went away and left a lot of scars and a tired-looking/loose skin. The routine I've followed during the previous months:Morning/Night (Moisturize): Nivea SoftMidday (Cleanse): Nivea Anti-Blenser 3-in-1 CleanserMy skin type is oily I think but not 100% sure. The moisturizing helped with the rosacea on my face, but other than that, I feel like not much has changed. You can find 2 photos of my face with different lighting. Both brings out different problems. First picture with scars and oldish/loose skin and second with the many blackhead-ish things on my face.http://imgur.com/a/pv6o1Any advice/suggestion is much appreciated, thank you for reading.

[Sun Care] LRP Anthelios Ultra-Light SPF 50+ Fluid users... application tips?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I use the European version, it's my HG but I honestly have a hard time determining how much I should apply to get the stated protection. I actually apply a pretty copious amount of the fluid to ensure that I'm getting the full PPD 42, but Avene (another Euro SS brand that has PPD protection comparable to LRP) has application videos that show their models applying just an index finger's length worth of Avene's fluid SS to their entire face. That is significantly lesser than the amount of fluid I apply on my face.Just wanted to hear from you folks. How many layers do you do, and is it a relatively thin or thick one, stuff like that. It's way harder to figure out the appropriate application amount for a fluid sunscreen as opposed to a regular cream sunscreen imo.

[Product Question] Best product for a Blind Pimple?

I typically get them once every 3-6 months and have a daily routine of washing my face with Neutrogena Oil Free acne wash. I know of the heat method to bring it to the surface, but what would you recommend as a product to possibly reduce inflammation and take care of the blind pimple?

[Acne] Dermatologist told me that "there's no evidence showing dairy aggravating acne", how true is this?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Went to see my dermatologist regarding my acne and I told them that I was limiting my dairy consumption since I've read, on the internet, that high dairy consumption can make acne worse. She replied saying that there's "no evidence" showing that and that "dairy is essential". She then prescribed me with antibiotics. My question is, is there any validity to what she's saying? Should I keep my dairy low regardless of her 'advice'?

[Acne] I've officially stopped fighting acne. It's won. I'm done with the fight against it. It's tiring.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been on spironolactone for 4 years. The first 2 were 100mg the third was 125mg and the 4th (this year) 150mg. As it only stays clear for a short period of time then the acne comes back . I'm a 26 year old female and have no self confidence. Everywhere I go people are trying to suggest stuff for my face even if I don't know them.. It's embarassing. I have cysts all along the sides of my chin and jawline. I used to have flawless skin for a few months and now it's back to how it was before spiro. I'm so upset. My psychiatrist doesn't want me on Accutane because of the mental side effects. I take good care of my skin. I use cerave cleanser and moisturizer. Along with retin A and clindamycin for a year now as well. I give up. It total won and I'm so exhausted from worrying about pimples that I'm just accepting them... as tears drop on my phone screen :(

[Skin Concerns] For those of you who've had Laser Skin Resurfacing, is it worth it?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have wanted to do it for years, but fear of something going wrong (and the price-tag) has stopped me from going forward with it.I know it takes a few sessions to get to a place where you're seeing very significant results, but I'd do anything for flawless skin. I'm just scared of the wounds getting infected from a cold sore flare-up or my skin just not healing. I have very dry skin. I was on accutane when I was younger; my skin scars very very easily.

[routine help] Pilling with PC sunscreen after The Ordinary products?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi!In the am I use The Ordinary niacinimide+zinc, buffet, and clinique dramatically different gel. I give each about 5 minutes to sink in.Then, I use Paula's Choice suncare spf 50. Roughly a dime sized amount. Pat on.Then, an hour later, my face is full of tiny flakes... I'm brownish so it shows up something fierce.I definitely can't put any foundation on after, it pills into huge rolls and it looks like I'm wearing a shitty latex second skin.Any advice, or explanation? Thanks!

[personal] about my break down I had on here last week
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm on the right https://imgur.com/a/UZ1x2Some of you may remember last week I made a post completely freaked out that my skin was at its worst a week before my brothers wedding. I was crying and didn't know what to do, because even with makeup my skin was SO BUMPY. I just wanted to come on here and thank everyone who took the time to write a kind or calming comment. As it turns out, and like many of you said, my skin made a huge improvement in a week by cutting my routine down to basics. Anything that was left, I tried my hardest to cover with makeup. All in all, I think everything turned out alright, and I felt beautiful. I didn't feel like anyone was staring at my skin. Thank you SCA.

[Acne] Swollen hard areas with no active acne?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey guys! 28 year old female with normal-to-oily cystic acne prone skin, hormonal acne for the past 3-4 years or so. I've always had cystic and nodular acne with a brief interlude of nearly perfect skin between the ages of 17 and 24 (I had no idea how good I had it at the time or that my acne would return). During my early teens I had the benefit of great health insurance and would regularly go for cortisone injections and was prescribed Retin-A micro after no success with antibiotics, but now that I'm older I can't afford the great healthcare I used to get. I'm saving $ since I'm planning on seeing a dermatologist soon but in the mean time I use a probiotic, try to stay gluten and meat free, exercise 3 times a week and stay hydrated/moisturizer. I guess I'm looking for someone who can relate to this particular issue? My friends all have perfect skin 😑Lately my face has been fairly clear (for me) as I'm trying to break my skin picking habit and not squeeze pores or pimples. But sometimes I mysteriously end up with large areas of my chin swollen, red, and hard/painful. These areas remind me of the tough nodular patches I would get that would come to a cystic head eventually and drain, except that they can be 1-2" in diameter and don't really amount to anything! I literally woke up with this one overnight underneath a healing pimple that hadn't been inflamed initially and it affects the motion on the left side of my chin. Anyone else experience large swollen areas like this?!?! Pics in link:https://imgur.com/gallery/NifGdMy routine is as follows:AM rinse w water The Ordinary Buffet The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion BS 50+ *Salicylic Acid spot treatment if necessaryPM ocm followed by CeraVe *The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% or Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel 2-3 times a week Differin Gel (2 mos so far) cold pressed rose hip seed oil *The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% if necessary

[PSA] - Free&Clear Liquid Cleanser is pH balanced, very gentle, cheap, and contains few if any problematic ingredients!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Just thought I'd share my HG cleanser, Free&Clear Liquid Cleanser from the makers of Vanicream, (there is also a Vanicream-brand cleanser but I've read that it isn't the right pH.) I bought it online after looking for an affordable, gentle, sulfate-free, fragrance-free, pH-balanced cleanser to use after I oil cleanse. I used to use Purpose and thought I loved it, but the SLS eventually became too much for my sensitive skin, plus it contains fragrance. It's the same story for Cetaphil. CeraVe was too either too rich or too drying for my skin, (depending on whether I was using the hydrating or the foaming one.) I love the cleanser I'm using now, it's light and slightly bubbly and it gets the job done without drying me out!
