Beauty Tips For Body Care
Just a rant. Something is definitely going on with the Paula's Choice company. Idk if it's as someone else has mentioned, that there's a new CEO, but it's just seem like they're gearing themselves (or have been already in the process of) toward PR and marketing than the original Paula's Choice mission that I fell in love with (to educate people about good skincare with great, affordable products). What's also going on with Beautypedia? I know they are now separate from Paula's Choice but aren't they still technically under the company's pay? They have stopped posting new videos on Youtube for almost a year and I feel like their reviews have been getting slow and worse.

[Sun Care] PSA: Cosmetically elegant sunscreens only work well if you know how to apply them correctly
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Most of us on here know that skincare products are YMMV for the most part – in other words, what works for one person may not work for another. The same idea applies to sunscreen, but I've always been intrigued by how some of the HG sunscreens in this subreddit (Biore's Watery Essence and the LRP Fluid come to mind) dry matte as intended on some people, yet make others look like greaseballs. The varied reactions towards these two sunscreens all over this subreddit is kind of strange, because regardless of your skin type, surely applying a mattifying sunscreen to a freshly cleansed face should give you the same matte finish on the spot (even if it doesn't last all day)?I've been thinking about this for a bit. I've tried most of the HG sunscreens recommended in this subreddit and they all worked as intended on my skin. They were all mattifying and non-greasy and I didn't really have any problems with any of them. It then dawned upon me that I've been applying SS in my own way as opposed to the regular way that is often recommended on this subreddit – the regular way = measuring 1/4 teaspoon out, dotting it on, and then slathering it all over your face.I realised that the 1/4 tsp method only works for thicker physical sunscreens, NOT for more the more fluid, mostly-chemical, cosmetically elegant (henceforth referred to as "CE") sunscreens. Most of our CE sunscreens contain ethanol/alcohol denat. as the second, third, or fourth ingredient. It is no secret that Biore and LRP SS contain copious amounts of alcohol (which isn't all that bad despite what Paula Begoun says). The inclusion of all this alcohol ensures that when you spread the SS on your skin, the heat from your skin will make the alcohol evaporate completely, thus making all the silicones and perlite and other mattifying ingredients in your SS 'set' into a nice matte film on your skin. The alcohol basically works as a carrier fluid that evaporates within seconds of you applying the SS, and it effectively dries out the silicones and active ingredients and stuff – which would otherwise be greasy and clumpy on your face.If you want a CE sunscreen to work as optimally as possible and give you the flawless finish it promises, then you have to use it straight out of the bottle. Delaying its journey to your skin by measuring it, and then dotting it on your skin before finally rubbing it in only makes a high % of the alcohol evaporate prematurely. That will contribute to a sub-optimal finish on your skin that will look terrible, and potentially end up clumping/piling and looking greasy later on.For the best results, just shake the bottle, pour enough out for one cheek, rub it in, then pour more for the next, rub it in, then do your forehead, nose, neck, and any other exposed areas of your skin you haven't previously covered. Check out the exchange between me and u/HollaDude at the bottom of this post and check out this video of a model applying Avene sunscreen (the vid is kind of dumb because she applies way too little of it for it to actually be effective + she unnecessarily rubs it with her fingers, but as you can see she doesn't measure 1/4 tsp out nor does she waste too much time before putting it on her face)TL;DR, DO NOT measure out 1/4tsp of your fave CE sunscreen. Just put it on your face and use your intuition to ascertain whether you've applied enough.

[Skin Concerns] I feel like my moisturizer sits on top of my skin looking greasy and doesn't actually do anything
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've tried many different moisturisers and every time I put them on my skin looks/feels really greasy and I feel disgusting and then within an hour or so that look goes away but my skin is just as dry as it was before. I have no idea if this is a valid issue and what's wrong with my skin for this but I would love any advice about what's going on

[Meta] Announcing ScA's first ever HG threads!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone! This is the official announcement that next week, ScA’s first round of HG Product Threads will kick off! We’ve been muddling along with a depleted sidebar fairly well for the past 1,5 years, but really it was high time we set up something to replace the old product recommendations.Holy Grail threads - where users share their favorite products - work really well for our friends over at /r/AsianBeauty and /r/MakeupAddiction, and we thought it’d be a great way to compile useful information and experiences with products! Here’s how it worksAs we want the threads to be easy to navigate, we didn’t want to do just one megathread (or a few). Instead, we’re spreading out the recommendations over a fair number of threads (21 in total). We’re doing two sets of threads:Product threads - these are the threads for specific product types (Moisturizer, Cleanser, etc.). This one starts next week.Skin Concerns threads - these are the threads for specific skin concerns (Acne, Anti-Aging, Rosacea, etc.). We’ll start that one in 6 months. If you want to see a full list of all the scheduled threads, see the schedule here.We will be posting one thread per week. It’ll be posted on a Monday and stickied through to Thursday, so that it gets enough views but doesn’t interfere with the other scheduled stickies.Like AsianBeauty, we’ll have a comment template in the body of the post that you can copy and then use for your discussion of the product. More infoThe threads will be posted by Automoderator, as that’s way less work for us in the long run. We’re currently planning to have him repeat the threads each year, so that the recommendations can stay up to date. We’re planning to link to the recommendation threads from various places in the wiki. Each of the threads will also link to an online survey for feedback, and we’ll also have a feedback post at the end of the Product Threads set. This is the first time we’re doing this, so we’re really eager to hear your perspective - to make sure we can make it as user-friendly as possible. I hope you like it! If you have any questions, let me know :)

[PSA][Research] Sun avoidance reduces risk of skin cancer, BUT increases all cause mortality
Beauty Tips For Body Care
To avoid this reading like the outside of a Lululemon bag, I'll try to include as many links to full papers as is necessary and appropriate. I'm a long time lurker here and credit you all with bringing me from having horrible acne to people wanting to touch my face because of how smooth it is.The common advice on SCA is to stay out of the sun as much as possible. It's true that UV exposure is the most important cause of skin aging, especially in lighter skinned individuals. It can lead to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation ("dark acne scars"). As a public health student, I see people worrying a lot about studies like this showing association between some exposure (e.g. sunlight) and a single outcome (e.g. melanoma). This sort of research certainly has a place, but they make it so much easier to get caught up in the thousands of articles you read every year giving you conflicting information on what exactly you should be doing to stay healthy. In fact, one major study has shown that sun avoiding non-smokers have a similar life expectancy to smokers with high sun exposure. Sun avoiders had up to a 2.1 year lower life expectancy compared to those with high sun exposure. Heart disease and all cause mortality (including cancer) were reduced in the sun exposure group, once their longer lifespans were accounted for.Why did sun exposure lead to longer lives? The answer is probably multifactorial. Of course Vitamin D is probably part of the answer, with its wide array of benefits including on the immune system. Another candidate could be nitric oxide metabolites with their cardiovascular benefits. Though the beauty of the all-cause mortality study is that we don't need to complicate things by figuring out the mechanism without knowing how these different exposures interact with each other. Suffice to say that this author recommends sticking to moderate sunshine like your ancestors evolved to deal with: avoid hours bathing on the beach getting that summer glow, and avoid spending days and days indoors avoiding the sun.Hope you all find this useful! :)

[PRODUCT QUESTION] Niacinamide vs. Vitamin C
Beauty Tips For Body Care
SCA seems to love niacinamide and I've been reading up about it. It seems like it helps for dark spots which is something I am really focusing on atm. I am using the Timeless Vitamin C and it's meh. I mean, I guess it's helping but I can't tell and I'm kind of wanting to try other types of serums. Is there a waiting time for niacinamide like Vitamin C or an exfoliant? I am already using products at night that require a waiting time and I don't want to add too much on to that, so I thought about using the niacinamide in the morning to replace to vitamin c.Which one better helps with dark spots in your experience?Which one do you prefer?

[Skin Concerns] Can purging happen 3 weeks into use?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I started using Azelex 3 weeks ago and just now I'm noticing new pimples pop up. They're popping up in places I tend to get acne but I'm wondering if its normal for a lot of purging to occur 3 weeks in? I always thought purging would occur in the first week. I'm curious if anyone experienced anything similar with Azelex or with Retin A, Differin, Finacea, etc :)

[Product Question] Has anyone tried the brand Filorga?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I noticed Filorga recently, it's quite expensive, so I've been looking for reviews online but haven't seen a lot. The ones I do see are justifying the price tag on the products, so I'm tempted to try them out. Does anyone have experience with this brand?

Skin frosting after 25% Mandelic acid skin now red [skin concerns] help
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have been using 5% glycolic acid serum, I stopped using it 1 day before the mandelic acid. I just used the mandelic acid and it started burning my cheek area, and only that area. I washed it off almost immediately and noticed a few spots lightly frosting which are now very red. I have applied a sh*tload of moisturizer and vaseline but I didn't expect it to get this red or frost at all. I have an event to go to in two days and I am panicking. What to do?

[Routine Help][DIY] Keratosis Pilaris, what I am doing that is sorta working.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been struggling with Keratosis Pilaris for years to the point were my skin (specially around my forearms) was starting to feel like sand paper and I was embarrassed of people grabbing my arm. By all means, it is not as severe as some of the images I've seen googling this but I'd give my condition a solid 6-7/10 in terms of severity. What I've discovered after a lot of research, trying different lotions, seeing different doctors, etc is something that is working for me and my skin is pretty smooth now, so I felt the need to share my results and my routine in case it may help someone else.Step 1- When I shower, I scrub with a homemade mix of coconut oil, honey, and sugar in the raw. (Pretty much 3 tablespoons of sugar per 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, I use the kirkland brand. As for the honey I just add as much as I want, I've noticed it keeps the sugar and coconut from solidifying too much) Keep in mind sugar in the raw has huge pieces which really help scrub your arms. I mean, I get in there. I scrub the outer layer of my skin off to the point my arms look a little red (specially when I first tried this because I was so angry at my skin). Then I rinse off the sugar and get out of the shower. Mind you, I only rinse off the coconut oil which for the most part stays on my skin (mostly my arms) after getting out of the shower.Step 2- I apply Amlactin after I get out of the shower. I am currently not using the extra strength Amlactin because I bought whatever version they have at Costco now.A few points for people who have tried both coconut oil and Amlactin before and haven't had results: Amlactin never really worked for me until I started scrubbing my arms in the shower and applying it soon after. I think all the scrubbing of the outer layer of my skin really helps it get in there. I also wasn't applying coconut oil after showering regularly because I live in Florida, where the heat and the humidity make it so you never want to wear lotion when you're going out and coconut oil just makes you feel so sticky and gross if you just put it on. Maybe if you live in a drier state it works better but not down here, at least not for me. Applying it in the shower really helps me keep it to a minimum but I really think I am still getting some benefit from it.Final notes: My skin is still not perfect. If I don't do this at least 4 times a week my arms become sand paper again. However, when I do this I notice that my skin is much smoother (honestly, down to a 1/10 in terms of severity). I am very happy with my results and I wanted to share what I've been doing since I've read so many things about keratosis pilaris in this forum and I ended up mixing some advise here and there and I ended up with this routine.

[ACNE] Making me suicidal.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I cant take it anymore, my skin is mostly fine except for my damn forehead. I meant I have very tiny black dots on my nose but they dont flare up like my forehead and kind of hard to notice so i dont care. But Im apparently a very good looking guy which makes it all the worse. Its as if its all over my forehead and theres designated red mark spots. I can see alot more bumps but I have to stretch the skin and look it at an angle with light, they have pus too though. Maybe this is karma from being ok up until highschool and never washing my face but for the last 4 years starting like junior year I started to get this. http://i.imgur.com/EiwIV34.jpg http://i.imgur.com/79Wrnut.jpg . What am i suppose to do. Ive been using neutrogena and moisturizing but it seems to not work. Its like every pore has deep embedded dirt and flares up eventually. As soon as it goes away a new group takes its place. And yes i have long hair.

[Miscellaneous] I love reading about everyone's routine. Please share what's your routine been which has helped you achieve perfect skin?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I think it's great to share routines and skin type as it would give everyone an opportunity to assess if they're missing out on some product or ingredient which after necessary research and patch testing, might end up working out for them too! YMMV but it doesn't mean we shouldn't look for inspiration in other people's routine!I'll start with mine:So AML'oreal Men Expert Hydra Energetic Skin Awakening Icy Cleansing GelRating: 6/10 (in its contribution to helping me achieve perfect skin!) - it ends up leaving my skin slightly taut and squeaky after I'm done using it and I'm hoping to replace this soon.Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid - 10/10 (Excellent product and for my acne prone skin it works great to unclog my pores, diminish any new acne and reduce scarring/inflammation)Andalou Naturals Revitalize Serum - 8/10 (Solid serum with an impressive range of antioxidants and HA with no irritants - it's hard to rule out what it's exact contribution has been but I'm sure its worked in conjunction with other products to minimise PIH and increase suppleness of my skin. The main reason I use this serum is because it's so hard to find a good broad spectrum sunscreen with more than one antioxidant which is a pity!)La Roche Posay Anthelios XL 50+ SPF Comfort Cream - 8/10 - it does not break me out which is great and I love its formulation especially to protect against UVA damage. I do wish it made my skin less oily though and it does feel kind of heavy on my skin but I don't care much since I know it provides complete coverage and is non comodegenic).Banana Boat Faces Ultra Protect Loton - 9/10 - I wanted a cheap sunscreen for my hands and neck and this works! It's fragrance free with SPF 50+ and PA +++ (just one short of the coveted-4 star rating) - the high rating is just cause of how cheap it is and cost-effective without compromise on quality. It absorbs really well on my skin on neck and hands (although generally most people would find absorption much better on hands and neck for other products too?)PM: L'oreal Men Expert Hydra Energetic Skin Awakening Icy Cleansing GelRating: 6/10+Wait 20 minutesRetin A 0.025% (tretinoin) - 9/10 - I love it! I hated it first when I started cause it made me purge and made my skin dry and it does still have the ability to make my skin super sensitive but when I objective look back, it's smoothened my skin like crazy! No more CCs (BHA also helped with this btw) and the texture is great. I feel despite sunscreen it's caused me to 'tan' a bit but that's alright- I've been using since June and so I'm relatively pleased with my progress on it. Plan on using it till end of December so I completed 6 months and then might use 0.01% 2-3x a week for maintenance). This is what helped fade some of my most stubborn PIH (it's still working on some) and now that my skin has settled the acne that seems to come up is much smaller and usually just a whitehead which does not leave much trace (again sunscreen might be very crucial in not allowing PIH scars to be intense).Wait 20 minutesCetaphil Moisturizing Cream- 8/10 Just introduced this to combat the slight dryness due to Retin-A and BHA use. I also did not have a good moisturizing element in my skincare (other than the serum which is a pre-moisturiser in many ways) and I wanted something reasonable, cost-effective and basic with known emollients - I don't get ceraVe here otherwise I would have used that! But I do like Cetaphil cream so far, it's helped to soften my skin and take away some of that dryness which had come at the end of my eyes due to the strong regimen I was in).So this is mine--- waiting to hear yours! x

[PSA] We need to talk about this new, incredibly-priced new skincare line from Deciem
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm normally an AB devotee, but we have some big news here in Western skincare. I'm practically running in circles with excitement right now. WHAT IS GOING ON. They have an anhydrous LAA serum for only $6?! And a niacinamide serum for $6 and a dupe of the Skinceuticals B5 gel for $7 and lactic acid serums and peptide serums and an arbutin serum and omg what? HyperventilatingMany of the formulations are very bare bones indeed, more or less just water + star ingredient(s). But skinceuticals sells like 3 ingredients in its B5 gel for $90 so who's complaining? I'm really most impressed with the C serum. Anhydrous LAA serums are (too) uncommon in the current market, and this one is so darn cheap!http://ordinaries.com/product/rdn-vitamin-c-suspension-23pct-ha-spheres-2pct-30mlPersonally I first pulled the trigger on the niacinamide + arbutin serums (PIH is out of control rn) and was delighted to find shipping was free as well (would've gladly paid a few bucks though!) I've never ordered from Deciem before so can anyone who has, confirm if this is normal? website is kinda confusing otherwise. Even when I had the single $6 niacinamide gel in my cart it said $0 for shipping.edit: sorry just noticed the title says "new" twice. I'm just that excited

[Skin Concerns] Skin suffering due to stress, how to perk it up?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been under a lot of stress lately, thanks to poorly managed anxiety and upcoming exams at school. As well as this, where I am is right at the change from winter to spring. I mention these factors because I think they might be influencing the situation. Normally, I have quite clear, glowy skin, with rare breakouts. I still don't have any breakouts, but lately my skin has been seeming dull and oily. The glowy character is gone, the redness on my cheeks is worse than ever, I have a lot of oil on my T-zone and cheekbones, and my skin is flaking around the edges of the nose. My current routine is a simple drugstore cleanser (Neutrogena anti-acne), followed by a moisturiser. I occasionally use peel-off Manuka honey masks, and physical exfoliants about once a month. I am nervous to put any harsher chemicals on my skin, because I have Ehlers Danlos Syndome, so it is very thin and fragile. What should I try in order to lessen the oiliness of my skin, and perk it up to stop it looking dull and sallow?

[Acne] My skin is a disaster, and is ruining my makeup. (x-post with /r/makeupaddiction)

Basically, my makeup and skin are a disaster right now. My foundation looks awful, my dark spots and acne completely shows through no matter what I do, and I look oily and just plain bad. the folks over at /r/makeupaddiction gave me some good tips (try phasing out products, go bare-faced for a few days, though I'm hesitant to do that because my skin is so bad and I have to look decent for work). Just hoping someone might have some specific advice to help me get this under control. Thank you in advance!I also have some discoloration on my cheeks/jawline that always show up in the summer, and am having trouble covering that. It looks like I haven't blended my foundation even though I have - I'm very conscious of not wanting to look like I have a mask on!

[Product Question] Vitamin C Serum with more "slip"?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been using Nufountain c20+ferulic and have seen some pretty nice results from it. However, my bottle is beginning to run out and this time around I was looking for a serum that was less "watery". There was almost no "slip" to the Nufountain and due to that I found myself over applying it in order to completely cover my face. I'd also like something with vitamin e in it. Any suggestions? I was looking at the Timeless version, bit I am worried about the posts I have been seeing regarding unreliable pH reports :-/

[Routine Help] Should I cleanse / remove my makeup before working out?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I play a team sport regularly after work, so always have makeup on (moisturiser, primer, foundation, no mascara). I've got quite sensitive / post-roaccutane skin so just wondering if I should be taking all the makeup off my face & just putting on moisturiser before I play rather than waiting til I get home in the evening? I only wear foundation because I'm self-conscious about my redness which is obviously at its peak while training!I cleanse my face in the morning & evening anyway so don't want to overdo it. I haven't been having problems at the moment, but when my skin's been at its most sensitive it stings whenever I get sweaty, not sure if wearing makeup is going to exacerbate this?

[Acne] [Routine] BHA's and AHA's
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I did a lot of research this morning on BHA's and AHA's, and I think I finally know what they are. Now I'm trying to figure out where to put them in my routine.I just got Benzac Acne Solutions Blemish Clearing Hydrator, which is .5% salicylic acid. I also have Clean and Clear Dual Action Moisturizer, which is also .5% salicylic acid. Finally, I ordered St. Ive's Gentle Daily Exfoliating Pads, which has lactic acid in it.Are these good products to use to battle my moderate acne and closed comedones? I also have Adapalene from the dermatologist, but I don't know how I could work that into my routine either.Thank you!

[Skin Concerns] Is BHA ruining my skin?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
A week ago I started trying out some sample packets from PC's 1% Calm Redness Relief BHA lotion. I had never tried BHA and this was one of the mildest products in the market for starting out. My goal was to reduce the appearance of pores and calm down some redness on my cheek. Well, turns out that two packets were enough to turn my clear combo skin into a mess and now I'm breakout city. I have red pimples on my chin, on my cheeks and on my forehead. My nose shines like nobody's business too. Is this normal or should I discard BHA? I'm so dissapointed because I had read great things about it.

A week ago I started trying out some sample packets from PC's 1% Calm Redness Relief BHA lotion. I had never tried BHA and this was one of the mildest products in the market for starting out. [Skin Concerns] What are the best products to reverse the sun damage on my face (fine lines and dry skin)?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I am quite a pale person and burn VERY easily. I know I have been sunburnt many many times which I know is stupid and finally making me realise I need to stay out of the sun and wear sun cream everyday.I have always struggled with acne but since cutting out dairy I only get one or two spots here and there. I am also getting laser treatment for the redness and marks all over my face. However, the texture of my skin is just horrible! I can especially notice it when I wear makeup. I have fine lines everywhere especially on my forehead. My skin constantly looks dry even though I moisturize and apply serum. The texture just looks rough and my pores are huge! I really want smooth flawless skin. And i assume the years of sun damage has not helped.I have heard people mention Vitamin C serum but I have no clue which one to buy. Also peels ? I am willing to try anything honestly.

[acne] Truth about coconut oil??
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Does anyone know the truth about coconut oil and its effects on the skin? From what I've read, it has a high comedogenic rating, meaning it will likely clog your pores. But a large number of people use it and says it does wonders for their skin, as well as a number of notable facial products. Was curious as to what the truth about it is in relation to breaking out, clogging pores, "oily-ness", etc. or anyone's experiences with it. thanks!!

[Personal] I just got microdermabrasian and now there are little red spots, like I was burned, where there previously weren't.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I got it done at a Spa and I asked the lady who did it about it and she said it "should" go away. It looks like little red cuts.

[Skin Concerns] Terrible Hand Eczema that Threatens to End My Career
Beauty Tips For Body Care
New poster here. I've been suffering from hand eczema for a year and a half now. It would come, then I'd use hydrocortizone on it, and it would go away. In the last six months however, it's gotten incredibly bad. My entire right hand became unusable. It was red and dry, with various blisters, open wounds, infections, and weeping puss. The hydro didn't work anymore. My hand felt like I had shoved it into a fire ant nest and I got no sleep at night. I've been to three dermatologists and they all diagnosed it as hand eczema and gave me medication for it.I tried Triamcinolone Acetonide cream at first, and it worked for a week before the eczema returned in full force. I was then given the strongest stuff, Clobetasol Propionate cream and followed the directions to the letter. Used it for two weeks along with a moisturizing regiment and my hands were finally cured. For a week. And then it came back, slowly at first. I couldn't use the medication anymore because I had to wait a full two weeks before using it again. Sure enough, it got worse and worse. I tried using the Clob again for two weeks and this time, it almost cleared up. But not all the way and within a day, the eczema has come back. It isn't as bad as it has been due to my skin care regiment, but it's not getting better either. I need help to control my eczema once and for all. I've pretty much scoured the internet for any advice, remedies, and concoctions to see what might work. Doctor told me to quit my career, but I've already put a great deal of effort into this and I can't just quit. I know it'll be here for the rest of my life, but I need to have some kind of control over it so I can continue with my career. So some information on my job, skin care regiment, and research. I'm latino and I have a swarthy complexion. Never had issues with dry skin before I became a cook. The eczema is predominantly on my right hand, covering all of my fingers, the heel and the palm of my hand. On my left hand, it is nowhere near as bad. Small patches here and there, mostly on my thumb and finger tips.I'm a prep cook at a high volume, full service restaurant in South Florida. High stress and no breaks means I generally graze for food or wolf down a messed up order that comes back. I've been trying to eat better, but working these hours makes that difficult. I know stress and diet are two big factors for eczema. I stopped using latex gloves and instead use powderless vinyl for work. The eczema makes it hard to do anything with my right hand. Can't hold a knife when it flares up bad. I also waste time reapplying petroleum jelly after I change gloves. In terms of laundry, we make our own and I believe it does use a soap, but there is no fragrance. I don't use fabric softener on my cotton gloves.Products: For body wash, I switched to Cetaphil Restoraderm Eczema Calming Body Wash. Seems to work. For hand washing, I use Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Hydrating Cleanser. I keep this with me at work to use instead of the soap we have. Both came recommended by the NEA and they seem to have a positive effect on my skin.I also use White Petroleum Jelly. Nothing special, just Walgreens brand. I use it after washing hands or using any moisturizer. It seems to keep my hands protected.I use Aveeno Eczema Therapy. It works for a bit, but then it just kinda quits after a week.Natural Remedies: So far, the stuff I've used that seem to help are the following:Apple Cider Vinegar Soak: Pretty much use a 1:5 ratio of ACV and lukewarm water. I soak in the morning and at night for thirty minutes. It killed the infection I had on my hands and stops them from itching.Coconut Oil: This seemed to really help as well. Though I used too much and it caused some bad acne on one of my hands, so I use less of it now.Sea Water Spray: Basically boiled filtered water with sea salt and a little bit of epsom salt. It seems to work.Other stuff: Some other stuff here I've usedBaking Soda Paste: I used this for a bit, but I honestly did not notice a change for the better, so I've since stopped.Tea Tree Oil: Doesn't work. Just makes me smell bad.Iodine: Stopped the itching, but makes my skin cracked.Witchhazel: same as the Iodine, but not as severe cracking.Shea Butter: I started using this today. I found some recipe that calls for three parts shea butter, two parts baking soda, and one part coconut oil with a drop or two of lavender oil. I have used it twice so far. Seems okay, but too early to tell.My Regiment. In the morning or at night after I leave work, I wash my hands with the Neutrogena, then I soak my hands in the ACV water mix for half an hour. After that, I pat it dry, then spray it with the sea salt spray and pat it dry again. Then I use a moisturizer, the coconut oil, or, in the case of today, the shea butter mixture, and then follow it with the petroleum jelly. After all of that, I wear a fresh pair of 100% cotton gloves and I'm done. Generally throughout the day, I'll reapply the petroleum jelly, especially after my hands get wet. I do this every day and while it hasn't gotten worse, it really hasn't gotten better.I have some pictures as well. I took them just now after my regiment. It's a little gross.http://imgur.com/9MP2eMFhttp://imgur.com/3IfaN9Rhttp://imgur.com/R8SqdpHhttp://imgur.com/tFjNdqVI hope someone can help me.EDIT: Almost forgot, I started using Benadryl last night to reduce the inflammation

[Acne] My face is super red and I'm tired of wearing makeup, how should I sort it out?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have had redness in my face since I was 10-11 years old. It's a combination of broken blood vessels, moderate acne, pale skin, and my face just flushing frequently. It is a very unnattractive look and has prompted me to cycle through dozens of products to try and conceal my face. I have ruled out roscea, I have no irritation in my skin and I'm only 17.I have combination skin, which results in an abundant sprinkling of acne combined with dryness all around my face, primarily in my chin and forehead, and general sensitivity to most things.Right now I am using Tretinoin Gel 0.025% and Clindamycin Phosphate Topical Solution USP 1%. I don't have the resources to obtain any prescriptions beyond this, so I am currently trying to figure out what I can do to get even skin naturally. The two medications have proven to be relatively helpful, they don't completely eliminate my acne but they clear out most of it. I pick at my acne which I've been trying to quit.Right now the plan is to try avoiding wearing makeup this week so I can focus on clearing my skin. I don't go outdoors too much so I figured I can safely use my two acne medications both during day and night. On top of that I will be using tea tree oil on individual spots. In the night and morning I will use Cetaphil gentle cleanser, and at night after doing this I will put on witch hazel toner. At the end of the week I'll probably do more intense exfoliation. Is this plan good, or would it prove to be more detrimental to my skin? Are there any products you all would recommend for reducing redness/acne and providing an even skin tone? Here's a link to my face: https://m.imgur.com/TNQqzux

[PSA] Paula's Choice Customer Support response to price hike (in Australia)
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi my fellow SCAers - after the response to the Paula's Choice price hike thread yesterday, I thought I would post this email. I wrote an angry email to Paula's Choice Australia (as I live & shop for their products in Australia) when they upped their prices in the Australia online store. This is the Customer Support response I received:We appreciate the time taken to fully express your concerns and provide the feedback on the noticeably more dramatic price increase on our targeted treatments and anti-ageing products. We completely understand frustrations surrounding this higher increase on these products in comparison to the increase of our other essential products such as cleansers, toners, and moisturisers. We hope to have the chance to further explain the reasoning for this higher increase in price, for these particular items. We want to reassure you that Paula’s Choice – in all departments of the company - make these decisions on pricing increases with extreme caution and base these careful decisions on the feedback provided to us from our customers. Everything relating to the ingredients we use, the type of packaging a product is produced in, and formulations of your favourite Paula’s Choice products are adjusted where seen fit, based on reviewing the feedback we received from our loyal customers, such as yourself. We heard from our dedicated long time customers that quality is the utmost important aspect when choosing the products they use on their skin, and we continually strive to provide our customers with the safest, most effective ingredients and packaging that is available in the beauty industry today. In order to accomplish this – Paula’s Choice has to expand the resources used, as well as access new and innovative technology that makes us capable to provide our customers with the best skin care products available on the market in this day and age.Of course, using higher-quality ingredients, utilising new technology and techniques, seeking out safer/stronger packaging, and sourcing the highest quality raw materials, ultimately increases manufacturing costs substantially, which unfortunately impacts the cost of the product for all parties. For all of these reasons, we chose to make these pricing alterations to support the need to supply them to our beloved customers – such as you!We hope you understand that Paula and our product development team only make these choices after careful consideration. Our properly formulated, effective, and innovative anti-ageing formulas still remain lower-priced than those of our competitors, and we're very proud of their success. If you have any questions or concerns surrounding an anti-ageing treatment from Paula’s Choice, please do not hesitate to contact us back and we would be happy to help! You may find that researching our expert advice articles helpful in learning more about anti-ageing ingredients and why our formulas are so unique in this time and age of the beauty industry.Have a wonderful day,PAULA'S CHOICE AUSTRALIA CUSTOMER CARE

[Acne] Subcision Best Practices? Could use some advice!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I'm just going to jump into it:I'm a 26F and have dealt with severe acne and acne scarring my entire life. Recently I visited a dermatologist and asked about procedures that can help reduce the scarring, and she mentioned Subcision. It was the first I had ever heard of it. After doing some initial research, I am convinced that it can help my scarring. But I have a couple of questions I can't seem to find the answers to. So if anyone has experience with this, I would really appreciate some advice.1: I live in California. My dermatologist has quoted me $1200 for the first procedure, and $800 for a second one which she suspects I will need. Is this a reasonable quote from a professional?2: How do you make sure your dermatologist is good at a procedure like this? She is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, and and a couple of other medical and dermatological associations. But I don't know where to find reviews or anything about her. Normally I wouldn't be so hesitant to trust a doctor, but because this is a procedure on my face, I want to be 100% confident that she is going to do a good job.

[Acne] Officially crying. Need help figuring out what these bumps on my face are, please...(Pictures inside)
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Every day it gets worse. I wash my sheets with gentle detergent. I use a gentle cleanser. I use a super gentle moisturizer. I wipe down my phone daily. I've tried AHA. BHA. BP. I've tried stripping my routine. I've gone to a dermatologist. I was prescribed two things which seem to have made my problem even worse. I've never had issues like this with my skin in my life and I feel like it's out of my hands and this is the first time I've ever cried about my skin after exhausting all of my options. Please, if you have ANY insight whatsoever, it would be hugely appreciated. I know it doesn't look THAT bad but the photos barely do it justice, and I get at least four-five new bumps/red spots DAILY without the old ones budging at ALL. I'm panicking.https://i.imgur.com/XT259k4.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/66WxIax.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/kMOeQv0.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/8Mm8uw4.jpgAny help is greatly appreciated...:'( I know none of you are doctors but I'm just at the end of my rope here and could really use some support. Symptoms include some itchiness. Skin type is...I don't even freaking know anymore (my skin is just going insane lately and I can't tell if it's oily or dry or what at this point).

[Skin Concerns] Preventing scarring on my face
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi all,I had an accident last night and sustained some large scrapes to the left side of my face, from my forehead down to my nose. Took a piece of my eyebrow, too. They're thankfully not deep gashes, but the skin is scraped off in fairly large swathes.I've been putting tons of neosporin on and trying to keep the wounds clean. Does anyone have any advice to prevent scars? I'm afraid I'm pretty susceptible to them and would like to avoid having a reminder of what happened on my face for the next few years.I know exfoliation (and scar gel?) could help after healing, but the scrapes are still really fresh and I was wondering if there is anything I could be doing now. Thank you.

[Acne] I haven't broken out in months and I'm mildly frightened?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been on upkeep with a good and gentle routine: AHA and BHA every other day, washing with low pH cleanser and konjac sponge 3 times a week, sheet masks, serum and cream moisturizer, no makeup and no touching. For almost 3 months, I have not experienced a single breakout. No cysts, no pimples (except for 3 or 4 tiny superficial whiteheads), no rashes or redness. I have gone through 2 menstrual cycles that would usually destroy my complexion, but they passed with zero complications. I'm not in the best place mentally or emotionally, I've been sleeping a lot and very stressed; My diet has ranged from clean to total garbage and still no change. I'm eating no carbs/sugar and little dairy right now and my skin is glowing. Is this normal? I've had the same routine for half a year but have not seen these results up until recently. Not a year ago I was struggling with persistent acne and cysts and I figured that I wouldn't "outgrow" that since nobody in my family has either, but at 18 years old I'm kind of shocked. I'm worried that this is a sign of something wrong with my health, like a significant change in hormones or something. Is this cause for concern? Is there any kind of ailment that can cause clear skin as a side effect? This all sounds unreasonable now that I'm reading it over but I'm paranoid enough that yesterday I considered setting up an appointment with a dermatologist. I thought I would be happy once I finally had clear skin but now it feels like I've achieved something I shouldn't have or like something is wrong with me. Now I'm stepping on eggshells when it comes to my skin and I'm afraid that any change will make my face crash and burn. Has anybody else gone from bad to good in a similar fashion? I'd really appreciate and be thankful for any advice.

[Acne] Tiny pimples emerging where a cyst used to be - anyone else get this?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I had some deep pimples/cysts about a year ago. They've been gone for several months, leaving behind some PIE that is maddeningly slow to fade. But the worst thing is that little pimples and blackheads will pop up in that area with far more frequency than anywhere else on my face. It's like the infection is still there, which freaks me out. Has this happened to anyone else?FYI, my routine involves washing with a basic cleanser, applying a topical retinoid every few nights, applying Paula's Choice BHA liquid every few days or nights, moisturizer as needed, and sunscreen every day.

[Acne] [Anti-aging] anti- aging moisturiser for hyper pigmentation and acne?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi guys looking for a recommendation for a good moisturiser. I have combination skin which is particular acne prone around my chin area resulting in some hyper pigmentation issues. I'm also in my mid 20s and starting to become concerned with preventing ageing. I'd love a good moisturiser recommendation that may be able to cover all these needs, price point isn't really an issue and any help would be much appreciated!

Is my skin purging after one month of using BHA? [Acne]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Background: I have always struggled with some amount of acne and oily skin. Much of it was hormonal so taking the pill helped although it never cleared up fully. Usually I have a few big pimples a month. Then last year I started getting more breakouts (than the usual), and the type and location changed too. Instead of big ones on the forehead or chin I had a bunch of small itchy ones clustered together on my cheek.Current situation: A month ago I decided to try using cosrx BHA in an attempt to clear my skin. I did notice a slight increase in breakouts so I assumed I was purging. I have been using the BHA for a month, and while some of the initial spots have gotten better, I recently started getting small pimples on my forehead and chin. Can purging start that late? I thought maybe it was a reaction to the product, but if that was the case wouldn't it have caused the breakouts sooner? This pic is of the most recent forehead acne http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh629/pippercorn/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20160828_223648_zpsv0f9gysv.jpgThis one is of the cheek acne that I've been having for a few months. http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh629/pippercorn/Mobile%20Uploads/c46ffda8-0722-44cf-8508-57268e99f864_zps8zmzwiah.jpgShould it stop the BHA or give it some more time?

[Acne] A Good Replacement for Paula's Choice's 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant? & Toner Recommendations?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I was wondering if anybody has a good recommendation for a liquid exfoliant and a toner.I used to use Paula's Choice, but I ran out. Ever since then, my skin has been going crazy (cystic acne & white heads everywhere). It's clearing up a little since I got a prescription cleanser and gel from my dr (clindamycin & BP), and I've been using witch hazel toner, but I want to try something else.Is there a better/cheaper alternative for Paula's Choice liquid exfoliant? Or should I just repurchase it?Also, any toner recommendations? I want to try the Dr. Jart dermaclear micro water. Has anyone tried it? Thoughts?

[Acne] I am feeling hopeless, need some positivity and help.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
(Sorry for the long post I would really appreciate some help, I really am lost right now. :( (Pictures of my acne below) Alright first let me show you some pictures of my skin earlier this year in march (first picture) and now what it looks like (second picture and third): http://imgur.com/a/HjCL9 To give you a little bit of a back story I have never been confident about my skin even in the first picture, which now I take for granted. I really don;t know what happened, maybe puberty or hormones as I turned 16? I can never stop thinking about how bad my skin looks now, that is literally all I ever think about and I avoid mirrors and being right beside people because I can't stand it. I feel sad, hopeless a little depressed. Also, my skin is always very red and makes it look worse, so I try using a sebum lotion thing to sooth it, but god knows if that does anything. as Now let me run you down with what I do to try and help my skin or make it worse, I really don't know. In the first picture my routine was: Morning and night: wash with spectro gel, sometimes tone, maybe benzaclin gel or nothing, then just moisturize. Now-a-days my routine is all over the place because I can't decide on what works best. I just recently visited the dermatologists and he said that it shouldn't scar too bad. In the second picture it looks a lot worse than what it really was but I want to over exaggerate it. That was after a fresh wash, toning and applying some benzaclin. That brings up another question I have. My skin is rather really dry, so I put on moisturizer, but then it gets extremely oily so I rinse my face with water and it gets dry again. Man this sucks. Anyways, my routine now isn't 100% the same everyday. Usually, in the morning I will wash my face with just water, then apply some benzaclin. At night, I will rather wash my face with a neutorgena anti-acne cleanser or just regular soap, tone depending how dry it feels, apply tactupump gel (every other night) and then sometimes moisturize. I really don't know what I should be doing and I need help. The dermatologists wasn't very helpful as he didn't tell me what kind of acne I have, and really didn't run me down with that I should be doing exactly for my routine. Really my main concern is the scarring. It may look a lot worse in the pictures, but my skin is just very clogged with gunk everywhere. I tried exfoliating to help with that, but they all just fill up the next morning. The redness as I said makes it look a lot worse than it is. I really don't want it to scar and it sucks because I didn't have any of this earlier in the year, just a little bit. Thanks for reading all this and I would appreciate the help. Have a good day.

[Misc] Where to keep it all?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
HI All, I read the sidebar and searched this out, so I hope I'm not way off here. My gf is way into skincare and loves trying new things. She's built up a pretty big collection and I'd love to get a nice way to store it so it's not only neat and attractive in our space, but accessible for her as well. The previous post I saw on this mentioned a tackle box and a cosmeticIan case, but I was hoping for something more attractive that could fit on a dresser. Any advice? Thanks!

[Acne] I have flare-ups of fungal acne on my chest and back every few months- can this spread to my face?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I had a flare up while on vacation in July, and ever since then have noticed so many closed comedones on my cheeks and jawline- none reacted to any BHAs or AHAs that I tried. Been on a couple antibacterial prescriptions for a week or so (short time- I know!) and have seen zero improvement (but I'll keep trying).Has anyone had fungal body acne that has somehow spread to their face? I'm wondering if I was touching my chest too much and then touching my face, but I have no clue if this can even be transmitted this way...forgive me if this is a really dumb question. I'm just at my wits end trying to figure out what the heck is wrong with my face (so self conscious in public now...gah.)Thank you!

[acne] I got my girlfriend acne recurring after gifting lotion
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So my girlfriend is 23 always had clear skin since 17. So this happened since last Christmas. I know her skin was sensitive so after looking around I gifted her the face shop chia skin oil for daily skin refreshment as a gift. She had a severe allergic reaction, after it died down with medication she has been getting acne again on a regular basis, and since then I have been trying to find solutions and have yet to find something to cure my girlfriend's acne problem. She went to doctors and they just told her to put unscented lotion. But this doesnt help at all, I was wondering if there are any possible suggestions or solution for someone who had a similar situation. I'm stressed too don't know what to do to help her.

[Personal] [Anti-Aging] So, I've been mixing tretinoin with sunflower seed oil...
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I more recently read how tretinoin is water-free and that water actually interferes with its effectiveness.According to the dermadoctor website: " [...] water bonds with any retinoid and makes it more likely to cause irritation. What’s the #1 ingredient in any skincare product you could ever choose? That’s right, water. Retinoids are always a solo act. Never layer a moisturizer, night cream or anything else you can think of with it."I will moisturize, wait 30 minutes, then mix tretinoin with more moisturizer. I simply cannot apply it to a washed, but un-moisturized face (and need the additional moisturizer for spreadability). This method, however, has always resulted in flaky, irritated skin that takes several days (with use of a petroleum/paraffin product over dampened skin) to resolve.So...I've been mixing tretinoin with sunflower seed oil, instead, before applying. What I'm finding is a HUGE reduction in both irritation and the dreaded "flakies". My skin is no longer dry and tight upon waking. This seems to reflect the results of one study, in which sunflower seed oil was shown to "significantly improved skin barrier function recovery, with an effect that was sustained 5 hours after application." http://dermatologytimes.modernmedicine.com/dermatology-times/news/skin-barrier-benefits-sunflower-seed-oil?page=0,1I thought I'd pass on my own little experimentation and perhaps help others who struggle with tretinoin irritation. I can't find much on mixing oils with retinoids (save for a few nays from docs on realself.com), but...It's been working for me!

Curology: Expiration dates and keeping them in the fridge to prolong life? [Product Question]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone! I looove Curology and it's really helped my skin, but I'm beginning to think I need to cancel my subscription to save money. I was considering increasing the frequency of my shipments and stocking up for a few months and then returning to the service at a later time when I can afford it.The bottles all have a discard date, so I'm wondering if this would make any bottles I save/try to use sparingly during my time off useless, or is this just to discourage the kind of behavior I'm considering? If it really does expire so quickly, could putting my bottles in the fridge keep them fresh for longer? Or would that somehow harm the formula? Thanks for the help!

[Acne] A pimple under the skin by my lip has gotten fucking enormous. What's should I do?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
This shit is way out of control. I thought it had a head and tried poping it. Didn't work, got bigger and harder. Then I tried exfoliating and using my prescription tretinoin x. Didn't work, got bigger and harder. One half looks like a deformed kylie jenner lip, the other normal. To make matters worse, I have class tomorrow and I kind of want to shave, my facial hair is getting to be a bit much. What do I do?

[PSA] Paula's Choice Significant Price Increase
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So, I was browsing PC yesterday, and I realized my cart had gone up almost 10 bucks! Some products went up around 5 dollars (like the Clear SPF and some PC4MEN products, which now cost the same as their gender neutral counterparts), products from the RESIST line went up 3 to 4 dollars, and the rest went up a dollar or two. Also, I just realized that the cleansers and toners from the new Calm line come in much smaller containers, making them around 50% more expensive than the old versions (many of which were identical and only repackaged, like the Moisture Boost Cleanser).

[routine help] New to skincare, need advice pls.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have small white heads on my forehead and some on my cheeks, some red spots (i think these are called papules, but i'm not too sure- they're not poppable but they're not huge) and big pores that get noticeably clogged. I think it's called sebaceous filaments, from what I read in the sidebar. I can post a pic if this isn't enough or if unclear.I'm currently only using http://www.thebodyshop.ca/en/whats-new/top-rated-products/tea-tree-skin-clearing-facial-wash.aspx and coconut oil after twice a day. Any recommendations are appreciated- thank you so much!

[Skin Concern] Does anyone else get greasy/oily/sweaty really easily? How do you control it..
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Nothing seems to work.Currently all I do is cleanse, use Paula's choice BHA 2 x a day but that doesn't really dry me out I don't think and that's it.I don't use anything else on my face. What can I use. These oil control creams don't really do anything for me. I have no idea what to do!!Clean my face less often? Reduce acids use? Am I missing a great product to stop oily skin?

[Skin concern] White patch that won't go away on my foot palm. What is it and what can I do about it?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey,I've been having a big white patch on my foot palm for a while now. I think it was to do with when I walked in heels for about 8 hours one evening, because I had an insane burning sensation on that exact place during & afterwards. But when I took my shoes off, the skin was looking normal. However, a few days afterwards this (link to picture: http://imgur.com/a/d3fKh) white patch showed up - no pain, no nothing. It just looks like an outer layer of dead skin or something, kind of like a pocket. Regardless of what it is, do you think this is ever going to go away? I'm not really worried about how it looks and feels because I have no pain as previously mentioned, what worries me is why it haven't gone away in such a long time. I'm quite fond of my feet and take very well care of them, so it's annoying that this patch is still there after 4-5 months. Any experiences with something similar?

[Skin concerns] Do I definitely have Rosacea?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Is this definitely Rosacea ? Bit of a backstory, around may time I generally had a few spots over my face, normal teenage acne I reckon, one day I went into the sun for a solid 3 hours straight, no sun tan lotion, got pretty burnt over my body, but still had the few spots. Then came June and my mum thought it'd be a good idea to "get rid of the dead skin", so she said it would be beneficial to take (5%?) benzoyl peroxide and rub it into my cheeks and forehead pretty vigorously, which made my skin baby smooth, but also slightly red and a few more spots along with it. This was probs when my skin was at its worst. I had a dance about a week later and in all the photos, I noticed red circles on my cheeks with spots. Never thought much of it, just thought it was general acne. So I started looking into acne medications, went and bought zinc and vitamin a, they definitely helped. Start of July and I went to a festival. Very hot weather and lots of alcohol, never really paid attention to my skin but when I got home, my skin was good, maybe one or two spots, no redness, very tanned, so I thought the sun was really helpful to me and decided to hit the sun beds, twice in one week, got a nice tan. Skin continued to be very nice until I went to see the dermatologist, she told me I have acne Rosacea. So then I went to see my gp and was prescribed Soolantra. Been on it for three weeks now, seen an initial improvement and my skin is very smooth, but I have just started getting a lot more redness on my cheeks overall and from old spots (check photo). Sorry for the huuuuge paragraph on my skin story, but can anyone help me out ? Basically, do I definitely have acne Rosacea ? And also will MSM oral or topical help with my type of redness ? The weirdest thing is alcohol doesn't flare me up and the sun just makes my skin red which calms down soon after, just heat and spicy foods makes me red. Really just want to go back to what my skin was like a year ago :(

[Skin concerns] What has happened to my face?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello,So a year ago or something I started to develop this very uneven skin and little dots all across my face, most notably on my cheeks. Here is a gallery on imgur so hopefully someone will be able to identify.I am able to squeeze them but its difficult since they are so small and not worth it as they turn irritated, most of the time it's possible to remove a tiny bit of pus however. Some of them are also regular black spots which I always had in my T-zone but never on the cheeks before. It's not the end of the world as it's not noticeable from afar (at least I'd like to think so) but I think it's strange that I began to develop it out of seemingly nowhere (Im 26, male).Suggestion for what to do to get rid of them and/or what it might be are very appreciated.

[Acne] Should I be feeling a burning sensation when I use antiseptic cream?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So lately I've gotten Acne on my left cheek(bout a month and a half ago). So I started using Loreal Pairs Men expert Volcano Red Foamhttps://dynamic.zacdn.com/kjMZ0fS3QW5udGKgQBqYIaW2wCg=/fit-in/346x500/filters:quality(95):fill(ffffff)/http://static.sg.zalora.net/p/l-oreal-paris-5710-541393-1.jpgand Himalaya Herbals Acne - n - pimple cream to fight them.http://apotekaweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/44.jpgUnfortunately, they don't seem to be working out so I switched the Himalaya Herbals cream to an antiseptic cream(foreign brand) that apparently worked wonders for my nephew.I notice a burning sensation everything I sleep though with this new antiseptic cream. I've been on it for like a week and a half now and the acne seems to be getting worse(the right side of my face seems to be acting up).Any advice on what I should do? Thanks in advance.

[Acne] This might be a stupid question, but can I be genetically prone to have more acne on my left cheek than on my right cheek?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
If it's not that, then I have really no idea. I do nothing different on my left side compared to my right side, yet my right side has one or two pimples, and my left side is covered in them. I try to sleep on my right side as much as I can, and I change pillowcases every two days. There has to be something that I am completely missing out other than genetics, of course.EDIT: I didn't post my routine because it's not relevant.

[Acne] My face is a field of disgusting land mines.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I don't know what to do with my face anymore. I was introduced to this sub by a friend, and now I'm putting myself in yall's capable hands.https://imgur.com/a/Ar7MaHere's the rundown: my skin looks dry here, but only because I had just gotten out of the shower. It actually gets incredibly oily during the day, and subsequently very sensitive.I don't have a solid routine, but I do occasionally use African black soap morning and night. That's all I put on skin. I don't know to handle the scarring, let alone the actual acne. I drink plenty of water, wash my pillowcases frequently, etc.....This acne does not go away. What you see here is almost always on my face, consistently, in some sort of "phase"- it can be red and tender and inflamed one day, and then it will subside the next day and recede "inside" the skin.any and all help is desperately welcomed and appreciated. Thank you all.

[acne] 22m: Not seeing consistent results, need help.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey /r/skincareaddition,I've been lurking for a few weeks after being prescribed various forms of tretinoin. Long story short: Was recently informed that I officially have cystic acne, and have been dealing with it since 13 w/ varying results.I believe I have oily, acne prone skin. I've tried the below-mentioned clinique 3-step program (2x day, for the past 5 years) which cleared up most of my acne (75-80%). Recently prescribed tretinoin to try and clear up the last 20-25%. Afraid that I may need a new routine to compensate for the tret. Afraid of using new products because of a fear of breakout which can cause new scars and take 1-2 weeks to get rid of.I've noticed that most of my breakouts are food-related: Pretty-heavy lactose-intolerant (butter/milk/any dairy whatsoever), no beef/pork, brown sugar, fried foods.Current routine -- Morning: Clinique 3 set program (w/ bar soap instead of foam), sunscreen afterwardsNight: Clinique bar soap, tretinoin .1%, sunscreen then vaseline afterwards.Current routine leaves me with consistent acne around the chin/upper lip, with the tretinoin causing the skin below my lower lip to peel when the moisturizer loses its effectiveness (~8 hrs from application). Typically deal with dry, flaky skin in public or hope I'm at home where I can put some vaseline on it.I'll be the first to mention I'm really wandering around in the dark here and can use whatever help I can get. May be meeting w/ the dermatologist in the near future to have some sort of pill prescribed to help because I'm not sure what to do.Hope to hear from you guys soon.

[Miscellaneous] I found a (possibly great) knockoff for Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser for $1!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I was in my local Dollar General today, and noticed something new in the dollar aisle! It's a "compare to Cetaphil" cleanser. I snagged it because it to try because it was so cheap! The ingredients are all the same, and upon using it, it has that same kind of silky, hand sanitizer-y feel to it. I couldn't get the pump to open strangely enough, but that isn't a super big deal for me because it was a dollar.I've used it once (tonight) but I can update in a few days or so!Photos:Cetaphil ingredients- http://imgur.com/5fNbTnZKnockoff Perfect Purity ingredients- http://imgur.com/PJmZzsHBacks of bottles- http://imgur.com/AJ9dvvnFronts of bottles- http://imgur.com/Su3q5Lm 1

[Sun care] Today I learned that a lot of sunscreen filters do not protect in the UVA1 range.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Today as I was reading up on some sunscreens i stumbled upon the fact that a lot of sunscreen filters do not protect against the upper end of the UVA1 spectrum. It started with the discovery that PA and PPD ratings primarily focus on the UVA2 spectrum and not the UVA1 spectrum. So you can get a PA++++ rating with out protecting skin against the majority of the UVA1 range. I started looking for sunscreen filters that do protect against the majority of UVA1 rays and all I could find was avobenzone, Zinc oxide, and Tinosorb M. Does anyone know any more information on this subject? Also I was trying to find an Asian sunscreen with Tinosorb M and came up with nothing...

[Misc] Your HG hyaluronic acid serum/lotion?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi all, In my long skincare addiction quest, I've so far found two HG products, my Vitamin C (drunk elephant) and sunscreen (PC resist).I'm about to run out of Hada Labo hyaluronic acid lotion. Before I buy another bottle of it, I wanted to know if anyone else has discovered a go-to knockout item. Either serum or lotion. Sometimes I use that Japanese sheet mask method, so I'm looking for something that works well with that. Thanks all!

[Routine Help] I wash my hands over 100 times a day for work - and am paying for it dearly with cracked bleeding cuticles.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I am a nursing student and soon to be nurse. At my job, in my placements in hospitals, and now as a habit, I wash my hands well over 100 times a day (rough estimate...could be a lot more). Sometimes with soap and water but almost always with alcohol based hand rub.Several years ago I had these beautiful cuticles.. http://imgur.com/a/0SyAANow my hands are cracked, bleeding, chunks of my cuticles are "missing", I have new hangnails every day, and all-over dryness.I try to not wash or bathe with water that is too hot or cold, use moisturising hand soap, a moisturiser every every chance I get, especially in the morning and before bed. I have started using cuticle oil in the morning and at night. But my hands, and especially my cuticles and around my nails remains cracked, ugly and sore.I'm wondering if I can get moisturiser recommendations or routine suggestions. I need something that is really going to heal my hands and keep them healthy. I feel very uncomfortable having so many small cuts and "entry points" on my hands for bacteria/germs.PRODUCTS: * Moisturiser: Vaseline Intensive Care Healthy Hands Stronger Nails Lotion * Soap: Dove Cool Moisture Hand Soap * Cuticle Oil: Burts Bees Cuticle Creme

[Acne] I'm an idiot and spent 2 hours squeezing my face. My face has now been swollen for 8+ hours. What should I do?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I had one of those zits that felt deep but wasn't surfacing. It started to look dark underneath so I got worried and tried to pop it...for 2 hours. I used my knuckles and just kept massaging the area to get sebum out, little by little. Once I was finished, I realized my cheek and part of my eye were swollen so much it was affecting my vision. It actually looks like I've been punched in the face!I know this was totally stupid of me, not sure why I thought this would turn out well 😧 Is there anything I can do? I've been icing it all day and took some Aleve. Should I be more concerned?Edit: Thanks everyone! I'm headed to the Urgent Care right now. Hoping it's not MRSA.

[Product Question] Alternative to La Roche Posay Toleriane Fluid??
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm sort of freaking out cus I'm just about to run out of my bottle and I found out that it's discontinued earlier today. Oh, no... Does anyone have any suggestions to this? My skin hates fatty alcohols so those are no-gos. I also really like the feeling of fluids instead of creams.Does anyone have a suggestion for alternatives?

[Routine Help] Vitamin C Serum and Niacinamide Cleansers?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello SCA. Thanks for all the great resources and product recommendations. Unfortunately, I bought a vitamin C serum (http://www.ulta.com/vitamin-c-serum?productId=xlsImpprod6200689) and a cleanser with niacinamide (http://www.ulta.com/foaming-facial-cleanser?productId=xlsImpprod5140065). I've read that for maximum benefits you should use vitamin C in the morning and evening which I may do once I ensure that this doesn't break me out.During a spot test on my chin yesterday the serum seemed fine, but when I put it on half of my face after cleansing this morning it turned a little red and then returned to normal. Is that a reaction with the Niacinamide?I guess my questions are 1) Can these two products be combined? 2) If yes, what wait time should I use? 3) How often should you actually use a vitamin C serum because I've heard every couple of days and twice a day and I'm not sure which direction to go in?

[acne] was having no luck solving acne issues until I was put on sulfatrim for a kidney infection which completely cleared up my face, now that the kidney infection is gone the acne is coming back.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi all!I started having blemishes in Nov 2014. Nothing crazy just consistently had at least 2-5 zits on my face at any given time, without any real skin care regiment to speak of. Decided to start taking skin care seriously and actually doing research into what I was meant to put on my face and what I should be using for my skin type etc. My skin just continuously got worse since then, coming to a head in March when both my cheeks and back decided to burst out into painful cystic acne. I was prescribed dalacin in the bingo dabber thing, and retina a. Both of which made it worse. I was put on BC, nothing changed. I've been extremely meticulous about my skin care routine. Still nothing changed. Then I got a nasty kidney infection and was put on sulfatrim and my face completely cleared up. I still had scars but had no active cysts or zits at all. I have yet to see an actual derm. Still waiting for my appt. I've only been prescribed meds from GPs at walk in clinics. Not sure how to proceed from here. The acne is slowly starting to come back. Was gone for a good two months. What does that say about my skin? Do I have a skin infection? Skin care is so confusing.

[acne] A reminder to get sleep
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey folks, I've struggled with acne for several years. I've found that one thing that works well for me is just getting enough sleep and avoiding stress. And it's not just about sleeping enough each week: in college I would often pull all-nighters working and then catch up on sleep over the weekend. During breaks I noticed when I got lots of sleep every night, my face would be clearer. And now a random question: is it possible I need both the cleansers for "normal to oily" and "normal to dry" skin? Sometimes my face feels really dry, and sometimes I have a lot of acne.

[Selfie] Positive selfie thread (post a picture and receive positive feedback!)
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi! I'm a first time poster to this sub but a longtime lurker. I'm not sure if this is allowed but I was thinking that maybe we could do a positive selfie thread where people post pictures of their faces (or their skin, or whatever they're comfortable with). Then other users can compliment and encourage the posters.I know it's really easy to get depressed and upset over the state of your skin (I have a ton of PIH and some large sebaceous pimples myself) and I think it might be uplifting to get some compliments on your face! We're always our own worst critics and it can be really meaningful to hear from someone that you're not a hideous gargoyle creature. If this isn't allowed then I'll take this post down right away :)

[Hauls] after crying for two months over my old alcohol-free BHA going out of production (and living in a country with shit alternatives) I went a little overboard when ordering a new one. These babies just arrived today!

http://i.imgur.com/hqU71DR.jpgI am so excited! I even went to the post office before they had my package (whoops). Introducing them one by one is hell though. :(I also have to find a way to try out the free testers. Any recommendations? I was thinking that after 1 week of introduction of the first product I could try one tester?

[Acne] Top right of my forehead starting to get very "bumpy". Little red dots popping up, they aren't pus-filled. Help getting rid of them?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Any idea as to what these are? I've looked online and people are saying to use 132493 different things. I don't have time/money to try them all so can someone recommend me preferably one or two products that should work?I'm tempted to go to the dermatologist but it's gonna cost me $80 just to have him look at me so idk if it's worth it if you guys can help me out.EDIT: http://imgur.com/a/eRaNsThat's the pic taken a few mins ago. My GF was playing with my hair and rubbed her hand across my forehead and said it felt bumpy (it feels way more bumpy than it looks, I think some of the spots can only be seen in certain lighting right now) It might not look like much but just two days ago there was nothing there and I really don't want this to get worse. My back is already completely ruined from not treating my acne as a kid with lots of scarring/PIH (or whatever it's called). I really don't want the same to happen to my face.
