[personal] its finally happened!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I am honestly very obsessed with make up and skincare. I have spent the last couple of years honing my makeup skills and getting my skin to where i would like to be. Like so much so that my lovely husband, after listening to me obsess, knows and can distinguish between types of highlighters and the difference between glycolic and hyaluronic acid. Which is very funny considering that i have ro fight tooth and nail with him to even wash his face in the morning. I always joke with him that i will one day get him to not only wash his face, but to wear spf. Well my sca family that day has come! Thanks to my constant ramblings and the freezing cold weather outside my husband came home yesterday with a neutrogena hyaluronic cleanser, spf and moisturizer for himself. He was super proud! Just felt like sharing because not only has sca made my skin better but it has also prompted my husband to start taking better care of himself!!Ps. I also got him to wear my laneige lip mask before bed!! Thank you freezing cold temps lol

[Cringe] I can see why r/Skincareaddiction hates LUSH so much

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I strolled into Lush the other day with my SO and we were shopping around just having a look at the different products, when she gets grabbed by the hand by this LUSH employee who says “Hey I bet nobody’s ever asked you this before, but do you want to feel like a dolphin!??” Now, if that wasn’t cringe enough, what followed was certainly worse. She grabs her hand and begins rubbing a physical exfoliant on her, and begins on a miraculous bullshit spree of facts which I’m sure r/skincareaddiction will certainly disagree with. First, “This paste has lemon in it which is completely natural and smooths out the skin and helps soften it and bleaches the pigments” Right, I’ve been browsing r/skincareaddiction for a short time, long enough to have the basics eg AHA,BHA,gentle cleanser etc but if there’s one thing I know, lemon is horrendous for your skin. I tried not to laugh as she said that but it got consecutively worse.Next: “This scrub will completely eliminate all the underlying pigments in your skin and smooth it out making it look healthier and calm it down”, I have no words for this statement, I’m pretty sure anyone knows that a scrub isn’t going to eliminate the pigments in your skin, otherwise everyone would be using this magic scrub on acne scars sun spots etc.Honestly, I tried so hard not to laugh at everything this LUSH employee said when she sat there rubbing it on my SO’s skin, eventually we just said thanks and left and had a good laugh at the employee. Has anyone else had a similar experience at a LUSH store??

[MISC] my tears are literally burning my skin?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Earlier this month I lost somebody, and I cried a lot, and I had burns around my eyes and down my cheeks and chin. I had gone from using natural products to like mass made chemical products and I thought that was it. It went away after I went back to natural stuff. A week ago I had something happen again, and I’ve been crying nonstop, and the burns are back! It’s so painful and everything I put on my face burns, like to the point where I can’t drink water because it flares up the burns on my lips! My skin is peeling and raw. I don’t know how to fix it :/ I’m pretty sure it’s my tears because both scenarios of intense emotional crying gave me this, and nothing else has changed. Does anybody have any advice on how to heal it quicker? 😩

[Review] My first year of skincare reviewed!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have used skincare in the past but only the very basics, this year I got really serious about it and my skin has improved so much! Most of the products I've been using for almost the whole year. For reference my skin is normal and not acne prone, and my goals were to moisturize, brighten, and even my skin tone.Cleansers:CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser (3/5 stars) - It's nice. I use it when my skin is feeling extra irritable, but I don't like the film it leaves and have other things I enjoy more.Pixi by Petra + Caroline Hirons Double Cleanse (5/5 stars) - The best makeup remover I've found so far. It's so gentle, calming, and effective and really leaves my skin very hydrated. I love it! Will repurchase.Moisturizers:Teddie Organics Rosehip Seed Essential Oil (5/5 stars) - I love this oil so much!! It helped reduce the very fine lines I have around my eyes and just makes my skin glow like nothing else. I love it alone or mixed in with other products I'll mention. I got this off of Amazon and would definitely repurchase!Pacifica Wake Up Beautiful Mask (3/5 stars) - I prefer to use this as a heavier moisturizer rather than a mask and enjoy it mixed in with a little bit of the rosehip oil mentioned above. It makes my face a little tight on its own and it's not my favorite overall, so I would not repurchase.Farmacy Honey Drop Moisturizer (4/5 stars) - I really enjoy this moisturizer! I like using it on days I want something that will hydrate but also will soak in really quickly. The smell is a bit odd but it disappears quickly. I would repurchase this.Farmacy Sleep Tight Firming Night Balm (5/5 stars) - I really enjoy this. It makes my skin so plump and firms it a little bit (although I don't need much because I'm only 20) and just makes it so moisturized. I love the consistency and texture and feel luxurious applying it. The smell is pleasant and I feel it's really effective. I would like to repurchase but don't know if I will because it's quite expensive.Actives:Nip + Fab Exfoliate Glycolic Fix Night Pads Extreme (4/5 stars) - I really like these pads! I just wanted to even out texture and I feel like they really helped with making my skin smooth and even without being too harsh. I only use these about twice a week. I would repurchase but I'd like to try other things first :)Masks:Fresh Vitamin Nectar Vibrancy-Boosting Face Mask (2/5 stars) - I feel like this does absolutely nothing, especially for the price and it is very annoying to apply and wash off. I would not repurchase.Mask First Impressions (only got a chance to use them once):Farmacy Honey Potion Mask - Had a super thick consistency and was hard to massage into the skin in order for the heating property to initiate. I didn't see much improvement after one use but of course will try it again.Herbivore Blue Tansy Mask - WOW my skin was tight while this was on. I did see an improvement is skin texture the next day so I will definitely continue to use this. That's all! I also posted a long in-depth review of the asian skincare I tried this year over at r/asianbeauty so if you're interested in seeing those reviews go check it out! All of the Asian skincare I use is easily accessible in the USA. If you have any questions about the products I talked about above feel free to ask in the comments and I'll be happy to answer!! Hope this helped :)

[misc] HaircareAddiction?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Is there a SCA type group for hair? I have learned so much from this community and have realized that could really benefit from a "beginner's routine" for my hair as well. I've looked at /r/curlyhair and it seems amazing.. but I don't have curly hair. Maybe the baaaarest hint of a wave if I'm being generous. Most of the advice on curlyhair doesn't seem to apply to my superfine, flyaway, broken head of hair. So - any excellent spots or resources on the internet for not-so-curly hair nerds?

Laneige Lip Mask is my skincare victory [Review]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
It feels so ridiculous to wax poetic about a product that I originally looked at as an overpriced chapstick. But this felt like one of those years where every awesome product had a pretty hefty "but...":Trying to find an HG active knocked the crap out of my skin. The search to find something effective that I could use consistently meant I dabbled in everything from Pixi Glow Tonic to Drunk Elephant's Glycolic Night Serum to COSRX's AHA Whitehead Power Liquid, ending up with some seriously exhausted skin.Even beloved non-comedogenic soothing products meant breakouts for days.. Stuff people herald as seriously soothing and skin-friendly, like COSRX Rice Overnight Mask, SCINIC Honey All in One Ampoule, or Benton Snail Bee Content Essence managed to trigger some closed comedones. Snail! Honey! Seriously!?Deciding if my skin was dehydrated or sebum-crazed (or both) meant my masking regimen became seriously bipolar. One day I was layering on COSRX Overnight Honey and Leaders hydrating sheet mask after Leaders hydrating sheet mask; the next I was bathing in BHAs and charcoal clay masks. My poor skin didn't know whether it was in a desert or a swamp. With a packed and confused routine, products that only promise results in the long-term got kicked to the curb. Goodbye, Drunk Elephant C-Firma! I trust that you would flourish in a more disciplined home that actually applied you every day!So when I look back, what's the product that quietly, unassumingly, unfailingly did its business? Laneige Lip Mask.I started the year with lips that were somehow always chapped: I'd drink gallons a day, hydrate like crazy, and still have some skin flakes. And if I forgot to chug water and carry chapstick on a winter day, forget about it—I could smile wrong and end up with a split lip.But Laneige Lip Mask! I can slick on a little after I brush my teeth at night and in the morning, and my lips are back to normal. For the first time ever, my lips aren't chapped! I can drink red wine in bars again. In the after-school special version of this story, the moral of the Laneige Lip Mask would be that if you select products carefully, apply them with consistency and discipline, and don't go buck-wild trying to chase after the next thing that sounds like a solution to your prayers, products actually have the chance to work! That's all true. But also with just bare-bones simplicity, it's really nice to have something sitting on your bureau that legit solved a real problem you thought you'd always have, and think to yourself, "Heck yeah. That shit's solved."Thanks for giving hope, LLM!

[Shelfie] Since I love seeing everyone else's so much, here's mine :)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
https://imgur.com/a/btqReHey guys! I just want to first of all thank everyone on this subreddit for your reviews and suggestions. I’m 28, and my skin is dehydrated and sliiiiiightly oily (this has been improving big time as hydration is improving, it used to be pretty oily). So on the shelf are:Cleansers: CeraVe hydrating, CeraVe SA renewing, Dirty Works micellar cleansing water, and a sample of apricot cleansing oil from Silk Naturals.Toners: Hada Labo Gokujun regular and premium.Moisturizers: CeraVe moisturizing cream, CeraVe moisturing lotion, and CeraVe pm.Occlusives: Aquaphor and CeraVe healing ointment.Sunscreen: Neutrogena clear face 55 and EltaMD UV clear.Misc.: DevaCurl styling cream and a muslin washcloth (on top).So my routine is:AM: splash of water, CeraVe pm (or something heavier if I’m feeling it), and one of the sunscreens. I prefer the EltaMD, but it’s a little pricy so I alternate it with the Neotrogena. The Neutrogena also goes on my chest and neck.PM: CeraVe hydrating cleanser with the washcloth or CeraVe SA renewing cleanser (I usually use the SA ~2x per week), Hada Labo (I just got the premium today so I can’t say how they compare just yet), and either the CeraVe moisturizing cream or lotion depending on the humidity outside (I live in Central Florida, so it varies). As a last step, I usually put Aquaphor on my lips and any dry areas, or if bae isn’t home I’ll slug it up with Aquaphor (I just got the CeraVe ointment today also, and I plan on using this the same way). I’ll use the cleansing oil every now and then, and the micellar water if I’m feeling too lazy to do a full wash of my face. The only makeup I wear is eyeliner and eyebrow liner, so I don’t feel like double cleansing is really necessary. My skin concern is just anti-aging. I don’t plan on using retinol for a while though. I’ve tried a few of Paula’s Choice retinol products and the CeraVe retinol product (I forget the name atm?) and it irritated my skin like crazy. I know this goes away, but honestly my skin is fine now without it. The same goes for actives. I’ve tried the Paula’s choice BHA and the Silk Naturals lactic acid and they both irritated the crap out of my skin. It’s just not for me. But I feel like the SA renewing cleanser I use has enough of a chemical exfoliation component to clear any debris for me without really stripping my skin, since I wash it off quickly. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask :).Oh and the shelf is this one: https://www.target.com/p/triangle-shelf-brass-project-62-153/-/A-52722728#lnk=sametab

Examples of people you look up to and why is you wish your skin looked that clear/moisturized, wish when you get to that age you look just like them, has this amazing GLOW that is to die for?My icon has to be Miranda Kerr, Yasmin Le Bon, probably Kate Bekinsale and Mariah Carey! All of them share one thing. [product question] African Black Soap- Yay or Nay?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've read that African black soap is a good choice for those looking for something without all the fillers. I was looking for something natural as I have perioral dermatitis so I bought a bar. I decided to do a bit more research before I used it (I'm scared to put anything on my face these days) and began to come across posts from people who said it ruined their skin and ph. So what's the deal? I have combination skin and of course extreme dryness in the areas with dermatitis. Anyone have any experiences they can share?

[Routine Help] Should scars be massaged or better to keep them in rest?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Some dermatologists recommend massaging a scar with bio oils or vitamin E oil to minimize scarring process. According to them, massaging promotes scars to fade away gradually.Others recommend leave a scar in rest and just keep it under silicone patches or silicone gels and do not irritate it somehow. According to them, massaging a scar only irritates it and provokes it to grow. The question is: should scars be massaged during scar tissue formation or better keep them in rest?

I don't have a large budget but from saving up over the last 6 months I have about 50$ - so I want to try and build a routine of only the most essential stuff. Here are pics of my skin right nowI have oily/blemish prone skin (I think) - also im trying to up my water intakeMy current routine is -AM -Wash with waterAveeno mosturizing lotion with oatmeal in it (my mom got it for like 2$)PM -Wash with waterAveeno oatmeal moisturizerSpot treat w/ BP - (Epiduo)As you can see, it isn't great. With the 50$ I've saved up, I'm thinking of getting the CeraVe hydrating cleanser as well as the moisturizer, along with Stridex in the red tub. That's about 37$ on Amazon, so please suggest if I should get something else/more.Also I have a few questions -since im still a teenager - im pretty sure this is hormonal - is it even worth trying to combat it at this age? or will it keep coming back?if i do get all the products mentioned above, how should i introduce them into my routine - 1 by 1 or all 3 at once?thank you!

[MISC] Not yet announced Glossier chemical exfoliating “solution”

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I know that there is a lot of hullabaloo around the brand Glossier, both negative and positive, but Glossier has me by the purse strings because I feel their message “Skin first, makeup second” really speaks to the way I view my beauty routine, and also their customer service is top notch. But this isn’t a hailcorporate kind of post.Yesterday, if you caught their instastory, one of their employees was showing her beauty routine. While doing her skin routine she talked about suffering from acne then applied something she only called a “solution.”They only showed the solutions top, the kind you press down in and it disperses product into a cotton round, and it was in a familiar pink coloring. So I googled a bit and found this - Glossier Solution Exfoliating Skin PerfectorThe label says that it is a “Salicylic Acid Acne Treatment” with “10% AHA/BHA/PHA.” The link shows all of the ingredients, so maybe some of you will be able to make better sense of it than I can.I suppose we’ll be seeing the release of this soon, but we’ve got first scoop!Any thoughts?

[PSA] To those of you experiencing no improvement (or worsening) of acne on birth control...

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Long time lurker here and first time ever reddit poster and decided I finally needed to break my silence to share with you something I learned in pharmacy school.A lot of people (myself included) have experienced terrible acne while on birth control even though its supposed to help. The truth is that not all oral contraceptives are created equally for treating acne and some can even make it worse. The reason behind this is the form of progesterone that is included in the pill (desogestrel, norethindrone, drosperinone, etc) can have different chemical properties. Some forms are considered more "androgenic" than others. When a progesterone is more androgenic, it is more likely to have similar effects to testosterone - and high levels of testosterone have been associated with increased acne.I've listed below the different oral contraceptives that are worse/better for acne based upon their androgenic activity. The generic name is the first term listed and the brand names are in parentheses. Note that some generics are listed twice in different categories, depending upon the dosage of the progesterone component.I've personally noticed a difference switching my birth control to drosperinone & EE, but it carries a higher stroke risk meaning that some people shouldn't take it. This is something I thought might be helpful to the community, but obviously don't take medical advice from strangers online. :)WORST for acne (likely to make acne prone individuals experience occasional breakouts):-Norgestrel & Ethinyl Estradiol (Ogestrel, Cryselle, Low-Orgestrel, Lo/Ovra)-Norethindrone 1 mg & Ethinyl Estradiol (Junel, Junel FE, Microgestin, Microgestin FE, Gildess FE, Loestrin, Loestrin FE; Necon 1/35, Ovcon, & Nortrel are slightly better but not by a lot)-Levonorgestrel 0.15 mg & Ethinyl Estradiol (Jolesse, Portia, Quasense, Levora, Nordette, Seasonale)-Ehtynodiol diacetate & Ethinyl Estradiol (Zovia, Kelnor)Moderate for Acne (potential to make acne worse or better):-Norethindrone 0.5 mg & Ethinyl Estradiol (Necon 0.5/35, Nortrel 0.5/35, Brevicon)-Norethindrone 0.4 mg & Ethinyl Estradiol (Balziva, Zenchant, Ovcon-35, Femcon Fe Chew)-Norgestimate & Ethinyl Estradiol (Mononessa, Previfem, Sprintec, Ortho-Cyclen)-Desogestrel & Ethinyl Estradiol (Apri, Reclipsen, Solia, Desogen, Ortho-Cept)-Levonorgestrel 0.10 mg & Ethinyl Estradiol (Aviane, Lessina, Lutera, Sronyx, Alesse)BEST for acne (protective against acne):-Drosperinone & Ethinyl Estradiol (Ocella, Yasmin, Yaz, Gianvi)

[Routine Help] If Niacinamide didn't work for you, what did?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Just what the title says! (sorry if this kind of post isn't allowed, feel free to remove if so!)I ordered the Ordinary's Niacinamide + Zinc and gave me a weird reaction on my face, like small red bumps all over. I tried to give it one last chance and tried it again---same thing. I even used to cleanse with the CeraVe foaming cleanser, but now I switched to the Cetaphil one because it doesn't contain niacinamide. So I guess my question is, for those of you who can't use Niacinamide for fading and redness, what do you use instead? I have some spots I'd like to fade and redness I'd like to control and everyone always recommends Niacinamide, but my skin sadly hates it :((for reference, I have combo to dry skin--drier now that it's winter where I live--with occasional acne during my period but pretty clear overall, just redness and sun spots from before I wore SPF daily)

[personal] I hate unsolicited skincare advice, but I dont want to be rude

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have a whole host of skin concerns, my biggest being acne. I will sometimes casually mention my skin concern if it's quasi related. For example, sometimes when I discuss why I was dairy/gluten free for a while, I'll admit that it was because I was testing if that was an acne trigger.I am up to here with the armchair dermatologists that spring up whenever I utter the word acne. Any time I mention it (and I never ask for anyone's advice), at least one person will offer their own hackneyed cure for acne. I've received sage advice like "just wash your face" or "seek a professional" or "don't ever eat soy." Most everyone treats me like I've been living under a rock or that I haven't tried anything to cure it. And everyone thinks their cure is the secret formula that will work for everyone. But I can't actually be mad at these people. They don't know me or my journey. They had something work for them and they want to spread their knowledge in the hopes that it may help me. It's not malicious, and they definitely don't know how condescending they sound because it's coming from a place of either innocent ignorance or genuine care. Skincare is the only topic in which I want to yell back at the person that I'm not an apathetic idiot and I don't need their witches brew of a skincare regimen, no one asked. That's been the theme of my holidays. I'm on accutane now so hopefully these are the last holidays I have to hear this kind of stuff. Hope I can keep biting my tongue until then.

[Humor] Thank you, ScA! You saved me from having to take a cold shower in the middle of winter!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
My story begins with the dynamic duo of my husband and I, reading up online about how to apply fiberglass insulation... we've never done it before, so he pulled up a DIYer's forum with tips on how to prepare beforehand, and cleanup afterwards. A few commenters on a particular thread said that when they're done, they first shower with hot water to open their pores and 'wash out all the fibers', then with cold water to close them. When I read that I pointed at the screen and proclaimed quite authoritatively to my husband, "Pores do NOT open and close, that is a MYTH." Another Google search proved me right, and so I narrowly avoided the looming threat of a horrible, chilly post-insulation shower--all thanks to the knowledge I've gleaned from this subreddit. 🤣

[Acne] I finally discovered that the TYPE of acne you have should determine whether you use salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Sorry if you guys already know this, but I’ve never seen any posts about this before. I was super excited to find this out and wanted to share with anyone who doesn’t know!Soooo I stumbled across an article from allure magazine that said:"Both products treat acne, but they target different types," says David Bank, an assistant clinical professor of dermatology at New York Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center. He recommends first identifying the type of acne you have—inflammatory (red pimples) or comedonal (white- and blackheads). Inflammatory acne responds to benzoyl peroxide, which fights bacteria that cause zits, while comedonal is best treated with exfoliating salicylic acid, which removes dead skin cells and bacteria from the pores. So last night I applied a 10% benzoyl peroxide topical solution to my red inflamed bumps, left it on while I slept (don’t do this if you have sensitive skin), and behold! My skin was around 50% clearer when I woke up this morning. It’s really drying though so I recommend following up with a good moisturizer.Whole article here

[Skin Concerns] Has anyone had professional treatments (peels, laser, etc) for PIE/PIH?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm not sure if what I have is PIE or PIH because it is still visible with the blanching test but is mostly red and does not seem to respond to ANY products... but basically, I get mild acne that leaves behind red marks regardless of whether or not I touch/pop it.The acne is pretty much under control but my face is COVERED in marks left over from it and I just want them gone. No products whatsoever have worked to fade them (vitamin c, niacinamide, AHAs, BHAs, and more). I'm to the point where I'm willing to pay for professional treatments but am wondering if they're going to be effective or not.Does anyone here have any experience with this? Lasers, peels? If so, which ones? How many treatments did you require and what was the recovery like?

[PSA] I finally found an SPF lip balm that doesn't taste bad and has broad-spectrum protection!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have been searching for years for an SPF lip balm that doesn't have that horrible sunscreen bitter taste, and I'd pretty much given up (I've been carrying around a tiny container of my Olay sensitive moisturizer and just been putting that on my lips, that sunscreen has octinoxate & zinc oxide). There are a few physical block lip balms out there, but the ones I've tried all have a horrible white cast, which is to be expected due to the nature of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. There are, on the other hand, tons of lip balm that have chemical sunscreen ingredients, but they either didn't contain the right ingredients to block both UVB & UVA, or tasted horrible. Then, I found this! Nivea Smoothness Lip CareIt has the right combo of ingredients for good protection (of course you should apply it frequently) and IT DOESN'T TASTE BAD!!I hope this helps some people!

[PSA] I iced my face before oil cleansing and got WAY more grits than when I do the usual grits method!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I posted about this in another thread, but thought I’d make it it’s own post since I was able to replicate it! A few weeks ago I oil cleansed after taking a walk in the snowy weather and was shocked at the amount of grits I got. Way more than I did when I did the stridex+ clay mask method, which didn’t work that well for me and was more time consuming than I prefer for a morning cleanse. At another user’s suggestion, I iced my face last night using a soft ice pack for about 90 seconds, then oil cleansed as usual (I wasn’t wearing make up or sunscreen). Holy crap guys I got hella grits. I’m new to the skincare thing, so I do t know if this is an unhealthy or dangerous thing to do for any reason, or why it works, but it works really really well for me!Y’all wanna join my experiment? I want to know if it works for other people too!

[misc] What do you think is the best and worst/most toxic thing about ScA?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’m curious to your thoughts!!Best: Extremely helpful. Like, advice is the best of ANY site I’ve come across. I trusted this sub over my derm, and I am proud of my skin right now.Worst: Maybe this is across all subreddits, but many people downvote when it’s not something that’s loved in ScA, or that’s different from the ScA census; for example, people that like scrubs, Neutrogena Grapefruit, etc. are shunned a lot, or when I said I didn’t like CeraVe, holy CRAP, what happened to YMMV?Overall, though, I love ScA, it has helped my skin sooooo much.

[Misc] Tell me skin products you like that everyone else hates.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I recently went to the store and picked up This bad boy againIt occured to me at checkout that I've been using it on and off for what feels like a decade. I needed to get my love for it off my chest.I used to use the scrub aswell a few times in my teens when I didn't realize how bad microbeads were for the enviroment. So this bha cleanser took me through my pimply teen years and even though I have aged out of getting breakouts and I am not acne prone, I still use it. It does so much for my skin texture, cleansliness, provides a deep clean, and never strips my skin or irritates it.It just works so well for my skin and I have serious skincare routine- oil cleansing then I use this as my AM cleanser, toners, aha, a whole stock pile of antioxiant/peptide serums, PIH serums, tretinoin, other treatments, moisturizers, oils, american sunscreen, european sunscreen, you name it.Im actually embarassed I like it so much (i know thats silly) since Neutrogena pink grapefruit oil free acne wash is considered sh*t here on SCA.But its not just SCA, if you look on Neutrogenas official website this thing scores a 60%. The amazon reviews of this cleanser and scrub...dont even look it's actually heartbreaking what both products has made people go through. I dont know if its the low ph irritating people or if its some allergen but this thing is so universally hated Im suprised its still being sold...but it keeps me coming back. My skin texture isnt the same without it. There's other bha cleansers out there without dyes and fragrances but this is so affordable its hard to ignore.Anyone else have a product that continuously improve their skin that is often hated?

[Miscellaneous] Proof that dehydrated skin produces more oil (?)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
From what I understood, sebum production is controlled by hormonal signals, which can include many causality factors, and/or genetics. But I’ve searched, and searched some more and can’t find anything that conclusively states that dehydrated skin some how causes increased sebum production. I’m not going to take the word of a beauty blogger who doesn’t cite references as gospel. Can anyone provide any resources?I have dehydrated skin. I notice less dehydration in my skin when I drink more water and use humectants. I do not have oily skin. I’ve never had oily skin. I have discovered that I don’t really have dry skin either, unless I’ve just done a peel. If I followed the logic that dehydrated skin leads to more oil production, it would stand to reason that I’d have some oil on my skin. I don’t have any.Just looking for conclusive studies.

[humor] A list of clapbacks for the holiday season for those relatives who like to point out your skin.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
My skin has recovered, but last year so many people pointed out my skin, and I was so ashamed and embarassed that I never retorted and I just went into my room and cried. WELL, it’s CHRISTMAS, & I’m not about to let some family members ruin my spirit. Here are some clapbacks I thought of (those who comment are usually older than me, aunts and uncles, cousins, etc.) if you have any more, please list them down below!!And IDK about ya’ll, but saying this back to people gives them a taste of their own medicine, and I’m here for it. I’m not the best at comebacks but I’m pretty sure some of y’all are!Relative: Are you washing your face?Me: Yeah, and are you using an eye cream for that Crow’s feet?Relative: drink more water.Me: You should drink some too, your lips are looking a little crusty, susan.Relative: damm, your face!Me: You should look at your face before you wanna say anything. Haha (add that in to make it less intense)Relative: You’re breaking out!Me: You’re gaining weight!ORMe: Wow, thanks, I really had NO idea. You are my hero. Oh, by the way, have you still not decided on a career yet even though you’re 28? (Sorry that was specific to my cousin lol)Relative: what products are you using? They’re not helping your face.Me: Whatever products you’re using aren’t helping yours either. All these clapbacks are vague and interchangable with specific features that you know about your own relatives. Prepare some guns for those who you know are gonna say something!List some more!! This is all I could come up with. These are all things my family have said to me.

[Meta] Thanking our top contributors in the help threads :)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone! As we did last year, we’d like to thank the users who have been helpful in the Daily Help Threads over the past year. There are more questions asked every month, and we’re very grateful to everyone who takes the time to answer them!It was really difficult to decide how to distribute the gold this year. There were a lot of people who have been very helpful in 2017, and we wanted to make sure we showed our gratitude appropriately. What we ended up deciding on was the following: the top contributors to the help thread all get one month of gold, and we give an extra month of gold to those who went out of their way to be friendly and welcoming.1 month of goldThank you to /u/meg0neurotHe11 for being so helpful in the first half of this year, /u/ThorsHammerMewMEw in the second half, and /u/ffleur for consistently helping throughout the year :)/u/fjordling_, you’re an active contributor in the help threads for the second year running; thank you for keeping up the work!/u/mastiii, we appreciate your extensive replies. You and /u/ms_kittyfantastico have been active as ScA Helpers for three years in a row - that’s amazing and we’re so grateful for your continued support! We’re giving you both a special 3-year star to say thank you :)/u/onigiri815, /u/KarenHugerMole and /u/MxUnicorn - I would like to commend you on the huge amount of questions you answered over the past year. You’ve made sure that as many people as possible get an answer when they ask in the help thread, which must take a lot of time and effort. We really appreciate the work you've done!2 months of gold/u/jv_level, /u/scumteam14 and /u/screambledeggs - not only were you active contributors to the help thread; you went out of your way to be cheerful to the people asking questions. Your extra effort makes people feel more welcome, and we’re really thankful for that!/u/screambledeggs - you’ve been consistently helpful, friendly and active in the help threads for more than a year now, and we’re very appreciative of your efforts. You’re now an official ScA Helper - you’ll have a blue star next to your username to show this off!/u/scumteam14 - you’ve not only answered tonnes of questions, not only do you often give very comprehensive replies - you also do it with a smile and an amazingly upbeat attitude. We’re very grateful for your work, and we’re happy to give you the title “ScA Helper of the Year 2017”! This title will show when people hover over the new blue star next to your username. There are a lot more users who helped out in the help threads but who I haven’t mentioned here. To those people: I see your work, I value your contributions, and I thank you for making this subreddit a better place.Happy holidays!

[Routine Help] Starting a Good Routine and Lessening PIE?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’m 22 and I finally figured out that the main cause of my acne throughout my life so far is a small allergic reaction I have to Red Food Dye (from candy, normal food, etc). I don’t remember how I found out but I’ve tested myself 3 times with various red food dyes from different foods and each time I get a break out of 3-4 cystic acne that usually lasts 2-3 weeks. Hence I ate some red sprinkles on cheesecake graduation night on the 8th and I’m starting to heal from the outbreak in the photos. Sugary foods don’t break me out unless they contain red food dye (tested myself to make sure)My skin care routine is super simple which is just AM/PM Equate Oil Free Acne Wash Cleanser and right before bed I apply Mederma PM.I don’t use any other products except Mac liquid Foundation.I’m actually allergic Cerave, my face swells and itches (spelling?)I want to start slowly adding some products to protect my skin, start anti aging prevention, and reduce the small black heads I have on my nose and around my nose (they are super small and I think the correct term is subasceas filaments?)I have normal skin (not to oily, not to dry), but my nose is always super oily?I have been reading on here that Vitamin C could help with my red marks that are left after I have a cystic acne flare up?After I wash my face in the morning my face where those hyper pigmentation marks are get super red and more show up so I know I need to probably calm my skin down? Here are photos I just took. My Current Skin (before I wash it)Thank you in advance and I’m excited to start really taking care of my skin!

[misc] The difference not burning your face off with acid can make...

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Pic: https://imgur.com/34sNT1L(L-R) First pic 11th Dec, second pic 14th Dec and last pic today.. 22nd Dec. All 3 pictures taken at the same place, beside the window in my office. So 11 days isn't really enough time for a true 'before and after' therefore I didn't give it that tag, however I'm in shock to how quickly my skin has responded.Long story short I had these bumps (CC's) on my cheeks for approx 6 months, bought every acid that TO sold to try and treat them and with my lack of knowledge (before discovering this sub) I was acid toning with TO glycolic 7%, followed by TO niacinamide serum and lactic acid 10% every night.. along with using their 30% AHA + 2% BHA peel twice a week AND the aztec clay mask with ACV twice a week also.. and surprise surpise that didnt work. So I done more research and came to the conclusion I had fungal acne.. therefore ditching all the above products because of their ingredients and slapping nizoral and thrush cream on my face instead.. this also, didn't work. What DID work though, was realising my skin was reaaaaally reaaaaaaaaaly dehydrated. A crap moisturiser, acid abuse and office air con 40 hours a week had dried my skin to a crisp. Back to square one.For the first few days all I used was a gentle cleanser, toner, moisturiser and vaseline and seen an instant improvement in how my skin looked and felt. Now my current routine is as follows: AM: Avene Extremely Gentle Cleanser, Simple Kind To Skin Soothing Facial Toner, TO Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, TO Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, Avene Tolerance Extreme Emulsion, (Also a humidifier in the office and in my bedroom)PM: Simple Cleansing Oil, Avene Extremely Gentle Cleanser, TO Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, TO Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion, Avene Tolerance Extreme EmulsionI'm still to scared to reintroduce the Glycolic toner, Lactic Acid, AHA/BHA mask or the clay mask and probably won't until the New Year. Onwards and upwards though!Edit: Commas

[Review]My honest thoughts on products from The Ordinary - Part 2

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey guys, Wanted to share my honest experience with product and service from The Ordinary / Deciem. Been a bit nervous about this as The Ordinary is pitched hard in this sub and I haven't seen many people write anything other than that it's great. Don't hate me. Your mileage may vary. This is the second part to my Part 1 which is here. Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12%: I think Vitamin C serums are truly the ones where I wake up the next morning and think wow, that has really made a difference. I've tried OST Vitamin C 20% which was horribly unstable and oxidised in days and NuFountains range (pretty good, can purchase from Amazon) in comparison. AGS 12% legit gives my skin a glow I can actually see and seriously reduces any red / irritation from old spots healing. It’s a light consistency, very easy to layer and absorbs quickly with no residue or stickiness. I use this in the morning away from any other acid/retinoid use at night. A lot of people comment on the smell of Vit C serums and this one really doesn't have one unless I stick my nose right in it. It definitely doesn't have that metallic type scent others have. 100% would repurchase but I'm keen to try out The Ordinary's other Vit C serums also. Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA: I believe this is the only moisturizer product in The Ordinary's range and it's weird it’s so underrepresented in comparison to other TO products on this sub. It's fantastic. It's not too heavy at all for oily skin and MAN my face feels so soft after I use it. Soft and silky and wonderful. I'm super picky with moisturizers and this one is seriously close to becoming my go to. It's just a touch too thick for me because of summer right now but I'm still using it every so often depending on my routine for the day. Have already repurchased my second tube. NIOD Superoxide Dismutase Saccharide Mist: The last time I posted my "shelfie" someone asked me about this product along the lines of, isn't this just a really expensive mist? And the answer is yes, that's exactly what it is. I use it morning and night in the toner step, although Deciem's website asks you to not confuse it as a basic bitch toner, thanks. Aside from the price and the pretentiousness, this is actually a pretty nice product. I find it super hydrating and REALLY calming, it absorbs super quick and it's just so nice to use after cleansers. Is this product going to change your life? No. Is it worth it for the price? Probably not, but I am going to repurchase just because it is actually really lovely, and I do really like it for my dehydrated skin. Hylamide HA Blur: WOW this product is marketed well. Just read the description. Who wouldn't want this. As it is summer for me right now, this sounds PERFECT to use in place of foundation at the beach. Here's the truth (for me) this blur blurred nothing. I tried it on one half of my face, there was literally no difference to the other side of my face. I left it for a while, I gave it time, I tried again later with my whole face, I've used it off and on during the day to see if anything changes....it doesn't. It's just a primer. And an average one at that, my NARS Sheer Glow foundation separated immediately over the top of it. It does give your skin that silky slidey feeling you get with primers and it may be a little too much for oily skin types. I'm kinda mad at this product. I was excited, and it just felt like a con.General Customer Service (as a non-American or UK customer). This is where Deciem has really left a sour taste in my mouth. Let me just start by saying, they're great at responding. They're also great with working with you to fix an order. Basically, I placed one then like, an hour later I got an email saying something else I wanted was in stock so I had to cancel my order and reorder everything with that product included. They were great at helping with this via their messaging service on the site.Let's talk about what it's like being a non-American customer. Firstly, have a look here. This side by side was screenshotted today, using a proxy for the USA site. Ok, so they've just opened up in Sephora, stock is an issue for AHA/BHA product, I get that. I don't understand why it's more expensive in US dollars to purchase but ok. The true problem with this is that truthfully AHA/BHA 30% is not out of stock, it is unavailable for me to purchase - ever. I kept writing and asking, when will this be in stock? I always got the same reply, soon, just be patient, here look at this monkey. The same thing with the Glycolic Acid toning solution.I realised that it was available to basically everyone else, so I wrote asking why I cannot purchase this as a customer from New Zealand and they told me that it is banned in Australia. Hello? You're a commonwealth company. Have you ever seen a world map? Australia and New Zealand are different countries with different restrictions on cosmetics. When I wrote that, I got a very confused reply saying, oh, well I guess we will pass that on to our IT team. Here is a funny monkey. Not only have they lumped NZ in under their Geo-block for Australia, they are still marketing this product with a price with a simple "out of stock" which I honestly believed for months, thinking that it must be really popular and waited for ages. For a "company with integrity" this weird mark up on prices and rubbish about stock is pretty dishonest. At the end of the day, I'm a girl with a credit card the same as everyone else here. I'm also pretty internet savvy so don't bullshit me. If it's unavailable in my area then say so. If it's unavailable in my area because their IT team is unable to differentiate between two different countries then fix it. Don't bullshit me with this "out of stock rubbish" that kept me waiting for months before I realised. We are part of an online skin community, obviously we can see what the Americans are able to buy and at what price in comparison to us.The other issue is shipping. It costs $40 shipping from Deciem in the states to NZ. I messaged asking to purchase from their Australian store and guess what, that's $40 shipping as well. Not only is this amount exorbitant, it's also incorrect. I've ordered many bigger, heavier products from USA amazon for a fraction of this shipping price. I've ordered lipsticks from Jeffrey Star, an arguably smaller company, who has international shipping for $9USD. Why is shipping from Australia to New Zealand $40??! Why is the cost from USA to NZ and Aus to NZ the same $40? That's actually insane. My work around this is actually shipping to a forwarding address in the states which then forward to me for more than HALF the price of shipping straight out of Deciem. I asked customer service for a bit of clarity regarding the shipping from their Australian story and got the "ummmm we're unsure, here is a funny monkey" response. It's infuriating. The only reason I will continue dancing through these VPN/proxy and shipping forwarder hoops is because of the core price of the product and because I genuinely do like some of their things. However, due to this I have zero brand loyalty and will immediately jump ship elsewhere if any other company can match their product in price and quality.TL:DR of both my postsGlycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution: HitAHA 30% - BHA 2%: HitAdvanced Retinoid 2%: HitGranactive Retinoid 5% in Squalene: MISS.
