[Product Question] Mad Hippie vitamin c serum vs Eminence Rosehip Triple C+E Firming Oil

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been seeing a lot on here bout the Mad Hippie and I have really been wanting to try it but during a spa visit i discovered the Eminence. The price difference is pretty big and I don't mind paying extra if the Eminence really is amazing but I don't know enough about either to make a good decision, was hoping someone could shed some light for me. Very much appreciated!

[Acne] Help!!! I stopped BC a month ago and have been breaking out around my chin really badly :(

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I stopped the pill a month ago and began breaking out this week really badly around my chin. I used to have acne before the pill (3 years ago) and it was under control starting BC.My diet has no triggers like dairy or sugar and I take good care of my skin. I have tried taking Evening Primrose Oil supplements to balance out my hormones and help my acne but it hasn't worked. What products do you recommend for hormonal acne around the chin area? I don't want it to get worse and worse :( I am currently using Sudocrem and Benzoyl Peroxide on the spots. The spots tend to be small cyst like bumps without a head. Thanks!!!

I've been realizing that my skin enjoys when I apply moisturizer in the morning before sunscreen. But I've noticed that my skin looks almost disco-ball shiny when I put moisturizer on, followed by my Elta MD sunscreen. It's not oil - it's just...shine. Does this happen to anyone else?

[Routine Help] App to track routine?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Do you guys use any app to track your routines? Something to remind (loud or silent reminder) you of changes in routine? E.g., use product X on Wednesday and Friday, use product Y, Z on the other days, at specific times. Progress pics support would be a bonus. Also, there could be a timer for things like chemical exfoliants. At the moment we have separate apps that can do these, but an all-in-one app would be nice.

[Acne] Most of my pimples are gone, but how can I get rid of whiteheads and scars/PIH?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Pics: https://imgur.com/a/4GrfcHey everyone! 16 year old female here. I used to have moderate acne, but after I started a new routine (and over time) it's gotten better. However I still have whiteheads on my forehead and chin, a few pimples, a few blackheads on my nose, and some scars/PIH. Here's my routine:AM: Wash with Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser Apply Paula's Choice 2% BHA liquid salicylic acid Let it dry then apply cerave moisturizing lotion across my whole face and cerave lotion in the tub to any particularly dry spotsPM is the same except I use "Bye Bye Blemish" 10% suffer drying treatment on a few pimples. I don't use sunscreen because I don't go outside that much in the winter (seriously like 20 minutes a day and it's always cloudy). I am planning on starting to use it once it gets sunnier. With my routine my skin is oily on my nose and forehead, but can be dry around my mouth.Any suggestions for my routine or in general? Thanks!

[ACNE] I have alot of acne and I just dont know what to do. I am so lost.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have alot of acne. Should I be as concerned as I am? Are they going to be a permanent scar? Is the acne cystic? I have went to the dermatologist in the past and they prescribed me many things but they just dont work. I have used differin, accutane, amoxicylln, epiduo and many others. I currently use Retin-a micro .04% at night and Clean & Clear 5% Benzyl peroxide once when I shower. My skin is very oily and can tolerate many products without flaking or any irritation. I used to use a Cetaphil moisturizer. Any recommendations?? [Product Question] Drunk Elephant TLC Glycolic Night Serum and Purging

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Has anyone out there tried the glycolic acid serum from Drunk Elephant? I've been using it for about two weeks now and am trying to discern if I'm going through a purging phase or just having a reaction. Since I started using the serum, I've gotten tiny whiteheads in places where I usually breakout, but they disappear after a day or two. It seems to be happening in waves (initially the whiteheads showed up near my mouth and now it's radiated out towards the periphery of my face). The skin where there are no pimples has definitely evened out in texture and tone. So I'm thinking this is just a purge? How long is a purging phase supposed to last?I've never believed in the whole worse-before-it-gets-better thing so I'm a little skeptical...

[Skin Concerns] What's wrong with my dry, flaky, congested skin? Is it a moisture barrier issue?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have extremely dry skin and extremely clogged pores. The driest areas seem to have the most clogged pores (mostly cheeks, jaw, forehead). I can slather on moisturizer and by morning still be bone dry on my cheeks. My skin is incredibly dull, congested, flaky, and awful. No products I use seem to have much effect, either good or bad. This has been going on for about a year and a half, with ups and downs that seem uncorrelated to anything.Routine (I patch tested all of these before incorporating and am pretty sure they aren't causing the clogging)AM:Hada labo gokujyun foaming cleanser with konjac spongeBenton aloe soothing gelHada labo hyaluronic acid gokujyun lotion moistVaseline (thin layer)Missha SPF 45 EssenceNYX BB creamPMMineral oil OCMHada labo gokujyun foaming cleanser (recently with konjac sponge)Benton aloe soothing gelHada labo hyaluronic acid gokujyun lotion moistVaseline (thick layer)Once a week I use Dr. Wu 18% mandelic acid to exfoliate, I have done this about 3 times so far (new product)I was on accutane as a teenager and spent years using benzoyl peroxide and harsh products. I am wondering if these somehow damaged my moisture barrier and my skin's ability to exfoliate itself, hence the peeling, and I think the dead skin buildup is clogging my pores.I have tried BHA, both Paula's Choice and Benton Aloe, both of which broke and dried me out badly, not in a purging way. I have tried cerave PM to repair the barrier but it broke me out too.I have seen a dermatologist and have been taking Spironolactone for a few weeks, though I hear it can take months to see results. I have been on birth control pills for years, and my skin doesn't seem to change based on my cycle, so I don't think it's hormonal. My goal here isn't really to get product suggestions, but to try and figure out what the underlying problem is so I can treat it effectively instead of blindly trying every product on the market. If you have any insight, I would really appreciate it!

[Acne] When will this disappear? (Pic Included)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello all.About 4 months ago I had this HUGE cyst on my cheek... A month ago I went to a dermatologist, and he squeezed it out and told me it would flatten out in a few days, and prescribed some antibiotics. Today I went to see him again to get this month's supply of antibiotics and he decided to do an injection on my cyst since it's not going away and it's just there bulging on my face.So I think he injected some form of antibiotics (not cortisone) three times to that same cyst, and now I'm wondering when it would flatten out??It's been 12 hours and it's bulging more than ever now, but it doesn't hurt or anything.Pic: http://imgur.com/UiUGrdr

I don't take BC, I haven't changed my diet, I don't take any meds, except Topamax which I've been on for 7 years. It literally never goes away. I have changed my foundations and moisturizers and often can't moisturize anymore because I feel like it might make it worse, but then the rest of my skin get's so dry. [Routine Help] When to insert Moisturizer and Sunscreen?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I want to include a moisturizer and a sunscreen into my morning routine. So far I have picked a moisturizer and a sunscreen I like and now I am just confused about when to insert them.Currently I use a deep cleansing oil, followed by cleanser, followed by benzoyl peroxide. I was thinking of adding the moisturizer after the BP, but I was wondering how long I should wait, whether it will conflict with the BP treatment, etc. Also would like to throw a light sunscreen in after the moisturizer. My skin is fairly oily and acne prone, so I want to be careful before inserting these products, since this current routine has been working quite well. But I do want to do even better so willing to test. Thanks for the help!

Seborrheic dermatitisI've been to a doctor, the medication they gave me and recommendations on what I should use have all failed. Now the seborrheic dermatitis is spreading to my scalp and I can't do anything about it since I'm unemployed. I've tried Witch Hazel, any type of lotion that moisturizes my skin, hydrocortizone cream 2.5%, 2%, and 1.5%, nothing is working. Even when I scrub my face, before I am able to apply my medicated cream it's already flaking all over the place. I wake up with a head that feels like thousands of ants are crawling around it on biting me everywhere, I'm stressed out.Is this caused by something? Neither of the doctors I got my medication from knew the cause of this dermititis. Is it something in my diet? I want the burning to stop.

[Acne] Things I learned from Curology (pocketderm)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I just signed up for Curology and am still waiting to get my prescription but I thought I'd share things that I have learned just from the initial encounter. 1) Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser contains sodium lauryl sulfate which is comedogenic and has shown to worsen acne in some people. 2) acne can be caused from fungus, as well as bacteria. All this time I've been using anti-bacterial products, which is completely ineffective against fungi. Maybe all of you skincare gurus already know this, but maybe this info will help at least 1 person!I have yet to see if the prescription will actually get rid of my acne, but I thought this was useful information nonetheless and wanted to share!

Got rid of some hair, issues with it growing back. [Hair Removal]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm a dude and I've never shaved anything but my face. I don't know the first thing about, well, anything really, when it comes to this kind of stuff. I recently shaved a small area around my navel for medical reasons, and now that the hair is growing back, it's like it's growing in sideways, under the skin. I can actually see it, but it won't come out. I was just going to sterilize a needle and pick them out, but I talked to a couple of female friends who both said don't do that. And they both said use an exfoliant on it and just wait. One of them recommended something called PFB Vanish, and the other one recommended some lotion. It started with an A. I should have written it down. I was curious if anybody might know what it might have been and if there's an opinion on one or both of those products.ETA: Hell, I guess I could ask her again. Let me text her.

[Acne] Is acne a problem of the current era?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So a little bit of back story, I was born in Colorado but my parents immigrated to the states from Bangladesh. As a teenager I had some mild to moderate acne. But I remember that my parents would freak out, like my mom was completely horrified by a few pimples. It made me super self conscious and I tried all the (horrible) acne products you could find at Target. Anyway when I was around 16 I literally had to sit my parents down and explain to them that acne is pretty normal for someone going through puberty. I finally understood why they reacted the way they did when I was growing up; they had literally never seen acne before they'd moved and assumed that it was something that only white people got. My mother went to a freaking all girl's school and she didn't know a single person who had acne (it was a catholic school so they weren't even allowed to wear makeup).I know its not a race thing because I see tons of teenage bengali kids with acne here. I've been trying to think of why my parents generation didn't experience acne and I just can't figure it out. I mean the girls used to put lemon juice and coconut oil on their faces everyday. Sunscreen didn't even exist in stores. Why did they have such perfect skin???? Has anyone else had this experience with their parents?Edit: I called my mom last night and her theory is that almost all of the food now a days is either genetically modified or injected with hormones (possible underlying reason why stopping dairy helps so many people?).

[Skin Concerns] My skin is the driest/most dehydrated skin ever

Beauty Tips For Body Care
My skin is really dehydrated. It is naturally dry and I haven't been moisturizing it (or doing anything) for the past few months because I haven't really cared that much.I honestly do not think my skin produces sebum or produces it in such tiny amounts that I never see it. If I touch blotting paper to my skin, nothing comes up. You know how people sometimes have an oily film on their phone after talking on it? I never have that.I'm trying to get it healed and I've had a weird problem. Even when I put a layer of oil on my skin, it soaks up and is bone dry just 1-2 hours later. This happens with every cream. Will this get better over time if I keep moisturizing?I feel like I get super dry overnight because the stuff all absorbs after a few hours and I'm still asleep. (I sleep only on my back, so I know it didn't rub off. It just gets absorbed.)The only thing that doesn't absorb is Vaseline but I hate the feeling of it so much.Any thoughts on my situation?Edit: I'm thinking about trying coconut oil.I do not break out from products, EVER, so I don't think I have to be worried about comedogenicity that much (but I will still patch testmaybe ).Thanks!

This is my first time posting here. My skin is pretty normal and sometimes a bit on the dry side. I use Cera Ve cleanser once a day (in the shower) and then I use the lotion after. I haven't mentioned this problem to a doctor as I highly doubt it's anything super severe.I've had this weird red spot on my face for years (since way before I switched from using Benzoyl Peroxide products to Cera Ve) and I'm not sure what it is or how to get rid of it. I've tried popping it like a zit once or twice but it doesn't do anything so I've just been leaving it alone. The redness is always there, and it's only a slightly raised bump. [Product Question] Might be a stupid question but - what is a moisturizer supposed to feel like on your skin? How do I know when I've found the right moisturizer?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Are you supposed to be able to feel the moisturizer on your skin all day? My moisturizer (FAB Ultra Hydrating) sits like a film on my skin all day long. I originally started using it upon recommendation from a friend that works at Sephora, to help with my bad acne and redness, and it does calm down my irritated skin a lot, better than anything else has. I used to be okay with it but now that I'm focused on reducing the appearance of my pores, I feel like it may be contributing to the problem. Is this accurate, is over-moisturizing a thing that can contribute to that? How do I know when I've found the right moisturizer and what is a good moisturizer supposed to feel like?

[acne] The Great Skin Rebellion - Do I need to go back to a barebones routine? [x-posted to r/AsianBeauty]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
THIS WILL BE LONG, BUT PLEASE TAKE PITY ON ME.Here's the deal - half of my face is in full on rebellion mode, and I don't know what to do anymore. For the past month, I've been having cluster breakouts on the bottom half of my face while the rest is at a personal best, so I'm hoping some of you eagle eyed folks can see something I haven't or recommend a new route.I have combination/oily skin that becomes much more oily in warmer months. Hormonal acne's a thing, but usually not more than 2-3 spots per month - usually cystic. I'm not new to skincare or actives, I patch test (most of the time), and I don't add new things at the same time. In 2016, I've added retinol (in Feb) and P50 (in Apr). A few other things too, but those are the big guns. And half of my skin looks amazing - like it's the best it's ever looked from the nose up. But for the past month, I keep having acne flair ups on my lower cheeks, chin, and upper lip (not usual breakout spots for me). My first thought was that it could be purging from P50, but half of them came before I started using it and the latest two popped up three weeks into P50 use.My routine (italics are products I've used for years with no problems):MORNINGTatcha Camellia Cleansing Oil (or one of other second cleansers - see evening)Pixi Glow TonicPC Skin Balancing Super Antioxidant Serum w/ Retinol (every other day when not using evening retinol)Glossier Soothing Face Mist or Goodal Waterest First EssenceOlay Anti-Aging Eye TreatmentAveeno Positively Radiant + SPFMizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream (In week one of use)Hada Labo UV Creamy Gel SPF50PA+++EVENINGTatcha Camellia Cleansing OilRotating between Aqua Glycolic Facial Cleanser (discontinued use when I started P50) and Acure Facial Cleansing GelBiologique Recherche Lotion P50VPC RESIST Intensive Wrinkle-Repair Retinol Serum (had built up to every other night... now using once a week)Glossier Soothing Face MistSkin Inc Serum (Hyaluronic Acid, CoQ10, French Pine Bark)Oil Blend (Jojoba, Argan, Rosehip)January Labs Moisture Balancing LotionMizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream (In week one of use)EXTRASDermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant (Discontinued use when I added P50)Origins Active Charcoal Mask (this was my HG mask - the past week, it's burned for the first time ever)Now about these spots. They're angry, painful, red, and they linger. And there are seven of them. Hormonally speaking, they've all popped up in my "clear skin" time of the month. Because there are so many at once, I've tried different things on them from hydrocolloid bandages, to spot treatment, to tea tree oil, to hot compresses, to babying the living daylights out of them with super gentle ingredients. I've washed my pillowcases frequently. I've quit sleeping with aquaphor on my lips (which I've done forever). I've laid off the lip color during the day (it only draws attention to that area of my face anyway). They've all done the same thing - painful and red cystic looking and then they start peeling and flaking no matter how much I hydrate them. Because I'm fair skinned, they leave red PIE marks that look awful. And more keep coming. They're unstoppable. My skin is suddenly sensitive feeling - it burns, it hurts, it gets red - this has never happened before. It's exhausting.I'm at the point where I'm thinking of stripping my whole routine down to two super gentle cleansers, a gentle moisturizer, and SPF. Then slowly adding products back in. Is this starting-from-scratch "detox" the best thing I can do for my spotty skin? Is this some weird purging that I just have to power through? I hate to lose the tolerance that I've built up to actives, and again, half of my face is looking its best ever, but if my skin needs a "reset," I'll do it.tl;dr - Half of my skin looks amazing. The other half is breaking out where outbreaks are unusual. Outbreaks are not coinciding with any major changes in routine. Should I strip down to a beginner's routine again, give my skin a break, and start from scratch?

[Product Question] How long can a moisturiser be kept for before 'going bad'?

I have a friend coming to visit from the US and plan to order a bunch of this moisturiser. I am planning on getting them to bring a years worth or more.Would this be unwise? If I recall correctly the bottle has a 6 month use-by, but would they be ok to use a year later if just sitting in cool storage?Any thoughts appreciated,Thank you.

[Acne] 22 and still have acne after over a year of dermatologist prescribed meds.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
My acne isn't usually horrible on my face. It's normally pretty clear except for if I do something stupid like go without a shower for a day and then I usually end up with these small little bumps all over my forehead that make it look like sandpaper for a couple weeks. My back is a lot worse. Same little bumps, but also loads of pustules and cysts that are painful and ugly which have left my back looking like a war zone even after the pimples themselves are gone. Occasionally get a few on my chest but it's usually pretty clear. Right now my routine for showering is exfoliate using a sponge/loofah, use a charcoal body wash, then a salicylic acid scrub and a 5% benzoyl peroxide wash. Outside of that I use a 10% benzoyl peroxide spot treament, clindamycin pledges, and I take a minocycline pill once a day. The clindamycin, benzoyl peroxide and minocylcine are all dermatologist recommended/prescribed treatments. Before the minocycline I was on doxycycline, and I was also on a product called onextin for a while, but that didn't seem to do much. The clearest my sin has ever been was when I was taking the doxycycline pill and using the clindamycin pledges. But I ran through the clyndamycin pledges faster than my prescription length and in the time in between that and getting a new prescription, my skin worsened and stayed that way. At my next appointment my doctor kept me on the doxycycline but switch the clindamycin pledges for Onextin. During that time my skin did not improve whatsoever. Next appointment after that I got back on clindamycin, but he switched me to minocylcine since the doxycycline pills didn't seem to be as effective as they once were. I don't think I'm using too many treatments, as my results have not really improved when using fewer products, and my dermatologist has sad that the minocylcine and cyndamycin don't treat the type of acne that makes my skin feel rough (the sandpapery bumps). I haven't been able to find a correlation with my diet either, as cutting out soda or dairy doesn't seem to effect how my skin looks.

For reference, the "normal" state of my skin for the past several months, and what I'm trying to get rid of:lots of CC's on foreheadsome smaller CC's on cheeks2-4 red pimples on cheeks/foreheadoccasional tiny whiteheads on my forehead/chinMy skin is naturally dry, but not dehydrated. Just lacking much natural oil.I first tried using a 5% mandelic acid, which made my skin worse than it's "normal" state (more CC's, more inflamed pimples), and extra dry, the whole month I used it. I cut back to using it 2x/week, and nothing improved. I suspected the SD alcohol might've been a problem for me.A month ago, I switched to a lactic acid, Silk Naturals 8% AHA toner. After a week or so, my skin seemed to be improving a lot, but this only lasted a few days, then my skin went back to it's "normal" state, where it's been since. I don't think it's irritating my skin, and I do notice my skin feeling a bit smoother, but it's just not fixing CC's or pimples.I'm looking at switching to either PC 8% AHA Gel or PC 2% BHA Liquid. My concern with the AHA is that it just won't work, as other AHA's haven't worked for me. But, I've never used a BHA, and I'm worried it might be too much for my slightly dry/sensitive skin.AM Routine:CeraVe Hydrating CleanserCerave Moisturizing LotionCerave in the tubMakeup w spfPM RoutineClinique Take the Day Off BalmCeraVe Hydrating CleanserSilk Naturals 8% AHA tonerMaracuja oil (eye area only)CeraVe Moisturizing LotionCeraVe in the tubVaseline if forehead is extra dry

[Product Question] With warm weather around the corner, what's the best way of repelling mosquitoes?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I did a quick search on on this sub, and the majority of threads are about how to deal with mosquito bites AFTER they've already been inflicted.Wearing cover-ups have not worked in the past for me because the mosquitoes bite through everything. Also, I'd like to wear dresses this summer. Some things I've seen mentioned:• Avons Skin So Soft body oil / Avon Skin So Soft spray, both sound really oily. I don't know if I'd put them on my face. And on the body, do I have to put it on after the sunscreen? Also, this comment had me confused, is he/she saying it worked or it didn't?• Mineral Oil• mint and citronella (but need to be applied very often)• BuzzAway (apparently less effective than OFF)• Hansaplast Anti Insect lotion (Europe)• Picaridin or IR3535I'm currently using OFF Deep Woods but I don't know if the synthetic ingredients are possible irritants? I also don't enjoy inhaling the thing (I hold my breath as much as I can!)I'd like to know which ingredients work, which to avoid, which format is best (i.e. spray, gel, lotion, etc). What can I use for my face? I think I want something super effective for my body, and I'm willing to compromise efficacy for something less irritant for my face. Also, do those repellent bracelets work?Someone mentioned stay away from Deet, but then someone else vouched in favor of it?Edit: Has anyone used Avon's Skin So Soft bug guard? it doesn't list the ingredients

[Product Question] Did Drunk Elephant Vit C make anyone else break out?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been using the Drunk Elephant Vitamin C serum for about a week now and got 1 larger breakout and 2 smaller ones but they went away pretty quickly. I've heard from a few people that their skin did something similar while "adjusting" to the Vit C but then stopped breaking out after a week or two. Did anyone else experience this?

[Acne] Crazy amount of CC's

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey guys I've recently gotten insane clusters of closed comedones on both of my cheeks and temples and it's taken a pretty huge toll on my self esteem since I go to school and everything. Here's what part of my skin looks like. The other cheek is pretty much the same, and my temples aren't as bad but similar. The lighting is pretty shitty, so it's not really capturing the extent of the bumps. Like if I run my finger across it it's like hella rough :(I used to have quite a bit of inflamed acne like a year ago which completely cleared up from using acne.org regimen BUT I really did not like how dull and dry my skin texture felt from it so I recently stopped using the crazy amount of BP the regimen suggests and I just spot treat.I'm not sure if the new acne flare ups are due to hormone changes??? or stopping BP. I've tried to ease back into the acne.org regimen but it has barely helped, plus I don't particularly want to because of the iffy skin texture. As for hormone changes... I've tried evening primrose oil and dat but it hasn't really made a difference. I ordered a bunch of Paula's choice products since I read the really good reviews on BHA, how it really helps with comedones, but I've been using it for a solid 2 weeks and nothing has really improved :( Maybe my routine's not right though. Here's my current routine: AM Wash with acne.org facewashPaula's Choice Toner RESIST2% CLEAR BHA Paula's ChoiceSpot treat with BPacne.org moisturiser (But I might switch to a Paula's Choice one soon, I've been patch testing recently)La Roche Posay sunscreenPMOCM off makeup with jojoba oilWash with acne.org facebookPaula's Choice Toner RESIST4% BHA Retexturising treatment from Paulas Choice (I've been counting on this to get rid of most of my comedones because of the claims on the site)Either acne.org moisturiser or 10% glycolic acid also from acne.orgCould I please get some advice? I'm not sure if I should continue with the Paula's Choice products, cos other than my problem areas, my skin is HELLA nice. Like freaking softttt. Or maybe I should go to the derm :( Which I went to before my previous acne phase, but the Doxy and Differen made my skin so shit and dry too.tl;dr: New phase of acne flare ups, this time more CC's. Tried Paula's Choice idk if I should continue or go to derm.Edit: Formatting lmao

[Routine Help] BHA at 20, retin-A at 21 - too much?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello, I'm a 20 year old Indian male and I have combination/oily skin that's somewhat acne prone. My skincare routine has been pretty basic ever since I started taking this stuff seriously at like 16 - just face wash and moisturiser - although I'm looking into getting the 2% BHA from Paula's Choice to help with the acne I get sometimes. I'm also interested in retin-A, but I know getting both BHA and retin-A, when I'm used to neither, would be a bit of an overkill, so I'm looking into getting the retin-A a year after regular BHA usage. The thing is... I have a few concerns. I've seen websites that dissuade brown-skinned people from using BHA (salicylic acid), but I don't understand the rationale behind it.I'm also not sure about getting started on a retin-A when I turn 21. I'm sure we've all heard horror stories, and while I'm in awe of its anti-ageing benefits, is 21 really the age for such potent skincare products? I live in a freezing high altitude desert in Northern India (Ladakh, elevation 4,000m+ MSL) and exposure to UV is so strong here that I'm not sure if the retin-A will even be a good idea. I wear sunscreen everyday, though. Thanks _^

[Skin Concerns] cyst turned into ulcerated wound with deep hole (pore) in it? What is this skin condition?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Going to an urgent care clinic tomorrow morning to get this checked out. Started as a deep cyst several weeks ago, and some pus drained yesterday. Today, I woke up with this monstrosity on my forehead. Pus has been leaking throughout the day and the lump will seem to nearly empty, but then refills itself within hours into a painful, growing hard lump. Pretty sure it's infected and expecting to get antibiotics tomorrow, but wanted to see if anyone here has had anything similar to help me with the cosmetic end of things. I expect this will probably scar and take ages to go away, so I'm looking for tips on that side of things. Thanks so muchhttp://i.imgur.com/EKvjJnu.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/Bv7TTdn.jpg

[Skin Concern] My Metrogel works in a very strange way, advice needed.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
About 10 weeks ago my derm prescribed me Metronizadole for my facial redness and bumps, so I guess I have mild Rosacea, but without a lot of flushing. My skin got worse from the moment I started using it, so I removed it from my routine after about a week because it wasn't bearable. Lo and behold my skin cleared up completely, no redness, no bumps, it looked amazing with just oil cleansing and moisturizing. Of course this didn't last because after a few days my skin got worse and went back to its state before metrogel. Started up metrogel again and this time for a period of 2 weeks. Same thing happened: skin got worse, when I quit metrogel it cleared up completely and then it returns to normal. Went through another phase of metrogel after that, 6 weeks this time. SAME thing happenend. Now I'm really just wondering what I'm supposed to do because I don't think this is how it's supposed to work, right? Here's my routine:AM: NothingPM: Oil cleanse with Hemp Seed Oil and a little Castor Oil Moisturize with Avene Skin Recoverytl; dr: Metrogel makes my skin worse, when I quit my skin clears up for a short period of time, then returns to bad

[Routine Help] Hada Labo Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Lotion! What should I layer it with? What is your favorite combo?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I finally ran out of my first ever HA moisturizer, it was pretty good, but the price isn't worth the small amount I get. The problem is that I've learned that my skin looooves HA. So I am finally breaking down and buying the Hada Labo Gokujyn HA lotion (the "moist" one?) and I know that it's intended to be layered with something to kind of keep it locked in. I was wondering what other Hada Labo HA Lotion users layer on top of theirs? I am so excited to have deliciously hydrated skin, I can't wait!So let me know! What is your favorite product combo with your Hada Labo products? I haven't purchased anything yet, so I am suuuuper open to suggestions for helping my dry, acne prone skin that is desperately missing HA products.

[Skin Concerns] Dark circles have gotten more prominent, now there's dry skin under my eyes. What can I do?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
This is probably more of a medical concern, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask here. Recently, about a month ago or two ago, my dark circles have gotten more prominent and started showing more (which I'm fine with), but now in the surrounding area of my eyes, there's some dead and peeling skin. Do you guys happen to know what it is?The dark circles, I'm fine with, because it doesn't bother me, but the dead skin does concern me. If needed, I may be able to provide pictures. Please help. If theres a product that may be able to help me, I'd gladly take any recommendations.

[Personal] [Acne] Just need some encouragement, please.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey guys, newbie here. I guess I'm just depressed and could use a little emotional help. Today is the sixth day of using Epiduo and the fourth day of using clindamycin. I know it is early on and this regimen works because I used it before (and I was silly enough to stop keeping up with it after my skin mostly cleared up), so I'm trying to stay motivated. But some days are just so hard to deal with and all I want to do is cry and hide from the world. Going to work is hard because I am not wearing makeup, as I'm sure it contributed to the awful break out I had last month. This is so hard because I seriously work with people, face-to-face, all day. My face is better than last week, but it is so red, sensitive, and it's peeling. I drink lots of water throughout the day, slather on the sunscreen and Cetaphil moisturizer, which helps a lot. I also run everyday (LOTS of sunscreen) and that boosts my mood a bit. Iunno... it's really the insecurity and feelings of inadequacy I'm dealing with. I feel like I don't look professional and I'm tired of avoiding certain lighting situations. I'm just so emotionally exhausted by acne. Any positive words would be helpful!

[Misc] Wait a minute, I actually have pretty okay skin?! I've been ruining it for so long!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
My entire life, I've thought that I had seriously problematic skin--blackheads, cystic stuff, redness all around my nose, dryness, you name it. When basically, the only issue is that I am a chronic picker! I have a terrible habit of looking for and squeezing blackheads (most of them imaginary), but I had no idea HOW MUCH DAMAGE I was doing to my skin...After finding this sub last week, I made a promise to myself that I would just try easing into the beginner routine and see what happened. I ditched my nightly apricot scrub (::ugh::), switched to using my gentler morning cleanser in the evening (just cleanse with water in the morning now), added in some AHA every other day, and kept my moisturizer the same. Holy shit, after almost a week it's like I have a whole new face! I can't believe I have spent over a decade with this chronically dehydrated, red/scabby skin when it was entirely in my power to make it go away. It's like when I was squeezing stuff on my face (ew, sorry), in my mind, my goal was always to make my skin better--it's not at the level of compulsion for me, just a terrible habit. Once I decided to channel all that energy into making my skin better by actually taking care of it, everything fell into place so fast. Has this been the case for anyone else?

[Hair Removal] Have you found an (almost) permanent at home hair removal tool?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I want laser hair removal, but the truth is I will probably never end up wanting to book an appointment and go somewhere for it.I know there's a few at home hair removal products out there, and I have the patience and time to try them! Not a ton of money though... I'm willing to spend a few hundred but only if it actually works.Over 5 years ago I tried the Tria Laser, which has a lot of good reviews, but I just didn't get the results I wanted. I don't know if I rushed too much or what, but I really tried (I literally made an excel spreadsheet to track everything) and don't see a difference. I have light skin/dark hair so I fit the profile.I'm going to charge up the Tria laser to test again, but I also saw something called the Silk'n Flash n' Go.Have you tried any at home laser removal products that work? Or give me some advice?Thank you!

My 20 yr old girlfriend has had severe acne ever since going vegan over a year ago, I am not sure if it is the cause or just a correlation but I need advice. [Acne]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi I am a dude who doesn't have a skincare addiction. My girlfriend does however, because she has had severe acne for over a year. She just so happens to have gone full vegan around the same time, which leads me to believe that they must be related. Now listen I have nothing wrong with veganism, I don't eat much meat myself, and when I do it is cruelty free poultry, or sustainable seafood. I just have a feeling that her not eating any type of meat or dairy must be having an effect on her hormones, or something, which is causing her acne. A year ago her face was as clear as a baby's. She has gotten very very self conscious since getting this acne, and barely leaves the house now, and has had multiple emotional breakdowns. The acne seems to be classic hormonal acne, mostly on her cheeks, nose, lips, and chin. None on her forehead, chin, jaw, neck, etc. She tries to eat a well balanced vegan diet, and supplements with B12 and iron. She has tried all sorts of natural and un natural vegan skin care products and oils to try to get rid of this acne and nothing works. I have tried to convince her to incorporate eggs or dairy or seafood into her JUST to see if it helps her acne, but she is determined to be vegan. I have also tried to get her to see a dermatologist and maybe have blood tests done to see if shes lacking any specific nutrients or if she has a hormonal imbalance, but shes afraid of getting her blood drawn....... So I am here on this subreddit using a throwaway account asking for advice. Does anyone have any ideas?

[Acne] I got a lot of Pustules on my cheeks and chin areas and rashes on my neck after using Cetaphil. (More info inside)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Skin type: Dry, with oily nose and forehead (or sweaty forehead).Current routine: AM - wash face with cool water, Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, wash with 5-month old facial pad, pat with dry towel. PM - wash face with cool water, Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion for all body types, petroleum jelly.Been using Celeteque's cleanser and moisturizing gel before switching to Cetaphil (I patched test for a week!). Cetaphil worked wonders on me.Eventually, my eczema started to slowly come back on my 1st and 2nd right hand, and I developed some very irritating rashes on my neck which caused me to have a hard time trying to sleep. I applied Johnson's baby lotion on it to soothe Tue pain (it failed). Then my face started getting bumpy (prob from pustules?) whenever I do my routine. Then the pustules (they're the white pimples, yeah?) started appearing. It's painless but there's so much coming out!I re-used whatever was left of my Celeteque product but it became extremely drying and tight on my face so I stopped and went back to Cetaphil.A few hours ago I went to the rooftop where I live to jam with friends, and whenI came back to my place check on my face, the fucking pustules got a lot more than when I last saw them! I lost my shit and stressed out because I'm at a loss of what to do.TL:DR - pustules started coming out like crazy, days after using Cetaphil and getting back eczema on fingers. What to do, SCA? I'm also 20 years old, male.

[Research] Green Tea Shown to improve skin quality in women.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Green tea polyphenols provide photoprotection, increase microcirculation, and modulate skin properties of women. probably works for dudes too but it was an all women test group so that cant be said for surehttp://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21525260Animal and in-vitro studies indicate that green tea polyphenols affect skin properties. In a 12-wk, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, 60 female volunteersParticipants consumed either a beverage with green tea polyphenols providing 1402 mg total catechins/d or a control beverage. Skin photoprotection, structure, and function were measured at baseline (wk 0), wk 6, and wk 12.green tea polyphenols delivered in a beverage were shown to protect skin against harmful UV radiation and helped to improve overall skin quality of women.Noticed whenever I regularly drank green tea my skin seemed to be much more clear after a week, acne specifically being my issue. Checked the research, turns out its proven. Only one study done on humans but its very promising and animal/in-vitro studies point to the same conclusion. Drinking green tea is a simple daily routine to add to your life to improve your skin quality.

[Acne] Simple Science-y Explanations of Acne Types (nodules, comedones etc)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
First post on here- have noticed some confusion over identifying types of acne and so thought I'd post this in the hopes of maybe helping :-)Comedone Small elevations on the skin surface caused by occlusion of the follicle by sebum and keratin. Comedones can be open or closed and are the primary form of non-inflammatory acne.Open Comedone Commonly called blackheads. A “plug” of melaninised keratin blocks the opening of the follicle.Closed Comedone Commonly called whiteheads. Occur when the follicle becomes completely blocked.Papule A solid elevation of skin with no visible fluid, usually < 5 mm and usually erythematous (meaning red/inflamed) (in acne).Pustule An elevation of skin which contains cloudy or purulent material consisting of necrotic cells and neutrophils.Nodule A firm dome-shaped elevation, > 5 mm in diameter, usually erythematous and painful.Acne cyst A fluctuant lesion > 5 mm in diameter, which may or may not be inflamed.

[Misc] I pH tested store bought and homemade Vitamin C serums and the results were interesting. Test your products!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
This was an Adderall fueled post. I’m about to nerd out big-time here. Scroll down for TL;DR!First, why do I care about vitamin c? I recently decided to add a vitamin C serum to my skincare routine because of all the great effects I’ve read about. Really, it seems as skincare ingredients go, vitamin C is amazeballs, and I’m not talking anectodtal “OMG it made my skin feel so much better” shit, I’m talking legit scientific research showing several skin benefits. It’s a fucking fabulous antioxidant, it is photoprotective against UVA and UVB stress, it is an essential ingredient for collagen synthesis AND upregulates (causes) collagen synthesis, and it is effective at preventing and lightening dark spots through inhibiting the enzyme Tyrosinase, which is the rate limiting enzyme for melanine production1,2 . AND, do you like Vitamin E? Because Vitamin C regenerates oxidized vitamin E molecules so your body can use them all over again3 !We’ve known the much of the details of the dermatic glories of Vitamin C for over fifteen years. Clearly, we all want lots of vitamin C. Some of this can be provided in our diets, but gastric absorption of vitamin C is downregulated by the levels of vitamin C already in your body, which means most of that supplement you have been taking just gets peed out (but I’m sure the fish appreciate it). So, in order to elevate the levels of vitamin C in our skin, it needs to be applied topically. Problem is, Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is a tricky motherfucker. It’s SO effective because it’s so reactive as an antioxidant, which means it’s got major stability issues. It oxidizes REAL quick in solution, and this oxidation rate increases along with temperature, air, and light exposure. My guess is this is why vitamin C only recently surged in popularity as an ingredient in skincare products; manufacturers are certainly getting better at formulating (for instance, adding Ferulic acid to stabilize vitamins C and E4 ), manufacturing and packaging products in a way that maintains their effective shelf life. The problem is, not every manufacturer is actually going to spend the time and money to ensure quality, and many companies may just ride the Vitamin C bandwagon without considering these things or caring if it is actually effective in their product. Why am I concerned about pH? Problem number two with vitamin C products is their pH. We’ve heard time and time again that it is important for the pH of skincare products to remain low to ensure efficacy. A quick Google Scholar search brought up an article on the effects of pH on Vitamin C absorption in particular5 . The researchers showed that in a solution of a pH 4 or above there was no detectable increase in skin vitamin C levels (it wasn’t absorbed), while vitamin C levels are elevated at a pH of 3.5 and increase as pH lowers. This same study also showed that the best concentration for maximum vitamin C levels is 20% (for some reason there is a decrease in vitamin C at higher percentages) and that even though it is the least stable, L-ascorbic acid is the best ascorbic acid derivative to use.Choosing a Vitamin C Product Given all of this fantastic information, I am convinced that pH is a critical factor for an effective vitamin C product. Unfortunately, as a poor graduate student, my choices in skin care products are financially limited. Given that I have science, I decided to also try making my own. I purchased some vitamin C L-ascorbic acid crystals from the Vitamin shoppe and ground them into a fine powder using a mortar and pestle. I then used a digital scale to measure out the powder and, using deionized water and glycerol, made a 20% weight by volume solution of L-ascorbic acid serum. I actually really like how it turned out. I used this first and saw visible improvement in the redness of my skin after a week or two.Still, I wanted to try something “real.” Much as I’d love to, I can’t usually spring for the expensive, already researched and well reviewed products, and so I searched Amazon for a cheap alternative. I settled on ArtNaturals Enhanced Vitamin C Serum because it was under $15, claimed to contain 20% Vitamin C, and had many positive reviews (4 out of 5 stars from over 9000 reviews). The first problem I noticed with this serum was in the ingredients list – it does not contain the L-ascorbic acid form of vitamin C, but instead what is reportedly an aqueously more stable, while less studied form called Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate. I didn’t sweat this too much, because it wasn’t tested in the earlier study5 I mentioned, and a more recent paper reported good absorption levels6 . I wasn’t impressed. It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t seem any better than the serum I made. It was actually a bit sticky, comparatively, and my skin didn’t tingle like it does with my DIY serum. I decided to test the pH of both serums, and WOAH.Testing the pH – RESULTS! First, let me show you how the pH test strips I used work using vinegar and water as examples/controls. The strips are wetted in the solution for 1-2 minutes then compared to the swatch which shows pHs from 0-14 at 0.5 intervals. There are 8 dyes that are affected, and the closest swatch match is used. This example shows, from left to right, vinegar, vegetable glycerin (glycerol), bottled purified water (Dasani), and city tap water. As expected, vinegar was the most acidic, but it fell in at around 1.5-2. That’s actually more acidic than you’d expect from white vinegar (~2.5 pH). Glycerol and bottled water checked in around 6.0 again, a bit lower than expected, and my tap water was ~7.0. I didn’t have any buffer to check these strips with (I’ll test them tomorrow in my lab), but it looks like might be showing acidity a little low. If so, it looks like it might need about a +1 correction term, but because pH is a logarithmic scale I can’t be sure. Anyway, we can at least move forward and see our pHs relative to vinegar and water!Next, I tested my homemade 20% L-ascorbic acid serum. It is about 3-4 weeks old, and is stored in a dark glass dropper bottle (an old Korres serum bottle). I was shocked to see it falling in at a pH of 1.5, right where the vinegar was. If it IS 1.5, that is stupidly acidic, not to mention virtually impossible to achieve. L-Ascorbic Acid is a diprotic acid with pKas of 4.17 for the first proton dissociation, and 11.57 for the second. This means, given the maximum saturation concentration in water of 33%, I’d only get a pH of 1.87, which would look closer to 2. Visually, its similar to the vinegar, so my guess is it’s a pH of 2.5. I’m actually pretty happy with that. I’d almost call it too acidic, but my skin is responding well to it, so I’m content. Now for the shit I bought off of amazon! Are you prepared to be impressed! Well, sorry to disappoint you, but this shit was basic.. Okay, not very basic, but around or above neutral. Visually, I’d call it 7.5-8. Even if my strips are showing things as a bit lower in pH, it’s more basic than the water I used as a control, and not anywhere CLOSE to the necessary effective pH of <3.5. This stuff is absolute shit.I will concede that this isn’t the same type of vitamin C used to determine pH/absorption profiles. However, the skin has a pH of around 5 and generally a lower pH is considered necessary to maintain effectiveness and to be absorbed into the skin, as shown in studies for other nutrients7 . I'm probably going to keep making my own serum. I may actually buffer it up to a pH of 3 with some sodium hydroxide once I measure it with a calibrated pH probe in my lab (tomorrow). My curiosity also lead me to test a few of other products that I use regularly.*Alpha Hydrox 12% AHA Soufflé (glycolic acid): pH 4.0-4.5*CeraVe Renewing Salasylic Acid Cleanser: pH 4.5*Retin-A Micro 0.08% Pump: pH 4.5*Dermapeutics Kyaluronic Lift Serum: pH4.0-4.5I hope you found this somewhat interesting. I certainly did, which is why I just spent 2 hours testing and writing about it! It’s probably not a bad idea for everyone to test their products for pH – test strips are relatively cheap, and it’s easy to do at home and important information to have!SOURCES CITED:Pinnell, S. R. [Product Question] Helen Mint Julip Mask (and I assume other clay masks)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Whenever I use a clay mask (I've noticed this mostly with the Mint Julip Mask) there are always spots that look like the mask has sunk into the larger pores. What is actually going on here? I have heard some reviewers say "that is how you know it is working" but that doesn't really tell me anything about the actual process of what is happening. I've heard some reviewers say it is getting "deep down into the pore," but I thought clay masks were more about pulling stuff out of the pore. And, what should I do about it? I usually notice them appearing before I'm done fully applying the mask. Should I put another layer on top of those spots? Am I applying the mask wrong (I just try and put an even layer all over). As always, thanks for your help SCA

[Skin Concerns] Spilled TCA 100% on my skin. Link me to information on how to save my skin?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Long story short, I spilled a small amount on my skin and it immediately frosted over. I quickly wiped it off with water but the white frost stayed of course and turned a dark color and I just need to know if that's normal, part of the process or what. It doesn't hurt, just slightly uncomfortable to the touch.I don't need a lecture about TCA 100%, (I know, it's dangerous, never do it yourself, etc) I beg you please just provide me with information, as I simply cannot find any credible info ANYWHERE online. In the morning, I clean it with isopropil alcohol, then put triple anti-ointment cream on it and cover it with a band aid. Does TCA 100% burn NO MATTER WHAT or could it just be part of the scarring phase? Should I put something else on it to help?I can't seem to find any information about what happens if it's spilled in your skin ANYWHERE online. For something so dangerous, you'd think someone would have step-by-step instructions SOMEWHERE. How do I know if it's hyperpigmitation or just part of the healing process? Where can I find in-depth info and step-by-step info on TCA that covers the post-usage portion?Thank you in advance.

[Acne] Do people actually care if you have bad skin?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey, so I've always been ashamed to go to school with my terrible skin, mostly because I think people will make fun of me or think I'm gross. My skin is not that bad, I just always pick at it so I'm left with these scabs that are healing but look kinda gross, to me at least. I was just wondering: do people actually care if you have bad skin? I'm sure they notice but do they actually care?PS : Sorry if this is not the place to post these kind of things, I am not sure where else I could post this.

I was confident in this purchase at first, because mass beauty is eligible for prime shipping, which I've heard typically means they are "approved" by Amazon. However, a few reviews claim this product is fake. I really don't want to use a fake product, and it hasn't arrived yet. But I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with this reseller? [Routine Help] I'm not sure I'm doing this right

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm [F/35] a total newbie to skin care.. other than washing my face in the shower with a black head scrub.. I didn't really do much. I don't wear makeup daily. I've always used a face lotion with spf (usually aveeno tinted moisturizer). Right now I'm using up my Equate knock off of Olays 15spf daily moisturizer. I still break out around my period (hormonal?) and my nose and forehead are usually oily and my cheeks are dry. This made me think I'm a combination skin. I recently bought CeraVe foaming face wash for normal/oily skin and have been washing my face morning and night. I started this routine Sunday morning. I did use a spot treatment on my two pimples on my chin on Monday - but not since (clearisil spot treatment). This morning after I washed my face, my cheeks and chin were tight and actually flakey - even after I used the equate moisturizer. Is the face wash not right for me? Do I need products for dry skin? Is my face dehydrated? I drink 100 - 140oz water a day. I really like the gentleness of the CeraVe.. and it's only been a few days.. but this dry skin is new... please help! TL;DR - face is tight/flakey after starting new routine

[Routine Help] [personal] I've never had a basic skin routine (hygiene), I need help

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello SCA,I'm not quite sure if this topic fits in here but I thought this was closest I could get. I wrote a text yesterday and deleted it because felt ashamed but I really do need some help. In case another subreddit would be more appropriate please let me know.As the title says I've never had a basic skin routine at all. I haven't learnt in my parental home and having severe depression for years now made me forget to stick to a skin routine. It has come to the point where basic hygiene habits are none existent for me and I did not care about it at all. I really want to change that because it seems like that could improve my quality of living enormously. Thanks to SCA I have a lot of resources for facial skin but my concern is general hygiene.I think I have no serious skin issues (except from some face acne but I can live with that).Questions that come to my mind: how often do I need to shower? If I don't shower everyday should I at least do a quick wash at the sink? Wash e. g. armpits and genitalia every day or twice a day?How do I know I smell? How do I really clean my body? Exfoliation, body lotion? Different parts of the body, different ways of cleaning? Do I need to use a disinfectant for my hands when I'm outside?I have lots of 'dirt' on my body, there some darker patches that become lighter when I scratch them. Also I think I have lots of dead skin cells all over my body. How to I get rid of that? Not sure if it fits to the skin topic but how often do I need to wash my clothes? I'm usually inside only but I want to have fresh clothes I also could wear outside. That basically is what came to my mind. I have no idea where to start or if I forgot anything really important. The Biore stuff is better than most things, but still gives me more little bumps that don't go away unless I extract them :(My routine: Water in the mornings, Cerave lotion. Wash with Paula's Choice Resist optimal results cleanser in the evening, then c15 serum and Resist barrier repair cream at night. Every few days I use a Stridex max pad on my face, wait a few min, then rinse off.Known irritants for me are coconut oil, mineral oil, every single toner I've ever tried (even alcohol free), something that's in a lot of hair conditioners but I've never pinned it down. Please help me, I don't look that good in giant hats.

[Acne] Use of Argan oil as a moisturizer resulting in inflammatory acne for me. Why does it work for so many people, but not for me? Does this mean I just can't do oils? Is there an oil that is really as noncomedogenic as people claim? Suggestions and input appreciated.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Greetings, this is my first post on here. I hope it's okay.Skin Type:My skin type is combo, but much more on the dry/dehydrated side. In fact, any oiliness I struggle from might be due to the dryness. I live in Colorado and there's little humidity. I also have hypothyroidism, hypercortisolism, and a plethora of other health problems that contribute to my skin being excessively dry at times and sensitive. I occasionally have flare ups of seborrheic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis and eczema around my nasolabial folds, laugh lines, mouth, hairline, and chin/jaw. I also struggle with mild acne. I normally have 1-5 small papules on my face at a time. My pores are small and I don't have many blackheads.Night routine:Neutrogena Acne Wash (the orange kind) or Cerave foaming face washRetin-A and clindamycinCerave face lotion or Vaseline, occasionally some aloe vera gel mixed incoconut oil on my eyelids, lips and lashesMorning:witch hazel tonerTrader Joe's moisturizer with SPF or Cerave with SPFSo the problem began when I decided to buy a Josie Maran beginner kit from Sephora with some of her signature products. I know her Argan oil is overpriced, but for all the products it was a good deal, and I had a giftcard. I wanted to try Argan oil since I had heard so many gushing about it for all types of skin, including that it can help acne and very dry skin alike.I was nothing but optimistic and actually didn't consider whatsoever that it would cause me problems. In fact, all I read was that it was "noncomedogenic" and "perfect for all skin types." I know this isn't true for any product, but I expected myself to be another success. I read all about how for the most sensitive skin it did wonders, so I wasn't worried.I didn't change anything in my routine except putting on the Argan oil at night instead of my other moisturizers. The first day, I felt my skin was softer and glowier than usual. The second day, I felt the same way. The third day, I woke up with 4 under the skin inflammatory papules. The kind that don't have pus or visible sebum in them, just deep painful zits. This is completely unusual for me so I was pretty sure who the culprit was. I stopped using the Argan oil, and my skin went back to normal in a few days. From what I read it seemed like it would be the magical missing component for my skin.I know my current skin care routine works, but it's not giving me amazing results. Maybe that's just my skin, but I like to think it could potentially be better than it is. That's why I was looking into trying an oil, and Argan oil was supposed to not cause breakouts. I also looked into whether it has a purge period but it's not supposed to. I don't want to give up on it completely, but I think for some reason my skin finds it inflammatory. I looked into why this might be and the only possibility I found was that it might be because Argan oil has a moderate level of Oleic acid but not particularly high level of Linoleic acid. From what I read, there is evidence that Oleic acid can cause inflammatory acne in some people. However, if this is the case, why don't more people break out from Argan Oil? I really wanted it to work for me and while my skin is sensitive, it's not the type of skin that breaks out from a product.QUESTIONS:1) I wonder if just adding a tiny bit to my lotion as a carrier would let me receive some of the benefits without the inflammatory acne. Would using oil mixed in with aloe, vaseline, or cerave lotion maybe make it better on my skin given what I've suggested?2) Has anyone personally had a good experience with a low Oleic-acid oil and would suggest one? I'm thinking maybe I'll have better results with an oil with higher levels of Linoleic acid, but since there are a quite few of these, I don't know which to really try. (I have read good things about Evening Primrose from some sources)3) If Oleic acid is the culprit for my breakout, why can so many people with sensitive skin and acne use Argan oil with no issue? How does it work to clear up their acne? Is Oleic acid something that just certain people are sensitive to?4.) Similar question to #2 & 3, but is there anyone who has personally experienced breakouts from Argan oil but used/uses a different natural oil that helps their skin?I'm a little daunted by the idea that something as highly recommended as Argan oil could cause me to breakout. I know I should have patch tested, and I will try this next time I use something new. Oils have been the latest fad, and I admit I was captured onto the hype. The reason why I wanted to find an oil was because of the affordability and natural aspect, as well as all the anti aging and moisturizing benefits. I think the right oil might help my skin stay refreshed and hydrated.Thank you for any help or suggestions and apologies for the long post!

[Skin Concerns] Please help identify these red marks in my elbow creases and tell me how to cure it

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have had this for a few months and I have tried Cortisone 10, Lotrimin, Apple Cider Vinegar, Aloe Vera Gel, Shea Butter, and prolonged ice treatment, and none of these treatments have worked.https://sli.mg/aoNN1r https://sli.mg/PIoITb https://sli.mg/24aNMvEDIT: Not sure if this info is helpful, but I am an 18 yr. old male who has moderate acne on face and shoulders, and I live in Florida. I also exercise 4-6 times per week and tend to sweat profusely as I am working out in 80-95 degree heat.

Looking for advice before I begin a routine. I'd like to remove the sebaceous filaments in the crease of my nose, behind the nostrils. Should I use mineral oil for this or is there a better way?

[Miscellaneous] I had a horrible appointment with a derm today who really pushed medications that I'm not comfortable taking due to a chronic illness and the appointment ended with me in tears. I need to vent and get some advice.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
For some background I have MCAS, or mast cell activation syndrome. Basically my mast cells, the white blood cells that are responsible for releasing histamine in your body, and overreactive and constantly release too much histamine. This causes me to have many symptoms after eating, taking most meds, exercising, stress, exposure to extreme temps, and sometimes for no reason that range from unpleasant to dangerous including swelling of my cheeks, eyes, tongue, and throat, flushing of skin, dizziness, headahces, hives, stomach issues, itching, asthma attacks...and horrible pustules and cysts all over my cheeks and jawline that itch and hurt. These cysts and pustules increase when I eat some of my "trigger foods" such as higher histamine foods. I'm on lots of antihistamines, mast cell stabilizers, and have started xolair shots to treat many of my symptoms. My specialist suggested going to derm for the acne.So today I went to the dermatologist and they pushed isotrenionin hard. With my immune system and its reactions, I'm terrified of this stuff. I've been told I would need to use condoms in addition to my iud (I react to all condoms I've tried, even non-latex) which I don't think I can do. I also have a history of depression, but my derm dismissed these concerns saying "he never sees that happen". He went on to say that "no one has allergic reactions to Accutane" and that "he's never seen anyone get hives or anything" with it. But my throat tries to close with benadryl so I'm not a typical patient. He explained more of the side effects stating that you get extreme sun sensitivity. Well I already get hives from the sun! I cannot handle more sun sensitivity. The dry skin side effects are a problem too, as most lotions irritate the hell outta my skin. When I brought up these concerns I was basically dismissed and told to call my mast cell specialist to double check I would be okay on Accutane. I was also given spironolactane as an option but that wasn't explained well. I was handed a paper on that to read but ive been too upset to try. I just feel so disheartened. I know my chronic illness complicates things and this term was probably doing his best, but I still feel like shit.Is this normal? Do derms do this when a patient has a complicating illness? And what are some other options for potenitally allergic acne and pustules/cysts? I just feel so lost.Tldr; I have an illness that makes my immune system act like I am allergic to e everything. Derm pushed Accutane despite my concerns. Upset and wondering what to even do next.
