[Skin Concerns]Very darkened skin under eyes and on the nose due to intense rubbing for over 15 years. How to get rid of it?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I m 24 male, brown skin. Have been rubbing my eyes and the skin under the eyes for a long long time, more like a habit i cant get rid of. Its now very dark and went to a dermatologist 4 months ago and given hydrocortisone and hydroquinone, she was a physician assistant and didnt seem like a great doctor on first appointment, i didnt go back again though. the treatment i used actually worsened the area so i stopped after 45 days. skin is dry and seems ugly normally but it seems healthy when i have just washed my face. i would like to PM the pic if any one knows what to do. I dont use any skin care apart from cerave moisturizer, around 3-4 days/week. Any suggestion for starting a routine is appreciated.

[Skin Concerns] and [Routine Help] Need to start a routine soon; Can I use Bio Oil, ScarGuard and Cocoa Butter at the same time? How?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm going to be having a major surgery on my chest soon and I've tried to scour the internet for advice on these three products. So far I've heard great things about all three.I understand that Scarguard has to stay on for at least 12 or 24 hours to be effective, but how can I incorporate the others as well? Could I mix the bio oil and cocoa butter together, apply it, then put a scarguard silicone sheet over it? I'm not sure how to go about this, and I think this may be the best subreddit to post to. Thanks

It has hyaluronic acid, spf 15, and it is great for sensitive skin. I can't find it on the interwebs. I wrote the "d" word in the name down when recommended and the paper got ripped leaving only 221 which was the end of the name. Any clues much appreciated.

[Product Question] OTC products containing azelaic acid?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
The glamglow supermud mask has it but it also contains some irritating ingredients and it's insanely expensive... Does anyone know of other OTC products that contain azelaic acid? I know pocketderm/curology offers it in their formulations but I don't need it as a daily treatment so I don't want to do a subscription service. I don't mind purchasing online, any suggestions are appreciated!

[PERSONAL] My boyfriend listened! He's changing his routine!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm so happy. After constant reading and research on here, I developed a working routine that has helped minimize my breakouts and made my skin look so much healthier! So I sarted making comments about it to my partner, showing him the changes and talking about products. He seemed interested and also noticed the differences. Now he has always had a pretty standard routine since high school that really hasn't changed much. Between his beard and oily complexion he gets constant breakouts and has a lot of scarring from his younger years. This is not a problem for me and I love him all the same, but I know acne as an adult can be disheartning so I decided to see if he'd let me help.So he finally ran out of face wash- you know some generic face wash with microbeads and no acids in it or anything. I was telling him about mine which is Neutrogena Pore Definer with Alpha and Beta Hydroxy (I love it dearly). I explained to him how the Alpha and Beta Hydroxy works and he agreed to try it!Then he admitted that the face wash he uses at the gym (which he's there 4-5 days out of the week) wasn't very good. So I bought him a bottle to put his new wash in so he's consistently using the same one! I also picked up some Stridex in the red box for us and after a few uses on myself I'm in love and he's going to try them too! It's a small step, but hopefully in the right direction for him! Next we'll try to tackle moisturizer.

[Skin concerns] Not sure if my current regime is helping with my oily skin

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi there; extremely new to this sub and I just wanted to say that everyone seems so nice and helpful here! So, I have moderately oily skin and large pores. Had horrible acne as a teenager, but now any pimples I do get occur only on my chin or jawline. I don't have serious blackheads, but my large pores do trap a lot of stuff on/around my nose. It's such a relief to have only minor acne these days. In the morning (and usually at night), I use the Neutrogena Pink Graprefruit acne scrub-- have been for years. I moisturize with Cetaphil and use Clinique makeup daily. My problem is that after a short amount of time, the oil from my pores tends to soak through my makeup and it's not hot. This also seems to highlight the scarring I have on my cheeks from my teen years. (It's not bad, but in certain lights my face looks a bit rough.) Is there a better way to control my oiliness than the Neutrogena PG Scrub/Cetaphil combo? Has anyone had success with other cleansers? I plan to try a few chemical peels (with a dermatologist, of course) to reduce my scarring. Has anyone found that they help with pore reduction as well? I'm sure accutane might help with at least one of these issues, but I'm one of those people who is deeply uncomfortable with anything beyond topical treatments. I would love any advice at all re: oily skin and large pores!Bonus product question: Anyone ever try a Konjac sponge?

[Personal] ScA Routine Success :)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Just wanted to share my success story with you all! About 4 weeks ago I came on here for help with my oily, acne-prone, red/irritated face. I realized my skin was severely dehydrated and I was being WAY too harsh to my skin. I stopped using my alcohol-filled astringent, my Rx benzaclin, and scrubbing my face with soap and a washcloth (cringe). I switched my cleanser to cerave hydrating and my moisturizer to cerave am/pm, and started using only the stridex SA pads and some Rx clindamycin I had left over from awhile ago. I also added a mineral oil cleanse at night before my cleanser and put vaseline on the really dry, flaky, irritated areas. AND WOW. Within a week I stopped having flaky skin on my face and less redness, and no burning/stinging when I applied products. And now at 4 weeks a LOT of my acne has gone away. There is still some there and some redness, and I have an appointment with a derm next week to see about getting something less irritating than the benzaclin to help clear up the rest (been using it since I was a teen with great success, but recently its been too drying, I am now 26).Anyway, thanks ScA for helping me see the error in my ways! I wish I would have had the foresight to take B&A photos.

Winter is coming! Looking for a more heavy duty moisturizer. [Product Question]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone! I found a great moisturizer for summer, but now that winter is coming it is just not holding up for my skin.I tried Cerave earlier this year and it was just awful for my skin. I'd prefer something with aloe higher in the ingredients, and looking for a day moisturizer so sunscreen included is helpful. Currently I am using Avalon Organics moisture plus lotion, and it is lovely, but my skin is getting drier as the cold is moving in.I would love to hear what you have in your arsenal for the winter! [skin concern] My skin is dry and flaky... Not sure what to do anymore.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Some background. I used to have very oily and extremely acne prone skin until last year. After thinking about when exactly my skin started to become dry... it started when I began taking the birth control pill that I'm on. I've never heard of that being a side effect but I know that birth control can help acne -- and my skin has also stopped breaking out (yay). But now I'm left with very dry skin. It's mostly around my nose, mouth, and there are some patches on my cheeks and forehead. I just don't really know how to make them go away!Current routine:(At night) OCM with baby oil if I'm not lazyClinique Take the Day Off for eye/lip makeup at night alsoYes to Cucumbers Makeup Wipe for the rest of my face, just switched to these a couple days agoRed Stridex -- stopped using this because I noticed the dry patches got worse when I used itSimple TonerClinique Laser Repair Serum OR a jojoba oil based serumPonds Cold Cream MoisturizerIn the morning, I cleanse with Neutrogena Extra Gentle Cream CleanserIn the morning before I do my makeup I usually put on some of the Ponds moisturizer as well but it only helps a little. The Yes to Cucumbers makeup wipe I'm finding makes my skin burn a lot so I think I may be allergic to something in that (never had that problem with makeup wipes before). I have pure argan oil that I put on my face too but nothing seems to help for more than a few hours. My methods aren't the best, I know. So I'm looking for dry skin tips and product suggestions. Please help!

[Acne] Apparently Accutane(isotret-hexal) works so well that you can get it completely free now in germany.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
My mind was kinda blown. It used to be really expensive and you obviously had pay a prescription fee. Now you pay 0. And it only costs ~40 bucks for the biggest pack there is, so derms are much more likely to prescribe it! Kinda crazy I remember having to pay >300 bucks for it 15 years ago! Obviously this also has to do with lobby work and politics, but well my derm says its free cause it works so well so maybe there is something to it :p

[Skin concerns]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi guys! I'm looking for a clay mask and an exfoliation product for my face. I don't know much about masks, so I'd love some recommendations. I have combination skin, with most of the oily bits being on my upper cheeks/underneath my eyes, my forehead, and my nose. I also get tiny little bits of cystic acne on my chin very occasionally, but it isn't usually a trouble spot for me. I currently use;Warm water on my face.Nude Daily Cleanser, by Nude by Nature, to cleanse my face. I also use this to remove most make-up, though I use Lucas' Pawpaw Ointment to remove mascara, eyeliner, and eyeshadow if the eyeshadow is being stubborn and won't come off.Cold water on my face.Witch Hazel on a cotton wipe to tone.Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula with vitamin E, with Coconut Oil. This is a new product to my routine, replacing the Cetaphil moisturiser, but it seems to be working fabulously as a moisturiser.I'm looking for some sort of exfoliation product I can use, chemical or not, and I've heard good things about clay masks, so what's the deal with them? :) I'd also be happy for a product recommendation that helps to close up pores more effectively than cold water does. I'm in Australia and would prefer to pay under $20 per product. DIY stuff is also welcome. Thanks!!

[Product Question] Does anyone know how long it takes for Clindamycin to absorb into the skin?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Just wondering if anyone has any information on how long it takes for clindamycin topical lotion to absorb. I'm having trouble finding anything on the Internet. I don't think my face is reacting well to something in my lotion base so I'd like to wash it off after a hour or so. It also seems to make my face wayyy overproduce oil or maybe that's just the lotion base as well. I'm hesitant to switch to the gel or solution due to dryness concerns. Is washing off clindamycin a thing? I know I've heard of people using BP this way to decrease irritation/dryness but I'm not finding much about this method for clindamycin.

[acne] about to give up the oil search... Is this last option worth it?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Okay for reference I probably have the largest pores anyone, even here, has come across. I recently tried a professional steam/black head extraction thing at a day spa and FUCK YES it was the only time I have ever seen my pores so clear- she couldn't get ALL of them out (trust me, if you saw me you wouldn't expect her to) it lasted that way for a week or so (obviously they fill again, especially with applying things to the face) but I was just happy to know there's somewhere I can go if I want that done (not sure if like waxing the pores get better each successive time they are cleared by anyway). So with moisturizer the only thing I've found that doesn't clog me up is 100% aloe gel. I know, I know... If its working why change? It's just... Idk I want a little bit more moisture and would love to be using an oil for deep hydration but I have tried every one under the sun (note; even hemp, Argan and Shea butter - all MEANT to be zero comedogenic) however my last bet (if I choose to go through finding out whether it clogs or not) is sunflower oil... Apparently it's literally a guarantee it won't clog pores. Has anyone had experience with it? Comments? Opinions? Thanks!

[Acne] struggling with recent stubborn acne... minimal response with BHA

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Recently (~3 weeks), I've been having issues with stubborn acne on my cheeks near my nose and on my chin. Here is a photo. The blemishes are red and "soft," not hard like a zit, and it doesn't really feel like there is anything inside. There are more than the picture captures -- I just couldn't get them on camera. When I feel my skin, it's definitely bumpy. The really weird thing is that on my chin, the acne is kind of isolated on one side, whereas on my cheeks, it is on both sides.I don't think it's a phone or touching or anything like that -- I am careful about anything touching my face. I have a messed up sleeping schedule but this is not new, though it might be worse now. My acne is normally hormonal but it has been under control with BCP for years and my cheeks were never an issue. I switched to a new pill several months ago but it has not given me issues. I break out now and then on my chin but this is unusual.I've been using a trusted BHA nightly (PC) and it helps a little but the acne is stubborn. Especially on my chin, it seems to have almost no effect.Recently, I did try a new foundation, but I was using it on and off for a month and it never gave me issues. I have switched back to an old foundation for a week now but improvement has been very slow (so I wonder if it was an issue at all). My only other "newish" (been using for a few months) item is Banila Clean It Zero, which is a cleansing balm. I haven't had issues with it but I'm not sure anymore.Routine (all stuff I've used for years, besides Banila, which I have used for a few months now):Cerave hydrating wash (Banila Clean It Zero for makeup)Cerave lotionPC Clear regular toner (BHA 2%) - (I don't always use this but recently, I have been using it every night)Also, this is kind of random, but I have been wondering if this could be a fungal thing. I don't really know but it's so stubborn I was curious. I can't remember the last time I dealt with such stubborn acne -- besides the really bad zit or two.Anyway, any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

[B&A] [Selfie] I nearly started crying today. (23/F)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been hoping for a long time that I'd actually want to post pictures of my naked face on the internet. Well, today's the day. After washing my face, I decided to look back on my before pictures and I almost started ugly crying. PS: I'm sorry for the wall of text. I wouldn't be mad if this was deleted.
Skin Progress
Background- I've been battling acne since I was 18. At first, it was mild. It started to slowly slip into this terrifying mask of textured red. September of this year marked the worst of it, as you can see in the pictures. Disregarding the actual aesthetic aspect of acne, it affected my social life. I stopped wanting to go out. I was so self-abusive because everyone around me had it figured out, but I didn't. When it started to snowball into the absolute worst, I started dating someone who told me, and I quote, "You would be perfect if it weren't for your skin." This has never left me, and I still freak out about it daily. (He immediately apologized.) I started getting even more into makeup, putting on a thick mask of foundation/ concealer daily. I tried every routine I could possibly think of. Cheap products, expensive products, skincare lines (I'm looking at you, Proactiv), kitchen products. (Yup, you guessed it. Baking soda. Cringe.) Nothing worked. When I wasn't able to look myself in the mirror, I decided to try Pocket Derm. I'm going to be honest with you, it didn't magically clear it up. I can't say I've been 100% faithful, so I don't really believe in my results. I also started using birth control for the first time in years. (Stela, if you're curious. Super painful at first, but it levels out.) I don't know what I did to actually get this far, but I'm terrified to try something new and ruin it.On to the routine.Morning: Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Hydrating Cleanser (Creamy Formula) Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream (Extra Dry Skin)Night: Neutrogena Cleansing Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser (Makeup Removal) Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Hydrating Cleanser (Creamy Formula) Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream (Extra Dry Skin)Masks/ Scrubs (Occasionally) Sephora Green Tea Mask Peter Lamas Exfoliating Pumpkin Facial Scrub (Honestly not great.)Side Notes: Honestly, some nights I fall asleep with makeup on (I know, I'm ashamed too.) and I wake up with maybe one new pimple, but everything else is smoother. Once every two-ish weeks, if I gave my skin a really thorough clean the night before, I'll just rinse my face with warm water and moisturize with the Neutrogena. I miss doing masks, but I'm afraid to try a new one with all of the success that I've had. I'm really interested in the "My Beauty Diary" masks, but I don't even know where to begin. I'm looking for something to get rid of the remaining redness, but I don't really know where to start there either. If you made it all the way through, thank you!

help! I get [acne] throughout the day but as soon as I wash my face at night or when I wake up in the morning my skin is relatively clear. Any make up suggestions? 23/F

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm currently on Junel birth control and taking minocycline for my face -- also using Dermalogica face wash. When I wake up and at night after I was my face, it's relatively clear (minus some more "normal" small zits). Throughout the day I get oily and contract a large number of small bumpy zits along my jaw/cheeks/chin, but no heads on the pimples. As I've said, once I wash my face, they're gone. For make up, I've recently (within the past year) used Nars, Mac, Revlon, and just sampled Too Faced Born This Way. Nothing seems to give me an all day coverage while not clogging my pours....ANY suggestions on makeup? Or any other skin routines I should be aware of?? Anything is helpful as I'm totally FED up!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
My routine consists of every morning:Using the OxyDerm Pure Oxygen Facial Cleansing DeviceWhile in the shower using the Clarisonic Mia 2 brush with some African black soap that says it exfoliates and is good for acne while moisturizing.Using Humane Acne Wash 10% benzyl peroxide and leaving it on for one minute before rinsingAt night:Do everything except for using the soap with the brush.I'm not sure if it's really working, it seems to be drying some spots out. A couple of years later when i was 15-16 my forehead cleared up but the acne was all over my cheeks and the like. Now since maybe 2 years its mainly camping my chin and its cystic acne (no head, hard-ish deep bumps). I still sometimes get a pimple on my cheeks but i think i got that area under control with a basic routine:Am: Cerave foaming cleanser, stridex red, cerave in the tub moisturizer Pm: Same thing.Im wondering if its hormonal if the only possible "cure" would be antibiotics or something along those lines.Thank you for your time.

[Acne]Need Help with Scalp Acne

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've always had mild but persistent acne problem on my face and a very severe acne problem on my scalp(like waking up with pillow with blood because the pimple on my scalp popped).Six years ago, my derm recommended me to use Nizoral shampoo, and it worked like magic. I used it once a week initially, but then after a while it stopped working. I started to use it twice a week and it started to work again. Cut the story short, shortly before I started accutane, I rotate between neutrogena t-gel, selsum blue, and nizoral every day(on top of clyndamycin topical on affected area). My derm then put me on accutane, and that was probably the best time of my life. Everything cleared up, including the KP on my arm.Fast forward today(8 months after accutane), acne on my face is gone, but both KP and the acnes on my scalp came back. I tried some people's suggestion of using organic products(Lush), and it only made it worse. I also tried the experiment of not washing my hair daily(because some people claim that by removing the oil it actually increases the oil production). I tried that for 3 weeks(washing with only clean hot water), and the result was horrendous. There was no patch of skin on my head that had no cystic acne. Everywhere I touch had bumps. It was quite gross. I went back to using Nizoral everyday, and it help contains it. Most of it cleared up, but I still have 5-10 bumps at any given time(as opposed to 30-40 bumps, and yes I count them because I use clindamycin topical on affected area.)Is there a way to clear it? Should I go back to accutane again?

[Routine Help] Oily/greasy hair/face problems after quitting birth control (x-post from r/TheGirlSurvivalGuide)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
First posted in TheGirlSurvivalGuide and was told you lovely people would be able to help me out.Problems started after I quit taking birth control a few months ago (late Aug). I knew there would be some hormonal adjustments, but this is getting tiring. My husband and I got married over the summer and we decided it's about baby time, so no more hormones. First week or two was ok, or at least expected. Text book readjustment of hormones. After a month, the oil and acne is the only thing remaining. Should I trust my dermatologist if I think she is getting a kickback from products she recommends? [misc]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I finally went to the dermatologist for my rosacea. She prescribed me two things (Aczone in the am and Finacea every other day in the pm) She also recommended I get something called T2 as a daily face wash. When I googled it to try to find it, I saw my dermatologist is on the ad for it!!! and there's only one website that sells it. It just feels really sketchy to me and I honestly don't think my doctor should be getting a kickback (at least I'm assuming there is one) for products she recommends to her patients. It's been a month and I have my next check up coming up to see how things are going, but I refused to purchase her product on principle. But my rosacea hasn't cleared up as much as I would like it, and I can just see the conversation now with her urging me to buy her product. Does this make anyone else cringe? Am I over reacting? Should I just waste the 35 bucks plus shipping so I can try something else if it doesn't work? I know it MIGHT work, but even if it does, what other products will she recommend that is probably more expensive that she gets a kick back from?

[Acne] college girl with clogged pores :(

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey! I used to be an active member here, but not so much anymore. I've been really busy with school.I'm 18 now and my skin is way better than it used to be. However, I still wear makeup and sweat almost every day because of all the walking on campus. Right now, my main concern is my clogged pores. They're all over my face! On my forehead, my nose, my upper cheeks, and even around my lips.I have oily skin, but it feels kinda flaky sometimes. Oh, and I use Cera Ve in the tub.I know some people are going to recommend oil cleansing, but that's never worked well on me, no matter what oil I use. (I've used coconut, mineral, almond, tee tree, and even tried to join the slug club)TL;DR: How can I unclog my pores if the OCM doesn't work well on me?

[Skin concerns] rash underarms

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Strange rash appeared, both arms. I saw it last night when i got home from work. I bathed and put 1% hydrocortisone cream on it. I took a benadryl and went to bed. No improvement. It is absent from the area i use antiperspirant (secret clinical). Suspected culprit- i did laundry the previous night and noticed a glob of detergent on the outside that didnt wash out (tide powder). I have used tide my whole life but i thought it may be due to not rinsing out and was confined to the pit area since it makes contact w my skin the most.I reapplied hydrocortizone cream this morning. I did not use deodorant. It itches and there are tiny raised bumps. Can i do anything else? Would a sheetmask help? I have a great variety of product and i can buy it (usa) if i don't. I am trying to not sweat, it is very uncomfortable. Can i use powder for sweat? Aquaphor for friction?Bonus- my Halloween costume tomorrow for work is sleeveless! Burns us precious!

[Personal][Misc][Rant] So tired of this shit, considering taking antibiotics again

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I was on Minocycline for over a year and it kept most of it at bay, but when I went off of it it got progressively worse. I had really hoped that it would keep it away for good but no such luck. I woke up today with three new, deep pimples. I'm pretty terrified of antibiotics because I know how terrible they are for you, and they're really only a bandaid for the problem. But I'm starting to get cysts, which I haven't really had to deal with in the past. I'm sitting with the presription in my hand and I really just want to start taking it again because I know it's the only thing that works. I'm thinking I'll use the time on it to incorporate an active topical. I have several tubes of tretinoin, adapaline, bp, clindamycin... And I have BHA from Paula's Choice. I think this might be an okay plan but I really don't know. I'm at such a loss. My face hurts and I want to cry but unfortunately I'm like half psychopath and crying is difficult for me. Always having to deal with acne really fucks with me. I have incredibly low self esteem to begin with, and an array of mental health issues that are currently untreated. I'm worried that if my acne gets any worse it will push me over the edge. I feel like such a drama queen for being upset about my skin, but there is no way to explain how much of a toll it takes on me. I quit my job, I ditched my only friend, I make excuses so I don't have to see my family, I rarely leave my house. Sometimes I just don't know if I can deal with all this.Sorry for the rant and the wall of text, no one will read this probably but I needed to get it out.

[Routine Help] Questions about acne spot treatment.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I'm pretty new to this subreddit and the world of skincare, but I wanted to look into acne spot treatment because it's something I've never used before.I have pretty normal skin, it can feel a little dry once I wash it (wish I assume is normal) but it does get oily once I wear makeup, which I think is what causes me to have breakouts. I don't have horrible acne and my skin is pretty free of acne but I always have at least one or two bumps on my face that don't have a "head" I guess you would say. They're just reddened, raised blemishes that can sometimes be a little painful. Can you spot treat these types of blemishes? Or can you only spot treat cystic acne? If so, what kind of treatment should I be using?

[Acne] Physical Exfoliation

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Happy Friday! Just a note about physical exfoliation. I typically see a lot on chemical exfoliation here at SCA, which I fully back, and have introduced into my routine. However, even with a solid and consistent routine I was still getting a fair amount of pustule and occasional cystic bumps on my cheeks. I had a lot of redness and it was bothering me. So even though it seemed kinda like a BS product I picked up a konjac sponge at Target. Obviously might not work for everyone, but over the past 2 weeks it's really calmed down my cheeks. I still have a nasty here and there but for me it seems to be a good addition. I tend to be a bit oily and I think that some of my dead skin would clog up my pores on my cheeks, and the light exfoliation from the sponge in the AM/PM helps to shed those skin cells. I don't get much acne on my chin, jaw, or forehead - it's really just localized on my cheekbones (maybe a bit of rosecea as well). If you're having similar problems maybe give it a shot? Just a lil anecdote for your Friday.

[Review] I found a great product from Vichy I'd like to share.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I work in an enormous dermatology clinic full of some of the best doctors (some probably in the world). About 4 months ago I went off the pill, and 2 months afterwards, my hormones started to punish me. I had HORRIBLE acne like I've never had before in my life, super deep in the skin, painful, pushing on my teeth, cysts, whiteheads, huge pimples that would get blood everywhere when accidentally popped- everything was everywhere. It started when I went on vacation with my boyfriend and I was too embarrassed to leave our rental apartment while there.I worked up the courage to ask one of the doctors I work with to look at my skin. I haven't been coming into work without a huge amount of Clinique double face powder for a while now. The acne was hidden just okay, but my coworkers would comment on it. The doctor gave me an entire box of skin care products from Vichy and a prescription for Epiduo (she said there's no point in taking antiobiotics if it's hormonal acne). I haven't even needed to use the Epiduo yet, because after 2 days of using the Vichy cleansing gel and moisturizing lotion twice a day, my skin is doing so much better. My spots are disappearing and finally scarring over instead of new ones appearing on/next to old ones. It feels great, and you can also wear makeup over the moisturizing lotion after it drys (1min. tops). I can only hope that I continue to get the free samples from my workplace in the future.

[Misc] If you could change your favourite BHA/AHA product, what would you do?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Ok, so in a while, I'll be releasing my own skincare line. (yaaay finally :) ) first released will be BHA and AHA toners/serums (not sure if I'll go further than that yet). Now, I have a pretty good idea, what I want in them, I also have an ex pharmacist working with me (she owns the firm that will be producing it).. but if you could change some things to the existing formulas, or create your own.. what would it be? Would you add more humectants? More anti inflammatory ingredients? More calming ingredients? Change some ingredients flagged by cosdna with others? Exchange butylene glycol with something else? :)I hope I'm not breaking any rules or crossing any lines here.. I just want to get as much info as possible (as none of my friends or family use such products)..Thanks for any kind of contribution :)

[Acne] 19F starting to get acne for the first time

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi, so I've gone through high school with pretty good skin. It's always been a bit dry except for around the nose. Recently I've been getting patches of acne on my right cheek and now I'm getting spots everywhere!! My routine has always been warm water and a special washer meant for faces that I clean regularly and I use gentle Cetaphil occasionally. I moisturise in the mornings and evenings and wear light foundation most days which I always remove (even when I'm drunk). My diet is the healthiest it's ever been, I mostly eat nuts, cereals and fruit. My sister is 17 and she has terrible acne that started when she was 16 so I thought I had avoided it. What can I do to prevent even worse breakouts?

[Product Question] Has anyone used belif skincare from Sephora?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I received their true cream aqua bomb as a free sample a few weeks ago and loved it, but I'm hesitant to include more of their product line in my skincare routine. I have combination skin that is prone to breakouts and haven't really found what works for me, so I wanted to get some feedback before changing anything. My current routine kind of controls the breakouts, but there is definitely some room for improvement in that area. I'll be 32 at the end of December, but I'm not really seeing too many age related problems just yet. I live in a dry climate at the moment, but will be moving in about a month to a slightly more humid climate, which has made my skin appear more oily in the past.I'm currently using MaryKay's Timewise cleanser for combination/oily skin twice a day, their night time serum at night, the aqua bomb from belif twice a day, an avocado oatmeal mask I got at walgreens 2-3 times a week(at night), the MK timewise eye cream twice a day, and Clean & Clear advantage acne spot treatment as needed. I also use the MK Timewise Microdermabrasion set once a week at night.

[Misc] Those who take spironolactone, what other medicines are safe for you to use?

My pocketderm/curology doc prescribed spiro to me a few weeks ago and basically just said "This might make you dizzy upon standing, increase urination, and it can affect your potassium levels so don't take supplements."Last night I had a headache and took ibuprofen and I didn't notice any ill effects, but today out of curiosity I was looking up drug interactions and it seems like nearly everything (including ibuprofen, oops) is unsafe to take when you're on spiro. The lists are so long of what not to take, it seems like it's easier to ask what can I freakin take while on this stuff? What can I safely take for a headache? Can I have any kinds of sedatives at all (like if I can't sleep, or need dental work)? Should I get a medical alert bracelet indicating that I'm on this drug?

[Product Question] Do wash-off masks ALWAYS need to be washed off?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
With specific reference to dermalogica's "Skin hydrating masque".Basically, got a facial recently, aesthetician told me I had dehydrated skin (agree), and plugged this masque (which I'd already been gifted by a friend, just never used, because... AB skincare funsies :D). Anyway, she said to wash it off after 20mins, and when I asked why, her response was "because it's a masque".Now, this may just be my AB-influenced-nerdiness coming out, but... why? Like, is it some sort of uber-occlusive? Is there an ingredient that's useful during first 20mins, but detrimental after that? Can I not just apply a thin layer as the final step of my skincare routine a few times a week, like a sleeping pack?Would really appreciate any answers :)My skin type: Sensitive, dehydrated, combo-oily (probably)Ingredient list: Water (Aqua), Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Squalane, Dimethicone, Leuconostoc/ Sorbus Aucuparia Fruit Ferment Filtrate, Epilobium Angustifolium Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Codium Tomentosum Extract, Solanum Lycopersicum (Tomato) Seed Oil, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Tocopherol, Daucus Carota Sativa (Carrot) Root Extract, Beta-Carotene, Salicornia Herbacea Extract Triethylhexanoin, Carrageenan, Fructose, Glucose, Sucrose, Urea, Dextrin, Alanine, Glutamic Acid, Aspartic Acid, Hexyl Nicotinate, Sodium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate, Hydrogenated Polydecene, Trideceth-10, Behenyl Alcohol, Cocamide MIPA, Glyceryl Oleate, Calcium Citrate, Hexylene Glycol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sea Salt, Sodium Carbomer, Potassium Hydroxide, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate. [Acne] First time poster with great skin- but dermatillomania

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey, guys! I'm Ray- nonbinary trans guy, LUSH addict, and huge compulsive skin picker. I'm quite literally a skincare (or...skinharm) addict. My skin is actually pretty naturally clear and even, but I have patches of... not acne, but red, slightly raised spots on my chest, breasts (ugh) and one side of my jaw, as well as the occasional huge pimple (sometimes cystic, yikes.) My skin is naturally dry but I moisturize. My main issue is that my mental illness makes it really difficult for me to handle the process of wound healing. I really don't want advice on how to stop picking- I'm working on that with my therapist. I really just want to know how to lessen the grody and perplexing red bumps, and deal with scabs.Current routine:It's wintertime, so I'm cleansing with Kalamazoo from Lush as it also has moisturizing properties. My skin is naturally quite dry.Spot treat with tea tree oil (diluted), aloe and witch hazel.Moisturize with Imperialis (Lush).Occasionally apply a homemade scrub of honey, coconut oil and sea salt.Use a gentle konjac sponge to exfoliate.None of the above have caused any problems and have generally improved my skin, so I'm mostly concerned with additional measures to treat scabs and these red... not-sure-whats. Post acne lesions? New scars? Not sure. I can describe them further if needed.Hope and fucking pray that I can resist picking my skin to death. If anyone else has dermatillomania, cheers and good luck to you as well.I cannot post pictures at this time, but I might later. :)

[skin concerns] ever since I hit puberty my face has been a mess.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I started getting acne at the age of twelve. I'm now about to turn 21 in a few weeks and I still have acne all over my face, on my forehead, on my chin, and on my cheeks. I've tried a lot of products. Th4 first one was proactiv, I used it throughout the first years of high school. It made the area around my mouth really dry and it only seemed to make my acne worse. I also tried Neutrogena's oil free cleanser and I saw no results. I tried applying aloe Vera on my face and never saw any results, so I stopped. I bought a bar of Asepxia, and same as the others, it made my skin really dry, no results. A year ago I was using the Cetaphil cleanser, but it also made face feel really dry after. I went to a dermatologist and he recommended th3 effaclar cleanser along with effaclar duo. I tried them for about 5 months and I saw a little improvement, but it made my face feel tight and dry also. Then about 8 months ago I found out about this subreddit . I looked around and then I decided to buy the cerave foaming cleanser and cerave moisturizer. On the first day I used it I noticed a big difference, it made my skin feel really smooth and not dry and tight. The moisturizer did not make my face look shiny. I've been using those two products ever since, but I still get a lot of acne. About a month ago I bought paulas choice 2% Bha because I had read about how it was a lot of people's holy grail product and I thought it would be the same for me, but no, I started getting huge cysts on my cheeks and forehead. I knew it wasn't a purge, so I stopped using it. Last week I added the effaclar duo back to my routine, but yesterday I decided to stop using it because it made me break out all over my face.Since the paulas choice bha didn't work for me, I bought the Walgreens acne pads with salicylic acid and I've been using those only on my forehead to see how my skin reacts. I'm seeing good results so far.My routine at the moment is: Cerave foaming cleanser Walgreens acne pads Cerave moisturizing lotionSame thing for morning and night.I feel that my routine may be a little simple. What would you guys recommend I add that has worked for you.My skin type is oily, mainly in my cheeks and forehead

[Acne] 20F, Cystic acne, scarring, and possible purging?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Pictures from a post I made 2 months ago: http://imgur.com/a/XJnORPictures I took about 5 minutes ago: http://imgur.com/a/TFEU3I completely started over with my routine once my skin started going crazy about two months ago. My current routine is: AM & PM CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser Stridex in the red box (sometimes skip in AM) Wait 30 minutes CeraVe LotionI have basically lost all patience and hope with this. My skin looks way worse pertaining to redness and acne and I assume scarring. I've experienced more whiteheads and cysts that keep returning. I touch my face far less as well. My skin texture has improved on the other areas of my face, but around my chin, jaw, and edges of my cheeks I'm all broken out and occasionally itchy. I caved and have a dermatologist appointment next week, but I'm sure they'll load me up on topicals and antibiotics. I've had my fair share of different derms over the years, which is why I'm not super stoked about going because the acne keeps returning. Any insight/past experiences about what is going on would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

[Acne] 21F developing cystic acne for first time in life -need help!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello Skin Care Addiction! A little background about my skin problems: I have combo skin - it's oily in the T-zone but gets dried out if I don't use moisturizer everyday. Up until may my routine was fairly simple and I'd only ever develop acne in my t-zone (almost never on my cheeks) and it was usually small whiteheads that I could gently pop without scarring. I used the oil cleanse method, witch's hazel as toner, salicylic acid spot treatment and cetaphil lotion. November- May my skin was the best it's ever been. Then in the beginning of May I developed severe mono, my spleen ruptured and was removed. I spent a week in the hospital. During that time (and the two weeks recovery after that) I couldn't take care of my skin and it got pretty dried out. At the end of may I was careful to rehydrate it with moirturizer and I thought it was all better. Towards the end of June I started to develop acne on my cheeks. There was one particular spot just below my jawline on my right side that developed a bunch on deep, red pimples that hurt terribly, took forever to heel and left red scars. That then spread to my right cheek and then eventually to my left cheek. Now I get deep, painful cystic acne on both my cheeks that leave horrible scars so it constantly looks as if my cheeks are covered in acne even if I only have a couple pimples at any one point in time. Since June I've done a couple things to change my routine, all gradually and one at a time but none of it seems to be working - if anything it just seems to be getting worse! My routine is as follows: Am: Rinse with water, sebamed care gel, biore UV aqua rich. Now days I don't wear makeup 6/7 days a week because I'm trying to let my skin breathe. I used to be able to wear makeup everyday and be fine thoughPM. Oil cleanse method (1/3 caster 2/3 Almond), salicylic spot treatment, CeraVe in the tub. 1-2 nights I use tretinoin cream 0.05%A bit more info: The beginning of February I switched from the combo pill to the Mirena IUD. While in the hospital in May I developed a kidney infection so I was on very strong antibiotics for about 3 weeks. I've been on tretinoin for about a month, since seeing a NP at my school clinic. I'm having trouble with it. I only use 1-2 times a week. I make sure to wait 30 min after washing my face to apply it, only use a pea size amount and moisturize but every time I use it all of my skin peals over the 5 days after I use it and my acne gets worse immediately after use. Even after a month I haven't been able to increase how frequently I use it.I'm wondering if my new acne could be from one of the following? - The Mirena -Could I have picked up some sort of skin bacteria in the hospital? - Could being on very strong antibiotics for so long have somehow messed up my skin biome?I've attached some photos to show you whats wrong: http://imgur.com/a/r3wKCSorry this post is so long! Any and all help would be much appreciated!

[Product Question] Looking for bed spreads and sheets that won't bleach from BP

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been trying to find a good comforter/bed spread for my bed in a color other than white (I'd personally like something I can get in red or black) thats not going to just be ruined by my acne medication. I saw that target has some sheets that are BP (benzol peroxide) resistant, but I'd like to find a bed spread too.I saw some items listed as fade resistant but wasn't sure if those would still bleach I've also noticed the majority of bleach resistant sheets are microfiber. Does microfiber not bleach and should I just look for a microfiber bed spread?Thank you for your help!

[MISC] Can someone more knowledgeable in skincare than I ELI5 why my skin can be perfect on my cheeks yet so horrible on my chin and forehead? Why doesn't acne affect my cheeks at all?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I can put any products on my cheeks and they don't break out. Anything. I've never (knock on wood) had even a zit anywhere on my cheeks. However, my skin on my chin and my forehead is just horrible. It's a hormonal mess and products can irritate it if I don't watch what I use, and the PIH lasts for weeks and is bright red.I don't even use BB or concealor on my cheeks, but cake my chin and forehead. Why does acne affect only certain areas of our faces? Wouldn't it affect it all? I just don't understand the distribution of acne and irritation. I'm at my wits end with my forehead and chin.Sorry if I sound dumb, and thanks.

[Personal]You know you've hit a low when you try to break out so your derm will take you seriously

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So, tomorrow I have my derm appt. I had one once years back, when my skin was pretty different, but now that I'm back on my 3rd month of this round of antibiotics (again), my skin is calming down and healing. Only thing is, I'm not that psyched because I KNOW when I get off again it'll just come creeping back again. Like always. AGAIN. Basically, my skin is not actually healed, it's just medicated and put on pause. I'm sick of this constant cycle of antibiotics, relative clarity, and then lo and behold, acne. It's not even bad, but it's changing and I actually got some deeper acne this time around, which was really fun to fret over. So my derm. She's gonna look at me, go "oh that's just some leftover redness and small stuff you're fine" and give me some topical. Now, I may be unreasonable, but perhaps someone here can share my dread of various medicated creams. They always sting, they always paint me red, and they usually make things worse. I've been traumatized by retinol, most likely, and this will explain my psychosis when it comes to that (I looked like I had horns emerging from my head). But I've just had it up to here with creams and antibiotics. I want accutane, damn it (low dose). I don't have bad acne at all, but I have constant acne. If I turn to the wrong angle, all you see are tiny bumps everywhere. And now my back is starting too. I'm afraid that my derm will say "well no cysts no accutane girlfrand", but damn it I want some permanency! Not this roller coaster ride I never asked for. So the last couple days I put shit on my face I know by now that my skin isn't friends with. I'm suspecting the Hada Labo acid lotion, the innisfree sunscreen, the missha essence. So I've been slathering it all on and giggling evilly to myself. Insane? Maybe. Stupid? Definitely. But let's just say this is what years of frustration and insecurity have led to. It's weirdly freeing trying to break out instead of weeping over every single CC, and ironically I feel like my skin is actually healing in some ways. I do have an added small/medium zit here and there (the sort that pop up when a product doesn't agree with you), but the red scars from my patch of disaster on my left cheek are looking....softer. In color and texture. Anyway, I wanted to rant about my craziness and wondered if there are other people out there who feel like their acne is bad and debilitating, but not deemed "bad enough" by others. All I can say is that while part of me is deeply horrified at my actions, another part is actually...not that upset. Sometimes it's fun messing up your own hard work, I guess?

I feel silly for asking this question - but I just splurged at Boots on a tube of La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo + (French version) and I'm not sure how to incorporate it into my routine. It has salicylic acid in it, so it's a chemical exfoliant, but their website also seems to suggest you use it is a lotion. So should I put it on after cleansing and wait a while before putting on lotion? Is it a lotion? Help me understand what I bought! :)I'm spot testing now and would love to try it out for real beginning next week. I have some stubborn acne-prone areas and dark marks I want to get rid of.

[Acne] Acne-ridden 20 year old male looking for a solution.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
As the title says, 20-year-old male looking for a solution to a constant and un-changing acne problem. I have been through countless routines and none seem to be working very well, if not making it worse at times. For some background, my acne increased in severity after high school. Whereas I only had the occasional spot before, my face is now covered. Cheeks, forehead, and the nose area are where it is worst.Nose consist of blackheads, on the sides closer to my cheeks it is very red acne. Around the same area (especially above the lips) whiteheads tend to pop up. Cheeks have pimples that don't really ever seem to come and fade. They are constant, I never notice any of them bursting. Forehead is similar, although cystic acne develops there often.I have a tendency towards dry skin. During the winter (I live in cold Canada) my skin dries out everywhere. Hands are the worst, but I contain it with lotion fine. I never moisturized my face until recently (shame on me, I know) after reading posts here. It takes care of the dry skin, but I'm not even sure if dry skin has to do with acne? After using a moisturizer that I think irritated my skin worse, I have switched to Cetaphil after reading here.Other factors I could think of would be I work at a bakery, so it is typically very humid. When the temperatures were at its hottest outside it would be extremely hot inside while working. Many airborne particles (flour primarily) floating around. My acne definitely worsened over the summer months. Whether that was a relevant factor or not I don't know, I'm not sure what my routine was at the time.Which brings me to my current routine:AM-Cleanse face with just water in the shower-Moisturize with cetaphil non-comedogenic lotion(again, I only started doing this recently, so if there are positive effects from it I may not have been experiencing yet)After work (usually 3-5PM, I always shower afterwords to clean off grime)-5% benzoyl peroxide cleanser-MoisturizeBefore I began to moisturize I would usually cleanse with water before bedtime as well. When I feel its necessary, I will do spot treatment with a salicylic acid treatment. My pillow case is changed every night, I only shampoo 2-3 times a week, and I avoid touching my face at all costs. I only need to shave once a week.Past routines that I attempted did not help. This included just sticking to plain ol water, using salicylic acid treatments for cleansers, amongst other weird desperation measures. What I would like to know is if my routine (considering all the background) will help. The benzoyl peroxide treatment on its own seemed to be doing okay, until seasons changed and my skin began to dry out. If anybody with a similar skin-type has a suggestion or tips or anything I would love to hear it. If you need to know anything else, please ask I would be glad to provide answers.I am still at the age where acne is seen a bit (I hit puberty a bit later if that counts?) so my confidence isn't affected on a daily basis. But sometimes during bad breakouts, I lose a bit of confidence and try anything to get rid of it. I would like to just get it down to a manageable level, I have my doubts that my skin will ever be completely cleared up.Thank you very much for reading.EDITHere's some pictures if it helps.http://imgur.com/a/chkZ9

[Misc] For those of you with skin problems OTHER than acne, has diet affected your skin?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been reading in some places that inflammatory skin disorders such as eczema, psoriasis, seb derm, rosacea, etc. could be caused by food intolerances/food insensitivities. I was wondering if anyone here had an experience like this, where their skin problems (whatever that may be, acne excluded) were solved by a change in diet?

[PSA] An important reminder to always Patch Test.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I bought a beauty oil from TJMaxx last weekend. I never patch tested before but I decided to do it with this product. I'm beyond thankful that I made that decision because now I have zits ON MY EYE LID! I patch tested on my left cheek and right eye area. Nothing happened to my cheek but wtf with eye lid pimples. I woke up this morning to a huge cluster of raised bumps on my right eye lid. This could have been so much worse.Even if your skin is resilient, always patch test new products. If you have a reaction, a small area is easier to treat than an entire face.

[Personal] Even just one big pimple affects how I interact with my SO. I hate it. :(

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm a somewhat anxious person but my anxieties really revolve around my physical appearance. I don't break out that much, but when I do, it's usually one big (cystic) zit on my cheek or something. Very red, very angry, noticeable, takes forever to go away. And whenever I do, I get SO ridiculously self conscious about it. I just got a big, painful cystic zit right next to my nose and I'm supposed to be seeing my somewhat-new boyfriend tomorrow. I'm super excited to hang out, but I keep stressing that he's going to notice my zit and be grossed out, or that I can't show him my makeup-free face. I don't want him to think I don't like him, because that's not why I'd be acting strange; it's just my own, irrational insecurities. I know no one's skin is perfect, but acne just affects me mentally so much. Ugh. Just wondering if anyone else here is the same way.

[Misc] I used to have itchy, bumpy legs and irritated underarm skin. Now I don't! I wanted to share what changes made a difference for me.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I didn't know exactly which tag to choose, so I picked Miscellaneous, although Before & After may have been correct.Hi SCA!I used to have painfully itchy legs. They were so itchy that they would keep me up at night, and I developed a ton of little red bumps. I have also always had very irritated underarm skin. I would get lots of clogged hair follicles, razor burn, and just generally inflamed skin.I have always been jealous of people who had smooth underarms and legs, who could wear tank tops and shorts without feeling self conscious. I finally decided to try and change the condition of my skin about 6 months ago. Here is my previous routine:Wash body with many different scented body washes.Shave with a Mach 3 razor using Barbasol shaving cream with aloe.Apply lotion to legs after shower.exfoliate 3 times a week with a DIY sugar scrub (brown sugar and coconut oil).Apply witch hazel to underarms after shaving. And here is my new routine!Wash body with Aveeno Skin Relief Body Wash.Shave legs and underarms with baby oil and disposable 3 blade razor (I change out the razor once a week. It's expensive but worth it for me).Apply fragrance free lotion (Cetaphil or Eucerine) to legs and body after shower.Exfoliate everyday with an exfoliating towel (I bought mine at Target but I know there are better ones out there).Apply Alcohol Free Stridex to underarms after every shower.DeetsI use VERY light pressure when shaving. I only use the weight of the razor, applying no extra pressure to the razor against my skin. I used to push the razor into my skin, I think that contributed to the irritation on my underarms.I think the baby oil made the biggest difference for me. As soon as I started shaving with it instead of shaving cream I saw a huge difference. Every other change just made additional fine-tuned improvements to my skin. I also make sure to take warm, not hot, showers. I think it helps keep my skin from drying out.I first bought Stridex for my face but it was a definite no-go. It was much too drying. I didnt want to waste it so I thought I'd try it out on my body instead! I started out only using the Stridex after I shave, instead of every day, and it didn't help all that much. Once I started using it everyday I began to see some serious results.I hope this helps some of you who suffer from super itchy legs and irritated underarms! I didn't take any before pictures ( I honestly didn't think anything would change!) but I do have some after pictures if anyone wants to see them.

[review] Eucerin Renewal = Most Underrated Product EVER? Urea AND lactic acid? Yes please!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
This has to be the most underrated product on the market. I have extremely dry flakey skin that Eucerin Original can't handle. For years, I rotated between Eucerin Intensive Repair (high urea content) that made me uncomfortably sticky and prescription 12% ammonium lactate lotion (AmLactin) that also left me feeling sticky and can't be used on the face. Then I found Eucerin Smoothing Repair. This stuff is amazing. It contains both urea AND lactic acid that provides sufficient moisture for Sent from my mobile device.Best of all, it absorbs extremely quickly, shaving minutes off my morning skincare routine. Eucerin Intensive is so thick that it doesn't provide enough lubrication when I'm trying to apply it quickly in the morning. And AmLactin type lotions are so thin that they require a lot of extra running for it to absorb into the skin. This is critical because I need lotion on my entire body. I wonder how the geniuses over at Eucerin were able to accomplish this. Which ingredient allows this lotion to absorb so quickly and readily without leaving a sticky uncomfortable layer?Does anyone else love this product as much as I do? I hope Eucerin never discontinues this product.

Upper arms look like a slapped ass. [Skin Concerns]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
This shit is so annoying, I have chicken skin and my upper arms constantly look like a slapped ass. I've almost completely gotten rid of the bumps through healthy diet and excercise. But the skin still looks red and shitty. I moisturize my arms daily with 20% glycerol cream, and have tried exfoliating every day, or every other day for a month with no results. For those still struggling with bumps on your arms. What I did was first taking Vitamin-D supplements, then reducing sugar intake by 70%, and I currently work out 6 times a week. If you live in a country with little sun, or you sit inside a lot, I strongly recommend increasing your vitamin-D consumption, as it made my skin smoother, and helped me stab depression in its' filthy face.

[Personal] When do you decide enough is enough?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I don't remember when I first started reading this sub, but it's been at least a year. In that time I've gone from NEVER washing my face to a gradually expanded routine that includes AHA, BHA, Vitamin C, sunscreen, moisturizer and cleansers. There's no doubt that my skin is in much better shape now than it was last fall. I'm 37 and am now experiencing very few breakouts, hugely improved skin texture, less discoloration, younger looking skin, and reduced SFs.But now when I look in the mirror I start to focus on more and more minor imperfections. For example, I'm noticing a lot of redness that probably has been there all along... I just didn't pay attention since I was concentrating on other issues. And I notice myself wondering if this redness is leftover from previous breakouts, or if maybe it's rosacea, and how can I fix it... But come on. Overall my skin is doing GREAT and I know it.How do you know when your skin is good enough? When do you say "that's just what skin looks like" and stop trying to fix everything?

[skin concerns][product question] Tried Nexcare Acne patch on possible cystic acne

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I previously posted that I have sensitive combination dry/oily skin and a big bump on my chin that I have until Nov 7th to get rid of it. I tired Origins Super Spot remover for two applications but that didn't seem to really do anything besides irritate the skin (dry, peeling, red and slightly more painful). I purchased Nexcare Acne patches because someone suggested I try a hydrocolloid bandage. I cleaned the area with hydrogen peroxide before putting one on last night. Woke up with a very dirty patch and a hole where the pustule was yesterday. Cleaned the area again with peroxide so nothing spreads. Now it looks like this. Do I try another one agin tonight? Switch to something else?

[Review] AWFUL reaction: Finacea and CeraVe PM for hormonal acne with sensitive skin. Long story & Photos

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I read /u/lyynnni 's review about Curology and wanted to put my review for what I've been up to, since I've been active in /r/Skincareaddiction recently talking about dimethicone and such.A little about me: I exercise 5 times a week, I eat with a diet that consists of vegetables, fruits, chicken and seafood. I rarely eat red meats. I'm lactose intolerant, so I don't drink milk or hardly consume dairy products. I like bland foods. I don't eat fried foods but maybe once a month, I don't drink soda ever, I'm trying to eat as clean and healthy as I can stand. I have sensitive skin, that's dry with a slight oily T zone, fair skinned, red hair. My usual skincare regime: Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser and Clinique Moisture Surge Intense, makeup features CoverGirl oil-free Ready Set Gorgeous concealer (I never wear foundation). I don't wear makeup a lot, and I wash my face every day. I take damn good care of it, since it's something I've been obsessing over for years. So about in September I started birth control (Loestrin) because I was going on vacation and I don't want a period or cramps or crap while I'm having days off. Seems simple enough, right? Well, about week 3 I got one cystic bump and FREAKED out. I probably freaked out more than I should (I freak out easily). So I immediately stopped taking it and saw a gyno, and we switched to Alesse (bam headaches) and then after 2 days I started Azurette. During this time, because of said cyst, I saw a dermatologist too. She kind of rushed me, but listened to me, I stated specifically: "I TRIED AZAELIC ACID and it didn't help," and she said, "Well, we'll try you on Finacea, it's the name brand. It's good." I stated several times how my skin is very sensitive. So I thought that would be okay. She gave me 6 sample boxes (holy samples!) and told me that Dimethicone was evil and I need something with hyaluronic acid.I went to CVS and found CeraVe PM moisturizing lotion, which has niacinamide and hyaluronic acids! Good stuff, right? I even read reviews on CeraVe as well as Finacea. There were MORE positive reviews than negatives, as with skincare it's very YMMV. I started using the products as directed (Finacea once a day, to not be too harsh, and CeraVe each day).Well. My skin started to hate me immediately. I researched what people state is purging. Purging? What's that? "Ohh...it gets WORSE before it gets BETTER! OK!" I have been using these products for almost a week; not a very long time at all. But I'm telling you, these new bumps are not "purging". These bumps (or at least the ones on my cheeks, I never break out there) are irritation bumps. My face itches and looks AWFUL. I have never had this bad of a skin state ever. I honestly don't know if I believe in this "purging" term anymore. I returned the moisturizer and I will not be using any more of the Finacea. If anyone would like to have some of the samples, please PM me as I don't want them to go to waste (I'm in TX). People said to give a product at least 3 months to see if it is working or if it's bad, but honestly if this is what happens in 1 week, I don't think I could survive 3 months. Especially because I don't see anything improving, only worsening in places and ways they shouldn't.Honestly, if your routine works, stay with it. I should have just toughened out the hormonal acne, because now I have to wait for these rashy bumps to go away. I feel irritable about it, because I try hard to make my skin look good. I even posted on here when I freaked out, I got one response: "if it freaks you out go see the doctor" but now I'm kind of afraid to. Ugh, my face itches. The photos are large and poorly cropped, I'm sorry. BEFORE and right cheek photos: https://i.imgur.com/QIWND35.jpg As you can see, tiny red bumps are just popping up daily. I never get bumps here, I knew it wasn't normal.Left cheek photos: https://i.imgur.com/N5z89Yb.jpg THIS is the worst area; over night I have seen red areas pop up. It's drastic and spastic, and I hate it. from 10/19 it was okay, then bam 10/22 I have a red bump show up; then 10/24 things calm down, but wait! 10/25 BAM huge red spot that itched SO bad.Chin photos: https://i.imgur.com/ZoYStce.jpg This is usually where I get bumps, which was the original intent of fixing...but I don't really know if it's fixing. It wasn't perfect to begin with, that's for sure.

[Routine Help] Late 20-something looking for routine for my Seborrheic Dermatitis & anti-aging concerns

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I am new. I have had a bare minimum skincare routine for the last few years. I am trying to be more intentional in my life regarding things like diet, skincare, makeup, etc. I am wanting to develop a more structured skin care routine & could use some advice. My top priority is that I have seborrheic dermatitis (SD) & I am really wanting an anti-aging regiment.26 yo/ female / fair skin / not sure of the skin type (oily T-zone but sometimes flaky from SD)Products I Currently Own *CeraVe Renewing SA Cleanser *Tazorac Cream 0.05% *Olay regenerist night resurfacing elixir *Up & Up version of Olay Regenerist Daily Regenerating Serum Fragrance Free *Equate version of Olay Sensitive Skin Wet Cleansing Cloths *La Roche-Posay Anthelios SX Daily Moisturizing Cream SPF 15 with Mexoryl SXI haven't really had any sort of structure to my routine. For example, most days I just use an equate cleansing cloth in the morning & that is it. Typically, I had been showering at night. So my night routine would be to use the CeraVe Cleanser & then either the Olay night elixir & that’s it. Or I would use the CeraVe & the Up&Up serum. Or I would just use the CeraVe cleanser & no moisturizer. I haven't regularly used the Tazorac. The times I did use it, though, I saw results immediately. I would wake up with flaky skin the next morning. So, it is really powerful! While I do own sunscreen (I think it hasn’t expired yet), I hardly ever wear it because I work from home & spend most of my time indoors. This probably should change because I do think I get some indirect light in my apartment & sometimes I go out to eat (so I might be in the car in sunlight or near sunset for 25 minutes maximum). Thus, even though it isn’t a lot, I know it is important for prevention.Seborrheic Dermatitis (SD) I was diagnosed with this condition in high school. At the time, the dermatologist recommended I use CeraVe products and gave me a steroid cream for my face (to put on like a spot treatment). He did tell me to only use the cream for 10 days because steroids aren’t meant to be used long-term on the face since they thin out the skin. This was one of the few times I had a larger area of my face with this rash. Generally my SD comes and goes on both my scalp & hair. I would guess it is considered really mild.I recently had an appointment at a different dermatologist office. It was very difficult to set up the appointment because my insurance, at that time, only had one dermatologist in my network (ironic to me because I currently live in a college town in Texas). When I called their office, they told me they had a 1 year waiting list. However, they also had a recent physician assistant hire, and were able to get me scheduled to see her (since the dermatologist had a long wait list). Since then, I changed insurance companies & saw that there were like maybe four total in my new network to choose from, but I had no idea there would be a shortage. I’m sure I had like 50 dentists to choose from in my area, but for some reason I guess there is a shortage in dermatologist. I saw there were some online dermatologists (PocketDerm & Cureology). I would be open to something like that in the future if it would be helpful.Anyways, I had multiples items I wanted to discuss. 1) I had some moles I wanted her to inspect. 2) My SD was bothersome on my scalp. 3) Anti-aging. While she was nice, I did feel very rushed and could tell she didn’t have much time to spend with me (hence the waiting list). She gave me a prescription for scalp treatment & a prescription for Tazorac. Here are some pictures I found that closely resemble my SD for reference. http://www.torontodermatologycentre.com/Seborrheic_dermatitis *First picture: I get the flakes in/around my eyebrows & on the side of my nose. *Second picture: I also sometimes break out along the hairline as well (although I would say mine is more mild than this picture)I have read through several posts as have consistently read that I need sunscreen (AM only), AHA/BHA (I think AM & PM), Vitamin C + E with Ferulic Acid (I think AM only), retinoid product (PM only), and Niacinamide (I think AM & PM). Can someone suggest a routine for me? I also just posted in the Makeupaddition reddit. I went to a beauty counter for the first time ever in my life and was given some new makeup products. One of the users there was very helpful and convinced me that I should focus on skincare for anti-aging primarily rather than makeup. I am still really new to all of this and working on making a spreadsheet. I understand that I should add one product at a time, but would be really interested in hearing suggestions. If possible, I would like to keep using some of the products I have rather than throwing them away and buying all new ones. However, from the ones I have, I actually don’t think the olay night elixir or the up & up serum are really doing anything. Of course, I have been really inconsistent with product usage so I’m sure that if I am more consistent going forward that I will see results.*edit: spelling & some added text
