[Review] Holy crap, spearmint tea...
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I don't know if "review" even applies here since this is not a beauty product but... I can't believe I'm saying this. I have become a full believer in spearmint tea for hormonal acne! I'm generally the type to be extremely science based when it comes to skincare, and am suspicious of herbal remedies in general, so this is something I never, ever thought would work. I only tried it after reading that it's affects are similar to using Spiro (something I haven't tried due to lack of healthcare).I have been broken out in cysts, pustules, and white heads all along my entire jawline for about... coming up on five years now? Yeah, I know ridiculous. It would always get way worse around my period but even when it was in remission, it never truly went away - all that changed was the severity of the breakout, not the existence of a breakout.I started trying everything recommended on here, essentially - Cetaphil and Cerave both made me worse, the latter of which actually gave me some horrible scarring on my cheeks. I used a sulfur ointment and it helped a tiny bit but not enough to justify how drying it was. About a year ago I pretty much just resigned myself to the fact that I would have gnarly, painful zits along my jawline forever.Well, awhile back I saw someone mention in passing that spearmint helped them. I kind of rolled my eyes thinking "placebo effect" (because I'm an asshole) but I picked up a box as a last ditch "haha, this won't ever work" effort. Cheaper than skincare products and less scary than putting something on my face, so why not?I don't have before and afters for you guys because well, the shame about my skin has made me avoid cameras for quite some time... but what I can tell you is that after 1.5 weeks of drinking this stuff, my jaw has almost cleared up for the first time in YEARS! I still have a few scant baby zits (three!!!) but no longer is my entire jawline coated in a smorgasbord of deep, throbbing cysts and white heads. I can actually lay my head down at night without it hurting. It's amazing to think I lived that way for so long, having never heard about spearmint as an option. This has genuinely changed my life - my skin is still not perfect (currently got some uglies on my cheekbones that I think are from my shampoo, unfortunately) but at least I'm not in pain anymore! I literally can not remember the last time my jawline was this clear, it must've been around 2013.

[psa] [meta] are we being scammed by another fake expert RE: [Meta] Announcing monthly Q&A with cosmetic chemist
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Remember when that other chemist came on and it turned out to be fake?/u/Berdlawwith all due respect I'm disturbed that someone that stated as fact multiple incorrect things is being advertised by the mods lending legitimacy to them in the eyes of people that are looking to learn here and the first post on the same subject he most clearly did not understand no less. Not that I would expect anyone to be perfect but stating things as fact that are not true from the position of expert and advertised by the mods goes beyond that./u/BerdLawright at the top they say vitamin c is best at a ph of 4-5 which is not true. Then said cosmetic regulations don't allow a product at a ph below 3.5 which is not true. Then they referenced a regulation about the ph of glycolic and lactic acid in leave on products which has nothing to do with ascorbic acid. All of that was only clarified because I questioned it, it was stated as fact. Later they referenced actives that can shrink pores and when questioned because that is commonly shot down as a myth only mentioned alcohol being used by celebs? The comments about SPF 30 being a different measurement based on what country it was made in are very confusing as well.To me it seems that this person is just searching for as they goI think you're more correct. Technically AA is most stable at very low pH (~1) and quickly begins degrading with 24 hours at pH 3 Source. But cosmetic regulations don't allow products to be below a pH of 3.5. So most formulas will actually not let it get that low and allow a range of about 1 pH. So for example, when we manufacture an exfoliator for a customer we may allow a pH range of 3.5-4.5 in terms of acceptability.https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/81sdqa/misc_rd_cosmetic_chemist_reporting_for_duty_here/

[Personal] Attempted to pop a huge pimple, thought I gave myself MRSA, nurse asked me if a I suffer acne and if I've tried "washing my face"...
Beauty Tips For Body Care
This is a rant and cautionary tale to not pop pimples. Especially the kind that are not ready to be popped. The things I did in this story are what not to do with your skin. You may cringe and become angry. Read at your own risk.I got an underground pimple (which I now know is a cyst) on my cheek. It felt sore, looked unsightly, and I wanted it out of my life. So much so, I was willing to basically cut it out.As an avid pimple popper watcher, I basically know what I'm doing (I don't) and I was ready for some pimple popping action.Phase one: The skin prep. I did a mud mask, warm compression on the zit for five minutes, and I exfoliated the area. The process took a good 30 minutes.Phase two: The big pop. I decided to use my professional training (from Youtube videos) and to bust out my fancy tools. I got everything sanitized and ready to go (comedone extractor and needle). I used the needle and poked the center of my giant cheek monster zit and nothing happened. Confused, but I decided that it needed more, the comedone extractor. I used the tool and pushed down (which ouch btw) and the only thing that came out a little bit of liquid and blood. No pus or white stuff :/ I decided to retreat because the area was swelling up. I thought fuck it and decided to go the old fashion way. I took two tissues and wrapped them around each finger and pressed down on the volcano monster. Nothing came out except tears and cuss words. I dabbed some rubbing alcohol to disinfect the area because I did just jab a needle into my face. (I know rubbing alcohol on the face is a no no...I'm bad). Then I put some tea tree oil on the area and decided to leave it alone. The next morning, I woke up 30 minutes before my alarm clock (which never happens btw, I'm basically Sleeping Beauty without the beauty part) from the pain in my face. I was highly concerned because I never felt this pain before. Then I remembered that people have given themselves MRSA from popping their pimples. I then proceeded to Google MRSA pimple stories and look at pictures for the next 15 minutes. After diagnosing myself, I rushed to my phone to make an appointment. I was asked if I wanted to speak with an advice nurse first and I thought sure why not. I was transferred to a nurse and wow. This guy....should never give any advice about acne. I'm still disappointed as if this happened 5 minutes ago. (It happened yesterday). After breathless explaining that I popped my pimple, it's swollen badly, and hurts and that I might have MRSA, he asked,"Do you suffer from acne?"I replied "Yes, occasionally". That's why I'm calling... about the MRSA monster zit...I shit you not, he said "Have you tried washing your face?"Silence....Mother Fcker! I have an arsenal of skincare products that will last a fcking lifetime. Don't even get me started on how samples I have. Or how I have a shipment from amazon and ulta every month. How I also go to drugstores and Target to find hidden gems at low prices. I can bury you in face wash alone. BURY YOU!I replied meekly, "Yes, twice a day."He replied "Do you have a fever."I didn't.He said to ice the area, wash my face, and to apply benzoyl peroxide (ew irritates my skin, no thanks, boy bye).He said to call back if my symptoms get worse.I realize I may have been dramatic thinking I have MRSA, but I was still offended that he asked if I wash my face.I used a medicated pimple patch sticker and my monster zit has come down significantly. I'm going to be okay. I don't have MRSA.I knew my fellow acne sufferers here at SCA would understand my plight of such a ghastly question.*TL/DR: I popped my own pimple, was a drama queen and thought I gave myself MRSA, called nurse, he asked if I wash my face, duh, don't have MRSA, pimple healing, i'm doing better. *

[Personal] Saved up to go see a dermatologist, and she couldn't have cared less
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I recently lost my insurance, but have been struggling with acne and eczema, so I saved up some money to see a dermatologist. I went into my appointment armed with questions, concerns, and a list of things I've tried that haven't worked - and I was SO optimistic that a dermatologist would be able to address my concerns.Maybe my expectations were too high, but this whole appointment was disappointing and frustrating.I spent 40 minutes in the waiting room - and less than 10 minutes actually talking to the derm. She asked me what I was using for my acne, I told her I was using glycolic acid every other night and salicylic acid every night, and all she said was "Stop using them both, you need a retinoid." She asked maybe a total of two questions, took one glance at my skin, wrote me a prescription, and sent me on my way.(I took a look at the prescription she wrote me, googled it, and realized - it's Differin.)I stopped her as she was walking out of the exam room and asked her about alternatives to using hydrocortisone on my eczema flare ups because I was trying to not be dependent on them, and she said, "Dependent? You've probably been using hydrocortisone for what? A week? You'll be fine." To which I replied, "Until last month I was using it twice a day every day, but thanks." She was very clearly just trying to get me to leave and was so dismissive in the process.TL;DR - I'm just really disappointed I saved my money for a such an underwhelming dermatologist appointment.

[misc] thanks to you guys my skin is the best it’s ever been!!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
For the first time in my life, I’m getting compliments on my skin — feels unreal ðŸ˜I have no pictures of what my skin looked previously, but basically throughout my whole life I’ve had acne — little tiny bumps, blackheads, hyperpigmentation, the occasional cyst, etc. It wasn’t super horrific, but it was debilitating enough to my self confidence that I would try to hide my face and hide myself. I remember my acne being so bad in my freshman year of college that I hid myself from my friends and refused to come out of my dorm for about 3 months.Just last year, I had someone in the skincare section of a Nordstrom’s offer me an unsolicited “skin touch up,” citing that I needed it. (Rude af)So I guess I’m still in disbelief that people actually think I have good skin now!!! I have been getting complimented weekly and my god... it feels so good. Granted, I do wear foundation and everything, but my skin without makeup is pretty good too! And honestly, even when I wore foundation before my skin still looked like shit lol. Here’s some pics of what my skin looks like, with and without makeup: https://m.imgur.com/a/2Wt0SHere’s what I think helped the most: - Sleeping well, eating well, drinking water, exercising. I try to sleep 6hrs/night at the very least and eat healthy about 80-90% of the time; I exercise 4-6x a week (weightlifting) with cardio 1-3x a week. I drink anywhere from 32-96oz of water a day, though usually around 64oz is where i get :) - AHAs/BHAs!!! They are a godsend. I use Cosrx and have recently been using GoW mandelic acid, which is seriously amazing. I learned about these thru SCA!!! Thank you guys so much. - Supplements: I take fish oil, magnesium, vitamin D, l-theanine, and evening primrose. I think evening primrose really helps with my skin - Using quality makeup: I don’t know why, but if I use cheaper makeup, it always breaks me out. I try to buy makeup that is more high quality (expensive lmao) and it seems to be doing way better for my skin.My daily routine: AM: wash water with face, FAB moisturizer (the one in the tub) and missha sunscreen PM: heimish all clean balm, cerave foaming cleanser, FAB moisturizer with squalane/rosehip/grapeseed/red raspberry seed oils mixed inAbout 1-2x a week I do a MUAC peel (25% mandelic acid or 40% lactic), and a mask (either one of the origins masks or a homemade mask of oatmeal/honey/fullers clay/etc) and I will sometimes use the Estée Lauder night repair serum.Lmk if you guys have any more suggestions on how to improve my skin even more, or if you have any questions about my routine!♥️

[Review] Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone! I'm a long time lurker and a first time poster. This is 100% my opinion. I just feel so passionately I had to share. Also, x posted to r/muacjdiscussionSo, when this first came out it was crazy hyped up. We all know this. I'm not the kind of person to buy into hype. Example, I don't own ABH MR or Soft Clam* Even the promise of a face that smelled of Jolly Ranchers and a glowing review from a specific Beauty Guru- whose spiritual Halo seems to have slipped a little recently-didn't convince me to buy it. I had other AHA products. What was so special about one that smelled like candy? (Although, don't get me wrong. I'm a sucker for a gimmick.)And then a couple weeks ago, I don't know, something flipped and I had to have this product. Had to! I reached out on this Subreddit to get some advice and it took all of one person saying they loved it, to talk me into it. I promptly ran to the nearest Sephulta, divested my self of damn near fifty bucks, and returned home with my pristinely packaged Millenial Pink goop. I tore open the packaging-how cute is that tiny little spoon?- and inhaled.Holy freaking mother of pearl. Seriously, the scent is not exaggerated. Its like smothering your skin in the chicest blend of watermelon candy and a really good, powdery soap. To the point that I hope Glow Recipes next product is this scent in eau de parfum form! That's to say nothing of the results. My skin is notoriously temperamental. One day cluttered with clogged pores and breakouts. The next, red and raw and burning. Does anyone remember when it was cool to lick the wrapper of a stick of Red Hot gum, stick it to your forehead, and then tear it off? No? Just me? Well, imagine a localized chemical burn. My skin feels like that if I even look at the wrong product. Temperamental bish. But, I digress.I swear it's only been like, 14 days since I bought the Watermelon Glow mask. And in that time, my little clogs have started to clear out. Not out as in purging. Like, I felt a great disturbance in my face, as if millions of bacteria suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. That kind of cleared out. The best part, no dryness. Granted I am very generous with my moisture application. But for real. This is some next level voodoo magic. If you can spare the cash I would recommend the heck out of it!TLDR; Yeah. I didn't expect to get so long winded. Basically, Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask is an incredible product. I think most skin types could benefit from it.

[Personal] The best gift ever!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Today I woke up on my 30th birthday with clear skin. Middle school through high school through college into my professional career, I struggled with acne and PIH. I never looked at it as something that I could get rid of completely, but more something I could learn to manage and live with. It killed my self confidence, affected my social life, even became an obstacle in my professional life. It was never easy for me to really be myself or express my opinion professionally because I thought all anyone could see when they looked at me was my acne. But this sub, honestly you folks truly changed my life for the better. I've been a long time lurker, and dabbled with certain products here and there, but around new years I decided enough was enough, and that this birthday I wanted to give myself a gift that I've wanted my whole life, but was never able to achieve... clear skin. So I buckled down, did my research, spent hours (like seriously you can really get lost in there, in a good way of course) in the sidebar, and now, with a bit of my own commitment, a bit of trial & error, and a TON of motivation from you all on this sub, I woke up on my 30th birthday with better skin then I've ever had in my 20s, probably in my whole life.So thank you, ScA for the best gift I've ever received. You all are the best. Hugs all around. Now I'm off to do what any self respecting ScA member would do first thing on their birthday...my morning routine! (No excuses!)

[Acne] One month into my new skin care regimen and most of my acne scars have faded. I'm really excited. I hope my new regimen does not lose its effects. It's really difficult to find the right products for our skin.

[Skin Concerns] Crying + 0.05% Retin-A
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’m going through an emotional time in my life right now and find myself crying most days of the week. Three nights a week I use 0.05% Retin-A. The trouble is that I tend to cry at night. My tears naturally get everywhere. I’m curious to know how this affects how the Retin-A works.

[Product Question] Skinnies — a promising new type of sunscreen?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I recently came across a brand called Skinnies, who are selling sunscreen products with a formula I've never seen before — without water! (OK, I'm aware of powdered sunscreen, but this is a bit different). Instead of water, they're using something called 'organogel' — a gel which forms a thin layer on skin to hold the UV filters in place, preventing migration. Because there's no water, they say you only need to use 1/5 the amount you'd normally use to get the same protection. They also claim it dries super fast, goes on clear, and isn't white or greasy. Sounds pretty good to me!Here's their site: https://skinnies.co.nzThey have a few products, but the one that interests me the most is the Skinnies SPF 50 Conquer (PA++++) — as it has the highest protection rating, highest performance (for sports/exercise), and is 4 hours water resistant. It also has the most interesting ingredient list. Here's the UV filters in this product:Octocrylene (chemical, stable, UVB & UVA2 protection)Zinc Oxide (physical, stable, UVB, UVA1, & UVA2 protection)Tinosorb S / Bemotrizinol (chemical, stable, UVB, UVA1, & UVA2 protection)Uvinul A Plus (chemical, stable, UVA2 & free radical protection)Additionally, the formula contains Vitamin E and Manuka Oil, which have antioxidant properties. They have an SPF30 product too with some different UV filters, and a couple of tinted versions. All the ingredients used are highly rated by Paula's Choice and EWG, independently tested by Eurofins, and suitable for sensitive skin.Their products are developed in NZ but it looks like they ship pretty much anywhere in the world, and have local sites for the US, UK, and Switzerland (the US one isn't currently open for business yet but will be in June — they have an Indiegogo page set up to fundraise: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/get-skinnies-on-get-out-there-new)NZ site: https://skinnies.co.nzUS site: https://gotskinnies.comFAQs: https://skinnies.co.nz/frequently-asked-questionsI am based in NZ, but have no affiliation whatsoever to this brand — I haven't even tried them yet (but plan to soon!)Has anyone else heard of them or used any of their products? I'd be keen to see what people think. To me they sound great, I hate goopy white formulas and have struggled to find sunscreen products that I like, with great ingredients and UV filters. Is there a catch? I don't want to believe I've found the holy grail just yet, but they certainly do look promising...

[misc] [NSFW] What is the weirdest/funniest skincare related story you have?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’m procrastinating and want some fun stories. My weirdest one is a little NSFW. When I was a little kid I had special lotion for a skin condition I had that would burn on normal skin. Cut to my uncle (who was like 16 at the time) coming to spend the summer with my parents and us hearing him scream and run to the shower. My mother went in the room and found my lotion next to the bed and a pile of crusty towels underneath it. Let’s just say, he learned not to steal my lotion anymore. He’s only 10 years older than me so I like to give him shit still about it. I give him lotion almost every year for Christmas.Edit: spelling

[Acne] On Sides of Mouth
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi ScA,I'm posting on behalf of my gf, who is still new to Reddit. Before we met, she had clear skin until she took birth control. The pills gave her insane stroke-esque aura migraines, and when she stopped taking them her skin "went crazy".For years, she tried "everything" and when we met she was on accutane. This gave her clear skin for a while. As a preventative, we entirely reinvented our diet. For the last 5 years, we've eaten insanely well. No dairy, no gluten, no soy, lots of veggies. She also takes probiotics. I can't speak the details her routine, but most recently she had been using tea tree oil and (until recently) was having success. We work in Asia at a school, and we get sick occasionally. She took a few rounds of antibiotics over the to clear up some serious illness, and her skin hasn't recovered. Her acne emerges at the sides of her mouth. She suspects she might have a hormonal imbalance, potentially causing these specific breakouts. As a disclaimer, I love her more than anything, and I am not bothered at all by her skin. She is beautiful and I don't notice. However, she is frustrated by her skin and her journey, and I'm just trying to help in my own idiot-boyfriend way.Any help or thoughts, links or guidance is appreciated.

[REVIEW] - French pharmacy for sensitive skin - Avene
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Avene - The story begins with the Marquis of Rocozels, a nobleman who lived close to the spring in the mid-1700s. One of his horses had a skin disease and, fearing it would infect his other animals, the Marquis turned the horse loose. After some time the wild horse returned, completely healed of its complaint. That’s right, you’ve guessed it – it had been rolling in and drinking the water of the spring. And so the healing properties of eau thermale Avene were uncovered.Once word got out and demand grew, a thermal spa was built in 1743 to treat people with dermatosis and skin complaints. By 1871 the fervour surrounding water’s benefits had travelled around the world, leading to it being exported by the bottle load to America to help treat the victims of the Great Chicago Fire. The biological signature of the Avene thermal water is truly unique. Its low mineral content (a 2:1 ratio of magnesium to calcium) is ideal for sensitive skin, and the high level of silicates ensure an exceptionally soft texture. Avene spring water is made up of rain water sourced from both the Mediterranean and the Atlantic oceans, which is filtered through a mountainous area covered with vegetation. The rocks at Avene are dolomite: meaning they are porous, calcareous and rich in magnesium, providing the perfect home for special microflora known as ‘Aquaphilus Dolomiae’. You’ll find that Avene products tend to favor mineral oil, glycerin, and Shea butter. I’m going to state this up front Avene mainline products are for dry, dehydrated and sensitive skin. If you have combination or oily skin you should check out their Cleanance line which does not contain mineral oil.Word on Mineral Oil - I keep seeing responses that mineral oil ‘clogs the pores’. Mineral oil can’t clog pores as it cannot penetrate skin—its molecular size is simply too big to get into the pore lining where clogs happen. Instead—and this is good news—mineral oil remains on the surface of skin, where it does the most good—although those with oily skin may not like how products with a high amount of mineral oil feels or looks on their skin. The claims that mineral oil is unsafe to use are unfounded and are perpetuated by cosmetics companies and people who use information about non-purified, industrial-grade mineral oil (which isn’t used in skin care) as a scare tactic. The truth is that the mineral oil you find in skincare products is perfectly safe, and even better – very good for your skin, especially if it’s dry or sensitive. Source and Source and Source. Also, Mineral oil reduces TEWL (transepidermal water loss) by 40%, is equally as occlusive as coconut oil and more occlusive than linoleic acid, yet it does not induce acne. Mineral oil and petrolatum provide inhibition of excessive inflammatory activity superior to 1% hydrocortisone is treating soap induced contact irritant dermatitis conducted by this author. It has also been documented these ingredients have anticarcinogenic and mild antibacterial effects. Source. You’ll find many anti-mineral oil ‘facts’ are just scare tactics by ‘holistic’ websites trying to sell their own products and push their practices (coconut oil is practically holy!). Usually these same website push using baking soda and lemon juice straight for ‘skincare’. I used to be a part of this way of thinking years ago when it was fringe rather than mainstream quackery.Long story short - if you have dry, dehydrated, and sensitive skin, Avene is a great product for you to try out. If you have oily skin or combination skin…I’d try their Clenance line or another French pharmacy brand instead.Cost - If you are the in UK and Europe, Avene is quite affordable and considered a pharmacy or ‘drugstore’ brand. In America the cost is higher and might be considered ‘mid-range’ or typical department store prices, hence why Americans tend to really stock up and hoard French pharmacy like Avene when they travel - it’s way cheaper.Onward to the reviews:Avene Hydrance Optimale Light - My first Avene product. I picked this up due to a ‘recommended French pharmacy skincare’ article. This is a light hydrating moisturiser for dehydrated sensitive skin that is normal to combination. I use this mainly during the summer and warmer months.Avene Hydrance Rich Hydrating Cream - The richer sibling to the Light. I prefer to use this one at night, but also great for the daytime. Perfect For dry to very dry dehydrated sensitive skin. I would not recommend this for oily skin.Avene Hydrance Optimale UV Rich - Same product as above but with SPF 20.Avene Gentle Milk Cleanser - I hated this at first because I used it wrong. I’ll admit it. This you apply to dry skin and either wipe off or use toner on a cotton pad to take off. In other words, use as you would a cold cream. This is surprisingly a really good makeup remover cleanser but I still needed a micellar water to remove mascara. This is meant for extremely sensitive skin but can be used by those with dry and normal skin as well.Avene Gentle Toning Lotion - Great for those with rosacea. Doesn’t dry the skin but also doesn’t leave any residue on it. I personally prefer Bioderma’s Sensible or Hydrabio toner over Avene’s, but it helps my husband’s rosacea.Avene Antirougeurs Jour Redness-Relief Moisturising Protecting Cream SPF20 - This cream works well for those who have acne rosacea. I’ve used it on my ruddy cheeks and nose area and it didn’t do anything for me, but as hubby as acne rosacea it’s really helped it keep the inflammation down.Avene Hydrance Intense Serum - I’m gonna be honest and didn’t find anything special about this serum. I usually like my serum’s to contain maybe some niacinamide or licorice root or something I’m not getting in my hydration lotions and moisturizers. This one does give dry and dehydrated skin a lot of ‘slip’ and a smoother feeling.Avene Soothing Eye Contour Cream - the cheapest eye cream I have in my eye cream arsenal. It doesn’t do anything for wrinkles but if your eye area is sensitive to the touch or dry and irritated after removing eye makeup, this eye cream really soothes the area and the Dextran sulfate in the eye cream also acts by relieving hypersensitive eyelids and eye area.Avene Soothing Moisture Mask - If you were to buy just one Avene product, I would recommend the Mask. Incidentally they also make an ‘extreme’ mask and an ‘anti-redness’ mask which I haven’t tried yet. Tolerance Extreme can be used by all skin types, Soothing Moisture by sensitive dehydrated skin and Antirougeurs calm for rosacea skin. I used the Soothing Moisture Mask this evening in fact and I’m always surprised how much is really absorbed by the skin and how little I have to tissue off after the 15-20 min is up. I could actually apply foundation (or primer and foundation) after tissuing off the excess and it leaves my skin feeling soft and satiny.Avène Gentle Exfoliating Gel - no plastic micro-beads in this one! This gel contains biodegradable jojoba wax beads for gentle mechanical exfoliation. You can apply this on dry skin or on wet. Personally I prefer to apply to dry skin, massage in, rinse off. Very gentle on the skin.Avene Thermal Water Spray - I know your thinking ‘why the hell would I want a water spray for?’ This spray is so incredibly handy in skincare kit. You’ll find a lot of Avene products state to spray this lightly on the skin after using (i.e. the Mask). This is how I use it. I spray this on my beauty blender lightly before tapping it on my skin to smooth out foundation. Spray my eyeshadow brushes lightly before swiping them across the eyeshadows to get a sheer, wet look on my eyes. Whenever I want to go foundation-free I tap on some powder, which usually starts to look a bit cakey, and give a really light spray with this which give a satin look to my skin. On hot days my kids love to get a fine mist spray of this on their necks, head, and face. Do you really need a fancy Thermal water spray? No, but the fine mist does come in handy when doing my makeup.Final Thoughts - I haven’t tried all the Avene products as my focus is dry, dehydrated and some redness in my skin. I really like that Avene has a nice line for those with rosacea (the Antirougeurs line up). Their products for oily skin aren’t that extensive, but the main focus of their products are for skin like mine. I really like Avene’s price point, simple, yet effective ingredients, and they also have moisturizers with SPF and also carry a selection of very high SPF mineral fluid. Avene also offers body care for psoriasis-prone skin (Akerat Body Care Cream), itchy and eczema skin (Xeracalm), acne (TriAcnéal), and a small targeted selection for ‘mature’ skin that targets wrinkles that is also retinol-free (Physiolift). It’s ingredients are simple and really no-frills. Your not going to find a bunch of essential oils or plant extracts in multitudes as Avene strives to be as allergen and irritant free as much as possible.Have you tried Avene? I’d love to hear from those who have tried the other products/line up.

[Personal] I woke up with 3 pimples and I am SO HAPPY!!!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I moved to a new city last spring and in July my previously-oily-acne-prone skin started to get excessively dry. By August I had started breaking out in weird patchy eczema like allergies on my face (not sure why, I have blood tests and patch tests coming up). For the previous 6 years of my life I'd had oily acne prone skin and had done everything in my power to clear it up.It wasn't until October when my face was flaking off that I realized my moisture barrier was completely destroyed. Using Cetaphil, a Clarisonic every day, and different actives, masks, treatments, you name it I used it, was good for my oily skin. Now? Not good. I cried all the time, I wished I had my old skin back, not this thin sallow mess that was scratchy and peeling off.So I stripped my routine down to SLS-free cleanser/spf/night cream and worked up from there. All my daily products are now hydrators or oils. It took me months until my skin started to plump up, my dark circles went away, and my skin started feeling fresh.Today I woke up and I have THREE WHOLE pimples on my face. I think it might be because of monthly female hormone changes BUT my skin was so parched for so long it couldn't even produce a pimple! In a few weeks if all continues to go well I'll be adding Nip + Fab Fix Pads as well as a clay mask as needed, rarely, to combat any pimples or dullness. All I can say: appreciate what you have. All I used to want was dry skin. I thought they had it so much better until I realized it's just as much work. Acne used to break my heart and make me feel hideous. Now I'm thankful for these spots - I will no longer complain about my skin, regardless. It's good skin and I'm grateful to have it.

[Misc] ELLE claims $1200 serum with gold and pearls is "worth it" and "heavily rooted in science research" - discussion on science as selling angle and acceptable price point
Beauty Tips For Body Care
First time poster, long timer lurker, yadda yadda. I came across the following article on new La Prairie Platinum Rare Cellular Night Elixir aka a night serum: ELLE articleI started out doubting yet slightly interested. The first chapters discuss howAll of La Prairie's products are heavily rooted in science research. So, you’re really getting what you pay forSounds interesting, even if the price tag is super high... But what is this? The only ingredients mentioned are gold, pearls, caviar and platinum. I followed the link to La Prairie's own web page, and can't find ingredients there, either. I could however find the following excerpt on the science behind the product:SCIENCEPlatinum Rare Cellular Night Elixir is simply the most powerful rejuvenating potion to emerge from the La Prairie laboratories. It supports the four functions essential to the skin’s complete regeneration process, helping it to detoxify and be nourished, to breathe and boost its own immunity. For the first time ever, these four key functions are addressed in a single, extraordinary formula. Platinum Rare Cellular Night Elixir offers the highest concentration of La Prairie’s exclusive Cellular Complex, combined with the Advanced Platinum Complex, a unique blend of rare, active ingredients. So, my thoughts on this are the following. First, yay, looks like "science" is finally breaking through as a selling angle! The first things this article mentions are that very famous people used the product of this brand and that they are heavily rooted in science. As Internet and brands like Ordinary have made skincare science more accessible (both in terms of price and in terms of making average consumers more knowledgeable about skincare ingredients) it seems that many brands are starting to follow suit. They emphasise science, some announce percentage amounts of active ingredients, etc. A great change! However, my second point concerns the fact that this is, as I said, a selling angle. In this case the writer does discuss the claimed benefits of e.g., caviar, but doesn't compare them to ingredients actually known to improve skin and their efficacy in relation to them. Plus her claim that "Gold has been shown to brighten complexion over time." Where exactly...? She included a photo of herself to show the effects of the product on (her admittably amazing) skin, but doesn't show her "before" picture. The science doesn't seem very foolproof here. Finally, a third point to consider: even if this was a super product combining the effects of retinol, AHA, BHA, vitamin C, E, niacinamide, hyaluronic aciod, and ceramides all together, would you consider paying $1200 dollars for a skincare product? This sub tends to prefer cheaper products, which I think is great in terms of being more accessible to more people. Sometimes I love to pamper myself and splurge on skincare, though, and I dream of Drunk Elephant. However, $1200? That is... going a bit too far for me. I don't think there is a serum worth that much. At least not for me.

[Routine help] Peoples experiences using differin for extremely stubborn closed comedones (pictures included)
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have combination skin and my biggest problem is closed comedones. Most of my acne comes from my comedones becoming inflamed. From a distance, my skin doesn't look too bad, however up close I have loads of deep closed comedones, on my chin and cheeks. I have been using TO Glycolic acid 7% toner and TO retionol 2% for 3 months now and have seen progress in the overall texture of my skin, but my comedones will not budge. My question is shall i try differin, is it worth it if my skin is relatively ok bar the comedones, I am worried it will make my skin worse? What are your experiences using differin for comedones? I've included some pictures of what my skin currently looks like, thank you!!My current routine isAM: wash face with water and moisturise with SebaMed clear face gel PM: Avene milk clenser, TO Glycolic 7% or TO Retionol 2%, Clindamycin 1% Aqueous lotion, SebaMed gel + TO squalane oil.https://imgur.com/a/KKHgi https://imgur.com/a/C5FPu

[Sun Care] PSA - remember your vitamin D!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Back when I started following this sub, the first piece of advice that jumped out to me was to *always* wear sunscreen. I've been slathering sunscreen on since then, even during the winter up here in Canada (you can get a lot of exposure when bright sunshine reflects off snow!)Anyway, I also take 1000 IU of vitamin D (more specifically, D3 a.k.a cholecalciferol) daily. My pharmacist cousin told me that all Canadians should be taking a daily vitamin D supplement. She said it's really the only vitamin that we all need to take, since it is hard to get exclusively through diet.Given that we all are so good about putting on our sunscreen, I just thought that I would post a PSA about vitamin D. Especially for those of us in very northern or very southern locations, getting enough D3 in the winter is critical, doubly so for women already at risk of osteoporosis. Also, too little D3 seems to increase the risk of depression, which is already too easy to fall prey to when the days get short in the winter. In fact, I've been dealing with serious depression for the first time this winter, and it is the first year that I was really good about applying sunscreen. For me, this could definitely just be a correlation. But - it doesn't seem that there are downsides to taking a vitamin D supplement, so if it can keep depression and osteoporosis at bay, it seems worthwhile. If anyone has a good strategy for getting enough D3, please share! Or, if you have stories about D3 deficiencies related to sunscreen - please share!

[Skin Concerns] I've lost almost 60 pounds! Yay! Now, about those stretch marks/that sagging skin...
Beauty Tips For Body Care
As the title says, I've lost almost 60 pounds since May of 2017. I have about 45-50 more pounds to lose, and I'm trying to work on fixing the years of damage being overweight has done to my skin. I have stretch marks EVERYWHERE. I don't hate them, but they're not cute. The more weight I lose, the more it makes me feel as though I look like an accordion when I move my skin. Plus, I'm jiggly everywhere. I know exercise will help tighten things up, but is there more I can do?Any help, suggestions, etc from those who have lost bunches of weight? Or anyone with knowledge about stretch marks/saggy skin repair? Thanks!

[Review] - Deodorants (mostly organic, vegan, and European)
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Deodorant - we need it and what we put on our underarms is just as important as our face. As recently study on The effect of habitual and experimental antiperspirant and deodorant product use on the armpit microbiome concluded that regularly used antiperspirants (deodorants that contain aluminium products to reduce sweat) had fewer bacteria in their armpits. People who usually used them but stopped for a few days developed more bacteria. These are non-pathogenic bacteria that live on the skin and don’t cause disease. I’m not here to argue whether aluminium in your deodorant is truly good or bad (and the studies done can prove either point), I’m here to review some probably lesser known deodorants. My husband and I personally break out in an armpit rash with deodorants containing aluminium, but not every deodorant that contains aluminium will have this effect on me so I tend to try and use only aluminium-free the majority of the time unless the weather is hot or I’ll be in close proximity (and probably sweating) with people I care about such as a major meeting at work. I’m a huge fan of perfume as well, but Shalimar sprayed liberally should not take the place of something under your arms. I also do not react well to those ‘salt’ rocks or ‘pit rocks’, so none of those will be reviewed here.Weleda - Wild Rose, Citrus, Sage - was probably my first foray into the ‘natural’ deodorants. I preferred the scent of the Citrus and it was the longest lasting of the three. I found that I needed to carry this around with me and constantly reapply it throughout the day as it’s effectiveness lasted 3 hours tops. Just because something is ‘natural’ doesn’t make it better, but I liked the idea. The Wild Rose has a mix of perfumes/scents from extracts and synthetics making it the least likely of the three to cause a reaction. Sage contains Sage Leaf oil, Tea Tree oil and Coumarin - this deodorant should not be used by pregnant women due to the Sage Leaf Oil. Citrus is also safe for pregnant women as it mostly contains lemon oil and synthetics.EO Organic Deodorant Spray - This stuff is literally alcohol, water, essential oils. The alcohol is effective at killing the bacteria and therefore this brand worked better than Weleda, but I still needed to reapply during the day but not as often. The three scents are: Lavender, Vetiver, Tea Tree and Citrus. Citrus and Tea Tree are a no-no for pregnant women due to the Rosemary oil. My favorite of the bunch was the Vetiver because I’m a fan of the blend of lavender, grapefruit, geranium, cedar, bergamot, and vetiver. Between Weleda and EO, I recommend the EOBurt’s Bees Herbal Deodorant spray - my husband’s current favorite. Pretty much the same formula as EO: alcohol, water, essential oils. This one contains sage oil, lemon oil, and lavender oil. It’s a very ‘manly’ kind of herbal scent, but I’ve worn it before and it is quite effective. It is a more concentrate version then EO as it only really needs to be applied once or twice a day. Due to the sage oil, not safe for pregnant women.Everyman Jack Body Deodorant - aluminum free- This comes in Citrus, Mint, Eucalyptus, Sandalwood, and Cedarwood. Hubby uses Citrus for the time being but only grabs it if Burt’s Bees has run out. Even though these are advertised for men, I really enjoy these deodorants as well. With aloe, witch hazel, calendula, and alpine lichen as the main ingredients in these, it’s very gentle on your underarms and has a light scent. The lichen is the ‘natural’ ingredient to help control the odor.Biotherm - Deo Pure - Some of their range does contain aluminum, but the ‘natural’ one does not. The antiperspirant range made my underarm very itchy but the Natural one did not. This brand worked really well as an antiperspirant and there is a light or almost no scent. Biotherm is a European skincare company that boast ‘pure extract of thermal plankton…a type of microflora’ in all their products. Their labs and development are done in Monaco.Kiehl’s Superbly Efficient Anti-Perspirant and Deodorant - This was my favorite deodorant of my youth before aluminum salts broke me out. If you can tolerate aluminum in your deodorant I highly recommend the Kiehl’s one. I liked the cream texture and the application much better than a roll on or spray and felt I could control the product application. This one also really helped control the sweat for me in the summer.Sanoflore If you want organic, non-aluminum, French pharmacy deodorant, this is for you. I’m currently using the ‘Clouds of Freshness’ which has a wonderful herbal scent. This is not safe for pregnant women due to the Oregano and Rosemary Oils. Sanoflore has a line up of different deodorant scents, but I haven’t been able to get my hands on all of them.La Roche-Posay sensitive skin roll on deodorant - Aluminium salts-free, alcohol-free, colourant-free, paraben-free and worth it. If your looking for a deodorant that leaves your skin soft and has almost no scent (no essential oils) then I recommend this one. You might be questioning the claim of ‘alcohol-free’ when it contains Cetearyl Alcohol. Cetearyl Alcohol is is a white, waxy ingredient made from a mixture of fatty alcohols consisting predominantly of cetyl and stearyl alcohols which are found in plants, like Coconut and Palm oils. Originally discovered in 1817, this ingredient is used in cosmetics as a stabiliser to thicken an emulsion and keep it from separating. It also contains emollient properties which leave skin and hair soft and smooth. It’s not your liquid alcohol that dries the skin out, instead it leaves it smooth feeling.Final thoughts - I’ve tried a LOT of deodorants in my time from the drugstore variety (Dove, Nivea, Mitchum, and so forth) to the strangely crunchy-granola type (Lavanila, Salt of the Earth, Jason), and even some luxury or higher-end deodorants (did you know Clarins even has a deodorant). If I were to recommend one that is gentle, won’t cause irritation and might even keep some B.O. from developing, it would be the La Roche-Posay sensitive skin. Sanoflore would be my second if you can handle the essential oils. Everyman Jack can be used by both men and women. EO and Weleda are just fine if you live or work in a climate that you won’t be sweating in or have the ability to reapply often throughout the day. Neither EO or Weleda will stop the sweating, so you might want to invest in some underarm sweat pads/liners for your shirts (yes, they make those).I have on my list to try out Nuxe next (French pharmacy, aluminum-free) and Bioderma, but they are hard to get in my area. If you’ve tried them, let me know your thoughts!

[Personal] anyone else having a rough day because of someone’s comments about your skin?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’ve been dealing with the worst breakout of my life for a few weeks, and a coworker today told me she hadn’t noticed my skin being like this when I started at this job a few months ago and asked if I’ve been to the doctor about it.It’s really hurtful. I’m trying to keep perspective and stay positive, but it’s hard some days.

[Acne] Thank you, SCA, for making me wise to fungal acne.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've had problems with bacne for the past 15 years, even though I followed all the rules. I washed my back last, made sure I clipped my hair off of it, changed shirts every day, the whole shebang. And still a couple new pimples would pop up every other day - sometimes on my chest, too. I've spent the bulk of my life avoiding buying tops that would expose my back and avoiding swimming because I'd have to wear a bathing suit. but any fellow bacne sufferers already know how all that is, so I won't go on.a few weeks ago, in a last ditch effort, I searched "bacne" on this subreddit and learned about fungal acne, or pityrosporum folliculitis. I have some antifungal creams on hand (from dealing with -ahem- certain ailments below the belt) and figured I had nothing to lose, so I started applying it to my back every night. I haven't had a new pimple since, and two weeks later, I'm well on my way to an acne-free back.I can't believe it. I feel like a whole new world of clothing cuts and fulling enjoying the sunshine has been opened up to me. and it was such a simple solution.so, if you are also struggling with stubborn body acne that doesn't seem to respond to anything you do, any medicine you take, or any topical treatments or cleansers you can find, I highly recommend grabbing an OTC antifungal and giving that a shot. it could be what you've needed all along. and just a note for everyone else, the search bar for this subreddit is a gold mine, so use it!thanks again!

[Acne] Butt acne (buttne) cured
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I wanted to post this, in case one day somebody and searching for this and it helps them. There’s a much younger version of me somewhere out there, and this will help save you from a lifetime of uncomfortable experiences.I’ve tried just about everything. From skin care routine‘s. All the oils. All the chemicals. All the abrasives. Most of the exfoliants. But I finally found the answer. For me…I’ve battled with this for a lifetime. Ever since I was 15-ish to today. Let’s just say I’m in my 30s. And it’s still super embarrassing. Go to the gym, and you look for reasons to cover your body with a towel. Never get a massage, because the top of your rear may be covered in Acne. New sexual partners, embarrassing and gross. And through all that time, now I finally figured out that I just had to stop wearing cotton underwear. I go with a synthetic breathable underwear, and my buttne goes away. I think the cotton retained too much moisture, and combined with my sweat began to irritate my skin. Victory!!!I still have to be diligent about taking a shower as soon as I can when I sweat. Also using an abrasive cloth, to exfoliate as much as possible. It’s minor though, since the acne is cleared up. And most of the scars are starting to disappear. So younger version of me, get your parents to invest in a bunch of water wicking underwear, and enjoy life the way it was supposed to be.

[Acne] If I pop them they clear up and don't scar, if I leave them...
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Keep getting told not to do any extractions.But...If I pop the whiteheads or blackheads on my face, maybe they bleed a little, but they clear up and don't scar, never a big problem. If I leave them... They usually burrow deeper and turn into this huge painful cyst under the skin, and sometimes spread into several new spots near by.Does anyone else get this?

[REVIEW] La Mer Skincare Products
Beauty Tips For Body Care
How did I come to sample La Mer? In March of 2017 Glossybox UK released a special edition La Mer box which contained the following items: The Intensive Revitalizing Mask, Creme de la Mer Moisturizing Creme, Treatment Lotion, Eye Concentrate, Revitalizing Hydrating Serum, and Micellar Water. Yes, the samples were tiny and surprisingly lasted a lot longer than I expected. I was impressed, honestly impressed with it. I also happened to be browsing Nordstroms and noticed they had an La Mer Introductory Collection which contained: The Treatment Lotion, Eye Concentrate, the Regenerating Serum, and another jar of the Creme de la Mer Creme.Crème de la Mer Moisturizing Cream. I originally hated this cream and wondered what all the fuss was about. I’d read online that Nivea and this cream were practically identical in terms of the main ingredients. I’m staring at my huge blue tin of Nivea cream and I can guarantee the first few ingredients of Nivea are: Water, Liquid Paraffin (aka Mineral Oil), Cera Microcrystallina, Glycerin, Lanolin Alcohol and more Paraffin. Compare that to Creme de la Mer: Algae (Seaweed) Extract, Mineral Oil, Petrolatum, Glycerin, Isohexadecane and so forth. Ingredients are listed in order of their concentrations The first five ingredients or so are typically the bulk of the formula and usually include glycerin (an excellent moisturizer). But that doesn’t mean an ingredient has to be up top to change your skin. So, with CdlM, the top ingredient is their specialized Algae where as Nivea has water. I have zero issues with Mineral Oil and I also find most people will apply Nivea all over their bodies (and faces) as a great and cheap heavy emollient moisturizer, but will balk at La Mer’s use of this. We can debate this another day.As for performance - I found out the reason I hated this so much was because I was not using it correctly. I ended up putting more on my face than needed and rubbed it in….getting frustrated in the process. Putting too much product on your skin no matter what it is - serums, moisturizers, eye cream, can have negative effects. I found the best short version on how to apply is here: 3 step application. I was applying too much and not letting the creme turn transparent in my hand/fingers was the first giant mistake. Once I ‘mastered’ this technique, Creme de la Mer because a game changer for my skin during the winter. I found for me, it was best to use this a night as my last step, or during the really cold, windy, and dry months as more of a protectant for my skin during the day.Would I buy again? Absolutely. The best part is even if you buy the littlest jar it will last you quite a while. The Moisturizing Soft Cream Don’t want to get fussy with the original CdlM with warming it up in your hands and having to pat/press it into your skin? Then the Soft Cream is for you. The sample jar I got from the sales associate lasted me about 2 weeks. As with the original, a little bit goes a LONG way and there is also a tendency to apply too much of this thinking you need more than you do. Don’t want that mineral oil in your face cream…Soft Cream does not have it, so another bonus for this variant. Do I recommend the Soft Cream? Yes - if you want to avoid the Mineral Oil and don’t want to fuss with 3-step application routine. The Moisturizing Soft Lotion As the name implies, this is a lotion rather than a cream. I had tried the Soft Cream first and thought it was the bees knees and had little faith in the Soft Lotion. As with this line it’s easy to apply TOO much, which makes it feel awful on the face and may be the reason one doesn’t like the product. I did this with the lotion. Once I took a step back and applied less the heavens opened up and shined a light on my face. This lotion dries/settles into an almost satiny feel. Out of the three, the lotion has been my favorite (and I have really dry and dehydrated skin). The Eye Concentrate I was lucky to get two generous sized samples and can speak miracles to this product. I’m in my 40’s and this de-puffed under my eyes like nothing else and softened the fine lines (crows feet). It also turned the crepe like skin on my lids around as well. Apparently it used to contain retinol but after speaking to La Mer via email, they have removed the retinol. Are there other eye creams that perform just as well as the La Mer Eye Concentrate? Yes….but it will only work with one target area and not all target areas for me like this one does.Regenerating and Hydrating Serums If I could - I would buy both and use both daily. If you don’t have dry or dehydrated skin, I would recommend the Regenerating serum. I actually passed part of my sample to another friend to try and she told me she bought the Regenerating Serum that week…and 6 months later and she is still using it and swearing by it. Regenerating Serum is more for the 40 year old plus crowd (I fall into this category) and the Hydrating can be used by any age.Intensive Revitalizing Mask I use Sisley Face Masks and I would compare this one to Sisley’s Black Rose Face Mask. I loved the smell of this, how little of the product I needed to use to gain maximum benefits. Is this necessary to have and use? No, but it is a luxurious mask that brightens my mood and spirits.Cleansing Micellar Water Signature La Mer scent, did a really fabulous job of taking off makeup. Skin felt great afterwards. Cannot justify $90 on micellar water though.Cleansing Foam I may not have been able to open my wallet for $90 micellar water, but I sure can for the Cleansing Foam. The sales associate told me I needed just the tiniest bit to build a super rich later with a smidgen of water and she was right. I can’t even explain how wonderful my face feels after using this. It is worth every penny. The Treatment Lotion This is La Mer’s version of an ‘essence’. I can’t explain how it work, but it makes a serious difference in how my serums and moisturizers sink in and perform. Night and day difference in the performance of the products I use after this. You don’t need much of the lotion at all, it’s a bit thicker and you apply with your fingers/palm of hands and even the sample bottle lasted me a month! If you had to buy just one product - The Treatment Lotion, you can use just this after cleansing and you’ll see a difference in how your products perform. If you could buy just two products - The Treatment Lotion and one of the moisturizing creams. If you aren’t sure between the original and the Soft Cream, go with the Soft Cream. If you’re not sure between the Soft Cream and the Soft Lotion…I would go with the Soft Lotion if the weather is hot and humid where you live.If you could buy just three products - The Treatment Lotion, moisturizing cream of your choice and Eye Cream (if you have fine lines and more ‘mature’ age like me) or the Cleansing Foam for everyone.Final note/thoughts on La Mer When I was in my 20’s and 30’s I used to make fun of people who bought and purchase La Mer. I considered it such a waste of money. I’m not even sure why it bothered me so much what people spent their money on - you want to spend $250 on a face cream and your budget allow - go ahead and do it…why should my opinion (or someone else’s opinion) of what you do with your own cash influence if you buy it or not. That’s like you wanting to buy an Audi A8, but all your friends call it a ‘waste of money’ and tell you to buy a Honda Civic, which is a fabulous car, don’t get me wrong, but the Audi has more of what you want - the extras, the ride, the road performance, the bells and whistles. You don’t NEED a 3,000 sq ft house with an acre of land for a family of four when a townhouse of 1,680 sq ft is plenty. Do I need La Mer? No. I don’t need the fancy car or the mini mansion house either, but they are nice to have and own.I also wanted to state that I found La Mer to be more geared toward the ‘ahem’ more mature customer - 40 year age range and up. Even I admit that my skin has changed and certain products I used even 5 years ago aren’t cutting it anymore. I can see a definitely difference in my skin - how it feels, how it smooths fine lines, in short - I want to keep touching my face even though I need to knock my hand away - after I use La Mer. I’m perfectly happy to also combine La Mer products with Avene or Bioderma and other drugstore/pharmacy brands as well. I find I don’t need to use foundation as much anymore.I hope you enjoyed my review of La Mer products. If you’ve tried a product I didn’t list here, please add it below in the comments. I hope to make this a running list or ‘tag’ of La Mer reviews that users can reference in the future.

[PSA] Routines which involve inadequate cleansing, high moisture, and heavy occlusion are risky... I have spent the past 3.5 months fighting an infection of my face and it’s ass.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi all. I know I’m about to rub r/SCA the wrong way, but I want to share what I’ve been dealing with.Towards the end of 2017, I was desperately trying to get some moisture into my face. This meant reduced cleansing, use of a micellar water usually, multiple gel/hydrating layers, and Vaseline. In January, I started to see patches of tiny white heads pop up in unusual locations. First around the corners of my mouth, then between my eyebrows, and then my forehead. I went to the derm and they gave me antibiotics, and I ended up with a “whitehead” on every single hair follicle in my t-zone.Turns out I had a follicular yeast infection promoted by heavy occlusion.I always had very mild acne, but no other conditions like this. I have it more or less under control, but it is not gone. I have to fight it every day or it comes back; either way, I always have spots. It would be gone if I could be more effective against it (it’s hard to topically treat without nuking my face). I cannot use any creams without messing up my skin.I’m fine, but this has been an expensive, annoying, and embarrassing experience. I’m not telling anyone to give up their glow, but PLEASE be careful with cleaning your skin properly and not going overboard with your layers—especially if you have any suspicions that your skin’s microbiome is out of whack (antibiotics, antifungals, benzoyl peroxide, etc.).Moisturize responsibly, friends.

[Misc] Rant: I got a facial and the esthetician permanently damaged my skin
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm so upset. I received a gift card to this really boujie spa and a facial was part of the package. I had never had a facial before and I was kind of nervous about it. I don't really trust other people with my face, but I did it anyway because I wanted to be pampered. NEVER AGAIN. The esthetician who did my facial had no idea what she was talking about and was so harsh, she caused broken capillaries around my nose which are permanent! She asked me what my routine was and I mentioned I chemically exfoliated, and she said "that's great and all but you should use a scrub every other day to get rid of blackheads"....... I told her I had sensitive skin and that my nose had a few sebaceous filaments, not blackheads, so I would rather not scrub. I could tell she was annoyed with me so I backed off, because I have a tendency to be a know-it-all and I'm trying to work on it. I also have a tendency to be shy and non-confrontational so when she was doing the facial and started using steam, hot towels, and harshly scrubbing my face as if she was scrubbing a pan, I didn't say anything. I know it's my fault. I should have asked her to stop or be more gentle. And now I have permanent damage that will cost at the very least $150 to get lasered off which I just can't justify. I've worked really hard on my skin in order to stop using makeup. This sucks and I'm mad at myself.

[Acne] What cured my butt acne
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Since puberty I've been really prone to BAD butt acne, made worse by the fact that I now exercise 5-6 times per week. I've tried a lot - making sure to rinse off all conditioner run-off in the shower, various acne products, changing right after a workout. Until now the thing that helped most was BP, but that was irritating/very drying and stained my towels. Then about 6-12 months ago or so I stumbled across my miracle product: Smooth Me Ingrown Hair Wipes from European Wax Center.I use one or two pads after a shower and it's honestly a HUGE change - the pimples I had healed up, and I got no more, and it's not irritating at all. It's a struggle to find the ingredient list online but I believe the product has a mix of AHAs and BHAs. I have to buy the product in the store.I'm currently trying out Glossier's Solution, which also says it contains a mix of AHAs and BHAs (and PHAs). It seems to be working, though it leaves my butt a little sticky after use. Also I've had to basically stop working out since I started using it (ankle sprain) so we'll see if it stands up to the test once I start again.I always felt SO embarrassed to have butt acne, so I'm just thrilled that I've found a fix and wanted to share. Good luck!

[PSA] Skincare tips on Amazon Alexa this week
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I bought an Alexa recently and was trying to figure out her skills. I like to listen while I'm doing my routines and doing makeup, etc. I recently found out about "My Beauty Chat". It gives blurbs about skincare, makeup, hair, fashion, etc. and is hosted by the beauty editors from Cosmo, Bazaar, and other magazines. This week their guest is Dr. Josh Zeichner, dermatologist at Mount Sinai in NYC. They discussed the uses and chemistry behind Micellar water, types of cleansing, exfoliation, moisturizers... Very interesting! They also have daily beauty tips. Just ask Alexa to open My Beauty Chat and you can hear that day's episodes (short, like 5 min each).

[Acne] Cried at my esthetician‘s today!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
With happiness I promise! So thanks to the life that is PCOS I’ve been dealing with cystic acne and lots of clogged pores under the skin for years. Ten years of Roaccutane on and off (I am not joking) took care of some of it and I don’t get huge cysts often now.But the under the skin stuff never went away. I can point to filament that’s been under my skin in the same spot since I was 11. It makes my skin bumpy and ruins the overall nice quality of my skin!My esthetician had done some chemical peels on me over the last six months and today she finally went and got the stubborn bits with a hypodermic needle and gentle squeezing. I know everyone’s opinion on this is different but this is a licensed professional with 15+ years of experience in a sterile environment. After she finished and did a mask etc I got up to look and burst into tears. All the crap that had been under my skin for years was gone! She did such an amazing job that there were only little red prick marks and those have mostly faded six hours later.I’ve never seen my cheeks smooth and unclogged, I’ve never had a smooth forehead. It did more for me than medication ever could. She said I’d probably need maintenance appointments which is fine.People who think my obsession with skincare is stupid clearly haven’t suffered with problematic skin their whole goddamn lives! But the difference she made for me, astounding. I’m so happy!

[Haul] Trying to start a routine and browsing in TJMaxx is a bad idea. Send Help.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
https://imgur.com/a/Gqo3jLeft my house to run errands and stopped by TJMaxx and ended up getting in over my head buying products and now I’m not even sure how to make a routine out of this.I went to TJMaxx for dish towels and this is what I left with instead.Current routine is kind of non existent. Face wash (varies cetaphil, miccelar water or black soap when removing makeup) sometimes I use moisturizer. Usually I don’t.Skin concerns, I have redness (mild rosacea) on my cheeks, congestion on my chin and oily t zone when I fly (I’m a flight attendant) otherwise skin is normal.

[Miscellaneous] Those who can, do; those who decant, please teach!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
If you consider yourself to be the Count of Decant (aka a pretty seasoned decanter), I want to learn more about your ways!Have you got a preferred kind of bottle for product type/viscosity? (I know airless pumps are well-loved for gels/creams, and spray bottles for watery hydrating toners. But what do you use for oils that come in dropper bottles, for e.g.?) More questions: are there specific sizes you prefer or find particularly effective? At what point do you refill? Do you have exclusive bottles/droppers/syringes for each product, or just make sure to wash them thoroughly? Please feel free to decant any additional decanting tips!

What is your ideal "Shelfie" shelf like? Design help! [misc]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi there guys! I'm an Industrial Designer who is currently in school, and I have been tasked with making a final project for a stacking, household item. Naturally, I want my item to be for skincare, and I thought this would be the best place for feedback! I want to create the perfect stacking shelf-like holder that you can put on your sink, on a table, or anywhere else. This product will ideally be utilitarian and an elegant way of showcasing all of your beloved products. So I ask you, what are some features you would love in this product? What does is hold? How big is it? What is it made of? What is your dream shelfie cabinet/shelf like? Please let me know! Any and all feedback is helpful and greatly appreciated, I hope to show it to you guys when I'm done with it too!-love, and skincare addicted designer
